View Full Version : Exercise Accountability

Exercise is a huge component in weight loss and long term health! Let's band together and encourage one another to squeeze in a walk or a stretch or whatever each day!

Today: I normally do upper body weights - but admitedly was just too tired to get up early today. I only have 4 kids today, so if they all nap I can do it during nap time...if not, after we get groceries tonight. I WILL get it in!

How about you?

For the past month I have been doing an outdoor 4k run/walk 3 times per week along with some ab work and squats. I have a running buddy and that helps with my accountability (and not bailing)! I feel confident over the summer, but I will need extra support in the fall as she can no longer run as frequently and the weather gets wetter.

Nice idea for a thread. I'll cross my fingers for you for naptime, mortonpixie.

Oooh, westcoast rosa, are you keeping track of how many total km/miles you've done? I would imagine it would be encouraging to see that number grow.

Tonight I had planned to do an extra stage 2 NROLFW workout. It works out better for me to tack on two additional workouts in this stage and scoot my week of rest back just a bit. Anyway, that was my plan until I dyed my hair last night. It is so bright and so bold and so not what I was after! I have a wedding to go to on Saturday and I'd like not to look completely ridiculous so I'm trying to do everything they tell you not to do after you've dyed your hair. I'm just not sure I can get home from work, lift, do intervals, steam the bride's gown for Saturday (I would do it Friday but I have to attend a nephew's birthday party. Saturday morning I'll be doing the alterations on my dress for the wedding.) and still have time to jump in the pool.

I keep track of my runs and their length/time in a little book. I have registered for an 8k in October (my first run ever...i am insane....hahaha), so once I am at a point where I can run for 30 minutes without stopping I will start training on the race route (happens to be right by my house).

westcoast rosa - I'm impressed with your running! Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to hear a full race report on your 8k in October!

Thistleberry - What is NROLFW? Sorry about the hair mishap!! I did that once on a Tuesday evening and had Kids Club at church on Wednesday night...one of the kids said I could probably be seen from space. :smack:

Well, naps didn't happen yesterday - everyone was dialed in but the 6mo old...had him nearly gone and my 10yo came in from an overnight. Then...after we got home from grocery shopping at 7pm, I poured a glass of red wine and that was all she wrote!

Today: Got up and ran on our clunky basement treadmill. Ever since my husband switched to a 6am - 2pm shift, it's been harder to co-ordinate workouts. I ended up with a couple of sleepy-headed visitors the last 10 minutes (I think they can hear the tm!), but I got it done!!

We have a wedding tonight - one of my little daycare boys Mom is getting re-married! So sweet, I got him 3 years ago when his mom and dad split and she moved here. I'm happy to see their little family grow. :)

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!!

That's so exciting, westcoast rosa! I can't imagine being able to run for 30 minutes straight. My running has improved but I don't think I'll ever be a runner, you know? But I ran outside for my intervals last night instead of using my bike just because I was thinking of what you'd written. :)

Good for you for getting your run in this morning, mortonpixie! It sounds like you're quite the busy supermom. :D

NROLFW is New Rules of Lifting For Women. It's a book that gets reccomended a lot for people who are new to lifting weights. I love it! I had no idea I was going to enjoy it as much as I have.

I was able to knock off work an hour early yesterday and managed to accomplish everything! I wasn't able to jump in the pool but it was because it simply wasn't warm enough. I opted for a shower after my workout and a bath before bed instead. Maybe it's just in my head, but my hair color does seem a bit less vibrant!

Hi, everyone! It feels good to be in the company of other women committed to keeping up with their exercising routine.
I just started exercising again just over a week ago, and though my muscles are tired, I feel twice as confident about reaching my health goals. I'd like to run a race again, like you, westcoast rosa! That would really make me feel good.
So far, I've been doing walk-jog intervals and plan on doing those 5x/week, with 20 minute kettlebell workouts after two of those jogs. Hopefully, I'll work some yoga in, too, but there are only so many hours in the day! I successfully met all of my jogging days in the last week, and did a kettlebell workout on Tuesday. Still a bit sore muscled from that one. Hopefully, I'll do #2 tomorrow.

i like this thread and i happen to be in my 30s...most of the chatting seems to happen in the younger age groups...

ive been going to the gym since last september very regularly, since i signed up then...i work on running and also do weight training on the machines...i will not do heavy free weights although lots of ppl say that's better than machines, because i am at high risk of re-injuring my lower back...one wrong move while learning the moves and more discs in my back could easily rupture...i've lived through enough of those to NEVER EVER chance that...so weight machines it is

right now i'm running at a 5.5-6.0 speed on the treadmill...i run quarter-mile intervals with a 30-second or less pause between intervals to walk...and i run a total of 1.5 miles which ends up about 2 miles total with a bit of walking, warm up and cool down

right now i can push out 100 pounds on my arms on the weight machines and i can pull down between 110-130 pounds on my abs

anyhow thats what i do every morning...i get up at 530 a.m. to work out and am home by 7 when DH is getting ready for work...

alaskanlaughter[U] - wowee, girl! That's some great intervals on the mill! I know what you mean about the potential for back injury - I don't do anything that involves twisting (russian twists) or swinging (kettlebells). I once did some side to side moves with an exercise video and had to crawl to bed that night. :(

[U]RVAscreenwriter - keep up the GREAT work! You will run another race!! I started with walk/run intervals many moons ago and the sky really IS the limit.

thistleberry - what a nice feeling to get it all done!! I will check out the New Rules for Weight Lifting - always up for a new workout. :)

Slept in until the kids got up at 7:20 this morning and then went for a nice bike ride. I rode over to the lake where my triathlon is next Saturday, but there was way to much pedestrian traffic to safely do any serious cycling of the course - so I made a loop and went home. Out there for about an hour - a little shy of 17 miles.

Would like to get in some arm work today - but hubby always raises an eyebrow when I do 2 workouts in one day...so... ;o)

17 miles in an hour is really good!! i bike ride sometimes and only get about 8 miles in an hour...i would love to bike more but unfortunately it rains nearly daily here on the coast of alaska...it's supposed to be nice tomorrow (as in, not raining lol) so i'd like to do another 8 mile ride tomorrow

did my usual running intervals at the gym this morning...i usually dont go on the weekend but i missed thursday due to being sick so i wanted to make it up...my reward for 5 days of exercise is a hot tub session on sundays at the gym, so i wanted to make up for missing one day LOL

forgot to mention that i also do childcare...i manage an after-school childcare program that also runs a full day program during the summer...right now i have about 60 kids a day in my program, run through the school district here...for several summers i had previously opted to stay home and do home childcare instead of work becuase i'm really only contracted for 10 months out of the year, but my kids are older this summer so i chose to continue to work through the summer

mortonpixie

alaskanlaughter - I love that you made up the day to get your reward! That's a great reward btw - ahhh.... Wonderful line of work, childcare! That full day care for school agers during the summer is a workout in itself!! Hard to keep them all busy with activities, movies, crafts and games! When does school start up again? How old are your children?

Today: Went over to the YMCA for our usual Sunday swim. David and I drop the 3 & 5 yo's off at the child care and swim laps while the 10yo splashes around (and the 13yo stays home being "pensive) I swam for about 40 minutes and managed 1500yds with a long set of 400yds. I just started swimming a little more than a year ago, so that 400 w/out rest is a huge accomplishment for me! After our workouts, we get the kids from the child care and take them swimming.

Now, we're home and hubby is parting out a rotisserie chicken that we picked up on the way home, for a quick and healthy meal...I will have my chicken on a few corn chips with some 2% cheese, low fat sour cream, salsa and avocado. YUM!!

i manage a program for elementary-age students so i get kids ages 5-12 but i also have good staff and it's a good thing for the community, to have this program in the school district

at home i have a 14 year old boy from my first marriage and a 6 year old boy with my current DH...one will be in high school this fall and the other will be in first grade...school starts mid-august here...summer sure is going by fast :)

i usually have sundays as a rest day but it wasn't raining today so i opted for a new biking route this afternoon...took me about an hour and a half and i rode about 13 miles...lol i'm gonna pay for that tomorrow morning when i try to run

i try to keep my calories about 1600...sometimes i eat over a bit and deduct my exercise calories but usually hit right around there...try to eat low sugar, low wheat

right now i'm at 190 pounds, exactly in the middle from where i started at 230 to where i want to be at 150

alaskanlaughter - ha, ha, I also have one in HS and one in K! I've home schooled my High Schooler for the last 4 years, so I'm not real sure about booting him out to the public school...scary!

Today: The plan is for a 45min bike ride after supper. We'll see if it gets done - it's supposed to be 105 degrees today and we haven't had rain for weeks - we're in the worst drought since the 50's. :( Anyway...might have to break out an exercise tape instead.

i hit a milestone weight this morning!! it said 189.0 after my morning workout!! i've never seen that LOW of a number on the scale in my whole adult life :)

like i predicted, i PAID for that 13 mile bike ride yesterday....i went to the gym this morning like usual before work and my arms were so sore i could barely push out any abs or arms on the weight machines...i ran but i only ran one mile instead of a mile and a half...i ran it at a faster speed though but my whole body felt absolutely exhausted :(

i worked an 8 hour shift straight through without a lunch break (due to short staffing) and i felt totally useless at work...exhausted, achy, tired, sore...i sat down on the playground with some kids and could have just fallen asleep :(

ive thought of homeschooling my kids as well...i was home schooled growing up until 8th grade because we lived on a remote alaskan homestead...my teenager has ADHD and autistic traits and frankly isn't learning a darn thing in the public school system...but i plan to have him focus more on life skills in high school (career choices, balancing a checkbook, drivers ed etc)...

:woohoo: Wow!! I'm SO extremely excited for your NEW LOW!! :woohoo:

Sorry you felt so tired yesterday - maybe an extra rest day is in order?

Home schooling will certainly keep you hopping - I have a small home daycare as well, and I'm not real sure how I keep it all up in the air.

Well, last night I ditched the bike ride and swam laps instead. 1500yd in 40min, not bad and I had one set of 400 continuous. It was still 105 degrees at 6pm, so no hope for a cool down...I don't mind riding in the heat, but that was bananas! :cb:

Today: Most likely end up on the treadmill at the Y. We normally swim on Sunday and Tuesday, but since the weather has been so dreadful, our swims have been more often...and my shoulders are sore!

Have a great day!

I did #2 kettlebell workout on Saturday, and just did #3 today. I didn't go for a jog, though, because I've been the target of some terrible biting bugs as of late. I don't want anymore itchy bumps on my body! THE SOUTH.

Hey ladies! I'm back. The wedding was wonderful. I had such a good time! My friend did a beautiful job pulling everything together. Add to all that, I got a lot of nice compliments from people who haven't seen me in awhile. The groom even pulled me aside to tell me I looked radiant. Unfortunately, the lifting I'd done that morning combined with all the walking we did between the ceremony and cocktail hour combined with the two drinks I had and the hours and hours of dancing did a number on my body. I got back to the hotel and it felt like my whole body seized up. Every muscle was cramping and I was shaking like a leaf. I felt frozen from head to toe. I managed to drag myself into the shower and the hot water helped some. Still, I haven't felt quite back to normal until this morning. So glad I went ahead and took vacation days yesterday and today!

Today I plan to do a little jogging and maybe bust out one of my hula hoops later. Tomorrow I'll be doing Bodyflow after work. This is supposed to be my week of rest between phases in NROLFW so I'm trying to keep things nice and low key.

one of the ladies that i see every morning at the gym told me today that i'm such an inspiration to her because i am always there working out really hard :) that was so sweet of her!

i felt alot better today, DH worked on my legs last night and i got good rest...i can't take any medications before a workout (not even aleve etc) because it makes me break out in itchy hives during the workout...my doctor said it's just how my body metabolizes medications while i'm working out hard...

i ran 1/4 mile at 5.5 speed and then did intervals at 6.0 to total 1 1/4 miles...after i did my weights...scale is still reading 189-point-something but i expect it to go back up...it always does after TOM and then drops again right after TOM...but we'll see, maybe it will stick around :)

long long day with my students, all 64 of them today...plus staff meetings tonight...zzzz

"I don't have time" is the singular biggest excuse for not working out. You DO have time, you just might need to re-order your priorities.

Things that have worked for me:

Exercise videos before the kids get up and before work (rent at the library for free or buy CHEAP on eBay)

Standing up during commercials and walking or jogging in place. During an hour show, you will have exercised for 15min!

Stand up from supper and immediately go for a walk. Take whomever wants to go, but don't even start the dishes, just get out for the walk.

Apply for a discounted membership at the local YMCA (they have a sliding fee). Take your headphones and plug in on a treadmill or elliptical DURING your favorite show. Oh, they also have free child care with your membership!

Any other things I can think of I will post here - or maybe we can start another thread?

This is some great advice. :D I do the commercial thing sometimes.

The best way I've found to combat excuses, whatever they may be, is to find exercise that I really enjoy doing. It is a wonderful feeling to ride around town on my bike. There's this simple joy in it; a freedom that you feel and maybe it's the speed and maybe it's the wind. Whatever it is, it's enjoyable. Sometimes I'd still rather watch tv. Sometimes I bargain with myself by saying sure, watch this program now but when it's done let's go out for at least 15 minutes. Typically 15 minutes turns into half an hour or more.

Biking, walking, hitting a birdy around with a badminton racket (if I can't find anyone to play with me, lol), swimming, hula-hooping, jumping rope, roller skating... there are so many things you can do instead of "formal" exercise. You just need to find what works for you. What sounds like fun to you?

WestCoastRoasa - HA!! I hear ya! I have a bad back that goes wonky sometimes, and have literally hobbled out to the trail and then had a great run...not sure WHAT could stop us?!?

Opted for a run on the treadmill at the y last night instead of a bike ride in 105* heat. Shin splints have been plaguing me since I've been doing more speed work to prep for my race (that's THIS SATURDAY!!). No trouble with them last night, but I only went 3 miles. :)

Today: I took the kids on a walk to get out of the house before the temps soared to much. I have a date with my BFF tonight, so probably won't get an official workout in - that's okay, I'm technically supposed to be tapering this week - ie. taking it easy!

alaskanlaughter
07-25-2012, 11:32 PM
ive thought about doing a 5K sometime...but i've hardly ever ran outside...the impact has been hard on my knees the few times i've tried it in years past, enough to really discourage me from getting out on the pavement again...and also the outside air tends to aggravate my allergies and asthma...the thought of running outside in a 5K with "real runners" intimidates me as well lol

i had my usual workout this morning....worked all day with about 66 students...came home and took my boys to run errands for an hour and a half...cooked dinner...now to finish cleaning the kitchen

scale still reading 189 this morning so i guess it's gonna stick around for awhile :) lowest weight ever!!

mortonpixie
07-26-2012, 11:47 AM
thistleberry - enjoy your rest week! I love that you are lifting weights - your bones will thank you!!

alaskanlaughter - glad that low number is sticking around! Might be time to add something new to the "usual workout" to keep things moving along. Your body adapts to stress (ie. exercise) and the usual workout becomes not quite a workout anymore. :) Instead of running intervals, try interval hill climbs on the tread mill. Walking at an incline of 7% or greater is the same intensity as running - only it works different muscle groups. Try it!

Another horrifically hot day on tap here for us in Nebraska today. We did get a *little* rain last night - the first in over a month. Took the kids on a walk early this morning and plan to ride my bike (if not over 95*) or take a swim this evening.

LAST WORKOUT BEFORE MY TRIATHLON ON SATURDAY!! :carrot:

Thanks for the welcome! I actually thought last night...do you really wanna have to NOT have anything to post except I sat on my butt all night! LOL. I got up and took a walk...only about a mile. Then I had to mow the lawn, which I'm kinda counting! I have an old push mower (not self propelled) took about an hour and I was dripping sweat after...so yup it was something at least. when i hurt the back of my knee in the spring, i changed to doing hills....i would warm up, set the incline at 10% and do up to 15% and then back to 10, rinse and repeat for an hour...it burned calories but didn't do the same for my body that running will do...i enjoyed it though

the lady that i was talking to at the gym is one of the coordinators of a big marathon coming up this weekend...she was really encouraging me this morning to sign up for it, apparently she thinks i can run farther than i really can LOL but they are doing deci(?) marathons, very short bits of it like just over a mile length...i told her i might do that...i'm still thinking about it

finally HOME!! what a very long day...got up at 5 a.m. and did an easy workout, hard weights and an easy walk for half an hour...work was insane today, very short on staff and about 60 students...and then there's the child throwing up at the lunch table, the student in tears who just ate something she's allergic to (not deathly allergic, thank god!), and the random behavior problems...overall it's a good group of kids but man, when one thing happens, they all seem to happen, and on a day with very few staff on board ....

but tonight me and DH are going downtown to find a restaurant to eat at and walk around a bit....just time for us, dont get much of that these days :)

As for me, I did the kettlebell workout today, and with more energy than ever! Granted, it was because someone tried to rile me during my screenwriter's group meeting. What a jerk. He was actually trying to get under my skin! And he's 55y.o.! Grow up, fella.
Anyway, when I accept my Oscar someday, I'll also thank all of the people that made me angry or tried to hurt my feelings. Thank you for making me more determined than ever.

alaskanlaughter Sounds lovely! Congratulations on successful dining. It's apparent that you are making a LIFE change rather than a short term diet. :) :yay:

westcoastrosa THANKS!

RVAscreenwriter Sorry you encountered such a jerk. :( It's apparent to me, that each person (even the icky ones) are placed in my life to teach me to be a better woman. You can thank him for helping your career!

Thanks for all the well wishes! I completed my event and am waiting for the results. The swim was 750yds and was a terribly confusing course. There were TWO sets of bouys out there, so I wasn't really sure where the heck I was going...I really hammered it on the 12mi bike and passed about 20 people (lots of men!)...and the 3mi run was okay - I had some stomach cramps that were nasty, so I abandoned my original "all out effort" plan and stuck with an easy pace to have fun and finish strong.

I was so happy to see our pastor and his kids on the swim exit, my husband brought the kids out with my Mom and a saw them on the bike (and finish!) and a friend of ours hubby was biking alongside the run course and got me to run hard on the way to the finish! Such a wonderful day!!

This is my last event for the year. Now I plan to do a P90X/INSANITY hybrid plan for 90 days and train our 10yo dd for her first 5k in October. All good things!

way to go on the triathlon!!

it was a good event this morning...was definitely harder to run on pavement and the impact bothered my ankles somewhat...i found that running on level ground was fairly easy and downhill was FAST! lol but going uphill at the very start was reallyyyyy hard....i took a few walking breaks as needed, for a few seconds or so...my goal was to finish the event and NOT come in last place LOL which i didn't...i was in the middle of the pack

i forgot to eat before the event....normally i dont eat before hitting the gym so early in the morning and i dont think it bothered me at all to do it today on an empty stomach either...but i wonder "would the hills have been easier if i had eaten?"

Just did my kettlebell workout. Phew! To warm up, I managed to do two sets of 20 knee push-ups. I think I'm going to go for two sets of 10 real push-ups, next time! I feel so much stronger. I take little moving breaks between the sets of my kettlebell exercises. It'll be amazing when I can keep going all of the way through the circuit without breaking, like I'm supposed to. Gotta keep going!

mortonpixie - Glad that the tri went well! You are an inspiration. :)

RVAScreenwriter - BEASTY push ups, lady!!! WOAH. Getting stronger and noticing a change that way is sometimes more of a reward than the silly weight number!

alaskanlaughter - did you manage to hit the hot tub?? :D

Yesterday: Did my run on the treadmill...I was agonizing over not running outdoors to train in the heat, but I don't have any more races coming up so why suffer for no reason??

Today: Upper body weights and a short swim.

Have a wonderful day!!

Wow, you ladies are so inspirational! You must be so proud of yourselves. :D

I don't have much to report about myself. I've just been doing Flow, taken a few 45ish minutes jaunts with my bike, etc. I start the next phase of New Rules on Thursday.

i did get to the hot tub :D i try to make it every sunday afternoon if i've gone to the gym for 5 workout days

my goal was to increase interval times and distance this week...it's not going quite how i planned...i ran two miles on the treadmill yesterday, doing three half-mile intervals, and i was so SORE in my ankles that i barely got the last half mile done in smaller intervals :( then i was so SORE all day that i could hardly put weight on my ankles for work, which is alot of walking around...the rest of my legs felt fine, shins, calves, upper legs etc, just my ankles and the area around them....very weird....

so today i ran just one mile, in half-mile intervals, which still boosts the intervals because they used to be quarter-mile intervals...i may stick with just that this week and see how my ankles handle it...they hurt afterwards but not as badly and already feel better now

does this sound like a good plan?

also getting back to my focus of low sugar, low wheat as well because i ate a lot of wheat yesterday afternoon and was SOOOO freaking tired afterwards :(

alaskanlaughter - a good rule of training is to only increase your mileage OR intensity by 10% per week. Did you go from 1/4mi intervals to 1/2mi? That's a big jump. Treadmills usually go by tenths of a mile...so .1 = 176yds. (1mi = 1760yds) Do a little rough math here and see that 1/4mi = 440yds (or .25 on the tm read out) 10% of that wouldn't even be another .1 on the counter. My advice - just run another .1 this week and see how it goes. Increasing from quarter mile repeats to half mile repeats is to much.

thistleberry - stellar consistency with the workouts!! We would love to hear more about Flow - are you referring to Vinyasa style Yoga? You've inspired me to get back to the weights - thanks!

Today: Just got back from a walk with the kids, tonight I will ride my bike long - thinking maybe 30 miles. It's been a while since I've had Little Blue Trek out on the highway. :D

alaskanlaughter

i didnt increase my distance, just the interval length...so before i was running 1.5 miles in quarter-mile intervals and now i'm running 1 mile in half-mile intervals...and then i'll add to the interval lengths from there more slowly...i chose to increase it like that because that's what i was running last spring and i know my body is capable of it...i'm sore but nothing that a good stretch and a rest will take care of...

did my usual workout this morning...am working on increasing some of the weight training a little bit too...not by too much, just a little at a time

i'm sore but nothing that a good stretch and a rest will take care of...

Okay - didn't mean to over step...you did ask us what we thought and you seemed to be in a fair amount of pain. *shrug*

Managed to get the kids out for a walk this morning before it got *too* hot. Last night I went for a 20mi bike ride in 100* heat - it was not pretty.

Today: Weights for legs and back, then a 3-4mi run at the YMCA...in the nice cool A/C!

i was definitely in a lot of pain after doing 2 miles...my ankles and that area were really bothering me...i might just need new shoes also, not sure yet...after only doing 1 mile, i was hurting but then stretched and rested and it felt better within half an hour

im leaning towards it being my shoes because i'm really not doing anything more intense or longer than i've done in the past....so it shouldnt be bothering me at all, really

i did another mile today in half-mile intervals and then walked for awhile....sore again but stretched and rested and now i feel fine...did some weight training too

alaskanlaughter
08-04-2012, 12:18 AM
each day my ankle area is feeling better...i ran again this morning...two intervals of .6 miles instead of .5 (half) and it was okay, i didnt feel like i was pushing it too hard...what i'd like to do is run next week two intervals of .6 miles each, then .7 the next week, .8 the next, etc until i'm running two intervals of one mile each, which should be beginning of september if all goes well

at that point i'd like to transition to one day focused on weight training, the next day do a two mile run and work on even longer, and alternate it...right now i'm doing half hour weight machines focused on arms and abs, and then half hour on running the intervals...usually i'll get the running intervals done and then just walk fast til the rest of the half hour is up, stretch out and be done....

anyhow...i'm rambling, but that's my plan :)

alaskanlaughter - it's great to have a plan! My husband laughs at my spreadsheets - but that's how you set goals and get things done, right!? Glad the ankle is feeling better.

Yesterday was a rest day for me. I completely SHREDDED my legs on Thursday with a lower body weights routine followed by a slow and steady 3 mile run. :dizzy: Not sure why I always do that with resistance training...start, do it for a month, stop again... I KNOW the pain that awaits me when I resume!! I love cardio too much and always dump my weight routine to do more swimming, cycling or running.

Today: it's relatively cool here in good old Nebraska, so I'm hoping for a long slow run on the bike paths today. Haven't done anything longer than 4-5 for a while and could use a good "head clearing" run.

BodyFlow (also called BodyBalance in other parts of the world) is a Les Mills class that combines Yoga (not sure what style), Tai Chi, and Pilates. I love it!

I go to this cute little place that's two towns over but is so worth it because it's privately owned. The ladies there are such a joy to know. Other places in town offer the class but I just can't bring myself to give up that warm and friendly atmosphere. I'd really like to try some of the other classes they offer but I work too late and have a 45 minute commute each way. Trying to fit anything else in my schedule is just impossible.

It's been amazing how lifting has changed my performance in the class. I really notice it during the standing strength section. For instance, my warrior poses have improved dramatically. My form is so much better and deeper. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I have to do a double take because I'm not sure it's me.

Today I am supposed to do phase 3 workout B1 of NROLFW. I've got terrible DOMS though so I'm kind of debating putting it off until tomorrow. I'm hoping to do some stretching and maybe some light cardio to loosen my body up a bit and see if that helps. It would be much better to do it today as I'll have a proper recovery day tomorrow. If I do it tomorrow I won't have that on Monday. Plus, you know, my post workout shake is really tasty and sounds so good right now! :D

the weekends are "rest days" for me...although i do a whole lot of errands, house cleaning etc that keep me up and moving around...i really hate, genuinely HATE, just sitting around with nothing to do...unless i am drop dead exhausted and want to fall asleep...ive often wondered if i have a bit of ADHD because my teenager has it, although i've always thought he got it from his dad who is bipolar and those are in similar regions of the brain from what i've learned (i could be wrong)

so today i'm hauling all my stuff to the recycle center and going grocery shopping and making a crockpot soup and probably several other things i'll remember to do...and i'd like to take the puppy for a walk with my little son

thistleberry - namaste. Rocking the warrior pose, ye-ah!! Inspiring to see your success!! I don't blame you for driving to where you are comfy. I swam at a pool that was farther away for a long time when I was first learned to swim...the people that went there in the morning were much less intimidating than the semi-pro men that met at the other location - yikes!

alaskanlaughter - hope you got all of your errands ran. :) I understand about not being able to sit still. I think those of us that dedicate our lives to working with children, do so because we are high energy just like the kids!

Got my run in yesterday - had kind of a tummy ache, so had to "pull over" on the side of the trail, yuck. :( I have a hard time with my t.o.m and it makes my guts hurt. But I got 7 miles in with the help of Creed: Greatest hits and a wonderful turn in the weather!

Today: Did my swim - drills, and work with paddles, long freestyle set all added up to 1500yds. :) I was tired and it wasn't pretty but it's done. I took the kids swimming for an hour afterwards, and am now just waiting for my dinner to be done cooking!

Hope you all had a great weekend!!

i think i'd go crazy at a desk job LOL before i worked with kids, i spent 8 years working as a reporter, photographer and (for a few years) also managing editor (and sometimes ad sales as needed) for a weekly newspaper up north...never sitting still for too long, never a dull moment....

like the day of 9/11 when my newspaper is due at the printing press...and there's an airliner headed for alaska that they thought was hijacked...and i had phones in two ears and a camera in my hand AND my photographer was stopped because he looked like an arab when he was really a long-haired hippie stoner from california LOL

but i digress...i had a nice rest day, got chores done around the house, sat and read books for awhile (probably longer than i have in months), went to the hot tub for my workout reward etc

tomorrow is back to my early morning workouts...only 2 more weeks of those early morning ones before school starts...then my routine shifts to work at 645 a.m.-8 a.m., then home and to the gym, then work noon-6 p.m.

alaskanlaughter
08-06-2012, 12:34 PM
this morning i worked on increasing the interval distance by a little bit....last week i was running 0.5 of a mile, doing two of those intervals...today i tried 0.6 of a mile, doing two of those...it wasnt as hard as i thought it might be...a girl that i know from the gym came and walked/ran next to me so that was fun :)

i have a big mental block on running distances without a breath...i think it's related to my asthma...so my goals are to 1) slowly push past that mental block consistently and 2) end up running more distance total after awhile

i can push myself past that mental block once...i've done it before...it's just pushing myself past it every.single.morning that i can't get past yet...so gradually is my plan for now lol

Yay, awesome thread!!

I'm an anime/gamer geek, and we head to a convention in Baltimore each year (called 'Otakon') and at the suggestion of a new friend who plays Pokemon with me (...yes, 32 and I play Pokemon.) who suggested we both try to get healthier and work out. Naturally, based on my interests (games and anime tend to be sedentary activities) so this was a challenge, to say the least.

So, I started. I found a website that allows me to track my route I walk (gmap-pedometer) and also allows me to keep a log so I can put in when I walked and figures my calories! I also got a swim pass for the public pool right 2 blocks from my house (pool access is free for residents!) and swim as much as I can. I was 312 2 weeks ago and I've so far lost 8 pounds and am at 304!! I found a free calorie counter for swimming so I can figure how much I'm burning when I swim. I'm already being able to hold my breath longer and longer each time I go, plus I LOVE swimming. Next year I'm going to sign up for the free swimming classes so I can learn something aside the doggy paddle!

I'm also able to keep up with my mom and sister when we're shopping now (normally I'm lagging behind and needed fairly frequent breaks because my feet hurt- I have overly tiny feet for my size- a whole size 7 (though with my wide width I usually need to get an 8 or 8 and a half to compensate) while my little sister's feet are HUGE (her toes can CURL over mine if I we line our feet up heel to heel!) and I'm the shortest in my family (Dad was 6'1", Mom is 5'8", and my little sis is 5'10, I'm a whole 5'6"... ARG).. and I'm the fattest... so YAY for fitness!! I love the fact that I'm already seeing results.. and being able to use gmap's calender to keep track of what days I do stuff is awesome! I'm going to start incorporating some weights while I'm sitting (I have a pound of 3 lbs weights I'm using to do curls while I watch the olympics or TV) so I can try to get some upper arm strength.. I'm currently unemployed (got laid off in April) and still looking for work, but once I do have a job I plan on joining a Tae Kwon Do dojo near my house, since martial arts have always been something I've wanted to get into. :) I would prefer Ninjitsu, buuuut I don't think that's really taught around here.... lol

...and I'm sorry for babbling. ^^;; Anyway, nice to meet all of you and wonderful idea for a thread, once again!

Hi! I'm new to this thread but its refreshing because the other ones I've tried to join seem to fizzle out. It's great there are so many of you committed to not just diet, but exercise as well!

I'm Laura. I work out at the Y and at home 2.5-3 hrs a day about 5 days a week and usually 90 mins the other 2 days. I do water aerobics, zumba, strength training on machines, walking, hiking, spinning (stationary bike) and I just started the couch to 5k program! I wanna be a runner but I have a long way to go! I am very committed to exercise along with my diet.

alaskanlaughter, I have a desk job and yeah sometimes it drives me absolutely batty. I get so fidgety some days! I try to get up and walk around more on those days and I'll listen to upbeat music and bop along in my chair. My coworkers find it amusing.

Wolfshadow, you really make me want to jump in the pool! I love that you're so excited about it. Good for you! I think it's great that you and your friend are taking on this challenge and I hope your friend is doing even half as well as you are. You're rocking it out over there. (Do you also go to GenCon?)

Wow, Chubbygirl253 (or should I just call you Laura?), you are dedicating a lot of time each day to work out! That's some stellar commitment. I think it's fabulous that your workouts are so varied. I'd love to try water aerobics.

I wound up doing my NROLFW Stage 3 workout B1 on Sunday. I just needed the extra day to recover. Turns out it's a lot more upper body than the A workout so BodyFlow the next day didn't really mess with my recovery at all. I'm excited and sort of dreading doing A2 because of the bodyweight matrix at the end. You get through the whole workout, which includes many squat-like exercises, and then you do 24 squats, 24 lunges (12 each leg), 24 lunge jumps (12 each leg), and 24 squat jumps. You're supposed to rest for twice as long as it took you to do it and then go in for round two. I managed to get through it once at 4:10 but didn't manage the lunge jumps at all and was so wiped I couldn't even contemplate doing it a second time. I'm going to push to get through it all this next workout but man is that thing brutal!

:welcome2:

WOW!! You are all amazing!!

wolfshadow - So nice that you have a friend that's in to this crazy fitness thing too! It's NOT easy going from sedentary to active...but we've all had to do hard things. And I always thought that being heavy was much more difficult (emotionally!)

chubbygirl253 - Wow, lady, you are doing an astounding amount of work each day! You WILL be a runner. I started out at my heaviest, doing a walk/run interval - I would run for 1 minute and walk for 9 minutes and repeat 3 times. Each month I would add another minute of running and take away a minute of walking. I was SO happy and proud when I ran my first 5k! I can't wait to see your progress. <3

Yesterday: Got my upper body weights and ab work done, then went for a shorter swim. I had to get out of the pool early b/c my left shoulder was really sore. This happened last week when I tried to do upper body on the same day as swimming...might have to rethink that plan.

Today: Took the kids out for morning walk and will do a longer bike ride tonight. This will be our last Wednesday available for workouts till next summer - our AWANA program at church starts next week. I'm excited to see how the students have grown - lots of 6th and 7th graders taller than me now, I bet!!

Have a super-duper day!!

welcome everyone!!

just a quick post as i have a bunch of stuff to get started on today...errands, work stuff before i even GO to work lol, then i work all afternoon...gotta run BIL out to the boat right after work etc...BIL works at one of the mines in the area and they can only get there by boat

anyhow, i did some weights on my arms this morning but not abs, the machines i wanted were already in use by others and i hate waiting around...so i went straight upstairs to run...did my interval running, two sets of 0.6 miles and then walked the rest of the half hour

i'm debating purchasing a thyroid supplement from the health section of the store because i'm always SO COLD...i cant afford to have a whole battery of tests run at my doctor but i have almost all the symptoms of an underactive thyroid and have had that for awhile...mainly that i'm SO FREAKING COLD all the time...even when the heat's turned up high and others are roasted out of the house, i'm perfectly comfortable in here still wearing sweatpants and a sweater...so anyhow, i might look into a supplement and see if it makes any difference

@Thistleberry - GenCon? No, never heard of it. Where is that one held? I think my little sister has been talking about possibly going to KatsuCon (I think that's held in Boston) cause a bunch of her friends go there now (I guess Otakon is getting too big and pricy for them) cause she wants to hit more than just Otakon each year.. It's a haul to get to Otakon for us (Syracuse to Baltimore is a drive!) and we usually room in a hotel outside of Baltimore (around York/Shrewsbury PA) because my sister has a TON of anxiety issues and being around people she doesn't know well makes her anxty and she may lash out.. She can't help it, of course, but it makes it hard on me, for sure, because I'll talk to anyone and chew their ear off (case in point) and my sister wants to avoid everyone usually. She's gotten better over time but she still likes to hide in her shell for sure. But we've been going to Otakon for 10 years now and we've only missed 2 cons (I missed 08 and 09 and my sister missed 02 and 09) so it's kinda.. it's just in our blood at this point, I think. Each year as summer rolls around she and I both start getting excited because it's CON SEASON and we know the annual trek to Baltimore is just around the corner. :3 I'll probably always head to Otakon just because all the Mega Man people I knew online growing up go there and I would miss seeing them, even if I'm pretty sure they consider me an idiot and ignore me for the most part. I'm not as active on DeviantArt like they are anymore and I have been a 'crazy cat lady' for the past 2 years rescuing animals so I really think they just look at me like I'm nuts and of course, part of that makes me think they hate me because I'm so fat. That's the self hatred of my physical appearance talking usually though so I try to shut that out and most of the time I can, it's the few times it gets the better of me is the problem. :P

Yeah, today I'm going to walk to the pool instead of drive down. I think if I have any extra money this paycheck I'm going to also buy a new tube for my bike's front wheel... I pumped it up and blew it out because I wasn't paying attention last fall and I would love to get some bike riding in as well.. Plus I'm trying to train my dogs to learn how to haul something behind them like my childhood dog did so we can go around and use my wagon to haul some of the stuff that gets dumped on the curb in my neighborhood on trash day and I usually make a pretty good killing on ebay with some of the stuff I've found.. (Apple IIe on the curb once for example... sold it on ebay for 130.) So yah, having the dogs to help haul it around would help keep THEM fit and me too! Because honestly, my black lab / pitbull mix Axl is getting kinda chubby and so is my husky/german shepherd/wolf hybrid Toboe. My little pitbull/pug/chihuahua/boxer mix, Alia, needs more weight honestly so I'll leave it to the boys for now. :P Plus we make money, which helps because I rescue animals too (mostly cats but I've saved 4 dogs so far, Alia and Toboe included), and every dime is towards getting them fixed and ready to go.

Baahhhh, yeah I'm blabbing again.... But I haven't talked to my buddy since before con... I'm hoping he gets on AIM soon so I can check in on him and maybe test my Pokemon team against his again, last time my Archeops slaughtered his team pretty good, hehehe. X3 Kinda why I joined this forum tho', so I have people behind me and I can talk to others going through my struggle to get this flab off. I'm even doing video blogs on YouTube now so I have SOME kind of accountability for keeping this train going and losing the weight once and for all. :P

@mortonpixie Yeah, it's SO not easy but I'm really starting to like being able to move around better now. I think I'm getting hooked on being a fitness junkie! I keep wondering what else I can fit into my day to work out a bit so I can fill my calender on gmap-pedometer a bit more..! Epsecially when your job is a sitdown job like mine has been for the past 10 years, call center slave. Oye. I almost want to change careers and get into something that will have me a bit more active but call centers are were the good money and benefits are around here, unless I want to become a home health aide or something and I don't want to wipe some stranger's butt. I deal with enough dog and cat fecal matter, I don't want to add strangers' poo to the list as well! LOL!

Anyway, yah, I'm really excited, my mom actually agreed to go walking with me Sunday and she's the QUEEN of sitting and doing notta (her day- sit at work and take orders for an air filter company monday-thru-friday, head home, turn on the TV, and watch Glee or Dancing with the Stars or American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance or MAYBE Castle or Grimm or something like that and then bed at 10. Wash rinse repeat!!!) and she has diabetes now and her feet are going numb on her. One's already so bad she can never feel anything (her right foot) and she's even afraid to drive now because she can't feel the pedals, and now the other one is starting to do the same thing to her.. her mom (my grandma) doesn't have this issue and it worries me that my 73 year old grandmother can get around better than my mom.. I'm hoping the short walking route will help her feet and keep her more active so she doesn't end up in a wheel chair... So yah. Now I'm gonna bug her every sunday to go walking with me. ^^ But, in the evening because my mom has lavablood and thinks anything above 65 degrees is too hot.. oye..!

...I'm blabbing again!

Ok, time to take the dogs out really quick and walk down to the pool! ^_^ Talk to you all later!!! ^_^

Gen con is one of the biggest gaming conventions in North America! It's fabulous. A lot more gaming than anime but still some. I haven't been able to go since they moved it to Indianapolis a few years back so I'm probably not the best source of information. I have a friend going this year though and I'm terribly jealous of him (though naturally also very happy for him too). That's why it was on my mind. Takes place Aug 16-19.

I'm a dog person and I think it's both really great and totally adorable to think of you fitting them out to haul things. Exercise for everyone, a little friendliness for the environment, and you might make a little cash. Total win all the way around!

i'm debating purchasing a thyroid supplement from the health section of the store because i'm always SO COLD...i cant afford to have a whole battery of tests run at my doctor but i have almost all the symptoms of an underactive thyroid and have had that for awhile...mainly that i'm SO FREAKING COLD all the time...even when the heat's turned up high and others are roasted out of the house, i'm perfectly comfortable in here still wearing sweatpants and a sweater...so anyhow, i might look into a supplement and see if it makes any difference

What sort of thyroid supplement do they have available otc? I've always tested borderline for thyroid so we've never done anything about it. I've always assumed that being cold was simply because I'm eating at a deficit. Left to my own devices, I would not have turned on the air very much at all despite the record heat.

it's simply called "thyroid support" and i found it in Fred Meyers health section...also kelp pills are supposed to help because they contain iodine...but i haven't tried that...i just got the thyroid one today and will see if it helps at all

ive been cold probably all my adult life...although i remember as a teenager wearing just a jean jacket out waiting for the school bus at 50 below zero temps and i felt just fine...as i got older though, my feet and hands are always cold, so is my nose and the rest of my body...as soon as one part gets cold, the rest of me is cold and it takes FOREVER to warm up...although i live in a chilly climate (rainy and damp here on the coast) i'm far colder than anyone else at any given moment...while DH can sit at home in shorts and a tee shirt, i'm wearing sweats, slippers, bundled up etc and i'm ALWAYS like that

EDIT TO ADD: i was like this at my highest recent weight, 230, and still am at the lowest weight i've ever been, 190 right now, so i dont think a calorie deficit or exercising is part of it

GenCon? No, never heard of it. Where is that one held? I think my little sister has been talking about possibly going to KatsuCon (I think that's held in Boston)

KatsuCon is actually in DC. Anime Boston is in Boston, you should check it out. I go every year. It's smaller and often-times a little more hectic than the larger cons but it's fun! >.<

PM me if you want any info on the cons around New England, I'm a massive nerd and go to most of them every year. Or PM if you want to chat nerd-stuff :)

Ahhh. I didn't realize it was so chronic for you. I think trying the supplements is a good move then. Please do keep us updated if you do decide to get them and if you think they've helped. I know you said you can't afford to see the doctor about it right now but I do hope you can soon!

@Thistleberry ...Gaming con? You just said the magic words! Though, I think Indianapolis is a haul for me (though, my sis and brother in law hauled arse all the way to Chicago for the Distant Worlds Final Fantasy concert... ...and ended up sitting directly infront of two Squeenix execs and Mr. Nobuo Umetsu himself! They called me squealing like a couple of fangirls... ...which is disturbing to a degree when one is a 31 Y/O man from El Salvador. XD;;) .. I think MagFest is somewhere in VA which I used to live there, that may be more able to be done... I dunno. Obviously my sis and I and her hubby are a package deal to the cons, we always trek down together. :)

XD I'm dog AND cat... and.. well, everything else too. I consider myself a universal fluffbutt lover. Fur, feathers, scales, if it walks on four legs or has none, I'll love it regardless. I actually rescued a gartersnake once.. my co-workers flipped when I came back in with a snake in my hands looking for my lunch container to put her in (she had been attacked by a mouse or something and had wounds on her belly that needed treatment.) ...plus it was like, nearly 10 PM and most of them were about to leave for the night, and she was in the parking lot.. if she had stayed there she would have been run over, maybe purposely. So she came home with me. :P Then there was the summer last year where we had a baby fox show up and begged for scraps.. Bah, blabbing again!!! Anyway, yah, the pups are kinda scared of the sound of the radio flyer I eventually want to get them hooked to, so I need to start taking it with me so they get adjusted to the sounds of it.. Maybe at that point they won't mind hauling it along with them while we scrounge around for things we can snag and resell. :P

@ThousandSunny - Ahhhh, DC huh? My sis loves DC. She got to go there for a school trip and she's always been bugging to go back. I'm definitely up for smaller cons, though I love the atmosphere of Otakon. It's just a very friendly attitude amongst the other congoers... though this year there was like a 14 year old girl who got separated from her mom and got sexually assaulted and another guy got mugged and stomped in the face for his empty wallet.. (I don't think the Baltimorians understand that we otaku usually are broke when a con comes around...) Baltimore itself is a very scary city.. It's only during that one weekend I go, and we always stay within the confines of the con and head back before dark. But yah. I'll definitely have to PM you later so we can discuss geeky things. XD

@AlaskanLaughter - Yeah, please do keep us all posted on if this stuff works for you. Your symptoms sound just like me (especially in a workplace where you can't just curl up under a blanket if you're cold!) so if this works for people I'm going to be adding it to my vitamin regimen!

As for today - went swimming from 3:55 to 5:45.. I would have gone sooner but my Pokemon/workout partner hopped on line and I caught up with him for a few hours. :) Once it hits 11 PM I'll probably go take the pups and we'll go on our walk as normal... ... really out of breath today from swimming! I worked it hard I think and my legs are cramping a bit but nothing horrible. Just gonna keep the fluids going.. just had tuna salad (two cans tuna, some miracle whip, lettuce, and num.) but I'm still hungry.. so I may go get some roast beef I have cooked up in the fridge. Not sure.

Anyhow, will catch you all later. ^_^

hi guys. I'm so tired from my workout today even though there are days I do much more. Could be I'm sore from jogging last night even if it was just 8 mins worth of jogging. Thats 8 minutes more than I have done in the last 5 years!
Today I did 1 hr of water aerobics, 45 mins spinning/stationary cycling, and 50 mins of yoga. I'm sore from the yoga but after just a couple weeks I noticed today I am getting stronger holding some of those poses! Yay me!
Also, I'm exhausted because I followed my workout with 4 hours of shopping and running errands. Jeez I'm tired.
I'm not working right now so I spend a good part of my day on exercise and recuperating from said exercise. I'll get stronger. I'm highly motivated and I'm feeling so good, albeit a lot more tired than when I was a couch potato. Speaking of couch potato, my 2nd session of week 1 couch-to-5k is tomorrow. I'm excited because even though session 1 was hard I did it and I felt awesome afterward even if I did feel like collapsing!

Tomorrow is my weigh day! Can't wait to see if I go down!

Oh, my goodness - so many people to chat with in here!! This is wonderful!!

girl253 - I'm so very proud of your 8 minutes of running, and those sore muscles are probably your "reward!" Congratulations on keeping moving - even elite athletes will do a light workout when they're sore, just to get the muscle tissue moving and make them feel better. You're on the right track!

wolfshadow - That's one LONG swim, girl! I don't know what it is about swimming, but it makes me the hungriest of all exercises. Great choices on the tuna salad and lean roast beef...mmm...hungry!!

thistleberry - Hows the weight training going? I over-did on Tuesday and my left shoulder is really talking to me!

thousandsunny - :hi:

alaskanlaughter - hope you find an answer to your issues, being cold all the time would be mighty annoying esp in Alaska!!

I did get my bike ride in last night. It was 101* with 15mph wind when I left...gag... I rode for about 75min and go about 20 miles in. My reward was to come home and change my shoes and hat and take my 10 year old DD out for her fist training run! We ran 1min and walked 1min and did that 6 times. She was so good and didn't complain, even though it was still 95 degrees! We got .85/mi in - she's well on her way to her first 5k in October. The time together was invaluable!! Shes going to smoke me on race day!

Tonight is YMCA night! My shoulder is still really bugging me, so no swimming. I think I'll use their fancy treadmills and do some speed drills. Last week, I lifted for lower body first and about fell off the treadmill when I was trying to run...then I was incredibly sore for several days. Not doing that again!

Have a SUPER DAY!!

Hi!

I took my bike out not too long ago, to the bike path in town and it was around 95! It was wicked humid; like riding through soup! Good on you on getting out here in 100 degree weather, girl.

@Wolfshadow: "XD I'm dog AND cat... and.. well, everything else too. I consider myself a universal fluffbutt lover. @mortonpixie - I would stay in all day if I could. I love the water. Plus I didn't do as much 'work' as I probabaly could, but I was feeling out of breath a ton. I finally bought some nicer swim goggles this year (a 'waste of money' as far as my mom is concerned but I use them constantly!) and I spend a lot of time with my head under, just looking around, and watching the other kids (a. lot. of. kids. yeesh!) swim around and feeling uber jealous of their ability to swim down to the bottom of the deep end (8 and a half feet deep) ... I've tried but I've been having issues with the water going up my nose... last time all the chlorine up in my sinuses gave me a monster migraine, so I've been avoiding going down trying to touch bottom until I can buy a nose plug.

Yah, tuna salad was good. I'm thinking I'm going to start making YouTube videos of how to make some of my favorites.. my family is always afraid of my cooking for some reason (I think because I'm brave and try new things- also, I had a habit of taking slices of american cheese, a saucepot and putting the saucepot on the heating vent as a little girl and melting the cheese into itty biddy balls and eating it... my mom was so frustrated at me some times I swear...) But today for breakfast I had coffee (sweetened with Splenda of course) and then I made basil vinigerette beef stirfry.. Is there a board here to list recipes? I'd love to share it. :)

YMCA night? I'm thinking of joining the one in downtown, but I can't afford it most likely, being on unemployment and foodstamps right now until I get a new job... (I am realllllly going to miss food stamps when I get that new job. ;-; Food is so expensive now! And it's only going to get worse because of the drought!) How much does it run to be part of it near you? I've been wanting to join because the one near me has a year-round pool and I want to be able to keep swimming. The one near my house is only open for a few more weeks before it closes for the summer.

As far as swimming, lol, it doesn't make me hungry, it does make me have to use the loo a ton though, can't seem to figure out why. Oo; Oh well. I've always had a weak bladder and issues with those pipes. >>;

@ThousandSunny - XD I have no idea where I got it from but yeah, you're welcome to steal it. That's what they are. Lovely, adorable fluffbutts!

@MortonPixie *AND* ThousandSunny - You two are both super-brave. I never go outside to work out while it's hot.. I always wait till after midnight to go on my walk with the dogs so I don't sweat.. but then again, I've been becoming really effected by the heat this year.. Sean Casey from StormChasers came to Syracuse recently and I found out last-minute and managed to head out there to meet him with my sis (he was always my favorite of all of the 'teams' on that show) and just going to the MoST here and back with my sis (IN THE CAR!!!) and a stop to McDonalds for some soda made me go into heat exhaustion and dehydration and I nearly puked all over! so.... I always swim during the day (because the water keeps you cool) and go walking at night (because it's usually in the 70s after midnight and much easier on me.) .. so.. you two are damn brave. o_o Kudos to you both!

@ChubbyGirl253 - I hope you go down! My scale is kinda funky though it did record a 2 pound drop over the last 24 hours. But we'll see what my mom's scale says, that's the one I go by. We even have a paper on the fridge at home that we're using for when I weigh myself so we can keep track of it (we tried this last time but without paper to track it, and we got into a huge argument because I had gone down 3 pounds and my mom said I stayed the same, but she's older and her memory has really been getting bad as of late, but of course she didn't want to believe me.. so now we're using paper and writing it down so there's no way to argue about it.)

I'm excited for you! I hope you've gone down! ^_^ I'm really excited because my scale said I was 300.6 exactly...... I'm about to be under 300 pounds for the first time in 5 years! I think I'll be treating myself to a new swimming accessory (my nose plug!) when I hit it! Maybe a swim-cap too so my hair doesn't get so messed up!

as for me and for yesterday and today - about to go walk to the pool for the afternoon. I didn't end up walking yesterday at all but, I did walk to the pool from home when, other days, I've been driving the 2 blocks. I'll be walking again today, and my neighbors will just have to deal with my chubby butt in just my swimsuit walking on down, and my.. Pokemon beach towel with Mewtwo and Pikachu on it... I'm such a nerd. :) (Like I care anyway.)

Have a great day and I'll catch up with you all after I return home from the pool. ^_^

My lifting went really well tonight. I added 5 more pounds to both my barbell bent over rows and incline bench presses which made me pretty happy. I still adore the single-leg Romanian deadlifts! It's very much my favorite exercise in 3A and I wish they were scheduled for 3B as well. Maybe I'll add them in just for kicks. My hamstrings are positively singing! I did a lot of stretching after so hopefully they aren't too terribly sore tomorrow. And I made it through the bodyweight matrix (minus the lunge jumps as I think my knees would get very, very angry) twice at 2:10 the first time and 2:17 the second. That's so much better than the first time I tried it!

I'm a little low on calories for a workout day but I'm feeling quite satisfied so I'm not going to worry about it.

i'll share a story with you...copied from a response to another thread about walking at midnight...

i live on the alaskan coast and bears are all over here, especially this time of year when the salmon and berries are out...even though i live in a suburban area, bears wander down the streets all the time...they arent scared of people and just become pests...big black 400-pound pests ugh

one time our niece came home at night and didnt shut the door all the way...a black bear followed her into the house and started getting into our garbage INSIDE...my husband came out and pointed a gun at it and told it to get out...it went as far as the front door, then turned around and charged him in the living room...he shot it between the eyes but it ran out the front door and no one ever found it...months later at the glacier a friend took a photo of a giant black bear, 500 pounds or more, with a healed bullet wound right between the eyes

As for me, I totally crashed last night right before I got to go on my walk. (Stupid sleep apnea..) I don't even remember what I was doing last.. Wolfshadow- I'm like you, I LOVE water exercises. I take water aerobics at the YMCA 5 days a week. I'm not working at the moment either and I qualified for 50% off financial aide. Just take in your award letter for your foodstamps and your unemployment check stub and paperwork for any other income or assistance you get. They will have you fill out a short application and tell you what you qualify for and how much it costs. The whole process only took 10-15 mins. It is so worth it! I get to take water aerobics, Zumba, yoga, Pi-Yo (pilates/yoga) and they have a program called ActivTrax where they can sign you up for free personalized strength training. And all those classes are FREE with your membership! There are all kinds of classes so you can pick what you are interested in plus use the machines like treadmill, elliptical, stationary bikes, etc. Everyone is so nice and there is all ages and physical abilities there so I don't feel Winnie the Pooh working out amongst a gym full of Kens and Barbies. I just wanted to take the time to tell you that in the month since I joined I went from low activity level to working out 3 hours a day and loving it! Give it a shot.

You know what? Its so funny how once I really committed to exercising my original goal I set was 90 mins/ 5 days a wk. But that goal took on a mind of its own until it was 2-3 hrs a day. And now, I try to get at least 1 hr or 90 mins on my only rest day, and I'm striving for 3 hrs the other 6 days. Today I have done 2 hrs 45 mins of cardio and I just really feel like I need to push on and do that last 15 mins. I didn't actively set that as my standard but the last few days I haven't felt like my work is done for the day until I reach it. I keep subconciously raising that bar for myself. And knowing how much I used to HATE exercise, I have decided that's the real accomplishment.

Today so far:
1 hr water aerobics
45 mins yoga
35 mins spinning
25 minutes c-to-5k training (8 mins jogging/17 mins walking in intervals)

*I have an after dinner walk scheduled to get in that last 15 mins or more.

I am absolutely astounded at your dedication!! BTW = [U]girl253[U] its awesome to have you on MyFitnessPal - you have the gift of encouragement!

Today is a rest day for me. :) I have normally had Friday as a rest day - but we go and buy groceries for 9 people for a week...so between the planning, the hauling and taking anywhere from 2-4 kids with us, putting it all away, then serving dinner - if Friday *really* a rest day?? :)

Tomorrow morning looks absolutely LOVELY for a long run...60* at 7am and a light breeze. We have a freshman football meeting at 10:30am, then a birthday party for one of the daycare sweeties at 2pm...and somewhere in there I need to make a Key Lime Pie for my son for his 14th birthday... And school starts Tuesday - GAH!!!

*deep breath*

Have a Super-d-Duper-d weekend, all!!

Chubbygirl253, I'm ridiculously happy for you and your newfound love for exercise! Your excitement is totally infectious and I'm glad that you're sharing it with us. But I feel I would be remiss if I didn't mention that it does worry me a little that you work out so much on your rest days. That's not really a rest day. A rest day is really important because it gives your body time strengthen and repair itself. You're doing such a wonderful job taking care of yourself in all of these other ways that I'd hate for you to overlook how having a proper rest day is just as good for you as shooting for all your exercise goals.

exercise is going great. C2-5k is awesome, finished all the sessions in week 1. Plan to stay at week 1 a little bit longer till I feel ready to progress. Lost 2 lbs when I weighed yesterday. Looking forward to Sun weigh-in now. did 2 hours and 45 mins cardio today and I have a walk scheduled with a friend in a little while. Diet is going good. Weird thing I need to watch though... exercise used to make me hungry, especially water exercises. Not anymore. Since I stepped up my fitness goals my appetite has dropped off. Have to make myself eat sometimes. I haven't even eaten 1000 calories today. Gonna go have some dinner so I keep my energy up. Shoulda eaten earlier but I was grocery shopping.

finally sitting down for the evening...got up at 5:30 a.m. and worked out, my usual routine...went to work early and worked all day, mostly up to my eyeballs in end-of-summer paperwork...after work i took my younger son and ran a bunch of errands...made dinner...did the budgeting and ran more errands LOL...came home and cleaned up the house...i seem to have alot of energy today so i'm using it to get a head start on the weekend, which also contains a million things to do getting ready for school

i ate well today until tonight...had more pizza than i should have, and then had a snack size mcflurry...it could have been much much worse LOL i feel like i made a good choice in getting the super small treat but i know it still contains a ton of calories...however i dont eat those every day, in fact the last time i ate a mcflurry was probably at least 3 years ago lol...but i enjoyed every last bite, logged it in my food book, and probably wont have another one for a few more years

i can tell TOM is approaching next week because i'm craving chocolate and sugar like crazy :( :( ive kept it pretty much under control though

Ok, time for me to check in again.

Went to the pool... only to find out it was closed for the day! Apparently, if we have thunderstorms at all within the last 24 hours, the high-schoolers the town decides are it's staff for the pool figure they don't need to come to work that day. I'll be contacting the town about this.. it's my tax money going to pay their paystubs, I expect a pool open on a hot muggy day, even if, at the time, it was mostly cloudy. T_T

My mom and I were planning on going to a local theater (like, within a 5 minute walk from her house) to watch Men in Black 3 on Saturday.. since the pool was closed we decided to do it today. Just as we left we ended up spotting a rare sight- a clearwing snowberry hummingbird moth! We both NEVER have seen one before (and my mom was convinced it was a hummingbird for sure).. and then we have a debate on if it was a moth or a butterfly. My mom insisted it was a butterfly, and I told her it was a moth... I of course was right. So that was kinda neato. I recorded it on my phone and put it up on YouTube... and plan on posting it on my mom's wall before bed on FB. XD;;

I left for our walk around 4:15 AM and we got home about 5:40. The usual hour and a half or so to walk it the 2.67 mile route. I'm kinda excited for Sunday, my mom agreed to go walking with me on a 'shorter' route. I picked out a mile-long route around the area that I hope she won't be too upset over... My mom has diabetes now and has a diabetic condition where she's losing the feeling in her feet. Her right foot is already completely numb and now she tells me her left foot is starting to go too. She's getting to the point where she doesn't want to drive because she can't feel the pedals and may not be able to keep gardening, so I've been really on her to do what her doctor has been saying and to start following a lower-carb diet like I do and to move around more like I have.. I hope this Sunday will be the start of a weekly jaunt with my mom. (...at least, while the weather is nice... I doubt she'll go walking around when it's -10 up here in the winter..)

So today sadly I was only able to go on my walk with the pups, no swimming. =\ I did weigh myself at my mom's house (because her scale is more accurate than mine) and I've also gone down 2 pounds since Tuesday!!! I'm really excited. I was 304.6 on Tuesday and today I was 302.6, so that's 2 pounds exactly!! I can't wait to hit twoderland!

@Chubbygirl253 - Yeah, I plan on calling my local Y tomorrow. I found out my pool right down the road closes for the year on the 19th!! (..as if we don't have a short enough swimming season up here!) I need to find a new pool fast. I don't know if I have my award letter anymore.. I still have my actual food stamps card (here in NY it's kinda like an ATM card instead of the traditional stamps) and the pin number paper, and I can print out a copy of my bank statements showing my unemployment payments... I hope that works for them. Otherwise tomorrow I'll be checking around to see if I still have the paper saying I was getting them..

Man, that would be awesome to have a personal weight training program. o_o

@AlaskanLaughter - OMG, that would be so super-scary for me. o_o I love all animals, but things that can kill me need to stay the heck away. o_o Amazing that the bear clearly survived! That guy is one tough cookie!

Alright, welp, time for me to update my ticker with my loss, put my dogs away, and go to bed. :) TTYT, folks!!

I walk/jogged my 5k route yesterday and somehow managed to shave 5 minutes off my usual time.

Did NROLFW stage 3 B2 this morning. I love the barbell Romanian deadlift/bent over row combination. Why does it seem my favorite exercises are all Romanian something or other?
I'm glad I did it but it wasn't really the best workout ever. Halfway through my aunt decided it was time for a nice twenty minute chat. I did my warm up again to try to get my heartrate back up but I never did feel like I got in the groove again. Oh well. Company leaves tomorrow.

the weekends are my rest days...and by "rest" i mean getting 483 chores and errands done LOLOL!

yesterday i was busy ALL DAY - from taking recycling to the recycle center, teenager to his sports physical, teenager needed a haircut, grocery shopping, paying bills and taking the kids to an evening birthday party - phew!! i was running around all day...so by "rest" i guess i mean "not doing a workout at the gym" lol

NSV!! at the birthday party i ate NOTHING! - no pizza, no chips, no appetizers, no cake, no ice cream, no candies! that's a first EVER for me...i took my supplements and got my usual nonfat mocha beforehand to take with me, sipped my coffee, and declined everything else

and strangely, it seemed like they really wanted me to eat something even though i was very subtle and shrugged off the food...it was weird and interesting to see...i was offered pizza at least three times and always said "eh i'll grab a piece in a bit" but just never did...was offered cake and said "no not right now, thanks!" and just never got any...and then weirdly enough towards the end of the party my BIL tossed me a reese's cup (pinata candy) and said "you know you want one" and i said "yeah looks good, thanks!" and gave it to my son 5 minutes later...then he did it AGAIN! and said the same thing...weirddd

later on last night i did eat some of the candy that came home with my son, not a ton, but i had a little and then left it alone ever since although it's still sitting over there

today i've been doing laundry and taking the kids to get school clothes, etc...one at a time because it's just easier for me to do it all that way

one time our niece came home at night and didnt shut the door all the way...a black bear followed her into the house and started getting into our garbage INSIDE...

Man, and here I thought the time we got a raccoon in our garage was bad... That's crazy! I'm glad everyone got out unscathed (even the bear!)

As for exercise, I am headed to my university's gym tomorrow after work for a new workout schedule (still have boxing on Tuesday and Thursday but I want more cardio and weights). We'll see how it goes after working 8-4:30 and then hitting the gym! I can't wait for September (even though it means summer ending) because at least then I am out of work by 3:30 most days (teacher in the fall).

I know I just need to push it harder at the gym to see more results so hearing all the stories of success and will power, or even getting back up after a fall, from all you guys is really, really, inspirational! :carrot:

Today I tried a new type of cardio class called PiYo. The name suggests it is a combo of pilates and yoga and I thought I'd do okay because I've been doing yoga for a few weeks. But in terms of active cardio, it was tougher than Zumba! It kicked my tail!

This class is only offered 1 day a week at 12:30 on Sundays. In the middle of this workout I decided they must have planned it that way so that you can go to church and make your peace with God before they kill you in this class. Incidentally, I didn't die but for a few minutes I wished I had. It was HARD! I am exhausted. And proud that I did it.

By the way, I am pretty sure the rest of the class thinks I'm totally nuts because at one particularly weak moment when I was laying on my mat and trying to muster the strength to push myself up and I just started laughing. There I was, sweating buckets, and trying to rise but just lying there like a beached whale and I was laughing like a lunatic because no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get up. It was hilarious to me that I had lost all control of my muscles, arms, and legs. I think it was delirium setting in. And since I plan to do it again next Sunday, I must be crazy.

Time for me to check in! Gonna be a longer post since I didn't post what I did yesterday.

So Saturday and Sunday I didn't sleep much.. a whole 3 hours. Anyway, Saturday morning me and the dogs did our normal 2.69 mile walk.. came home and made the best chicken ever with a home-made marinade I made.. a sweet-and-tangy basil vinigarette that is seriously awesome and knowing I've got 3 more chicken breasts marinaded and ready to go, hoo boy I'm getting hungry already. as usual, I was up all night, so Sunday morning at like, 4 AM we went on our walk again. I'm noticing the dogs start getting super-hyper around midnight and I'm thinking they're getting the idea that we're going to go walking soon so they need that walk to blow off the steam. It took us approximately 1 hour and 4 minutes to walk the nearly 3 mile route! I'm getting a bit faster each time I walk it, which is awesome! I came home and finished putting down new tiles in my front hallway, I had a kitten being adopted later that day and the hallway needed to be done.

Sunday my mom agreed to go walking with me. So after I finished retiling I crashed, and my mom called and woke me back up around 9. Fell asleep on my black-lab/pitbull mix, Axl (he usually acts as my pillow so no problems) and woke back up at 10, got the pups out to bathroom and walked down to my mom's house which is about a half a mile. We then walked a mile route around her house I picked out, had breakfast at her house (eggs, and sausage) and then I went home. Kitten's new owners came and picked her up, and then I went to the mall with my sister to walk around with her (lotts of walking yesterday!) and buy birthday gifts for my mom and my BIL's brother, whom is having his b-day Wednesday. Just gotta get something for my aunt and I'll be set.

Then I was kinda bad, We live in upstate NY so we've never had a PopEye's up here, EVER, and our mall, Carousel, which just got changed into Destiny USA with a huge expansion, now has a PopEye's in the foodcourt. So we decided to try it out. I got a chicken wrap, not knowing at all that 1, chicken is breaded, and 2, the wrap is stuffed with rice and chilli! I also tried to get coleslaw (cause that's ok on low-carb) but they were out of it, so I opted for the next-best on a low-carb which was mashed potatos... Which IS bad.. very bad. In the long run my sister and I should have just gotten the 2-piece chicken meal and taken the breading off the chicken and we would have been fine... their biscuits are freaking amazing though, we were all impressed. Either way, I need to stay good for the entire week because Sunday we're having our celebration for my mom's and my aunt's birthdays and I obviously will be having some stuff then. Sunday's kinda a cheat-day for me though I've been trying to keep it contained to one item I normally can't have and not a whole day of eating all the no-nos like my sister does. (Though she's at her goal weight and been maintaining so she's fine.)

So yah. I bought a notebook at Wal-mart and been using it as my food log, so I can keep track.. noted everything. About to go eat my breakfast, take the dogs out, and then off to the pool for me! Then when I get home it'll be time to call the Y and see how I get set-up there and then I gotta call my bank and make my mortgage payment. :P You ladies have a good day!

girl253 - you are such an inspiration to me!! I never take those classes, to afraid!! You have such determination and confidence. Wow, lady!

Just a quick check in - got my run in on Saturday...ended up going a bit further to find a bathroom...ugh. The bushes just doesn't seem like a viable option to me. After that I did another mile with my daughter, then another 1.5 to a birthday party and back. I had a little over 11 miles on my middle aged momma legs by the end of the day - I went to bed at 9pm! Yesterday I did an 1800yd swim - did my first 2x500yd solid. I rested for 2 minutes in between sets and am really pleased!

Also, after a year of being in the 160's, I FINALLY weighed in at 159.8 this morning. I'm glad I decided to buck up again this summer and get it done. It's sometimes easy to say "Well, I've already lost a lot of weight, I can stop." I can 't stop til I'm done!

i did my usual workout this morning...tried for the 0.7 mile intervals which is up a bit from last week...it was hard, had to really push for it but i think it's a mental thing also...however it triggered my asthma badly which is really odd...the last little bit was more a fight through my breathing than fighting to keep my legs going...worked all morning , then spent almost 2 hours going through teenager's high school orientation with him...finally home to sit down for a bit :)

well mortonpixie, YOU are an inspiration to me because of your running! Awesome! I just started c-2-5k last week and I love it but it's hard. So HARD for me! But I have found that I am doing pretty well repeating week 1 on land and moving on to week 2 in the water. Jogging in the water is so much easier for me and lower impact, yet I'm still training those muscles. I think I will be ready to do week 2 on land next week and move up to week 3 in the water if I get in 3 sessions of each this week. But 11 miles? You amaze me! I am good at trying new classes. I'm really outgoing so it isn't a struggle to push myself to do it. I guess I look at exercise classes like I would view clothes when I was working retail. You aren't allowed to dislike it on the hanger. You have to at least try it on! Just like an outfit on a hanger can be deceiving, so can a class. Some are nothing like you thought. Some are much better than you hope! Since I checked out yoga first, my friend has started going too and it's her fave now. I don't mind being the guinea pig!

Had a pretty rough workout today. Sheesh they're all tough. But I did well. And I'm super duper proud because I went from not even being able to do the elliptical for 5 minutes, to doing it today for 35 mins! In addition to 2.5 hrs of other various cardio. Including 5 mins on the rowing machine, also new for me!

Diet is going swell but my BIL who worships a Hawaiian Meatball recipe I've been making for years (always a crowd-pleaser) finally realized his chances of me making them when I'm dieting is slim to none. So he bought all the ingredients and made them himself following my directions and now the house smells heavenly (I share a house with them). I tasted one and I'm glad he added some extra spice to it so I'm not tempted.

i bought something cute to wear out friday night...i'm WAY nervous about this LOL...we're going to watch the friday night fights in town, one of our buddies is fighting in it...sort of a mixed martial arts thing....the event has a sort of bar-type atmosphere

last month i bought a black stretchy miniskirt and havent had a reason to ever wear it anywhere....so i'm wearing that, and black nylons and black high heels...and i looked all over the store here and finally settled on a turquise top that has a shaped bra-cup area (for support, thank god) and straps and tied together in the back with a wooden circle thing....i'm sure my description is awful but its' CUTE!!!...and i could fit it, and it looks decent...so unless i chicken out, that's what i'm wearing to the fights...i wonder if i'm brave enuf :)

Hey ya'll, Thanks for sharing your exercise posts. I have a question if someone could help me please. I am nowhere near my goal but, I have been walking 6 days a week for about a year and have lost some weight but, my problem lies in my 'weight loss' areas: My legs and rear-end have gotten smaller but not my tummy. I try to hold it in tight while I walk. 3 c-sections and virtually no exercise for 7 years has taken it's toll on my body, especially my tummy. Any ideas of what I can do beyond the traditional sit-ups? I live in the middle of nowhere (town population: 67 give or take a few dogs and goats) and do not have access to a gym or YMCA or anything? Any suggestions ya'll have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

@mortonpixie - Yay! Good for you! ^_^ I'm glad you finally got out of the 160s and into the 150s!! It's those mini-goals we reach that keep us going I think. I'm looking forward to my weigh-in tomorrow.. Hoping this will be the day I hit the 200s!

@CG253 - You inspire me too. I can't imagine alllll that working out you do every day. I hope to get that way someday, but right now I can't afford the gas or a gym... including the Y.

Went swimming around 4 PM and till pool close at 5:45. I took it easier today, and spent a lot of time under the water, trying to increase how long I'm able to hold my breath, but I did still to a few laps across the width of the pool and worked on .. I think the butterfly, I have no idea.. I found a way to secure myself at the deep end at the bottom by pushing up on the last step of the ladder (because any attempts I have to get to the bottom otherwise ... forget it, I probably could never drown, I am so buoyant that getting to the bottom is near-impossible!), which is such a surreal view to me, to look straight up and see the sun filtering in through the water is crazy cool looking. Had a run-in with... a rather exuberant kid that insisted on following me around the pool and then followed me home on his bike.... the kids are getting used to seeing me every day so they're trying to include me in on their fun, I think.. Since he asked if I was going to be at the pool tomorrow I think I'll be pestered by him again tomorrow.. We'll see.

Checked with my local Y, apparently all 3 of them have a year-round pool, and membership cost is based on income. I have to bring my cover letter for unemployment benefits with me when I sign up, but normal cost... egads, 50 bucks a month. I think if they can get it to next-to-nill based on the food stamps / unemployment combo I'll go, but otherwise... I can't afford 50 bucks a month. yeesh.

Anyway, will be taking my walk soon. ^_^ Talk to you all tomorrow!

wolfshadow- definitely take in your assistance/benefits paperwork. The regular cost in my area is $54 but because I am not working and get unemployment I got a 50% discount. It is well worth the $27 I pay so at least go back with your paperwork and see what they tell you.

@ hsmomof3: I wish we choose what areas to reduce from! I've always heard you can't spot reduce but if you're looking to tone up tummy muscles there are a few variations on sit ups that stop it from being so boring. Russian twists or planks help break up the monotony for me and make sure you keep your abs flexed through your others lifts as well, like in push-ups or even just squats. A lot of stability relies on ab work as well, like one-legged squats and such. I hope that helps a little :)

@Wolfshadow: So awesome how much you get to swim, I wish we had a public pool around here but alas, I'm without water! There's a YMCA but I don't belong and I can't afford both a "regular gym" and my boxing gym, and my University gym is sans pool, sadly. Blah! It's wicked cool that you're upping your breath capacity; that must help in other areas as well, like endurance.

Well, I stuck with my gym work-out yesterday and my legs are hurting today! But it's worth it, it's a good ache. However, running and then legs and then driving home was NOT a good idea. Every time I put the clutch in I saw stars. I don't think I've ever coasted so far in neutral as I did yesterday! :D

Thousandsunny: Thanks for the name of some things I have never even heard of. I am going to look up how to do them and work on them for a while. I too wish we could choose our areas in which we lose weight. I used to have a nicer bottom....lol I'm sure that age and gravity have not helped me in that department.

I have done 2 of my 3 walks already today. Hoping the rain holds off for a few more hours so I can get my last one in. Every week I walk a little bit further before I turn around and I have been making sure to semi-powerwalk at least the first half.

Good news is that I can climb trails and such with my boys now and they don't have to wait on me. I used to just sit in the truck and wait for them or slow them waaaayy down waiting for their out of shape, out of breath Mom. They notice now that I can keep up and that keeps me going daily.

Well, thanks thistleberry, glad you enjoyed my PiYo post. If you think that was funny you shoulda seen it in person. I'm sure the people that witnessed it went home and had a good belly laugh. They probably sat around their Sunday supper table and told their families about the freak show that went on in class. The facial expressions from the lady on the mat beside me is haunting me even now, 2 days later. She managed to look disturbed, concerned, full of pity, and a little scared all at the same time. Pretty sure she won't place her mat beside me again. Oh, did I mention the big window in the classroom with treadmills facing us on the other side? Those people walking the treadmills must have had quite the view. I know, because the other 3 walls of the classroom are MIRRORED like a ballet studio. Like I needed to see that! Fortunately I lost the ability to hold my head up and the sweat was blurring my vision anyway.

Doing much better now though! We all gotta be able to laugh at ourselves.

@ChubbyGirl253 - Yeah, I will. It's at least worth a shot.... .. now I have to try to find my cover letter for my unemployment and my award letter for food stamps... I .. tend to lose stupid things like that. >< Thankfully my pool is open until the 19th so I still have time to secure the papers. I'll go looking tonight, I have a few ideas of where they could be.

@ThousandSunny - Thanks! Yeah, upping the breath capacity is something I really want to work on, and I think it's been helping me with my nightly walks with the dogs. Mom and my sis have noticed I'm keeping up with them more, and I've started to notice that sitting down too much or for too long makes my back hurt.. now I HAVE to get up and move around or else I'm miserable!

So last night we went walking at the usual 4 AM, we got back around 5:30, but part of that is because we stopped a few times to get the dogs untangled from each other.

Went swimming today from 4 PM to 5:45, so got a bit over an hour and a half in. Did some more laps, some butterfly and some normal swimming, but also did a lot of kicking under water, some breath holding, and the like. My new tag along, the exuberant boy from yesterday, was there yet again today and insisted on splashing me as soon as I hopped in the pool. ...and somehow has the ability to actually scream like a girl under water. (No, seriously. I was starting my first lap, and I was under the water... and I hear SCREAMING. I look to my left and there's the kid, screaming at me as I pass him, totally under the water like I was. If I didn't have goggles I wouldn't of seen this but.. oye vey.) And of course, he followed me almost the whole way home on his bike. Thankfully this nonsense will stop when the pool closes on the 19th. 9_9 Ah well. He kinda reminds me of my brother in law so it doesn't bother me much honestly. Why he's got such a fascination with me is anybody's guess, I assume it's because I'm fat and he thinks a fat 'old lady' at the pool is funny, but eh. It's not like he's said anything overly harsh or anything so it's fine. (Besides, it wouldn't be the first time anyone's said anything so I would probably just shrug it off like normal.)

Will be taking my walk with the pups around 12:30-1 AM today instead of 4 AM like normal and then we'll be going to bed. You ladies have a nice night and I'll catch up tomorrow!

it was a rough day today...traumatic in a way...on the main road that leads past our school playground, there was a fatal motorcycle crash...i had been watching the road to see my DH ride his motorcycle back to work...i went inside for a moment and the staff immediately closed the playground and moved the kids inside, telling me there had been a motorcycle crash...all i could think about was if it was my DH...i dont think i even THOUGHT, i just ran back out across the playground, out the gate to the street....it looked just like his motorcycle and the body was covered on the sidewalk...all i could see was his feet and no one should EVER EVER have to look at a dead person's feet to know if it's their husband's...i'm still horribly shook up...and DH is fine...RIP motorcycle rider :(

When I've got just a short time to exercise at home I usually bust out my jump rope or hula hoop or just turn on the radio and dance. So much fun! But it sounds like you're looking more for strength than cardio. There are about a million variations on planks, squats and lunges that you could try. Just flying off the top of my head I'd also say maybe jumping jacks, burpees, bridges, prone cobra w/ or w/o flutter kicks... Google bodyweight exercises and I'm sure you'll get tons of ideas.

Walking wasn't so much fun in the wind this morning. Bothers my ears but, I'd still rather be outside while I still can because I know that I will be stuck on a treadmill all winter long. Last night I started doing more tummy muscle exercises and OH MY GOODNESS, I didn't know that my sides were getting the work out too. I mean, I know it's good but, I wasn't prepared for the soreness this morning. Walked through it anyway and I am trying to stretch a bit all throughout the day so this evening they won't hurt while I do some more. I know I will get used to it....time and patience.

@ alaskanlaughter - depending on the type of shapewear that you get, It isn't anymore uncomfortable than trying to suck it in and stay aware of when you aren't all night long. And when you're wearing it, it really does smooth everything out. I wouldn't discount it yet, keep it in mind.

All you ladies rock! What amazing inspiration!! I was on vacation (and then playing catch-up at work) for the last couple of weeks. I managed to still run 3x per week and do my ab/arms/squats during my holiday!

I have been running approx 5k for every run and I will be going up to 6k next week. eek. I am really starting to feel good about my 8k in October. Like I will actually finish it without dying. haha. As a reward for my dedication and not missing a run since June, I am getting fitted for new runners tomorrow AND buying myself an Ipod Shuffle!

Oh, and I signed up for a weekly Zumba class that starts next month. Soooo excited!

Have a fantastic day, ladies :)

ohhhh ugh i was on my feet ALL DAY...literally, no joke...i set up my entire classroom, the physical labor, moving heavy furniture and file cabinets etc all morning...i had a staff person come over who helped with the biggest stuff and did some other small tasks...my intern also came for the afternoon and helped out...she did tasks while i did a huge shopping trip to several stores...i dont think i sat down longer than it took to eat a salad lol....my feet hurt SO BAD...

i bought a bar of 90% dark chocolate this afternoon...it's pretty good, not sweet at all...sort of like eating baking cocoa LOL but i can definitely eat this as a treat without binging because the sweetness is mostly gone...i had planned for weeks to buy this if i could finish out the summer with my early morning workouts...one more workout tomorrow :)

today i did 20 mins strength training and 2 hrs 10 mins of cardio. Gonna hit the y really hard tomorrow.
Had burger and fries from mcdonalds tonight but I stayed within my calorie goal. That isn't ideal but at least I ate light enough the rest of the day it won't hurt me too much. I hope!
Lost 4 more lbs when I weighed this morning! woohoo

had my last early morning workout this morning....when school starts next week i work a split shift, 7-8 a.m. and then 12-6 p.m....so i will be working out around 10 a.m. after teenager goes to high school

today i'm finishing up all the loose ends in getting my program up and running for the start of school...a thousand little details that make the program successful...i still have no staff :(...tonight we're going to the fights and i have a cute outfit...im a little nervous about that lol

I am so close to meeting my August goal a week early. I just need to lose 4 more lbs. I think I can do that by next Thursday's weigh-in if I really work at it. I know I can do it!
Today is the 1st day in a looong loooooong time that I woke up and said I don't want to exercise. I don't wanna go to the Y. I'd rather go back to bed. But I'm not giving in to that. I have a goal to conquer!

I know how you feel, next week is when we get into school to start setting up and I'm stressing already. It's about time to head over to Staples buy about $300 in school supplies. :dizzy:

I hit the gym yesterday, amazed I made myself go! I did 30 minutes legs (on the bike) and then abs and arms. I'm tired but it's worth it. :carrot:

So time for me to check in.

Kiiinda frustrated this week. I went down to 302 Friday last week and then Tuesday came around and I was 305.. And I've been working out more than ever before so, wtf?!

I think part of it was I over-did it on the low carb ice cream and ice pops... they're low carb.. for A serving, not 2 or 3 at a time... So that was my bad. My sweet tooth got the better of me.

Anyway, today we went out to Ponderosa for my mom's birthday (it's tomorrow) and I'm really proud of the fact that I could have, like my mom, loaded up on sweets and sugars and said what the heck, but I didn't. I stayed low-carb and had shrimp, steak, and chicken, and then some taco beef with cheese sause. All low-carb and all OK.

I'm still learning to not eat just because I'm bored. I'm still kinda full from earlier but it's probably good to eat a small item so my metabolism keeps going. Maybe a small tuna salad...

Anyway, swam Monday, walked Monday, Tuesday I swam and walked as well. Wednesday my sister decided she had to come over to be babysat so I didn't get to go to the pool, and I was really exhausted from running all over with her (we walked about 3/4ths of a mile to the local big-lots) so I didn't do my normal near-3-miles walk that day. Swam yesterday but no walk because I had an upset stomach! UGH! Then today my mom and I hung out for her birthday and I treated her to lunch and all and she complained that my sister and brother in law costed her 40 bucks for her birthday while I actually spent money on her, considering I'm on unemployment and my sis and her hubby make 50,000 a year combined. Oh well, I guess it's nice to hear in her own way that I was being considerate and she had a good time.

Adopted two kitties out today!! YAY! Will be taking the dogs with me tonight for our walk as normal and get back into the swing of things.

While my mom and I were out we hit Wal-Mart in Clay, NY, not our normal one in Cicero.. Picked up new tires for my bike and I'm pretttty sure my mom's gonna get me a bike helmet for Christmas... But also, I FOUND A SWIM CAP ON CLEARANCE *AND* a nose plug and ear plugs! I am SO going to the pool tomorrow to swim and try them out! YAY!

Alright, speak to you fine ladies tomorrow! ^_^

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the board but would love to connect with other 30s warriors here.

My name is Maureen and I'm 33. I've been doing Chalean Extreme for almost a month now. Will finish the Burn Phase next week. So that's what I did today, Burn It Off (high intensity workout for 27 minutes) then a stretching exercise too.

Have a great weekend :)

Thank you Wolfshadow, Chalean Extreme is different than Zumba. It uses a lot of strength training using dumbbells or bands but also have days where we do cardio. I've tried Turbo Fire but found the pivoting too hard to do :)

Sat is my day off from the y and regimented exercise but I still try to do some activity. Today my mama and I took my 2 yr nephew to the ocean. Got about 90 mins of walking in sand and playing in the freezing cold waves. But he had an absolute blast! It was a good day, and the kiddo slept the whole 2 hour drive home which was much better than the non-stop Are-we-there-yets during the drive there.

@Chubbygirl253: The ocean is a great workout and 90 minutes?! I'd be asleep the whole two hour ride right along with the little one.

As for me, I am off on a bike ride today, hopefully. I didn't do anything yesterday so I'm a bit peeved with myself but I won't let one day become "Oh I'll start back Monday" like I usually do. :o

Late-date Edit: Did 17 miles on the bike path; Google calculated 1900 calories burned, haha! Went out for dinner after and had gluten free pizza with spinach and black olives and splurged on a diet soda. All in all, felt good about the pizza. It was also, literally, the only thing I had to eat today save 1 egg and a piece of toast (poor planing on our parts.) So, I am okay with it! The only thing I should have done is moderated how much pizza I ate because I am coming home sans leftovers. Oh well, I'm still pretty happy with the day!

my exercise is going good. Yesterday was my day off from exercising at the Y but my mama and I took my 2-yr-old nephew Aiden to the ocean. Spent 90 mins walking on sand and playing in the surf/wave jumping. We had so much fun!

Today was back to the Y and my usual routine of machines and classes.

Today was PiYo cardio, the really hard class I tried last Sunday. I'm so proud of myself for going back today in addition to:
30mins strength training
45mins elliptical w/arms
35mins cross trainer
10mins rowing machine
5 mins stair stepper machine---HARD!!! I'll get better, it was my 1st time

All in all I got 2.5 hrs cardio and .5 hrs strength training today. I'm sore but in the good way.

im just writing and posting because i keep things in my head too long...ive had such sinus problems and sore throat this weekend and i know it's because i spent two days inhaling dust in my classroom...and sometimes at night, when i'm home alone with everything done, i just get overwhelmed with sadness and i'm not sure where it even comes from

im stressed because i start the winter program at my school tomorrow...on my own, with no staff, with new students, with no computer hooked up and a ton of things that i still need to do...i'm sad that i wont be seeing the students that i worked with all summer because they are at another school...im still getting used to the idea that my baby boy is going off to high school...i dont think i even LOOK like a high school mom :( but some days i just feel so very very old

on top of the motorcycle accident this week that took someone's life...today we learned that someone from our village committed suicide last night :( i didnt know him but he was the BIL of someone that i know very well...and i know he was out last night looking for his BIL only to find him dead...and i know that family is grieving and i dont have any way to reach any of them in the village...and i want so badly to reach out to them and i cant :(

i dont know whats wrong with me to be so very very sad tonight and emotional....or if i'm even making any sense

Alaskanlaughter, I am so sorry to hear about all the loss recently in your life. I pray that you can find a peace and stay positive about something. There has to be something.

I, too, have a high-schooler this year. Although, he is my oldest it still doesn't feel like he should be this old. Because I am not that old.

Well, anyway, I hiked on Saturday and even if I didn't keep up with the kids the entire way, I still hung in there and finished the whole hike without dying.
Today was back to walking/power-walking but, I am starting to have some really bad pain in my heel. I have a check-up with a new doctor on Wednesday so maybe I will ask him about it if it doesn't feel better by then. I will also be weighed that day....UGH!

alaskanlaughter- I'm so sorry! Things are hard right now but it will get better. keep your head up. prayers are coming your way!

I got 3 hours of cardio in today:
15 mins rowing machine
5 mins stair stepping machine (feels like 5 hours!)
45 mins elliptical
45 mins recumbent cross trainer machine
45 mins yoga
25 mins c25k training walking/jogging in intervals

And I'm super duper proud of myself because I moved up to week 2 of c25k today and I did it! I wasn't sure I could, but I did! I'm so awesome!

Hey guys, time for me to check in.

So this Saturday was my mom's birthday and we've literally been celebrating all weekend. I didn't walk most of the week, but I was swimming since it was the last week the pool's open. Now it's time to find my unemployment and food stamps awards letters and see if I can get a membership at the Y.

So Saturday I went swimming from 2 until 4:15. I did a TON of laps instead of the normal lighter workout, and man were my legs feeling it. I then walked .5 miles to my mom's with her gifts. Didn't do my normal walk that night which I was kinda upset at myself over. We went to Denny's and I caved and decided to cheat since everybody else was getting what they wanted. Had the strawberry / white chocolate pancake puppies and a 'midwestern' sandwhich which is pot roast, mashed potatos and gravy, and fries on a bun. So bad for you but SO good. Plus they gave mashed potatos as a side... So full.

Yesterday, Sunday was the party with my grandma and other extended family, and Grandma of course, had to say something snarky about how much I ate (which was easily less than my BIL whom has one of those metabolisms where he gets to eat everything he wants and doesn't gain a pound)..

Anyway, did my walk last night and took me about an hour and a half to do.. Also did some lifts with my pair of 3 pound barbells. 5 Below sells 5 pound ones for 5 bucks each, I'll probably be investing in a pair soon.

Today, I finally got my bike fixed! Took a 3 mile bikeride, lasted about an hour. MAN my legs are feeling it!! I worked muscles I didn't even think I had!

Weighed myself and thankfully I only gained 1.8 pounds from the 2 day cheat event, which shouldn't be too hard to take back off. My mom said she was proud of me for 'not letting the numbers get to me' and that the weight will come back off. D'aww.

Anyway, plan on taking my walk again but I'm debating if it'll be a shorter version since my legs are kinda sore from my bike ride or if I'll do the whole nearly 3-mile walk. Talk to you ladies later!

Just a check in ladies - you are all doing so well!!

I'm a home schooler and school started last week - I also took on a brother/sister duo in daycare for 2 days a week...well, they brought a gift with them called Hand Foot & Mouth Disease which sounds really scary but is just a virus...gross. I closed the daycare for today and tomorrow and my 3yo is so miserable he hasn't eaten since Saturday. :( Sores in his mouth and down his throat - poor, poor baby.

Anyhow - too busy to read all the posts right now, just got back from the gym...lower body weights and a 1000yd swim. I lost another pound last week, so that's great...slow and steady I suppose. Gotta fly off and make supper, I need to clean my bike tonight so I can ride in the morning.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!

I had my 6 month old niece here today and didn't have a stroller. I had planned to walk while she slept and have my oldest son keep an eye on her but, she woke up everytime I put her down. So, I sat on my arse holding her through 3 different naps today. I was uber-grumpy by the time dinner came around and I was suprised at how snappy I was with my family.
I felt like I had a whole day without accomplishing anything worth value.

After dinner I had to walk, if nothing else for my own sanity. I walked twice as far as normal but, it was still only 1 walk compared to 3. Disappointed:?:

Tomorrow is my birthday and my doctor appointment/weigh-in. Hoping it goes well enough that my mood is not ruined for my entire birthday.

Keep up the good work girls. You are inspiring me to not quit. ~ Thanks.

hsmomof3 -HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I know about the "accomplishing nothing" thing with babies. I took a newborn in the daycare in March...seems I get little to nothing done on the days that he;s here. But holding and caring for a child is a noble effort in itself. Dirt and chores and even our own intentions will always be there...babes will not.

Quick  to you all!! Went out and rode my bike on the highways this morning...it was beautiful weather and i was happy to be out on the peaceful roads. I took some photos that I will post on my blog later. Sad, really - in 30 miles of riding I only stopped to take 2 pictures. I need to get my priorities straight!

Off to church for our AWANA program's kick off! I'm with the 3rd and 4th graders again this year. YOUTH ON THE MARCH!!

Ladies, I'm feeling so frustrated right now. I could really use some encouragement. The scale, she's been in a snit and I can't for the life of me figure out why. At first I thought it was just because I worked out a lot this weekend. I had some great lifting sessions in which I was making gains right, left and center, I zumba-d, I walked, I ran, I swam. Thing is, I don't typically hold on to exercise induced water weight this long.
The only unusual thing I've done is that I got a tetanus shot on Monday. Could that make you retain? I haven't a clue.

I know that I'm being irrational about this. I've had far worse stalls/inexplicable gains that lasted for far longer. I think it's just that I was so excited to be in the 140s and was there for a good week and then suddenly my body threw me right back into the 150s. And once again I'm looking at a whopping 1 pound lost for the month when I've worked SO hard for more.

Yesterday I got home from work late and tried to talk myself out of taking my jog. "Why should I when it won't do a damn bit of good?" I asked. Whined, really. There was a liberal amount of mental whining going on. "Because you like to do it! Because it would feel good! Because it would reduce some of that stress, you cranky little sloth." The whiny part of me conceded this was true, but I couldn't help feeling a little defeated because I was sure the scale would be up at next weigh-in and probably because of it.
Sure enough, this morning it was.

The whiny, cranky sloth side isn't supposed to be right. :(

I'm supposed to lift tonight and I still plan to do it but the whiny, cranky sloth side is very much wondering if it's worth it.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Have I killed the thread? I don't think I've ever seen it sit this long.

I'm much improved from my last post. We all have down days, you know? My workout that night was probably the best I've had a in a long time. You know how some times it all just feels like it comes together? You just hit that exact right mood, the music is perfect, and you just feel IT (whatever it is) from the top of your head to the tips of your toes? It was one of those. I was psyched. I took yesterday off and then hit it again early this morning. I'm a little sad this stage of NROLFW is over but excited to start the next at the beginning of the month.

I'd really like to try something different during my week break from lifting but I'm not sure what to do. I'll have to think on that.

@Thistleberry - Y'gotta keep in mind, we're women. And as we go through weight loss, our bodies retain water, especially since we're on the 30-somethings board, that means most of us still have the TOM. (I don't, but once I get below 270 that'll come back.... NOT looking forward to it....) Furthermore! We're all exercising, and muscle does indeed weigh more than fat. Some of us are also bigger-built than others. Not all of us are going to look like the Victoria's Secret gals. I know for a fact I'm not, I can't wrap my fingers 'round my wrist.. which means I am stocky-built and big-boned. I'll be lucky if I get into the 160s, though 140 is my goal. You also have to keep in mind that some of us just, aren't made to get to 140, 130, we're meant to be 150 or so. It's about your health, not just the number on the scale... Plus, any pound lost, is a pound lost.

Take me for example. I weighed myself yesterday and I went DOWN, finally, for the first time in two weeks (I had hit 302 but then my mom's bday happened and I shot up to 304, and then 306...) and then yesterday, after a VERY extensive workout at the Y, I finally did it, and hit the 200s! 299.0!!! ...and then I weighed myself again so my mom could see, and it said 299.8! WTF, right?

First thing today, I had eaten at Ponderosa with mom, stayed on Atkins and only ate the sugar-free, etc, the meats, the eggs, the cheeses. Weighed myself as soon as we got home, just for kicks. 303. I don't think I ate 4 pounds of food in one sitting! I had a plate and a half at the breakfast buffet, and an omelet!! We're talking less than 12 hours since the 299 weigh-in! And it seems to be, I'll bobble. But as long as I'm consistently going down, the gain here or there is fine, as long as it comes back off eventually. You're doing the right thing by working out. Your body is adjusting, replacing fat with muscle, and you're SO close to goal! These last 20 or so pounds are going to be the HARDEST TO LOSE ever!!! Do NOT give up! Slow and steady wins the race!

ive had an insanely busy week this week, getting the school program going, new students that i dont know yet, my own kids in school etc etc....ive managed to go run every day of the work week between my split shift schedule at school...i was doing 1.6 miles total and trying for 0.8 mile intervals...it's killing me...its SO SO hard on my lungs even with Advair AND an inhaler, i get side stitches, i get back cramps near my lungs...once i cramped near my lung so bad i had to actually stop and i can usually push myself through things

only 3 times out of 5 did i manage to push out two intervals of 0.8 miles...i finished the distance but not in the intervals like i'd planned the other times...i think i might change it up and go for four intervals of half miles each next week for 2 miles ran total...i also do some fast walking afterwards on the treadmill as a prolonged cooldown...

the scale has peeked at 188 (!! lowest weight ever!) and has stayed between 189-192 and i expected a bigger jump up than that...normally directly after TOM it's the lowest of the month, then jumping up many pounds and hovering there for the rest of the month

today i walked two miles in a Beat the Odds cancer fundraiser walk....LOTS of people there...i walked with a friend from work who just had a baby...the pace was much slower than i'd like but it was an awesome time and a great walk through the rainforest trail...even got some running socks at the end and another event tee-shirt LOL

then i tackled bills, errands, shopping etc and finally crashed around 5 p.m. for a nap...i'm just now finishing dinner and its 8 p.m., much later than normal for dinner

also my eating has been much lower calories this week because i dont eat much in the mornings before my run....after my run i go back to work and ive been so busy i've barely eaten there either...then i come home at 6 p.m. and eat dinner lol

Ok, so anyway, I need to check in.

Mom's birthday was like, a 2 day eating freeday Ate a lot. Too much, but unlike my mom who gained 5 pounds from the event, me and my working out, I only gained 2. Was up to 306 on the 20th. Of course, even though my BIL and his brother (.....what do I call that? BIL#2?!) ate FAR more than I did.. (I think my BIL, the one actually married to my sis, Charlie, ate nearly all the salami offered..! But he's got one of those metabolisms where he can eat whatever the heck he wants and never needs to worry. Since he moved to America for my sister, he's gained... A WHOLE 10 POUNDS over the 4 years he's been here from his native El Salvador! Lucky brat! and his little brother, BIL#2, Christian, IS THE SAME WAY. LUCKY BRATS, both of them! XP ) Bah, anyway, starting to ramble. But anyway, so because I'm the fat one, my grandma had to make SOME snarky remark about how much I ate.. She has these unspoken rules that she puts out TONS of food, says she wants us to eat our fill cause she doesn't want to have to put it all away, except for me. So then she gets mad at me for doing that, because I'm fat. Nearly stormed out, but, didn't wanna ruin my mom's day.

I followed ChubbyGirl's advice and checked out my local Y. Being alone on Unemployment and Food stamps makes my monthly fee a whole whopping 17.33 a month. I can afford that for free, everyday access to a HEATED INDOOR POOL. So I joined! They offer Karate there too, but there's no way I'll be able to swing that... They want 53 dollars A SESSION for a member.... and that's something I would have to look into AFTER I find the new job.. And once I do get a job my fee jumps to 30 a month at LEAST.. so, 80 a week for karate lessons? That's a bit pricy for me. Maybe if, and when, I get a boyfriend who moves in, or I find THE ONE (hah... I doubt it...) maybe then... but as a single female in her own house with all the big-girl bills... nope.

Anyway, so I went to the pool and did a few laps... And then I was doing a lap and was about to turn around for home from the deep end, and there was a bunch of women, much older than I for the most part, getting styrofoam weights? and belts on made of foam? And they're like "Would you like to join us for water arobics?" "....uhhhh.... ...I... guess...?"

OMG MY BODY SO SORE.

Took a LONG shower afterward (and had my first run in with a naked woman existing her shower. o_o;;;;; ) and after that decided since my bum knee was bugging me, I would use the LOCKABLE handicapped shower so I could sit and use the massage-spray function on my bum knee to help it out... That worked a little, but I still managed to have to down a few painkillers once I got home.. After the shower and changing into my workout pants I got on the elipictal for 18 minutes total (15 workout + 3 minute cool down) and then finally went home, visited my mom and weighed in.. AND I FINALLY DID IT!!

299.0!!! I gasped SO LOUD and my mom was like "....what?!" and then I SCREEAAMMMED like a teen setting sights on Justin Bieber.. My mom was so proud of me that she bought me some exercise shorts today, a new pair of capri jeans (A SIZE 26!! I haven't fit into a size 26 IN EONSSSSS!!!) and, my favorite, a new black hoodie, which with my sister's help I'll be plastering an Assassin's Creed logo on the back of that sucker and 'beaking' the hood- I love making my own gaming-inspired clothing and I've been wanting to make an AC hoodie for myself for a while now. ^_^

So anyway, I'm just flabbergasted at the past week. All the weeks I was working out (and I figured I had the most workouts and was staying consistent), I GAINED GAINED GAINED! And my mom tried to keep me upbeat about it.. but this past week, my best friend in Kansas quit her old job at Kansas University to start a new job at Garmin... and she has anxiety.. well, her anxiety took over and she had a panic attack on orientation day and lost the new job.. so she tried to go back to KU and they told her to buzz off. When she's down we RP online alot to keep her mind off of things and take the edge off... and then just yesterday she called me in tears because her car broke down and needs a $1,000+ dollar repair and now she's out of work.. she needs to go to counselings and get on her anxiety meds again and she has no health insurance..... so I didn't get ANY working out done because I've been trying to be there for her this past week and RP RP RP to keep her mind out of it... She's doing a bit better but, I just find it odd. I worked out, I gained weight. I didn't work out, I lost. But I'm not gonna stop!! I'll be taking my walk with the dogs tonight after Casshern Sins is done and my friend heads to bed... then bed for me right afterward. I hopefully have a meet-and-greet with some people who want one of my adoptable kittens... so I gotta be up in enough time for that.

Anyway, you ladies have a fine day or evening! Sorry for the super-long post, but that's just my nature... I'm a talker!

way to go!! i know the feeling of finally getting to a size/weight/etc that you havent seen in EONS!! way to go!! so nice of your mom to get you some things too!

i sure can understand trying to be there for someone like you with your friend...my sister has very limited coping skills plus mental health issues and substance abuse problems...she calls me ALL THE TIME over things that, to her, represent Major Crisis! but to others are just average-day happenings such as boyfriend being a few minutes late home from work etc...she forgets what hours i say i'm working, she forgets that i'm in evening meetings (and i truly think she does forget, rather than being rude) and often cant remember half our phone conversations anyhow

@AlaskanLaughter - OH GOD I KNOW RIGHT?! My little sister is THE SAME WAY, only without the substance abuse. Only problem is she refuses to see anyone and get diagnosed for sure and get the help she needs to cope with her issues (She is, at the VERY least, Bipolar, OCD, and maybe some traces of Manic Depressive..) Either way, she's a handful. AND she's spontaneous when she needs attention. She calls, and wants you RIGHT THEN AND THERE and if you are busy or have plans, she gets SUPER TICKED at you. I mean, there was a time, I mentioned I had a VERY light Pina Colada (with a TRACE or Rum!) at a friend's house.... ....she cried for 3 days and refused to speak to me, claiming she didn't know me anymore.

Granted, I can sort of understand? When I hit 21 I didn't get any booze because I didn't want to end up an achoholic like my dad (Dad was abusive verbally/sexually/physically so I can see her fear of any booze) but, honestly, I only had it because it was the lightest drink available and my friends made it super-light for me because they knew of my past (I'm pretty open.) and plus I had to drive home with the boyfriend at the time, and honestly I think they kept the rum out because I didn't notice it at all. BUT OMG that was worthy of a panic attack.

At least my friend in Kansas IS on meds and KNOWS she has issues and knows how to talk them out..... my sister is too proud for it, even though given what we went threw with our upbringing, we probably both could use someone to talk to. We never did anything and even when our mom knew what had gone on we couldn't afford to kick my dad out... and his pedophilia never went away. So the best we could do was purchase keylocks and deadbolts for our bedrooms that he couldn't pick the lock to.. and he was condemned to build his own bedroom in the basement. I guess he should have been happy about that even though he complained that it was a jail cell.. It could have been a real jail cell and the other inmates don't treat guys that were like him.. but regardless we tried to forgive him and he died a free man.. But I just wish my sis would be up and willing to get help.. it's like right now.

She has fleas REALLY BAD at her house. She keeps blaming me (because I rescue all the critters and have 18 cats and 3 dogs right now, only 3 cats and 2 dogs are my own and everybody else is foster from before I lost my job) but, I don't have fleas here because the dogs get treated with Revolution and the cats get PetArmor. I tell her what she needs to do. BIL and her, they make 50,000 a year. I tell her 'get Pet Armor at Wal-Mart (her workplace! SHE GETS A DISCOUNT!!!!) for big dogs, then you drain each tube into a RX bottle and then take an oral syringe and dose it out on each kitty based on weight, and that should give her enough topical for the rest of summer and for all 4 kitties. You're gonna need to bomb ye-old house. wash ALL your bedding, take the flea spray, spray your mattress down with it and then put a zippered vinyl sheet to it so the fleas can't get out and die from the flea spray.

She and BIL cut me off and say I don't know what I'm talking about, I didn't go to Flea 101, and proceed to buy the $6.00 Hartz stuff (which I warned her can KILL her cats!!) and don't bomb the house. Now the kitties have a topical on that she refuses to reapply with the GOOD stuff, BIL's dad is visiting from El Salvador next month for the first time since their wedding 4 years ago and he's going to stay there... ...in their flea-infested house.

But I don't know what I'm talking about, y'know, the girl who has 18 cats and 3 dogs whom are all flea-free. ARG. Pigheaded. And she has our dad's god-awful temper and if she gets set off (easily done with bipolarism) she will say the most NASTY, MEAN things but will never apologize for it... cause in her mind it's your fault, not hers. She is never guilty of any wrongdoing. BIL doesn't help because honestly he should have been a stalker she avoided.. completely obsessed with her and whipped puppy for her. If she was to say the sky was Fuscia Pink with lemon yellow clouds he'd agree with her without a second thought even though they are both clearly wrong.

Drives me nuts but that's my batty family. Oh well. I can chose my friends, not my family. :P And I honestly think I am probably the most sane one out of the bunch.

I'm so glad you joined! I knew you would qualify for assistance and it is worth every penny. Water aerobics is an awesome workout. Glad you tried it. I'm home from my hunny's house 2.5 hrs away and I visited his ymca but I'm excited to be home and back for tomorrow's water aerobics class and my favorite... adaptive yoga! Yay!

Hello all!

I'm new to this thread. I started the Couch-to-5K on August 5th. I have not missed a day when I was supposed to run (3x a week). On Thursday I also began adding some easy dumbbell weight training on my non-running days. So far, so good.

I'm not really sure if I've been taken over by aliens or something. I've never stuck to an exercise plan this religiously for this long! I am also doing a higher protein, lower fat diet (using some Herbalife shakes). I feel very invested in the whole thing. My major goal is at least 40 lbs gone by my 40th birthday in February.

Thanks for the reality check and encouragement, WolfShadow. I really appreciate it. I'm so jealous of your water aerobics! I wish there was a Y near me.
Yikes, sounds like your friend is going through quite a rough patch. I'll add her to my prayers. :)

Welcome, CelticHarpie!
Re: Aliens. I feel you on that. Sometimes when I've finished a workout or I'm babbling about exercise or whatever I have to take a step back because... whoa. That's me? Really?! Dang.

CelticHarpie- I started c25k about the same time you did! I'm still on week 2 though just because I'm taking it a bit slower than the suggested timeline. I hope you love it, so far I do! Although week 3 looks daunting. I want to do my first couch-to-5k color run in May 2013. I'm so excited!

Wolfshadow- I'm sooo jellie of your super happy scale moment! I hope to be 299 by next Sunday when I weigh in. At least that was the goal date I had set for that challenge at the beginning of August. You should look into adaptive yoga if they have it at your Y. It is my fave! It's gentle yoga adapted for all fitness levels and has modifications for issues such as your bum knee (or my lower back injury last year that I don't want to re-injure) I know what you mean about additional programs the Y offers that aren't in your budget right now, there's a class I wanna take that's 4 wks for $40 twice a week and I think I'm gonna save my pennies and treat myself to the session that begins in October. That could be my reward for meeting my sept goal.

Are any of you on myfitnesspal.com? If you are and you'd like to add me my user name is chubbygirl253 on there too. Just mention on there that you are from 3fc. That site is an amazing weightloss tool, although I come here for the advice and comraderie and support.

When I was away at my hunny's house I didn't get enough exercise but I've stayed within my calorie budget. Tomorrow I make up for it! Getting back to my routine feels good.

I ran the 8k race route today and didn't die! haha. In fact, I ran longer and made better time then I ever expected. Now I have a goal time in mind and can work to reach/surpass that!!

After the run, we took our daughter swimming and I did some stretching in the hot tub (felt soooo nice).

Tomorrow I will do some abs and squats in the evening.

Hey ladies! Grats to all of you seeing a loss and even to those who haven't in a bit, grats on staying on target! I am off for a bike ride tonight, hoping to do a little over 8 miles total, it should be a good time. It's supposed to be hot and humid though, so that might be gross. still going to do it though.

I saw 159 on the scale for the first time since, I think, middle school so I was super psyched about that. I want to be into the 150s solidly before I declare it a thing. Still, wicked cool.

Hello! I am new to the boards and would like to join this thread.

I have 4 children at home and work full-time so I don't often find too much time for myself for exercise. I do have a gym membership which I do use to work out on my lunch hour. It gives me 35 minutes at the gym doing cardio or weight training. It isn't as much as I would like but it is something.

I am good at staying consistent when I get into a good groove but sometimes things don't go my way. :( Appointments and missed time from work sometimes have me working through my lunch hour which means I miss out on exercise for the day.

Ultimately, I want to work out at home as well. I have a Wii Fit and the Wii Active game, work out DVD's, and the 30 Day Shred that I want to start so bad. However, I often find everything else to do at home rather than work out.

Hoping to find some support here!!

welcome mama jules! i always had the same problems trying to work out at home, everything else always seems to get in the way

it's been so much easier to have a gym membership...this summer when i was working a day schedule, i would get up early on purpose to go work out because then nothing could possibly come up to get in the way...during the school year i work a split shift schedule so i have time during the day to workout

i thought i posted somewhere on here that i did a 2-mile fundraiser walk on saturday and then had a rest day on sunday...cant remember if i posted that or just thought about posting it LOL

eating wasnt very much on track this weekend, too much food in general :( i dont think i went far overboard but it was worse than i'd like to do...back on track today

am aiming for running two miles at the gym this morning...i told myself it doesnt matter what length of intervals that i run, as long as i get the mileage in, but im aiming for four sets of half mile intervals

alaskanlaughter - Thank you. I wish that I could get to the gym before work. That is my favorite time to work out, first thing in the morning, but I have to take the kids to daycare so it doesn't work out. As soon as my 11 month old gets on a consistent wake schedule, I plan to start getting up early and getting in a work out before work. Then I can use my lunch hour strictly for weight training. Ahhh, that would be perfect.

@ChubbyGirl Heheh, thanks! I wasn't planning on doing it. The schedule was all wrong on my sheet.. It said Y-Noah was at 5:30 so I figured when a bunch of kids didn't show up I was golden to keep swimming... and then 6 PM rolled around and WATER AEROBICS. I still can't believe I got on that damned elliptical after! I was pouring sweat! It especially got bad after 'cool down'! I couldn't see out of my glasses, they were sopped! Sad thing is, my pool is closed till just after Labor Day for annual maintenance on it... So Sept 5th I can go back... though I'm getting ready to head over there now and get some elliptical in and hopefully one of the cool machines I saw.. something that's supposed to work your back!

Tomorrow's gonna be TONS of fun at the Y.. my sister is inspired by me, and wants to join a gym, so she's going with me tomorrow as a guest! I'll have a work out partner! ^_^ I really hope she decides to join my Y so she can go with me.

@CelticHarpie - Welcome! Yeah, I know what you mean... I can't believe I bought a swim cap! And exercise shorts!

@MamaJules - Welcome to you as well! I hope you enjoy the thread and I hope you find a way to balance kiddos and workouts! I don't have kids but I have 3 dogs and 18 cats so... I kinda know that juggle. But I also am not working right now so it's easier on me. My biggest worry is not keeping up with it when I find the new job.

@ThistleBerry - You're welcome! We all gotta keep positive and keep each other going. Don't let the bobbles get ya down. :)

Anyway, off to the Y! You ladies have a good evening!

welcome mamajules!

well I am tired because I really pushed myself in my workout today. I only have 6 days left till my weigh-in on Sunday 9/02 and I am 3 pounds from my goal. So this week is like LAST CHANCE WORKOUT (ON BIGGEST LOSER) for me. I really wanna make my goal.

So today I did 25 mins of strength training and 3 hours and 35 mins of cardio. I worked my tail off! Now I get to rest up before tomorrow's workout.
50 mins yoga
45 mins elliptical (3 miles/ over 3500 strides! on level 6)
45 mins water aerobics
5 mins stair stepper (a whole new level of **** on Earth for me!)
15 mins rowing machine
25 mins c-to-5k training wk 2 (intervals- 10 mins jogging/15 mins walking)
18 mins stationary bike (3 miles)
12 mins recumbant cross-trainer with arms (workload 8 out of 10)

I did it!:carrot:

Thank you. =)

I applaud you for doing the Elliptical. I HATE that machine. I have tried it on only 2 occasions and I couldn't hang for longer than 5 minutes. Not because it was tough, but because it was just so awkward for me. I am sure I need to give it a try more than twice to get used to it but I just feel so weird using it.

Thanks mamajules! Its funny what u said about the elliptical being so awkward, I was just like you! For a long time I couldn't get the hang of it because of its awkwardness. It felt like trudging through quicksand while wearing clown shoes make of steel. But I finally got it! And now I do 45 mins on it 5-6 days a week. Yet the first moment I step on it I usually end up going backwards for a few seconds until I get my act together. So keep trying.
Right now I can only do 5 mins on the stair stepper machine so that is currently what I'm trying to master. The first time I did it I thought, Oh what fresh **** is this!!! In less than 5 mins my whole body is screaming for mercy. :woops: But I will keep trying until someday, oh someday I can do 10 mins. LOL

So my back is still hurt. I hope this injury gets better fast. This is the 2nd day and its horrible. I still completed 3 hrs of low-impact cardio but everything is harder. You know your body is outta whack when 30 mins on the elliptical is easier than walking half a block even at a snails pace. I can't walk upright. I look like I'm a hundred years old because I'm hunched over and someone with a cane or walker could probably work circles around me. But I'm keeping up with my workouts. Thank God for my yoga teacher who helped me get some wonderful SAFE stretches without hurting myself further. Was able to do the whole practice. Even the warrior poses, using a chair. I only had to skip reverse warrior until my back is healed. Left there feeling sore but good.

Nite everyone!

the stairmaster is hard on my knees so i've never messed around with it much...i use the treadmill at its highest incline if i want to get that same effect

im insanely busy during the weekdays so i dont post much then...i read everyone's posts but dont often post myself or respond :)

ive been running two miles a day this week, only in much smaller intervals, which seems to be working nicely so far...once my distance is put in, i have been walking fast on a small incline until the rest of my minutes on the treadmill are done

yesterday i was a little sore so i took two regular Bayer with food and then worked out, nervous that i would have a reaction to it as i sometimes do...i have what's called exercise-induced hives, reactions to medications only while working out...there's a name for it, something fancy, but i've forgotten it...i didnt have a reaction yesterday

today i took one extra-strength Bayer with food and worked out....i had the reaction from H*LL!!! i knew i was a little itchy on the last half of the running but didnt realize how bad it was til i got home...my ENTIRE body was covered in huge itchy swollen welts! these are not tiny little bumps, these are bigger than a quarter! the only parts of my body that escaped this seemed to be the bottoms of my feet and my privates lol....i took alot of pics...my throat was also swollen which hasnt happened before...i took an antihistamine and waited 45 minutes for the reaction to subside before i could get dressed again...most of the swelling and welts have subsided now, an hour after my workout was done...my hands are still red, itchy and swollen but not insanely bad like earlier

I'm so sorry about the hives, Alaskanlaughter! That sounds so horrible; I feel for you so much right now. I hope by now it has subsided. I didn't even know that could happen.

Nothing very exercise-y interesting to report here. I'm having a lot of PMS induced self-loathing, irritation, and anxiety which all jumped to 11 when my check engine light came on today. I already knew I had to take my car in as my serpentine belt is cracked and I have a transmission leak but now it seems I've got some misfiring or something. I'll have more information tomorrow. What I do know right now is it is going to cost a lot more than I have. Anyway, the relevant part here is I put on my running shoes when I got home and I just ran out all the aggravation. No idea how long I was gone or how far I went. I feel so much better now. And, all to the good, I no longer feel like I want to dive head first into a vat of chocolate, you know, on the off chance a vat of chocolate happened to be laying around.

it subsided almost completely by the time i got to work about an hour and a half later...i still have red marks on me from all the welts and my face still has some itchy bumps but it is almost gone...its about 7 p.m. now and that's about where it's at right now

Ok, time to check in.

So Monday night I went to the Y as planned. I did 13:00 on the elliptical, and then I went over to try the back machine that, supposedly, works your butt and your lower back...

Oh.
My.
God.

I have a favorite Exercise Machine!

Oh ye gods, seriously! I'm using this thing and I've always got a stiff lower back (probably from keeping my huge oversized bust hanging) and I get on this thing... and I started using it, it has some weights for resistance... I started at 40 lbs.

Oh my goodness my back was popping all over the place as the joints were re-aligning and releasing tension and I swear the other people in there were probably thinking I was nuts cause I swear my tongue was hanging out like a dog in ecstasy! It just.. OMG. it felt amazing. I told my mom later "I think I just found a replacement for the AquaMassage machine!!!!"

Anyway, after that I did 400 Meters on the treadmill at a decent clip.

Didn't do anything Tuesday or Wednesday. Yesterday I biked about 2 and a half miles, down to the Gamestop, back up to Dollar Tree and K-Mart, got some stuff we needed, and headed home... and then, mowed the lawn..

Only to hit a momma bunny who was apparently delivering some food to her three babies... she had a huge gash in her rear from the mower and took off, leaving the babies....

so now I have three baby bunbuns in a tote and I have NO IDEA what to do with them. Gonna try taking them back to the nest later tonight and wait and see if Momma comes back... if not I'm gonna have to raise them, I guess. Lovely. As if I don't have enough animals to freakin' handle.

Anyway, I'll talk to you ladies later.

Mortonpixie, i have read that before and I love it so much! It's just such a warm, loving sentiment. Whenever I see an overweight lady working out in public (usually running) it makes me feel so happy and I cheer for her in my head. (Actually, if I'm in my car sometimes I really do cheer.) It makes me wonder if when I started if someone somewhere saw me and for a brief moment was really pulling for me and believed in me and felt that same hope and joy.

My car is finished and will cost $685. I'm so relieved. I thought for sure it would be at least twice that. I have the majority of that in savings. Actually it was the money I was saving to completely pay the car off. It makes me a little sad that I won't get to pay it off this month as I had planned but this is okay too. Could have been much worse.

Back to my NROLFW workouts tomorrow! I'm very much looking forward to it. I cancelled my class memberships for this month, so no Flow or Zumba for me, just so I can focus on my lifting. :lifter:

Hello all! Check-in time for me!

So I weighed myself and I'm down again! 298.4! So I lost a pound, pound and a half over this week!

Tomorrow my mom is having a cook out so I know I'll be cheating a bit for that, so I expect the bobble. Good news is is that the Y's pool reopens the day after labor day, so swimming is back!! I'll be swimming again to keep from gaining too much weight tomorrow.

Talk to you all later and have a safe and happy Labor Day if you're in the states! Can't believe Summer is over!

This weekend has been hard! I was supposed to go to the KC Irish Festival yesterday, but that fell through, so I was at home all day. When that happens, I tend to cheat. I was actually pretty good. Decided I wanted to actually eat food for lunch instead of a protein shake, but logged everything and stayed in my calorie targets for the day.

This morning's run (last day of Week 4 for C25K) was hard. I woke up late and dallied around the house before going. Paid for that. It was hot and sunny and it made the run that much harder to complete. But I DID finish it.

Stepped on the scale and I was down 1.8 lbs from last weigh in (Wednesday). The scale hadn't been moving at all this week, and finally, boom.

Going to the Iris Fest today, so I will load up on my shake before I go to keep me away from fish and chips, Guinness, shepherd's pie, and more Guinness. Did I mention there will be Guinness?

I will abstain. I will just listen to music and buy a couple of cute crafty things.

I have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing this to make my 40's start off healthier than my 30's and to make sure I love the photos that are taken of me on my birthday trip to Ireland. Oh, and feel confident and cute enough to catch the eye of a cute Irish guy or two while I'm there ;)

my shoes need to be replaced desperately though...i'm getting foot pain and mild shinsplit-type pain during/after running...it's on my list to do today or tomorrow, to get a new pair of shoes...you can see where the cushioning has completely worn down and the insides are all torn up

Oh my gosh yes, PLEASE replace your shoes ASAP!!! Actually I've been told that you need to replace your shoes every 400 miles logged, which actually means that your shoes don't LOOK bad but are not giving you the support you need.

I fell off the diet/exercise wagon for 6 weeks and have been working my way up to more vigorous exercise. Am happy to say that I'm back at a reasonable fitness level. Yesterday I did a weight-lifting class (Body Pump) and Zumba, and today I did Zumba. So much fun!!!

today is going swell. I've had healthy food choices and I did 40 mins on the elliptical before going to Piyo which was super tough. So glad my back isn't hurting so bad anymore and I can do more. Going for a short hike in a little while. Hoping my back will feel good enough to get back to my c25k tomorrow. Might help make up for the fact that my water aerobics and yoga classes are canceled for labor day. Bummer. Take care y'all.

Yesterday's NROLFW workout went quite well, all things considered. Things got a bit dicey right at the beginning with my squats. I work out from home and don't have access to a squat cage or anything so I usually just lift the barbell from the floor and over my head into position. The first set was fine. On the second I couldn't get the barbell back over my head when I was done! My arms were just not having it. I knew my options were limited. I was either going to have to figure out how to get it off myself or wait until someone happened to wander into the basement. As the former seemed impossible and the latter unlikely a part of me was just like, "Well, now you have to live this way. Congratulations."
Had to resort to a crab-like backbend to drop it on the couch. But, hey! I learn! Won't be doing that again. I bought a set of squat stands online. As a bonus, the manufacturers even suggest using the stands and the barbell for pull-ups/chin-ups so that solves that problem for me too. Waaaay too much money for me to be spending, especially in light of my car repairs and the ballet tickets I purchased for my best friend's birthday (it's our tradition!), but I think it will be well worth it in the long run.

Today I decided to go for a jog. I've been going around my usual 5k course backwards for the last few weeks so I switched back to normal. I was really surprised with how much longer I was able to keep up the jogging sections! I kept the same landmarks to begin running but kept whizzing past where I usually slow down and walk. My real goal, however, was to focus on my form. I tend to hunch my shoulders and that's no good so I'm trying to be more mindful of it and correct it as soon as I notice. Anyway, the run didn't do as much to loosen my quads and glutes from the lifting as I had hoped but it was a good run!

So much fun!!!

how interesting to read that! because when i add up the miles ran and walked since i bought them in february, it totals almost exactly 400!! not counting the afternoons i've worn my shoes and been on my feet all day at work...i DID buy a new pair this afternoon and will try them out tomorrow

Check in time for me!

So Sunday we had a cookout for Labor Day and I cheated on the diet and had stuff I normally can not. I had a chocolate & hazelnut bar, a plum, a necturine, and part of a peach. Didn't like the peach, so Baby, our pet squirrel, took it for me. Had an ACTUAL HAMBURGER with the bun! Figured for SURE I would gain a pound or two...

Today the pool at the Y was open again for the first day today! Did some laps after PowerPoint class and caught Water Arobics again. Then I did some kicking and more breath holding, trying to up my lung capacity. Made it to 35 seconds!

Weighed myself on the scale at the Y when I was about to hit the showers...

296.4!!!! I've gone down another 2 pounds!!!

So it seems that not exercising constantly seems to work for me. (Or, rather, not overdoing it.) I haven't really walked the dogs in a few weeks now (mostly because my black lab / pit mix always tries to cause trouble and pull and drag the others, while the other two struggle to keep up with me, let alone him, plus, they were really getting restless late at night and I'm on a daytime schedule now... But mostly because Axl isn't letting our walks be enjoyable anymore because of his refusal to listen to the word HEEL!)

I figure when I plateau I'll up the activity level again.. But shedding anywhere from 1-3 pounds a week is nice so, I'm going to keep going the way we are! The water arobics teacher's jaw dropped when I told her I was 345 in February and now I'm 296!

Anyway, you ladies have a lovely evening / morning and talk to you all later!

Alright, check in time.

Sis and I had a fight, as usual... She's getting stressed out cause her dad-in-law is arriving tomorrow night from El Salvador and her bi-polarism is causing her to take it out on me.

After much venting and frustration at my mom's I went to the Y and got there around 8:45. Only managed to get an hour of swimming in but I sure felt better afterwards.. Which is just, so odd.

Normally when upset I could dive into sweets or food in general to console myself.... Now I swim. Hey, fine with me!!

On another side note: I love flippers now. I need to buy a pair, stat. K-Mart has them on clearance... pretty sure I'll be picking a pair up for myself. I was able to get down to the bottom of the pool with them several times... But my god, the pressure! I didn't think at 10 measly feet the pressure would be so uncomfortable!! Oh well. It wasn't god-awful painful but it did sting a bit to get down that far. Makes me think my head is built out of eggshell instead of bone.... lol

Anyway: ChubbyGirl! Congrats and welcome to 'Twoderland'!!!

I think I may need to invest in a new pair of sneakers like AlaskanLaughter... I don't think mine are supporting me much anymore either.

Welp, check in tomorrow. :) You ladies have a nice evening/day!

Wolfshadow, I get the same random bursts of weight loss! The fact that you ate a burger for the first time in a while was probably also a shock to your metabolism so your body burned more than it normally would. Variation is KEY in preventing those annoying plateaus..I've gotten frustrated in the past and learned the hard way :/

Well..today I binged. Promised myself I'd only have watermelon for dinner and had that plus half a box of cereal, two handfuls of craisins AND a yogurt..I've drank like 4 cups of ice water and am forcing myself to stay up late so I can digest and do some ab workout. Tomorrow I'll run for 42 minutes instead of my normal 40. sighhhh :(

ive still been running this week...ive been doing 2.1 miles of running and some additional fast walking...my new shoes are good, still kinda breaking them in...i often wonder if, at night, my old running shoes told my new running shoes what they're in for when they all sit in the dark at the end of my bed :)

scale should be reading the highest it's gonna read for the month because it's the week before TOM....normally that's the highest weight i see, then the lowest comes directly at the end of TOM, then it starts a slow climb again....however i think i must have lost a little weight because what SHOULD be the highest reading is saying 189.4 which is the lowest i've ever seen on the scale...so i wonder if, after TOM, it will drop even lower than that

also weirdly, my feet feel bonier now...is that a word? ...like on the tops of my feet, they used to be smooth and now there are tendons(?) n stuff causing the tops of my feet to feel bumpier? bonier? something like that....did i lose fat on the tops of my feet? i have no idea...

Yes you did! My feet, you can't see a bone or a tendon at all because there's a ton of fat piled on top of it. Congrats!!! I look forward to when I look in the mirror and notice a bone for the first time instead of a good layer of flubber!

@AlaskanLaughter - I'd google 'black spots in vision after workout' and see what I get, or something similar. If it sounds like something serious could be going on, I'd make a point to check with the doctor.

YAY ChubbyGirl!!! We're practically gonna be weight loss twins here! XD We both started around the same mark and we're gonna be neck-and-neck the whole way through, I can tell!

@seeingfree - Yeah I know... I binged today too and I'm just gonna have to work extra hard to keep any extra pounds from popping on...

Ok, so time for my check in..

So yesterday, I was really irritated because I had made the mistake of going to my sister's house yesterday when she was having a vicious mood swing about a movie she was making for YouTube and someone beat her to it... Turned into a bipolar spat. Didn't get to the YMCA until nearly 9 PM, and only got an hour's worth of swimming in. Helped with some of the aggravation but I wanted more. Swore to myself I would do better today.

I ate WAY too many calories today even though I stayed on Atkins the whole way. For breakfast I had two uncooked hotdogs (they were 'precooked', no worries there) before I left for some work-related workshops and then had a 2-hour wait window for PowerPoint class. Then I went to Denny's and had soda, a ceasar salad and a small bowl of coleslaw. Ok, good deal. On track. After class I was getting hungry again, so I ran to Aldi's and got some mushrooms, some jerkybeef sticks (a grand total of a mere 7 carbs for all of it) and once I was done eating my snacks in the car, I started the trek to the Y to get in some swimming and, hopefully to find the punching bag free and clobber some sand into oblivion... As I had basically told a friend whom has voiced interest in liking me beyond just friends, but when things get into serious areas they clam up and ignore me, and then gets jealous when I start dating someone. Happens every time, so I finally told said friend what they're doing to me is pretty craptacular and I was sick of the back-and-forth, and once they find out what they want (or if I was merely experimental for them, which I think was the case), that they can go away. Frustrated, broken-hearted, and just plain in a lousy mood... Was SO looking forward to that punching bag, my favorite machine in the gym, the back / butt worker, and the pool...

Then my sister called and needed big sis Wolfie to run back to our mom's house and awaken her husband, whom is being a stubborn git, was working as dairy stock supervisor at Wal-Mart and then got hired on for another company willing to pay him 12.50+, but he doesn't wanna quit WallyWorld either, so he's been up for the past 48 hours straight working his rear off for both jobs. Then my sis wanted to cheat on her diet and I decided to come along but did not cheat and stayed low-carb at the local chinese buffet (crab, seafood melody, mongolian BBQ with all OK choices....)

We drive around to Target so she could get something and then Tops for cupcakes.. THEN I finally got to the Y! Got a whole measly 40 minutes in in the pool... Oh god. Never again. Never swim on a full stomach again... I couldn't do hardly anything. My breath capacity was chopped in half... oye. and then we had to go to our local airport, because my BIL's dad is visiting from El Salvador and we had to pick him up.

Tomorrow, I swear, I will be finding this punching bag of lore and legend and pounding the crud out of it. ...and I'll be using my back machine and then swimming... Water Aerobics is tomorrow and I don't wanna miss it.

Anyway, here's hoping to a better day tomorrow. You ladies have a good evening!

Thanks for the encouragement. I will try to get back on it and be patient with myself.
Hope your back is feeling better.

im finding that i really miss going for a run at the gym when i dont go...like on the weekends when i'm busy and call it "rest days"...so much in fact that i got up this morning and went to the gym even though i hadnt planned on it...i just wanted to...i ran a mile and a half

my shoes need to be replaced desperately though...i'm getting foot pain and mild shinsplit-type pain during/after running...it's on my list to do today or tomorrow, to get a new pair of shoes...you can see where the cushioning has completely worn down and the insides are all torn up
Have you always been a runner? Meaning, first day, did you hop on the treadmill and run a mile?

I HATE running. HATE it. But I want to run. On my lunch hour, I have 35 minutes at the gym and on cardio days, I do the treadmill for 35 minutes. I started doing 4 minute interval walking, running the last minute of a 5 minute set. Then a few weeks later, I did 3.5 minute interval walking, running the last 1.5 minute of the 5 minute set. This week, I pushed myself to 3 minute walk, 2 minute run. I am surprised with myself with even being able to run for an entire minute. I have no idea how long it will take me to be able to run the entire 35 minutes but I hope that day does come.

I got my squat stands yesterday! I even managed to put them together by myself. (And only broke one nail*. And the fact that I cared made me laugh because, seriously, to go from "Yay, new toy to pump MOAR IRON!" to "Oh, I broke a nail!" in the space of two seconds was a funny juxtaposition to me.) They are a little more wobbly than I had hoped but I think switching out some of the hardware should fix that.

I feel like my updates here are so boring. I'm always just, "Yep, another NROLFW workout!". Now that I have the stands I'm really curious to see how much I can squat. I'll find out tonight!

In somewhat related news, I had a dream last night that I was on the uneven bars. I was in gymanastics for several years as a kid and even though I was never very good I still loved it. Anyway, in the dream I finally managed to do a kip! It's a pretty basic skill but I never could manage one in real life. So now I have added it to my list of physical things I am determined to learn (or re-learn, as is the case for some of the other items on said list).

*Don't worry, nail triage performed immediately. Debating applying Orly's Cashmere Cardigan or Misa's The Great Green Whatsit tonight.

i started by running minute intervals, run one minute, walk one minute...then run 2 and walk 1 and i got up to where i could run 4 and walk 1....i have to carefully manage my asthma which is why i continue to do intervals even now...i've pushed myself and i know that i can run 2 miles without stopping to walk but my lungs DO NOT like that no matter what meds i use to control it...

then i started to track distance instead of minutes and right now i'm running 2.1 miles total of 0.2 mile intervals and it is GREAT on not aggravating my asthma...i also walk after i'm done with the intervals at a fast speed, usually at an incline, until my time on the treadmill is done

How did the squats go?

I am going to the gym today after a 2 day hiatus and going out to dinner last night. It was Japanese food (mostly sushi) so hopefully it wasn't that fattening but still... hard to know calories. I actually skipped lunch b/c I was so busy (I hate doing that) so hopefully it kind of evens out. We'll see when I step on the scale today.

things are going well so far. I've had my 2 yr old nephew since thursday morning and we are both getting used to the new routine. He's getting acclimated to playing at the Y and I'm learning how to get the most of my workout since I can only expect him to hang in there for half as long as I'd like to work out. Mama has been around a lot in the evenings and this weekend so that helps. It's been an adjustment for me to have a little guy to contend with and he is realizing when he's with Auntie Lolo he gets more activities (ymca and park) which he likes but less cartoons and candy/junkfood which he also loves. So its a balance but so far so good.
Thurs 50 mins exercise
Fri 80 mins exercise
Sat 90 mins exercise

down to 173... things are moving in the right direction. Thank goodness b/c I've gone out to eat twice this weekend. I think I was retaining a lot of water from weight-lifting I haven't done it since Wednesday, so that's gone down. I'm going to lift weights tomorrow, so I need to make sure I keep my eating reasonable so that if I have up to a 4 lb weight gain again this week I'll know it is the water retention from the weights. I tend to fill up like a water balloon, and never have been able to drink enough water to mitigate that even when I try!

I still haven't gotten to my squats! :( When I posted I forgot that I was scheduled to do my B workout and not the A (which includes squats). That night I didn't get a workout in at all as life got in the way and I had to help a friend through a personal crisis instead. Couldn't work out yesterday because of family commitments. Finally got back at it today! It was good.

I went to a nearby park afterwards to play on the monkey bars. I fooled around doing monkey bar rows, hanging sit ups, and just swinging around. Turns out I can only go from one bar to the next 3 times in a row. I was wearing gloves, but man does it shred your hands! Anyway, it was a fun little break from the norm. I think I might do it more often. I've looked up monkey bar workouts so I have more fun ideas of things to do. Maybe someday I'll actually be able to pull myself on top of the dang thing. Dream big!

Glad things are going well, Faunaflora. How long have you been lifting? I found the first month or so I held on to a lot more water weight after workouts than I do now. I think my body knows what to expect now or something and doesn't freak out as much as it did. I know that bodypump isn't exactly the same as lifting heavy (because of the much higher number of reps) but it could be a similar circumstance. Alternatively, have you tried tracking your weight according to your own cycle rather than by the calendar? I started doing that and found that a lot of the time when I thought I was retaining water from a workout or a lot of sodium or excess carbs or what-have-you , it was really just my body's normal fluctuations. I have graphed my last four cycles and it is uncanny how similar they are. I can now predict each day. I knew I was going to be down somewhere from half a pound to one pound on Saturday because every Saturday of week two of my cycle I am. I knew I was going to be up by about two pounds this morning. I know that tomorrow I'll be down by about a half. In the last 15 days I've only been off by more than half a pound in my predictions two days. Now maybe this is old news to people who always got their periods regularly, but it's completely new to me. I have PCOS and have always had extremely irregular periods. Before I switched my hormone therapy (read: birth control pills) I would bleed two or three weeks out of four. I am just so giddy to finally have figured this out! (Hence the rambling and tmi, for which I apologize.)

Chubbygirl, it sounds like you are a truly fabulous aunt. It's wonderful that you've been able to balance your needs with your nephew's. And it sounds like you've been a great role model for him. I don't know your situation; how long will he be with you?

Thanks for the in depth discussion, I appreciate it!

Maybe I will start tracking, that's a good idea. I'm bad at tracking stuff but if I start feeling frustrated about weight loss I may find the frustration worse than the work it takes to track! :)

I had been lifting for 4 months, then took a two month hiatus and fell off the wagon and gained 10 lbs back of 30 I had lost. I started lifting again last month, and only last week did I start approaching what I used to lift. So maybe it's that my body hasn't readjusted to lifting heavier in Pump and is freaking out.

When you do your squats, report back!

Thanks, I really do try to be a good aunt. Especially right now when he doesn't have his parents and he misses them. I've had him since 9/6 from 7:30am till midnight every day and will continue to have him thru 9/24. He sees mommy and daddy for only about a half hr each morning. I know it's hard on him. Bedtime especially. But hes a happy kid and doing well. I know I do things differently than they do but he is adjusting well.

i ran today...same amount etc...nothing new to report...very cloudy and turned rainy and windy and cold and my knee is acting UP(!)....very achy...i dont think it's the running, i think it's TOM approaching as well as the weather turning colder

not much to report here either. I weighed today but no change. My arms are a little sore from my strength training. I only got to do a little over an hour of cardio but calorie intake was good today.

Skipped the gym Monday and Tuesday b/c I was so busy with work.

Tonight I did Body Pump and Zumba, feeling great! I scaled back on weights a little b/c I skipped two days of exercise and I think I could have done a teeny bit more. I really want to try to get to the gym on Friday so that I can do Body Pump again.

Sitting at 173 still, but retaining like 1/2 a pound of water, so not too bad. I need to remember to weigh myself less often while I'm having the H2O fluctuations.

Do you suppose bruising causes water retention? I was hooping yesterday for almost an hour trying to get better at hip hooping and moving the hoop from my waist to hips. I'm bruised all along my pelvic/hip bones. Glad I didn't use a weighted hoop! Yikes!

I finally got to do my squats on Tuesday. I was able to up the weight by 15 lbs! I was very happy about that. Terrible DOMS yesterday and today though, which I'm less thrilled about.

i have TOM this week and it's also been raining like crazy, also thunderstorms...and cold, very very wet and chilly and cold :( ugh i hate being cold...ive still been running though

also been variously ravenous with TOM and then not hungry...the day before yesterday, i ate A LOT (!!) of food and yesterday was barely hungry at all...today im starving this morning so i ate more than usual...i try to really listen to my hunger signals and what my body's telling me vs. just a craving...granted, sometimes i'll cave to a craving anyhow...but if i'm genuinely hungry then i will eat

im done with my morning work...now i get to rest, take son to high school, go to the gym and work til 6 p.m....directly after 6 i have two different meetings to be at tonight...no idea when i'll be home

and also, with the bruising question, i would think that yes you could retain water if there are alot of big serious bruises, your body would treat it like any other injury and retain water

Sorry TOM is giving you such a hassle appetite-wise, Alaskanlaugher, though it sounds like you're managing to keep your calories pretty balanced anyway. Natural calorie cycling. Good for you!

Yesterday was one of those days when I didn't particularly feel like lifting but was all about the post-workout smoothie so did anyway. (Well, that and I have a goal to get a certain number in this month and if I skip that'll be near impossible.) Even still, managed to up my Bulgarian Split Squat and Cuban Snatch weights last night by 2.5 lbs each. The only unfortunate thing was that I pinched a finger when I was reracking my plates. That resulted in a lot of hopping around and incoherent muttering.

I'd really like to hoop again tonight but I'm not really keen on putting bruises on top of bruises so I think I'm going to do some yoga instead.

I signed up for a 5k with my sister and her sister-in-law and mother-in-law! I've never done one. Pretty excited about it. It's on September 22nd.

i finished my week again of running....2.1 miles every workday M-F with additional walking each day...total week of running is 10.5 miles with total distance including walking of 16.25 miles...and after each morning of running, i then go to work where i'm on my feet all afternoon 1-6 p.m. or thereabouts

after work was done at 6 p.m. today i stayed with my younger son at the school's fundraiser carnival event...got home around 7:30 and literally SAT DOWN for almost an hour...my feet hurt SO BAD and i know i have good shoes, it's just the combination of working out and THEN being on my feet the rest of the day lol

it was one of those low-calorie days again, after eating more yesterday...i wasnt hungry all day and am sitting at only 820 calories at almost 9 p.m....i am making something to eat though and probably going to bed soon...i am exhausted

i bought an actual running shirt this weekend!! ive been wearing an old tee-shirt for nearly a year now and, to be honest, no amount of washing is going to get that thing clean now :( i mean, soaked in sweat 5 days a week for nearly a year...yeah, not good...poor shirt lol....so i got an ACTUAL top built for workouts, the tight clingy kind with the straps crossed in the back to keep it secure...whatever that's called

and i ran longer total distance today! i put in total running distance of 2.25 miles and walked a little farther than that, still in 45 minutes total on the treadmill...and so far i'm not sore from it lol

Thistleberry
09-18-2012, 02:37 PM
That's a great treat for yourself, Alaskanlaughter. I own one of those shirts too because my mom found it on sale for an extremely good price and couldn't pass it. I'm glad she did. I like it. :)

Finally got to go back to the park after my lifting again yesterday. I couldn't for the last week or so because a festival was being held there. I really enjoy doing hanging sit ups. They make me feel kind of badass while I'm doing them, like I'm some super fit chick in some training montage in a movie. In reality I'm a pudgy, somewhat uncoordinated chick whose foot got stuck trying to get down from the first set, but a girl can dream.
Managed to swing 4 rungs this time, which is still lame but is 1 more than last time! Slight progress is still progress.

alaskanlaughter
09-18-2012, 05:42 PM
thats so cool to be able to work out at the park like that :)

i ran again this morning....did 2.25 miles again which is the longest distance ive ever done...the run was harder than yesterday though, which i attribute to not having my protein shake beforehand...im also very stuffy in my nose and sneezing alot...little son is a bit sick so i probably have a touch of that...i havent gotten a serious cold/flu since i started running last year though :) although i still had bouts of bronchitis and ear infections

i didnt DARE take anything for my nose though before running due to those horrible reactions that i get...i still havent taken anything but i always carry allergy tabs in my bag just in case i need it

i saw a new low on the scale today - 187.8!! my lowest weights for the month are always directly after TOM so i really expect it to climb a little pretty soon and hold there for the month

Thistleberry
09-19-2012, 12:59 PM
Congrats on the distance and the new low weight! I've found my low weight occurs right after TOM too and it's always so very nice to see.
Oh goodness, yes, let's keep those bad reactions to a minimum! I hope your sniffles don't turn into a full blown cold.

Yeah, a part of me worries about doing these things at the park because it's so public Do people see me and think I'm an absolute nut? A grown woman monkeying around on a children's playground, intermittently dancing, and wrapping it all up with stretching? But a part of me is adament that it doesn't matter. I'm just doing my thing and it's fun.
Haven't decided if I'm going again tonight as I have to stay at work later than usual. We'll see.

09-19-2012, 03:55 PM
well, there will be no workout for me today :( im so bummed but i feel absolutely crappy...and there are VERY few days when i feel crappy enough to stay away from the gym

my face hurts like crazy and my ears are getting fluid buildup...i already went to my doctor who gave me antibiotics so it should stop things in their tracks soon...i've learned the hard way not to let ear infections go and hope they clear up...that's what led to a series of massive ear infections last winter that ended with multiple injections of antibiotics typically used to treat meningitis! eek!

so i'm going to rest for a few hours and then head to work...yes, sadly i have to work, there is no one to cover for me with my students :(

That's too bad, AlaskanLaughter. I'm sorry you're feeling so unwell. :( It's a pity you still have to work, but do try your best to rest as much as you can and take care of yourself. That's the important thing. Here's hoping you have a speedy recovery.

my workouts are going good. As of today I have done 99 miles (various methods) in Sept. The goal was first set at 60 miles but then I raised it to 100. Since I'm only a mile away from goal I'm going to raise it to 120. So I can stay challenged. Ok, I have a toddler who will be getting up any minute so take care.

what is this supposed to feel like? just wondering if i get that too...and i suppose its a good thing? i have no idea...fill me in :)

From Livestrong: "The American Council on Exercise defines lactic acid production as a physical state following the first few minutes of vigorous exercise, where blood fails to transport enough oxygen into working muscles to meet activity demands. In this anaerobic state, you may feel winded and your muscles will more than likely ache or burn."

You are a runner so you've probably built up more tolerance than me... when I feel that ache/burn I definitely feel like stopping. I haven't gotten into running as much as other activities.

So my TOM is approaching, indicated by my appetite, feeling like crying, and bloating... but I'm at 173 so only 1 lb up. I'm hoping that after my period I drop a couple of pounds, that would be so nice. I'm trying not to give into the hungry monster that takes over during this lovely time.

Sorry for the delay in checking in. Things have been hectic hectic hectic for me!

Last week and a half, my sister's FIL was visiting from El Salvador.. very sweet man and also very loaded with money. I swear, he treated us to dinner every day. I managed to gain 5 pounds and, at the worst of it, was at 301 again. (And that was with TRYING to stay on diet as much as possible!) I mean, the first night he was here, he insisted on Denny's... and I had already eaten way above my carb and calorie count that day... So I ordered a diet soda and a small bowl of coleslaw. Mr. Santamaria takes one look at this measly portion and says "Diet?" "Si. Diet."

He scowls at me and goes "Grmmmm...." O_O THIS MAN IS A FRIGGIN' SURGEON, OK?! (And I guess really famous, he has some award where if, God forbid, if the Pope falls ill anywhere in Latin America he has to be the one to work on him..) You'd think he would understand that being 300+ pounds isn't a GOOD THING!!! o_o

My poor little sister though, who had him in her house and didn't have the excuse of 'going to class!' or 'going to the Y!' to get out of it, gained 30 pounds, going up from 130 to 160. She was NOT happy.

But, I got back on the bandwagon today, hit the Y and got there in time for half of water aerobics (I've been having some kind of problem with accelerating with my car and it takes me ALOT longer to get from point A to point B than I'd like... She's eating gas now too... and the fact that gas is 4.05 a gallon here ISN'T HELPING!) and then got the flippers on and swam laps for another few hours. (Water aerobics ended at 6:30. I finally got out of the pool at 9.)

My bike's seat is loose and needs to be tightened.. but with how high gas is and how crappy my car is acting, I think, until Snow flies, the bike is going to become my #1 source of transportation around town.. (as much as that bugs my mom..)

I've also gotten back down to (just slightly) lower than pre-Mr. Santamaria's 11 day visit... 296.0! (Though, the Y's scale says 294..... Which is odd... just last week it was exact with my mom's scale...)

Anyway.. Back on track and still losing. Signed up for swimming lessons! :3 We'll see how soon I can get in. :3

You folks have a great night!

09-22-2012, 11:50 AM
if your car is eating gas and having difficulty accelerating....check your spark plugs and all the hoses that connect under the hood....i had similar problems along with a crappy idle system and it turned out to need new spark plugs and there was a cracked air intake hose under the hood that was an easy fix (well, easy if you can connect the hose)...i was lucky that my BIL is a diesel mechanic and he changed my spark plugs for me and DH fixed the hose

i am up WAY WAY too early for a saturday morning....woke up at 5:45 a.m. and could not fall back asleep, felt perfectly rested...i think my body automatically hit the middle between summer up at 5:30 and winter up at 6:30 lol....im going downtown for a chaotic, crowded health fair anyhow this morning, need to be there early anyhow, and am going to try to get blood drawn and tested for TSH thyroid...never had that done before

I participated in my first official 5k yesterday. It's the Glo Run for the Ronald McDonald house. We got all decked out with all kinds of necklaces and bracelets from the dollar store; I even made myself a really fun chainlink belt with the bracelets. I also wore a set of fairy wings for no particular reason except that it was fun. And it WAS fun. We had such a good time! AND I ran the entire 5k!! I've never done that before and really had no idea I was capable. So elated!! :D :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Unfortunately, I have a very sore and swollen throat today and I'm ridiculously tired. I was supposed to lift today but that just doesn't seem like a good idea. I'm a little bummed because it was to be my last workout before my week long lifting hiatus, but it is what it is.

alaskanlaughter

way to go on the 5K!!

i ran both days this weekend to make up for missing two days this week being sick....yesterday i got a medium-size blister while running on the pad(?) of my big toe...today i patched it up and ran again...i was shocked to see that it then turned into a HUGE blister covering nearly the entire pad of my toe :( i was sooo bummed and i dont know what would have been bothering my foot....same workout, same socks, same shoes, same everything...so i treated the blister and bandaged it up and will have to find a better way to patch it up in order to run tomorrow :( i typically use moleskin for a bad blister, put a bandaid over the blister, then the moleskin, then another bandaid to keep it in place and i'm usually good to go

i'm still trying to have a "rest day" despite running today...i'm mostly sitting at home, doing laundry and not much else :) it's pouring rain outside too

alaskanlaughter
09-24-2012, 05:14 PM
i patched myself up to run today...bandaid, then moleskin, then athletic tape over the whole toe...it still bothered me to run but more of an annoyance versus a lot of pain

i put in the total 2.25 miles ran with a total distance 3.30 miles which is my typical run these days...going to work now

and today i celebrate 10 YEARS together with my man :)

Welp, went to the Y today, was a little late because I had someone showing up to see a kitty and I get to tell him he's approved tomorrow and drop the kitty off at her new house!! YAYYYY one more down!

So I weighed myself at the Y and I'm a bit unsure which scale I should be listening to at this point... The Y's scale (one of those doctor ones) says I'm 290 (OMGGGG!!) and my mom's digital said I'm 294. I'm still going based on my mom's scale until I weigh in at the Y sunday as part of the 10 week - 10 pounds challenge. (I was 297 on weigh-in day!)

Food intake was good today, had a few more sodas than normal (especially this time of year I tend to do more coffee than anything else) and swam my heart out for a few hours. Another couple pounds lost..

My poor sis still has 10 pounds to go before she's back to pre-Mr. Santamaria's visit weight... And I'm back to losing.

My size 24 jeans (THAT MY MOM JUST BOUGHT FOR ME LESS THAN A MONTH AGO) are starting to become loose. o_o I do NOT believe it. Thankfully I have size 22 (wayyyy back when I was on atkins before, I lost a lot and got down to a 22/20..) saved in a tote for this very day, when I could fit those clothes again.

I'm just gonna invest in belts.... lotta belts.

Anyway, kinda excited. My car's having issues and being on unemployment means not having the moola needed to fix her right now. (Check engine is on and flashes, hates going up hills, chugs and shudders when accelerating..... pretty sure it's either gas injection or transmission... choice A I can probably borrow $ from my mom and get her fixed, choice B, I drive her into the ground and don't look back.) Soooo, instead, I will be tuning up my bike (1993 Huffy Echo Canyon) and using that as my main mode of transportation around town. Thankfully Syracuse is a pretty bike-friendly city.

Anyway, you ladies have a nice night and I'll check in in a few more days! ^_^

i am finishing up the month of september with my goal of running at least two miles every workday for the month...i actually started doing 2.0 miles the last week of august...then i did 2.1 miles for a week and a half, then 2.25 for a week and a half, now i'm doing 2.30 for this last week...i like knowing that my GOAL is 2.0 miles but that i'm pushing past that a little bit each time

i ran this weekend, which i usually dont, because i missed two days last week due to an ear infection and sinus infection...so i made up those days last weekend...and i still have 5 days to run during this week...so i'm running a total of 8 days straight (last friday through this friday) which is more than i normally go without a rest day...we'll see how that goes

tomorrow and friday i need to be up at the crack of dawn (or "pitch black" as we call that in alaska lol) to get a run in before work....i work at 7 a.m. both days, probably working straight through til 6 p.m. as needed

i got up at 4:30 a.m. for my run at the gym...then i went to work at 7 a.m....luckily i was able to actually take my split shift time off and came home and rested for a few hours...worked all afternoon, then went to the local high school football game because they honored all the seniors and my intern that works for me was honored and wanted me to go see it...

i am DROP DEAD exhausted :( its 9 p.m....my feet are soooo sore and tired...tomorrow i get my protein smoothie from the gym as my reward for september...dont know what my october goal will be yet :)

Congratulations on hitting your goal, Alaskanlaughter! Woot! :cheer:
I hope you got yourself a good rest and are feeling better than ever. :)

I started stage 5 of NROLFW yesterday. The dreaded bodyweight matrix is back! Dun dun DUN! Happily, single leg romanian deadlifts are back too. I love them just as much now as I did the first time.

For this cycle I've set myself a goal of at least 20 minutes of cardio/dedicated movement every day. Usually I do cardio (45 minutes to an hour) 2 days a week and lift 3 times a week (hour to an hour and a half), but I think I'd like to commit myself a bit more. I'll keep all that the same but add bare minimum 20 minutes of cardio to the otherwise non-cardio days. To that end, I walked/jogged 3.5 miles on Saturday (jogged about 3/4). After lifting I took my bike out for a quick 20 minute spin yesterday. Today my thighs are crying out in pain so I went for a 30 minute walk. They felt a lot looser when I got back home but now, about an hour later, they're back to hurty hurt mchurtersville.
Three days down! :)

my sept goals results were great and I have high expectations for Oct.
Sept stats:
lost 7 lbs. goal was 13. But I did lose over 14 inches in various body parts in just one month!
did 67 hours of cardio. goal was 60.
did 191.5 miles. goal was 120.
burned 52,009 calories. goal was 50,000.

Today was a good way to start off Oct. Did 5 hours of cardio, 19.5 miles, and burned 4018 calories. I can totally do this!

and a NSV: a friend came over to shop in my closet for a dress to wear to a wedding this weekend. I have some beautiful dresses that my big booty outgrew a few years ago. After my friend left with what she needed I tried on a couple. I fit into one of my faves, a size 20 retro party dress with a crinoline under the skirt. I think I had given up hope of ever wearing it again! I wanted to do a cartwheel!

am playing around with HIIT this week on the treadmill...right now doing one minute walk 3.4 speed, 30-second run at 6.5, 30-second run at 7.3 speed, then back to one minute walk....i have to work up to a full-out run because it's hard to go from a walk to a dead run like that...so i increase the speed gradually over 30 seconds til i hit 7.3 speed....i can sustain that for 30 seconds barely so i think that qualifies at HIIT(?)...i do 10 sets of that, walk a minute/run a minute, and then i finish out my time with walking at 3.8 speed at a 5% incline

Wow, Chubbygirl, 14 inches in one month? That is amazing! Congratulations on meeting and exceeding your goals.

Alaskanlaughter, I'm no expert but that sounds like HIIT to me.

Tuesday: NROLFW 5B1 and then ran some intervals.
Wednesday: I was really not in the mood to do anything active! Flat out, bratty child style emphatic no. But then I thought about it and was like, really? I'm going to give up on day 5?! That's so lame! So I popped in a bellydance dvd.
Thursday: NROLFW 5A2 and did the intervals again. My legs were practically seized up after the bodyweight matrix so really running was the last thing I wanted to do, but I did it. I was lumbering around like Frankenstein, but I did it. :) I'm hoping getting more blood flowing in the area means I won't be too sore tomorrow.

Sorry, Alaskanlaughter! Didn't mean to abandon you. Congratulations on your new low! That's always so exciting. I'm glad the HIIT is working so well, whether it is the cause of the new low or not.

Chubbygirl, glad you're feeling better. :) Your workouts always amaze me.

I've been here and there and all over the place. I've been doing a lot of jogging, walking, intervals, biking, and such. Haven't lifted since the 8th since I've been trying to exercise outdoors as much as possible while I still can. I'm crazy enjoying running lately so I figure why not focus on that a bit more? Tomorrow is supposed to be stormy and blustery so I'll be back to my weights.

I've been tossing around the idea of not renewing my membership to the studio where I was taking the Les Mills classes until spring. I think I might be better served going to the local Snap Fitness so I can continue my sudden love affair with running through the winter. The cost of the memberships are comparable but it would save me money in that I wouldn't have to spend as much on gas and would certainly save me in time. I feel kind of guilty about it though, as though I'm betraying the studio.

hi gals! I'm super happy cuz I lost 2 more pounds. And as of today I am 25% of the way toward my goal of losing 180 pounds. Yay! Oh, and I joined a challenge at the Y where they divide us into teams and they track how many minutes each participant works out at the Y. And they'll highlight a different fitness class each week and if a participant takes that class they get to count their fitness minutes as double that week. My team is soooo gonna win!

My workout today 10/13:
45 mins strength training
45 mins elliptical with arms

Your team is so going to win, Chubbygirl! They're lucky they have you. How many weeks does the challenge last?

Was whiny and complainy and generally did not want to work out on Sunday but I did anyway. I did not up my weights at all but I unwittingly did more sets than I had the previous time. So yay!
I jogged 3 miles straight last night and walked 1. The route is so lovely. Makes me happy. :)
Tonight is NROLFW again and I'll face the bodyweight matrix. I skimped on it last time I did this workout so I'm determined to conquer it. (And then I get to make some crab and cream cheese wontons which I'm super excited about it.)

I'm getting really, really, REALLY sick of the scale not moving but once a month. Deep into that third week of seeing the same number on the scale, I start to think it'll never move again. Knowing this trend keeps me from pulling my hair out, but I'd be a liar if I didn't say I'm starting to feel discouraged. Next week can't come fast enough for me!

I need to get back on my exercise routine. I had been doing so good and then I petered out. I'm going to exercise when I get home from work tonight and commit to working out like I was before.

two days of HIIT on the treadmill so far this week...two workdays...i sure had to schedule my day accordingly in order to fit it in too LOL...i had an hour gap between work and training this morning, then another 2 hour-ish gap between end of training and work again and i used that time to get my HIIT in for the day...and i definitely had to leave the trainign right when they said it'd be over, no hanging around asking more questions, no chitchat with the coworkers, just "gotta go!" and out the door because i refused to be late for my gym time lol

DH says i'm addicted lol

definitely feeling it in my upper legs tonight too
