Morning! This is my first post. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks, but I have to say thank you for all the support you all have already given me.

So far, I like the plan, and I have found that I really like rutabagas and fennel. Who knew? Not this girl.

So, I grab my pack of apple cinnamon soy puffs for breakfast this morning and head out the door to work stomach growling all the way. I get to work, open the packet and pour into a cup only to discover I have dill pickle zippers for breakfast. Uggghhh..... I like the dill pickle zippers, but not for breakfast. LOL Happy Monday to everyone.

Good morning! I am back!

I had to go off IP for awhile. I had several things happen such that I could not spend on the products. There were also several out of town trips to deal with also. I have to say it was all a bit scarey to me!

Today, I am able to get back to the program completely. Actually so relieved about that.

I worked hard to eat as well as I could. I stayed away from all grains and sugars. I kept the carbs low. Fortunately, I did not gain weight. In no way did I return to my previous eating style or choices.

While I was gone, I had some big revelations about why I compulsively ate, especially carbs, over the years. I have long struggled with depression. Before, I did not realize how much of an anxiety disorder I had been dealing with. It was just my way of struggling through life and hard for me to understand what was going on! Realizing all this and thinking back over my life and the suffering has been a lot to take in.

Anyway, starting my morning with water first. The adventure continues.

Gott run the trimmer then off for wrist surgery. No trimming for a few weeks!Hi USMCVet,
Not sure if you received my note - just wanted to reiterate that you need to watch out for that innocuous looking saline solution they give you with the IV. It could be sugar based - be sure to ask for the non-sugar version.

Good luck!

Good morning all. I'm having issues eating. I'm having to force myself to eat. Is that normal? One thing I can count on is that I am usually okay for breakfast. It's lunch and dinner I have an issue with.

Anyways....have a great day IPers! THINK THIN!

Welcome back Samba,
I know what you mean regarding learning about your emotions and relationship to food. It's great to understand your triggers and corresponding coping mechanisms.

I find myself thinking that in a way I'm glad this weight loss process is taking time. I need this time to understand which emotions cause me to reach for unhealthy snack foods and now I'm beginning to develop new habits to replace the old unhealthy habits. Yesterday Delgen mentioned that she knits to keep from snacking when she shouldn't. I used to love knitting and was planning on taking it up again in the fall. Think I'll start sooner, it's a great way to keep my hands busy.

IP provides the basis for an interesting journey, if one takes the time to think about what's happening emotionally.

I've only had to force myself to eat for the last few days. But before.....that was NEVER an issue.

In the early days of IP I wasn't hungry either. Around day 4 I was HUNGRY and then I went into kitosis and went back to not being hungry. Just make sure you eat your IP packets and veggies, at least every 4 hours. Your body will regulate and fix that all for you soon ;)

Samba: Welcome back! Glad to see you!
Kickapookicks::Welcome: to the forum!
Ticia:During Ketosis we can end up not being hungry since our body is getting the calories it needs from our fat stores. Keep in mind that "eating" can be drinking (if that's easier for you?) so if you are having a hard time getting your protein packets in, try the fruit juice type ones just with ice in them, not smoothie texture just watered down like a fruit punch at a wedding type thing, and for veggies, a light way to get your 4 cups is spinach, it never makes me feel full, and you can snack on it throughout the day if you need as far as "that" goes.
Chloe:Thank you for your insight this morning. Last night I was watching TV and I "caved" by cheating and eating 2 extra bars. I know I must have needed them from my weekend of motorcycle riding (still had a loss this morning) but I know a LOT of it was from boredom as well, as I had just been watching TV at the time.
Vet:Good luck on your surgery today. Are you going to get a dictation program so you can keep typing to us? How cool would that be? :D

Good morning IPeeps! Well, I had my official 11 week weigh in, and I'm down 3.2 pounds to 166.6! Woot Woot Cachoo! I was bouncing at 166.0 for a couple days, which is a good sign for me. NSV - I went to "le mall" with DH yesterday to trade in some video games and he asked where I wanted to go. I HATE clothes shopping, HATE HATE HATE it, just cuz I'm a Fruit of the Loom T-shirts and Levi jeans type of person. So on a whim I say "Express" (drool) because they have super amazing clothes that I know I haven't fit in for forever. I grabbed 2 pairs of jeans (different cuts/brands) one in a 12L and one in a 10L, they both fit! Actually the 10 was as tight as the 12 on me, but those folks don't mess around with sizing, being a 14 I couldn't even shop there :S So I'm pumped that I can squeeze into 10's. It'll be a bit yet before I can just throw out the 12s and wear 10's period, but I'll take what I can get!
Downside, I think my mother in law isn't going to pay me her quarterly car payment (she can't afford to pay me each month but gets quarterly bonuses) because she wants to move to minnesota to be with her boyfriend, who won't pay to help her move, or come down to help her pack or drive the u-haul up (us lucky kids get to help her). The financial burden is starting to suck, as my car still has a legitimate loan on it, and we pay $335/month for it, she pays us $600 every 3 months, and that includes the $50/month car insurance we pay on it (we also pay her cell phone bill of $30/mont). I feel like I have a 57 year old daughter! Result if she doesn't pay us: No new clothes for me, no new helmet for DH, and our trip to Sturgis will be tight financially. >.<

Today at work HAS to be productive; the boss comes back next Monday and I don't want him to think I'm slacking!

The flab under my arms is finally starting to firm up a bit, I'm thinking riding is helping out with that, so I'm also happy about THAT little turn of events.

Good morning!
Samba, it sounds like you have gained some great insights. I hope to change both my thoughts and my habits. There are definitely times when I know I'm acting fat even though I'm eating op. I'm only halfway done with my weightloss, so hopefully I can still get a handle on the emotioal/boredom side of eating.

Today is my WI. Please send me the whoooosh fairy. There is a chance I could make it to onederland. I am bracing myself and telling myself not to expect it, but of course I can't wait to get there. This last ten pounds have been agonizingly slow even though I've been op.

Whoosh fairy, send me some love!

Good morning everyone!!!
I'm on my first day of IP (on my own). I do have a question I could use some clarification on. I bought Morton's Fine Sea Salt. It also says it's Mediterranean Sea Salt. I thought I had read on here somewhere that sea salt should not be all white like regular salt. This salt IS all white so wanted to make sure so I can buy another if needed. Thanks for the help!!!:D

I do RTD's or a drink for breakfast, but then I wait until lunch (something more substantial) before I take my vitamins and supplements.

Good morning IPers! I have been staying OP while going away on vacation for long weekends, but I'm really craving blueberries. Went to a farm stand and stuck to the locally grown zuccini, celery, and cucumbers. I found relief at barbeques-- sausage (are we allowed?). I'm hoping sausage is okay-- I made sure there were no breadcrumbs, sugar, or cheese in them.
Samba- It is so interesting that you were able to link your craving for carbs with your emotions. It really makes me wonder about my own carb/sugar addictions as well. Right before I found IP, this nutritionist friend told me my carb.addiction was related to my mother issues. She knows nothing about me and my mother (who I love, but who doesn't have mother issues). It made me mad to think that my mom is the reason I want to eat chips and ice cream for dinner.
Kickapookicks-- I love fennel too. How do you eat rutabaga?
Kaypix- Congrats on your loss and the purchase of your 2 new pairs of jeans!
Have a great Monday everyone!

Samba - great to see you back! :) And I totally know what you mean about being forced to explore your eating habits. The white sea salt has been bleached which removes alot of the minerals that are good for you.

Today starts a new week. Feels weird to have 3 Mondays in a 7 day span :)

I really despise Mondays though. It takes me a while to wake up. Honestly thought even on the weekends I wake up at the crack of dawn. It's just when I HAVE to get up.

Really I should like Mondays b/c that means one more day till my WI which I am always excited for.

I went on the train 15 years ago with 25 2nd grade girls, so I am thinking this trip will be a lot more relaxing and fun for me :D I will let you know tomorrow how it goes.

welcome back, Samba. i have been thinking of you lately. sounds like you've had some great insights. that is why i like IP... it took the carbs out of the picture so i could get real about my relationship with food. It is incredible how sugar can mess with the emotional picture. good for you.

Thanks all for the welcome back!

Usmcvet: hope surgery gives you great results! You are in much better shape to undergo surgery than before losing. Yay!

Kickapookicks: Glad to see you started posting. Join in! Everyone adds to the community!

Chloe222: Yes, I was definitely dealing with emotions. Then, an addiction to carbs grew, then my metabolism broke..... I am really working on transforming life as I knew it. IP has been the catalyst. I hope that anyone else who has reasons for overeating can begin to find those.
I recommend knitting! I restarted it too. This month I am on my third Baktus scarf. It is a free pattern on Ravelry. I love the site. Lots of free patterns and inspiration. I like simple patterns and small projects that I can tote along.

Greeniris: Thank you! I too have been struck with the fact that I have been strong to make it as far as I have with a social anxiety and some generalized anxiety. Then the health problems from the eating. I am so hopeful about getting better.

Mooselover: Good to "hear" from you! You are looking really great! I am glad to be back to the IP strictly. Just a few more pounds to go in that regard.

Swimcoachmama: Thank you for thinking of me! A relationship with food, boy, that does say a lot about it! I had to mourn parts of that changing. Right now, I am very careful as I know the pitfalls are there. One day, one meal at a time right now.

OMGitzMiranda: glad you are back. You are worth it no matter what it takes to get healthy and well!

Kaypix: i hear you on the money fun! Glad the weight loss is working though!

Second, I do not know how to buy clothes unless I am ordering bras from a catalog or Lane Bryant! I haven't been able to buy off the rack in a VERY LONG TIME. I do not fully realize how and why I behave around it like I do. I'm definitely a foodie though. I have friends who don't have issues around food. I can't relate. Wish I knew some easy steps to take, but I am working on awareness and relaxation when I feel the urge to put something in my mouth.

Morning! This is my first post. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks, but I have to say thank you for all the support you all have already given me.

So far, I like the plan, and I have found that I really like rutabagas and fennel. Who knew? Not this girl.

Welcome to posting! I have yet to try rutabagas and fennel. Will add to the list soon

LOL I did the same thing 3x last week.. Went thinking I had a vanilla shake mix and poured out a soy patty mix, a herb & cheese omelette mix and a pudding..

Good morning all, have a great day!

Have a great day too shathom! You are slimming down quite a bit!

Welcome back Samba I have missed your posts. You are so spot on about how we use food to mask other issues.

Good morning all. I'm having issues eating. I'm having to force myself to eat. Is that normal? One thing I can count on is that I am usually okay for breakfast. It's lunch and dinner I have an issue with.

Anyways....have a great day IPers! THINK THIN!

I found that I had to eat on schedule the first few days. It should level out soon

.

IP provides the basis for an interesting journey, if one takes the time to think about what's happening emotionally.
This is so true

WI day here. A bit bummed because it looks like I gained weight from my low this week ;(

Still sending the whoosh fairy your way for a pleasant weigh in surprise

Not judging or anything but if your m-i-l is moving to a man who wont help her move, pack up or drive, it does not sound like a basis for a good relationship. Sorry that the kids have to do all the work too.

Whoosh fairy, send me some love!

sending the whoosh fairy to you

Good morning! My weigh in is tomorrow. I am finishing up my 6th week! I can't believe how fast and easy these last 6 weeks have been. I haven't seen a loss (or gain) this week,so I am hoping that whoosh fairy visits before tomorrow!!

I am trying to decide if I want to spend the day at school getting my classroom ready already. Today is my husband's last day at home from his back surgery, so I think I need to take advantage of him watching my 2 little ones.

Well, I hope everyone has a super OP day!

Have a super OP day too

Good morning everyone!!!
I'm on my first day of IP (on my own). I do have a question I could use some clarification on. I bought Morton's Fine Sea Salt. It also says it's Mediterranean Sea Salt. I thought I had read on here somewhere that sea salt should not be all white like regular salt. This salt IS all white so wanted to make sure so I can buy another if needed. Thanks for the help!!!:D

Congratulations on starting IP!! I see you have an answer to the sea salt question

Morning all! Lots going on in here already!

Big hellos and happy Mondays to everyone else!

Happy Monday to you too!

Samba - So glad you are back and that you had some revelations to help you with your future. I missed you. I liked keeping up with you because you started about the same time as me. Welcome back!!!

Lots on my mind today! First, I am absolutely loving my crispy cereal pancake with WF apple butter and coffee...YUM! Second, I do not know how to buy clothes unless I am ordering bras from a catalog or Lane Bryant! I haven't been able to buy off the rack in a VERY LONG TIME. I can't believe I am looking at Large sizes, not XL,or XXL. No more PLUS SIZE. It sounds weird I am sure but I am out of my comfort zone. IP is amazing!

I know how you feel with the sizing!! i still find myself looking thru each lane bryant catalog that comes to the house. I love wearing clothes without Ws or Xs in the size. I would suggest going to a shop where you can be fitted for a bra- it makes a huge difference.

how are you doing with the fires? we had some cool, damp weather, so things are clearer here. did your cabin do ok??

So, slept horribly, allergies kicking in, feeling crappy, now I am stuck at home because the car won't start...waiting on the tow truck to the dealership(we had it serviced there on Sat...fishy huh?). Hubby came home and tried to jump it, no luck, but he dropped off the kid at daycare. At least I get a complimentary shuttle home so I don't have to spend hours in their lobby like this weekend.

But on the upside...I am wearing my size 4 jeans! They are comfy, no muffin top, so I have IP going for me! Stay OP folks...be checking in later!

While sausage is okay on many low carb diets, it's not on this one because the fat content is too high.

Good morning everyone!!!

I buy Real Salt, which you can always find at any health food store and some regular markets. It looks more like sand, definitely not bleached at all.
I'm sure the other sea salt you found will be fine till you run out or can find a higher quality sea salt.

After being gone for many, many months & going through a rough time in life; I do believe I'm FINALLY seeing the other side of it. I'm back & you can expect me AROUND FOR GOOD! I'm not doing this flipping & flopping thing anymore, I'm back & this is where I NEED TO BE.

Already had my breakfast shake & now I'm almost done with my first liter of water! Woo! I GOT THIS!
Glad to see you back!

Wohoo, I just got back from a one week vacation and lost 2.2 pounds. I find that incredible.

I never went "off" the program with non-IP friendly foods, but a few times I had more than one bar in a day based on how close we would be to home-base and how physically active I was. I felt like I was gaining, but I LOST!!

On to no restricted for the next three days to get me back in true IP form.

And, I sent my coach a note that I'm not returning. Alternates did fine for me.

Kaypix,
Sorry to hear about your MIL. She's lucky to have loving kids to support her. There are times when we all need a hand of some type, whether its money, physical help with a project, or a shoulder to cry on, etc.

Great weight loss and congrats on getting into the 160's! Looking forward to that meatza recipe, when you have a moment.

Samba,
Have you heard of the book due out next month in the US called "The Carb Sensitivity Program"? I pre-ordered it (amazon). You might find it interesting.

Liz,
Congrats on the size 4 jeans!! Sorry about the rest of your day though.

Question: With your weight loss, do you think you lose more if a. you don't work out for the week or b. you lift extra heavy weights?

I'm experimenting right now with minimal exercise (I typically do 5 workouts a week, now just 2 short ones, no weights, for the next week). Thanks for your insight.

Good morning! Today feels like a new, bright day full of possibilities. Let's stay on plan and learn more about ourselves today. I love that so many of us are figuring out our triggers on this journey.

Anyway, good luck with surgeries, WIs, work projects, and OP days.

The Carb Sensitivity Program aounds interesting. Obviously, I am super carb sensitive. I will have to get it.

Wuv- thanks! Yes, I am back because IP works. It has been a lifesaver for me. I am back to continue the weight loss. iP really does result in loss if you stick with it. Some weeks more, some less or none...but, over the course of it, the losses will come! It has been a great eating plan for my type and my broken metabolism suffering with Metabolic Syndrome. That syndrome soooo linked to carbs and IP took care of that issue!

Great NSV this morning. I went in for my 6 month check up at the dentist and he was overjoyed with my teeth. I mentioned that I was eating healthy and one of the side effects of Ketosis is nasty breath. Since I am paranoid about that I carry a toothbrush and toothpaste to work and in my purse and now brush average of 5 times a day. He was quite pleased with that and the fact that I have been soda free for a while now.

Good morning. I'm back to work today after a week off. Learning the ropes for alt-IP still. I didn't catch that tomatoes were restricted, and was happily adding them to salads often over the 9 days since i started but I know better now. I'm not going to beat myself up over that, goodness I didn't get to 355 eating tomatoes! Thankfully I'm enjoying a lot of the other veggies as well. Not official WI until Friday, but scale says i'm down 13.7 pounds in that time frame so I'm happy.
I'm 50 y/o - have been on the weight loss wagon many times with many programs- it's always been an issue in my life. I had lap band surgery in 2000 in Mexico, and it has broken 4 times. I had it repaired 3x and have just lived with it broken (no fill is one part of that break-aka, no restriction, aka not doing what it is supposed to do) for the last ~5 years. I don't see it as a +/- with this diet at all, it just is. The string about metal in our bodies and effecting weight makes me wonder about implants with metal in general (heck dentistry for that matter). Regardless I am where I am weight wise (if metal plays a part in this - I can't change that right now) and the only thing I can change is the way I eat today moving forward. That's where I will focus.

Very first weigh in today.....in 45 minutes. Totally excited!!

Good luck!!

Samba - my issues and relationship with food is the one thing that I remain scared of in all of this. For as long as I can remember, food is what I used to reward myself, calm myself, comfort myself or entertain myself. I was a reward/stress/grief/boredom eater for sure, and I know I'm not alone in this. So going forward, it's really important to me to retrain my brain that FOOD is not the appropriate answer in any of these situations. I keep telling myself that it is fuel, and nothing more, to try and break the repetition. Some days it works, some days it doesn't.

I have no problem staying 100% OP, but I do catch myself sometimes in the way I react to certain foods. Like how much I look forward to my restricted each day. How I save and savour it like it's a 'treat' instead of it simply being a part of my day. Now I know I don't have to swing completely in the opposite direction, that it is still going to be okay to derive some pleasure from food, but I need to kick the mental habit of food as substitute for something else, and I'm working hard on that now.

Yes, eating bars has been particularly revealing. The way I want to grab one and eat it in front of a show makes me tremble a bit. I know I've got to get that part figured out.

That is a great result and not a week yet. This program works for sure. I sometimes eat tomatoes more than twice a week but its not a whole tomato, if anything I will slice or cube a roman tomato and use it on my salad splitting it twice. I don't think I could eat 2 cups of tomatoes at a time....lol...You seem to be on the right path going down so that is a good thing!

I haven't been on here in awhile, but I'm still sticking to IP! :) The loss I've had already is amazing and my body is changing so much, I can't get enough of looking at the differences.

One day I went off IP (honestly, it was more do it with the one thing I wanted or splurge on everything else), had the one meal I wanted, and while it was very yummy, I missed having my veggies. If anything, it seemed to help jump start my loss again and I've had no ill effects from it. I'm not saying this is a good idea, but it worked for me and I kept myself in check with it.

I am having a bit of a hard time finding enough protein bars that I can eat. Gluten free is a must for me, so finding bars like that is a bit of a pain. It's irritating to see how much Pure Protein bars versus the bars I can have, but better to spend more $$ than to be sick.

Wow, rambly update. I hope everyone is having a great time with their weight loss and sticking to it!

Kaypix- sorry to hear about your struggles with your mom. Her BF won't help her out and yet she wants to go be with him. Oy!! good for you for helping out. However, I have to laugh given your recent Whoosh Fairy visit... At least you won't have to buy an A$$ for your chaps!!! lol. have a great day.
Haha yeah I can get them for cheap that way!! LoL!

Kaypix- Congrats on your loss and the purchase of your 2 new pairs of jeans!

Sorry to misinform on that, I tried them on and they fit, I didn't actually buy them, they are $80 each or 2 for $120 and I don't have that kind of cash laying around lol, but I look forward to when I "need" size 10's then I HAVE to go shopping yay!

kaypix, congrats on your WI and also on the jeans!
Thanks!

Not judging or anything but if your m-i-l is moving to a man who wont help her move, pack up or drive, it does not sound like a basis for a good relationship. Sorry that the kids have to do all the work too.

Nah, you can judge, it's been a long A$$ year, we pay $335+$55+$30/month for MIL for the last year (car+insurance+cell phone) and her boyfriend is a complete donkey, but she's in luv after a 25 year marriage (got married at 17) ending in an ugly divorce and a 10 year relationship ending in the guy still loving her but moving away to get a job (total of 3 relationships now). This new beau wouldn't even help his own daughter move because he couldn't risk hurting himself, he's only 58! My dad's that age and helps with all sorts of stuff, just knows his limitations and when to ask for help etc. I can't wait until my car is truly paid off (next June) and then MIL keeps paying us (yeah, like that'll happen, she'll have some trauma like getting dumped by this jerk and has to move home now and wont' be able to pay for like a year or something ) I know it's not her "fault" but she didn' think she could afford a car when hers got totaled last summed in a flood, so we leased a NEW car ($350/month) so she could drive MY car which wasn't paid off, instead of the old truck that she can't drive cuz she's too short, then her phone she said was "our" idea so she didn't get onto her bf's plan (who she couldn't stand at the time) and the insurance. It wasn't her "fault" she didn't make her son pay mortgage when he was staying with her, so me and DH had to chip in an extra $400 to her one month to prevent foreclosure, which she is now in ANYWAYS (and still has "no" money even though she only has to pay $200/month in credit cards and stuff, then half the utilities). She's just "always" a victim, and I'm sick of it! Sorry, that was a long rant :(

Despite my dismay regarding my very expensive shaker this morning  I was very glad that my weigh in showed a 3.2 pound weight loss.

I was a tad nervous this morn because I was coming off of the July 4th holiday week - I had family in town so there was crazy eats and cookin' going on - BUT - I was able to hold fast and stay OP.

I'm stunned that I wasn't even gravely tempted to delve into all the burgers and fries and cakes and ice cream and such. :carrot:

No weight lost this week :( Well, if you count the 0.2 pounds then I guess it is something, but better to say nothing.
I know it's my own fault because I had more extras than I should have last week. Still, I did resist A LOT of temptations because my family and friends ate like pigs all week and I didn't touch anything, I just had more cups of tea than usual and a few days I had a 4th packet.
It's hard to stay motivated when you don't lose any weight. It's the first time on IP that I really lose nothing :( Must be better this week and keep a positive outlook, I know. I can do this. Cheating is NOT AN OPTION.

That is one fancy shaker!! Sorry about that little escapade.

I too recently went to a family gathering. Oh my the carbs there! Constantly out and about for consumption over a three day get together at a church camp! What a deal. I have 50+ year history with this family feed event, too. Was not sure I could weather it. But, I did! Veggies, salads, plain meats and eggs. No desserts. I even made it through homemade ice cream night without eating any. It was good to see that I could do it. My son 's girlfriend ate the apple pie and had a gallbladder attack. Felt bad for her. I knew what was wrong from personal experience. A big reminder of how I was taking care of myself.

Keep on with your new lifestyle and food choices!

IPDivajen Been on vacation this past week and just saw your new pic - you look FANTASTIC!

LizRR Sorry for the rough morning, but at least you have cute size 4 jeans and NO MUFFIN TOP. That's awesome. I know you work out - do you do ab crunches? I would love to figure out how to lose my muffin top (I do the treadmill, and take Body Pump 2x/wk, but I don't know that they will specifically help with the muffin top situation).

I just got back from a week long vacation - a hot road trip filled with hiking, walking and a lot of fun! I stayed 100% OP and managed to lose 4 lbs! So happy today :D

Well, lost 3lbs- so thats good. I'm a bit frustrated with my clinic though. I seem to see a different coach every week. This weeks coach told me I COULD have phased off for my upcoming trip in just two weeks- that would have been FABULOUS to know! The more I think about this trip the less I even want to go. It's going to be SO hard to stay on plan. I may just eat 3 packets upfront and then get a spinach salad every night for dinner or something, since I can't predict where/what I'll be eating otherwise.

So my mom was inspired to join IP and today was her first weigh in. She lost 11lbs and lots of inches, but her coach freaked out because half of her loss was fat and the other lean mass. He questioned her over and over about cheating on non-IP products. She lives with me this summer and I know she has been awesome (except for some EAS carb control shakes I give her)...but it's never affected me. Per my coach, I told her to add some broth to the soup this last week to make it taste ok and she loved it. He freaked out about the broth and then just through his hands up in a puff and said "whatever".

For my own sanity, is chicken broth allowed from your coaches? It took a lot for my mom to commit to this and now she is upset even though she had a big loss. Anyone else with a similar experience their first week in body fat loss too?

Chicago: Think of it like this: If she's not cheating, then she's doing good. If for some reason she seems to be losing muscle, I'd imagine that means bump up the protein a bit? I've had the EAS shakes and Atkins and they've not slowed my loss that I can tell. Her coach should be more supportive >.< (sorry, I get defensive about coaches being mean to moms). Do they use a calibrator on her to determine the fat she lost or just a scale with fancy mechanics on it? I'm just curious, as my home scale has the fancy mechanics and my "body fat %" goes up and down a little here and there, but overall I see it goign down.

I'll be sending positive healing thoughts your way

Morning! This is my first post. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks, but I have to say thank you for all the support you all have already given me.

So far, I like the plan, and I have found that I really like rutabagas and fennel. Who knew? Not this girl.

This forum is awesome, I do a lot of lurking too, and have gotten so much motivation and learned so much here, :wel3fc:

So, I grab my pack of apple cinnamon soy puffs for breakfast this morning and head out the door to work stomach growling all the way. I get to work, open the packet and pour into a cup only to discover I have dill pickle zippers for breakfast. Uggghhh..... I like the dill pickle zippers, but not for breakfast. LOL Happy Monday to everyone.

What are dill pickle zippers?

Good morning all, have a great day!

Good morning :D

I have anxiety issues myself, and combined with still eating like I did when I was young and thin, the weight piled on. I am starting to see my patterns and IP has really helped....it's ok to feel hungry sometimes, I would just keep going till I couldn't move, lol! I have been 100% OP even when it seems that I will collapse frpm hunger, lol, we've got this!

Good morning all. I'm having issues eating. I'm having to force myself to eat. Is that normal? One thing I can count on is that I am usually okay for breakfast. It's lunch and dinner I have an issue with.

Anyways....have a great day IPers! THINK THIN!

I've never had a problem getting my food in, :o, good luck to you!

WI day here. A bit bummed because it looks like I gained weight from my low this week ;(

Remember, ups and downs, our bodies are trying to adjust to our new healthier weight :smug:

Whoosh.....:carrot:

After being gone for many, many months & going through a rough time in life; I do believe I'm FINALLY seeing the other side of it. I'm back & you can expect me AROUND FOR GOOD! I'm not doing this flipping & flopping thing anymore, I'm back & this is where I NEED TO BE.

Already had my breakfast shake & now I'm almost done with my first liter of water! Woo! I GOT THIS!

Welcome back, you've got this! :D

Size 4, WOO HOO! Keep it up, and hope you feel better soon!

AWESOME! My daughter does alternatives and is doing great.

Good morning! Today feels like a new, bright day full of possibilities. Let's stay on plan and learn more about ourselves today. I love that so many of us are figuring out our triggers on this journey.

Anyway, good luck with surgeries, WIs, work projects, and OP days.

~Jenni

Nicely said, thank you! :)

AWESOME NSV :carrot:

Very first weigh in today.....in 45 minutes. Totally excited!!

You've got this!:carrot:

Sounds like you are doing great, keep it up, we are all learning on this journey and if you take a step back, just dust off and continue on

0.2 is still a loss, and you resisted the temptations and that counts for something so give yourself credit :D. Don't beat yourself up, the weight will come off, sometimes slower at times, you are rocking it!;)

I lost 3.4 pounds and 2.5 inches......I'm on my way baby!!

My daughter makes them with EVOO, Garlic, pepper, sea salt, anything really that you would want to season them with, in the oven at 450 for around 40-45 minutes, turning occasionally, yummmm :dizzy:

Hello to all again,
I decided to come back to Ideal Protein after a falling off of the wagon for a long time. I thought I was happy and just ate what I wanted....
Well 30lbs came back on and everything I lost was back in 11 months.

Yesterday I went to visit my daughter who has been out of the country and working in another city. It was hot and I had a horrible time keeping from sweating to death. (I am also at that age of hot flashes) My daughter poked me in the belly and said, "If you got rid of some of this it would help"
This was like an awakening. She told me that I had been looking really good and now she could tell that I had gained weight.

I knew deep down I needed to get going again, but this was the motivation that I needed. I know that she loves me and I am sure this was just to say, Hey mom, you know what to do!

Sorry for the rambling. Glad to be back to this great group!

I have had that problem a few times, and I just plug away and eat what I am supposed to. As it was explained to me in the introduction meeting. Your glycogen tank is empty after 3 days, so it's important to eat to keep your motor running and burn our body fat, instead of our muscle.

Kaypix - The way she described it sounded like my clinic where they put your information into this handheld device and then you hold it for a few seconds and it gives you a reading. Thanks for the advice on the protein. I think she's stayed to more fish during the week so I will try to get a few more things in her.

Another washingtonian here - and yes, summer is finally here. Our family escapes to east of the mountains over 4th of July week, so it was nice to come back to sun instead of the usual rain. Good job in staying away from the ice cream. My little nephew has a pint of Grammy's cake batter ice cream in the freezer, but I just say "Naw that ain't happening." and switch the brain channel to something else.

OK so I think I finally decided on the layout I'm using, and I've been trucking along getting it set up, here's what we got so far:

Let me know if it needs to be alphabetized, cuz at this point I'm not planning on it. You can click on the links in the table of contents and get directed to that section of the book (grumbles at Mac's MS Word quirks)

Hi USMCVet,
Not sure if you received my note - just wanted to reiterate that you need to watch out for that innocuous looking saline solution they give you with the IV. It could be sugar based - be sure to ask for the non-sugar version.

Good luck!

I misse you message. But remember your old post. I checked pre opmand this morning. It had no glucose. My sugar was 87 pre op and my bp was 54/106 post op.

Samba: Welcome back! Glad to see you!
Kickapookicks::Welcome: to the forum!

Awesome NSVs pretty lady! One handed iPad typing stinks.
Good morning! Just a quick note to say hello and wish everyone a great OP week and good WIs for all.

So funny stories at hospital.

The nurses were all awesome.

I had an IV in my left hand for a Bier block then one in my right for pain meds. So left went in one shot. The right took two sticks to the hand no go then a second nurse put on in my right forearm. So I'm waiting for the doctor. I was sore from not moving and I asked if I could stand up. While I was I looked at my right arm and saw blood in the line and thought that's not supposed to have blood in it. I hen saw blood dripping in the floor, I had unplugged the IV. I held my finger over the end dripping and the nurse came in to help, as she was reaching for it I said I've got it you should get some gloves. We both laughed. I then saw some blood on the floor and wall. Man what a mess. We all had a good laugh.

The nurse who took me to the OR was from Brooklyn. I asked where she was from, knowing it was NYC, she said Alabama. I asked to walk toth OR which she was ok with. My back still hurt from sitting for an hour. Close to the OR she said ok do you want a kiss before surgery, meaning my wife.

Wait for it.

So I leaned over and kissed the nurse on the cheek. She laughed and said no you wife.. Michele was talking to the anesthesia doc who we knew because our kids went to day care together. I kissed Michele and off I went. Once the happy juice was hooked up Brooklyn introduced a new nurse and said she was going to lunch. She bent over and kissed me on the cheek,we laughed again. Shetold Michele about it later. Funny stuff.

After surgery Michele had gone to the cafeteria and brought me a hardboiled egg and a half, a few slices of turkey breast and ham, cucumbers and other greens. Very sweet of her and just what I needed.

I am in my 3rd week - weigh in tomorrow. My first week I lost 6 lbs. I gained 3% body fat and lost 10% muscle. The coach and I chalked it up to just starting out. I'm not going to sweat it. The body sometimes does funny things and the equipment used to measure.

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=56830

if it continues then I'll have to figure out what the problem is. I missed my 2nd weigh-in as I was out of town, so tomorrow will be interesting.

Sounds like your Mom's coach is a...well...I won't say. Obviously he doesn't have a way with people.

After surgery Michele had gone to the cafeteria and had a hardboiled egg and a half, a few slices of turkey breast, ham, cucumbers and other greens. Very sweet of her and hust what I needed.

Hahaha! You are quite the flirt! :D:D:D

Seriously, glad things seem to have gone well and glad your back on the board.

Well, that was a less than supportive coaching episode! Sorry your Mom experienced that.

I am just sure I was told broth was okay. I get the low fat kind.

Hello everybody! I use to have chronic heartburn but thanks to this program it has not been bothering me AT ALL (hooray...happy dance!). Friday night I suddenly had a twinge of "oh-oh, i'm gonna get hearburn." Suddenly my mouth filled up with foam (maybe it was bile?).
My coach had no idea why this happened, has anyone experienced anything similar?
I hadn't had anything except water in me for several hours - the only different thing I had, was an IP orange shake at lunchtime.
Since i've started IP i've taking a pill with each meal (recommended by my coach) to help me digest food cause I had my gallbladder removed.
I feel really good, it hasn't happened again....hopefully this was just a strange one time thing (I really hope so!).

I'm betting the orange shake was too acidic and just made your stomach go nuts, since it didn't have carbs to absorb it? Just cuz your diet is better doesn't mean if you had chronic heartburn or whatever the "doctor" term of it that it just disapears completely. Did the foam burn up your throat like acid reflux? Horrid comparrison but my mother in law's shitzhus get acid reflux and lord knows THEY don't eat anything unhealthy. the gallblader shouldn't be affected by non fatty/non greasy foods that much, i'd look again at that pill you're taking. Here's a post from everydayhealth.org

After Gallbladder Surgery: Foods to Avoid

While your body adjusts, it is a good idea to avoid high-fat foods for a few weeks after having gallbladder surgery. High-fat foods include:

Foods that are fried, like French fries and potato chips
High-fat meats, such as bacon, bologna, sausage, ground beef, and ribs
High-fat dairy products, such as cheese, ice cream, cream, whole milk, and sour cream
Pizza
Foods made with lard or butter
Creamy soups or sauces
Meat gravies
Chocolate
Oils, such as palm and coconut oil
Skin of chicken or turkey
High-fiber and gas-producing foods can also cause some people discomfort after gallbladder surgery, so you may want to introduce them slowly back into your diet. These include:
Cereals
Whole-grain breads
Nuts
Seeds
Legumes
Brussels sprouts
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Spicy foods may also cause some gastrointestinal symptoms for a short time after gallbladder removal.

The only stuff I see on here that are supposed to be eaten on protocol are what, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, maybe the bacon and ground beef, and chocolate which would be in the packets? Maybe talk to a doc about what the diet is and see if you need that pill anymore, just food for thought.

Kaypix- Seriously!!! Argh! That makes me mad to hear of your mother playing the victim role and having you pay for all of her bills....and that doorknob of a bf she has not willing to lift a finger..Doesnt sound like a keeper to me. Honestly..if that were my mother..and dont get me wrong.. i love my mother...but if she was living off of me like that...I would be setting some serious boundaries and making it REAL clear that if she cant pay her bills, then she is on her own...cause seriously.. i can not stand the thought of anyone just living off of someone else and making excuses for themselves and not growing up and doing the right thing by paying there own bills or at least finding a creative soloution to the problem that doesnt burden the other party involved.

In other news: My parents arrive in a few hours...how exciting! Im looking forward to them visiting..My mother has already made a case for why i should work out every single day (My response: Ah not on this diet you dont) Her response: Well i know nothing about the diet so... My inner thoughts : Yah you can say that again! There is nothing more hilarious then watching a person who knows nothing about your diet, tell you that you should do this and do that...when they have no idea that your not supposed to. Technically im in week 6 now and i could exercise..but every time i go on my treadmill...even at walking at 2.0 mph my heart rate still goes up to the 170 range...and im not even puffing...so im not sure how to walk on my treadmill and keep my heart rate in the fat burning zone only..im afraid im going to do some damage to my muscle when its up in the 170s...

Anywho... hope all have a great day OP today!!!

Liz,
Congrats on the size 4 jeans!!

I have found it's pretty consistent either way - but I do make 'adjustments' when I workout and when I don't - eg, when I workout I have the 4th packet that's a restricted, and when I don't workout I do all unrestricteds. Also, I do find I have a temporary 3-4 day 'gain' when I lift that gets whooshed away and then some by weeks end - muscles do retain water when they tear & repair, so when I have a workout change I always give myself a 2 week experiment window, since a daily fluctuation is not really an accurate way to measure an effect. I have definitely noticed that now that I have increased my weights my lean mass loss has reversed/stopped (I also cut down on my walking while increasing my weightlifting).

I do Bodypump 3x/week, with a 1 mile 11min warmup jog beforehand...I just started increasing my weights. I have cut down on the walking I used to do most days a week since the heat really kicked in ~4 weeks now, but I was doing ~2-2.5mi/day. I don't do anything extra, just stay 100% OP! To be honest, until last week I had consistently lost lean mass weekly, but I think I've reached the 'tipping point' - I know I had extra muscle since I had been intensely lifting before IP that I stopped cold turkey, picked up lightly in week 8 at 2x/week, and now have been doing 3x/week and increasing my weights the past 2 weeks. Honestly, you have to just experiment with yourself and listen to your body. Remember that everyone responds differently.

Have you thought about going to Phase 2 over vacation? If that will help you "power through it" and still enjoy yourself, I always think that's a better option - I had do that in Week 3 when my business trip was unexpectedly extended and I had to make my IP foods stretch out and I was still able to lose. Congratulations on your loss this week! That's a great number!

WOW!! My coach told me I could not have jicama! I wonder why b/c I sure would be eating those fries up!!

Jicama is on the Select Veggies list on the latest Phase 1 Sheet dated 5/2012. Print this out and bring it to your coach since they have outdated information. Also note the protein is set at 8oz straight (not 5-8oz). Here's a link to the post in the sticky:

For my own sanity, is chicken broth allowed from your coaches? It took a lot for my mom to commit to this and now she is upset even though she had a big loss. Anyone else with a similar experience their first week in body fat loss too?

Ridiculous! Check your labels - but the chicken broth I use (with my coach's permission) adds FIVE calories per cup from ALL PROTEIN. And get a clue coach....part of what 'lean mass' consists of is WATER, which is notoriously what a majority of that first weeks loss is made up of! I swear - I get steamed every time I hear another story from these coaches and their "people skills"...WHATEVER! Sounds like your moms coach really needs to have some coaching of his own!

Kaypix - The way she described it sounded like my clinic where they put your information into this handheld device and then you hold it for a few seconds and it gives you a reading. Thanks for the advice on the protein. I think she's stayed to more fish during the week so I will try to get a few more things in her.

Your mom did EXCELLENT - I don't see ANYTHING wrong with her, she should have left that office feeling so proud of her accomplishments, because that is a great FIRST WEIGH IN! Tell her that Liz gives her mad props. Still a little steamed...

In other news: My parents arrive in a few hours...how exciting! Im looking forward to them visiting..My mother has already made a case for why i should work out every single day (My response: Ah not on this diet you dont) Her response: Well i know nothing about the diet so... Ha! OMG, I feel for you Porthardy...a lot of folks are assuming that I am just exercising like crazy on this diet - but honestly I do my weightlifting class 3x/week and that's been about it lately, besides light walking. But it's funny how the preconceived notions of diet and exercise really don't apply with IP. Good for you to listen to your body and be mindful of your heartrate! And congratulations on sticking with it - you are doing great - especially with TOM2: The Revenge sneaking up on you like that!

Must.Stay.Positive!!!

I have gone on 5 vacations since starting IP (I use alternatives). I essentially did a Phase 2 as I found it worked the easiest yet kept me reined into the security of Phase 1. It really worked out fairly easily, sometimes I would eat breakfast and dinner, other days lunch and dinner, as well as a shake and restricted. I continued my weight loss which, considering my age (56), has been slow but steady.
Hope this helps!

That dress is happening soon! Going to try one on at Nordstroms with my daughters to figure out my size, but will probably then order it online as the selection of prints etc. is much better. Trust me, for this much money I will be getting the print I want. For any who care, here's a link to the highly anticipated DVF wrap dress:
http://www.dvf.com/dresses/the-wrap-shop/wrap-shop-fashion,default,sc.html?mkwid=sVOGHONJr&gclid=CLuigKTcjbECFcsZQgodxS8eUg

Had to visit the site and live vicariously...which style and print would I get? ...got it narrowed down a handful, finally. So many pretty choices!!

Do you want the New Jeanne dress or the New Julian dress?

With your dark hair, some of the gold/orange dresses would be sensational, unless you bought the solid red...that would be stellar too. Then there's the classic black and navy...

Congratulations again! :hug::carrot:

Me too and now I am back at it! good luck & come here everyday, I do, even if I don't post! Wuv will whip us into shape. lol

Kaypix - The way she described it sounded like my clinic where they put your information into this handheld device and then you hold it for a few seconds and it gives you a reading. Thanks for the advice on the protein. I think she's stayed to more fish during the week so I will try to get a few more things in her.

Could she go to your coach? I hate to see people paying such big bucks to be abused and in my opinion that is what this is.

Oh NO!!!! I just checked my Phase 1 sheet and they're not called out either way :( I read about them on here (probably from Diana!!) and thought they sounded good (and they were). I hope I didn't cheat by accident -- although with me it could be a lot worse than with Jicama!

Jules - Per the copy of the Phase 1 sheet daed 5/2/2012, Jicama IS on there so no worries..............

It looks really good, I for one appreciate the time an effort on this!

I weighed in today and lost 4 lbs of fat, but gained 2 lbs of muscle. Anyone else have this happen?

Probably the New Julian or the New Jeanne Two as I like it better without the collar, but you never know as I haven't tried on either. My oldest daughter has one, and my mom did too in the '70's so I guess it's about time.

You've earned it.

Well, I didn't make it to onederland. Not this week anyway. BUT I did lose 2.6 pounds and gain 3. 6 pounds of muscle! Whoopee!

Oh, and my coach offered to leave the room and let me weigh naked! Heehee, I appreciated her enthusiasm, but I trust that number will change soon enough.

About squash, my coach said that the no squash thing is referring to hard squashes like acorn, butternut, spaghetti, etc. Zucchini and its cousin summer squash are both allowed.

Wow! That is great. If you don't mind me asking, how did you gain your muscle? Light weight training? Thanks!

Honestly, I think it was the fact that my coach put me on 4 packets a day. I had been losing lean mass, just a little bit, but quite steadily. She was a little concerned and suggested I try 4 packets for a while. I really don't do much exercise. I know I will need to do some serious toning up when I am done with the weightloss phase, but right now I am content just to lose fat. Each thing, in its season.

I too am losing lean mass. Just like 2-3lbs every 4 weeks. I will think about taking 4 packets a day. Of course like a 1gm Carb item like a drink or maybe add a gelatin as a 4th.

Thank you for that information. I will talk to my coach tomorrow about it. :)
