View Full Version : Memorial Day Challenge

Last year we were doing a challenge thread every 6 weeks or so and it seemed pretty popular, so I thought I'd start one up again and see how it goes :D. So please join me and we can get this weight off together....

Memorial Day is only 9 1/2 weeks away ( I can't believe it's so close). So each of us needs to pick a challenge to meet by 5/26/03.

My challenge is to loose 10 lbs by 5/14 since we're leaving on vacation on 5/18. I also want to average at least 3 walks per week for the next 8 weeks, which might be hard considering MI spring weather.

START = 243.8

GOAL = 233.8

Let's get going onto a thinner/fitter group :dancer:.

WOOHOO A CHALLENGE!!

Thanks Tech! What a good idea. I'm in. It's always good for me to have something to be accountable to.

My goal is to lose 10 lbs.

I weigh in tomorrow, so then I'll put my starting weight.

Good Luck all!

hello all. Starting weight 197. Goal 187.

This morning I spent some time visualizing - me at my goal weight. I have been spinning my wheels for too long and it's time for some real progress. Going to look into hiring a personal trainer when I get back next week also.

Have a great weekend all - I'll check in while I'm gone if I get a chance.

Hello Everyone -

Great to see so many others up for a challenge :) .

Well I'm pretty proud of myself I walked Wed and bought the first "Walk Away the Pounds" tape and did that today. So I'm on my way to meeting my 3 days of exercise/week goal. (This is a biggy for me I am a huge couch potato) Let's hope the weight follows suit :crossed:

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Where is everyone????? I feel like I'm talking to myself. Oh well nothing new....

Tomorrow is my WI so we'll see how I've done. I've been over on pts, but did extra activity (to light to really be exercise).

Hope everyone else is sticking to their goals and we will all be a little less on Memorial Day!!!

Hi All ~

Sorry I didn't post after my weigh-in this weekend - I had company. Anyway, I was trying to guess my weight, and was...wrong! I'm heavier than I thought (of coarse!). Blah. I'm still determined to lose the 10lbs for my Memorial Day goal.

Off to a good start this weekend. I'm doing really well with the exercise and points. Wish me luck!

Nona :)

Beginning:162.2
Memorial Goal:152.2

I will try this.. although I am only 2 days in to my new healthier lifestyle (again) and I was aiming for only day by day goals.. I will still take the plunge and go for this. I guess I am starting a little late... so I will hope by then I can lose 15 pounds.

hi all,

no progress to report. still holding steady at 179.5. i go through these mini plateaus where i'll lose nothing for 2 weeks and then lose 1.5 lb or something. but as long as the scale doesn't go UP i'm pleased.

i think i need to add some weight training to my exercise regimen. i'm burning fat with the cardio but not really gaining any muscle. plus i need a change. i'm starting to get bored :)

good luck to everyone!

Lauren, Congrats on the loss!!!:D 4 lbs is A LOT...maybe I should cut out dairy? nah... Don't think I could handle no milk in my coffee! ha! :)

Glad to see some more new people on the site... like me. I'm really enjoying the challenge. I am having a super week and hope it shows on the scales for me this Saturday. Time (and points) will soon tell. I'm getting extra walking in by parking in the last (literally) parking spot in the lot. I will probably get weird looks since people usually want the closest parking spot - LOL!

Congrats again on your loss Lauren.

Hello Everyone,

Sounds like most are off to a good start. We went to WW last night and I was up a pound, but I was feeling bloated and I'm not going to worry about it just keep working on it. So here are my stats:

START 3/18 = 243.8
3/25/03 = 245 +1.2 :( Did "walk" 4 times though :)
4/1/03 =
4/8/03 =
4/15/03 =
4/22/03 =
4/29/03 =
5/6/03 =
5/13/03 =
GOAL 5/13/03 = 233.8

LBH - congrats on the loss 4 lbs

Nona - Yea on the extra activity :)

LA - Good luck finding a new activity that works for you :lucky:

LA, I found doing the points more helpful, I think. I did feel accountable, but not enough, I guess. I was almost kind of fun to count pts. and figure out what I could have...or wanted to spend pts. on! :D

Arizona Girl
03-27-2003, 10:07 AM
Good Morning!

LA ~ I find W.W. helpful in the respect that it keeps me accountable to myself. I look at my points in terms of a "checkbook". If I have the "funds" available, I can spend it... it's the same with points. If I have the points available, I can EAT! haha!! ;) Anyway, counting points is like a game to me - I thinks it fun to end the day with "money still in my account".

I'm a lifetimer who is returning to W.W. The meetings are sooo helpful. You share information and find shortcuts in recipes, good advice, and learn about new products. Also, if you can share your goals, ups/downs with other people it seems to help - people are very supportive and encouraging (not critical of you)...

Hope this helped in answering your question.

Have a good day ~ Catch ya all lighter! ~ Nona :df:

You go girls!

Without dragging you all through the muck of the past 5 months, I would like to join the challenge.

Goals:

==Work up courage to weigh myself on 4/07 by drinking my water and eating reasonably

==Get some sort of exercise at least 3x per week

==Avoid being bogged down in the "unrelenting realities of everyday mundane life" and focus on what is important.

==Lose 1 lb per week for the final 7 weeks of the challenge, for a total of 7 lbs.

==CHECK IN EVERY WEEK!!!!!

Keep on it all.

Hey guys I want in on the challenge too! I am going to do mine in inches if that is okay. My last weight was 166 down from 172 in February. I stopped weighing because when I returned to the gym the scale started climbing but I was losing inches. So my goal for the challenge is 5 inches by Memorial Day. My last measurements were on 3/28 so I will gauge by those.

So far for Monday I have already had a 45 minute walk and will be hitting the gym after work. I have already drank 33 oz of water :) :)

This TOM week for me so I don't think I will be measuring until he has left the building :D :D

PS...for those who don't know I do Low Carb so my stats may look weird :)

Hello Everyone,

Went to WW last night and I lost a pound. I was a little disappointed because I was feeling skinny last week, but I didn't drink all my water over the weekend and I know that affects WI :o. I'm counting shoveling snow on Monday as my 3 rd "walk" there was no way I was doing my WATP tape after I was done.

So here are my stats:
START 3/18 = 243.8
3/25/03 = 245 +1.2 Did "walk" 4 times though
4/1/03 = ???? skipped wi, only walked 2 times (still averaging 3/week)
4/8/03 = 244; -1 and "walked" 2 times and shoveled snow once, back where I started but still not bad :)
4/15/03 =
4/22/03 =
4/29/03 =
5/6/03 =
5/13/03 =
GOAL 5/13/03 = 233.8

Ellie - Welcome, good luck on those inches.
Willbe - Bummer on the bad weekend. Good luck with this week.
