I'm BORED! And I'm SLEEPY! And I want FRENCH FRIES! Do I get them? NO. I get 1.5 more hours of work, no nap and a spin class before I get to go grocery shopping and spend an hour cooking a healthy dinner.
I realize this probably belongs on one of the food forums, but I was wondering--is anyone else stuck at work craving bad food? If you are, I send you all telepathic French fries. They are fat-free, guaranteed.
Oh, that sucks.....the work part, not the French fries lol. I loooove French fries but lately use sweet potatoes or butternut squash, satisfies the craving for me.
Here's a virtual french fry... I know it's popcorn but we're going to pretend it's the old school McDonalds fries, in the red and white box, before they 'attempted' to make them healthy.
Yeah speaking of McDonald's...they now have shamrock shakes, I've been craving one for over a week! I want one so bad but it's like...800 calories and tons of fat I've been good for 3 days officially and worked out twice, that's HUGE for me!
lol I didn't cave in at all yesterday. Talking about how much I want French fries and imagining how they taste doesn't exactly silence the screaming midget in my stomach, but it helps me work up the willpower to not eat them. The 90 minutes I spent cooking were for jambalaya w/ roux and barbecued cajun corn on the side. 857 calories for a huge bowl and one ear of corn--totally satisfying as comfort food so I lost the French fry craving. Nothing like spices to remind you that healthy food doesn't have to suck! (In case anyone's thinking "jambalaya isn't healthy," we make ours with a ton of vegetables mixed in, and the meat in it is spread out over the 8 servings the recipe makes, so most of the calories come from the rice and the sheer quantity of vegetables.)
The roux isn't too much of a modification. You make a standard jambalaya w veggies, spices, meats and rice, then add (for the red sauce) 1/4 cup paprika, tomato sauce, and some cayenne. Maybe some water, too, to thin the tomato sauce and cut some of the salt. I've *almost* got the recipe perfected but am still monkeying around with the amounts of paprika and cayenne at the end.
Your post really made me smile. Me and my friend have this thing where if we both say the same thing at the same time (not intentionally), we get to make a wish. It's silly, I know, but it's sort of out thing. Last time this happened I jokingly wished all food tasted like french fries. I often find myself craving them but I've definitely cut back on any types of fried foods.
