Good morning everyone. I have sat and paid bills this morning, ordered Fortune more flea and tick meds (they are much cheaper online) and need to get to cleaning house, but don't know if it will get done today or not.

Jean: Have a nice weekend at the cabin and such. We are going to be a bit more busy than usual as we are supposed to go out to lunch with Kelly tomorrow, get the commissary shopping in sometime this weekend, and tomorrow night is Thomas's birthday dinner at Melting Pot. In between I need to get my downstairs cleaned. Oh congrats on the loss. I forgot to give you a big high 5!!! :carrot:

Nothing else is going on here today except knitting on the sock. You all have a grand weekend. Faye

It got up to 93ºs this day. I have everything done but the soldering to my latest house which is a school house. The building is a beige color with a green roof and bell tower. I made the front door in red and it is going to go together nicely. I made the front steps out of some motley colored bumpy glass which goes well with the beige and green in the rest of the building. I will get to soldering it all together tomorrow.

We went out to our favorite place that we get our gardening supplies. Will had yanked out some old bushes around here and we need to pick up the new ones so that they can get into the ground someday soon. Our little willow tree is looking so much better now that we cut off the wind whipped top section. It will grow up nicely now full and beautiful. On paper when we drew it up it looked real nice. Now we shall see once it is happening. We stopped for lunch on the way to the nursery at Sonic and I only ate ½ of my burger and tater tots and threw the rest out. We went on to the nursery and picked up a tree (I don’t remember it’s name) that in the spring is a beautiful shade of green then in the summer it turns a lovely shade of purple then in the winter before it loses it leaves turns yellow. We also got the edging for the walkway out to that tree and will get the benches later. After we returned the trailer to our friend we stopped in a yard sale and Will got a neat divided plastic box full of electrical connecters, etc for 3 bucks. Tomorrow is Farmers Market for us where I can pick up the home made soaps I want. :cp:

I know when we get there our piece of that ranch in Texas is going to look like an oasis after we fence in a yard and put down turf and plant the flowers along the fence that we have planned. Our friend out there just retied after many years with the fire department and doesn’t have a hobby. The one of the college kids that has graduated has came home but she does have a job and definitely is not a dead beat. She is saving up for a place of her own. Her older brother graduated a couple years back and is now a fireman and has his own place and her older sister is still in college going for her Masters then for her Doctorate for she plans to be a veterinarian.

There is a pizza place right smack near the college that we have heard that serves a wonderful pizza so that is what we had for dinner this day. Since I had such a light lunch I enjoyed a couple pieces this evening and it is the best ever in this town. :cp:

DONNA FAYE Thanks for starting a new thread. I hope you got what knitting done that you wanted to do this day.

JEAN I bet you will have a sigh of relief when all those funerals are done. How is the weather at the cabin ~ any cooler than at your house?

PS the web page has started putting words in color and underlining them twice and when you click on them . . . it takes you to information on the words you have typed.

Have a great Saturday Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Good Morning, Flowers! It is cooler and we've had a little rain this morning. I'm waiting to finish getting dressed for the funeral. We have another one at our church Monday, for a 50 year old teacher who dropped dead while fishing in the MN boundary waters with his kids. I don't think they are members but it will be huge and we have the space. I didn't know him since he taught at the middle school.

"Gma" -- I know you will enjoy your lunch with Kelly and the birthday dinner for Thomas. The Melting Pot sounds like an interesting place to eat. Commissary duty doesn't sound so fun.

Maggie -- It sounds like you have been busy. Wish I could see your glass village. I noticed the same thing with the underlined words on different web sites but it isn't consistent for me.

I need to double check my overnight bag and finish getting ready for the funeral. Have a nice weekend!

06-23-2012, 03:15 PM
Aternoon, girls! We got through the commissary to the tune of $337! (We buy for two weeks though and I always keep ahead with things like laundry soap, shampoo, tea bags, stuff like that so I replace when I use one up even though there might be another one in the cupboard. That way I never run out of something. It was pretty quiet there today for once, though there were things missing as usual. They tend to change brands or dump things all together all the time so you don't know if you will find your favorite or not every time you go.

Man oh man. Starting on Thursday, I started bleeding. It is not spotting, it is like a period. I know that when the other gyn put me on Premarin, it caused me to have heavy bleeding so she took me off it and this seems to be the same thing in reverse. I am off the hormones and it has started up. I just pray it works itself out and just stops somewhere down the line. What a darn mess this has become. I am pretty fed up dealing with the whole thing for sure.

We came home and put everything away then headed out to CVS to drop a couple of Jack's prescriptions off, I bought T his birthday card for tomorrow and then we went to Genghis Grill for lunch. It is a good thing I hate flaked coconut as they have this coconut and pineapple mini dessert that is absolutely spectacular. I don't know how many pts the darn thing would be as it is about as round as a soup can and about half as tall. It is layers of coconut, sponge cake, pineapple filling and marscapone. It is really really good. Jack gave me a bite without the coconut.

Jack is sound asleep in the recliner at the moment and I am doing laundry up. He has had a bit of a relapse on his cold and was chilled when we got home so I had him take a dose of nyquil, and got him a big thick comforter and he is sawing logs already with the dog asleep beside him.

Funny story about the dog. First off, I have told you before the lady next door cooks something that is seriously foul smelling and when she does it permeates my house for hours. Well, before we left for lunch, Jack had all the groceries dragged in and I was finishing up putting them away. He was in the recliner with the dog beside him and I had gone to the restroom. He yelled at me "What is that disgusting smell?" I said it wasn't me as I was just urinating and I didn't smell anything. I washed my hands and came into the kitchen, which is where you smell her nasty stuff and smelled something and all of a sudden Jack yelps the smell is awful. Come to find out, Fortune was butt end towards Jack's face in the recliner and was letting SBD's (silent but deadly's as we call them) I got to laughing so hard the tears ran down my face because I had been subjected to Fortune's gas on more than one occasion.

Maggie: I wish we had a good hometown pizza place here, but Jack likes the chains like Pizza Hut and Dominos. When we lived in South Bend there is this mom and pop place called Rossinis in this tiny, tiny hole in the wall building. It only does carry out and only from 4 PM to 11 PM Mon-Sat. They make the best pizza I have ever had anywhere. It is absolutely fabulous. We probably won't have dinner since we had lunch a bit later than usual. If we get hungry it will be a sandwich for us probably.

Jean: Kelly had to cancel until they get back from vacation. I tried to tell her I thought she had too much to do since they leave next Friday for Amsterdam. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant. I like it, but it is really expensive though. Thomas seems to love the place as we have had his birthday dinner there for at least the last 4 years. I thought we were going to go to the brazillian restaurant this time, but he opted for Melting Pot.

Well girls, off to knit on his sock. I am now at the heel so coming along. Have a lovely weekend. It is sunny and very, very hot and humid here today. Faye

Oh Magnolias this is one hot :flame: day for it is now 103ºs and the wind is blowing hot air for sure. We stopped by the Farmers Market and picked up some more bars of home-made soap from Simone and they are all different and look like works of art and I plastic wrapped (dust covers) them around but left the ends open so they can breathe and have them on a nice square alabaster tray. I have 5 in all that haven’t been used and they look so nice sitting in my bathroom. :cp: I am still using the bar I bought last summer to wash my hands. Guess it lasted so long because I also have a pump bottle of liquid dial by the sink. We just got back from her house where we went to deliver a glass gazebo to her and she gave us a partial tour of the place. It is huge with pictures on the wall of her ancestors for her family has been here in this area since dirt. We met her special needs son and Will gave her some helps on how to handle him since he used to be a Behavior Specialist he knows what he is talking about. We met her teen aged daughters and they seemed such nice gals. I think I will do some Christmas shopping from her shelves come the time to buy for the holidays. She has other bath products also and everyone needs to wash up don’t they; some more than others I might add. We picked up a fresh jar of local honey which I will be using in our daily drinks of honey and vinegar. Not much produce is out just yet but zucchini. I don’t know why they grow them so big. I prefer the smaller ones about an inch thick and these were at least 3 inches. Cucumbers were huge also and I prefer the smaller ones of them also. So we didn’t get any fresh greens this day.

I am going to solder my house together when I finish here while the animals are all snoozing. When I finish this school house I am going to make myself another gazebo since mine is gone now.

DONNA FAYE Looks like your system is being contrairy. :( I do so hope your doc can fix your up before your vacation. I think I would just tell them to yank the thing out and be done with it. :p But that's just me. :D I never even had a cramp so I don't have any room to talk do I. Still have all my parts except a gall bladder and a disk in my back that was removed. Looks like your knitting is coming along well now.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

06-24-2012, 05:08 PM

Oh Magnolias it is so hot here the birds have to use hot pads to get the worms out of the ground. :flame: 110ºs as I type and it isn’t even the hottest :flame: part of the day. We are definitely in a heat wave and it isn’t even August yet.

We went out to an Italian restaurant after church services this day and split an order of Fettuccini Alfredo with sausage. Half of a serving at that restaurant is plenty and oh so good. Lots of fresh greens tossed with only vinegar dressing and fresh baked rolls. Later meal this evening will be very light.

I am thinking about re-joining WW in June for I feel I need a shot in the arm of what goes on there to get me going again down to the road to thin. I am running out of steam doing this on my own. I will have to take a hit on my loss because I now weigh without my shoes on but I don’t take them off there. But I can handle that because our scales weigh the same.

I have three little blisters in the palm of my left hand where some hot solder got popped on it and it is fortunate that it didn’t hit where any crease is but on a flat part. It hurt like the dickens when it first happened until I got some aloe vera on it quickly and now have New Skin on the blisters and they don’t hurt anymore. I will just keep them covered with New Skin so they don’t get anything on them. A very hard place to keep a band aid on.

We have been discussing our plans of leaving here and have changed our minds do to some things we really want to do while here. First off Will really isn’t ready to retire and we don’t have to leave. We both like it here and can always visit our nice friends in Texas. After the Jeep is paid for we can get a small motor-home and take vacations from here. Suits me just fine for I was not looking to totally “downsize” again just yet. The time may come when we do ~ but it will be later than sooner. I kinda thought that Will would rethink wanting to retire just yet. Since I am not in a hurry to leave this area it suits me just fine.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

06-25-2012, 12:14 PM

Where is everyone? I feel abandoned . Ugh ~ it is fixin’ to get up to 105º this day and our thermometer in the patio will say it is hotter still. I am not a fan of such hot weather but can’t do anything about it so am not getting bummed about it. I took a shower when I first got up this morning and will just probably take another before this day is done. I may wear my skin out in the shower but at least I will feel nice and clean and smell good. Even after my shower the New Skin is still on my palm. I’ll peal it off and put on fresh though. The little blisters are flat now so it will heal fast. It doesn’t hurt and I won’t pick at it. I am rather excited about attending WW tonight and apprehensive at the same time. The meeting is at 7 pm so all meals will have been consumed so that will also be a difference for I will also be fully clothed and with shoes on for weigh in but so be it. I’ll not quibble about that and just take the weigh in number they give me and go down from there. Will has loaded money on my debit card today so I bought my WW pass on line and got my temporary one and will get the “real” one in the mail. Aren’t computers wonderful ~ that is when they are used properly and staying away from all the awful stuff that some folks engage in. So it looks like I will be going to WW tonight instead of waiting until the first Monday in July.

Cecil just let me know he wants to take a nap so I opened the bedroom door for him. Who has who trained I just might ask. I think he has me trained. The place where we got him has several Manx kittens to give away for I just received an e-mail about them. I will ask around to my friends to see if anyone wants one. There are some with tails, some without tails and some with stub tails ~ we don’t need another cat.

I got a gazebo cut out yesterday afternoon which I will finish up making today to replace the one that went to the “soap lady.” We just may have to put up more shelving because the ones are getting full now with the village buildings. I am thinking about making a Barber/Beauty shop next or maybe a Dry Goods/Hardware store. I have several others I want to make also. I’ll at least get a few more done before Christmas things need to be made. I’ll probably need to order some more glass.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It is sunny and breezy here this afternoon but is supposed to be HOT up into the 90s for the rest of the week. We need rain! I've been to church, then stopped to get the gift shop money, and made that deposit after lunch. They set up extra chairs planning for 500+ people to attend the funeral this morning. The funeral was at 10:30 and people were already coming when I left at 9. The family transferred to our church, from another local church a couple years ago, but had gone back to that church. The lunch was to be there and it is a much smaller church than ours so I don't know where they put people, or perhaps they thought they would lose some between churches.

"Gma" -- I'm like you and like to have things in reserve for when I run out. Bob, on the other hand, will let me know when he's used the last squirt of anything. :hyper: I hope Jack and you are both feeling better. I have to agree with Maggie in "yanking" the thing out to solve your problem. I had to  at your Fortune story. The grandkids all say, "who tooted?" Whatever cat lived here at the moment got blamed for the smell no matter who did it.

Maggie -- Please keep your hot weather! I hope you have a good leader when you go back to WW tonight. :crossed: If Will still enjoys his job and volunteer work, and you enjoy where you are, then you should definitely stay put for awhile longer. Cecil sure knows where he likes to take his nap. He is one of a kind that's for sure.

I need to work on the laundry piles since I didn't do any this weekend! One down and several to go. Have a great rest of the day and evening.

Good afternoon gals. I have been working on getting the house cleaned. It is slow going but I am getting there.

We had a nice time last night at Melting Pot. We did a two booth sitting area and Jack and I were at the booth next to everyone else. We ordered a 4 course deal and it was very tasty. The first course is cheese and we had a cheddar and other cheese combo with Sam Adams beer in it. they give you fresh veggies, bread cubes, and granny smith apples. Second course is salad and I just had their house salad and dressing and it was pretty good too. Our third course had bourginoine cooking type and we had a tray with shrimp, chicken, beef tenderloin, beef teriyaki, and memphis bbq beef. We also had two types of batter stuff, we liked the tempura batter and then we had teriyaki, plum sauce, gorgonzola, and a couple others sauces to eat them with. Lastly, was dessert and we had this dark chocolate with marshmallow cream mixed in with oreo cookie crumbs and it was lit on fire. You are given fresh fruit, marshmallows, cheesecake, pound cake to dip it in. Of course this is not diet friendly by any means, but it was his birthday. We just gave him money and he seemed ok with that for sure.

I am coming along on the sock for Jack, but I have to get the darn thing done. I need to get the brown ones down.

Maggie: It is super hot here too and you open the door and the heat just slams into you. Thomas said the pool is warming right up! Hope your fingers are better. I burned the tips of my fingers tonight pouring water into the skillet making rice a roni as the steam burned my finger tips. I didn't end up with blisters or anything so they are all ok.

Jean: Wow that was some funeral. Sounds like what we encountered when Kelly graduated from high school. Jack is coming along. I haven't heard him sniffling and he says he is feeling better. I keeping my fingers crossed that what is going on is that this is all just the lining all coming off and it will stop in a couple weeks. I guess all I can do is wait until I talk to her on Thursday. It makes it miserable in the meantime.

Well, I want to unload the dishwasher and then sit and knit. You all have a nice evening. Faye

06-26-2012, 12:06 AM

It has finally cooled down to 102ºs from a high of 118ºs this day. It sure never got this hot last year. Well gals I went to WW this evening and took a bit of a hit but feel fine with it. At least I am smaller than when I was last there and lost instead of gaining. We went out to Applebee’s for dinner and I had one of the WW entrees. Grilled chicken with melted Swiss cheese on top, lightly steamed fresh spinach and rice with onions and mushrooms. This last meal was after weigh in so starts the new week. The same leader was there but a whole lot nicer and had a cute pixy new hairdo that goes well with her features. Plus she was very friendly with me and asked how I made yogurt cheese which is like Greek yogurt that can be done at home easy enough. It can be used instead of mayo in lots of things such as potato salad. If there is a finicky eater that only “has to have mayo” ~ if you put a tad bit of mayo with the yogurt cheese it tastes like it is all mayo. I now have all the handouts to go through and plan my upcoming week. I got the shot in the arm that I have been needing for my program. I did finish the gazebo this afternoon and have it sitting next to the house it matches. Tomorrow I can start on another building.

JEAN Yep Cecil is one of a kind. He sure didn't like going outside this day and I didn't blame him one little bit. The dogs stayed inside where it is cool also except when they needed to go out. Neither of us will mind at all staying here at all. I am so glad that the WW leader has improved her attitude for it makes it more interesting to listen to her. Nice.

DONNA FAYE Your Melthing Pot excursion sounds yummy to the max. I am just glad that these little blisters are in the palm of my hand and not in any crease ~ just a flat spot so it doesn't keep being irritated. The New Skin keeps it from getting any germs in it. Yep that hot steam coming off a pot can burn you good if you don't watch out. I like Rice a Roni and haven't had any in a long time. I will put that on the shopping list. We once knew a young married couple that said that they lived on Rice a Roni because they had a tight budget.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Good morning, ladies! It's only 69 degrees right now.

We've been having terrible storms for the last 4 days but yesterday's was the worst. We had hail the size of marbles, trees and electric lines down, and flooding. It was 94 degrees and an hour later it was 74 degrees. A cold front followed the storm and made it worse.

The quilt show on Saturday was lovely. I love seeing what everyone is doing.

The cap came off my front tooth again yesterday (after having it put back on 3 weeks before) so tomorrow I'll be having a root canal and a pin put in and then the crown will be reworked to fit the pin. My old tooth had broken and there just wasn't much to work with. The dentist's office was very nice to move around appointments to get me in tomorrow. It's a very busy practice but I've gone to him since he graduated dental school 24 years ago.

Faye that Melting Pot meal sounded delicious but would probably be all my points for the day and the weeklies, too. I hope you get over this problem soon. I'd be in there demanding a hysterectomy. The grandsons are growing up so fast!

Jean, that was certainly a huge funeral! I hope you don't have to go to any more for awhile.

Maggie, I'm sure Will's parishoners will be glad you are staying longer. It's good you like small town living. I always thought I would since it was a small town most of my aunts and uncles lived in.

Have a wonderful day!

06-26-2012, 01:24 PM

It is 9:30 am it is :sunny: and currently only 77ºs but will no doubt get up to the forecast of 112º or beyond this day. It is a good day to stay inside. I am currently enjoying my coffee this morning. I woke up with a charley horse in my “good” leg this day and boy did it hurt.

Will is watering the lawn early this day so it doesn’t cook. The tree we planted looks like it will survive quite well for it is doing very well. It is hard in this weather to keep the yard looking good. The apple tree we planted is doing well and the existing apple tree has lots of apples on it. When they get ripe I will be doing a lot of drying them for future use. They reconstitute quite well for different dishes or just eating them like they are when dried.

I am going to decide when I get off here what house I am going to build now depending what glass colors that will fit with what I choose. One more house and the shelves are both full so we need to put some more shelving up. I am going to look for a small train and a few lengths of track to put in front of the train station I will make. Just a small little train with a few cars will do.

Last evening at WW we were talking about Fair Food and had a little quiz on what points+ values were for each item. The Funnel Cake got most of the attention. I must admit I have never had one so I didn’t understand the vast appreciation of them at being 27 points+ each. I looked in my recipes and found that I have one that has a points+ value of 11. But have never made them because that points + value seemed high to me. That list will come in handy for those who attend the Fair this year and partake of the goodies to know what they are consuming in points+. I remember that my sister made funnel pancakes once when we were at the cabin when her kids were little, but they were just pancakes and not the whopping points+ value of the deep fried funnel cakes. I will no doubt finish out my life without ever having one at the Fair.

SUSAN We have just been hot :flame: without any rain which we would love to have. Sounds like your area is getting hammered. Isn't it nice to have the same dentist for so long and they will get you all fixed up soon. I really like the folks here in this area for they are friendly and have time to stop and talk for they aren't in a rush. Your quilt show sounds so nice. Isn't it just wonderful to see other ladies work displayed. Artwork is what it is. Eye candy.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Good morning to you all. Like everyone else, it is hot as blue blazes here too. It makes it so miserable to even go out to run errands and such. I finished the downstairs so will tackle the upstairs again starting tomorrow. I have my gyn dr appt on Thursday, plus Fortune going to the groomers and picking up Marty in the afternoon. I have to pick up all my throw rugs, my trash can and clean out my bottom open pantry area as Marty pees on my rugs, tips over the trash can and gets in it and goes after the chip and crackers in the pantry opening. No bother, I just find it funny how different animals are. Fortune drives them nuts because he is hugely clingy always wanting to sit in your lap or right up next to you, which drives Kelly bonkers. Their trash is one of those pull out drawers and part of their cabinets and their pantry area is also part of their cabinets. She doesn't have throw rugs and they have laminate and tile flooring.

I am almost halfway down the foot now. I really need to knit more, but lately I have been just sitting like a blob. I am not opposed to the hysterectomy, but I have had 3 abdominal surgeries in about 5 years and to go through another one really stresses me out. I am just hoping all this stuff is just that lining coming off all at once. I guess I will find out something on Thursday.

Jack gets to order his tuxedo online today so that is one more thing for the cruise we can cross off. He was going to take two of his suits, then we talked about it and he really wanted to wear a tux. The ship rents you one for the whole week with shoes if you want and two tuxedo shirts, tie and such. It makes it one less thing we have to pack. I am expecting the tap strip to come in today. They aren't allowed on board per se, but this one has three outlets plus two usb ports and plugs in directly to a standard outlet. It doesn't have a cord and is about the size of a cell phone in length so Jack is just going to bring it onboard in his pocket. You would think they would provide more electrical outlets then they do in the cabins. There are lists of things not allowed on board, but actually this isn't on the list, we were just told by Kelly and Tom they tell you not to use them if they catch you. We plan on charging stuff up at night, then unplugging it and stowing it in our luggage during the daytime. It isn't like we are going to blow the ship up with the thing.

Maggie: Your weather is even hotter than ours is, but the humidity here is what really gets to you. I always loved funnel cakes at the fair, but they didn't have them when I was growing up. I didn't have one until I was an adult. We don't go to the fairs anymore. I hate dealing with the crowds. We don't go to the firewords here either for the same reason.

Susan: Darn, it is too bad about your tooth. Hope they can get it permanently attached this time. You are dead on right about Melting Pot. That's why we only go there when T has his birthday dinner there. Jack watches east coast weather because of the cruise and such. I am a nervous wreck about a tropical storm or hurricane developing around our sailing date. We didn't purchase the insurance stuff as it is so expensive so if they don't sail we lose the whole shebang, but that's the way it goes I guess.

Well girls, I need to go. I want to find a bite of lunch and then knit for awhile. I have laundry to fold and such too. Have a nice Tuesday. Faye

06-27-2012, 01:22 PM

It is 10:30 am here and already 100ºs and they say it will get up to 113ºs this day. But it will cool down tomorrow ~ yep ~ down to a high of 110. I sure miss the cool sea breezes out west during the early hours of summertime which I grew up with. School would be out and I would be surfin’ & having fun in the sun. AH but now I am older and live in the beautiful ♥-Land of this country and am happy to be here. I think today we will go to the market and get a nice seedless round watermelon and get it in the fridge to chill so to have it for after dinner this day. This month is winding down quickly for in just a few days it will be July ~ then the 4th will be here before we know it. I found out something interesting ~ there is a company that makes reusable canning lids. I am going to have to find out more about them for I think it is a terrific idea. I sure hope our apples are surviving this heat for I don’t want them to baked on the tree but they aren’t quite ready to pick yet.

The animals sure don’t want to be outside these days. When we go somewhere Beanie always welcomes us home at the gate and he still does so in this heat. What a little camper. Ragg Mopp doesn’t come out of the house and I don’t begrudge him for staying in where it is cool. Beanie just has an exuberant way to show his love for his people. He is a much younger dog than Ragg Mopp though. Right now Cecil is in Will’s office up on his desk holding down the book he is reading. He lays right across it. Guess he doesn’t want it to land on the floor like most things he plays with. He is such a cat.

We are having hot dogs for lunch and I don’t as of yet have a clue what I will fix for dinner. I can go shopping in the freezers and come up with something that will be program friendly I am sure. Whatever it is will have time to thaw by dinner time. I have lots of fresh greens and tomatoes for a salad.

DONNA FAYE I think it is wonderful that you do baby sit Marty and deal nicely with his habits. Pets are precious. When my nieces and nephews were young when we were all up at the cabin high in the Sierras, my sister would make them funnel pancakes which were fun. But never  did we have any deep fried funnel cakes. What day is it that is your departure day to go catch the boat for your upcoming cruise? I wish for you fair weather and smooth sailing.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Morning gals. I have the ac off and just the fans on this morning so far. If I can save a few bucks, I am going to do it. Besides, I have had chills on and off this AM so don't need it on at the moment anyway.

I got a call from Kelly last night. Marty is very, very sick. She was going out and getting some stuff to give to him, but she called this morning and said he was at the vets because it was a rough night last night. He hasn't eaten in 5 days now, has diahrrea and I guess Tom found him under their pool deckhouse deck yesterday, which he has never gone under there. Jack says he is afraid Marty went there to die. I guess Jack had two dogs do that when he was a kid. Marty is very old, but all of this couldn't come at a worse time. They leave on Friday evening and there is no canceling this trip without losing thousands of dollars, besides their staying here won't make him better if he can't get better. If he can get better, we will just care for him and try to get him better while they are gone. I haven't heard back from her, but I seriously doubt the news will be good. He has a bad heart and not eating and having the diahrrea has to be a real drain on it. I feel so sorry for the family and for little Marty. I sat last night crying and praying for him that God would just let him go to sleep and not wake if he can't get better. Boy having pets is really tough, even ones that aren't yours.

Tomorrow is grooming day for Fortune and dr day for me. Hopefully, I can get some positive and not negative answers to what is going on with me. I think I am going to google some stuff and see if I can find any info on it myself.

You all have a great middle of the week. I will talk with you later. Faye

I just got a call from Kelly. They are going to let Marty come home tonight, then tomorrow they are going to put him to sleep. :(:cry::cry: Please say a prayer for them and especially Thomas. It is gonna be real tough on him. I told her we would come over tomorrow after Jack gets off work and go swimming with him for awhile as he will be alone at the house. Kinda tough on the granddoggy's grandma too! Poor little guy.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It is a hot one in my neighborhood this afternoon -- 94, "feels like 98," and no wind. I had planned to be at church to help with the newsletter this afternoon, but part of it wasn't done so will go in the morning. I was out and about early to get my nails done and pick up a few groceries. Ian's team won last night and will play again tonight but we aren't going. We didn't get home until midnight last night and tonights game is again at 7:30. If they win tonight will play a double header which they've never done before.

"Gma" -- Your Melting Pot dinner sounds delicious! :T The church custodian set up chairs in our fellowship hall with the screen for viewing the funeral service. The count was over 600! I found out that the guy had taught at the Catholic school, worked at the college, taught in a small neighboring town, and then here for the last few years. He was an all around nice guy and a favorite of the studnets. His wife is a local gal but I just know her family name, not her. I didn't know him so didn't go to the funeral. I read somewhere that some hysterectomies can be done vaginally if it just involves the uterus. I'm so sorry about Marty! I could  right along with you.

Maggie -- Welcome aboard the WW bandwagon! :cp: It's definitely a healthy eating plan, but I wish the whole process wasn't such a hard challenge. I've never had a funnel cake but know they are very popular at the Iowa State Fair and Clay County Fair in Spencer.

Susan -- It sure sounds like this is going to be a summer of unusual weather all around the U. S. So far we aren't getting smoke from the CO fire but we have in the past. I hope you didn't have any damage from the hail. I'm sorry about your tooth! How frustrating for you. :hyper: What is the difference between a cap and a crown? As a kid, I had a classmate who had a silver cap on a front tooth. I've had crowns put on but never hear about caps any more.

I'm working on my laundry and have some mending to do on a couple sundresses for Maddie. Someone made them for her and did a sloppy job of sewing  so the seams and trim are coming apart. Hope you all are enjoying a nice day wherever you are!

It is currently 114º and the time is just after 6PM. What plants we had going are goners now even with watering they just couldn’t make it. It has just been too hot and with the wind it sucks every bit of moisture out of plants. No harvesting any nice veggies anytime this year. I haven’t been out to the apple tree to check on the apples but am hopeful they will be alright.

I started cutting out a building today and discovered I don’t have any glass straws to cut to use for the barber poll. Couldn’t even get a glass medicine dropper for they are all plastic around here. AH but when looking up glass straws on the internet I was delighted to find lots and lots of web sites selling them ~ eco friendly made them so popular. I am going to order some made by Pyrex for they come with a fabulous guarantee. I plan on ordering more than just one so I will have one to use with my drinks. I can get a set of four for $25.00. What is really neat is that you can get different sizes in lengths and big around. I can go ahead and build the building now for the barber pole is the last thing to solder on the front. I have the paints to stripe it round and round red and white.

DONNA FAYE I am so sorry to hear about little Marty. I’m sure your grandson will miss him dearly. Comfort him as you know how.

JEAN Thats a lot of folks to show up for a funeral. I bet parking was somehting to behold. Thanks for the welcome back. I am hoping to do well this trip through the program. I did just OK on line but better when I attend meetings.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Ok, I have had it! I am done messing around with this female crap. I was sitting with Jack after dinner tonight watching tv and I coughed and felt this whooshing and coughed again and felt more whooshing. I had an old bath towel close by and took it and went loping to the bathroom. What a mess!! I had blood and clots everywhere some as big as the lids of tin cans. Tomorrow she either gives me good news or I am telling her to schedule surgery asap. I am not going on a cruise and have something like this happen period.

Today was a stinky day all the way around I think. This female mess, my poor little Marty, my kids grieving over what they have to do tomorrow, Jack pulled something in his back so is gimping around. I just want to put this in the "don't give me another day like this" toilet and flush it.

It is 9:30 and 89.6ºs here in the ♥-Land and fixin’ to get up to at least 113ºs before it is all said and done. We are definitely in a heat wave, wouldn’t you agree. I certainly don’t have any plans to be outside this day. Will is going to the museum and I am going to work on my glass house but first I need to clean up the kitchen. Also I do need to decide what I am going to cook for dinner this day. I know I have a bunch of fresh greens for a salad and that is as far as I have gotten. We bought a seedless watermelon that had double amount of black seeds in it. Wonder what happened there. The label stuck to it said it was seedless and it was grown in this country. I don’t like it when every bite has a seed in it but it was good none the less. Nice and red and sweet and cold.

DONNA FAYE  Seems like you have only gotten worse since they gave you those meds to take for your problem. Get this all over with ASAP so you can get this all behind you and have a wonderful vacation.

PS: Just back to tell you ~ Schwan's has a great breakfast sandwich called "Bright Starts Live Smart English Muffin Sandwich", and they make this lightened version with turkey sausage, scrambled egg whites & light pasturerized american cheese all for 6 points+. It really tastes good and is filling. I just ate one and will be fine till dinnertime now. They also make a version with the more spendy ingredients for 12 points+ if you prefer.

Hello girls! Back from the doctor's office and the hospital. Here's the scoop. She is leery to a vagina hysterectomy because if she gets in there and cuts and my colon is attached to the uterus, which she says is very likely with what my surgical situations are, then I would have an ostomy bag the rest of my life. She says because I have had surgery so recently, she does not recommend cutting and even then with so many previous surgeries my healing time would be long. She said all the stuff going on with me is all about the endometrial lining. She allowed me to make the decision about what I wanted to do, hysterectomy, or going in, doing a d and c, biopsy and more meds or she wants to try to do the ablation again and see if it would work this time. So, Monday morning bright and early, I go to the hospital and get it all done. She said this is "old school" but works pretty well. It involves going back and forth to the hospital every few months until the problem is cleared up though, but if it works and they aren't cutting on me, I am ok with that. She said if they can do the ablation, I may not need the meds at all, if she finds that there has been improvement she will lower the meds dosage and if she needs to keep it the same she will include something similar to Imodium AD to help with the diahrrea. What happens is every time we go in for a d and c, she will check to see how the uterus is sloughing off the lining until she feels we are at the point where I would have no more trouble. If she can do the ablation, the lining will be burned off all at once so it won't be an issue one way or another. Anyhow, this gives me something to at least get through the cruise without the bleeding issue then I can decide how I want to go forward.

Fortune is at the vets being groomed and I have to go get Jack in about an hour. I didn't sleep last night worrying about Marty and the kids. I guess Tom took it extremely hard so much so he stayed home from work today so Thomas has someone home with him all day. So, we won't be going over there this afternoon. I don't want to embarrass Tom by going over there and he being really upset. He isn't one of those weepy kind of guys normally so he really took it hard.

Hope you all had a nice day today and I will talk to you more tomorrow. Faye

Well I got my building all cut out and next is to grind the edges smooth. It is a dry goods store with a barber shop on one end and a beauty shop on the other ~ 3 in one, so to speak ~ a mini strip maul. The two on each end have sloping roofs from the peek on the middle store. The roof comes down and then out to cover the smaller shops. I did get my house work done before I tackeled my glass today so I can now work on dinner a bit later. Will wants mac and cheese with some burger in it so that is what I will make and a huge green salad. I can fit that nicely into my daily points+. Sounds

DONNA FAYE Sounds like quite a process you will be going through and I certainly hope it works this time. You and your doc can decide on your plans on how to combat this ongoing trouble you are having. Why did they attach a colon to a uterus which may someday need to be taken out. I don’t understand it. And did the attaching of it somehow cause the uterus act up.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Good Evening. Flowers! I was seriously thinking about going to bed and realized I hadn't posted today even though I did visit this morning. I thought I had more time before leaving for church and realized it was garbage day so had to play round up and clean out Ernie's boxes. It was another hot one today, the temperature wasn't as high but the humidity was higher according to the weatherman. We are supposed to have a thunderstorm tonight. This afternoon I met another retired teacher for pie and iced tea. We managed to talk away 2 hours in the restaurant when we could smell food cooking and realized it was almost supper time; people were beginning to come in to eat. :o There was no one there when we went in.

Maggie -- You are definitely havong hotter days than I am. I'm sorry about losing your garden produce again this year. :( We didn't even have a breeze today and that's very unusual for us. I usually buy melons that have been cut in half so I can see the innards. Last year I got stung on whole cantaloupes that had no taste whatsoever. Your mini strip mall sounds cute. You are busy!

"Gma" -- I'm glad you were able to visit with your doctor and she gave you some options. I hope it all works out for you and asap. As hard as it would be, I think I would have left Marty at the vets office yesterday. We brought "Mom" home and I'll never do that again. Each time our vet has reminded us that we have given our pet a loving home and they've had a good life. When they can't have a quality life it is better to let them go rather than let them linger and possibly suffer. I just feel so bad for your family.

I am going to head for bed and read for a bit. I don't have to be anywhere tomorrow and Bob is playing in a golf tournament so I will be home alone. On second thought, I do need to think about food for the 4th and maybe make a grocery run. See you all tomorrow!

06-29-2012, 10:44 AM
Good morning girls. Have mercy it is awful outside this morning. I got up at 3 AM and you could hardly breathe it was so sticky. We were at alert purple a couple days ago and have been air alert orange for days now. Susan, this would not be the place for you to live, for sure as you wouldn't ever be able to leave the house!

Poor Jack is now having to get up at 4 AM and go to work as they are working early hours because of the heat. Frankly, what does it matter as it is already miserable when he leaves at 5 AM, but then it really does. Yesterday and today the poor man has to work out in the middle of a sewage lake repairing electricals on a piece of equipment. If you think it is miserable working on something on land, this is torture. They stand on these flat bottom boats to work rocking back and forth. It is terrifying for me as falling in could be catastrophic for anyone. Disgusting too. He would be like that woman in Silkwood, where they strip you and shower you, then they fill you with tons of antibiotics and stuff.

I am trying to catch up on laundry today. Since I am having surgery on Monday no pain relief meds that thin the blood and I was in agony all day and all evening. I was crying the whole evening from the pain. I had two heating pads on my front area and put Icy Hot along my back and upper tushy. I finally googled what could I take and they said I could take Tylenol for the pain and I happened to have a bottle upstair. I slammed back 4 of those things and 2 Benadryl to knock me out and about 2 hours later I wasn't totally out of pain but it was dull enough to fall asleep from the Benadryl and I did sleep all night. I took some at 3 AM when I got up to let out Fortune, not because I was in pain, but to keep the pain from starting. I am ok at the moment, but I think yesterday it got so bad because I had walk all over the dr's office and parking lot there, then drive to the hospital and since it was around 10 AM parking was way far away and it is uphill. I then walked all over the hospital for the different tests and such and walking always makes my cramps worse instead of better so by the time I got all finished at noon I was a mess and never got better. I pretty much wasted money going out to dinner, but I just couldn't eat for the pain. Jack was beside himself. He kept saying, "oh honey I am so sorry." So at least this thing Monday, no matter what they do will relieve all that again. Now that she will give me something to keep the diahrrea from happening, I should be ok.

Maggie: Boy, guess I messed up that explanation. I don't exactly know why because I didn't really asked her, but as she explained showing me on her body, your bladder is in the front, then your uterus sits behind it and your colon behind it. She said the peritonitus really would have caused the problem for the colon to adhere itself to my uterus and for every surgery I had that involved the colon, the more likely the colon would "stick" to my uterus. So, it wasn't the doctors, but ME that did the sticking. You were right though, I would think that anything to do with the colon like the diahrrea and pain and stuff when walking like I have, could be the result of the two of them sticking together however they do that. She said the problem was going into the uterus through the vagina to do the hysterectomy she would NOT have a 360 degree ability to see what was behind the uterus like you would if you cut a person open and so she wouldn't know until it was too late that she had cut into the colon. I would definitely rather put up with the nuisance of the drug and such then have that happen for sure. It was sinful, but I had the mac and cheese at Ruby Tuesdays last night. It was the one thing I did eat and theirs is beyond yummy. Hope you enjoyed yours. Even though it is hot, we are having turkey roast for dinner tonight. Sounds like you are on your way with the building.

Jean: I am a definite pie lover, cherry being my favorite, but I hate most restaurant pie crusts. They are way too thick and always taste like saw dust to me. The kids can now focus on leaving on their vacation tonight and having the time of their life, though I don't think hiking up a mountain is my idea of time of your life! Maybe sitting by the pool and reading or knitting, but not hiking up Kilimanjaro.

I guess I should go. I think the washer is done so I can get them in the dryer. I have some clothing I have to bleach and I always run the load twice to make sure there is no bleach residue for regular clothes so it will take awhile. Have a great weekend!!! Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! A thunderstorm just went through the area with some much needed rain. Beth is at the cabin and expecting some of Will's family for the weekend. It's supposed to be sunny and hot this afternoon so I expect Bobs golf tournament will go on as planned at noon. I need to work on Maddies sundresses and am dreading that big time.

"Gma" -- I feel sorry for Jack working in the conditions that he does. Not fun I'm sure. I hope the Tylenol will help until you have the surgery. Will that be a same day procedure? I can't remember if you said. I hope Kelly and family have a wonderful time on their vacation. I'm with you and sitting by the water with a book.

I need to get busy and accomplish something today! :crossed: Hope you all have a great day and enjoy!

06-29-2012, 08:24 PM

It is another hot day here in the ♥-Land. Currently at this hour of 4 PM it is 103º’s. Not as hot as yesterday for sure. We went out to lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant and I had 2 shredded beef tacos (brought one home) and some rice with a few chips to dip in the :hot: sauce. I can handle those points.

I needed a little length of glass straw for the barber pole on my house and checked on the web for glass straws. There are many places to get them now because of folks being eco friendly. I ended up ordering a “sample pack” that has 5 straws in various lengths in it ~ in length inches – 4, 6, 8, 10, & 12. Can you imagine a 12 inch long straw? That would take a tall drink. I can cut about an inch off of that one for my barber pole. Or keep it for giggles and use the 4 inch one to cut for the pole. They sell the 4 inch ones for kids to use. I thought I could find uses for the different sizes and didn’t want to buy a set of 6 of the same length since I am the only one in this house that uses straws. It will be fun to have a straw that fits the container best that I am drinking a cold drink from.

DONNA FAYE Sounds like you have it all settled in your mind what path to treatment you will be taking. I wish you success in this indeavor. Poor Jack having to work out in that cess pool. YUCK ~ I can just imagine the oder. I bet the shower feels so good to him after work.

JEAN What is it that you are doing to Maddies sundresses? Hope whatever it was went better than you may have thought.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~

Good Morning, Flowers! It's a beautiful sunny, no wind, and cool morning in my corner of the world. It's supposed to be back in the 90s for the next few days. The rain yesterday cooled everything off so the windows were open last night and I slept all night :cheer: which is very rare for me. Bob just left to check in at the office and then head for his Saturday morning coffee group. I've got the washer and dishwasher doing their work. I never did vacuum yesterday so will do that today.

Maggie -- I hope it is cooler in KS today! The shoulder seam on one dress came completely apart; I don't know if the gal used a chain stitch or what, but there is a facing and zipper so I don't want to take all that apart to get to the shoulder. The other sundress has bias tape aroound the hem and neckline. There is one place on the hem where the fabric didn't get caught in the tape or else raveled in the wash so left a 4" hole. I hate having to mend anything :hyper: but Maddie only wore each dress once. The bias tape one will soon be too short but the other one could be worn when school starts in the fall.

I can hear the dryer buzzing so time to change laundry loads. Hope you all enjoy your day today!

06-30-2012, 06:53 PM

It has been a cooler day in the 100’s and currently at 4:30 it is 106ºs. Cooler but still :flame: hot. Went out to the farmers market and not many farmers have brought their veggies yet. Picked up a couple of garlic bulbs from a guy and a wooden soap bar holder from my friend. It is made of wood and is 2 & 3/8ths inch wide by 3 & 9/8ths inch long and 6/8ths inch thick. The top has 4 grooves cut lengthwise not quite all the way through where the bottom has 2 cross cuts that are cut flush up to the upper cuts so it is a soap drainer hand made in the Smokey Hills of this state. I have it with my hand made bars of soap. :cp:

I have not done much this day but laze around and it sure has felt good. Not much going on today to yack about.

JEAN If I lived closer to you I would certainly love to do that mending for you. I learned to sew early in life and always loved it. Do the best you can and I am sure it will look fine.

Good morning gals. I have had a really really tough time the last couple days so didn't even get in here yesterday. I never even left the house it was back and forth to the bathroom. I actually am looking forward to tomorrow and get this over with again.

I finished Jack's green socks and started his brown ones as well as put the sleeves on the needles for my sweater so I can go back and forth and not get bored.

Jean: Sounds like you are basically remaking a poorly put together dress. I don't sew, but even I know what is and is not correct. I am going to have to go out and buy Jack another pair of shorts for vacation because the white ones have a zipper that won't stay up and I can't put a zipper in, for one thing I don't have a sewing machines. I can hand sew in a zipper as I put one in a sweater I made for Jackson, but machine sewing is beyond me pretty much so good luck with them.

Maggie: I guess I am behind the times, but I didn't know they even made glass straws! Glad you were able to find what you needed. The internet can be a magical thing anymore. You can find anything pretty much.

It is sunny and very hot here today. Our utility bill is going to be horrible, but it gets so hot in the house. I told Jack we are going to have to buy two more AC units if we are going to have weather like this because other parts of the house are staying hot, which keeps the cooler part of the house, hotter than it should be.

Well girls, have a great day. I don't know when I will get in here. Have to be at the hospital at 7 AM tomorrow and it can take most of the morning then sit around until they release you. Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! It's warming up and the air conditioner is humming away. I feel so sorry for the people in the east w/o electricity, and the CO fire victims. So sad! We've been to church, and afterwards thought I should have remembered what it would be like . . . too long. The Bible school kids "presented" and were not prepared so were pretty pathetic. It was communion Sunday so that always adds to the mix-up because none of the ushers are on the same page to get people going in the same direction. One poor guy can never remember where he was sitting so will wander until someone gets him. His wife wasn't with him this morning and he really shouldn't be out alone. The sermon was the same length as always so we were late getting out. Since we didn't have to be anywhere by a certain time it didn't really matter. Guess I'm too set in my ways and like the same organization every Sunday. :o To top it off the custodian was nowhere to be found and the automatic door wouldn't open, the floor mats were every which way but straight, and the outside doors were full of fingerprints on the glass. I know complain, complain, complain.

Maggie -- I know how to sew and have done my share of mending, I just don't like to do it and put it off. I'm going to use my machine so know it won't take long, it's just doing it. My mom was a perfectionist when it came to sewing so I always compare my end product to what hers would have looked like. :hyper:

"Gma" -- It's good to see you today and hope today is going better than yesterday for you. Jack's socks are a hoot! Our team colors are green and white so he would be a hit here. I have taken items to the cleaners to be mended -- namely new elastic in my winter jacket sleeves. I know they also do zippers and hems so if you have one close by, call and ask. Good luck tomorrow!

Bob is going to grill steaks for dinner and I'm putting together a salad so better get a move on. Hope you are keeping cool and enjoying the day!

Do you realize this is the first day of a new month. Yep ~ July First. A good day to set new goals. It has cooled off to 103ºs today and the weeks forecast is all about the same but up a couple degrees. We actually got a thunderstorm which dripped just a tad bit of moisture when it went through last evening. Sure rumbled loudly but didn't produce much of anything but noise.

We had pot-luck after services today followed by a baby shower. This was their 3rd baby shower and they have gotten some real nice things. In the food line I was so proud of myself but didn’t make a big deal about it for I just filled my plate with a piece of white meat chicken which I took the skin off of and one meatball ~ filling the rest of my plate with fruit that didn’t have any dressing of any sort put on it and fresh cut up veggies such as celery, baby carrots, little tomatoes, & mushrooms. The fruit consisted of blackberries, strawberries, kiwi, grapes, pineapple ~ oh so fresh and ripe and yummy. I also didn’t have any dessert of any sort pass these lips. Nada. I figure I spent only 7 points+ today for lunch and didn’t even miss eating all those yummy ooey goey looking things on the food table. Will passed up dessert also which did pleasantly surprise me which shows me he is really trying to lose. I didn’t care what others were eating just trying to be OP myself.

Will has gone to take a fellow to pick up his vehicle which broke down in a neighboring town and now has been fixed. When he gets back we are going to get coffee and I can be sipping on my sf ff latte while we are out and about the country. I have changed out of my church clothes into more comfortable and cooler attire.

DONNA FAYE Those are nice looking colorful socks. Your husband will have happy feet when wearing them. I find it interesting that you two are getting new things for your vacation. We have gone places so much that we just pack what we have and off we go. I guess we just don't go to the places that what we have isn't suitable. :p We have attire to wear that we can smooze with the best of them.:D You can save the outfits you have gotten for this outing for the next one and be money ahead. For who would remember what you wore before. It is fun to get new outfits isn't it.

JEAN OH those poor folks that have lost everything. Some of the stuff lost is just stuff but the personal papers and pictures and family treasures saved through the years are the worst part to lose. My heart goes out to them having to start all over. Everything wiped out would be a hard pill to swallow. It would certainly be difficult to get back to exact. Re sewing: Isn't that the way of it that you do it regardless of wheather you like to or not ~ like dishes. I hate doing dishes and love my dishwasher but there is always some hand washing to do which ~ I don't like doing. I love the cooking part of meals but not the clean up part but do it regardless.

I hope all is well with you Magnolias ~ type at y’all later ~
