I know when I take some time to make myself look better, I feel better. If I feel better about how I look, then I act better. If I act better then I loose a few pounds. So I was thinking that it is pamper time. Last night I lotioned my um... baboos as my son calls them. I get such dry skin in the winter. I had been neglecting them. I think we should all plan 3 small things we can do this week to make ourselves feel better by looking better. Mine are going to be
1) manicure
2) pedicure
3) eyebrows plucked
4) shave-not just my pits and my ankles either!
1 and 2 kinda go together....

Great idea flower!

This week I will:

1) give myself a spa treatment : manicure, pedicure & facial :goodvibes:

2) read a non-work related or non-educational book - I will read something for the sheer guilty pleasure of it :)

3) treat myself to a special coffee or tea that I don't normally have-like a latte or frappucino :T

hmmmm. I don't generally "pamper' myself with goodies like manacures or *shudder* pedicures (no one but the person I am married to should have to look at my feet!) but how about:
brouse an antique store
call (not email) an old friend
listen to some old LP's from the 70's and remember. (I can smell the patchulli now!)

I had a vanilla creme from Starbucks today :T

One pamper mission down, two to go :)

Tonight when I go home from work I plan to have my spa night!

Nice bath with my favorite scent, candles, a glass of wine, followed by a manicure, facial and pedicure :) Bliss!

And then I will start reading that self-indulgent book that I promised myself :D

Ellis .. you and Den would relate well with my daughter. ;)

I'm going to get my nails filled and I'm going to shave and take a bath this weekend. So there. Even if getting my nails filled is almost just more like another errand to me because I've been doing it for ... 10 years or something. Yes, my nails are one of my great vanities. Cuz I want to have bootiful hands. And if I don't wear acrylic nails I rip my fingers to pieces. I'm sick like that. Then they bleed and I have bandaids on and they hurt and it looks really stupid .. so .. I wear acrylic nails. *ahem* TMI, I know. :D

Ellis-SPEAK FOR YOURSELF!!!;)

(Actually, I have already done that so I can slack off now!! )

heh heh heh.
You know, when I was really sick last week, I took seven baths in five days. I sort of slacked off with the teeth though. :dz:

Raven, does your daughter suffer from severe depression and have a hygiene problem? Or is she just a normal kid?

Last night I was lying in bed after my bath (yes, I actually had a bath last night!) and rubbing some of my new Body Shop Nut Butter cream into my knees and hands. I had this sudden thought that maybe I'd become a girl with nice nails. I spent a huge amount of time rubbing cream into my cuticles and pushing them down. (well, on one hand, anyway! ) They looked really good in the lamp light. Next morning they looked the same as they ever did, so I've decided that being a "nice nail girl" is NOT for me! :D

well my daughter is anything but "normal" whatever that is anyway.

personally I think she has some theological aversion to water.

My DD (13) is pretty good at bathing, but the hair washing thing...! I swear she must just put a dab of shampoo on top of her head and rinse! What's the point in washing your hair if it's still going to be greasy!! I think we need to put a shower in. These claw-footed tubs are lovely, but a shower is quick and accurate.

I had an nice pamper time experience last night....
Went and ate Thai food (ate only half and took rest home for breakfast this morning :) )
Watch 3/4 of the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life (it's called Talk to her)
After we walked out on the movie, went and had a full-fat double espresso mocha.....yum!!
Now....off to the treadmill

Ellis-I LOVE those claw foot tubs!! We had one in the flat we used to live in. One of our cats would circle me on the top of the tub as I bathed....and sometimes fall in!!! He would freeze for a nano-second and then shoot out of the tub like a banshee out of ****!!! (And then shake off all over the bathroom!!)

Blackbird-I like Thai food for breakfast too!! But nowadays I have to get to it before my kids do!!!

I finally got to my eyebrows!!! I did it while coloring my hair, well while I was waiting on my hair color. No matter how careful I am, I always get drops of color on something. This time a big plop on my rug! I hopefully got it rinsed in time!!! The price you pay for beauty! :)

Okay, Den... we've got three. I'll trade you one for a shower. :D

We had company this weekend and I gave myself a quick skin-tightening egg mask. I was hoping I'd look as though I'd had surgery, but it didn't quite have that effect. Guess I'll just have to lose weight...

I am about to descend into a hot tub of bubbles and will emerge from it looking like Venus. Then I will slather wonderful scented lotion all over my lovely body. (I have to be ready in case Bruce comes to call.)
Maybe I'll do a cucumber facial just to be sure.

dentrassi
03-03-2003, 03:53 PM
Ellis-You can hook up a shower in the existing tub!! And a circular shower curtain around it. The best of both worlds!!!

Ruth-OOH!! Sounds WONDERFUL!!!!

ellis
03-03-2003, 04:00 PM
Yeah, do you know how much that costs!? And then one of the kids slips and grabs it for support, and the whole damned thing comes down.
I may end up putting a stand-up shower in the basement...

I need a whole new do-over. We need to start a cheap spa for fat girls.

dentrassi
03-03-2003, 05:57 PM
Ellis-GOOD IDEA!! Then when you are done gardening you can go straight down to the basement and shower!!! Also, great idea about the cheap spa....Someplace that pampers us and doesn't cost an arm and a leg!!!

Cheap! You mean with eunuchs? Too cheap for me! They'd probably use cheap canola oil for the massages. And I want smoked salmon and caviar, not prem sandwiches on white bread! Let's have some class!

Hi Ladies. I have a spa at work and I am the first one to volunteer for facial classes and massage lessons. I long to have a career as a Guinea Pig (did I spell that right???- you get the drift.)
But for now I have to settle for the bubble bath.

Ellis- We moved into our house in May and last week I FINALLY hung a shower curtain so I am LOVING the showers!

My mother taught me if I did nothing else, I should always do my toes. (or have them done) That is as important as wearing clean undies!!!!!

ellis
03-03-2003, 11:12 PM
Sarajane, I can barely REACH my toes!!
I love showers, too. I've got long hair, and it's so much easier to wash in a shower. AND I suffer from terrible tension in my back and shoulders, and there's nothing like a stinging hot shower to relieve some of the stress! I've GOT to get one in. I'll probably do as Den suggested first... I just wish the shower plumbing fixtures for a claw-footed tub weren't so expensive!
When I was pregnant with our DS, I had dreadful neck pain but couldn't take any pain relievers. I used to stand in the shower (at our old house) for almost an hour. It felt GREAT!

Yuck! Prem! That's revolting. Who the heck EATS that stuff? And Spam. http://www.spam.com/
Look. We could join the spam fan club. And get spam gifts.

Ruth, you just want shrimp toast. :D

I prefer hot baths. I like to soak in them and read.:D Sometimes taking a quick hot shower and then running a nice hot bath is nice too...the air is steamy, and you are already clean so you can just relax......(drool).......

NOT that I get to do either with the kids around!!! DS the younger always seems to need something as soon as I get in the bathroom and pull my pants down!!!!!

blackbird
03-04-2003, 05:25 PM
Cold weather can sometimes be wonderful !!!
Me and DD had major pamper time today, as it is like 10 degrees outside. We soaked our feet, slathered them in lotion, dawned mud masks, did our hair etc...etc...
Extra pamper for mommy.....I shaved! This is only the second time in the last year that-that has happened. I mean when you get really depressed, you really just don't care. It only took an hour and I ruined a new razor...but what the heck...
kinda seems weird though...

Den, you're so lucky... I'm too uptight to read in the tub. I TRY to do it. I get all settled, but then I'm anxious and just want to get the heck into bed to fall asleep. So I'm out before I've read even one page.
DH and I were just talking about putting a hot tub in the basement. (not seriously, but it WOULD be nice!) I think I'd relax in there. If there was someone around to drag me out when I fell asleep. :D

Did you hear that? Blackbird has similar problems to us! I haven't shaved under my arms in ... oh... 4 years. Now it's become a fashion statement as far as I'm concerned. And the legs get attacked a couple of times a year. But when I lose weight and become a babe, THOSE are going to make a fashion statement, too!!
Blackbird, what a lovely time you must have had with your DD! I've done that occasionally with my daughter. Sometimes we take photos. (I dunno... just to prove for the future that we DID have quality time together?! :D )

I did the bubble soak last night. Had to dress rather nice today and the legs HAD to be shaved.

Ellis- I had 14 inches cut off my hair- but I know how much easier the shower is. Check Antique Malls and Flea Markets for the fixtures. If you are willing to clean them you can find good deals.
We had a house with glass door knobs (from the 20's) on every door and I loved them, until I priced new ones due to the knobs stripping, and I 'bout died! I found a lady with a box in her basement. Got them for pennies. They had to soak in windex for days, but they worked.

I bought a "mommy" book and boy am I enjoying reading it!!! My little ones want to read it, but they are old enough to ask what some of the phrases and words mean---- and I am not going there YET!!!

60 days to Quebec!!!!!!!!!

I don't shave either!!! NEVER do the underarms any more because I either get ingrown hairs which itch like crazy or the deoderant starts to burn. Once in a while I do the legs, maybe twice a year.

Yeah, I had a bath last night. And I brushed my teeth this morning.
ACTUALLY, I put on lipstick this morning! AND creamed my face. Oh, and I put mascara on my eyebrows. (covered up those white ones) I decided it was time to get out of the house, and I did a big shop for groceries and went to the library, paid off a $55 fine  and got some books out. I'm absolutely exhausted now. Medicine, a book, and a nap for me!

You chickies just kill me! Yes, I'm the one here that showers and shaves everything everyday. :o I'm glad I read this thread because it reminds me that I need to continue pampering myself. Perhaps today I will exfoliate everything in the shower...

We have a hot tub outside on our deck... it is absolutely fabulous and I highly recommend it. There is nothing better than running out there at night in the dead of winter and sliding into 104 F degree bubbling water. Sigh.

Sojo-can I come over??? I wish I could have afforded a jucuzzi when we moved in here! I love them!

I am a bath girl. Showers are only for:after gardening, at the beach, at the gym, or after I have sprayed the house for bugs. I would die without a daily bath!!!!!!

We wouldn't have been able to afford it either. When we were searching for our first home we came to this little tiny 100 year old house (only 950 square feet) on the island right next to the lake and a big park. We loved it when we walked inside... lots of woodwork, all hardwood floors, rennovated kitchen, two little bedrooms, a teeny bathroom, tiny yard with beatiful landscaping and gardens and lilac trees, two car garage even. I was all ready to make an offer half way through the house and then we walked out back on the deck and there was the hot tub built right in to the deck underneath this arbor with vines growing all around! Well, then we had to have a serious discussion about whether or not we were buying a house with a hot tub or a hot tub with a really expensive dressing room! Well, the price was definitely right so we went ahead and made an offer. I love this place and am so happy we chose it. I will be very sad if we ever move.

Sojo, your house sounds like a dream! Hmmm, you're not at all a depressed person with a hygiene problem, are you. ;) My depressed artist neighbour and I determine the depth of each other's depression by how clean we are. Hi all - I bought a new bra today!! (Lane Bryant sale!!!) This is a rare thing for me. I wear them until I have to put safety pins in the straps! The one I have on today is missing underwire on one boob! (My mother would die!!!)

I walked past Victoria Secret and saw this gorgeous nightie! It is a beautiful coral color and I will buy it tomorrow when I get paid and hang it up by my bed for inspiration.

I am all for Bert's Bees!

Yes, it's stupid to save those things. I do it, too, but I've resolved to stop being ridiculous and just USE them! I just have to think of the two angel soaps in my mother-in-law's bathroom to get me going. They're about 30 years old, dusty and cracked. Disgusting. Use them or throw the damned things out!!

When I am depressed I mope around until mid-afternoon in my jammies and then finally crawl into the shower at around 3:00. Although if I am really depressed I might skip a day, but I hate feeling stubble on my legs and my hair looks like a rats nest so that isn't too often.

This is a great topic. I am not too good at pampering myself. I'm working on that though. I am most definitely a work in progress. Three years ago, I had a health scare when my doc thought my number would be up within months. I had all these nice candles that I had never even used at that time. Well, I do fire up new candles these days, but pampering myself is still not one of my best events. Let's see, today I will take a long, luxurious bubble bath. My friends are giving me a birthday party tonight (my 50th-Ugh!! birthday was on Tues.) and I will not do any chores or things on my "have to do" list-just relax and enjoy the afternoon and this beautiful sunshine, and of course, my party this evening. Well, take care, all.

hello all!

thank you for the birthday wishes, ellis, raventoy, dentrassi, and flower! i appreciate it! i had a wonderful 50th birthday party. i thought it was going to be a small dinner party and instead it turned out to be a large surprise party, which was delightful. one friend came in from out of town. other out of town friends were asked by the hosts to write some bithday thoughts and wishes for me which one host read out loud. i was so touched by everyone's kindness and all the effort it took to pull off this surprise, which had been planned starting over a month ago! it was amazing and i had a great time. surprisingly, 50 is turning out to be pretty good after all. talk about pamper time---i was pampered big time last night at my party and i enjoyed every minute of it. well, thanks for listening. hope you all have a good evening. take care.

Sarajane, enjoy your vacation, hon! I'm in the same boat. Sort of. It's March break, and I don't have to get up to get the kids off to school. Which means I COULD be sleeping right now, but... what can I say... I'm a morning person! :D

wsw, what a delightful evening you had... I'm so happy for you! We should EACH be proud of our age... whatever it is. Every day gives us a little more experience... a little more wisdom. I feel that every day I'm a little closer to getting to know the real me. And I hope that that "me" is kinder and wiser and more loving and tolerant than the "me" of today. Because that's what I'm looking for. :)

OKAY! So where the **** am I?! Ah! Pamper time! Well, I've got yoga this evening with DD, and we're really looking forward to it. It's bizarre. You sit in a darkened room for an hour and a half performing gentle movements and meditating... if I actually thought about it (which I just DID  ), I'd think, "No way I'm sitting still for that long!!" But it's a total "me time", and I love it.

RavenToy
03-10-2003, 09:29 AM
You know, Ellis, the more you talk about yoga, the more I wonder if my daughter and I shouldn't try it. I wonder if I could convince her to go... once.

ellis
03-10-2003, 10:09 AM
Raven, I hope you both try it and love it. My daughter is seldom enthusiastic about anything, and it was a real joy to know we'd "hit on something she likes". We've had her in ballet, swimming, skating, baseball, etc. To boost her self-confidence. And while she did EXTREMELY well at everything, she never got excited about any of those programs.
I don't know why she feels differently about Yoga, but I feel it's something that will make her a stronger, more confident woman.

A word of advice if you DO go. I discovered that the worst problem with being an overweight woman is trying desperately not to pass gas during the class. I'd eaten a fairly heavy meal before I went, and I was VERY uncomfortable. Today I'm going to wait to eat until after the class.
I noticed that one overweight male kept leaving the class last week. I thought maybe he was going to get a drink of water, but now I think he kept leaving the room to let one rip. :D

RavenToy

HI all!!! I am down to the last day of my vacation and I am seriously considering quitting. I have been able to take care of SO many things this week and I am SO happy. The kiddies were out of school today and the whole family went to the mall. (just hope the hubby can stay awake till 7 a.m.) We had needed to buy new shoes for tennis lessons and spring in general and I had put it off. Quitting the job would be the ultimate pampering! I know I would want to go back to work soon, but I would like to be off for a couple of months.

Well as for pampering today- I will take a bubble bath and put the non frizzy stuff in my hair. I shall watch a "Chick Flick" as well...
