Hi everyone! Wow...things have been super hectic around here. Yesterday (in addition to my normal hectic schedule), I helped one of my niece's get ready for her prom. I did her nails and make up. It was SO much fun!!!

Kitcherella--I agree...I hope May is better weight-loss wise for me too. Although I am trying to learn that it isn't what the scale says that matters. I will be taking update pics and measurements on Saturday. Can't wait to see if there are changes. Awww, thanks. I never, ever thought I would even want to attempt to run. But...during my journey, I have learned that some things are more about the challenge. I'm not concerned about time or distance (although I would like to work up to 5 miles someday, that may never happen...who knows?!) Some friends and I are signing up for a "Dirty Girl" mud run. It's a non-competetive 5k obstacle course-type event. Yea...we are probably insane for doing it, haha! I suggested next year, but one of my friends (also my zumba instructor) is sure she can have us all ready in time...it's in September, so we do have some time. I figure between her and my trainer....well, we'll have fun anyway!

lottie--I am so sorry about the job. Take care of yourself sweetie.

Things are going well for me. Still sticking to my workouts and eating well. I went to a running store and was actually fitted for sneakers. Wow. What a difference! They took all kinds of measurements, asked a ton of questions, and I tried on I can't even tell you how many pairs. I finally found a pair that fit what I need AND feel great.

Today is my rest day. I am doing just that! This afternoon I will do some studying, which I haven't been doing much of. I really want to get certified, so I need to get moving!
Hope you are all doing well!

So, once again my DM has convinced me to stay. I"m going to try just keeping my two jobs I already have cuz I like them, and increasing my hours just a little at a time until I feel where I can't work more.

I had a great day at work. I love it there. The lyrica gets increased tomorrow. woooo!

I've lost 10 lbs btw.

05-08-2012, 08:53 PM
lottie--I hope it works out for you! CONGRATULATIONS on your loss! That's awesome!

Not too much going on here...work, workouts, studying :) All good stuff!

Hope everyone is hanging in there!

Thanks MJ for opening the new thread.
All is Ok here, after a few rough days, too much work, too much food and not enough exercise I am regrouping. I haven't gained but I haven't lost either. But I feel good and proud of myself because I haven't smoked! Nearly two months now.
My gynaecologist is happy with my weightloss but I still need to check my blood sugar level to check for diabetes as I have PCOS. Eehh!
Mj - You are quite right, it is about the challenge sometimes and we should challenge ourselves constantly to avoid stagnation (of mind and body). Dirty Girl sounds so much fun! I wish we had things like that here. (at least I don't think we do - Note-to-self why don't I organise one?) You'll have fun training for it too. I bet you will see changes on Saturday. ;)
Lottie - :congrat: and things are working out for you.

I mentioned I"ve lost 10 lbs....

this is since going off seasonique. I think it was the culprit! I stopped losing when I started taking it, my cravings were out of this world bad and a few months later I was gaining and couldn't stop.

Now I'm back on portia and doing great. No more insane cravings!

05-09-2012, 10:17 PM
I had a good day. protein shake for breakfast, peanut soup for lunch (jam packed with veggies!), tvp tacos for dinner. I really didn't eat many cals, I think I'll juice some later tonight.

I got called in to work for a few hours to help with a recall that needed done. It was annoying but was happy to help.

Oh well, my TOM will be gone soon. Then I can weigh. the scale has been going crazy during my TOM this past week so I"mgonna give it a few days to settle down before I hop on.

Hope everyone is doing good. mjmjmj. hugs.

Hi! All is good here, (aside from the fact that my country is in a state of political turmoil) , I had delicious fava beans for lunch and a great homemade burger with parsley, cucumber and red onion salad and fruit throughout the day.
It is funny how much different things taste now. I was out the other day and I had a burger. :cbg: It tasted pretty much like rubber. So after 4 months of the clean, fresh taste of unprocessed food I can safely say I don't even want to touch fast food (burger style).

Lottie - Peanut soup sounds yummy. Please elaborate :)

Greetings to all, hope you are well

05-11-2012, 10:17 AM
it's got ginger, coriander, hot pepper, peanut butter mixed with sautead onions and peppers, and I myself add potatoes, green beans (in place of okra), and carrots, tomato sauce and garlic salt.

It sounds like...peanut butter and tomato sauce? Ick. but it's really good. Makes it nice and creamy with a full flavor. :)

05-11-2012, 10:20 AM
well yesterday was good, today will be good too. I can feel it. :)

protein shake and fruit for breakfast today.

mj love your avatar pic. :) You look so fiesty! :P

05-11-2012, 10:52 AM
oh! btw, I"m using the veggie quick track on spark to try and sneak in extra fruis/veggies. had a banana and apple with my protein shake for breakfast. :)

05-12-2012, 03:31 AM
Oh, how I love Saturday mornings! 2 months smoke-free today and expecting a loss on Monday :crossed:

Thanks for the recipe Lottie.

You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

Hi everyone! Things at work are settling down to a "dull roar". It's nice for it not to be quite so super hectic.

Kitcherella--Thanks! GREAT job not smoking!!!

lottie--Hmm, sounds like that might have been the culprit! Your doing great! Keep it up! Thank you! It's actually one of my favorite pics of me. It's several months old, but I am going to take a new one this weekend.

Today my cousin and I are doing a 5k walk. It's to raise $ for a scholarship fund for a young mom who was killed last year.

VERY exciting news, maybe. One of the owners from my gym contacted me yesterday. He and I chat often (he even invited me to a private boot camp class that he, his wife, and a couple of other people do a few times per week. I haven't been able to go, yet because it's during my work day, but I will get there!). Anyway, there is someone at my gym who is looking for a female personal trainer. I reminded him that I'm not certified, yet. He said that it doesn't matter. There is a 17 year old young lady who is overweight and wants to get started working out. She is too self-conscious and embarassed to workout by herself and doesn't know what to do. She refuses to work w/ a guy (too embarassed about how out of shape she is). They are looking for someone that she can be accountable to. So...he thought of me. WOW! He asked if I would at least be willing to talk with them. I agreed!!!!!! I figure I have nothing to lose by talking to them. So, I told him to go ahead and give them my number. I really, really hope they call. How cool would that be?! I mean, I don't have a ton of experience, but I really think it would be a great way to get started. (My trainer thinks so too). I'll let you know if they end up calling. :)

Have a great day!

05-12-2012, 11:15 AM
mj that is super exciting! Hope they call!

kitcherella, I forgot, you take half the soup out and blend it! Makes it thick and creamy. then add back tot he rest of the pot.

I just use an immersion blender.

Yesterday I started doing yoga again! I also went for a walk out to the conservatory lawn around 1130 pm. we go to see the buns that hang out on the lawn at night. We saw a family of about 5 bunnies at one point, TOO CUTE! :)

05-12-2012, 05:40 PM
Thanks lottie! I hope so too. YEA for starting yoga again.

Well...the 5k was fun. My friend who picked up our race packets arrived about 15 mins AFTER the race started. She went to the wrong part of the park....anyway, even starting 15 mins late, we still didn't come in last! Yippee! It was a good time. We walked at a slower pace than I am used to, but I let my cousin set the pace. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and a walk by the lake, then I ran a few errands and went for a massage. I have tons of stuff to do around the house, but I'm going to chill for a bit, then get things done.

Here's a post-race pic :)

05-12-2012, 11:36 PM
Sounds like a good time.

I'm hoping to do some 5k's here this summer.

I had a good on plan day. I couldn't find my yoga on the comp, one of our drives is dying and things are starting to go missing. But I found one on netflix so that worked out well. I actually really liked it.

05-13-2012, 03:58 AM
Mj - you look great and what a contagious smile! Great news! it will be great for you to start and you'll help someone too!

Lottie - thanks for the clarification. Excellent that you re-started yoga. how cute to see bunnies.

Enjoy your week!

05-14-2012, 01:57 PM
mj, where did all of our old regulars go?

I did yoga today, I work at 3, I generally work mornings so trying to schedule as late a lunch as I can so I Don't get too hungry at work.

feelin' good!

05-15-2012, 01:07 PM
Gah! I got a call for a job interview for something I applied for ages ago before things were straight at my job!

BUT....I know the lyrica doesn't last forever, it is not a long term solution.

Also, if I stay at my current job, there is no room for advancement with my condition. I can't sit, I can't work full time, those are the facts. :( I LOVE MY JOB and I don't want to leave :( BUT, if I can get a full time job as an optician, where I can sit occasionally, I can't just turn that away.

Anyhow, interview is on friday, wish me luck.

05-15-2012, 04:58 PM
I've lost 55 lbs. My arm are flabby stomach is going down and a little saggy. But it's my legs. They are getting smaller and I'm exercising but it's the cottage cheese and sagging. Even when I lose all the weight I want to I will never be able to wear shorts with them looking like this. Any body have any solutions.

05-16-2012, 08:13 PM
Hi everyone! Work has been super hectic, again. Hopefully things are slowing down a teeny bit so I can start checking in here more often again! I miss you girls!

lottie-I hope you do some 5k's. It was SO much fun! I don't know where everyone is?? I have bene swamped at work, so I haven't been here as much as I would like. Good luck on the interview. Deep breath! One thing at a time!

Cajunlady--Unfortunately I don't...I have lost 113lbs so far and I do have some (of course), but I have also lifted weights right from the beginning, so I know that has helped.

Things are going well with me. Going slow (literally, haha) with running, but slow and steady! Hope you are all doing well!

05-18-2012, 07:17 AM
Hi everyone! TGIF! Anyone have any exciting plans this weekend? For once, I have a 'calm' weekend. Not sure how that happened, but I'll take it! Tonight there is a 'girls night' to celebrate my friends 2 year Anniversary of her Zumba studio. That will be fun! I will hit the gym right after work, then come home and get ready. Tomorrow is kickboxing, errands, and then that's it! I plan on getting LOTS of study time this weekend.

I put together a series of pics from the beginning of my weight loss journey to the present, if anyone is interested in seeing them I'd be happy to post them.

Have a great day!

05-21-2012, 09:15 PM
Heeellllooooo??? How is everyone doing?

05-25-2012, 12:19 AM
I'm okay, had a rough couple days, not bad just kind of neither here nor there.

haven't lost. :( Haven't gained :)

On track with my tracking and yoga tomorrow!

05-27-2012, 02:24 PM
Hello, I hope you are Ok.
I had a bad week or month I should say, I am sure I have gained but I will weigh myself tomorrow (damage control). I am not giving up, though. 2 more weeks of work and then time to regroup and focus on what I have to do.:bubbles:

05-28-2012, 11:58 AM
Hi everyone! I RAN yesterday! 5 friends and I did a 5k together and I RAN (except for a teeny bit in the middle). It was amazing! I also sent in my latest article to SkinnyMs. Here is the link:

Kitcherella--Hang in there. Not giving up is the key!

Hope everyone is doing well.

05-30-2012, 04:16 AM
After having to deal with a funeral and extreme working hours for the past 10 days I gained nearly 2 pounds. I am rather proud of myself about that actually because I did not do really bad. Nor did I continue eating unhealthily. I am back on track and very satisfied with it.
The worst part was that I didn't eat 'proper' food. I had to resort to fast food and snacking. I didn't like it at all and my energy levels were down.
Anyway, 3 days back on track I have lost my nearly 2lb and I am stronger than before.
Mj - thanks for the support, I enjoyed your article very much! And the other day I was looking at pinterest and I found another one from the SkinnyMs about arm workouts-nice!

Kitcherella--That's awesome! Keep it up!!!

I am wrapping up a week (well, at the end of the day on Friday) of a "metabolism re-set week"...which means my trainer told me to basically "eat healthy, but eat whatever you want". I am not supposed to pay attention to calories, nutrients, or anything. As a result, I am retaining a LOT of fluid. The scale is up 16lbs. OMG! Ok...now, in reality, it is not possible that I have consumed enough calories for that to be a true gain, but it certainly feels like it. I am sooo uncomfortable. I have been making very healthy choices, but the higher calorie range is really hard. I cannot wait to get back to "normal" on Saturday.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I think I need a little community support :)

I have been working pretty hard on fitness. I'm training for a half-marathon this fall and have been running most days, 3-7 miles. Just recently, I added 3-4 days of walking with my mom (mostly for her benefit) and a routine of situps, pushups, and squats (all online-based programs that I've downloaded as apps on my smartphone). It feels like the scale is finally starting to move again. I know I'm getting fitter. I ran a 5k in about 40 minutes on St. Patrick's Day weekend and yesterday I ran about 6 minutes faster just in training! I'm hoping to get under 30:00 soon.

Eating has been a challenge for me. I don't really eat sweets or binge or really eat unhealthy foods, but there are days when I shoot for 1500 calories and end up with 2200. Even with working out, I'm not losing weight really quickly. I am hoping that amping up my workouts and adding more strength training will help.

06-02-2012, 06:00 AM
Good morning!

defenestrator--Welcome! That's awesome that you are training for a 1/2 marathon! I have lots of friends who are runners. Last weekend I ran (most) of my first 5k (I have a bad knee and had always been told I couldn't run, ever. Recently my doctor gave me the ok to try a little bit.). Your workouts will definitely help, but staying on track with how much you are eating is a big factor as well. You will find the right balance that works for you, just keep at it.

I received my new workout from my trainer yesterday....can I just say my arms hurt from just reading it, hahahahaha!

Nothing too exciting going on around here this weekend. Kickboxing later today, then errands, some cleaning, laundry...you know all the normal weekend stuff. Since it is a low key weekend, I WILL get lots of study time as well.

Have a great day!

06-04-2012, 11:07 AM
Ideas for low-calorie lunches that are filling enough to carry you 6 or 7 hours?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my calories creeping up. I'm working out 1-2 hours a day but I'm eating more like 2200 calories and I want to be under 1800. I think my losses would be more consistent then.

I have a standard breakfast I like that is about 400 calories. Tend to eat 600-800 for dinner or so. I'd like to keep lunch under 400 too but I'm having a hard time doing so.

06-05-2012, 10:00 AM
So I've been going crazy with my work situation. I started looking for a new job again, I have two interviews this week, one tomorrow, one thurs. I'm hoping I get offered both and can take the one that pays more. ;)

I'm still here. :)

Hi friends...

-A good on plan day yesterday (90 %op). I pushed throught my sabataging thoughts. I wanted to eat lots of unplanned foods in the evening, but ended up going to bed earlier than usual. Some credits:

planned/measured/logged food
used distraction techniques
lots of water
did my exercises
ate seated, mostly
no seconds
left a bite

Today this came through on the Beck Facebook page:
Tuesday Reality Check: If you were driving on the highway and missed your exit, you wouldn’t think, “Well, I’ve blown it now,” and continue driving four more hours in the wrong direction. No! You’d get off at the very next exit and turn around. The same is true for dieting – the moment you make a mistake, turn yourself around and get right back on track.
Such a good reminder!

Today I am taking Mom to the doctor. I need to rehearse.

Even though I am not posting here alot. I am reading and wishing you all well.

Have a great day.
