I think her report is at 8pm central. I saw it advertised on CNN Headline news this morning. All week she's doing diet comparisions. I'm willing to bet a LC chocolate bar she bashes the Atkins diet.

GinaMarie 02-25-2003, 01:03 PM Thanks for the FYI Dyan! Fat Sensei 02-25-2003, 05:04 PM Bash away! This diet has been around since the 70s, so it's not a "fad" diet. But, it's a successful diet, so lots of people follow it. But again, it goes against the "conventional wisdom" that fat & red meat are bad. Therefore, it's an easy target for lazy reporters looking for sensationalism. peach pit 02-25-2003, 05:11 PM Ya know, there is something about a size two person discussing diets that just gets under my skin! Maybe she will prove me wrong and I will have to eat my.....words! peach Fat Sensei 02-26-2003, 08:48 AM Well, I watched the report. It seemed fairly unbiased. Unfortunately, Atkins doesn't lend itself well to a 5 minute sound-bite. you really need to do more research to understand it. It can't be summed up like, "Eat less. Excercise more." For example, there was only passing mention to the phases. No detailed description of induction or how it differs from OWL, etc. nettie34 02-26-2003, 08:57 AM I had meant to watch this, but I got side-tracked. By the time I got back to the tv, it was over. Was it really only 5 minutes? Miss.D 02-26-2003, 10:17 AM Shhesh--I got all excited thinking I was gonna have something good to watch on TV tonight--it was on LAST night wasn't it?? Oh-well, another Wednesday night reading! 5-minutes?? I think old Katie gave him longer than that! Miss Fat Sensei 02-26-2003, 02:42 PM Well, it may have been a minute or two longer than five, but it wasn't very informative. She stopped the Atkins rep. when she was describing a typical dinner (salmon in this case) and said, "Everyone thinks all you eat is steak, where's the steak?" or something to that effect. And they kept showing film clips of BBQ grills overflowing with steaks & burgers. They took two viewer questions/comments. One was a guy who asked why everyone he knew on Atkins gained all the weight back. Everyone? The only other person I know of on Atkins is my sister (and all y'all). All the others must be keeping quiet. Of course the guy never said that these people stayed on Atkins maintenance phase. More than likely, they went back to high carb diets. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
