Low Carb Archive - HUMP Day - Wednesday, February 26View Full Version : HUMP Day - Wednesday, February 26 Ruthxxx 02-26-2003, 08:16 AM Good morning all! Starting us up. Will be back shortly - we slept late and the doggage need attention. Ruthxxx 02-26-2003, 08:33 AM Well, I definitely do have a cold but it is not going to get me down! I went to the next town yesterday afternoon and stocked up on cold capsules and some zinc lozenges. I can handle anything but not a stuffy or runny nose along with feeling lousy. Does anybody else get carb cravings when they are sick? I am craving a toasted bagel this morning but will do the egg bit again. Kevin finished the shelving yesterday by noon but I didn't drag the stuff back in yet. Maybe today. I sure have a load of stuff for a yard sale! (Don't fret, MEW, I didn't ditch anything that's part of your inheritance! ) We finally got the lane ploughed by noon which sure helped make the day better. Having a cold without Library books is a drag. A Church pal, Kathleen, is coming to dinner tonight. She is a divorced woman who lives in the next town and is pretty needy. She also is a major "conversationalist" (motor mouth) so DH may just take himself to bed before dessert! He doesn't make a graceful exit - just says "Goodnight" and leaves! It beats being bored! We eat dinner late so it's not as bad as it sounds. K. has lived in European embassies a lot and does have some interesting stories so it may not be so bad. I got two calls yesterday from folks wanting to see my PWD's with a view to buying one! One couple are coming Sunday after Church to see the Girls. We warn people about the energy level of these dogs and Lucy is a greate example! There are no puppies available right now but Hershey will have one more litter before retirement. Lucy has another year before she is bred. Morna loves it when I pre-screen folks for her. I'm rambling and had better get on with my day. I hope everyone is in good shape and managing to stay OP. nettie34 02-26-2003, 08:54 AM :) Good morning! Ruth, does pwd stand for Portugese Water Dogs? Am I close? They are gorgeous! We have a German Shepard mix puppy, who, at 5 months definitely does not look like a puppy anymore. Still is a ball of energy, though. I hope that you start to feel better soon. It's miserable being ill, especially without reading materials! I tend to crochet lately, because if I'm in the middle of a book, the world around me (children included) gets ignored. Its easier to set down the crochet. Well, the coffee is on, both boys are sick AGAIN, and it is gloomy and chilly out. The weather man is calling for sleet later in the day, so that will put the state into a state of near-panic. Having grown up in Michigan, I don't quite understand, but ...... I hope everyone has a great day! Be well, Annette goodforme 02-26-2003, 09:06 AM Hey everyone. Slept late this morning, almost made dd late for school, then I made myself late for work. Oh, well, they can do without me for 15 minutes. The weight is still dropping, I haven't stepped on the scale, but my pants are ridiculously huge now. I am waiting for summer before I go get new clothes. The cold is still lurking, I am going to the doc tomorrow to get some relief from the 3 cold sores in my nose. Ewwwwwwwww!! Sorry to have been absent lately, missed a couple birthdays and some sadness. Hugs to all that need them. Love you guys, talk to you later! Having grown up in Michigan, I don't quite understand, but ...... I understand, totally! I grew up in Pennsylvania and just don't get the panic that ensues in central VA when the snow comes. This winter, it actually seems like a Yankee winter! Real snow that sticks around for a few days. But this was par for the course in PA. Just another winter day. I think the kids will be going to school until July at this rate. "I had to walk to school in 6 feet of snow uphill both ways!" nettie34 02-26-2003, 09:14 AM Goodforme, you have my sympathy today: sores in the nose hurt sooo bad! I feel for you! I'm glad you're pants are loose, good job! :dancer: Pooky 02-26-2003, 09:49 AM Good Morning everyone! My car was frozen (again!!) so I took dh and Miree to their respective places. Good thingis when I got home I coaxed it to start so it is now warming in the driveway. I don't blam it, it was -25 this morning and tomorrow night they are calling for -28!! Going to make sure the car is plugged in this time :dizzy: I am however, revelling in the lovely gorgeous sunshine we have had for the last 2 days. My thoughts are on spring and I pulled out my calendar to see when I can start some of my seeds. Looks like the last week of March for a May long weekend plant. Right now I am hoping it warms up enough on the weekend so I can get in the garage and pull out some of my planters, etc.. to get them cleaned up and ready to go. I already know I am going to have to get more peat starters and some more trays, but I am wondering if I have enough for a secondary plant before the big trip outside. This year the garden HAS to be gorgeous since my inlaws are coming this year--talk about pressure! I have a gardening question to all my gardening chick friends: I had to split up my peonie bed in fall because it hadn't been done in just forever and it was also in the wrong location (being dwarfed by a maple tree). It snowed sooo early in the fall that I couldn't get them transplanted so they sit on a sheet in my garage. My question is can I plant them in the early spring and hope to gosh they come up or am I doomed to wait until fall to replant them? Oh and same goes for some bulbs I have that were surrounding them--but I suspect I am going to make Easter pots out of some of them. Boy do I babble or what? LOL Have a good day everyone! Miss.D 02-26-2003, 10:12 AM Morning! Sorry Pooky--I have a black thumb--not a green one! I looove flower gardens--I just don't have the patience to have a good one, I usually start all gung-ho in the spring and early summer, then by mid-july in 100 degree weather--I say--Forget it-I'm not pulling another weed-and then my flowers go KA-POOEY!! It ain't pretty around here--I BEG my dh to buy all the flowers-then kill them. It is a good thing DH is better at sticking to it than I am-he always has a wonderful huge garden filled with peppers, corn, tomato's, onions......I love summer! Ruth-your evening sounds more interesting than mine--taking the girls dancing--again, and maybe stopping to sign Alyssa up for softball--that's about it! Nettie--I hear you about the snow--I'm in Ohio-and the snow usually does not stop us--this winter has been exceptionally bad though! maxsmom--sorry about your loss, you have my sympathies. Well girls--I gotta go start networking--gotta get some work--need extra money!! Taz--you sleeping in girl?? Hello to all that's here-and those yet to come--have a great day! miss tazcat 02-26-2003, 10:14 AM Morning to you. Just a quick one as must get the house back in order. I took another day off as we had a leak downstairs that led to ripping up carpet, that wasn't so bad, but the underlay:eek:. I don't know what I did to my left sholder but it will get some heat and some rub as the day goes on ;) . Well chicks until later,Tazcat Ruthxxx 02-26-2003, 10:19 AM Well, Pooky, I sure hope your garge is cold. Peonies need to freeze in the ground to bloom in the spring. Bung them back in the ground as soon as you can dig it. You may lose some blooms this year but they sure should not wait until fall. I haven'e a clue about the bulbs, I'm afraid. I force bulbs by planting in the fall. (Note to Self: Buy peat pellets to start seeds) Well, the phone rang a few minutes ago and Kathleen cancelled out! Whew! I lucked out! I'd forgotten we both had a meeting tonight. When she heard my croaking voice, she informed me that she would make my excuses at the meeting and ordered me back to bed. Imagine a British Headmistress voice and attitude! So I said "Yes, Ma'am" and with book and herb tea am heading there now. Sigh! Life can be good! Pooky 02-26-2003, 10:39 AM Oh yes, Ruth, I forgot to mention there is no heat in the garage. I figured cold in the ground and cold out doesn't relaly matter, does it? I mean what doesn't freeze in -28 temps? LOL So I can go ahead and plant them back in as soon as I can get a shovel in the ground? WHEW!! And take care of yourself, I just got over my cold so lots of hot tea and lozenges, OK? And rest!!!!!! :nono: :D Leenie 02-26-2003, 11:01 AM Good Morning Eveyone :) scooby2 02-26-2003, 11:11 AM Good morning sickies and chickies!! Ruth get thyself to bed!!!!! RobinW 02-26-2003, 11:32 AM Good Morning Ladies Doing well here, managed to get thru a 2nd op day with only a minor slip up (slice of whole wheat cinnamon raisin bread) Loaded up on the fats yesterday as Ive been really hungry. Today should be even better. Ive got one of those "withdrawal" headaches.....Ive had it for about 2 days, so today being the 3rd, Im hopeing its the last. Maxsmom, Im sorry for your loss. The catalogue you asked about is for the store I have here in Buffalo. Not much else new here......Have a great day ladies Robin  Tilly........where are you? tammy fancy 02-26-2003, 12:10 PM Good Morning ALL! Jacob has the flu again and we are having a PJ day. My families in the daycare are wonderful people and no one was angry about finding other childcare for today and probably tommorow. Not sure what the temp is here but it is freezing in the house. Either that or I am getting sick too. Anyone know how to get grease out of a coat? Jacob has a grease mark on his sleeve which he is upset about. He hates to be dirty which my husband blames on me. I am a bit obessive about my hands and especially my feet feeling dirty. I would probably wear slippers to bed if Hubby wouldn't laugh. Not much else new. I am far behind on the posts so I will go catch up. Tammy nasus40 02-26-2003, 12:45 PM Pooky I understand oabout the frozen car. My car doors will not close untill i have it ruiing for about 20 min kiss the gas i have ti bungied for now as i do not have the time to wait every time i leave the car. as for me I am having a day off but now have to run way all over the place to get the trash out and all kinds of stuff. UGH. I hate these days it seems every day is like that with no time to do the house like i need to. let alone get the taxes ready!!! the next two weekends are going to be busy asi willb e working 2 in a row to get off for the states for the boys swim meet. life here is fun (not) and busy!!! I hate it!! lost and spaced 02-26-2003, 12:51 PM dishsoap works well on grease as a pretreatment dyan_q 02-26-2003, 01:10 PM Tammy - There's a product called "Greased Lightning" available at Wal-mart for about 3 dollars (white, yellow and black bottle in the laundry aisle). It takes out everything. DH got oil on a white shirt and I scrubbed it out with no problem. Word of caution, it will also take off skin if you have prolonged contact with it. Wear gloves. I hope everyone stays warm and OP today. Although those with colds are excused from being OP. (It worked for me. I wasn't OP for a week with that cold, and when I went back OP I lost 4 lbs in three days. So eat up...or not. ) I'm a little anxious about this weekend. We're going to New Orleans for BIL's wedding and an extra night to do Mardi Gras. I'm the only one on Low Carb. I don't plan to drink, or if I do it's only going to be 1 drink, but what the heck am I going to eat? I need to re-read the Atkins chapter on eating out. I've just avoided it since I've started back in Dec. What food travels well? Maybe I can just pack my own. I'm also worried because in-laws don't seem to understand that I must eat every 2 hours or I get sick, as my blood pressure drops quite easily. Grr. I can't wait but I'm also worried about this whole thing. LindaBC 02-26-2003, 03:45 PM Ruth, did you get my e-mails or do I have the wrong addie again? Hope you're feeling better soon, girlfriend. Tammy, I seem to get a lot of grease stains in my t-shirts and sweatshirts. No doubt it comes from sticking out too much in the front and generally sloppy eating habits. :o I learned that if you drench the grease stain with WD40 and then soak it well with any liquid detergent (let it sit for about 20 min) then wash as usual, it takes out quite a lot. It would seem strange to use a lubricant (oil) to get rid of an oily stain but apparently you need oil to get the grease to release its hold on the fabric. It freaked me out the first time I tried it but with a bad grease stain, what have you got to lose? Thanks for the reminder about stored plants, Pooky. I forgot I have dahlia bulbs in my garage stored in sawdust and I'm hoping they haven't rotted. Our garage is quite warm. I don't usually pot them up as they can go right into the ground in April. In fact, often I just leave them in the ground and they are usually fine. I don't think we've had a deep, hard frost all winter. I have geranium (pelargoniums actually) cuttings rooting on the garage window sills. It's amazing to me that most of them have survived my neglect. I absolutely refuse to start seeds indoors anymore. After nurturing the spindly little things for months on window sills, they usually croak the first time they're put outdoors. dyan_q 02-26-2003, 05:00 PM I say we all swap plant cuttings. Too bad we probably can't do that thru the mail. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
