I have been reading about this and would like to incorporate into my diet. Question is there any products out there that are not going to make everything taste like coconut. In other words less coconut tasting or is it something you need to get used to. I found some at one of our local grocery stores, I believe it is Nutiva organic extra virgin coconut oil. I sautéed some veggies for a crustless quiche, used about a tablespoon and all I can taste is the coconut oil. It's not bad just not what I am used to and sort of over powers the other flavors like the cheese & garlic. Any advise much appreciated.

you'll adjust to it in time. personally, i love the taste. just wish i could afford it, lol - at the only health store i have access to, 1 litre is $80.

There is a more "refined" coconut oil that has less coconut flavor, but there's some debate about whether the refined version is as healthy (and apparently some types of refining processes are healthier than others).

I have found that even of the unrefined versions, some brands have a much stronger, much more obvious and recognizeable coconut flavor than others, so you might try a few brands to find the one you like best.

Thanks to both of you. It is pretty expensive, and that is why I opted for what the local store was carrying. I was also wondering about some of the quality and health benefits diminishing in the processing. I will definitely do some more homework on the subject and save what I have for more sweet rather than savory dishes.

I buy mine from Vitacost.com. They carry several brands, but I buy the Vitacost 'house brand', if you will, at $8.49 for a little over a pound of oil. (They also sell a 54 oz container for $20 and change, I believe.) I can taste the coconut when I use it on vegetables, but when I cook fish or eggs in it I really can't taste it at all.

I take my coconut oil in pill form as a supplement and after watching Dr Oz I tried the rice bran oil that they said helps you lose weight besides being a good cooking oil and leaves no after taste and I like it a lot.
