Healthy Extras- what do have each day for a health boost
I would love to hear what healthy "extras" you try to add to your daily diets. Do you take vitamins, have a great healthy protein shake, add certain foods for their "super food" power?
This being my first week I don't have many yet. I am adding 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed to my oatmeal.

I drink a Spiru-tein shake most mornings, made with soya milk. About 200 calories & packed with protein & added vits / minerals. I wouldn't like to rely on it, but it is a useful safety net.

I make protein shakes out of protein powder, PB2, and fruit on my heavy workout days. If I'm short on calories then I will make the shake with peanut butter too.

When I make a smoothie I always add chia seeds and ground flax seed I'm also going to get back into the habit of making green smoothies a couple times a week with kale and spinach. When you put them with a banana and strawberries you can't taste the veggies at all!

My newest kick is having steel cut oats made with unsweetened almond milk. I stir in fresh fruit, and the "recipe" is always changing depending on what fruits and nuts I have for that week.
I used to do green smoothies a lot.

I like smoothies made from non fat greek yogurt and fruit (especially mango or blueberry). I also love steel cut oats. I cook a pot on the weekend (leave it slightly undercooked) and stick it in the fridge. Then each morning I scoop some into a bowl with some fruit or homemade jam and a bit of milk or water and heat it in the microwave. MMMMMmmmmmmm. A small amount is VERY filling and satifying. Also, a can of McCann's steel cut oats is about $6 here, but in bulk they are ~$1.30/lb! I've found themin bulk at Winco, sprouts, and whole foods.
