I gave it some thought, and decided that I may as well post my goal today.
I'm going to shoot for 172 - that's my half way mark.
I also decided that I'll report a weekly weigh-in instead of more often. Probably on Mondays - not that anyone cares, just thought I'd put it in writing for myself.

Looking forward to continuing on with all of you, and any newbies too!

I just went and checked, you are right Easter Sunday is on the 8th. The 6th was probably just a typo, that or maybe she just generalized the challenge to "Easter weekend" so to speak. And yes its 7.5 weeks not 6...but hey I wont complain about the extra time ;)

Hello to all! Just 'hopping' by to say HI! I've had a mostly OP week so far, offsetting any extra cals consumed by EXERCISING (blech). I really need to find a way to like this thing called exercise, and just do it every day and let it be. Hello everyone! Having trouble getting off my booty today to do my work out lol :snail:. I usually work out Mon through Friday. Saturday Im usually out all day, and Sunday is my lazy day. Started Slim-in-6 this week. I was doing p90x with my DH but its a bit too advanced for me and it started to feel more like a struggle then an actual work out. Angie, I'm with you. I really dislike formal exercise. I don't mind walking, riding a bike or yard work, but formal exercise. Yuck! Of course being in Michigan it's a little too cold outside for those activities.

About the only thing I've discovered that I'm successful doing on a regular basis is the step thing on my WI Fit. I make myself do that while I watch any of my shows. It's kind of cool how you can set it for 30 minutes, watch TV as you step, and when it's done find out how many steps you've done.

It's almost like step aerobics. LOL

I need to get my Wii Fit back out and start exercising some everyday. Tonight I am taking my daughter downhill skiing. I think I am getting a cold so I hope I can make it through tonight. It is great exercise and I love it!

I did have one cheat today and that was 1/2 a yeast doughnut. There is no good excuse for that loss of willpower but am back OP. I will work it off tonight.

I don't really care for the exercise DVDs. I really like dancing and Yoga so I have been trying to find DVDs that have those things in them. I love to go on a walk in the evening but it has been too cold lately.

Good afternoon everybunny! :bunny:

Not much new to report. Diet is going well, as is exercise, but I've been the same weight 4 days in a row. Bummer! I thought that since I put a good chunk on rather quickly that it would come off just as quickly once I got back to my diet. That does not seem to be happening, unlike it used to in the past. Yet another good reason not to binge. What took me a week or two to gain (and I can easily gain 10 or more pounds in that time...I kid you not), now takes me a couple of months or more to lose. So unfair! :(

I've decided to go back to my once-a-week weigh ins because the daily ones are only bumming me out. But I'll weigh in on Saturdays because Monday through Friday I get up at 5:30 a.m., and I don't feel as though that is my true weight. For example, I've weighed in at 5:30 on Monday before and, without drinking or eating anything, will weigh again 2-3 hours later and will usually be about a half pound lighter. I need all the encouragement/weight loss I can get, so I'll go with the lighter weight on Saturday mornings when I can sleep in a little longer. ;) Boy, that really took way too long to explain. :p

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend free of temptations! :smug:

I'm also an exercise hater, but the key for me has been to workout with a friend to give each other motivation and encouragement. If it's just me, I'm much more likely to not workout.

We've been doing the Turbo Jam DVDs which so far is definitely my favorite workout! I'd recommend that anybody looking for a fun workout should try it. Like I said, coming from an exercise hater- I think it's fun and it goes by SO fast, it's over before you know it. For the first time in my life, I have actually been looking forward to working out!

Hi Everyone!
I too hate formal exercise and never stick with anything! I started the couch to 5K though and I love it! I think it is because I LOVE to be outside even when it is freezing out. I actually feel sad the days I don't do it but I am starting slow and don't want to hurt myself. I also attend a yoga class once a week. It is actually a way better workout then what I would have thought and very challenging!

Checking in before I hit the bed. I'm exhausted and think I am getting the cold that son & hubby have. I also am an exercise hater and get bored so easily with walking or the elliptical. This evening I bought a rebounder mini trampoline that has arm resistance bands attached for both a cardio and strength training workout. I am looking forward to trying it out in the morning. Has anyone ever tried this??
They are calling for 5" or more of snow here on Sunday and I have everything crossed that we get it. I love snow and we have had no measurable snow here yet this winter. Just want that one big one and then it can get warm and I can go camping.
Hope everyone has a great and successful weekend. I know that the weekends are my toughest time.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Great see some familiar "faces," ::::::waving to Sandy, Angie, Vicki::::::::::::: and BIG hugs also to new friends joining in this challenge

Golly, is it really possible to gain 4 pounds in 5 days? I'd love to believe it's due to a scale malfunction. Breaking point came yesterday: Someone in the building where I work recognized me at a bus stop and began to congratulate me on my "pregnancy."

Got home and mentally began blaming the empire-waist dress I wore, combined with poor posture, blah blah blah - epic denial!

Haven't sorted out the best approach with food and exercise yet, only that I need to eat less and move my body more. I'll post weigh-ins each Friday. So glad to be back with this wonderful group.

Jean

sandcar150
02-18-2012, 01:14 AM
I hear you, Jean, about those empire waist dresses. They could make Twiggy herself look 4 months along. One goal of mine when I reach 150 is to always get dresses and tops fitted at the waist. I am woman...hear me roar! :D

Vicki, congratulation on your new job and your awesome weight loss in the Valentine's challenge.

As for exercise, I'm only aiming for 3 days a week of Callanetics Evolution and 10 minutes on my waist twister (for the more mature women here, remember that little round disc you stand on and just twist back and forth on it to work the waist? I just got one of those to help whittle in my middle). That is about all I can muster these days. I'm hoping the exercise bug will come bite me on the patooty soon so that I can work up to 5 days a week no sweat (no pun intended).

Ta ta for now!

sandcar150
02-18-2012, 02:37 PM
Argh! Same weight now for 5 days straight. This is so aggravating. I guess just plain low carb eating isn't working the same. Time to combine that with calorie counting. Woman's World has a Turbo Atkins diet plan in there, which is basically Atikins but no more than 1700 calories a day. I'll follow that for a while and see if there is any difference on the scale next week. Woman's World claims that women following this plan lost 10 pounds or more a month. I'd be happy with 5 pounds a month at this point in my life.

How's everyone else doing?

Ready2BThinna
02-18-2012, 04:03 PM
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend :carrot:

In hindsight, I'm finding a combination of calorie counting and exercise provided the best (and healthiest) results in past efforts at weight loss. And, if I gave it half a chance, these would probably serve me well in maintaining losses! Rather than choose a numerical goal weight, I'm going to use this challenge to COMMIT to a combination of calorie counting, routine exercise and see where that goes.

I'm also going to begin a "diet" from negative thinking. :yoga: It's not difficult to see where I've allowed one negative thought to take root, build itself into a big storyline that fueled a lot of overeating. Yup - one crummy thought can soon have me back in the kitchen preparing a rich, complicated feast for a body that isn't even hungry.

Sandy, I remember those twister discs! Go for it :carrot: As always, you've now inspired me to dust off the hula hoop purchased a few months ago (and never used). My middle "cheering section" could certainly use the workout - as evidenced by my recent event of mistaken identity at the bus stop :preg: Jzeeeeeeeeeshhhhh!

Logging foods eaten keeps me accountable and motivated. Also going to check in here more often, another key to success. I'll post weigh-in results each Friday.:goodscale (Somehow, seeing where I've landed each week - whether a gain or loss - helps guide the weekend eating to healthier choices).

Let's do this :dizzy:

Just wanted to say hi. I weighed in at my WW mtg this morning. Down .6, which is good in theory, but I'm breastfeeding... Shouldn't the weight be falling off?? I have more baby weight to lose!

My pattern seems to be lose four pounds one week and the maintain the next, repeat. I guess it's not too bad of a pattern, but that week of maintaining is irritating!

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good weekend, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Praise the Lord! The scale finally moved after 5 days. I knew I said I only wanted to weigh in on Saturday, but I just had to see if there was any difference this morning. It's only a loss of 0.8, but I'll take it. I'm starting that Turbo Atkins tomorrow, so we'll see just how "Turbo" it really is.

Down a pound. Ever since I got under 200 it's been slow going. I have to fight for every single ounce. It's probably because in the past 10-11 years I've been under 200 once and only then for maybe 6 months. My stupid body isn't taking to very well to being here but I refuse to ever be over 200 again.

Well it has been an incredibly looonnnngggg weekend. Hubby and I have both been sick, so nothing but laying around and watching t.v.. It finally started to snow flurry here a few minutes ago. I've only been waiting all day. Disappointed I haven't been able to exercise this weekend, but happy to report that I have been totally OP as far as my water and food. So for that to happen on a weekend is a major accomplishment. Hope everyone had a great weekend and wishing all a successful week.

Scale has been stuck in the same spot since last Monday! :tantrum: I think my body is starting to get into a pattern of drop lb one week-maintain the 2nd-drop again-maintain again...its going to be a long week! Hopefully I can report a budge in the scale by Friday. :dizzy:

Got a lot of rest over the weekend though. So Ill at least be able to get my exercise for the week off to a good start today.

Plus NSV-went down a band size in my bra! Also got into my summer clothes from last year and all of them are lose. :carrot: For once in a long time Im looking forward to shopping.

Woo hoo, Vicki. That's awesome!!

Lambie, I feel the same way; I zoomed out of the 200s (it seemed), but have to fight tooth and nail for every ounce to lose now. We just have to keep plugging along. You are doing great!

tbrwn, hope you and hubby feel better soon. My youngest daughter woke up this morning with a sore throat and stuffy nose. Thankfully she's off of school today for Predidents Day, so I hope she'll be better enough to go in tomorrow. Kids seem to recoop so quickly.

I know I shouldn't be on here until all my chores and exercise are done (I'll admit...since I didn't have to get up early to take my daughter to school, I've been moving too slowly this morning). But I just wanted to pop in here quickly to say I'm down another 0.6! It's still very slow going, but it IS finally going.

I'm starting the Woman's World Supercharged Atkins this morning and promise not to weigh in until my new weigh in day, Saturday. I just wanted to see where I'd be starting at.

Good luck to everyone this week for a healthy, happy week ahead. I'll try to check back in later.

Yeah, that's a lie about dropping lbs with breastfeeding...unless your starving yourself. I breastfed 3 children and it didn't help at all. Only dieting and exercise helped me drop the weight, 60 lbs 1st time, 40 2nd and 50 with the last one. Let's just say I enjoyed eating when I was pregnant!

I started the Firm Express plan 5 days ago and have lost 1/2 lb so far. I like the fast pace of the workouts, but they are not easy. Luckily they're only 20 mins each!

I am afraid to weigh myself. I have caught a cold from somewhere and seem to have no energy. Not even to eat. Nothing sounds good. I had a salad today but mostly just picked at it. I have to miss Zumba tonight because of this cold I caught. I am so bummed right now.

Well howdy, FOLKS! Looks like we have had some new (and some familiar) faces to join... WeLcOmE one and all! Congrats to all who saw their numbers drop this past week! It really is such a good feeling, and for me it keeps me motivated! That being said, I did NOT have a drop on the scale at this mornings weigh-in! In fact, I was up 2lbs. I have to admit, it felt like a slap in the face. Only because I've seen the numbers go down each and every weigh-in so this was a little bit of a surprise for me! BUT, I'm not being too hard on myself and have not lost focus or motivation. I know that people hit plateaus during their weight-loss journeys, and whether this is a plateau for me or my body still holding onto water-weight from TOM last week, I KNOW that I'm doing right by my diet! I suppose that's what is keeping me from being too upset about my date with the scale this a.m.! So, enough about me =) 3 cheers for a damn-near perfect OP week this week, yall! Hip Hip HOORAY! Let's do this! :carrot:

Hi everyone!

One week down! This first week of the challenge is also my first week on this website, and my first week of healthy eating/exercise since, well, a long time. For the most part I managed to stay OP, with the exception of a couple more glasses of wine than planned. (My husband and I received a monthly wine delivery package for our wedding last summer, which is great, until you're trying to lose weight. Nothing says "the universe is out to destroy your best laid plans" like having wine delivered to your door on Friday at the end of a busy and stressful week...haha.) Nonetheless, I managed to work out everyday except Sunday, and I dropped 2 pounds.

Great work ladies, let's do this!

I made Homestyle Chicken Packets and fried up onions and bell peppers for supper last night. Very good. I am having the leftovers for lunch today. Hey All,

Checking in and keeping motivated by reading all your delightful posts.

Cherbear, congrats on the baby cub!

Roncygal, good going on losing - despite wine at your doorstep. You have more will power than I do:carrot:

Italiannie and 40PP - hang in there. The scale has never been kind to me. . . and it can be deceiving. While it may show unwanted pounds, sounds like you've definitely lost inches, and your clothes prove it. Yay!

Sandy, kick that turbo plan into gear and show it who's boss. You have definitely got your :flow1:mojo:flow1: back!

Sorry to hear that some of you are having a hard time losing in the first week of this challenge. I will be my bottom dollar that this means next weeks weigh in will be twice as nice. That's what always happens on The Biggest Loser.

Today I was down a pound from yesterday, so this puts me exactly where I was last week for the end of the VD challenge! LOL I know it has to be water weight but still........... move scale! I swear it's laughing at me some days.

I think I remember now why I've never had much success with dieting. I would normally just give up at this point. Heck, I would have given up about 3 weeks ago. But not this time. I'm just going to keep watching what I eat & moving my chubby butt! I WILL beat the scale this time. This is war!

OK, maybe dieting has made me crazy!

On that note, have a wonderful day!

Hi Everyone!

Kandd, redautumn and 40lbs - We'll just have to keep going, very frustrating. Our heads understand, but our hearts say "down you evil scale!"

Ready2Bthinna - Thanks for the encouragement.

I read on a 3FC post recently it went something like this: "the goal is to stay on plan, weight loss is the result." This is absolutely true. My signature also reflects this. That is why I have it, to remind me that each day I stay on plan, I am doing something positive for my health and my body. The weight will come off, even if it takes a long time.

Sandy- I need to move more, too. Can't wait for Spring!
Muggles and VickieLou - Welcome!
Countrybarbie - Welcome back!

Well, I can only comment down as far as those who appear on my screen when I write my post - because I can't remember what I read 2 minutes earlier LOL, so I know I am missing commenting on some important people. Forgive me.

Hang in there gang! I love this group.

But, I come here and read all of your very inspiring posts & POOF! I can't help but be encouraged and to stay focused! It's so great to have you ladies to bounce off of- I know I wouldn't have made it this far without you!

redautumn- glad ur feeling better. Hang in there- i swear my DH can lose a lb/day if he needed to and tried!

WELCOME vickielou- it's never too late to join 'round these parts! =)

Countrybarbie- great to see you again!

Jean- THANK YOU! Your words are extra-encouraging for me today :D

Sandy- I'm hoping you're right about next weeks weigh-in. And YESSSS, I'm so with you- GO HOME CONDA! Such drama & negativity that comes with her :-/

Kim- glad you saw movement on that scale! Keep it up girl!

Been doing The Firm Express for a full week and I've gained. I'm hoping it's muscle. I'm back up to 186.5. My legs are killing me, as are my shoulders. Funny thing is that my 12 year old is trying "to get in shape" for softball season and can't make it through one of the workouts. She makes it through the first 10 mins and then says she's going to throw up and sits down or goes outside to run around the yard instead. Makes me feel pretty good about myself, that I can outlast a 12 year old!

My friends from the Valentine's challenge will already know this, but my 14 year old goes in for her knee surgery next week. Taking her in for her pre-surgery appt. tomorrow. She's finally starting to get nervous about it. I don't think it seemed real to her until now. I'm sure everything will be fine, just wish her doctor's name wasn't "Dr. Grimm"...

I am happy to say that I am back on plan and didn't really get to exercise today, but I did keep my calories low and got in a little work out in.. I hope to stay on plan with this challenge I want to loose 20-40 pounds by my birthday in June... I know I ain't posted much lately, I haven't even been on FB page munch and I was addicted to it lol.. I found some motivation to help get me out my funk now just have to find the energy. If you get a chance, check out the link above. I'm going to try to remember this article when I start to get discouraged about not seeing the movement on the scale that I think I should.

It's amazing to see that here starting & ending weight is the same, but wow! what a difference. Of course, I'm not looking anywhere near that, but this shows me that I'm also probably building some muscle now that I've added some weights to my exercise schedule.

Keep moving ladies!

WOW, Kandd, that link is amazing, my pt at the gym told me to stay away from the scale for about a month but I am addicted to it. I also did my measurements as well, that way if I see no drop in weight, I have the measurements to turn to so I'm not completely relying on weight.

ERRRRGGGG!!!! I snuck a peek on the scale today since tomorrow is the day I have to take pictures for my blog...194.8. That's only 0.4 less than when I started this "Turbo Atkins" on Monday. So much for "turbo" weight loss. So, even low carb AND calorie counting don't seem to work nearly as fast as it did in the past.

Oh well, I will just have to resign myself to the fact that I will be losing weight at a turtle's pace from here on out. I'll tell you one thing, though...I'm going to be one good looking turtle when I get another 44 pounds off. LOL

Had my weekly weigh-in yesterday morning, but wasn't on the computer yesterday to report in. I am down 6.5lbs since last Thursday, but I am realistic in knowing that when I weighed last week I had had a horrible eating week and first day of TOM so lots of that was fluid as well. So I am really only 1 pound less than the week before that. But I have been plugging along this week drinking that dreaded water and getting my exercise everyday.
Congratulations to everyone that has had a happy experience stepping on the scale this week. And for those that did all those healthy things that you know you were supposed to and the scale didn't care to take notice of it...well hang in there cause next week will rock!!!

I hope it works.. I mean by starvation is like I only am eating 3 small meals a day at the most. I am trying to teach myself that I don't have to always have food in my mouth...

Keep it up chics...

The weekend couldn't come sooner - Bleh! What chaos this week wrought.
And forget rounding to the nearest half pound - I've decided to go for the "decimal point" reporting; need all the motivation possible!

Sandy, we are in such a parallel universe ha ha ha ha. Low-carb is no longer my magic bullet either. Weekly weigh-in this morning indicated a measley .7 loss. But hey, I'll play :carrot: At least the scale is going in the OTHER direction.

Like so many of us experience from time to time, work and home life has become increasingly overwhelming with demands and challenges. Keep reminding myself I don't have to fix everyone else's problems, or worse, bury my empathy (and frustrations) in a bout of overeating. One daily routine that offers balance is morning meditation. Like exercise, the days I don't make room for that quiet space are just more confusing overall.

Kandd, all the best with your daughter's knee surgery and true that on the article - thanks for the link. Though I allow it to still taunt me, I learned years ago the scale is not my friend. When my body was fit and toned, no one (including yours truly) could believe my numerical weight. There is NOTHING like the feeling of fitness and wellbeing.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hi Friends.........Tomorrow is weigh in day and I am a little worried. I need to get a new routine going. Since I have returned to work there has been 4 lunch celebrations. I am told this is not the norm but I know it has cut into my progress. I also have not made it to the gym 1 x in 2 weeks!!! On the up side the lunches and snacks I have taken have been healthy and under 400 calories.

Happy to see you all still "hopping" along here (I know, bad pun). I always feel like I am catching up with old friends when I check in here!

Vicki, I feel the same way about this thread. It's nice to see familiar faces and make new friends along the way with each challenge. Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow. And I happen to like those quirky little holiday puns. Keep 'em coming!

Jean and Country, thanks for the support. I just need to change my mindset that there is no magic pill/diet out there that is going to take 5 pounds off in a week for me (at least at this stage in my life). I, too, will take what I can get.

I was down another 0.2 yesterday. Maybe I should put a snail instead of a rabbit on my tickers. lol

I've decided to shock my metabolism a bit, as well as help me out with my exercise and chore routine, by getting up an extra 30 minutes early (5:00 a.m.) to get my workout out of the way before I take my daughter to school. That way, as soon as I return, I just jump in the shower and start up on the ol' chores. I find myself just lolly-gagging around if I don't get my exercise in early; one excuse after the other, you know? And I'll also work out on Tuesday and Thursday to keep up this early-morning routine.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Well another weekend behind me and dreading the work week to come. Went out to dinner this evening and was proud to go to Olive Garden and only eat grilled chicken, steamed brocolli & asparagus, salad and drank water. Man oh man did I want a breadstick and a mucho big margarita!!! My husband said he looked over at me at one point and I reminded him of our labrador with the streams of drool coming out of her mouth while I was staring at the bread basket. lol
My friends threw me for a loop though this evening when they told me that we will have to change the date of the cruise we were planning for June and move it up to the middle of May if it works with all our schedules at work. Panic set in that I lose a whole month of weight loss. I will never make it to my goal before we leave now. So I guess all I can do is to work as hard as I can and get as much off as I can. I am so dang tired of my weight taking the enjoyment out of everything I go to do!!!

Sandy: I so wish I could get up that early to exercise, but I just can't roll myself out of bed at that time of morning and amount to anything. Congrats to you for being able to do that. It's a great feeling to know that you have that workout out of the way for the day.

Will check in later this week....keep moving and drinking that water:)

Sandy . . . sometimes everyone in the house is gone here by 7am and it's sooo lovely and quiet and I think 'oh, I'll just hop on the computer for 1/2 hour then go exercise' and 2 hours later .... yeah, you know how it is.

If I don't get the exercise in nearly first thing I find it so hard to get it in at all. It'll be so worth it if you can stick to getting it in before your day starts. Oh, and the scale has been sluggish for me as well lately but I've been plugging away and also totally getting the exercise in. I refuse to do more than 30 mins or so (in addition to that 30 I do walk my two dogs approx 1.5 miles for another 1/2 hr but it's not an 'exercise' type walk, it's usually more of a sniff than a walk! lol but it is moving) and I change it up every single day. I refuse to do the same routine or even the same type of exercise every day. Cardio one day, weights the next, yoga . . .whatever.

I also started a C25K about 5 weeks ago (it's on iTunes, free podcast, called 'NHS Couch to 5k'). I'm on week 4 and finally am feeling and seeing results. Scale may not be budging as much as I'd like but clothes are def looser. Sweet!

Keep plugging away but don't get stuck in a rut exercise or foodwise. Change it up, frequently, and you will start seeing results.

Well, I posted this yesterday, thought my pc had posted it twice so deleted one. Well it looks like I was mistaken, because now there are none /o:

I just found this forum yesterday, and joined right away. I thought that I might as well jump in with both feet. I have been working on loosing weight (once again) since the beginning of the year and the following numbers are from my records. Hope nobody minds me jumping in late...

3 days left of this monthly challenge. Let's just push through, stay totally OP for the next 3 days, just do the exercise and see if we can't get yet another pound or two closer to goal . . . or maybe even reach it. Come on you guys, 3 days . . . we can do this!

At least I haven't gained any. My thing for lent is to eat healthier. I did have a piece of cake Saturday night at my dad's birthday party. I had a small piece and scrapped off the icing. I prefer the cake part anyways. I was right back OP after that. Now that I am up to feeling 90% better I cannot wait to go to Zumba tonight! I always feel blah when I don't get to exercise. I go to Zumba twice this week and need to figure out what I will do for exercise the other days. I like to do Power Yoga and I need to do some strength training. I try to change it up every week so my body doesn't get used to it. My Zumba instructor changes our routines every so often for the same reason. So maybe being OP and exercising the scale might go down 1-2 lbs. Dh is still losing. I told him I don't want to know how much yesterday. Maybe later. Gotta keep moving forward!

Sandy . . . sometimes everyone in the house is gone here by 7am and it's sooo lovely and quiet and I think 'oh, I'll just hop on the computer for 1/2 hour then go exercise' and 2 hours later .... yeah, you know how it is.

Sweet!

I'm REALLY thinking this is just what I needed to hear... as I've yet again seen no movement on the scale. Gonna re-vamp my eating habits and start moving more and see if that helps. A 2-week plateau? GAH! How long have your plateaus been, everyone? I'm really hoping to break this cycle next weigh-in. Cuz if I don't, there's no telling what may happen to my motivation! Hang in there all you wonderful determined peeps... we will meet our goals!

Good to see everybody sticking too it even if the scale isn't moving as muc has we'd like (or moving in the wrong direction). I had no change this week, although I'm actually grateful for that as I was afraid I'd gained weight after a 5 day "holiday" at my parent's... with all the temptations of my mom's amazing baking. I didn't eat very well, but I did stick to my exercise plan, and that must have been what kept me on track. Thank you, Jillian Michaels!

Hi Everyone! I'm down 1 lb. Not great, but a move in the right direction, last week I was actually up a bit, so that is gone, and I'm headed back down again. I'm on vacation this week, and yesterday I had a great on plan day. I will be dong much more walking, etc, as it's sunny and beautiful and beach side. Lovin it.

I need to get more walking in. I used to walk almost everyday and now I'm down to a couple of times a week. It definitely affects the scale - and my mental well being.

Roncy and californiadreamer - great on the big losses!!!!!!

Sandy - I'm also finding that I don't get the results I used to. At one time I could do Adkins and drop a pound a day. Now, I'm just sticking to my plan. I feel great, and the weight will come off. I've come to grips with the fact that it may take me a year, when before I could have done it in several months. On the positive side, I'm doing something that I plan to stay with forever, so hopefully that's my long term "magic pill." Lord knows I've tried everything else!

Here's knowing we'll all be at least a little lighter by Easter- and that's a good thing.

Saturday I weighed 183.4, Sunday 184.8, Monday 185.6 & today 184.2. I'm trying to weigh every day to see if my body has some type of cycle. And it does. A crazy one.

Californiadreamer, congratulations on meeting your first goal! 30 pounds lost. Woohoo!

Angie, I so know what you're feeling. I've pretty much been stuck around 184 +/- a pound for 18 days now. And I've been on plan. I'm so blaming it on me adding some small weights to my work out & building muscle.

On the positive note I've lost 4.25 inches in the past two weeks. In all the right places. Teeheehee. ;)

Again, have a great day.

After being upset and depressed yesterday about going up 1.2 pounds overnight with absolutely no cheats for 13 days, I weighed this morning and just laughed....down .3 from yesterday. I will not give up....I declare war against my body. (at least thats my mood today:))

What are some of your exercise routines? I usually do the elliptical or walk for 40 minutes 5-6 days a week. I have been trying to add in leg & arm workouts on the weight bench, squats, lunges, and ab workouts. I feel like I am in a rut and my body needs a change.

Kandd: I know exactly what you mean about the scales being all over the place. I know I shouldn't weigh everyday, but I am always afraid that my weigh-in day will be one of my bodys bad days. lol So I weigh everyday to try and keep myself in check. Congrats on your loss!!

Everybody keep up the hard work!!! It isn't easy but we are all in this together!! Have a great day!!

Exercise done for the day! That's two days in a row of getting up early and getting it out of the way. You know what, ladies? It really wasn't as bad as I thought getting up at 5:00 a.m. I actually loved that quiet time by myself before getting started and the feeling of accomplishment after I was done. I'm just about to hop in the shower now, but I wanted to touch base here since this thread moves pretty quickly.

Congratulations to all who've lost weight and are moving towards your goal. And, Kim, that is awsome that you lost all those inches! You must really feel a difference in the way your clothes fit.

tbrwn, you mentioned how you were drooling because you wanted a Margarita. Well, you'll be happy to know that Crystal Lite now makes a Margarita (non-alcoholic or course) mix that's only 5 calories a serving. You mix one packet in a pitcher with 8 cups of water. My husband loves it!

Looseseal, I so agree with you about mixing up the exercise and diet to keep the body guessing. Right now I'm really into the new Callanetics DVDs, but I may burn out on those in a couple months and want to move onto something else. I get bored easily, so this routine keeps things fresh.

40lbsPLEASE, you want to talk plateau?!? I just went back over my blog and realized that I am the same weight as I was on Thanksgiving!!! :( That is a 3-month stall, but it is my fault totally, not really a plateau, just me having too many binge days. But it really hit me that I've let 3 months go to waste. Not anymore!

Italiannie, I did a google search on why it is harder to lose weight as we get older doing the same diet that melted off weight when we were younger. What the results boiled down to was this: It's not just that as you get older your metabolism slows down, it's that we lose more muscle with each passing year. The more muscle we have, the more calories we burn...even at rest! So, unless you build muscle as you age, it will always be harder to lose the weight.

Duh! You'd think I would have already known this. But re-reading it again was like a wake-up call to not slack on the exercise. More and more I believe that; although cardio is important to strengthen our hearts and burn calories, building muscle through resistance training is what will keep our metabolism running on high gear as we enter our golden years.

So, killing ourselves by eating too few calories is not what is going to help us lose those pounds in the long run. It's building a nice, solid muscular (yet lean) body. Just a little food for thought.

Okay, shower time! Have a great day all. http://www.soulcysters.net/images/smilies/grouphug.gif

I've had plateaus that have lasted several weeks and I was totally OP. I would get annoyed and eat way high cals (like 2,000 maybe more) for a day, cut back to around 1700 or so the next day then back OP and the scale would be down like 2 or 3 days later. I think your body goes "hmmmm, 1400 cals again. Ok I'm just gonna hang on to this here fat for awhile in case no more cals come in'. So I shake it up and bombard it with food so it goes 'aaaahhh, there we are, cals!, no food shortage. Ok, I'll let this extra fat go cause I don't really need it cause I know won't starve'. Aren't bodies just swell when it comes to adapting and being efficient?

Same for exercise. I find routines/dvds that I really, really like and do them too often and after a few weeks I notice that they're not nearly as effective as they had been. Now? I'm doing a Couch to 5K (I'm on week 4) so that's every other day, 3x/wk and the other 3 days (I refuse to exercise on Sundays) I do anything from a 20 min. or so workout (Slimdown and Xtreme Slimdown; Supreme 90 Day workout -- knock off of P90X but good stuff, kickboxing, Biggest Loser workouts, 40 min. full body workouts, Wii active workouts, yoga, pilates, stuff I find on youtube (check out BodyRocktv  mostly I just watch that but it gives you good ideas cause you can always modify, etc) to a 40 min. workout but just completely and totally different workouts every day. Some days are a big longer than others but 40 min is the max I'll give to it. I'd rather do a 20 min workout that jumps my heart rate and works out just my lower body then do 40 min of 'slightly increased' walking or elliptical. If your body doesn't know what's coming then it has to adapt and it will burn the cals if the routine is just intense enough.

While I might be inclined to try and rush through the C25K because I know my legs/butt/hips are slimming down from that, I won't do it more than every other day because again, I'd end up getting too used to it and have to push harder and harder and harder to get the same results. Once I'm down to/at goal? If I love running maybe I'd go more often but for now at least, while trying to lose the weight, I'll hold off and just give it time cause it really is helping with the weight loss.

tlbrwn, I can heartily recommend Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30. At first the bad techno and her over the top attitude really turned me off, but man it is a good workout packed into 30 minutes. I've even come to grow oddly fond of her. I've been at it for two weeks and this morning I noticed the tiniest amount of bicep definition... I was irrationally excited.

Kandd, congrats on the big loss of inches. That's great, and probably more telling than the scale.

Italiannie - you're staying OP on your beach vacation? Kudos to you! I never manage it, but I bet with that sunshine and staying OP, you'll come home extra rested and rejuvenated. Enjoy!

Loose seal - I keep hearing about C25K... I think you've convinced me to try it. Also, it took typing your handle to finally get the joke. Maybe I need a Lucille to keep nagging me about my weight and keep me on plan (more likely she'd just drive me to drink).

Sandcar, I know what you mean about making time for yourself in the morning. It's such a great feeling knowing you've got your whole day ahead of you and you've already worked out. (Though I haven't yet managed a 5am workout). Oh, and I gotta try those margaritas.

Well, I'm checking in. I finally reached under 300 this week for the first time in I don't know how many years. I truly hope and pray that the number 3 will never again be at the beginning of my weight. Last night I noticed how much easier it is to get up and down off the floor than it used to be. I think that is the first really noticeable effect of my weight loss other than needing a belt. I have an agility trial coming up this weekend and hopefully I can stick to my plan because there is always a ton of food there, and not very much of it is healthy...

Good Morning everyone, I was reading about what everyone is doing for exercise and I thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I walk 30 to 40 minutes everyday and on Feb 8th I started half hour sessions with a PT at fitness 19, who I see Mon, Wed, Fri. I asked him On Mon if I should be doing more and he told me that I should only do 30 minutes of cardio at a time because after 30 minutes, your body wil start using your muscle instead of your fat for energy. He said that you can do as many 30 minute sessions in a day just shouldnt go too much over 30 minutes at one time. So I decided to dig out my wii fit board (which has been in storage for a year & half) and i went out and bought the fit plus. Fit plus is way cooler than fit. I figure I can walk on the treadmill in the morning like I always do and burn a few calories in the evening playing around with the wii. I would also like to add that my PT is in the process of going to school for physical therapy so he is knowledgable about the body. And on a side note.... I hit my 20 pound mark:carrot:

For exercise I have Zumba classes on Monday and Thursday. The instructor has different routines for those nights so that works out well. She also changes the routines from time to time so our bodies won't get used to it. I try to do strength training on my Wii Fit a couple times a week and then yoga. I sometimes play with my dd's Dance Party 3. LOL I try to not do the same things everyday, every week (except for Zumba). Oh I do have Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred. It is O.K. I like more dancing stuff.

So far, so good this week. I have eaten OP and went to Zumba Monday, walked 1.4 miles yesterday (got interrupted or would have been more) and am going to try walking or strength training today. I have choir practice tonight so it will need to be a short workout.

Everybody seems to be doing so great! I love the support here. It keeps me motivated.

Enjoyed seeing everyones different exercise routines, it helps to give me ideas for changing things up. Yesterday I did day 1 of C25K, and surprisingly it wasn't bad at all. So today I did level 1 day 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. That one nearly killed me till I got to the end, but I made it without stopping...had to improvise wall pushups for regular pushups, but at least I was still moving.
I didn't weigh this morning since tomorrow is my weigh in day so I wanted to be"surprised' in the a.m. lol But I did have a NSV this morning...the black slacks I have been wearing all winter are now too big to wear, so I got the pleasure of digging in the far recesses of my closet for the next size down. So even if the scales aren't kind I know that I am losing inches.
It sounds like everyone is working hard, keep up the great work ladies!!:)

Praying to see the 160's tomorrow...it's been since August since those numbers have been on the scale.

First of all, congratulation on hitting your 20-pound mark! :carrot: Now, about what you PT told you about not going over 30 minutes with aerobics or you'll start burning muscle...I wonder if you could ask him why the trainers on Biggest Loser have the contestants training aerobically for hours at a time if he feel this to be true. Because by the end of the season, most of those men and a lot of the women have lots of added muscle. Don't get me wrong, I hate doing aerobics and usually don't do over 30 minutes at a time myself. I'm just wondering what your PT's thoughts on this matter would be.

Fiyah, a big congratulations to you on getting into the 200s!!! Bye, bye 300s; don't come back now, ya hear?!?

I've got my self-cleaning stove on and it's stinkin' up the house. I've got such a headache from the fumes. :dizzy: You'd think in this day and age they could figure out a way to prevent such strong fumes from this process. Next time I plan to do this I'm making plans to be out of the house for a few hours.

Had a great day, as I hope you all did. I was bummed to hear that Davy Jones, my childhood crush, passed away today at 66 years old from a heart attack. RIP Davy. http://bbs.roddenberry.com/images/smilies/eusa_pray.gif

Sandy, I think Davy was pretty much everyone over 35's childhood crush. I remember me & my best friend used to argue over who was going to marry him. Silly kids. He brought so much laughter to so many people. It's unbelievable to think that their tv show actually was cancelled in 1968. I watched it in the late 70's early 80's growing up. R.I.P.

Stlrsgrl43, great job on reaching the 20 pound mark. 2 pounds per week is great & definitely if it's working for you don't change it.

Four days ago I had bounced up to my begining February weight & over the last 3 days I've lost 3.4 pounds. Whoosh! Yay. Just in time for me to begin holding water for my TOM. Just my luck. Hopefully I get another day or two of the whoosh.

Hope everyone has a great OP day.

Well, I've been 1/2 on 1/2 off plan. A little stressed the last few days as my daughter had her knee surgery yesterday morning. Did get my workout in today while she was sleeping. Everything went well and she should be back to school on Monday. And it doesn't help that my 17 yr old son is mad at me because I don't like his new girlfriend. She's one of the "popular" girls and is not a pleasant girl. I've known her since she was 12 and she's always been mean to my daughter...especially when they were on the same lacrosse teams. One of the reasons she switched to softball. Why are men so stupid sometimes? And why can't they accept the fact that mom knows best?

Hi everyone! I'm still on vacation, so I haven't weighed myself all week. It will be interesting to see what happens. I haven't been too bad.

Sandy - I know you are right about the muscle/weightloss relationship. Some of my friends have recently told me that they really saw the scale begin to drop when they started doing resistance exercises. I really need to think about that. I do some light free weights, but it is not consistent enough to make a difference.

I'm reading everyone's posts.

Great losses, girls!

Fiyah - Special congrats to you. Those milestones are so important for us.

I was sad about Davey Jones, too. He'll be forever young in my mind.

Glad to hear you gals are loosing... Way to go!! Wow lot of post to read since last time I posted lol... Sorry for not being able to reply to everyone but keep up the good work it will all pay off...

Well I am getting more and more stress. School and looking for a job has been so stressful lately.. Well now my bf lost his job so one us has to find one ASAP.... Hardly anyone is hiring around here so major stress with no money no job and bills coming up.... Things where starting to look up then he loosing his job ... STRESSSSS

I was so upset today and disgusted with myself that I couldn't really eat today...I never realized just how big I am till now looking in the mirror side ways.... I just busted into tears.. I have gained weight back that I lost.. I am guessing that it is from all the stress... ARGGG!!!!

I don't even know how much I weigh and really don't want to know... I will weigh in the morning but really dont want to see what the number is..... This is where I would usually lie about the number but that will not help me and I know that so I have to be honest and accountable...

Good Friday morning ladies. The end of yet another work week. I don't know why, but it seems like the older I get the quicker time flies. March already. Come on Spring.

Tlbrwn, great job getting down to the 160's. It's another big step towards your goal!

BethAnn, glad your daughter is doing well. As for your son, you gave him a little warning, but keep an open mind, people do change. I hope for your son's sake she has. Plus, sometimes kids just have to learn things the hard way. It's amazing at how much smarter my parents are now that I'm older. LOL

Barbie, I'm also sorry about your luck, but hang in there & take care of yourself.

stlrsgrl, great job one again. What you're doing is definitely working for you. Keep it up girl!

Hope everyone has a OP weekend. Talk to ya Monday.

Today is better.. I am trying to look at the good things in my life and know that god has a plan for me.. When one door closes another one opens... I ain't feeling so depressed today.. I know I have to keep my head up and instead of eating alot(which I can't cause we are on a BUDGET now) so I have to base out the food so I guess exercise and music is what will have to be my food crutch....

Grrrr...I am in the worst mood ever! After trying so hard to get my weight down and seeing ever so slowly inch down to 194.4, I wake up this morning to see 197 on the scale! I am frustrated beyond belief and, yes, let out a few tears because of it. I really am trying hard, girls, but lately it seems like I'm taking one step forward and then three steps back.

Hellllooo my beautiful 3FC lady friends! I have good news... I got my whoosh! FINALLY! I really needed this girls, because I was really feeling down and out in that I was religiously OP, and no movement on the scale was about to have me throwing my hands up in the air and saying "JUST FORGET ABOUT IT!" But nope, my persistence paid off. I weighed twice (yesterday and today) and am now back down to 168.6. Whew. So, this leads me to my next statement... HANG IN THERE DARLINS! Seriously, when you really sit back and think about it- if you're staying OP and doing what you know is right, then there is NO WAY you're gaining weight... even if the scale says you are. I have come to the conclusion that the scale is the devil  Please ladies, just keep on keepin on and it will pay off. Now, I need to hear this VERY SAME THING next time I'm hitting a plateau. Which is almost a definite.

I'm so proud of all of you ladies, whether you're seeing losses on the scale or not. The fact that we log in here and post our ups and downs almost daily shows that we're tuned in. to you all! Hold your beautiful heads up and show this weight-loss business WHO'S BOSS! :carrot:

Also, I've taken on a new 'job', if you can call it that... I'm keeping a sweet baby girl (6 wks old) 4 days a week, along with my 3 yr old (I also have a 12 yr old that's in school the majority of the day). So, that's keeping me super busy, hence the lessened posts here! But I'll check in as much as possible. :D XO ladies!

Oh! And tlbrwn... I just have to point out some similarities we have: our height, our weight, our goal for this challenge, we are both in VA, and we both love camping! I thought that was too neat =) (I went through the posts in this thread for some inspiration and noticed all of these things!)

Hi Friends.........I have been trying to catch up on what I have missed this past week with everyone - HUGS to everyone  ! Regardless of how much weight people are losing or aren't, we are all still here and not giving up. We are the greatest aren't we!!!

Well I am down 1.6 lbs this week. I certainly was not on point this week so any drop is a welcome surprise. Hope to be a bigger loser next week !

Good Morning friends.......so I saw a loss of .6 lbs since yesterday. Not much, granted however it means I saw 310 on the scale for the first time in years!!!! Also means I am within touch distance of 309......I love the feeling of reaching that next 9 at the end of weight. Which puts me a short hop away from 299!!!!

Ok.....a lot of rambling but anything that motivates me right :carrot:!

Hi Everyone!

Back from my sunny beach vacation. Will weigh in tomorrow - it will be interesting. I had a fairly OP week. I'm pumping H2O today, as you all know, even when On Plan, restaurant food is salty etc.

40lbs- You go girl!!!!! Doesn't it feel great!
Congrats also to Country, Vicki, Stlrsgrl

Sandy - I hear ya. I havent' lost that much since the beginning of this challenge, but I'm going to hang in there.

If we all focus on our plans, it will come off.

I'll check back in tomorrow.

Have a great OP day everyone!

Way to go on the big loss, DrivenByAmbition!

To my great disappointment, when I stepped on the scale this morning it read just a hair shy of 170. (I have an old analog scale, so it's not very precise). That's the same number, 3 weeks in a row! But I was down to 168-169 earlier this week, so I'm stacking it up to TTOM. I've been at this losing weight thing for about three weeks, and I started just after my period, so I have no sense of how that affects things. (I normally go by the old "how tight are my pants test)... But I've been mostly OP, and working out a lot, and the pants are looser, so hopefully it's just water weight!

I'm headed out of town for a big conference this week - pretty much all meals from a buffet or served plated. Any tips for staying OP when travelling? (It's a great hotel and supposedly has a nice gym, so I should be able to fit in my workouts, at least.)

OK, so I gained 2lbs on vacation. I'm up 1lb over my challenge start weight. YIKES!!!!
The bad - I've lost a couple of weeks.
The good - There would have been a time when I gained way over 5lbs on vacation.

I'll just keep going.
Congrats to all of you who are having success!!!!
Congrats to all of you who are struggling and staying with it!!!!

DrivenBy, congratulations on getting to Onederland. I know what a huge step that is & you should be so proud of yourself!

Roncy, I hear your frustration with the scale. I was bouncing around at 184 for almost a month, but it finally gave in & seems to have finally dropped. Now I'm bouncing around 182. LOL

I love the fact that my jeans that were previously too tight are fitting the way they should now & my jeans that used to fit pretty good are getting a lot of sag to them. It makes me forget all about that evil scale.

Annie, great mind set. Get right back on woman & don't give up! Woohoo!

Hope everyone has a great OP day.

Hello everyone! Sorry for taking so long to check in. I hurt my lower back a few days ago. It's so much better now, but it really hurt when I did it. I'm still exercising through it but taking it really easy. Obviously, no waist twisting disc for me for a while.

Congratulations to everyone who has lost weight since I've been away. Vicki, my goodness...you are so close to being in the 200s! I'm very happy for you.

I have no idea what I weigh. I didn't weigh in on Saturday after I found out I had gained weight after that one meal. I want to try really hard staying super strict on my diet and exercise plan (limit the salty meats) and weigh in this coming Saturday. I'll tell ya...I am so sick of the 190s, ladies. I have been here waaaaay too long. Time to visit the 180s for a while. :D

Good morning ladies!!! I have not been AWOL, just a super busy week for me. I had my weigh in this morning and was down 1.9, so I was happy with that. I am on week 2 of C25K and it is getting easier every day.

I am at work so I haven't had a chance to go back and read everyones posts for the past week, but I know you are all doing well and sticking with it!!! Hope to have a chance to catch up tonight and will post more then.

Everyone have a great day and keep drinking that water and move, move, move:)

Congrats to all who have made progress. To those who aren't having the results they want, hang in there. I know my weight has been bouncing erratically the last few days and I don't like it, it makes it really hard to stick to whatever it is that you are doing. So, like I said, hang in there.

I am down 2.9 lbs this week and am thinking my goal might have been more than a little ambitious... lol. So I am now putting in a caveat of reserving the right to adjust it (o:

Hello my friends! This week has been crazy at work but there were no party lunches so it made life easier. I have something going on in my stomach - my Google diagnosis is an ulcer but I see the Dr. on Monday for his input. The good news is I have not wanted to eat the past 2 days since it hurt. This had me go from 309.9 on Wednesday to 306.2 today. Ok...not really good way to lose but sometimes I will take the loss where I can get it. :)

As I was reading thru the posts it made me really grateful for all of you. This forum provides along with a challenge, a place to be supported and completely honest. I have really got from this that it doesn't matter if I lose 1 lb., 5 lbs. or gain a lb. in a week. It matters that I have a place to be honest about it and that I don't give up. That is what I get from all of you. Thanks and

Hi Everyone! I got into the Girl Scout Cookies the last couple of nights - enough said. I will buckle down today and tomorrow for a Monday weigh-in. Yikes. After coming back from vacation with a 2lb gain (not too bad) and then having a fairly decent OP week, I'm disappointed. I can feel the belly bloat. Anyway, I got them out of the house.

Here's a thought for myself - I ate too many cookies. Yes, I over ate. But..... I will not hate myself. I will not do the self-loathing thing. I think if a thin person overate, they would just say "wow, that wasn't good, I'll have to cut back somewhere else." Would they emotionally punish themselves?????

Can we focus on the remedy and not do a character assassination on ourselves? We must do this to succeed, otherwise we seek food for solace. I know we all say "get back to it, today is a new day" but do we really take it to heart for ourselves. Do you guys get what I mean?

Sandy - Sorry about your back. Take it easy, and it will heal up quicker.

Vicky - I hope all goes well at the Dr. Whatever it is, it will be good to know about and deal with.

Fiyah - My weight has been bouncing around too, but I know why ;). 2.9lbs is fabulous!!!! Congrats on that.

Kandd - Loose jeans - a huge Victory.

Have a great day On Plan everyone!!!! Love yourselves.

I would say eat salad with dressing on the side and drink mainly water. Maybe you could fix you some things to take with you.

I think my scale is broke.. When I didn't have one I based my progress on how my pants fit.:D

OK, so I gained 2lbs on vacation.

We all gain weight on vaction. Can't but to eat all the good stuff that you never get to get at home.

I love the fact that my jeans that were previously too tight are fitting the way they should now & my jeans that used to fit pretty good are getting a lot of sag to them. It makes me forget all about that evil scale.

If your dr comferms with your google diagnosis then that will suck. Ulcers are no fun I use to work with a girl that had bledding ones :(

I have to say that I love this forum. They really are some good chics here. I can actually be honest and no one really judges you gals are all supportive. when loosing weight and being obese like me it feels soooo good to have support..

Omg I had a couple of girl scout cookies about a couple weeks ago. A guy that flys at my club brought some and I couldn't say no lol. So after eating a couple I was like dang that was good. I went to walmart and the girl scouts where there selling cookies... I try to get my bf to buy me some but he wouldn't :(

Yea thin girls get down on their selves. Anarexic chics are bigger critics about over eating than we are. You are right we shouldn't get down on ourselves when we eat to much. Go you for not beating yourself up, especially since they where girl scout cookies. No one can hold back from those YUMMMMY sooo good should be illegal cookies:D:carrot:

Well I am having a ok op day. I am going to the field today and get some flying in. It helps relieve stress as long my bf don't rake my nerves lol... I fly RC planes(not toy ones from walmart) the ones I fly cost from $50-$5000 depending on the size and what you put in it lol. I have vid of me flying on my youtube if ya want to see. my user name is countrybarbie22...Also you have to check out matt botos on youtube he a heli pilot at my club and rated number 6

I went flying yesterday and tried to get in as much walking as I possibly could. Walking from one side the field to the other. I plan on getting as much walking in today also.

Sorry for the long post just thought quoting would make it easier on me. This is the only forum that don't quote or multi quote lol

Good Monday Morning everyone!

I had a horribly off plan weekend. It started on Friday with drinks & dinner with friends at the Mexican restaurant, continued Saturday with my girls night out & after the club munchies. I was sooooo bad. But, it was my first off plan weekend in two months. But it totally destroyed a weeks worth of hard work. Lesson learned. So I'm back on plan today & will have to work harder to recover from the weekend.

Hope everyone had a much more on plan weekend than I did.

Hello all! I have been sooooo busy lately, but it's been a good thing =) I miss 'seeing' you gals daily but hopefully I'll find a groove here pretty soon... still adjusting to having a newborn in the house (even if it is only a few hours a day, 4 days a wk... it's still an adjustment!), and now ball season has started for my oldest boy and that's always got us shuffling around! Oh... and we uncovered the camper this weekend, so let the camping season begin! WHOOP! So yes, busy in all good ways =) I stepped on the scale this a.m. to find I'm the exact same weight as last week, JOY! :dz: TOM is here so I really didn't expect to see a drop. In fact, since I've started this weight loss journey I've learned a lot about my cycle. 1st wk- very little or no movement on the scale (up or down), 2nd & 3rd wks- water retention, usually up a lb or 2 or 3, and I've been getting my whoosh around wk 4. We'll see if this remains true this cycle. If so I won't see a loss for another couple wks. I hope all you beautiful ladies are doing well, I hope to be back in full swing sooner than later! XOXO :D

Oh... and let me just add: I'm really not feelin I'll meet my goal weight this challenge. Which SUCKS. But, it happens. I won't quit trying, I'll re-evaluate and update soon. Have a fantastic & OP week everyone!!

Hi all,

Hope everyone had an okay week out there.

Kim, I have had that kind of weekend many times myself and I know how disappointing it is to watch all your hard work go down the drain. But you have worked hard, and I'm sure you'll be able to get back on track with no problem.s

Angie, I'm so jealous that you live somewhere warm enough to start camping season! Hopefully the great outdoors will inspire an even more active life. Enjoy!

Hello lovelies!

I feel like I'm missing out by not coming here as often as I did last year during these challenges. But, on the good side, my house has never been cleaner and I'm finally sticking to my exercise program 5 days a week, since I'm not living on the computer any more. :D

Hey Beauties!

Just finished catching up on all the goodness I've missed these last few weeks.

First, THANK YOU to everyone who shares their stuff here. Vicki, you described my experience to the word -- losing weight has become almost secondary to recognizing what unfolds in this process. One important "aha" moment was to admit how much I procrastinate - especially when going through a rough patch (at work, at home). There is no promise in the attitude that "I'll deal with this tomorrow." For me, tomorrow comes and I'm pulling out another excuse.

All the encouraging posts I've read here tonight allow me to recognize some part of my own experience in everyone's story. I feel an immediate connection and my emotions get a bit of a workout too! :carrot: I cheering the victories reported, and empathizing with the challenges some of us are facing (finances, relationships, career, etc).

Nothing much else to report. Just very thankful for the opportunity to share in this challenge with you.

Hugs,
Jean

Good morning all. I love coming here & checking to see how everyone's doing.

Yay for Roncy! The scale has finally moved for you. It's so frustrating not seeing it move with your hard work, but you persisted & look at that big drop! Great job!

I'm dreading my weigh in tomorrow because I'm pretty sure I will still be up a little despite being very strict yesterday & today. Plus I'm still not feeling 100% from my cold. Just a little wore down & no ambition to do much exercise. Making up for my bad behaviour this weekend stinks! Next weekend I'm going to be very good.

Have a great day all.

You ladies are all so inspiring. I know in the past, whenever things have stalled or just not gone as I had planned, I would throw my hands up and eat junk (don't want to name it because I don't want to get my brain thinking on it). Reading about how others persevere, and then to see their success has really helped me stick to it.

I have had a really good week, I am down 5.7 lbs this week, and completely out of the 290's. My doctor would like to see one more week of really strong effort, then he is cutting me off so to speak. He says that he will want me to go to a maintenance diet for a few weeks. He says it will help set the weight so that I will be less likely to yo-yo back up to where I was. Of course I want to keep going, but this is working, so I am going to follow his instructions and change my goal a bit. I want to reach 285 by next Wed, then my goal for the rest of this challenge is to maintain 285 +-2 pounds for the remainder of it.

And as said above, the support here is great. When I'm discouraged, it's so nice to know that most of us have had or setbacks & have learned, moved on & are still hanging in there & losing weight. It helps me to not give up. Thanks for that!

Have a great day ladies.

Good morning ladies. It's a beautiful spring day here in Michigan. Yesterday it ended up being mid 70's & it's supposed to be close to the same for the rest of the week. Spring has sprung.

I'm so looking forward to getting my bike out of the garage & doing some cycling. I didn't ride it once all of last year. Partly because we moved & I wasn't too familiar with the area & a total lack of sidewalks around here. But over the winter I discovered a wonderful long bike path & a couple of parks nearby that have bike paths as well. I'm just not sure about the ride to get to them. But I am going to ride this year!

I'm still being very strict this week. No snacks until I hit that 10 pound mark! On Monday it will have been 10 weeks since I started & I will hit that 10 pound mark before then. Darn it!

How's that for determination?

Fiyah, great job on your weight loss. You're almost at 20 pounds for this challenge! Wow!

Have a wonderful day all.

Italiannie

Kandd - You go girl! I love your spirit, that 10lb mark doesn't stand a chance!

Fiya - I agree, this group is inspiring and helps me to stay focused. Sometimes all we need is hope and encouragement.

Hi Sandy, and gang.

So, everyone, I lost my 2lb vacation gain, so I'm back to my ticker weight. I feel pretty good about it. I would, of course, love to see more pounds lost, but I'm sticking to my plan and that has to be enough. I'm in it for life!

Have a great OP day everyone. Hope to hear from some of you. It's quiet on the boards this week.

Can't seem to stay motivated. Way too stressed out between working full time, part time grad school, 3 kids, a husband, 12 pets, a house to take care of, and volunteer work. I look forward to graduation next spring...then I'll have some "me" time again. I did work out 3x this week, but was aiming for 5x. And now positions are being cut in my school district which is also adding a lot of stress. I think my job's safe, but no one is completely sure. And even my sleeping is not giving me the down time I need. I wake at least 4x per night and actually wake up more tense than when I laid down. My weigh-in is Monday and I'm not looking forward to it. But congrats to all of the ladies who've lost. You keep me working towards my goal!

03-17-2012, 05:23 PM
Argh! Does someone in Heaven not love me very much? Seriously...since last Sunday I have been on Scarsdale (I did add some olive oil with my veggies at night and substituted the cottage cheese with greek yogurt, but it actually has more protein/less carbs than the CC), and I put in 4 workouts and moved around more doing extra chores this week. The scale showed a measly 0.2-pound loss! This is starting to get more than frustrating. I used to lose 8-10 pounds a week on this diet, but with my substitutions and being older, I would have seriously been happy with a 2-pound loss...but 0.2?

I know getting older and going through menopause slows down your metabolism, but THIS much? Not fair at all!!! :(

But I really am happy to hear about how successful all of you are doing. It gives me hope.

Italiannie

Sandy, Hang in there. You're doing all the right stuff. Don't forget that stress can make you hold on to pounds, too. You may find you drop several pounds at once, very soon.

We love you and we know you will succeed, it's just a matter of time. Don't give up!!!!!:cheer:

Thank you so much, Annie. I think you're right. I have set a goal to get into this skirt for Easter that I bought last year and didn't fit into it then either. I know I have to lose at least 8 more pounds and/or 2 inches on my waist in order to wear it comfortably. So I've been exercising my waist area like crazy. But I think I may be overtaxing my body, because I am constantly sore. I need to ease up and give my poor muscles a break.

And I was pleasantly surprised to see a drop this morning of 0.8 on the scale! So, one pound in about a week is not too bad at this point in my life. I'll take it. :D.

Hope you all had a good weekend!

High 70's this weekend meant it was time to get the bike out. I washed off the cobwebs & went on a ride. I don't know what I was thinking! I used to ride 20-30 miles at a time, but I hadn't ridden in almost 2 years. So I got about half as far as I wanted & realized my legs were getting pretty sore. There was no way I could go all the way where I wanted to go & come back, so I decided to turn around & start heading home.

Good thing too because the last mile or two was ****! I made it home, barely. lol. To my best estimate I think I went about 15 miles. Which doesn't seem like much, but a lot of my riding was on either dirt roads or the side of the road which is also dirt & a lot harder to ride on than the pavement that I'm used to. I think I will be investing in a bike rack this week as there are some wonderful trails around my new house, just not a good way to ride there.

I love my house that's more in the "country", but boy do I miss having sidewalks. That's why I didn't do any riding last year, but I missed it & am determined to do a lot of it this year.

Sandy, I hear you hon. I get discouraged by only seeing a weight loss of 2 pounds after a month's worth of hard work. It seems so hard, but then I have to think that it's taken me almost 20 years to put on this extra weight, I can't realistically expect to take it all of in 2 months.

Plus, maybe since it's becoming so hard to take it off we'll remember that & make sure we don't ever put it back on! That's what I'm hoping for!

Have a wonderful Monday all!

Kim

Nice work, Nicki! :carrot:

Kim, a 15-mile bike ride is nothing to sneeze at. Way to go!

And you are so right about the slower loss making us remember how hard it is to lose. Believe me...there was a part of me that said, "To heck with it. I may as well eat what I want!" when I saw that tiny loss on the scale Saturday morning. But I did actually stop that thought almost immediately and replaced it with, "Yeah, right! And then it would take you another 2-3 weeks to get off what you'll put on in a day or two of binging." I was actually proud of myself for realizing this. After all, what did that way of thinking ever get me in the past? Nothing but a cycle of weight gain/weight loss (more gain than loss unfortunately). And look...I was rewarded with staying on track that day with a bigger loss of 0.8 pounds the very next day! :smug:

Hey, maybe I'm puttin' on my big girl panties and growin' up!

I am loving this weather... This weekend and today the temp was 80 and so nice and bright and beautiful outside. My bf lost his job, but thank god we are getting support while we are looking... We have been looking for another place out in the country... I am tired of the city and want back out in the country lol.. We have been packing and lawd how mercy didn't know how much stuff we had accumulated of the past year lol.... I have gained alot of weight from stress and stress eating.. I am trying to get out the house more and soon we move back out to the country I will try to get out and walk.. I hate walking in the city it not as nice as walking in the country...

I have not weighed since thursday so I am afraid to... I really wanted to loose weight by spring but didn't work like I wanted to.... I am hoping that since it spring I can get out more..

I think I need to start looking for things to workout for.. Like walking in relay for life and breast cancer walk... My birthday is in June so I am going to try and looke 25-40 pounds by then...

So for the long post/vent, but it seems like that I haven't been on here in ages and needed to say that to someone.....

I really need some motivation, well actually energy

Hey ladies,

So nice to hear that everyone has been sticking with it. Kim, I think that's definitely an impressive bike ride! And Sandy, you have a great attitude. I know how frustrating it is to work so hard for something and not see the results you want, but I'm sure the changes are happening, however slowly!

I had a pretty good week, started building Couch 2 5K into my regular fitness rotation - after just one week I can feel a difference in my endurance and I'm actually enjoying the running parts. Perfect timing, as we had June temperatures all weekend, so I got to enjoy a lot of play time outside. (I also had to give in and have a cold pint on a patio with my hubby, but I don't feel too bad about that as I'm calorie-counting and staying within my range).

The scale was down to 165 on Saturday, but when I weighed in again this morning it was 167... step off and then 166... step off and then 167, etc. I think it's time to break down and buy a more precise scale! I know this might be cheating but I'm going with the lower number for today's weigh-in. I certainly feel a pound lighter than last week!

Roncygal, I'd take the lower weight, too. Congrats!

So, I know someone had mentioned it a few posts ago, and I've been thinking about the next challenge, too. Should we be daring and go for a July 4th challenge? I know we usually do 4-6 week challenges and a July 4th one would be a span of 3 months, but I guess it all depends on what the majority wants. If we want a shorter one, we could do a Memorial Day challenge and then the July 4th one. What do you guys think?

Oh, and I came up with a cute July 4th challenge name based on a Katy Perry song: ~*~Baby You're A Firework July 4th Challenge~*~
What do you all think of it?

Sandy, great job on staying on track. We will get there, it may be a longer journey than we wanted it to be, but eventually we'll get there. Another thing that I've been told is that when you're exercising hard your muscles tend to hold onto water to repair themselves & you might see a big whoosh. IDK if it's true, but that's what someone told me when I was being down about not losing like I think I should (every day lol). I haven't seen my whoosh yet though.

Roncy, go ahead & take that pound, you've earned it. I hope you enjoyed that cold one this weekend. I'm not a huge drinker, but I do like an occassional mixed drink. Since I've started this diet I've only had a couple, but would have loved one this weekend out on the deck.

Barbie, you just need to start hon. Once you get started moving more you'll discover that you feel better & you will want to move more. I'm discovering that about myself now. The more I do, the more I want to do. It's just the getting started that's hard. So start moving Chickie! :)

Have a great day ladies.

(Let me try this again... I hate it when I do stupid things and loose a whole bunch of typing and have to start again... grrrr)

Well, my doc says it's time for a maintenance period. He wants me to stay at my current weight for 6 weeks (well within 2 pounds, so I might still make my adjusted goal). With the weather getting so incredibly beautiful, I can get out more and work on toning and endurance, so even if I stay at the same weight I can still work on loosing inches (o: One thing I will say... I noticed this week that I actually have a neck again :D I mean seriously, it is amazing to me to look in the mirror and see an indentation between my jaw and my shoulders!

Kandd... It sounds to me like you have determination's butt kicked!

Italianne... To only gain 2 pounds while on vacation, and then to get right back on track like you have is wonderful; GREAT JOB!

Bethann... Stress is a b****. It sounds like you are doing a great job at making time for yourself, and that is a beautiful thing.

Sandy... What a reward, maybe you deserve some pretty, new big girl panties as a treat for sticking with it... lol. It's easy to do the right thing when the road is smooth. The true test of character is doing the right thing when the road gets difficult. Awesome work!

Nicki... Keep up the great work (o:

Barbie... I know packing and moving is hard all on it's own, but how about turning it into a workout routine in your head and setting yourself a mini goal for when you are moved and unpacked?

Roncygal... I agree, take it (o: 1 pound is still a difference of more than 1/2%, which is not bad at all.

Rlb... You did blow by it. I will be interested to see where you end up as well. Keep up that momentum!

Yay! I finally broke the percent of a pound streak! Of course now it's looking like I won't meet my goal by the end of the challenge, but I will not revise it. I'm just going to try like heck & if I fail so be it, at least I tried! I'm almost at the 10 pound mark. I know my ticker says 10 pounds, but it doesn't seem to recognize the numbers after the point. lol

Rlb, great job on meeting your goal! I love to see people smash their goals. I tend to be a little overly ambitious. For the next challenge I'm going to be a little more realistic with my goals. :)

Fiyah, you will probably still end up losing weight without even trying. You've probably improved your eating habits enough to see a little of a loss each week. You were having some huge losses these past few weeks.

Sandy, I'm already part of a July challenge, but whatever you decide to start I will join. I really like this group of ladies. Everyone is so supportive & I would love to see all of them reach their final goals!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning ladies and HAPPY SPRING!! The temperatures have been so nice here that I can't make myself stay inside and be on the computer. Which is why I haven't been checking in as I should. Last week I didn't check in on my weigh-in day to post my weight...I was up .2 and blamed it on my TOM. On todays weigh in I was down 2.3, so all that exercising outside is working.

After quickly looking back over everyones most recent posts it looks like everyone is continuing their hard work and reaping the benefits!! Keep it up ladies, all our hard work and effort is paying off!! Have a great day:)

Tlbrwn, awesome job on your loss this week! The weather's been great here & it's really hard to have to stay in the office when I can see how nice & sunny it is out. But I've been doing a lot outside off from work so at least I've had a chance to enjoy the weather before it's back to spring.

Ladies, I know I don't post regularly enough but I just have to say how encouraging it is to log in here and see you all sticking to it. And to see some of you totally blowing your goals out of the water (rlb, I'm looking at you). WAY TO GO!

I had a horribly OP weekend. It was BAD. It started with a buffet lunch reception with open bar and carried on at a pub all day. There were cheesy things, there were deep fried things, there were beers, and, dear god, there was even poutine. (For those of you unfamiliar with Canada's most significant contribution to world cuisine, poutine = fries... topped with gravy... topped with and cheese curds. It is a heart attack on a plate). Somehow despite this horrible day, I managed at least not to gain any weight. I embraced this morning's run with great vigour, and vow to have a serious loss to post for next week. Wow, I did not even realize that it's been a week since I've been here. Here's a clue if anyone wonders why I disappear for so long: When I don't post often, you know I had a terrible weigh in on Saturday (gained back 0.6 on the scale). :D I just don't want to come here and bring everyone down with my blue mood since it just makes me sound like a broken record at this point.

But I can't hide forever, right? So, I've decided that since calorie counting, low-carb, Scarsdale and every diet in between I've tried from Woman's World, that I'd give Slim Fast a try. I remember doing it years ago, but can't remember how I did on it. I do remember my dad lost quite a bit of weight on it though. I'm just getting to a point where I'm tired of counting either calories or carb and just want Slim Fast to do it for me. ;p Plus, it's easy to just grab a shake and a piece of fruit for a snack if I'm on the run. Keep your fingers crossed that it works.

And, yikes! I didn't realize that just 8 cans of Slim Fast are so expensive...$16.99 at Ralph's. I ended up getting the Kroger brand at half that amount. I checked and the ingredients and nutrition label are very similar. Ridiculous what Slim Fast charges. I'm going to look and see if I can get them cheaper on Amazon...if it even works for me this week.

I'm glad to hear that so many of you like the July 4th idea and title. I will get that set up on Monday to give people a week or so to sign up for it.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

I have to recommend Special K shakes. They taste way better and actually have more protein. And they are much cheaper. An 8 pk is about $10 at Walmart. The one time I actually stuck with the Special K plan I lost about 5 lbs in 2 weeks. Plan on trying again starting tomorrow.

Well I am reporting in for this weeks weigh-in with a big goose egg...0.0. I'm not sure how I feel about that. While I know that I over did it a couple of meals last weekend, it never stops frustrating me that being even a little bit off track can sabatoge a whole weeks worth of efforts. There are days I feel like throwing in the towel and this has been a whole week of them:( Oh well, enough of my pity party. I have stayed OP since Tuesday and will not stop until I get there.

Good morning Ladies.

I'm feeling a little discouraged today with my weigh loss. My weight is going down, it's just taking forever! I see people pulling these big numbers & I get so frustrated with my .2, .4, .6 pound per week weight loss.

So I've decided that this week I'm going to shoot for a calorie deficit of at least 1,000 calories per day. This should give me at least a 2 lb. loss & hopefully stop my b****ing. LOL my weigh ins are on Wednesday, so this will give me a day or two to plan my meals & get my shopping done.

I'm calling this my 7 day challenge. :)

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning everyone. I was pleasantly surprised this morning at my weigh-in and was down .5. I know that isn't alot, but considering my horrible eating this weekend I will take it and run!!! I am happy to see everyone sticking with their plans and continuing with all their hard work. It sure is nice to know I have a place to come to where everyone understands the ups and downs of weight loss!!

I am continuing with my walking almost everyday. I do 2 miles at lunch and then in the evenings I do another 3 1/2 miles, which includes doing C25K. I started week 4 this week and think I might be there for awile. Then I try to do Jillian Michaels 30 day shred at least 3-4 times a week. I told myself if I can successfully complete this video I will treat myself to her new body revolution workout.

I hope everyone has a pleasant Easter weekend. I am looking forward to the next challenge!!!

Hi all! I got up the new challenge here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chicks-up-challenge/256415-baby-youre-firework-july-4th-challenge.html

Hope to see you all join over there. Even though I didn't do well this challenge, I'm gearing myself up for the next one and not setting my goal weight for that one too low.

WOO! Got on the scale this morning and I weighed 162. I made it to my goal of 10 pounds! These are my first 10 (well, first 11 really,) and I know the first 10 tends to come off easiest, and I won't always have losses like this, but for now I am celebrating! For a long time I didn't think it was gonna happen.

Congrats to those of you who made progress, met your goals, or (like Jen) blasted them out of the water! And to those of you who didn't make much progress as you'd like, I'll see you over at the July 4th challenge, where we will amp it up and conquer those goals together. (Thanks for setting that up, Sandy!) Thanks for the support over the last month and a half, ladies!

Great job ladies on your weight loss. It seems like a lot of us have made their goals (not me unfortunately) but I am happy for those of you that have.

I will be updating on my WI day which is Wednesday. I did take a peek at my weight this morning & was very unhappy with a 2.5 lb. gain because I have totally busted my butt this weekend working in the yard. But I'm hoping by Wednesday I'll be more like my normal weigh ins.

Look forward to seeing you all on the next challenge!

Blech, I feel completely bloated. My cycles are very irregular, but I think one is about to happen, and my weight is up, oh well. I did loose 19.3 pounds during the challenge and I'm doing really well maintaining my current weight. I have about 3 more weeks of maintenance before my doctor will give me the go ahead to go back to loosing. I am looking forward to my next weightloss period, and I think my mom is going to do it with me. She is about the same size I am, so I am even more excited about the both of us getting healthy together!

Congrats to everyone who worked this through to the end! In my opinion, life is about the journey rather than the destination, so keep it up and see you all next challenge!
