I was wondering do canned lentils and chick peas have a lot of sodium. I do not want to make them and I have high blood pressure and was wondering if I rinse them off will most of the salt be gone or is there too much cooked into them.

Yes, they do. The amount will be on the label. Almost ALL canned foods contain salt. I just looked at canned black-eyed peas in my pantry. 1/2 cup contains 480 mg, or 20% of MDR. I use canned beans sometimes, but ALWAYS rinse them to get rid of a lot of salt.
You should try to keep sodium to 1300-1500 mg a day, if not less. I recommend that you look at the DASH diet. There are good resources for it on-line.
I was looking at this just the other day and found out this:
sodium free- less than 5 mg
very low- 35 mg or less
low- 140 mg or less
reduced-amount reduced by 25%
unsalted-no salt added
I hope that helps.
