Who's here this month?
Me! Me!
How are you?
Not out of the woods with Dad eldercare and mental health stuff but a WHOLE lot better now that he's stable on meds and not being an angry, raging elder scaring everyone with his temper. That's for sure.
How was last month and all the holidaying?
Had a reasonably peaceful holiday with the parents. I was worried about Dad pulling a stunt. So glad that did not come to pass. In-laws were fun, so were friends. Wonderfully low key and restoring holiday break.
How's your PCOS management going?
Well, I'm back on the allergy shots. Got all the testing done. I have endoc coming up this month. Weight not moving much, but taking my Levoxyl for the thyroid and trying to remember the Met.
What are you working on this month?
Started food logging and some exercise last month. So wanting to stick with it for now before increasing.
Trying to get the house into shape.

Who's here this month?
I'm new. Not that new, I keep restarting and coming back, but new to this subforum. I'm Jessica and I've got 75lbs to lose (25 till I hit the point where my PCOS symptoms mostly abate.)
How are you?
Okay. I've been back at work 2 months after having my 7 month old, and its not wonderful, but I'll live
How was last month and all the holidaying?
It resulted in gaining 10lbs. So not great.
How's your PCOS management going?
Right now, hair growth is pretty bad but I stay on top of it. I'm not on any meds since I've determined I can control it with diet, exercise, herbs and plenty of time waxing.
I'm fortunate that I've (so far) never developed acanthosis nigricans, balding, or extreme obesity. My plan is to never go higher than what I am now so as to avoid these things (not very original. Heh.)
What are you working on this month?
Eliminating boredom eating; possibly joining a gym (I did go often before I met DH)
Who's here this month?
I am. Still in the middle of a lot of things, so I won't be around much, but things should hopefully calm down soon.
How are you?
Good. A bit tired. Excited that it's a new year, I always love new beginnings.
How was last month and all the holidaying?
A little crazy. Healthy crazy, in the sense that I'm not eating like I used to eat back three years ago, but I was eating more carbs (even if they were "healthy" carbs) than I should be and my exercise went downhill with all the commitments. I had to let go because I have to balance seeing people I normally don't see who come to visit versus going to the gym and missing out on that. So, I tried to find some balance. Still trying to do it. Things calm down in the next week or so!
How's your PCOS management going?
Good. Got my period right on schedule. :)
What are you working on this month?
Getting back on the food/exercise horse. I also have a ride coming up that's 62 miles and I need to get ready for it. We only have six weeks left and I haven't broken 40 miles yet.
So, I'll be focusing on that and working on my thesis.

Me! I made it two months in a row, so yay for that :)
How are you?
Stressed, but good.
How was last month and all the holidaying?
Good, miraculously. I had one day of not eating on my diet plan, but I've been on track the rest of the time. It helps being far away from friends and family...no parties to go to!
How's your PCOS management going?
Almost through my first month of orthotrycyclen lo. Had some issues in the beginning but it seems they're leveling out. Started spotting a few days early, so I might actually have a period (first one in months!)
What are you working on this month?
C25k program. Almost finished week one....have I mentioned I suck at running??

•Who's here this month?
Hello Im Grace, pretty new. New to this thread..
• How are you?I am good have about 50 pounds to lose over all
• How was last month and all the holidaying?i gained 3 pounds.. and on the road to losing them
• How's your PCOS management going? i hate it. i hate pcos lol.
• What are you working on this month?
running 3-5 miles a week, cutting back on carbs, and staying positive.
Who's here this month?
Well, I'm around.
How are you?
I'm better than I have been. :) Starting college in a couple of weeks. Nervous since I've never been, but I'm excited.
How was last month and all the holidaying?
It could have been better, but it definitely could have been worse!
How's your PCOS management going?
Not well at all at this very moment. I had been taking my metformin again, but I stopped.. again. I still haven't made my endo appointment, but I should probably get on that. Haven't had a period in about a year (I think).
What are you working on this month?
Trying (again) to get myself into a routine and actually stick to it and lose some of this weight!

Who's here this month?
Still here !
How are you?
Headachey! However, I've been doing excellent this new year with low GI lifestyle shift. My cravings are gone. Still on metformin since September. Haven't lost much since I last posted in mid November sometime. I lost my job late October and have had major issues finding a new one so I've been incredibly depressed and just eating and doing whatever. Only recently I've regained the will and want to lose weight and find health. So about a month or so off track. I gained no weight during my bad behavior/depression month.
How was last month and all the holidaying?
I was pretty good at other peoples houses on holiday days, I have issues with eating in front of others. I don't eat much and eat very controlled so I would eat real healthy. However cookie fiesta at home didn't help. It's all gone now though.
How's your PCOS management going?
Still on metformin. Getting my low GI back on track and am starting exercising more again.
What are you working on this month?
Low GI, learning recipes, finding more supportive sites for low GI diets. Working on emotional changes constantly. Hoping I find a job. =(
Welcome everyone!
I love the start of a new year because you can start fresh, let the worries from last year behind, and focus on what you really want to get done.
Happy New Year everyone!
I'm doing great. The family events/outings/excuses are all rapidly slowing down. I'm back on eating healthy and on plan and exercising my little butt off.
I'm feeling better already.

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

Hey everyone! :)
Just wanted to pop in for a quick check in. I had my endoc lab today and I see the endoc in 2 weeks. I'm keeping up with the food log and either maintaining or small loss. So that part is ok.
Exercise is on hold -- my IT band probs started up again along the outer part of my thigh. Made massage appt to work that out. It hurts and I'm taking tylenol but I know a session with the therapist will hurt like heck but then feel a whole lot better. (It's an old injury, doc says there's nothing to do about it other than it will flare up now and then).

Congrats on the first 20 lbs! WTG!
CHECK IN
Ok, I saw the allergist and got my shots and then got some fruit. I was having a wigginz with cookies. I got them for DH but I like those too so I had a binge. I do better when I get him snacks I do not like. Then there isn't even the temptation to raid his junk food basket!
I feel craaaazy PMS and I wish period would just HURRY UP because the cravings sweets is killing me. Ugh.
I'm off to clean the kitchen and remove any junky food, make a few dishes so it is already there so there's no excuse to go off the path into cookie land again. Sigh.
A.
Welcome Tonya!
All this exercising (back on my daily habit again) is causing me to retain water (scale is up) and to be tired in the mornings. I'm getting 8 hours of sleep, but my body is crying out, "What? Exercise? I thought you were done with that $%^@!"
Oh body, if you only knew what was coming down the line....

• What are you working on this month?
So many things. I am training for my very first 5K. That will be in March. I can't believe it but I am SUPER excited and can't wait to cross that finish line. I am also trying to lose this weight FINALLY because we are really trying for a baby this time. Before we were sort of trying but now we really are trying and want a little bundle of joy. Have the support of friends and family and I am looking forward to this journey. Plus, I can't quit because my sister is one of the mentors in the group I just joined yesterday. LOL Oh I can't wait! But thats pretty much it.

Ok Re-posting clearly I'm still writing the wrong year on my checks too eek.
• Who's here this month?
Hi It’s me way late, but been really busy, getting ready to go back to school and looking for a job.
• How are you?
I’m doing ok been struggling with working out, and weight I always gain weight when I workout but I lose inches… still trying to deal with the thought of gaining weight to be thinner. Finally Broke my plateau with the weight!!! 165.8! It took forever and I don’t want to let the lower weight go.
• What are you working on?
I’ve been really focused on getting healthy been taking my vitamins, set a goal to work our atleast 3-4 days a week I think that is manageable. And been sticking with the low carb I found I am getting the best results because of the low carb if I stick with it especially at dinner I find the largest loss.
• How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?
Last month was a crazy nightmare, I had my period 3 separate times all the way through the new year, the last time was by far the most painful I didn’t even want to get out of bed, talk about a holiday ruined.

Just a quickie -- I'm 3/3 this week. Today will decide it -- if I come out this week meeting the daily -500 calories thing or coming above. Right now it's a draw thanks to the PMS cookie freakout.
But I'm content with that and will try hard to have today tip it over to the "on track more than not" side.
I'm also glad to even be tracking again. Doing my doc thing, and got my hip/leg thing looked at so I can exercise again.
Go me! Baby steps, but moving forward!

Who's here this month?
I'm new as well, or at least I havn't been here for a few years.
How are you?
Better than I have been for the last few years, excerciing heaps and eating on plan (high protein/low carb low calorie as I have had a VSG).
How was last month and all the holidaying?
For the first time since I had wls I gained 2kg (4.4lbs), from grazing on junk and three days of drinking 3-4 glasses of alcohol. That was an awful shock and I have worked extremley hard to get them off again.
How's your PCOS management going?
Fine I guess. Weight and occasional coarse hair are now my only issues. For the first time in several (4?) years I have gone back to taking 2000mcg Metformin ER and I am pretty sure it is the only reason I am loosing weight now as diet/excercise does not do it for me. Or at least with the combination of the new thyroid medication I am on.
What are you working on this month?
Sticking to plan with diet and exercising at least 6.5 hours per week (3 x weights training, swimming laps every day, horse riding, treadmill and elliptical.
My check in this week...
I'm struggling. I've had family visiting for the holidays (they finally leave!) and it's been one excuse after another to eat out and eat unhealthy.
I've been exercising, but like they say on here, you can't exercise poor eating habits and that's exactly what I have right now.
And it's frustrating because it's just bad HABITS... bad behaviors, which can be corrected, but I am struggling (lazy?) to have fixed it back on January 2nd and annoyed that I have to fix it now, and I hate seeing the scale move UP, rather than down.
Argh. I know it's worth it. I know it is. I just wish it was easy.

Just a quick check in -- got my allergy shot and popped in at the library today. Picked up some books about bipolar (my dad) and then prediabetes/IR (me) so I could have some health reading.
Pretty ok day but tomorrow I want to make some dishes ahead so I don't have to worry about it the next few days.
Like a quiche made for my breakfasts or some soup for lunches.
I tend to stray if I don't have good food handy and that's an area I want to work on.

Doing ok for myself -- Mom called me up and Dad is on a roll again. He's not SO bad that he's pitching a fit, but he's pretty cranked up. Sigh.
Looking forward to tomorrow.
A.
I'm feeling highly emotional and I wonder if it's because I've lowered my carbs.
Carbs in our diets give us serotonin boosts and I wonder if this was a shock, I went down too quickly, rather than gradually...
Eh, I know I'll be fine in a few days.

Hey!! I was in such a funk today. Slowly going down the depression ladder. Ugh! It sucked and the weather wasn't helping. But I did get out and walked 2 miles with my friend. Planning to go out again tomorrow. Hope tomorrow is better =]
astrophe
01-25-2012, 10:49 AM
Nico: Glad you went for a walk. Have you been seen for the depression?
My check in:
Had a small outbursty thing but Dad is calm again.
House declutter is not going as fast as I want, but there's small progress.
Same for me -- lost 2 lbs. I'm not sure it will stick around but something is better than nothing and I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe I'm on it again with the food logging. See endoc tomorrow, so hoping labs are ok.
A.
My weight is slowly going back down again. I'm doing all my exercise and trying to eat as many whole foods as possible. I've been reading on recipes on how to make things at home that don't take a lot of time but are a millions healthier than buying a jar of this or a can of that.
I was also looking at crock pot recipes yesterday.
Looking at my food diary entries, I know I'm not eating enough protein so I need to figure out a way to do that.

Just got home. All solid except a bit high on the triglycerides and a few hormones that I think are the liver but I forgot. So now I have to look it up again. Main prob is still weight loss. Blood sugar and all the rest (including previous Vit D and B12 deficiencies) are great.
So I'm off to look that one thing up, plan menus, and do something active sometime today. I don't care how long or how short. Anything. Even Wii!

Astrophe -- it 's probably the liver and it's probably showing signs of NAFLD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-alcoholic_fatty_liver_disease). I had the same thing happen when my trigs were high and I even had an MRI done to see how far it had progressed. If this is the case, it's a question of improving your diet (yay!) and really not eating any refined carbs and increasing your exercise levels.
Glad everything else looked great!!!!
Today, I'm feeling much better. I have an appointment with a nutritionist tomorrow that I might cancel. I wanted to see one because I'm doing cycling and I don't know how to feed myself with that much exercise, but I think I might just do trial and error and then when I really can't, then go see one. I don't know yet.
astrophe
01-26-2012, 08:01 PM
Thanks! Yes it's the non fatty liver -- I have had it pop up and disappear and I can't quite nail the diet to keep it away.
I guessing it popped up again because of holiday eats? We'll see my next round of labs if I can get that one down.
But I'm pleased the rest of my lab things are on track. Now it really does boil down to doing something about my schedule so I can exercise regularly.
It always comes back to that. I talked to DH about it to see how he can help free up some of my time. It's been getting better but I still feel kinda crazy.
Both the nurse and the doc asked about my dad. It was kind of them to ask and remember that we've been having so many eldercare problems. Sigh.
Hope things work out (however you decide) on the nutritionist appt. :)

Update: Got my TOM finally... but really sometimes I wonder at all why I even want it. My TOM is awful, I feel like a crazy person when I get it, it lasts 10 days and is extremely painful. I feel so frustrated b/c I am trying to be functional and do mind over matter for the pain uh its so frustrating. I find my period to be so debilitating. I find it hard to exercise because its so painful, when I know exercise would be the best remedy. Plus all I want is sugar/chocolate. Gain almost 4 lbs back in 4 days :( While I don't want to go on birth control (tried many makes me super emotional), is there anything you ladies do for your TOM to make it not as terrible?

Ok, just very exhausted, kids are sucking the energy out of me. Couldn't believe what my weigh in number was this morning I don't even remember the last time I was that weight. Just for some reason am not as happy as I should be lol I think I am still in shock and disbelief. I can't wait to go down another size.
How was last month and all the holidaying? Not too bad, weight was slow to come off but I am moving on full speed ahead. CAn't cry over spilled milk.
How's your PCOS management going? Noticing small changes here and there with the weight loss, feels like my face looks somewhat normal, taking biotin for hair loss noticed it helps a little, now waiting to see if my period will come on its own on time and how long it will last
