I've had this DVD for a while and started it several times but never have been able to finish it. I am going to begin it again tonight. I plan to stick with it all the way this time and make it through the full 30 days!

Is there anyone else out here who has this that wants to start it with me? All are welcome! Let's shred those pounds away!!!!!

I just realized that there's a "fitness videos" section of the forum. Can one of the mods please move this thread there?

Thanks! :)

It's tempting. I have the DVD, but like yours, it's not getting a lot of use.

I've never understood completely how to do the 30 Day Shred. How many of the workouts do you do daily? Maybe the DVD explains that, but obviously I was not paying attention when I first watched it!

For the shred, there are 3 work outs, for 3 levels. Level 1 is easiest, level 3 is hardest. You start with level 1, most people do level 1for 10 days, then graduate to level 2for 10 days, then level 3 for the last 10 days. HOWEVER, if you do level 1 for 10 days and don't fill comfortable moving on, then stay with that level, but honestly, after day 5... it's like a breeze. Day 1 and 2 suck the most on each level, and I personally think level 3 is easier than level 2.

ANYWAY

I'd love to do this, last year I lost 9 inches on the waist in 30 days. Calorie counting on myfitnesspal was involved and a bit of biking as well, but, the next month I didn't do the shred and the results just seemed less. This is a GREAT work out as it's only 25 minutes so I can convince myself to hold off on bed for a bit to just do it!

Hi folks! Welcome! :)

Kurisitaru, you made it for the full 30 days? Awesome! I WILL do that this time! :)

kurisitaru
06-17-2012, 03:34 PM
The full 30 days was hard. After 5 days going, it was easier to say "I WON'T GIVE UP!" because you had all ready dedicated almost a week to it. After getting threw level 2, level 3 is a breeze and you just tell yourself 10 more days... 9 more days... and surprisingly, even when I hit day 30, I may have done level 1 for another few days before school started.

I actually did 30 Day Shred for 90 days. I spent a full month on level 1 alone, see avatar for results. I'm now on her Ripped In 30 DVD. ;)

Wow, I;m SO out of shape. Last year when I started the shred I was 10lbs lighter and had been biking more. Today I almost DIED! I also felt like I needed to vomit and that has never happened before.

1 day down... 29 to go... I WILL make it!

Thanks for answering my question Kurisitaru. I will commit to the 20 minute workout (I was fearing that it was all three at once!). Not that it will be easy, but 60 minutes would be a definite no way from me! I'm trying to give up napping while my son naps so I can get my nighttime sleeping back to normal human hours. Right now I'm in a bad cycle of staying up until 2am, which makes me tired the next day, which makes me fall asleep during the day, which makes me not able to get to sleep at night, etc. Having a commitment during my son's nap will help! I'll start the 30 day shred tomorrow, but may be skipping Saturdays due to working a physical job all day those days.

Today was Day 1 for me. The arm stuff was a big challenge. I was trying to use 5lb weights, but I'll need to find something lighter for tomorrow. Hopefully, something along the lines of cans or water bottles will work. Although today wasn't too bad, I'm sure it's going to get even tougher as the week goes on. I know I'll feel super accomplished when I get through it, though!

I have to use 3lb weights... I'm weak like that. But... that's what Jillian uses.. right?

ANYWAY
I woke up super sick this morning, couldn't hold anything down. I have no idea what hit me. Seems like a hangover, but I didn't drink anything! To top it off, my cat brought in a bird and plopped him on my belly. The bird is still alive! Just bleeding and so stunned. I put him in a box and called a rehab center for birds.... but I don't have a car and don't know how to get him down there. =/ Looked at buses and they are intense! I have a friend that can give me a ride... tomorrow... when they are open again. They also want a "recommended donation of$40" and I'm FLAT broke right now.
I'm hoping he's ok by tomorrow... and I might not donate... does that make me a horrid person?
Maybe later in the year I can do some donations...

Level 1, day 2, done. It wasn't quite as bad as yesterday; I didn't feel like I was going to vomit by the end. Now I'm drinking some water and I've taken some ibuprofen since I was having a bit of trouble with stairs today. ;)

I don't think so. You are trying to do a good thing and it is a recommended donation rather than a fee after all.

I can't find my DVD of this anywhere. I moved right after I bought it so I wonder if it got lost during the move. I am going to buy a new copy when I get paid. You guys are doing great.

I finished Day 2 today. It was both easier and harder than yesterday, but I'm not sure how to explain that. I used water bottles for weights today which was perfect for the 2 or 3 arm exercises that were too hard for me. I think I will stick to the 5lb for the chest fly, which was far less of a challenge.

Keep it up everyone!

Just completed L1, D1. It's actually not that bad. Of course I'm comparing it to Slim in 6 from beachbody.com level 2 or 3. Those workouts were bad@ss, and they also increased in the length of time, working up to over an hour workout time! I just do NOT have the time for that! So this shred wrkout is perfect time-wise. I am sweaty and short of breath, but I feel great! I'll probably be wicked sore tomorrow though!

Hi Jenjen. You are definitely welcome. Looks like you are already 10 days into it! Congrats to you :)

Katiejean, the short workouts are one of the things that appeals the most to me. Dedicating an entire hour is a lot more daunting. I have far less excuses to skip a 20 minute workout.

Eskielover, good for you for getting up early to get things done. It should get easier soon, so hang in there.

Yesterday was so hard, but today was day 4 for me and the workout flew by. This is especially ironic since I also added back in the 5lb weights today. The first and last standing arm exercises I needed to switch back to the water bottles, but I used the heavier weights for everything else. I noticed my lower legs looked a little curvier during the workout and when I took my measurements, my hips were 1/2" smaller!? I measured every way I could think of and could not get the measurement I had consistently had before I started. All these changes may just be due to temporary muscle tightening, but I'll take it!

Only Me

After 3 days, I had to take a day off for the sake of being able to walk. This afternoon I got back at it and did day 4. I was able to do one whole set of regular push ups, and used the 5lbs weights for all of the arms only exercises (2lb weights for the arms/legs combos). It was still tough, but I felt so much better doing it today that I've almost stopped feeling guilty over a rest day so early.

I agree that the shortness of the workout is quite attractive. I can force myself to commit to it. 50+ minutes can be more difficult to fit in.

06-21-2012, 08:56 PM
Yanna, that's awesome that you saw a change so soon! I am an instant gratification junkie, so this is really encouraging.
I had a burst of inspiration today after my workout... I had purchased one of those body wrap things from my cousin about 3 weeks ago, but it hasn't come in yet. Now, I know that's not a weight loss tool, cuz you don't lose pounds, BUT it does tighten your skin and improve the appearance of cellulite and whatnot. SO... I'm expecting it to come in the next few weeks, but I've decided to hold off on using it until I'm done with the 30 day shred, as a little reward for myself for completing the workout. Yay!

My back was hurting last night, so I decided to take the day off today. Tomorrow, I work (a physical job that tends to hurt my back, too) so I wanted to play it safe. Tomorrow is supposed to be my planned day off. Not thrilled about 2 days off in a row.

I took today off from doing Shred too. I used to be "off" on Saturdays because it's such a busy day at work, but since I was scheduled earlier today than tomorrow, I switched so I could sleep an extra hour this morning. I still exercise (usually walk) but since the weather is so hot, I'll spend some time this evening on my rebounder (mini-tramp). :trampo::trampo:

I'll be back with Shred tomorrow morning. How is everyone else doing?

I've noticed a little change too. Got into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear in months. Change isn't totally due to Jillian as I worked another program for 7 days before switching to Shred. Anyhow--love the fact I can get into my jeans even tho they're tight.

Hello,

I hope you don't mind me joining in this thread! I recently started the 30 Day Shred and completed Level 1, Day 5 today. It's nice there are lots of people on here doing it!

I think I have absolutely dreadful upper body strength! The toughest exercises for me are the push-ups at the very beginning in Circuit 1 (even resting on my knees, I still feel so feeble!), and the Circuit 3 sideways lunges combined with holding hand weights and then lifting them up to your eyes in front of you (the legs part is fine, but it is so tough doing the arm lift bit!). I am using 2lb "weights" (I don't have hand weights... so am using a 4-pack of tinned tuna in one hand, and a bag of brown sugar in the other ). The abs/cardio bits are easier for me, but then it's easy to push it to make it much tougher - and the cardio circuit where it combines star jumps with the jump rope exercise is absolutely exhausting! Which bits do other people find tougher/easier?

Having said that, I am really enjoying it, as it does feel like it is a very efficient workout. I feel pleasingly tired/achey the following day after the workout, but not in a painful way. I've been doing the workout most days with occasional days off here and there. I've found it best to do it first thing in the morning, before getting showered and having breakfast. Since it's so quick to do it is very manageable.

I'm looking forward to comparing before/after progress photos - I took some in underwear (shudder!) and weighed myself when I started - realised I should probably take some measurements too!

I hope everyone else is doing well, I look forward to hearing about progress everyone is making!

Hello! How is everyone doing?

I just did Level 1 Day 6 this morning. I didn't do 30DS at the weekend, but noticed a big difference in my endurance on the push-ups! I couldn't believe it... they are definitely my most uncomfortable move, and I did the first set of them with proper form, all nice and straight without sticking my bum up (albeit the 'easy' version where you balance on your knees) without stopping - previously I'd have to sit back or take a pause. Shocked that the difference in my upper body stamina is noticeable after such a short amount of time!

I'm thinking now about the transition from Level 1 to Level 2 - if anyone here has done that, how did you find it?

princessbgirl
07-02-2012, 08:40 AM
you are smart to take off a day or two from 30DS. I made the transition from Level 1 to Level 2, and did it after a few weeks of consistent Level 1 work. My advice would be to take it slowly and stick w it. It is a bit more aerobic and the weight work puts a lot of emphasis on the shoulders. When I started, I could even make it through Level 1 - now I am on Level 4 w Ripped in 30! If I can do it, anyone can. Have fun!

So does. Anyone take days off or is it 30 days straight. Cause that seems kinda bad for the body actually.

amandie
07-03-2012, 01:33 AM
Sonja- I personally have never done it everyday, and I did not use hand weights at first. I did it every other day but I also did resistance band/bodyweight exercises in between or 30 minutes on the elliptical. Just do what you can and build up to it if possible.

tinycities
07-03-2012, 11:02 AM
Completed Level 1, Day 7 this morning - I can't believe how much of a difference I am noticing between workouts. I couldn't do the full set of side lunges combined with lifting the hand weights up to your eyes in front of you with the arms straight - and now I managed to go through that bit without stopping! Press-ups are feeling much better too, think I will move to the proper ones soon rather than resting on knees!

princessbgirl - thank you so much for the encouragement! I am looking to see what other Jillian DVDs there are to do and I found Ripped in 30 clips on YouTube - it looks brilliant! Think I will do that if I make it through 30DS!

Sonja - I'm aiming to do it five or six times per week - every weekday, then once at the weekend if I feel like it. For the first few days, it was definitely a bit achey and stiff the following day, but it wasn't pain, so I pressed on with it. I'm not a medical person at all, but it seemed to me good to exercise muscles that felt stiff rather than not using them much. However, I think only you know whether it's sensible for you, and I think if you feel pain (rather than just mild ache or stiffness) then it's probably not a good idea to keep doing it daily! I think if you keep at it, you will definitely notice a considerable reduction in discomfort. I'm only on Day 7 of Level 1 and I don't feel any or much stiffness the following day, and my stamina has increased SO noticeably. Stick with it! After the first few days it felt SO TIRING but it gets much better to do as your fitness and strength increase!
