Good Morning, Flowers! It's snowing, a breeze is blowing, and it's still a winter temperature of 19 in my corner of the world. I'm dressed, read the papers, and had my coffee, toast, and oj to start my OP day. I have lots I could and should do today. Bob just left for the office and then will make his Saturday morning coffee rounds.
I need to get busy and clean off the kitchen counter before I do anything else. Hope you all enjoy your day and do something fun just for yourself!
01-14-2012, 01:45 PM
Good late morning ladies. Boy this medical stuff is seriously screwing up my routine. I seem to forget to get in here and post. I can hear a police car over on the busy street and he is making the siren do stupid things on and off, on and off and such. Since it is only one and it just stopped, must be a traffic stop somewhere near here. Since we are between two fire stations, we usually have a lot of sirens going back and forth, but you can tell the police from the fire engines.
Jean: Brr, sounds cold at your house. It is pretty chilly here today again, but it is beautifully sunny outside today. Unfortunately, this weekend I have housecleaning I have to get done. Jack is upstairs at the moment fooling around in his office. He said he would be right back and that was half an hour ago so I bet if I went up there he is playing a game of some sort. He gets easily sidetracked! As to the ablation, no I had a biopsy and d and c last time. I have never had this prodecure. She gave me a nice pamphlet that I gave to Jack to read all about it so he would know what will be happening so he can worry a little less. I am more concerned about finding something on the ct scan than the procedure. I have always been puzzled by the pain and such when I am not having any bleeding. Worries me something is going on with the ovaries or something, but we will know after Tuesdays test. Jack is taking the day off and going with me. I have had a ct scan before so nothing to worry about as far as having it, but I think he thinks he is relieving my stress or something so I am not going to disuade him from it for sure.
Maggie: I am not sure what brand I am going to get to wear in tennies. I have big feet and all brands don't come in big foot ladie's sizes! My sister has itty bitty size 6's and I have always wondered what it would be like to always be able to find shoes to wear, but they are so much better about bigger sizes than they used to be. I had such a hard time finding shoes to fit me when I was in high school. I had a pair of loafers I had for years just because I couldn't find other ones to fit me. I can always opt for a pair of men's shoes if they aren't too manly looking as so many of the running shoes nowadays are kind of gender neutral.
I have one row of blanket blocks done and sewn together and am working on the next row now. I really have to get with the program, but this is a kind of complicated pattern and I keep screwing it up and having to rip out and do it over, especially one darn row everytime I come back to it I goof it up. It is k3, * yo, k1 k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, skp, k1, repeat from * ending with k3. Both ends of the knit 3 are the border and then the rest is the row for the heart and for some reason I get to the end where the k1 is and I have too many or too few st. I put stitch markers after the first 3 and before the last three so I make sure I knit those for the boarder on the wrong side and not purl them, which would usually occur, but for some reason I get hung up on that row. It increases the stitches from 43 to 49 as I have to knit four stitches together in row three. Anyway, now that I have confused and bored you to tears.....
I contacted Coca Cola world in Atlanta about whether or not they have seating throughout the exhibits before I buy tickets to walk through the place as it is huge. Between Jack and his knees and me and my knee and the abdomen cramping, I want to be sure there are places we can sit a spell between different areas before I buy tickets. I would really like to visit this place, but don't want to waste money. We have to pay $10 just to park.
Well gals, I am going to go back to knitting for awhile. You all have a great Saturday!!! Faye

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is a bright sun-shiney 35 degree day as I type. The temps for the day are said to be between 28 and 52 so before the day is over we will see warmer temps. I just saw a blurb on some new computer technology ~ and no I am not in the market for this for I believe I have no use for it and it would probably cause me migraines. Anyway it is a pair of glasses where you can receive e-mail in the lens and still see through the lens. Creepy. Computer glasses. Glasses that are a computer. Will just came in from the store and brought me some of the new WW cheddar cheese logs that are 2 p+ each. Now those will be great to eat with an apple and boiled egg for a nice breakfast. I have some of the string cheese for 1P+ that I love to eat with my Cuties and now there is a smoked version that I will get later.:p He also brought me a new bag of Cuties. Will has something going on with his foot that makes it painful to walk. He has an upcoming docs appointment to find the cause of this problem. He has such high arches that he may need sturdy supports in his shoes is my guess but I am not a foot doctor.:D He may have to go back to wearing cowboy boots which have great support. He used to wear them all the time. He has such wide feet he has them special made and they are spendy. Real spendy. He had a pair of Whites lace ups special made for him that were wonderful. We don't know what happened to them ~ they just disappeared once. They are the "never wear out" kind. One would think it hard for someone else to wear his boots for they were special made for him. Will is a 6'2" tall man with big hands and feet. Gotta have those big feet to hold him up.:D A long tall Texan from Iowa ~ go figure.
JEAN Burr you are chilly there. Ease into the house cleaning and it won't seem much of a chore. Put on some music and dance along while dusting and chasing those dust bunnies.
DONNA FAYE Hopefully a big place like that will have rest stations through out all folks who visit there are not the young and spry. They do make mens tennies that can be uni-sex. I buy mens SAS shoes because they come in wider sizes than the ladies but the shoe looks the same otherwise. I need the extra width to accommodate my brace. I put extra liners in the shoe that doesn't have the brace to make if fit better. I love SAS shoes and Will hates them for he also has a pair. I have flat feet and he has such high arches and they hurt his feet. He could put arch supports in them. I have to have a shoe that doesn't have a built in arch support. I have a catalog that has other shoes that accommodate a brace and have gotten some sandals from them.
A variety of studies have shown that peanuts and other nuts, which are rich in monounsaturated fats, help contribute to weight loss and heart health. What's more, they're rich in magnesium, folate, fiber, copper, vitamin E and arginine ~ all of which play an important role in the prevention of heart disease. So smear peanut butter on a sliced apple, sprinkle chopped almonds on a salad or in yogurt, or reach for a handful of nuts instead of a bag of chips.
Take a moment to enjoy a slice of melon or a fruit shake. Packed with antioxidants, fruit is naturally sweet and keeps unhealthy cravings at bay.
Hope all of you are having a lovely day and a nice weekend.
01-14-2012, 05:04 PM
"Gma" -- It has warmed up to 33 degrees, the sun is shining, and the snow is melting! :cp: I'm glad Jack is going with you to your CT appt. It's always nice to have some extra TLC along. ;) I bet the Coca Cola exhibit will be an interesting place to visit. I would think they would have lots of available seating. I was wondering if the doctor thinks you might have endometriosis. Although that wasn't the reason for my surgery, they found it during the surgery. It can cause pain but I more more pressure than pain.
Maggie -- You are right! The computer glasses sound creepy! I eat the Kraft cheese sticks for 1 pt. I think they have more flavor than the WW, and are cheaper in our area. I hope Will doesn't have gout or bone spurs in his feet. Bob used to wear cowboy boots and blames them on how ugly his toes are shaped now! His whole family has ugly feet! I have almonds divided into individual servings; I thought they were supposed to be the best nut to eat. :dunno: I am anxious for melon season again! The ones in the stores, right now, have no color nor taste to them.
Susan -- What are you up to today? :twirly:
I hear the dryer buzzing so I'm off!
01-15-2012, 11:45 AM
Good morning to all of you! Rough night last night so slept in again. I am not much better this morning so don't know how much I am going to get done today. Ahh well. Jack just went to the store to get me some more Pepsi One and I am working on those blanket squares. I am behind on my time line and need to catch up! :D I want to ship out everything by the end of the month.
Found out there aren't places to sit and the thing is mostly a tour. You have to stand for 45 minutes and that just isn't going to happen with either Jack or I so we won't be going there. You would think they would think about people who are mobile but need more opportunities to sit, but the Chattanooga zoo was the same way. You might go through two or three long exhibits before there would be anywhere to sit. The lady that told me all this says it is mostly one big advertisement for Coke. I know what the one in Vegas has, which is much less involved and is more about the big gift shop, but it would be interesting anyway.
Jean: It warmed up some here, but I hear the furnace on right now so it is chilly outdoors. No, I don't have endometriosis as the other gyn checked that when she did the d and c so this doctor is puzzled. I received all my paperwork and even a surgical appt of Feb 6 so she got right on it even though she said she wasn't going to schedule it until after the ct scan results were back. The one thing is I already had my blood tests and she scheduled me for more so I am going to call her tomorrow and see why that is because they are going to be so close together I wonder if my insurance would pay for the exact same tests twice. I have to also see my regular dr on the 25th to get a surgical release. I think that is a big fat waste of money since I was just in there in Oct and why couldn't she just contact my dr and get a release? They work in the same darn place and it isn't big, it is a clinic. I also have to go to the hospital and do a pre-registration and such, which is a pain, but then I don't have to do it the day of the procedure. I have always heard almonds are the best nut to eat too and I buy a couple different brands of lower fat cheese sticks or cubes. This last time I bought Sargento and they were really good. I buy a borden's brand too if they have them. I like to have them with a sliced apple and some low fat club crackers for a nice snack. I have huge flat feet and have always had flat feet. You could fly a Navy plane off my "flattops!"
Maggie: I had to giggle thinking about what you said about Will. Jay is 6'4" and has big feet. When we visit I will see him stretching them out long as he has long legs and this big ole shoes at the end of his legs. I imagine it costs him a pretty penny for shoes. You should see him next to my oldest sister. She is 5' tall. Looks like those old comics, Mutt and Jeff.
Well gals, Jack should be back soon and I see it is almost 10 am already. I need to do some prep work for dinner tonight. I am making myself stuff bell peppers and Jack some stuffed shells. He doesn't know what he's missing, but then he doesn't like bell pepper. Have a great day today. Faye
01-15-2012, 12:43 PM
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining, the never ending wind is blowing, and it's warming up as the the morning goes along. I've been to church; Bob is singing so won't see him until after noon sometime. I'm not sure what I'm going to do this afternoon -- I should make a list, cut it apart, and then draw from the pile. Then I could be surprised!
"Gma" -- It's good that you can sleep in if you don't sleep well during the night. I woke up about 4 and couldn't get back to sleep. :hyper: I just watched the clock numbers change between switching positions. Bob leaves for church a little after 7 so I try to be in and out of the bathroom before he gets up. I think you have to have a mini physical so many hours before surgery, to be sure everything is working properly. I remember doing the same thing thinking what a waste of money. Stuffed peppers . . . :T !
I need to change clothes and finish reading the paper. Also think about something quick and easy for lunch. Enjoy your day today!

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
It is a beautiful sunny 60 degree day here in the Heartland. We had pot-luck after morning services and I ate sensibly and spent only 9 P+. Slipped dessert and was happy with myself.:D We will be going out to eat at Applebees where I can get a WW entree off their menu and stay within my allotted points for the day. Here it is already the middle of this first month of a new year and I am so happy to say I have been OP so far. :cp: There were sure some yummy desserts there today but I abstained and happily drank my coffee. Tomorrow I will bump up some of my exercises ~ slow and easy as I go so as not to hurt myself. I have hurt myself before it isn't pleasant for I had to stop for awhile and that is not good. Mentally or for my bodies betterment.
JEAN I like your list idea about cutting it up. I usually make my list in the order of what needs to be done first ~ for other things on the list sometime depend on something higher on the list to have been done first.
DONNA FAYE I am sure you will be relieved when they get you all fixed up back to exact. I find that weird they don't have any rest stations along the way in those places that are huge to visit. There are so many of us who need to take a break for not everyone is equipped to bash on regardless. I guess a few folks just have to fall out on the floor when they can't go another step before the powers that be put up rest stations. Rent wheel chairs and that way you would have a place to sit and rest for sure. When I was a teen there were four gals and four guys going to a theme park that didn't have rest stations so we rented 4 wheel chairs and the gals would push the guys around some then they would hop up and push us around some. It was fun and we sure got a lot of attention. :D But we always had a place to sit down that way.
SUSAN & GAIL Now the two of you have been absent for long enough. Time for you to get back and join in the fray.
STOP DRINKING YOUR CALORIES
Fruit juices, coffee drinks and regular soda are liquid calories that don't really satisfy your thirst. An eight-ounce regular cola contains 103 calories; the same amount of orange juice has 110. If weight loss is your goal, opt for low-or no-calorie beverages like tea, water, seltzer and skim milk.
LIGHTEN YOUR MORNING COFFEE
It's a no-brainer. Lose a pound in a month by lightening up your coffee. Use skim milk and artificial sweetener instead of cream and sugar. In just one month, you'll reduce your calorie intake by 3,600 - That's one pound!
I love my sugar free - fat free vanilla latte :coffee:
 Type at y'all later.
01-15-2012, 10:27 PM
Maggie -- :congrat: on no desserts at the pot luck today! That is :woohoo: willpower! I had to :D at your story about renting the wheel chairs at the theme park. I drink oj every morning and figure it doesn't stay in long enough to do any damage. I do count it as 1 pt. Alas, I already drink my coffee black so no help available there. Both are good hints though. I think both would be great attention getters for the younger generation. I'm going to do some reading and catch the 10:00 news before going to bed. See you all tomorrow!
01-16-2012, 02:29 PM
Good afternoon ladies!!! I know I am seriously gettng sloppy about getting in here in the mornings, but I am just not running on all cylinders lately. I fell asleep sitting in the chair this morning as did Jack so we will probably be up late tonight. Tomorrow is cat scan day so can get that out of the way then Friday I will go in and do my pre admission stuff at the hospital and get it out of the way as I have to take Fortune to the vets to get his proheart shot. Love only having to have a shot once every 6 months and not buy the chews and try and remember them every month.
Maggie: You can go to Disney World and actually rent scooters there, which is nice for older folks and that is a huge amount of walking for people who are not young no matter how healthy they are. We made a change of plans and decided to go to Chattanooga instead. It is closer, the mall is much, much bigger and we are going to that murder mystery theater again and go to a different comedy about a murder at an office party. It isn't that expensive, around $25, includes salad, buffet, dessert and drinks and rolls and the murder mystery. Coca Cola World cost $16 apiece plus $10 for parking. Parking is free at the theater. We found a nice suite hotel at a great weekend price that includes a full hot breakfast, a two room suite with two flat panel tv's, sofa, chair, desk/table for eating, full kitchen, even free laundry area and a beautiful indoor pool. It is 3 blocks from the mall just across the interstate overpass and there are tons of restaurants around there too. I always go to trip advisor to check hotels and stuff out before we book and this one got 4-5 stars out of 5 and that was for over two years of reviews. Also, if something happens that Kelly has to back out of taking Fortune, we can take him though it costs a non refundable fee. Congrats on leaving the desserts alone.
Jean: What the preadmission is for these day procedures are blood tests and they check you all in, get insurance info and everything set up, pay co-pay if you have to, stuff like that so on the day of the procedure, you go straight to the floor to check in and they already have your stuff ready so you aren't filling out a bunch of stuff and wasting time. It is walk in though and you can sit for a long time. I plan on being there at 7 AM when they open so I can get it over with.
I am working diligently on the blanket to get it done and trying to read a couple books inbetween. This thing has a lot of patterned rows and it can make my hands hurt after awhile so I do a section of hearts then put it down for half an hour or so then do another section.
Well gals, looks like I need to get some lunch in me and see what I can get done today. Need to do laundry, clean, and get the dishwasher unloaded as I am waaaayyyyyyy behind. Have a good start to your week all. Faye

GOOD DAY MAGNOLIAS
Good morning Magnolias. I am a happy camper this weigh day :cloud9: for I show a loss of 2 pounds which brings me to a total of 77# total loss. It sure feels good to be back on track and losing once again. I certainly want to hang on to this feeling. I love those little Cuties and they have become my most favorite “snack food.” I made a wonderful loaf of whole wheat bread with seeds on the top crust and it is so yummy for sandwiches. It is a sturdy bread and holds up well for that use. :hungry: When I make a loaf I like to add fiber to the mix.
It is currently 35º with the high expected to only get to 42º with the low of 15º which makes for a cool clear day here in the ♥-Land. I will do my exercises inside until the nice spring weather gets here. Last year we jumped from winter into summer though. I may just keep exercising inside if it gets too hot outside like it did last year. I’m so fat that every pedometer I have tried doesn’t work right so I will just have to guess about my walking and count the laps instead of distance. :joker: Just do what it takes, I guess.
For Thursday evening meal, I :chef: am going to make a pot of Cowboy beans, a Cottage cheese Jell-O salad that will go well with the bean mixture and mix up a box of Krusteaz fat free honey cornbread. I love using the Krustaez products. Their fat free muffins are low point and yummy. Our guests will not know I have lightened the fare and I can stay on program easily for that meal. :cp: We love having company for a meal and the ones coming Thursday like this kind of a meal. So there you have it.
DONNA FAYE Well back in the time I was talking about was pre-scooter days. :chin: Remember I am old ~ and that was back in the days when I met Walt Disney when he was still building the park out in CA. :sssh: Things have certainly changed since back in the “good ole days.” Every day gets closer to when you will be back to exact. I know you will be a happy camper once those cramps are stopped.
CONQUER YOUR CRAVINGS
Food craves can lead to willpower caves. What can you do to tame that craving for something you shouldn’t have too much of, or not a all? Try these tips.
DON’T GIVE IN TO YOUR INNER FOOD BULLY
Look at cravings as suggestions to eat, not commands to overindulge. Overeating does not have to be an automatic response to a craving. when a craving begins, determine how you want to deal with it. It is truly up to you.
Time has come for me to get off this :comp: I hope all you Magnolias are having a wonderful start to a new work week. Type at y’all later.
01-16-2012, 04:31 PM
Good Afternoon, Flowers! We are having the usual weather: windy, cloudy, and cold. Sunshine and warmer would be most welcome! The money balanced the first time at both the church and the hospital so I'm done with that for another week. I have laundry going and need to decide what I'm wearing to card club tonight. The hostess has a wide open house and it always seems cold to me, so I will dress in layers of some sort.
Bob has had a sore knee for a few days (a week+) and finally went to the doctor this morning. This afternoon he was to have an x-ray (to make sure it's nothing serious) and start pt along with a muscle relaxer. When he first mentioned it being sore I kept my opinion to myself ;) and he finally decided to have it checked on his own. Men!
"Gma" -- Your trip to Chattanooga sounds like a fun one and a better choice in the end. I know you enjoyed your last dinner theater. It's good you could take Fortune along if you have to. I'm anxious to see the baby blanket when you finish it.
Maggie -- :congrat: on losing another 2#s! You are doing just GREAT! It's ironic your tip should be about cravings. For whatever reason, I could have eaten everything and anything that was loose in the house yesterday. I wasn't hungry, I just didn't know what I wanted to chew on. That doesn't happen very often and I hate it when it does.
I need to unload the dishwasher and check on the dryer. Enjoy the rest of your day!
01-16-2012, 07:15 PM
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
I didn't get a whole lot accomplished today but what I had planned and that was to re-arrange the frozens in my freezer. Will had bought me quite a lot of the WW frozen dinners and placed them hither and there and now I have them all in one area. :D He wants breakfast for dinner so that is what we will have. I have some Krustaez pancake mix that only takes water and they are very low in points and sugar free syrup or sugar free jam as a topping. I will spray a small skillet and "fry" some eggs that way and cook some of Schwans sausage where I can count the points easily and have a good dinner. Also, of course, I will have a couple Cuties. It will all fit nicely in the 22 points I have left to spend this day. After this last weigh in I lost a point so don't get to eat as much. ;) That is a price we have to pay when we shrink.
JEAN Thanks for the kind words. I am still so determined to make this year work for me. :p It is a good feeling to get the books balanced isn't it. I sure hope that there is nothing major wrong with Bob's knee. It can be such a pain when knees don't work correctly.
Time for me to go start dinner. Have a great evening Magnolias.
01-17-2012, 12:40 PM
Good morning, ladies! 60 degrees already this fine day!
I've been busy working every day and I spent the weekend with Sandy. We watched the playoffs and went shopping. She found a lot of great stuff at the sales but all the 12 and mediums were gone or too young for me. I have an appointment for my foot after work today so not working at JH tonight...a short day!
Maggie, congrats on the weight loss. You have the scale moving in the right direction. I had to chuckle at you having 22 points for dinner. I only have 26 for the whole day. I usually use 5 for breakfast.
Jean, don't get too good at doing the money or another group will be giving you the job! Men are something when it comes to going to the doctor.
Faye, you might have to see the doc again because when I had my surgery I had to have a physical done withing 30 days of the surgery. I hope this fixes you permanently. You sure have been through the maze trying to find the solution. That sounds like a lovely trip. Sandy and I were talking about going on a cruise this year but now that cruise ship sank I don't think so.
I'll try to get in more often. Have a great day!
01-17-2012, 12:44 PM
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining (?) through the hazy cloud cover and the wind is still blowing. It "feels" like -12 outside . . . COLD! We did get some snow during the night and the wind is blowing it around into small drifts. I've been to the hospital to deliver checks I wrote yesterday, for bills, and to write more checks for bills that came in yesterday after I left. It would be so much simpler if I could just sign the checks and mail them. :dizzy:
Maggie -- Bob said this morning that his knee felt 100% better after taking the meds twice yesterday! I asked him if maybe that was "mental," and all I got was THE look for an answer. The doctor's nurse called late yesterday afternoon to talk to him, but he was in a meeting at church. Of course she wouldn't tell me anything.
Susan -- I was glad to see you this morning! It sounds like you had a nice weekend even if you didn't find any bargains while shopping. I'm not so sure about a cruise now either. I wonder if there is more to the captain than we know yet. I hope your doctor appt. is a good one!
I need to get busy and do some more laundry. I think it multiplies when I'm not looking. The dust bunnies had babies last night too. :hyper: Enjoy the rest of your day!
01-17-2012, 01:05 PM
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
:comp: Good morning Magnolias. It is currently 14º degrees here in the ♥-Land and not expected to get any higher than 31º. We had a smattering of snow last evening but it didn’t last and is gone now. I am sitting here in my warm office drinking my morning :coffee: and waking up to the world.
I have the burger and Italian sausage all fixed up in little balls in the freezer for the Cowboy Beans. :cp: That part is done for I like to get a head start on that dish before cooking date since it is a crock pot entrée. I’ll cook those and the bacon with the onions on Wednesday evening and stick them all in the fridge. I will wait until Thursday to make the cornbread and jell-o salad. So you see I have it all compartmentalized in my mind. :chef: I have the cans of butter beans, cannellini beans and pork and beans that go into the pot :stir: and all the other ingredients so I am ready. These beans are really good but they are also spendy in points but I can only eat a cup of them for 6 points +. :hun: It is a recipe that my mother always made during the holidays as a side dish and I asked her for the recipe and she smiled and said, “You have it in your crock pot booklet.” Yes, I did, but have found it isn’t in some of the later booklets that I have gotten through the years. It is definitely a “man pleaser” recipe. We could just about count on having those beans at any big gathering at my moms house. Turkey day or not. Will likes having them for the main dish and not just as a side dish for he likes his beans. If anyone wants that recipe I can type it out for you. It is one that when I make it to take to a pot-luck I bring home an empty pot.
I am going to pick out a pattern for a glass house to start on since my order of light fixtures should be here any day now. I can get the pattern cut out and the glass picked out and cut in the meantime while I wait. I think I might start on the Police Station and Jail. I have some dark glass that will work for that nicely. I am itchin’ to build.
SUSAN Good to know you are safe and well. I sure don’t blame you for not wanting to go on a cruise. I have heard that lots of folks have cancelled their reservations since that accident. Yep ~ I get a total of 30 p+ for the day then the 49 to use as “needed.” But that will all change as I lose for sure. I haven’t used all of the 49 each week yet this year so far but it is nice to know they are there ~ kinda like a safety net. Hope you receive good news at the doc about your foot.
JEAN That is good those meds helped Bob's hurt. Wonder what the x-ray showed that they wouldn't tell you about. Will's foot it much better but he is still determined to go to the doc and find out what it is that is wrong with it. I still think he needs arch supports. That would sure simplify your job if they would let you sign the checks. But maybe they are afraid if they let you sign them you will abuse the privilege. Not "you" in particular but someone.
All you wonderful Magnolias have a lovely day. Type at y’all later.
01-17-2012, 03:43 PM
Afternoon to you gals! Ct scan is over now but that was something. For one thing, I get really dizzy laying flat on my back so when I got up, boy was I lightheaded. I am really glad Jack went with me because I may still be sitting in the waiting room waiting for my head to clear! I have a huge bruised area on my hand where they put in the IV. I have deep tiny veins and it is always an issue getting one in me. On top of that, you can't have anything to drink for hours before so from what I understand lack of water in the system can cause problems too. I have arthritis in my right shoulder, more than likely from knitting and it was very uncomfortable lying with my arms above my head because the right shoulder ached like mad the whole time and you have to lie so still. All in all, they took me in on time and I didn't have to sit a long time so it is done and moving on to the next thing, which is the dr appt. Since I just had a physical in September and the gyn did a pap smear while I was at the appt on the 12th, I imagine this will go pretty quickly then on to the procedure the 6th. I am so glad the gyn dr went forward quickly with this.
It is rainy and warm here today around upper 60's for the most part. If it were sunny it would be gorgeous. I even wore capri pants to the drs.
Maggie: Are cannellini similary to navy beans? I have seen them and they kind of look like it, but they must be an italian bean with the name. I am surprised cowboy beans don't have pinto beans in them. You know, I can't find any Krusteaz mixes except for the blueberry muffins. Disappointing as I would like to try the cornbread. I just use Jiffy mix with egg beaters and ff milk in them and it cuts down on pts. Using the egg beaters and skim milk doesn't seem to make any difference in the taste or the rising ability of the cornbread.
Jean: If Bob has Flexeril for a muscle relaxant tell him to be careful because they can make you really, really sleepy. Jack can only take them when he has absolutely nothing to do as they knock him out pretty much. Last time he took one he slept all day and all night! Jack pretty much has a permanent limp from the left knee as it didn't do as well as the right one did, but then the damage was worse too. He says it is pretty much as good as it is going to get even though he is in pain all the time and it stiffens up a lot. A knee replacement for him is the only answer and that will happen some time down the road I am sure.
Susan: Too bad you didn't find any shopping deals. I am hoping to get a little cruis shopping done while in Chattanooga. Mainly tshirt type things as I have a lot of capris I will be able to wear. I am going to get a new swimsuit, but closer to the time we leave so it fits properly and looking at getting some walking shoes since there is a lot of walking on the ship as well as on the excursions. St Thomas is all hills too so I have to start getting on the treadmill and building up my strength in my legs and such. I have to ignore the cruise ship stories or I definitely wouldn't go. In this case, looks the like captain was at fault and the jerk actually left the ship ahead of passengers. I read the transcript of the Italian coast guard telling him to get out of the lifeboat and get back on the ship even cursing at him when he kept making excuses for not getting back on the ship and giving them the information they needed. Sad people had to lose their lives over something like this when it wasn't really a freak accident.
Well gals, I need to go. I hope you all have a great day today! Faye

We just got home from having supper with our travel friends. It's a very cold, "crisp" night out with lots of stars shining brightly.
Maggie -- What kind of a Jell-o salad are you going to make? I thought I had the Cowboy Bean recipe but I either didn't print it off or didn't write it on a recipe card because I can't find it. Would you send it again please? Bob's x-ray showed there was no damage and the nurse said to wait on the pt if the meds will make it feel so much better. The reason I can't sign the gift shop checks has something to do with the shop not charging tax on our sales. We have to use the hospital tax id #, so the higher ups both have to sign all the checks.
"Gma" -- I'm glad your CT scan is over for you. I think I would have a hard time laying still. I don't do IVs well either. Bob isn't taking Flexeril, but I'm too lazy to go down and find out what he is taking. He takes them with food and 12 hours apart.
I'm thinking about heading to bed and read for awhile. See you all tomorrow!

Good morning to you all! It went from lovely and warm to freezing cold this morning. The temp dropped about 20 degrees yesterday afternoon then got below freezing last night. Hopefully it won't last long. I want spring!!!
I am bound and determined to get my house clean today so pain or no pain, shaking or no shaking I am going to do one job at a time and if I have to, sit between each thing I do for awhile. I am tired of my dirty house and you know I can't stand clutter either. Fortune has made a mess with his dogfood in the kitchen so I have that to clean up as well.
I hope it doesn't take long for the scan results to get back. I am a bit anxious about them and hoping they find nothing. Since I have to take Fortune into the vets on Friday for his heart worm shot, I will go to the hospital early that morning as soon as I take Jack to work and do my pre-admin work and get it over with. I figure the hospital parking lot won't be full at 7 AM, which is when pre-admin opens. Then next week I have the regular dr appt. Once I get this stuff all done, I won't have to go back for awhile. :)
I am reading the new John Grisham book, The Litigators. It is pretty good and I noticed on the library website there are 17 people waiting for me to finish it! I am in no hurry though as I have it for three weeks. I have it about 1/3 done, usually reading it when I have to put down the knitting for a bit. I have the 5th square almost complete so hopefully I can sew it on and start the next one than it will be half done. It isn't as big as I'd hope, more like a stroller blanket or receiving blanket, but it will work for naps and such and in a stroller.
Jean: Hopefully, Bob just strained his knee a bit. Glad he has no damage as it is hard for them to get back to normal when they are older, that's for sure. It isn't easy when you are older to lay still on those beds with your arms over your head. My right shoulder was screaming by the time I was finished. Because you can't be wearing any metal into the machine, I had to remove my bra so I was flopping around in the hallway....:o Of course, when I walked out, there is this guy standing there waiting for his scan. I am glad it is over and just hope they don't find anything.
I guess I have wasted enough time so it is time to hit the bricks. Have a good middle of the week gals. This week is going fast with Jack home Monday and Tuesday. Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining brightly but it's windy and cold outside again today. I've been to tan, the grocery store, and the post office. Postage goes up the 22nd -- I wonder what po is open on Sunday? :dunno: We are going to Sioux City this afternoon to do some last minute trip shopping, eat supper with Beth and family, and pick up cookies from Maddy.
"Gma" -- You know what cleaning you don't get done today will be there tomorrow. ;) Ernie will scatter his dry food if the bowl is too full. His are little round balls so he bats them around the floor for us to step on. I will find them all over the house. I hope the parking lot isn't too full, but that's when ours seems be full because people come in early for surgeries, scopes, etc. Do you have valet parking? We do, no charge, and that's nice. I hope you hear the scan results soon.
Guess I will see what leftovers there are for lunch and set the table. Bob should be home soon. Enjoy the rest of your day and stay warm!

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
Good morning Magnolias. It is currently 30º here in the ♥-Land and said to get to a high of 48º before the day is done which started out at 16º. Burrr is the best I can say. I don’t have much on my plate this day except glass work and doing my pre-work for dinner tomorrow evening. My first meal of this day consists of jerky and Cuties. Yummy. I have some good green grapes to eat later in the day for a “snack.” I also have some of that pemmican still in the freezer that makes a real “good for you” snack. I would much rather work fruit and veggies into my day as snacks instead of sweet things. I have some dried corn that I need to make Parched Corn AKA: Corn Nuts out of ~ sitting on a shelf below the kitchen window above my sink. Every time I am at the sink I see that ziplock bag of dried corn and tell myself I need to make those corn nuts. One day soon, maybe.
JEAN Have a safe trip and enjoy your visit with Beth and family. Cookies? Must be Girl Scout cookies. We didn't bring any of those into this house this year. Just that cookie dough that we dumped.:D The jello salad is the one with lime & lemon jello, crushed pineapple, cottage cheese and canned milk in it. So simple to make and yummy with dishes like beans.:p Or grilled chicken. Or just about any meal.;)
Here is that recipe you requested which is rather high in points+ but I feel worth it if you eat it with salad and other low point items for a meal:
”ONE POT” DINNER
Serves 16; 1 Cup serving is 7 P+
1 pound lean ground beef
¾ pound bacon, cut in small pieces
1 pound Italian Sausage
1 cup chopped onion
2 cans (1# 15 oz size) pork and beans
1 can (1#) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (1#) butter limas, drained and rinsed
1 cup ketchup
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
3 tablespoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Brown the ground beef in skillet; drain off fat and put beef in Crock Pot.
Brown the Italian sausage: and put in Crock Pot.
Brown bacon and onions and put in Crock Pot.
Add the remaining ingredients to the Crock Pot and stir well.
Cover and cook on low 4 to 6 hours.
(If using a 2-quart Crock Pot, reduce the recipe by half.)
DONNA FAYE To answer your question: cannelloni beans are white Kidney beans. :) Take it easy with your house work. If they don't find anything with your tests then how will they treat what is going on with you. Don't you just want them to find something that is treatable? That is my hope for you that they can figure out what it is going on with your system and make it back to exact my dear friend. I will look for that book for John Grisham is one of my favorites. Please do post a picture of that baby blanket ~ it sounds so cute. I love those little throws.
Try distracting yourself for 20 minutes (the usual length of a craving) by chatting on the phone or taking a walk around the block.
If distraction doesn't do the trick, you might have an emotional hunger. Identify the food you're yearning for: is it chewy/ crunchy or smooth/creamy? If it's chewy/crunchy, there's a good chance you're hungry, anxious, frustrated, stressed or resentful. Ask yourself, What do I want to chew on in life right now? If you yearn for smooth/creamy foods, ask this question: What am I missing in my life at this moment? Whatever the answer, follow up with the bigger question: will food get me what I need? Once your realize that eating won't solve your problem, you can focus on what's really eating you.
Have a wonderful day Magnolias. Type at y'all later.

 GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :chef:
I am so happy with myself and I will tell you why even if you don't want to hear it. :nono: If I could jump I would be jumping with joy. :cp: I had the burger and sausage all rolled in small balls and the bacon cut up for that Cowboy Bean recipe so it would be easier to cook today. What trips my trigger is that usually I "have to have" a nice sandwich out of some of the meat all mixed together when I make this dish. Well today I didn't even have one little morsel pass my lips. I cooked it all and it is now in the fridge waiting to be put in the crock-pot tomorrow. I know I could have had some of the meat and counted the points and fit it into my day but I didn't even want to get started on it. And a good thing it isn't even calling my name now. So you see why it is, that I am so very happy. And Will, bless his heart, he only ate one little piece of burger meat and a sausage ball. I mentally rehearsed that cooking today and the sipping of some broth and it worked. And tonight we will be having Colonel Clucks grilled :chicken: and I'll have some points left over.:p Life is good. :dancer:
PS: How are the rest of you Magnolias doing with your tracking what you bite? So far this year I have written down everything I have eaten. :hun: I hope to make this a real good habit. It is day 18 and I have 2 more days :yay: to make it a habit for "they" say it takes 20 days.
Type at y'all later.

Maggie -- Yup, we picked up Girl Scout cookies tonight . . . 7 boxes of 'em. :o Grandpa Bob got a little carried away when Maddy called and wanted to know what kind he wanted. Thanks for sharing your recipe again. I know I had it and now I'm thinking that my "saved" recipes got dumped when my computer died. I know I had the salad recipe but can't find it either. You just make the Jell-o with 2 c. of boiling water, add pineapple and cottage cheese, then stir in the milk, right? . . . what kind of milk? You did GOOD when you passed up the taste test today. I'm sure Will would have told you if it wasn't up to snuff. ;) I have been lax in writing food down this week and I know the scale will show that. I did well last week and had good intentions for this week. I need to do some picking up on the kitchen island before I head to bed. Btw . . . I go for "crunchy" rather than smooth every time! :p See you all tomorrow! :D

Good morning gals. I am about to go upstairs and do some cleaning after having paid the bills, but remembered I hadn't been in here to post. It is chilly again this morning and the furnace keeps coming on and off. Not looking forward to that utility bill. They are really high this year so I imagine they have upped the bills all the way around.
Jack keeps getting a rejection on his efile, something about the employer's ID number being wrong. He fixed it this morning and it came back again rejected and he hasn't been able to call me back to give me the log in info so I can fix it so he will have to do it when he gets home. They said it doesn't match what is in their database. Well maybe their database is wrong! He takes it right off the 1099's.
I am not happy this morning  I just got a call from that nitwit nurse of the gyn and she asked if I went for the test. I told her yes, then she said my appt being 1:40 on Wed and I said, "NO, it is 11 AM." She goofed it up and went back and looked and now it isn't in the database at all. She tried to give me an afternoon appt, which I can't go to because of going and getting Jack so my new appt is the Friday before surgery. Sheesh, how close can you cut it?
Maggie: Glad you were able to stay out of your bean business! I had apricots yesterday and they were pretty good. They were canned, but you can't get them fresh now anyway. I haven't had them in quite awhile and it was nice to have something different.
Jean: Jack loved Girl Scout cookies, but I told him no buying cookies this year. They are so expensive for one thing, but mainly if he buys them we will eat them and we don't need them. I am not a huge cookie gal unless they are soft chocolate chip type. We have a sandwich place that makes these huge homemade ones and boy it is hard to resist them. I am more of a pie kind of gal. If I had to choose, it would be pie and cheesecake over other desserts I think. The valet parking they have is on the far side of the hospital and you might as well park in the lot as the walk through the medical building and then through the hospital is as far as walking from the parking lot. If you get there early it isn't too bad. I guess I will have to keep the car whether I want to or not next week again and go since I can't go tomorrow because it is too far away from the surgery and since she moved my appt that is too close. They don't make it easy for you that's for sure and if people would do their jobs correctly maybe you wouldn't have all this nonsense to deal with. I told her that the dr already had me do my blood tests last Friday and she said that was too far out. Sheesh, the dr doesn't know how close to make the blood tests. I told her I was concerned about the insurance not paying and she was all flighty saying they would pay. Like she has a clue about it. grrrr!
Well gals, I need to get going. I want to get upstairs cleaning done this morning before it gets away from me I am waiting for laundry to finish now too. Have a good Thursday! Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! It has warmed up to -1! The sun is shining and the wind is blowing; we're in a "watch" but from the map it looks like we are on the southern edge so maybe won't get anything. :crossed: I've been doing lots of little puttery things this morning after Ernie and I took a nap in front of the tv. :o I don't know why I'm tired because I slept good last night.
Maggie -- Thanks for the recipe . . . again. I get :hyper:  when I know I've saved something and then can't find it. I freeze the cookies and dole them out after I've figured the points.
"Gma" -- Good luck getting the tax information straightened out. :dizzy: Our account does ours online and so far it's been working ok. We rarely have kids stopping by to sell things any more. I always figure people bought from our kids so we do try to buy from others. I do think it's a rip-off  when the girls do the work and only get a pittance in return. I haven't met a nurse, or doctor, who knows exactly what insurance is all about. I would be as frustrated as you are with the appointment mix-up. Are you going to report the incident to the office manager or even the doctor?
I need to put together a stove top type macaroni -hamburger lunch so better get moving! Enjoy your day and stay warm!

:wave:GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS :comp:
Good morning Magnolias. It is rather chilly today in the ♥-Land. It is 12º and “feels like” it is -1º and said not to get any higher than 28º this day. You can bet your sweet booties I am staying inside where I have plenty to keep me busy. I am sitting here in my office drinking my morning cup of :coffee: waking up to the world. I slept in and it sure felt good.
Cecil was just in Will’s office giving Will “what for.” Beanie wasn’t in there and he was upset about it. Will called “Beanie” and he meandered down the hallway looking sleepy. Must have been on the couch in the front room asleep. Now Cecil is all happy. The sleeping arrangements have settled in this week. Ragg Mopp has always slept on the bed down at the foot. Beanie sleeps on a doggie pillow on the floor and Cecil didn’t exactly know where he belonged until I pat a small towel on top of the covers at the foot of the bed and that is his bed now. It’s a King sized bed so Cecil and Ragg Mopp don’t have to be too close. Ragg Mopp gets cranky if Cecil snuggles next to him when he is sleeping but Beanie and Cecil snuggle sometimes. Animals. What fun they can be. :D
I will make my cottage cheese Jell-O salad after I get off here so it will be nice and cold come dinner time. I’ll make the cornbread closer to dinner time, which will be 7 pm, so it will still be warm so the butter will melt that the fellows will smear on it. I won’t be doing that for I like it plain with my beans. I put a fresh cube in my little keeper so they can use nice soft butter that way. I might even make some Krusteaz muffins to eat with fruit for dessert. If no one wants dessert than we can have them for later. Will said he will have a 3 course meal ~ beans, beans, & beans. These muffins are so good with a boiled egg and some fruit for a nice brunch or breakfast. I am going to add 2 teaspoons of freshly grated lemon peel to the batter for this batch of muffins.
DONNA FAYE They sound so inept at that hospital I would be scared to go there. If the clerical do that shoddy work what are the folks doing that run the place. I sure hope the doctors that treat you are a better class of workers, surely they are. :) The reputation of a hospital starts with the folks at the front desk. :soap: Once I had to go back for a mameogram and was charged for the second one because my insurance wouldn’t pay for two so closely performed together. This last time I told the gal if she didn’t get it right that time she wouldn’t get a second chance. No second chances. Is this procedure you are going for supposed to tell them what is wrong with you like an exploratory event. Or are they actually going to fix your problems. I hope they fix your problems for you have been going through this long enough.
JEAN You are quite welcome for the recipe. If you ever want more just let me know and I will be happy to ablige. Great idea to freeze those yummie :cookie:s. I can just see in my minds eye you and your cat sleeping in the recliner. AW such a life.
GET A BETTER RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR FOOD
Look at food like it’s a relationship. Either it’s working for you or you need to break up. You can eat a chocolate chip cookie,:cookie: but you shouldn’t eat a dozen. If you need to eat a dozen, it’s time to break up with cookies.
If you’re craving chocolate, there’s no reason to give up. You can eat three Hershey’s kisses :chockiss: to satisfy your sweet-tooth – they add up to just 100 calories.
Everybody have a wonderful afternoon. Type at y’all later.

Maggie -- It never did warm up today, I think it was 4 late this afternoon. We're back down to -1 right now and in a "watch" all day tomorrow. The map shows a possibility of 6" so we'll see how much lands; with the wind it could be blizzardly out. Bob tells Maddy that beans are the musical food . . . "the more you eat, the more you toot!" She loves baked beans and he always teases her whenever I fix them. I'm sure your meal tonight was a hit! :T I like the tips for today -- moderation is the key and no deprivation on WW! I'm off to watch the news!
01-20-2012, 10:56 AM
Good Morning, Flowers! It's snowing and enough so that area schools are starting 2 hours late and/or have cancelled. I'm glad I don't have to think about that any more. The superintendent we have now makes the call very early unlike the previous goofus who waited until after some of us were in the building. I was going to run a couple errands but may wait and see what the weather does. I don't have to go anywhere.
Guess I will do some laundry and start my packing list. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday, enjoy your day, and stay warm!

:chef:GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
Oh Magnolias it is cold here. Just 10º and not expected to get over 32º this partly sunny day in the Heartland but not snowing. I am up earlier than usually but I woke up and felt like I had enough sleep so got up before the dogs and cat were awake. Now, that’s a happening for sure. Dinner was wonderful last evening and I only had to use 4 of my weekly plus points. That is what they are there for. :cp: I had mixed up :chef: a Devils Food Cake mix using 1 cup of water and 1 cup of fat free vanilla flavored Greek yogurt instead of the other ingredients called for, plus my box mix was a sugar free mix sweetened with Splenda®. The men raved at how nice and moist the cake was. :cheer2: I had never done that before and the experiment turned out well for sure. There wasn’t any yogurt taste at all. It was just velvety and super moist. I baked it in a bundt pan and gave it a thin wash of sour cream frosting. Our guest took a big piece with him when he left along with a large bowl of the beans and a request for a copy of my Cowboy Bean recipe. The fat free cornbread I made by Krusteaz was also a big hit. I love it when a plan comes together. Will has requested that I make meatloaf for our next Thursday evening meal get together. That will be easy and I’ll serve baked potatoes and green beans and corn and a nice fresh salad. I may even bake some Rhodes rolls. For dessert, to enjoy with coffee later I do believe I’ll serve some sugar free~ fat free pudding.
Yikes I just realized that it is already the 20th of the month and it is more than half over. We will be in February before we know it. I have been so busy trying to keep my FOCUS that time marched on but not without me. For here I am still aware and writing each morsel that I bite. I am doing this one day at a time and it seems to be working to help me to stay aware.
JEAN You will be in Hawaii soon and leave all that snow behind. I can just see you wading through that snow to the tanning salon. I imagine you have some color by now don’t you. How many more sessions do you have before you go? Where we get our hair cut they also have a tanning salon and some of those folks that use it are nice looking ~ not a bit pale. They have made those tanning beds so much safer now even for sensitive skin folks.
TRY AN AROMATHERAPY FIX
Aromatherapy is used to change moods through scent. To curb craving for sweet treats, aromatherapy aficionados place two drops of grapefruit essential oil onto a handkerchief and inhale to halt a sweets craving.
To stay satiated, eat three similarly caloric meals and one or more planned snacks daily.
Have a great day Magnolias. Type at y'all later

Good morning gals! Woweee, Maggie and Jean sure are having some cold weather. It is cool here, but not really cold. It is an ugly overcast with no sun though and that is so depressing.
I never did get upstairs yesterday. I am just going to wait until Sunday and do it then. We have commissary shopping tomorrow and we need to go tomorrow as I am running out of all kinds of stuff.
I just finished a great medical mystery book and am back to the Grisham book. It is a well written book, but it is about sort of sleazy ambulance chasers and that's not my thing, but he writes so well I will definitely finish it.
Maggie: The nurse that is a noodlehead isn't at the hospital, but at the clinic. She is the gyn's nurse and scheduling nurse. The hospital called yesterday for my pre registration stuff and it was a little difficult because he kept cutting out on my and I kept having to have him repeat everything. I don't think it was my phone, but their system. I am now registered and next Thursday will go and get pre admitted, which includes the blood tests and all my insurance info and such as copay and whatever. We actually like this hospital even though it is old. Jack had both surgeries and I had both my surgeries at this hospital and my mammograms are always done at this hospital. The clinic, not so much for the most part though I love my new doctor and the gyn is ok, not as great as the other one, but she is ok too. The practice has a huge medicaid, medicare, government patients, which is of course why we have our drs here. Tricare has limited big practice options and Jack and I like where you can get your blood tests and such all done and not have to go one place for regular dr, another place for test, another for a gyn, etc. This is kind of a combination thing. She is going to use a scope to look at the inside of my uterus before she does the procedure then she inserts this sort of hand fan looking thing that then expands in the uterus and cauterizes the whole inside of the uterus, causing scarring which should solve the problem of my symptoms. I haven't heard anything from anyone at the ct scan place or the gyn or her nurse and the nurse said she was going to call and get the results so I would have thought if they found something they would call and have me come in. That is a good thing because it means all the organs and everything in my abdomen and pelvis along with my kidneys and bladder are in good shape for the procedure.
Jean: I think the whole rhyming is "Beans, beans the magical fruit, the more you eat, the better you toot, the better you toot, the better you feel, so let's have beans for every meal!" I am sure Maddie would giggle at that or roll her eyes! ;) I like good baked beans myself and around here with all the bbq, there is every kind of baked bean there is. One place makes fabulous beans that have bell pepper and pieces of pulled pork in them. They are really yummy. Husbands are so scatter brained I think. Jack said he checked the Employee ID numbers and they were correct and he resubmitted and they rejected it again so I went upstairs and got the 1099R which is the Navy one and the W-2 which is the city one, he kept putting the wrong number in. Of course the instructions told him to look in "box B" but he's a man and thinks he knows everything so didn't pay any attention and put the number from box D on the city in not once but twice. I saw the booboo right away and redid it and the thing was accepted and it said we should have our money by the 3rd.
Well gals, it is lunch time so I guess I better find something. You all have a wonderful fun weekend! Faye
01-21-2012, 12:56 AM
It's -6 right now and "feels" like -22 outside tonight. :brr: :brr:
Maggie -- Yes, I have tan lines that will never see the light of day. :o I have 3 more sessions of probably 16 minutes each. Most like to bake for 20 minutes but I get too hot even though there are fans we can use. I should try the grapefruit oil. I have a candle that smells like something is baking. :T Planning ahead for what to eat is a good plan. My problem is that I'm not always hungry for what I've planned to eat.
"Gma" -- What was the name of the medical mystery you just finished? I'm always ready for a good book. I can't used to beans being called a fruit . . . sort of like rhubarb being a vegetable. Maddy gets a kick out of the jingle, and Bob does sing the whole thing sometimes. I'm glad you found Jack's mistake on the tax form. Not taking the time to carefully read before filling out questions is my trick. :o Good luck commissary shopping tomorrow!
