Weight Loss Support - Emotional desire vs cravings not always hand in hand?

I used to think that if I wanted something, I just...simply want it. Now, a lot of times I am at a funny crossroads-I feel my body craving random things sometimes, but on a larger scale (emotionally?) I don't want it, and I wait a while and the craving passes. I worry sometimes-like am I depriving myself of the foods I want? But then again, I always feel much happier whenever I decide not to go for it. I am sure that there will be a time when I whole heartedly want chocolate (milk or white only I hate dark!!) but for now this pretty much sums up my feelings towards the foods I used to eat all the time. :dizzy:

Oh yeah, my cravings are almost always in direct conflict with my long-term emotional needs. I get it stuck in my head that I want...even need...that pint of Ben & Jerry's even though I desperately want to continue my weight loss success. And I know that the Ben & Jerry's is a gateway to other things...it never ends with just that 1-pint splurge. That's why it's so tough to fight, because your short-term emotions want that splurge, but long-term, you do not.

IMO, it's a GOOD thing that you're depriving yourself of those short-term wants. Unless you are denying yourself green leafy vegetables, carrots and apples (hah!) - but if you are denying yourself a split-second, impulsive pint of ice cream, that's good. Should you deny yourself forever? No way! I love Ben & Jerry's! Now, I plan for it, I adjust the rest of my diet, I make sure I work out a little more and I share that pint with my husband.

For me, it's all about quieting that short-term, impulsive, emotional want and listening to my long-term emotional needs. Not always easy, but definitely the right way to go!

That has been happening to me lately when I take a big portion of healthy food, all tracked and accounted for. I'll eat a certain amount, and then kinda look at the rest and be like man, I do not want you anymore. I will want it - but not.

I think it's great that your emotional cravings are wearing off, that you are able to respond emotionally to cravings in a POSITIVE manner - it's usually our emotional cravings that get us into trouble!
