Support Groups - Slow Dancing with A Stranger {6} "Salsa"

Hi Everyone :wave:
After much consideration, I have decided to start a thread for a unique group of losers.
Consider the following scenarios. If more than one apply to you, this just might be the thread you've been searching for:

:yes: This diet/lifestyle change is such a slow process for me, even losing 0.5 lbs or 1kg is a struggle.
:yes: I am frequently changing up different foods in my plan because what I ate worked last week, but it's not working this week.
:yes: One week, I ate everything on plan and gained weight, but another week I pigged out and LOST! WTH??
:yes: I've been at a plateau for so long, it's my new middle name!
:yes: I do ____ for exercise, but my body becomes used to the workout, and I am frequently having to switch up my routine to continue to see results.
:yes: I have been On Plan for so many days/weeks/months without seeing a downward scale movement, I'm ready to QUIT!

Well, before you rush right off and toss your stilettos, platforms, pumps, or boots in the closet, come have a "Slow Dance" with me! I often feel like I am a stranger in my own body, because I am constantly having to change up food and exercise and my scale still doesn't budge. This is not a challenge, but more of a daily accountability, support group, & learning experience all rolled up in one!

I will start a new thread 2 times a month (around the 1st and 15th of the month) to reflect progress, accomplishments, and/or set backs! Feel free to post food choices, exercise routines, motivational words of wisdom, or anything else you feel lead to share.

Disclaimer: If you lose weight quickly and easily and have it all figured out, this is NOT the thread for you!

Hi Everyone!

Since Kristiina suggested Salsa, I figured we could all try the steps to this popular favorite and learn some exciting new moves for the 2nd half of this month. Come on, put on your dancing shoes and Salsa your way across the dance floor!

I am so glad to be back taking care of me instead of other people. This weekend was so stressful at work, & I just want to REST!
I have had a great one eating-wise. I planned on Friday and stuck like glue to it! :carrot:

TOM came exactly as planned on Sunday, so I won't weigh again until maybe Wed or Thurs of this week.

Here is what my weekend looked like. PLEASE share yours! Since many people struggle with sticking to their plans on the weekends, I feel it is important to share what the strategies you use to help overcome the temptations as well as expose the ones that won the battle.

I remember last year when I struggled at work so much. I know the triggers, some of which included smelling other food that I didn't cook, even if it didn't look good or something I wouldn't typically eat, just smelling it would set the trigger off and convince me I needed to feed myself. Another trigger was easy access to food I don't buy and keep at home, like vending machine snacks. I try to divert away from the middle isles of the market. Stick to the perimeter of the store--that's my strategy!!

There were so many weekends I lived in defeat. I think by having the Spike Day and knowing there are "x" amount of calories during each meal I must eat in order to make it to 2800 is what kept me OP this weekend. Also, planning on Friday as to what I was going to eat using the MFP app. Usually, I can't do this b/c I never know what I'm going to crave. HOWEVER, my cravings are diminishing!! I'm not sure if it is all the extra running or the different choices of foods I am making or perhaps a combo of both, but I LOVE not craving highly processed carbs!

Another thing that keeps me OP is eating before I am STARVING!

Ever come home from somewhere or just get up in the morning and you're starving? You'll grab anything you see and stuff your face with it. It doesn't matter if it's OP or not.

Easy access food is a good thing if it's the right kind of food!

A habit I have developed is Once A Week Planning/Prep Day. I take one day a week (sometimes 2) and make individual snacks & meal preps. It typically takes about 3 hours. I make up my cottage cheese and Greek yogurts for a few days in individual containers, separate 15-30 grams of nuts/trail mix/granola in snack zip locks, cut up fruit and put it in individual bags/containers. I even make crock pot meals and measure them in single servings.
This strategy of planning keeps me OP every week, and when I come home or wake up starving, I can grab one of these and know it is perfectly ok to eat!

Kristiina: Yes, some women do gain a significant amt of weight before and during ovulation. Once they ovulate, the water is released and they are once again able to wear their "skinny jeans"!! ;)

My scale is evil, evil and EVIL! :D -- I usually step on it each night before bedtime, and I can estimate how much I will weigh in the following morning. I usually drop about 1.5 pounds overnight. -- So I stepped on it and it read 151 (3 times, to be sure :LOL: :) I was sooo excited because I was 151.5 yesterday morning AND 151 at night would mean 149.5 in the morning... I was almost morning came and I ONLY dropped 0.5 pound during the night :tantrum: I did not even get 150 :( BUT 150.5

Sounds silly but that 149.5 is a huge mark for me...oh why oh why are you so evil my scale?

Had a huge NSV today.
I go jogging along the beach to c25k podcasts. I live a 5 minute walk away from the beach. There are work out machines set up by the beach, however I've always been to intimidated to use them. Been afraid of looking foolish. Anyhow, today I ventured out of my comfort zone and used a machine.

I felt worse.
I talked to my sister, who told me my mom was going to see Brandon--our chiropractor.
I dressed, got myself together and went to see him!
I haven't been in about 2 months!!
I adjusted sooooo well!! But, he took my breath away.
I can't exercise afterwards.
I made dinner, but didn't want it.
I had a similar treat posted on my blog (1/2 of it actually) for dinner.
I feel weak and drained.
I'm returning to bed.
I'm not hungry, not even for dessert. ((STRANGE))

I had off plan day as well, but the opposite. -- I think I was ovulating and I was just really snacky. -- It was my "spike" day... I have not tallied the calories up :( BUT scale was 153 :eek: this morning; gained 2 1/2 pounds :( :(

I did walk tho.

So today I am totally OP. -- I think my Friday weigh-in will be bad :(

Sorry about your back Krystal. I just went through back ache as well, and it took my chiro nearly 6 weeks to get me going. -- Are you getting sick?

Kristiina: I feel you love on weighing. I haven't even stepped foot near mine & won't until I absolutely HAVE to, which may be Sat or Sun. I have to weigh once a week for the plateau challenge. UGH! Otherwise, I probably wouldn't weigh this week. You know how you can tell you're fat just by looking at yourself and putting on your clothes?? Yep! That's me. I hope I am not getting sick. I think I just waited too long to go for an adjustment.

Tomorrow is going to be an awesome day for me. I am going to see Jeanie, my massage therapist for an hour and a half of pure torture! One deep tissue massage coming right up! It'll hurt tomorrow but Friday will be blissful, and I'll be able to run again :yay:

Today has been OP for me, unlike yesterday. I did BodyRock and the exercises for my Plateau Challenge, then my K9s and I went for a 35 min walk. We had a great day. Eating is OP too. Things are defo getting easier & since I have cut out most of the high-processed carbs/food, it makes staying OP much, much easier.

We are missing a few members. You all are missed. Please pop in and let us know you're still around and alive ;)

Hullo! I was directed here after posting on the weight loss support board. I'll copy and paste what I'd written there to see if you ladies think I'd fit in this group?

I've been away from the boards for a long time, in large part due to the fact that I've had to set weight-loss very low on my priority list due to several long-term health issues. I hadn't completely given up on it, but I haven't been able to make it a focus. And sadly due to flare-ups I recently had to let exercise fall to the wayside for a while as well.

I'm slowly getting my day to day routine glued back together, and I want to put my weight on the to-do list again.

But, do to said health issues I'm going to have to very slowly get myself back into everything to avoid another crash like I had a few months ago. If I don't gradually ramp up, especially with exercise, I know I'm gonna set myself way back again.

The kick-in-the-butt tough love motivation is really awesome, but not what will help me right now.

Hi all!

I'm still here. Nothing to report. I'm bopping around the 188-190 range due to TOM and overeating. Hopefully, I can get back on track and see some nice losses soon. The overweight BMI category is so close, I can taste it. And it tastes like chicken! :T

i tried to post here yesterday but the site was too slow and i couldnt type on it seems to be working

im still holding right at the 200 mark...had a very rough couple of weeks with my major ear infection...where 4 different types of antibiotics weren't helping it and i was in alot of pain through my face...finally they gave me two injections of powerful antibiotics in my hip and that seemed to clear it up...i saw an ear specialist and he said the infection was gone, my eardrum was not ruptured, and gave me ear drops to balance out the bacteria left in there...he said my hearing will come back but so far it hasn' i'm not too worried

in between all that i was working out as much as i could but for about 5 days in a row i didnt because of the awful pain in my face...this week i got back to 3 days of running and developed a terrible blister :( one of those kind where you can hardly walk, so its all bandaged up and healing and tomorrow i will try to run again...i had a board of directors meeting this morning about the statewide education conference and didnt have time for running...

have kept calories right around where i should be keeping appetite seems to have leveled out again to where i'm eating and wanting to eat...weight was up to 205 while i was super sick and pumped full of medications but it's dropping again as everything clears out of my right at 200-201 today

went shopping this weekend for some new warm clothes...bought two tight, long tees from the junior section in an XL Junior size and also bought a tight black hoodie size XL from that same section...they are tight and warm, which is exactly what i wanted...last year in january i was wearing a 2X or higher and couldnt have fit those styles from the junior section...and i would not have worn anything tight or clingy last year but my tummy is much flatter that was nice :)

I had a deep tissue massage earlier today & I did my workout at 2am instead of not doing one. I'm so glad I did! My massage therapist asked me:

"Do you have a trainer that's helping you with your running?"
Me: "No. I just use Hal Higdon's Novice running schedule and do for core."
Her: "OMG, how do you stay motivated for that?"
Me: :lol: {{laughing for real}} "Are you kidding me? I am the least motivated person you wanna meet. I'm just dedicated to doing it. If I depended on motivation, I'd still weigh 20 lbs more right now!"

I am amazed by my way of thinking from 9 months ago. I like who this process has forced me to become & although I am a bit compulsive, I like it way better than when I had no structure.

Friday & the weekend starting tomorrow.
How will you plan it to be a continuation of your goals? or Will you once again be defeated by poor choices, lack of planning, and cravings?

I desire to continue my healthy lifestyle beyond the hours of Mon-Fri.
I desire to continue my plan when I have zero motivation.
If I continue to practice my plan or develop a new one when this one ceases to work, I will continue to press forward instead of constantly taking 2 steps backward!

I had the worst week!! I had no motivation, worst ovulation and snacked and ate too much! 153 as my official weigh in :( :( 2 pound gain. -- I am having winter blues I think. Just feel blah.

Oh well, these kind of weeks happen and I just have to leave them behind and move on.

It is COLD! 3 degrees this morning. -- I will take a walk; since the last one I took was on Tuesday.

So I skipped journaling for 3 days, back doing that... I won't let myself slip back to my old habits!!! :tantrum:

alaskan - Sorry to hear of all the trouble with the ear infection. That all sounds super sucky. Glad to hear the infection itself has cleared and no rupture though. Great job on trying to workout and a HUGE CONGRATS on your NSV!!!!! :dance:

Krystal - I love how your mind works! Motivation is what starts us on our journey (or renews our desire), but sheer determination, drive, and perseverance is what KEEPS us on the path and doing the right things. As for the bedroom - my DH loves it... then again, he has finally learned to keep his mouth shut on the decorating end as there have been many times he has expressed worry that something won't work - until it's done and he loves it. Now he just hushes and let's my vision go, LOL! Win-win! Oh! And for a plan... after talking to my mom last night, her and I have decided to "up" our cardio this week - and I am also upping my water intake. I think both have lacked enough to help my body through the "ugh"s, :D

Kristiina - So sorry to hear of your crappy week :( Shake it off as a new week is starting. You have the knowledge and tools to do this ;)

I've been trying a new tactic. 2 days 1300-1400 cals, 2days maintenance cals. Awoke "feeling thinner" :dizzy:this morning, hence the .6lb difference to the good. Not sure if a fluke or just on to something. Still feel a bit bloated. I've also lost .25 inches from waist, so 1.75 inches until initial goal.
Continuing with the hand weghts and walking indoors, sholved snow, a couple of times, the places close to the house the blower and snow plough does'nt reach.

After reading My Plateau Nutrition Story (, I am convinced I am NOT eating enough.
I just don't know how many cals to eat. That's pretty sad after almost a year into this. I may invest in a FitBit. All of this trying to figure all the numbers out is really getting to me.

Krystal Something GREAT happened today!!

P and I were taking our walk, and conditions were horrid; so much snow. We hiked 4.6 miles, and I was totally soaked.... I have been lacking motivation and I was not really excited over this super hard workout....P kept saying but just think about that bikini! -- So I said, I need some short term goals. -- I said once I fir into this size 8 outfit; silk pants and silk top from WHBM, we will do a really nice dinner out. I said it probably fits me 10 pounds from now. So once we got home I pulled out my size 8 box and the pats FIT! I have a small muffin top but they FIT!! So about 6 pounds and the outfit will look GREAT! -- So I decided to try out my size 8 jeans, and they FIT! And are not even tight!

Maybe an off week was a good thing. I think the 2 pound "gain" is sodium.

I made a really yummy dish last night;
Really this stuff was soo good!! -- I browned the chops for a minute or two per side and then I braised them in beer and chickenstock for 40 minutes. -- I served them with homemade roasted potatoes. I wanted to keep eating more but I stopped at one serving :)

I did buy a "new to me" dress this weekend, size M, and it's a little roomie, but the color matched a pair of shoes I bought 4 yrs ago to a tee & for $8 USD, I HAD to buy it!! :yay:

hi everyone,

I am really hoping that this will work this time...for the past year I have been trying to lose about 25 pounds and I have been yo-yoing. I know it is calorie intake and exercise but I have not put my mind to it. I am ok most of the day until I get back from work and then I eat in front of the tv at night- mindless snacking. I really need help and some motivation.

Krystal ... only 2 pairs of 8's fit :D -- It just kicked my motivation back. -- I was reading about the spike day...I used to diet like that, I think I told you about it. I lost 30 pounds, very easy, and I was only a few days away from my cravings... Sorry about the Merlot! -- I am glad i am completely avoiding alcohol because it always started my binge eating and all those bad cravings :( BUT it was only one day and I know you will overcome those sugary wants...sugar is worse than heroin, they say :mad:

No weight change for me; 151.5.

I had a low calorie day yesterday, 1118 cal. Not intentionally. I ate bfast kinda late and I was busy all afternoon until about 3:30 when I realized I had not had any lunch. -- DS and DH were starting to complaint about being hungry, so we had an early dinner around 4:30 pm. I packed in 850 calories on that meal and I was STUFFED! I did not have an evening snack either....oh well, I will add some extra calories today. I am burning a ton of calories each day by walking, and at times I feel a bit I may be under eating....

I think I will try the Spike Day diet as well...., and I think I may need to trick my system some.... Saturdays will be my Spike Days; I can start eating out with friends again :carrot:.... But only lunch :eek: I want to stay away from alcohol temptation :lol: I learned something from Krystal here :D

I have planned, so far 880 calories for the day. My goal is 1400-1500 for today. -- We will walk our 5.2 mile loop, and DH wants me to start doing more weights and core, so I may do some weight training today as well....

K9O sorry for your sugar craving but you are pretty disciplined, so give yourself credit for that.;)

Sum, Hoorah for fitting your sz 8. Those surprises are always welcome.:carrot: Isn't that a wonderful feeling! I've been having a similar experience with clothing.

NSV I've started to sort clothing for upcoming trip and for possible move in summer. almost everything from last summer is too big! also had to get rid of more winter clothes, including coats.:D
So I have another bag full for Hospice and a new shopping list!(I can only replace one or two pieces at a time, but look forward to it.) I can take in the waist of some trousers and have them to wear for a while( I often have to be grungy anyway, so those are fine) even though the thighs are so roomy. It is still so strange to put on a blouse that was tight, where the buttons strained, and now overlaps! But I'll get used to it :cool:

Size 10 here I come! (in about 5lbs for my tops anyway and 2lbs for bottoms)
1300-1400 cals planned today and tomorrow.

So, I know all of you are thinking, "Yeah, she FINALLY went off plan and it's catching up with her." and Kristiina says, "Yup, she silently criticized me when I stopped logging for 3 days" (of course I noticed, we are MFP friends) ;)

HOWEVER, last night DID end on a good note!
:running: plus some floor work= 421 cals burned
Dinner was 1/2 Protein Green Monster: 274, ending the day with 1405 cals
Water: 72 oz

I WILL NOT succumb to old habits.
I WILL be nice to myself & learn from this weekend!

On top of that, I am ready to burn through this week. I have to work Thurs/Fri nights, but M-W are mine, & I intend to OWN them. I'm planning 2 days of bodyrock and 1 day of pumped cardio. I WANT this darn scale to move & if it doesn't, I want to see my abs more defined. Hey, I want the latter more than the first!!

This week, due to lack of movement on the scale again - sticking to more cardio and upping water. I am happy with how I have done so far, and have to continue - maybe Sunday will show me reward for my change? :)

Krystal - I am sure that plateau is broke, crashed, and knocked down :) Just keep away from the Merlot while the pattern is going down though :lol: Krystal I hope you do well on your upcoming night shifts - I know how hard those have been of a struggle for you. Remember though how awesome you felt to totally take charge over them last week! You totally got this! I will totally hold you to being nice to yourself: You have accomplished so much, discovered SOOO many things about yourself - you are amazing and moving forward!

Kristiina - Way to go on the 8's! I wouldn't care if it was one pair and they only fit cause they were stretched to the hill...that's awesome! :dance: Those smaller goals and NSVs sure are great to boost morale!!! I am so happy for you!!!!

Isn't it great to be a shrinking person?? :) I think we should start like a clothes swap on this site... imagine how much more use our clothes could get being swapped in between us all? Some of my coworkers and I were doing that for a bit, but now I am too small for their stuff - the smallest batch that was available was 14s and I am out of those - though making some of them work out of necessity - but my 11s and 13s fit best... imagine the folks who could benefit from my 14s. I do donate now, but wondering if a swap on here might benefit us all better? Hmmm.. wheels are turning ;)

chickhen - :welcome: Hi!!! What inspires you to want this? Place a reminder that is visual somewhere maybe? Also, get out of the routine that sabatoges you... instead of couching it for tv... get up and walk... pop in a sweating dvd... get in the kitchen and cook in advance some healthy meals for your week :) Some suggestions that might help? It's hard, no doubt, or we would all be at goal - the trick comes when the desire for reaching our goals and willingness to change our habits wins out on the desire to not change and stay where we are. I struggle with it - especially with my schedule (as the girls here will tell you, full plate + 4)... but...last year I hit the point where I desire, want, and insist on making a difference - so I can be who I WANT to be..inside and out. You are close to where you want to be, it will go slower...but how much do you want it? If you answer "a lot"... then you KNOW you will succeed this time and this site is AWESOME for support - truly! These folks here...the ladies and Larry... they are great to pick you up, give ideas, we learn from our own experiences, and also they will kick you in the butt if you need/want it ;) I wish you much success and let us know if we can be of help. :cheer: We make good cheerleaders ;)

I have been on my plan since Oct, and I am getting bored I have to admit. Also, my drive to exercise is no where to be found. I just don't want to stay where I am, (or slid backwards) I want to continue because I feel I have come along way in a short time. And I actually feel good about myself.

I need some direction and a shoulder to lean on.

Today is my rest day. -- I think I have been pushing myself too hard, and decided to walk 3 days and take a day off, walk another three...etc.

I can't find motivation to do weights; hopefully these rest days will turn into weight training days...after walking 5-7 miles at a very brisk pace in less than ideal conditions, I don't seem to have the stamina nor desire to add that weight routine in. I am way over my assigned walking goal for the month. At this rate is will walk 120 miles each month :D

I am meeting a friend for lunch. Literally my first lunch out since November with friends. I have been incredibly afraid of eating out a.k.a. pigging out :lol: But I miss my friends...and because it is a lunch, no one will be having any wine or drinks :cheers:...and we won't be able to linger into late hours, as we have in the past; eating and drinking wine; because kiddies come home from school.

Plan for the day:

I've always admired the people who can split their restaurant meals in half, take home the rest, and eat them later. I always either eat the entire meal at the restaurant or take home any leftovers and eat them later that night. I am not a person with patience or will power when it comes to large quantities of food. Put a large plate of food in front of me and I will eat the entire thing right then and there. There is no later.

I've also developed a problem with peanuts lately. Since I began this weight loss effort, I could take a handful of shelled peanuts, eat them, and leave the bag be until the next day (or grab another handful if my calories were low that day). Now, I can't seem to stop eating peanuts out of the giant 5-lb bag. I grab a handful, then eat them as part of my meal. Then, a few minutes later, I take the entire bag into the living room and mindlessly eat a peanut at time until my plate is filled with the broken carcasses of peanuts. I don't know how to stop this and it's probably why I haven't lost any weight in the past two weeks. So, someone please give me advice to make me stop eating these darn peanuts!

In that way you know you have reached your limit for the day.

Stayed on plan yesterday, 1400 cals. Today, so far so good. I can have more cals tomorrow with the cycling i've been doing but will try to limit that to +150 or less

Hello, everyone! After being the same size for the past 2 months, and having the scale hover between 169-170 for the past 4 weeks, my drive and enthusiasm is waning. I am trying to stay on program, but I am not exercising. I can't seem to find the motivation to do it or decide what kind of exercise I even want to do. All I know is that I want to start losing again, but I feel like I am frozen in ice and unable to move (literally!)

Guacamole; I hear you! I lacked some motivation...somehow Krystal has ignited my fire again! -- Maybe because I wish to catch up with her :devil: BUT we dance slow drastic weigh losses, for the most part... -- I must admit, I am staying on path because of this place....


As for me!!! I did something I have not done since I completely shattered my ankle and it had to be rebuild... I RAN today!! We went for our normal walk; plan was 5.2-6.7 miles, depending how we felt....After the first 2 miles, I decided to start running all downhill paths. I totally caught P off guard. So we ran each slight slope, kicking out buts with heels (ya...literally)...I think we ran about 1 mile out of the 6.7 miles. -- last time I was 120 pounds; was when I was running 6 miles 3/4 times per week. -- I am so freaking proud of myself!!! :carrot::carrot: -- My ankle has a ton of hardware that needs to come off (7 inch plate, 9 pins and 3 screws), I have been postponing the surgery because it means 8 WEEKS IN CAST... maybe this will motivate me to get it completely fixed.

Hello One and All!

Have been out of touch but keeping track of everyone's accomplishments and struggles. I have been having both. Happy that I am back on track with 5 workouts a week. On Monday I started dieting. Day 3 on plan and remembering why I dislike dieting! :smug:

I feel restricted when I have to count points and calories so I pulled out an old diet that a personal trainer had given me about 10 years ago. It worked then and I am hoping that it will work now. I can have 3 meals and 2 snacks. I was curious about the calorie count (couldn't help myself) and it averages around 1400 calories a day. I am hungry, but I'm committed to giving it a go. What scares me is if I am hungry on 1400 calories how many calories was I eating before???? :o

Good luck everyone on continuing to reach our goals!

Busy last night and today, but I'll catch up. Before anyone starts freaking out about Wednesday's low cals, I'll explain.

DH wanted to go visit my parents Tues. night--right at my dinner time! I couldn't make dinner, as he was impatient to go, so I ate there. I would have been ok with just Subway, but my brother bought us some Honey Cinnamon Almonds, and I helped myself to 360 cals worth of them while playing dominoes! :tantrum:

To offset the high cals and to keep my body guessing, I severely dropped my cals on Wednesday--on purpose--to offset the high cals on Tuesday.

Kristiina: I am super thrilled about your :running: This is the BEST news I've heard all day!! Just think if we could train for a 1/2 mary together--wouldn't that ROCK!!!

Gina: I had the same issue with those dang almonds. It was b/c they were honey and sugar! How the last one finally made it to my mouth was removing them from my sight! Then, I told DH to put them in his truck and eat them during the day & NOT to bring them back into the house. That is how I have had to do many foods that I just can't seem to enjoy 1 serving of. Some things can sit here for days on end, some things have to be devoured all in one sitting! :dizzy:

Guacamole: One thing I have learned in this journey: It is easier to stay OP then to get BACK OP! Same is true for exercise. I would probably be correct in saying that if you wait until you are motivated to exercise, it probably ISN'T going to happen. You just have to do it. Maybe think of it as a job…you have to be on time, dressed in the correct attire, meet certain qualifications for the job, & perform to the best of your ability once you're there. Exercise is no different. In the world of running, we say, "The hardest step is the FIRST one out of the front door!" I find this to be very true!!

ThinkinThin5 I think this is the hardest phase, first month, that is. Once you get over first month, those 1400 calories seem like a lot of food. Just hang in there!! :hug:

My scale was up this AM. 153 :(:( I can't seem to get below 150 or even stay at 151 range. :mad: -- I know I am probably retaining water weight in my muscles after yesterday, and I am within 4 days from TOM and my boobs feel like filled water balloons....

I had a busy day yesterday, I only did quick calorie entry, but eating was OP; working out the sodium, as well, from Tuesday's lunch.

BUT, I need to focus on the positive. My legs are looking really nice and staring to get quite shapely. I wore a big sweater dress with a belt and boots a few days ago, and I received many compliments. -- I only have tiny bit of fat on my upper thighs....

Well I am off to my 6.6 mile walk shortly here.

We are the ones the tv never advertises about, cause we lose slow and not the big magic numbers that some do, :lol: Just have to look at where you started, see where you are now, and know that only better is going to happen by doing the right things for the right reasons - YOU :) Make a decision, stick with it... and set a goal. Let's say if you do 5 hrs of exercise in a week (or the number you are comfortable with to start), then you can have/go/do such-n-such as a reward... positively reinforce yourself ;) Want a pedi? Make sure you hit your goal first...and no giving in - can't collect until you reach it. :) Just a suggestion of course, everyone is different

ThinkinThin - Always a scary realization to find out what we did to ourselves before, but you are taking steps to change that :) Like Kristiina said, the start of it all is always the hardest... then it just seems almost habitual :D

I am truly feeling my age today.... BUT we still did our 6.6 mile walk at a very, very brisk pace (4.2 mph).

I learned a thing about myself today. I am actually 5' 3 1/2" tall....all that counts :D

My highlight of the day. My size 8 jeans needed a belt today :eek: and my belt; I had to use another notch!! Scale may not show my progress but clothes do. -- I have a feeling I will have a nice whoosh heading my way. I have basically been stuck 151-153 range since January 5th. I had a 3 pound drop the week after TOM, when I went from 155 to 152... I am REALLY hoping the same thing happens this month and I get to bounce between 148-150 the month of February.

We promise to behave whilst you are slaving away; hehe! :devil: :devil: :devil:

Thanks for the advice! You are right, that I white knuckle through my eating plan just so I don't fall off the wagon. I know how hard it is to get back on. I suppose I will have to look at exercise the same way.

152 official weigh in.

I am taking a day off from walking, I am very, very sore. My 106 mile month is really wearing me down :eek: so I think I will scale back to 4 times per week until this insane soreness gets better. I will do weights tho :carrot: -- I tend to be a tad bit obsessive on everything I do :o

I had a good OP day yesterday. I ended up 1500+ cals. I feel better when I get minimum 1400 cal on walking days. I think I was under feeding myself.

Today I am shooting for a low sodium day. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies.

guacamole, to paraphrase what the others have said you have to just do it, one day at atime, even if that day is not your winning-est day.
Not weighing in today as I am feeing puffy. But will on the next day I do not.

On plan yesterday (a higher cal cycling day, did 1650cals) and will do my best today even though I must attend a small birthday gathering.
Must remember to drink more water today.

I had a LAZY day today. -- I was exhausted after my workouts...I fell asleep around 9 am, and napped till 12 noon....then kids got home (half days) and we decided to watch movie and I slept through that as well.... :dizzy: IT FELT GOOD!! I can't believe I slept that much! DH massaged my legs last night, and all this rest today; I feel great. Ready to do a walk/run tomorrow.

I am very low calorie wise today, but I haven't really done anything anyways :o

K9OwnerI loved what you MIL said and have decide after reading your post that I will now think of it as having a meal plan as opposed to dieting. Meal plan makes me feel like I am more in control. Diet makes me feel more deprived. I also liked what you told guacamole that it is easier to stay on plan than get back on plan. That helped last night when the wine was calling me!

KristinaThanks for the words of encouragement. I was actually so busy yesterday I didn't have one of my snacks. I could have, but I was so tired I just went to bed instead. Congrats on those size 8s and tightening your belt! That's fantastic.

My official weigh-in is not until Monday but the scale is moving in the right direction. Last night was my official weigh and measure at Curves and since December 27 I have lost 3.5 pounds and 5 inches. I'll take it!

Pretty good weekend for me. Staying at 152 pounds. Calories have been between 1500-1700. I took two days off from walking, and my muscles seem to be doing better. I think, we will walk today.

Sorry I have been so hit or miss lately on here, more miss than hit for sure!
I get so much out of these boards, I really need to do better at that.

So this is it. In my head I am liking my weight loss journey to a marathon. I have been running this long, long race, have had to slow down to a walk a few times at the end of the summer and the last month or so, but now, in the far distance, I can see the finish line and I feel like I finally have the energy to put in my final kick to the finish line. So mentally and physically I feel I am ready to give my 100% again and get to that finish line.

I am not officially changing my goal on my profile, but after talking with my doctor last week, I am just setting my sites to get under 160 at the moment and then take it from there. 160 seems so close and I think that is just what I needed mentally to give this a good go again.

Yesterday, I started back with my weight lifting and got in an awesome 2 mile run, kicked my own butt, thank you very much.

Day before that I did a fat burning interval (running) workout on the treadmill that was around 60 minutes total (not all intervals obviously or I would be dead).

Goals for this week, keep up with my morning walks with my friend-60 minutes each 4-5 times, weight lifting at least 3 days, and intervals or a good hard short run for at least 3 days.

My weight is still up, but I am waiting for TOM to leave the building so I can get a good gauge of where I am at with that.

That's my plan and I am sticking to it! :D

JO :hug: I am so glad to see you! -- And I am glad to hear you are ready to finish this off. -- I have gotten so much :dust: lately by hanging in here... I too, am ready to get to my goal.

This is usually the point where I give up. I get down to 150 range and then boom...I start gaining it all back, because scale always stalls here.... I have walked 113 miles this month, and some of you know, I am a maniac what comes to speed. I have burned 10 000 calories by walking, but I have stalled at my 152 pounds the whole month...this time, I AM NOT GIVING IN! I am refusing to look at that number...I am going by my clothes (size 8 jeans :carrot:) and measurements. I know if I stay on this path, eventually that evil scale has to give up it's stubborness and show some lower numbers. I will be patient :devil:

We had a GREAT walk this morning. My condition is getting better and I can maintain fast speed and still hold a conversation. It was snowing and the woods were absolutely gorgeous! We walked 6.7 miles. I think we will add an extra loop to get to 7 miles next time.

I have added some calories to my daily life. I think 1200-1300 calories was too little. I upped it all, we shall see if that makes a difference. I feel less tired tho.

Ok, sorry about my ramble.....

Alrighty, well....I'd like to officially introduce all of you to my counter-personality:: "Skye". She's been here my entire life, but she has only had a name for about 3 yrs.
Skye loves to go out and have a great time & usually ends up getting me in ALOT of trouble! :devil:
Needless to say, she went out last night for a colleagues birthday party and just got totally beside herself--to say the very least.
After much alcohol intake & over 3 hours of dancing, I did not feeling like doing too much of anything today. Hence, I've spent the better part of this GORGEOUS :sunny: day in bed, instead of running my long run this week!

Sum, that is exactly what I don't want to happen, give up because the scale isn't moving as fast as I think it should. It would be tragic to look back in a year and have gained all my weight back because I couldn't get my mind in the right place.
Great job on all that walking. It still cracks me up at how fast you walk. You would lap me on my best run day!!!

Did well at the birthday lunch Friday, ate mostly veggies, so I had a bite (literally, just two bites each) of cake and ice cream. Total was only 550 cals! Ate more than that at dinner at home, about 750 cals. TTL for day was 1550

Saturday and Sunday, today, were maintenance days. weighed Saturday, still just under 179 so no change. Hoping to see some reasonable movement by next Friday if I stay on plan. Would like there to be a change when I see doctor in a couple of weeks.

TOM is here :mad: -- On a positive side, scale is still at 152....I am hoping that stalling at 152 was the TOM weight "gain", and after TOM leaves I will finally see 140's :D

Jo!!!!!! Great to see ya!!!!!

Today I start training so will be stuck in a classroom all day for 2 weeks - let's hope I keep up the motivation to move after work due to that :) I don't do well being stuck in a classroom, but, it will be worth it. The extra training will allow me to have opportunities for more OT at work, and I am all about the OT to make ends meet easier when summer utility bills hit!!! Have a super day all!!!!

jo - I have no doubt you will be successful. Everyone stumbles with motivation occasionally - but you are getting your groove back on and that is where it counts!

Quick post before I have to run.
Going first to get my fasting bloodwork and man, I can tell the difference coffee makes for me, waaaaaaa.
Right after that, I will go for my walk which has been taking about an hour when there is no snow to sludge through. It is cold today, extra layers for sure. Sum, I will think of you.
After that, coffee!!!! Oh, and I should probably eat and then sometime this morning I will do a short weight workout, no longer than 20 min to 1/2 hour. I am a little sore from Sat which I thought was a light workout, so I guess I have to ease back into it. Feels kinda good to be sore again though, I have to admit.
I will hop back on when the morning settles down to account for my actions :D

JO: Nice to see you post. I'd agree on getting to one small goal, then see how you feel from there. It's no easier in maintenance range. If anything, it's harder. I guess that's why many people use body definition and exercise goals as motivation to plunge ahead because the scale is defo not going to go anywhere but up.

LOVEOFSELF: Awesome discipline at the party. I have been avoiding "cake" parties like the plague. I'd rather binge on wine than cake at this point. Basically, b/c I won't have Merlot at 2 in the afternoon, but I'll do a cake binge anytime. I also don't want that addiction again. It cost me lots of setbacks last year.

Kristiina: I'll tell you, you have many "one-ups" over me, gf. If it were 7 F in Memphis, there is NO WAY this girl would be out walking around! I don't think they make enough layering clothes for that! I hope you get into the 140s soon. I also think if you continue to stall around 152-154, you should consider doing a Spike Day for a couple of weeks. The calories for the week turn out about the same, so it's really not like you're consuming extra cals. But, you don't eat exercise cals back during the week.

Star: YUCK on sitting in a classroom again. I feel your pain there. I HATE sitting in a medical class. It's feast or famine at our hospital: you're either crazy busy and on your feet all the time OR stuck in a higher education class. I hope they don't bore you too much. Be sure to carry your WATER and some snacks in your bag so that you're not mindlessly eating, grabbing vending machine naughties & such.

So, yeah, AFM: I had NO IDEA Spike Days would break this dreadful plateau. Heck, I would have
been beyond my goal by Halloween of last year if I had known this valuable info.
While there may be a great deal of controversy about "Starvation Mode", there is NO CONTROVERSY about placing your body in a stage where you are just stagnant for a period of time. I am defo living proof of that.
I am excited to finally see the scale moving after 6 months.

One thing is for sure:: And all of you can take this as an encouraging word from your SUPER COACH today.
Education, persistence, & determination will get you beyond any motivation on this journey we are traveling. If you get stuck in a rut or get in funk for several weeks--or months in my case--, you don't have to become bitter and believe "you may be at the weight you're body is supposed to be", especially if you still see imperfections all over yourself, as I do. Don't be afraid to try a new avenue. Never stop trying to educate yourself on something new. It has been pivotal in my success this time around with these stubborn 20+ lbs.

Krystal, I am so happy you have found something that works for you. Just so you know, there is another book coming out soon that I think is called Spike Life. I love spiking too and am back at it this week. Planning to spike on Superbowl Sunday after some much needed lower calorie days this week.

Too vain :D?

Second day of TOM and down 1 pound to 151. TOM usually takes 2-3 pounds upon exit, do I dare to hope to see 150? :eek: :eek: :eek:

OP day yesterday :) -- I was in bed by 8:30 pm and slept till 5:30 am...those walks still drain me quite a bit. No more sore muscles tho, I think I am finally over the worst part and my body is used to being tortured.

I am sticking with 1500-1600 calories, it seems to be working.

Boy, this site is giving me fits lately. Very frustrating. I am all over the web and this is the only site that gives me problems. :devil:

Recap of my day.
Went out for my walk with my gf and just when I was almost home, my Mom passed me heading out for her walk and needed to talk, so I went on a second walk with her (she is speedy compared to my friend). So I had 2 hours in walking and was really tired, but I told myself I would get my intervals in today, so I got on the treadmill and did 25 minutes of intervals. I am trying hard to stick to my exercise goals I set for myself this week and am proud that I didn't find an excuse to not do it. It was a good burn day today for sure!!!

Trying to stick to lower calorie day today, but I will see how it goes by dinner time. I figure I have some extra calories to work with due to the extra workout, so I won't sweat it too much, but I want to splurge/spike on sunday so I am trying to stick to my guns.

I'm going to chime in here too, I say go for it! You only live once and have this one body. I have considered it too, first looking into a breast reduction and then while exploring that, thought well, if I was going under, I may as well take care of this tummy, but I decided taking the weight off was first and most important. Now that I am getting closer, I feel as if I may be content, but if I weren't, I wouldn't have any hesitation, except of course $$$ like Krystal said.

Don't pay the ransom, I escaped!!:rofl: I make a joke but it is really not funny. I have been a slave to my mental and physical obsession with food since 1/13/2012.

I have been Pigging out with a capital "P" and I was ashamed to post my situation on 3FC. Insanity that's what it is. :crazy: I did not seek the help that I so desperately needed. Help from you all, my friends who understand this thinking and would have helped me. :club: I won't know until my morning weigh in how much ground I have lost. The good news is this only lasted 18 days. My history with yo yo dieting shows that this could have been a whole lot worse. In the past I did not get off the merry go round until I gained all that I lost and then some more.

Keeping my fingers crossed :crossed: that I can get back on track with your support.

I am scheduled for more surgery :( but after the Cardiac Bypass and the Kidney removal last year this is small potatoes. My cataracts have progressed to the point that I am having a lot of difficulty seeing. I was at the eye surgeon yesterday and he says it is time. Surgery for the left eye is scheduled for 2/22/2012 and my right eye will be done about one week later.

My left foot is very painful and I went to the podiatrist today. Seems that I have a Neuroma or pinched nerve. Received a cortizone shot plus numbing along with an orthodic insert for my shoes. I see him for a follow up in ten days and he says if this does not work the chemical destruction of the nerve will be tried. If that does not work surgery is the last option.

Larry, glad to see you posting again! I too have struggled a lot at the end of December and much of January. I somehow have found my spark again and with the help of this site and my wonderful friends on here, I am doing well this week.
I am trying to not beat myself up about it, it is a long distance journey and just because I had to walk a little, or even stumbled, doesn't mean I have to turn around and go back to the starting line or further. I chose to dig down deep and start running again towards that finish line. You can do it too, you just made a wrong turn in the race route, but I think you are on the right path again. Can't you see all of your 3fc buddies cheering for you on the sidelines? You can do this! You are stronger than those urges! Keep thinking about how amazing it will feel closer to goal than further.

Sorry about the cataracts and neuromas, but like you said, a pc. of cake compared to what you have been through!!! I have neuromas in both my feet also, they used to really bother me and I tried orthotic inserts, but they made me feel like I was walking on a bump right where the neuroma bothered me, so I just try to make sure I wear sensible shoes (wide enough) and they don't seem to bug me now, just every once in a while when I wear a pair of dress shoes or something. I am sure someday I will have to take care of it like you, when the pain gets bad. I didn't know there was a chemical solution, I thought the next option was surgery. I'll be curious to see what works for you!

Okay girls and Larry, this chickie is wiped out today! I honestly could not believe it was my alarm going off this morning. I guess all the working out from this week has caught up with me. I really want to stick to my goals this week thought so I refuse to take a day off until Sunday.
My plan is to get in my 60 min walk and then do my weight lifting. Today is my 1600 calorie day. Yesterday I was shooting for 1200 but didn't do the final tallies yet, I know I was close though.
Okay, I will check back in after I have some burns to report and have some more coffee in me :coffee:

A rest day. I actually don't feel like I would need one. -- I think I will FINALLY do some weight training and abs. ~ I keep procrastinating on those :o

I was really thirsty last night; I think I had nearly 45 oz before bedtime...needless to say, scale was up, 153 :mad: Darn 153!

I am having a lunch date with two of my dearest girlfriends. -- My 2nd lunch date since I got serious, again, on December 4th. I will stick to a salad. I purposely picked a restaurant that I am not too crazy about, and they have all American menu, which is pretty much forbidden for me due to gluten allergy. :D -- I am looking forward to seeing my friends, I miss them. I wish I could meet them in a no-food settings more often, like walking... Unfortunately one of them is a mom of 4 and super volunteer, so getting an hour out of her time is golden. My 2nd gf would have more time, but she does not have any interest in exercise, she LOVES eating out. ~ But I am learning to control myself. I am loving my slimmer silhouette too much :D

My scale read 225 this morning. This is a 10 pound gain since I went off plan for 18 days. I sure thought it was going to be worse than that!!

My DW and I have as of today adopted a new daily calorie goal of 1400. DW's daily goal used to be 1600 and mine was 1500. 1400 is very doable. With careful planning of our daily meals we should be OK getting our needed nutrients. I think I have told you all in the past that I do 100% of the cooking, food shopping and meal planning in our house.

Welcome back, Larry! And, please, don't ever disappear on us again. This website is for the good and the bad, so tell us about your good and bad and we'll listen and offer suggestions. Good for you for getting back on the lifestyle change bandwagon. I, too, was having difficulty getting back into the swing of things after my delicious holidays adventures. I didn't gain any weight (I wasn't overeating terribly), but I did get stuck in a 188-191 stall. That stall has, thankfully, past and I am back to losing weight. I'm sure you will be back to losing weight in no time. I'm not going to say that most of your 10-lb gain is water weight (because one can gain 10 lbs in almost 3 weeks), but I think at least 3 pounds is, so, hopefully, that will melt away quickly. :hug: to you.

Jo, is it possible you can do a watered-down version of your workout today? Maybe walk at a more leisurely pace? You don't have to take a rest day, but maybe lessen the intensity of today's workout. Either way, have a good workout.

Sum, I hope your lunch dates go well. I wish I had girlfriends to lunch with, but, alas, I do not. Maybe in another life. But, at least, this saves me money (and calories :D)! I have a lot of progress pictures, but, unfortunately, none at my heaviest. I think the earliest picture I have, I was probably 280-290. I may post two pictures of me in the same (college graduation) dress (1 at 280ish and 1 at 185) in the mini-goals section so I can see what a difference 100 pounds (or so) make.

K9, I hope everything is going well with you today. I'm down another pound, so this week's going to be HUGE for me, HUGE I say! :cheer:

I don't know that I'll lose this week. I may actually have a gain :cry: The week isn't over, but I can already tell!

My legs ache & I'm so friggin hungry, I could seriously eat my right arm atm!!

Today is my 1200 cal day and I may very well go over in cals. I also have ZERO motivation to run or do BR or my Plateau Challenge exercises.

Days like this really SUCK for me! I should be the example, or at least that's how I feel. :stress:

K9 don't know if you will see this or will be off to work, but hang in there. You are either ovulating or you are getting ready to drop some major poundage, or both :D. Just try to do what you can, eat an extra 1-200 cals today if you need them, but just hang on a day or so and it will pass. I know, easy for me to say, but it will be so worth it!!!

Princess, thanks, I did get my workout in and today wasn't scheduled to be overly intense anyways, so I stuck with my plan. I am happy with that. And :yay: for expecting a huge week!!! I am excited to hear about it!!!

Larry, hey 10 pounds isn't so bad, good for you! And knowing how you gain water weight, I bet it isn't all true weight either.

Sum, how did you do with your lunch? At least you know the scale jump is from the water last night. I hope you find yourself peeing the day away :D.
