Helllloooo New Year!

Today I was cleaning out my old planner and found my measurements from 11/1/2010 (so 14 months ago). It is so awesome to see how far I've come...I'd been discouraged, really for no reason at all since I've been steadily losing. Can't wait to see what this year has in store. My goal is to hit my goal weight by March 1, then find a good balance of eating and exercise. I did go for a run yesterday...it's still too much activity for the # of cals I'm eating, but it felt good.

What a great find! I weighed myself this morning so I would know what I weighed at the start of 2012 and see where I land in 2013. Should be interesting. ;)

Big Dog..
On MFP.. I am trying to log in the Cappuccino Decafffeinated by Metabolic, with no luck.. If I put in the 80 calories, it does not post the protein nor the fat.. Any suggestions? I am new to this, and appreciate any help. I see Cappucino, but nothing close and if I put in Decaf. Cappuccino Nestles comes up..

I cannot find this at the bottom of the page as they say..Just press "Create a New Food" at the bottom of any screen where you search for foods in our database.
Thanks

Patzi: the decaf cappuccino is already in the MFP database. Type in Metabolic Research Cappuccino and it should come up. I have found most of the MRC items in the MFP database, but you have to type in Metabolic research for them to come up.

Helllllloooo Ladies!!! Hope everyone's new year is off to a great start! I weigh in tomorrow...went on a little splurge last night and ate about 7 mini chocolate bars from herseys and 4 cherry cordial kisses. (VERY slow night at work..completely bored and knowing where they stash the candy doesn't help!) After work I planned on doing hip hop abs and then Zumba, but ended up crashing. So this morning I went on a 2 mile walk. Was very surprised at how well it went!!! Will try to do at least one work out video tonight that way by weigh in tomorrow I will have blasted those dang chocolates out of my system...(I'm crossing my fingers now for good luck!) For all those that don't have MFP...it's super easy!!!! It also helps me plan my meals for the day...I input early what I want and see how the sodium, calories, and protein add up...I make tweeks, but just don't forget if you do snacks something that's not planned make sure to put it in. Soon it'll be second nature to you that right after you stick something in your mouth your inputing it into MFP. Happy inputing!!! :D

I'm giving MFP a shot. Given that I'm about to go into stabilization and maintenance mode, I best get into the practice of knowing what my calories in are. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well, I think 2 if not 3 of my coworkers are now going to sign up for MRC because of my success (do I get anything for referring??) I ran into someone tonight I hadn't seen in a few months and she's like 'wow, I didn't even recognize you, you look great.' Funny thing is to me I don't look that much different...

Happy New Year!

Yesterday was my 33rd birthday, and it was so relaxing! Slept in, ate breakfast, took a nap, ate lunch...lol. I did go for a run after my lunch, though, in my brand new, fancy-schmancy running shoes. MIL got me a gift certificate to a running store for Christmas, so I picked out new running shoes last Saturday (after I got a massage--ahhhh!). They're so pretty, it almost makes me sad to know my running in them is going to make them dirty and worn eventually, lol. ;)

My husband spent all day smoking ribs on Saturday, so that's what we had for dinner last night. Well, mostly. He had ribs. I had some orange roughy fish and green beans, then had one or two ribs. It was delicious, but rich enough that I was satisfied with one rib and the rest of my healthier meal (thank God, because I'm pretty sure those ribs were pretty darn fatty). We go out for dinner at a fancy restaurant with my in-laws to celebrate my and my brother-in-law's birthday tomorrow night, so I'm trying to eat lightly between now and then so I can enjoy it mostly-guilt-free. :)

Good luck to all this year in your weight-loss and fitness goals. Many of you are so close to starting maintenance--I'm rooting for you!

Hello ladies!

Love catching up :) Reminds me that I am not alone!

I am happy that the temptations of the holidays are pretty much over for me. A bit more of a challenge for me than I want to admit. Sure didn't realize the importance I put on foods and desserts this time of year....now that I am paying attention:) Fortunately, I did pay attention and made better choices than in years past!

I am so ready to take that next step in this program. I can sense it because every time I think of the efforts involved in losing more, I get overwhelmed. I really do just want to learn at this point how to stay where I am at one day at a time.

One thing for sure is that I think the accountability part of this program is what helps me the most. That regularly scheduled WI every week keeps me focused and on track. I read that from many of you also. We have learned to tweek and do whatever necessary to accomodate that "out to dinner coming up" or that WI in a couple of days:) Accountability...yep, I think I see why many people stay with the program even on Maintenance...they extend their time because that accountability part is so crucial...I would bet that Patzi would agree with this :) Just think what happens to those that go off track and gain it all back. Are they still checking in once a week with anyone? I am rambling.....lol

Doing this will likely be the key to success for me anyway...

Well, happy weight loss everyone! Stay motivated and believe that you are worth every effort because we all are!

Tami-good luck to you as you transition to stabilization and maintenance. Can't wait to hear about your next steps in the journey.

It has turned blasted cold here, so my walking outside will be more limited. Got DH to get up with me today and do some push ups, lunges, and planks. I asked him if he'd do it with me 2 days a week. Keeping it light for now so I don't spike my hunger and so we don't need too much time.

jenrummie - Welcome! Visit us often as this board is a wonderful source of support. The ladies are amazing!

nwcgina - Yes! You do get something for referring people. Make sure the people signing up tell the counselors it was you that got them in there and I think you get $25 in Meta-Bucks to use at the center for each person.

teacherlady79 -Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a wonderful day. I totally get what you're saying about running shoes. I need a new pair and yet, I know they'll be dirty before I know it.

Tamikl - With us around, you are never alone. You are absolutely right about the accountability factor. I know I couldn't do this without my check-in's at the center. That's me.

Weigh in at lunch! Happy 3rd of January!!!! ;) :newyear:

Welcome to the newbies and great job everyone for getting through the holidays (even if it was harder than we imagined) :)..

I'm so happy to say that I earned another week for losing over NYE, but it wasn't a "real" loss b/c I had gained 3 lbs with TOM lingering on and on.

HOWEVER, I can report that for the holidays, overall, I am down 9 lbs. That's since November 21. I know it's not a lot, and it's not what I wanted and/or planned. BUT, it's a 9lb loss over the holidays when most people probably gained (most people not watching what they're eating). So, I'm off to a happy start for this New Year (other than being lazy and not doing a darn thing I need to do except eat right)..lol..

I now have until February 27 (unless I earn more free weeks) until my plan is up. I have 20 lbs to lose. That's 8 weeks, so 2.5lbs per week average. I hope I can do it. My hubby's bday is February 29 (Leap Day Baby), and my girls' bdays are Feb 3 & Mar 1. My goal was to be to goal by hubby's bday, so this is perfect timing for my program.

Bigdog..I still can't get the chocolate truffle to mix well hot..it's so nasty and clumpy! Also, if you use 3/4 of a scoop it's 21g protein, not 23 (according to my tub of protein mix). The Twisted Cherry is growing on me and I think I'd order that again, but not the Fuzzy Navel. I love the ProtiDiet hot cocoa mix as well. yummy.

TeacherLady..I got my hubby new running shoes for Christmas, but I really need to get some for myself as well.. I just haven't run in 7 months so I don't think they're that worn out yet (sad)..We have a 5k coming up in 8 weeks..OMG! I don't know if that's enough time to train, but I'm going to start tomorrow! Thank goodness we can go to a gym, b/c even though I live in FL it's supposed to be 27 tomorrow and that's just TOO darn cold for me to run outside..brrrrr!

Welcome JimRummie & Leo..this is an awesome group!

Hi LeoTheLioness, I also started at the same time you did and have a class on Friday as well. I am hoping I have lost some this past weekend. How have you been doing with the pre-conditioning? The hardest time of day for me has been at dinner. I do just fine all day, then let me spend any time with my family and I am eating exactly what they're eating. I have got to get myself organized. Good luck and I look forward to losing weight along with you and the other folks here.

Hi KG,
Today is my first day of "pre-conditioning." So far, so good! I'm about 1/2 way through my required amount of water (bathroom breaks have DEFINITELY increased - LOL!), made myself eat breakfast and packed my lunch (for the first time in YEARS)!

Getting organized is key! I've been down this journey before & I know the importance of organization, writing down everything I eat during the day and pre-planning what I'm going to eat EVERY meal. It takes time & effort but WE'RE WORTH IT! :carrot:

Rocki - thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it!

I look forward to progressing with all of you as well!

Leo,

yes, we are worth it. I need to keep reminding myself that it's OK to do this for me. I somehow get lost in the mix of my husband and sons and all their stuff. It's an excuse I've used for too long now.

It has taken a little to get used to all the bathroom trips for me too. LOL

I actually just got back from the MRS center. I started preconditioning on Friday, Dec. 30, so they asked me to come back in either today or tomorrow to weigh in. I haven't lost anything according to their scale. I did, however, show loss of 4 lbs on my home scale. I am a little discouraged, but I haven't been perfect on my eating, so after 5 days I don't think I should be bothered by this. I do wonder if anyone has lost weight during pre-conditioning and how much. I go back on Friday, Jan 6, for my first class and to get my menu at that point. Another thing that is bothering me a little is that my blood pressure was really high when they checked it. I take meds for blood pressure and normally have 120/80. I am going to stop by my dr's office later and have them check it for me just in case any of the supplements I'm taking are making it go up.

Leo, are you taking any of the supplements and if so, how is that going for you?

KG,
I've been reading around the forum and some people have dropped a few lbs. while pre-conditioning, but don't get discouraged! We are all different, so don't compare yourself to anyone! When you went to the Center, did they give you any explanation as to why you may not have shown any loss?

Since you admit you haven't been "perfect on your eating" where did you "fall off the wagon?" Have you been drinking all of your water? Not only that, but the handout I was given re: water says "the overweight person needs one additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight" so for me, that means 96 ozs. of water per day, but I've resolved to drink a gallon (just 'cuz it's easier to measure).

Also, have you considered some light-weight exercise? I've been advised it's not really necessary, but I can't see NOT doing it. I plan on starting pretty slow w/20 mins. on the elliptical or treadmill 3x a week, then increasing a few minutes each week until I'm up to 45 mins. Then, I'll incorporate some light weight lifting.

As far as supplements, I'm not taking any (at this point). MRC recommended MRC-6 & CortTrim, but I haven't purchased. I'm somewhat afraid of "supplements" because I don't want to become dependent on them for results, however, I will consider it again in a couple weeks. I want to see progress without them first.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I WON THE CONTEST!!!!!!

Not sure if anyone remembers, but my local MRC center entered my before & after pics, plus my testimonial into a contest with other MRC's centers in our area. They just told me at lunch that I won!!!! It gets even better, turns out I didn't just win locally. I won for the whole dang state!!!!!!

:celebrate:

If things couldn't get any better, I lost 3 pounds since Friday. I was excited about that and then they inform me since I lost weight over the New Year's holiday, I get 4 extra weeks. Surprise to me. Too cool!!!

LeoTheLioness -Welcome! You are dead on about getting organized. That is always my biggest piece of advice when starting out. Good luck on your journey!

Rocki - I think 9 pounds over the holidays is amazing! You should be so proud of yourself. :)

kuntreegirl - Welcome! If your scales showed a 4 pound weight loss and nothing at the center there's a couple of questions to ask. First, what time of day did you go into the center? Was it morning, afternoon, or evening. We always weigh the most in the evening because we've spent the day eating and drinking and that can lead to an artifical weight increase by a few pounds compared to first thing in the morning. Also, what were the clothes you were wearing? Most of us will admit to weighing on our home scales, first thing in the morning, after the bathroom trip, wearing next to nothing. If you are wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, for example, that can actually weigh a pound or two. I always carry clothes with me and change into them when I weigh in. This way I know the change on the scales is me and not the clothes. If all else fails, it may be the scales. You may need a new battery or a new one altogether. I hope this helps some and which you much success. Just hang in there. :D

patzi -I know you'll have those 2 pounds off before you know it. You've always been awesome about that. ;) Thanks for being my inspiration!!!!!

Leo,

first of all, thanks so much for the concern and support. I really appreciate it. I know it could be my scales. They are digital and never do I get the same reading twice, but it's usually off by only a few ounces or a pound or so. I think I am going to go get a regular set of scales, and take them with me to my next weigh in to see if they are the same.

I fall of the wagon at supper time with my family. I haven't gotten organized yet and like you said earlier, I know that will be key. I will get there though. I have been drinking all my water and then some, but I am a water hound. I love water and have for years. I rarely drink anything else. So that's not an issue, but I haven't been doing anything physical, so I will have to get moving.

I also have so many concerns about the supplements, but before I went to MRC, I was considering the lap-band. So I thought I would give something else a little less drastic, a really good try and totally commit myself, then if that didn't work, I couldnt' say it wasn't because I didn't give it my all. Please keep me informed how you do without the supplements, I would really like to keep my money if it's possible to do this without them.

JenB72,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You should be so proud of yourself. That's awesome.

Thank you for your concern as well. I think it is probably my scale. I haven't been happy with it, although I was liking the weight it was showing me. Also, you are so right about the time I weigh at home and the clothes I wear. I went to the center today around 11 a.m., so I had eaten breakfast and a snack, but not had lunch yet. I know that could make a bit of a difference. It's just the time that I am able to go. Like I told Leo, I think I will buy a regular scale and take it with me the next time to see if it matches the center's scale.

Do you take the supplements and what do you think of them? I'm sorry if you discussed this in an earlier post, I still haven't gotten a chance to read back very far. Thanks again.

You can do it! :carrot: The Couch to 5K program (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml) is 9 weeks long, but I was running the full 5K distance in the time allotted before the end of week 8. It's a great program, and I found it was something that eases you into running in as painless a way as possible (I was only really sore after the first run or two. After that, it's just been a little bit of stiffness the next day). There are also music podcasts with cues available to help you with the intervals (so you don't have to try to time yourself while running to your own music). I really like these podcasts: http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=57826

Keep me updated on your training! I actually only trained about 3-4 weeks before my 5K race and I survived...though it was really, really tough. So after my race, I continued on my training where I left off. I just started week 9, and then I'll be moving over to the Bridge to 10K program. Exciting!

Good luck! :dizzy:

That's exactly how I was about the supplements. I did no supplements (other than a multivitamin & fish oil, as well as the protein drinks) for the majority of my weight loss. I finally used phentatrim towards the end, as my weight loss had stalled considerably and I needed to lose 10lbs more to start stabilization. I could have probably pushed through and done it without the phentatrim, but I really, really was ready to be done.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I WON THE CONTEST!!!!!!

Like I said, I didn't do any supplements until the very end. The diet plan is strong enough to stand alone and work without supplements. However, I'm not anti-supplements...I just didn't want to spend the money on something that may or may not do anything, and I was concerned about putting unregulated supplements into my body (FDA doesn't really regulate supplements like they do drugs).

Given your history of high blood pressure and the meds you're on, I would definitely check with your doctor about any supplements you want to take ASAP, as you don't want it to affect your blood pressure or interact with your current meds.

TL,
Thanks for the reinforcement. We definitely have the same mindset! I am also taking fish oil (but I don't consider it a "weight loss" supplement), will definitely take the high protein drinks starting 1/7/12 and more than likely, a multi-vitamin.

I'm doing some preliminary research on vitamins that (supposedly) enhance your body's ability to burn fat (B6 and B12) and will let everyone know what I come up with in a couple days.

I'm 3/4 done with water intake for the day, had breakfast & lunch, but must admit, I am feeling a bit hungry right now. Tomorrow, I'm going to remember to pack more veggies for snacks.

Are you nuts?? 9 pounds over the holidays is GREAT!!

Happy New Year everyone!!

never made it to the Pelican Plunge...ended up in Urgent care w/ my Dad in law all day NY day. Gallbladder issues (he's in bad health and diabetic) have been working and babysitting my mum in law who has Alzheimers while my DH has been at the hospital w/ DIL...wow, happy new year, right? so trying to stay on plan and feed MIL - will definitely need a week of Mediquick when this is over!!j and another camping R&R!! after the 5th meal this week, she asked if we could go out and eat. haha! she may have lost her memory but seemed to remember i can't cook! if i had some protein bars, i probably should have given her those to eat! hadn't had time to exercise either :-(

Rocki, i put a TB of the choc. powder in my coffee in the am and it mixes well but you are right, i took a full scoop and put in hot water and it clumped bad! i swear w/ the first bottle i bought, it mixed well when hot. very strange! way to go w/ the 9 lb. loss!!! i was doing great till NY day and the family stuff!
oh,well had more collard greens today and a little bit of hopping john hoping for some luck!! :-)

i did get a chance to walk this am and it was 23 degrees! but it was so good to be out and walking, i just bundled up! high 43 today which is freezing for S.C! can't believe Christmas day i was in shorts and barefoot in the sand in FL - oh happy day!

Hi...
Wishing everyone a great weigh in if today is the day...

For those having a problem mixing some of the powders.. I was having a real problem with the cocoa, and I have a salad wisk, not a regular wisk, and I use that and really mix and it is clump free. However, have to mix for awhile to get it like that.. Rachel Ray uses one of those whisks when she makes her salad dressings...

Have a great day and think thin.

TL,
I actually took the whole program to my dr before I started and she gave me the OK. I wouldn't want to do anything that would make any medical issues worse. After yesterday's visit to MRC and the high blood pressure reading, I went by my dr's office and had them re-take it, and it was 122/74, which is usually about right. My dr said it may have been the machine they used to take it which usually doesn't have a large cuff, and that can make a difference. I am so glad to know that you lost weight without the supplements. I don't want to feel like I can't do it without them, but I also don't want to miss out on any tools that might help me. When you did take the phentatrim, did you notice a difference in yourself at all? Did you notice you didn't get hungry, or anything? I do know I have more energy, but it's not a nervous energy, I just don't get sleepy in the afternoon like I usually do. Of course that could be from not eating the carbs either. LOL

Welcome to Kuntreegirl and any other newbies I missed.

Thanks to everyone for your congrats on my 9 lbs loss over the holidays. I know, it really IS great. I just know if I stick to the plan that I can lose twice that much between now and program end. I just have to stick to it!

Patzi..what is a salad wisk? What does it look like? I used to sell Pampered Chef and have about every kitchen took you can imagine. I might have one! :) And I'm sure you'll be back @ 5 under by Friday.

TeacherLady..I've done the C25K training a few times and I love it (when I can get my butt there to do it). I was up to running the 5k in about 33 minutes and and when it came time for my actual race (in May) I just couldn't run the whole time. I don't even think I made it a quarter mile without having to walk. Problem is I train inside and I have allergies and asthma, so running outside has always been an issue for me. I *try* to get outside but it's difficult. I run much better on the treadmill. LOL

Bigdog..I'll try the tbs in my coffee, but unless I find that salad wisk Patzi is talking about, I won't be mixing that much of the chocolate in anything hot..yucky! Sorry about your mother and father-in-law. That's got to be tough. I know what you mean about the flip flops, sand and now 23 degrees! Brr..I think it was just under 30 here in West Central FL this morning.I've got leggings, jeans, silky thermal, sweater, and boots on today!

Jen! Congrats on winning that contest! That is SO awesome! You should be so proud of yourself for all that you've accomplished. Do you win anything other than the 4 extra weeks? Any other prizes or money? :) My center only gives 1 free week for losing over holidays (it used to be 2, not sure why they changed it). I really would love more free weeks. LOL

Anyway..You're amazing! Congrats again!

Just like some people have a "gym bag", I have a "MRC bag." It has my 3 ring binder that I keep all my food sheets and information sheets in and it also has my weigh in clothes. Easy peasy. :p I do take a few of their supplements and the rest I buy on my own OTC. The ones of theirs I take are MRC-6, Corti-Trim, and Phentratrim. I totally credit Corti-Trim with helping getting rid of my baby belly. The counselors were amazed yesterday when I got ready to weigh in that I'm PMSing and my belly was almost, dare I say it, flat. LOL My OTC sups are the Multi-Vitamin, Flax Seed Oil, B6, and MSM. While this works for me, it may not work for everyone. I have tried supplements which I will NEVER take again. However, it may be great for someone else. I do things by trial and error. I hope this helps you some.

Apparently, I won $100 for the contest. They're cutting the check for that. My counselor's happy because he gets $100 too! ;)

I finally got the commerical e-mailed to me by the center, but realized I don't want to upload it anywhere due to copyright issues. Murphy's Law, I would be the one nailed for it if I did. So, I am willing to e-mail it if you'd like to see it, however, I have to impose some conditions. You have to PM me with an e-mail address I can forward it to (like I said before, you can create a temporary gmail or yahoo account it you don't want to send out your real one) and you must be a consistent poster. After the whole menu fiasco, I'm not willing to e-mail it to anyone I haven't seen on a regular basis on this MRC board. Sorry lurkers, I really don't mean to be harsh, but the menu thing caused me problems and I'm not going to run into the same issue twice.

Thanks Jen, you answered a couple of questions I've been meaning to ask. Do most of you have a weigh in outfit? I was contemplating what to wear today and it has all been geared around my weigh in. I really could just change - duh Chickadee!

I've also been wondering about the Corti-Trim. I hate taking pills, but if they really work, I could force one more in. My belly is my worst area. My pants tend to be baggy in the butt and thighs and tighter on the belly. My body has changed so much as I've gotten older. Sometimes I feel like I'm living in someone elses body! ;)

Have a great day everyone!

Chickadee...I had a belly that wouldn't go away. When I first started going in and they took my initial measurements, I was stunned. Unlike most pregnant women who's bodies will lose 10-15 pounds off the bat after having a baby, I didn't. I lost the weight of the baby and that was it. I was dealing with severe pre-eclampsia (the munchkin was an emergency c-section 2 months early because I almost landed in a coma) so my body was retaining fluids like you wouldn't believe. To the point of 11 blood pressure pills a day after giving birth. When I got back to work and would sit at my desk, I had to sit up very straight because I could feel the rolls in my belly, something that I had never felt before. The Corti-Trim really targeted my mid-section for a while, inches were just going away at a rapid clip. Then nothing. Very frustrating. I quit taking it for a couple of months and when I started back, it started working again. Sometimes, you just need to take a break from things to get them working again...within reason. ;)

Hey Ladies...sorry I've fallen off the boards for a couple of days. I had to nurse my "baby" (DH) back to health. It never ceases to amaze me how much of a big baby men become when their sick. And to top it all off...I think I am coming down with it now too.

Had a horrible day at the center yesterday. My first ever! I've been taking the Syntrax Nectar flavors (and loving most of them) and my counselor was like why are you taking those? I told her and she flipped out! I still buy HNS from the center and she went all snotty on me and told me she was looking the otherway when I started taking vitamins that weren't MRC but I was required to buy their HNS. Which I still do...so know I'm like, do I fib in MFP because that's my food sheet she looks at, and put their HNS info in there or do I just endure her freak out everytime I go in. And then when I weighed she tried to blame my gain on the syntrax. "See I told you...we can't guarantee you a loss if your not using our product." I just wanted to scream at her....it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact I wasn't wearing my weigh in clothes...or the fact that I was weighing in in the afternoon after breakfast and lunch and six glasses of water...when my normal time is in the morning before all that? Absolutely nothing to do with that!!! I guess she could tell I was mad because we normally go back into a room to talk whenever I maintain or gain and yesterday I just made my next appointment and left. Then today I get a call from the centers Manager asking me how I was and if I needed anything from her.

Ugh!!! So of course last night not feeling good...couldn't really move cause I was hurting all over...(two mile walk on monday and Zumba) I turned to a chicken, mushroom, and pineapple thin crust pizza. Half a thin crust pizza...so I am looking at trying my hand at meta-quick for a couple of days if I don't get too much more sick. I am not allowing any carbs for the next couple of days and we'll see what my weight does.

Any suggestions on what to do about my MFP? I don't want to fib because that's cheating me...but I don't want to go through her freak outs anymore!

What to do??? What to do???

Cassie,
so sorry you had to go through that. I am brand new and haven't even started using the HNS's, but I plan on it and I also plan on finding a more cost efficient way of getting the supplements and I would hate for someone to get upset with me for that. It was nice of the manager to call you. I don't know what I would do about it though. I hope your next visit is better.

Jen,
I really need to get organized like you. You have such great ideas on how to do this. I have been trying to carry my food journal and supplement box in the purse I carry everyday and I am so uncomfortable. I moved to a larger purse of course, but I think getting a bag just for that is the best idea. Any other ideas and tips would be so great.

Rocki,
thank you for the welcome. I have enjoyed reading your posts. All of you are such an inspiration for me.

Cassie,
I'm new as well and still in pre-conditioning. It's good that you didn't say anything initally, but on your next vist, DEFINITELY let her know that her attitude was NOT appreciated. Most of the time, it's not what you say, but how you say it. She definitely could've communicated with you differently. I think she owes you an apology.

Also, I imagine her attitude was "stank" because technically, you're not sticking to THEIR plan 100% - even if you are still purchasing their HNSs.

It's challenging enough to do a weight-loss program without underlying issues, so to me, the most important thing is to get your relationship back on track so both of you have are in a positive frame of mind when you visit.

Hope this helps!

Hi Kuntree!
How's it going today? As for myself, on Day 2 of pre-conditioning and feeling pretty good! I am going to use the suggestion of a "weigh-in outfit" - I think that's a pretty good idea. I also carry my food journal back/forth to work, as well as a gallon of water. Seeing the water level go down throughout the day gives me a sense of accomplishment.

As far as organization tips, I offer the following:
1) ALWAYS grocery shop with a list & don't let yourself run out of anything before going to the grocery store.
2) Write down what you're going to eat BEFORE you eat it.
3) Prepare your lunch for the next day the night before & pack all your supplements, snacks, etc. for the day.
4) When preparing meals for your family, prepare your meal right alongside theirs.

A lot of being organized depends on your mental capacity to anticipate your own needs. Start "thinking ahead of yourself" if that makes sense.

I just made a yummy "discovery"...Mock Strawberry Fro Yo. 6 oz diet cherry 7up, 1/2 c cottage cheese (I used ricotta), a vanilla pudding HNS, 3/4 c strawberries...blended. It hit the spot (I miss ice cream). I'm going to try chocolate pudding with diet cream soda and ricotta next time. I've also been playing around their the "pumpkin pie" recipe and last night made it with 8 oz squash, 1 c. ricotta (or cottage cheese), 1 egg, 4 oz water, 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice, 1 Tbsp splenda, 1 tsp vanilla (I wanted to figure out how to do it without the protein powder)...it would be 2 servings of veggies, 2 servings of protien, so cut it in half and had 2 "meals". So you can have it for lunch with some fruit and I just think to myself "I'm eating pie for lunch".

Cassie-I have no advice. I track mine on paper (I found I would allow myself to cheat more when using MFP, not sure why) so I just write "clear" or "creamy" for my HNS, so even if I am not using one of their HNS's it doesn't come up. 95% of the time I am using MRC HNS, but I do have some other protein powder of similar nutrient content that I use on occasion. What I signed (I don't know if everyone's is the same) that you will take a multi vitamin (doesn't have to be theirs) and their HNS's. I only buy the HNS, anything else I take (I'm just taking a multi-, a b6/12 complex, and fish oil) I get at walmart or CVS. I've steadily lost 2-2.5 a week. My mom takes many of their supplments but hasn't lost at the same rate (I can't guarantee that she doesn't cheat). My counselor is great...we talk about wrong choices I may have made, but she also doesn't beret me if I make a choice that isn't on plan (like I had a protein bar for a snack). She may remind me "hey, did you remember you aren't supposed to do a replacement and a creamy in the same day?", but no anger issues:)

I am new here as well. Started pre-conditioning on 12/5, I have found this forum very helpful...amazing what a google search brings up.

I was wondering if anyone works rotating shiftwork? I alternate day/night 12 hours shifts and was hoping for some feedback on how that affects weight loss on the MRC diet. No one at my center mentioned timing of meals.

Cassie, My opinion is if you think the Sytrax is the exact same nutritional content as the HNSs from MRC, and you really want to use them, then just write HNS in your journal and move on. If the nutritional content including sodium is the same, it cant affect your loss. Lots of people have good results while using Syntrax. On the other hand, it might enourage you to make more substitutions and before you know it you might find yourself making ones that arent really equal and you could end up not seeing the results you want. It sure seems that those pepple who stick closely to the plan see the best results. Like Patzi who NEVER went off plan EVER. Can you imagine? I dont know how much she has lost, but I would put money on her not gaining it back. I have heard other people come to the realization that bars put their carbs over the top and they then stall. SO they have to stop or cut back on the bars.

You also mentioned a bunch of other variables such as time of day, water consumed and what you were wearing. I ALWAYS go in at the same time, wearing the same thing. Its too disappointing otherwise. Im barely losing as it is. (I am speaking from experience as one of those people who seems to rationalize too many substitutions.)

Just my thought....

Today I am now back down to where I was Dec. 23. So today I am telling myself IT IS FINALLY BEHIND ME. All remaining sweets are going in the trash tonight. I dont care what relative made them or who much they cost. We still have truffles and peppermint bark, cranbreey bread and two kinds of cookies.

All along I have been saying that the holidays could have been much worse, which is true. I'm very happy that I'm not going into January having gained wieght like most people. But I'm only 10 pounds from goal and I want to get there.

Starting the food journal today. On one side of the page writing PLANNED and on the other side ACTUAL.

camaswa-that's a great idea on how to do the food journal. I made my own journal similar to the MRC one but slightly different. When I hit maintenance I'm going to use a fitbook (maybe MFP with it). YOu are totally going to rock this last 10 lbs!

What I do is I have a 4 column weekly calendar on my fridge. In 3 of the columns I write out what we will eat during the week (some meals we all eat the same, some I make them something else). Then in the 4th column I write our family events (which dictate our schedule). Sometimes nights get switched , but that way I almost always have the food I need in the house, taken out of the freezer if needed, and it helps so much with my food planning, staying on track, and budgeting/grocery shopping. I did it before I started this, I've just gotten more refined. On my food journal I turn in I often write in pencil what I think I'm going to eat (especially if we have an event to go to or are going to eat out or something where I have less control or need extra planning), that way I can erase and write what I actually ate if different. Planning (and having lots of lean protein and veggies always stocked up) has been key for me. My favorite store to get chicken breasts is going out of business...so I've been stocking up on their chicken breasts....I probably have a few months worth in the freezer:)

Hey everyone! I haven't been on the board for a while due to Holidays and traveling and trying to get caught up at work, but I am back and I think I need to come here daily just to keep my focus on this plan. It's hard to stay OP all the time but many of your posts motivate me and give me great ideas. I love the Strawberry Frozen Yogurt recipe!!!! I also haven't been tracking my food because I dont like those sheets they give me at the office. I'm thinking I will just use a journal I have already and track my meals there. It's not as obvious and easier to carry with me. I tell them I track it mentally, but they keep on me. I really am terrible at writing stuff down. I've lost 11 lbs in the first 3 weeks and setting a small goal of 15lbs by 4wks. My more long-term goal for the month of January is to track my meals in a journal.;)

Darcy, I made my own tracking sheets in excel. The ones they gave me were not tailored to my plan and were crazy small. My sheets have really helped me eat "cleaner". I track exercise, weight and food on mine. Sounds like you're doing great.

Hello all :)

Congrats to Jen...you continue to be such an inspiration girl!!!!

Had my WI today and was down another pound...which considering my past week with New Years parties, etc...I was quite pleased! I also will be starting Stabilization on Monday...so pretty excited about that...and very ready.

While I think it is a challenge to lose weight, I am a bit nervous about these next steps. I have a feeling that learning to keep it off will be a challenge, too. Glad to have this forum!

Keep up the great work ladies...and stay focused! It IS worth it!

Hello Ladies,

Do any of you happen to have the directions on how to make the MRC strawberry-banana gelatin (Jello)? I have two packages left, but threw the box away and apparently that's where the directions were printed. I know it's a few oz of hot and cold water, but I can't remember exactly. Anyone know?

Welcome Amy and good luck. Look forward to hearing about your success.

Leo, I really like your tips. I work full time and have very active kids. In all sports and church events, so we do spend a lot of evenings away from home. Also, my husband works 2-10 in the evenings, so I am like a single mom. Organization is not usually in my vocabulary. We manage to get where we need to get and have what we need to have, but it's not without some fumbling. I am writing everyone's tips down so I can use them in my world. You all impress me so much. I don't know "yet" how you all do it, but I will. I can't shop without a list. I didn't think to write down what I eat BEFORE I eat, I usually write it down after I've eaten. I like that. I also prepare my food separately from my kids food and I sort of resent that. Is that terrible? Very good advice, thanks.

I go Friday for my first class and to get my menu's and protein drinks. I am excited about getting started. I have done very well during the pre-conditioning, or at least I think I have. I don't have any problem drinking the water, but I'm sure for someone who isn't used to it, it's a challenge. You're doing great!!!

Cassie -I am so sorry you had a bad experience yesterday. The counselor could and should have handled it differently. I would ask to speak with a different counselor next time.

kuntreegirl -Like Chickadee, I was tracking my food on an excel spreadsheet. I recently switched to My Fitness Pal because when you go to maintenance, you start counting calories so I figured I better start getting in that mode ahead of time. I did find that even though I wasn't carrying a food journal around with me, I had no problem remembering what I ate when it came time to put it in the computer. Also, I organize my drinks and supplements for the week. I have very well worn baggies that I've been using from the get go. Like I said, this may seem like overkill to some, but it works for me. They contain my HNS for the day, the supplements I take divided into breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a separate pill box for my blood pressure med. I just pick up that days baggie each morning and by the end of the day, if it's empty, yay me! LOL I'm attaching a picture of one as an example. I only have to get my baggies in order once a week and it makes my life much easier. :)

AmyKaylene - :welcome2: I haven't done shiftwork for years, but, with the timing of meals, I would ignore what the clock says. If you wake up at 3 or 4 in the afternoon, that's when your day begins. I would time my meals from there as if that were 7 or 8 in the morning. As long as you get in all your food, HNS, water, & supplements in before going to sleep, and get enough sleep, you should be ok. Good luck!

camaswa -I agree with you about the bars. They can totally backfire, good as they taste. It will even cause you to become constipated. There's a lovely thought. ;)

Tami - I am sooooo excited for you!!!!! You go, girl!!!! You are going to rock maintenance!!!!

eb102106 -If I remember correctly, it's 4 oz. hot water, mix, and then 4 oz. cold water, then chill. :)

Had a good visit at the cardiologist yesterday. He took me off my last pregnancy/post-pregnancy blood pressure med. Woohoo!! Back to my one BP pill a day I was on before the pregnancy. He wants me to track my BP for 2 weeks and send in the results. If my body responds well, he'll leave me off it. :D

Jen, thanks for the picture. I can see how you stay organized. I am still learning all the different supplements and I can't hardly tell the difference between the corti-trim and the phentatrim, so I have to keep them separate. I bought a pill box for the week and I keep a days supply in a separate little box with me all the time just in case. I need to take the advise of you and some of the others here and just make me bag for MRC and have it with me all the time. I am eager to find out about the menus, which one I'll be on, what the drinks are like, and just everything. I don't really feel like I've started the real program yet. The pre-conditioning is good I'm sure, but I am so ready to see some weight loss. To feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

How do you or any of you handle traveling? I have read a few posts about it from the holidays, but I am really nervous about it. My husband and I are taking our boys out of town next weekend and we will be sightseeing and doing something almost every minute of the day. Not sure how I will handle it. We also have scheduled in two fabulous restaurants that we have wanted to go to. Any suggestions? I have to say I know I will want to eat at these particular places. But, it's not the normal for us to go out of town often. I guess I will give myself a break and do the best I can.

I really like all your tips and suggestions. It is giving me so many ideas of how to structure this and make it work in my busy life. Thanks to everyone.

Kuntregirl. Some travel ideas: Keep HNSs in your purse and pour into bottled water. Add a creamy to coffee if you have stopped somewhere like a Starbucks Keep a couple bars FOR EMERGENCiEs only. At the special restaurants, try to have fish and veggies. Beg for a bite of someone else's meal if you really want to experience an item that you know would do damage. Above all. Don't get starved. Extra protein if needed, lots of water. Also don't get exhausted. And don't expect perfection. Have fun!

TL,
When you did take the phentatrim, did you notice a difference in yourself at all? Did you notice you didn't get hungry, or anything? I do know I have more energy, but it's not a nervous energy, I just don't get sleepy in the afternoon like I usually do. Of course that could be from not eating the carbs either. LOL

Sorry it took me so long to respond. We had a bit of a crisis at work, and I'm now taking over a dept chair's responsibilities at a building in addition to my job at the central office...so it's been a little hectic since I went back to work on Monday, lol.

Anyway, I did notice that I wasn't quite as hungry, and I felt it did give me more energy--but like you said, it wasn't nervous energy. It didn't affect my sleeping habits, either, as I was able to go to bed and fall asleep at my usual time with no problems.

I used it more toward the end of my weight loss partially because of my stall on weight loss, but also because I didn't want to be on a bunch of supplements already and then have no "extra" tools available to me when I hit plateaus or stalls. Does that make sense? Basically, I just didn't want to use all my tools in my toolbox from the get-go because I was worried that then I'd have nothing to help when I really hit a rough patch.

KG,
It's not terrible that you resent having to do "double work" in the kitchen! It's hard to put together a meal for kids who can have ANYTHING they want & at the same time, making a meal for yourself. Last night, my grandson had pizza & I had grilled flank steak & grilled asparagus. I wanted a bite of that pizza SO BAD! LOL! Then, my daughter came home later with chinese food! My willpower was tested, but you know what, I resisted and it FELT GOOD. I just put it in my head that I've been eating all this "good" food for years and while I enjoyed eating it at the time, it just packed on the poundage because of my poor choices. I'm going to sacrifice these next six to nine months and one day, I'll be able to enjoy my favorites again, smarter & healthier.

I also go to Food Class on Friday and am excited to see what plan I'll be placed on and learn more about the diet overall. I've also planned my response for if they try to pressure me into purchasing additional supplements, but my counselor doesn't seem like she's trying to push them. (Then again, I've only met with her twice so far).

Cassie-We just got called from Dave's team and we are going down on Feb 3 to do our debt free scream in the lobby!! So pumped. So, so, so pumped. I'll probably cry (and hopefully be in the 150's:))

My weight is stalled this week, which I expected. I always do before that TOM...and my counselor said she noticed being even more sensitive to those hormonal changes as you lose weight (or maybe I just notice it more). So expecting next week to be better (next 3 weeks until "that week" comes again, then another 3 of losing and then I should be at goal...)

TL, wow, it sounds like you have your hands more than full at work. Please don't worry about not getting back any sooner. I was very worried about all of the supplements bothering me in some way, but it's been just the opposite. I feel great and energized. I didn't want to be jumpy or jittery and so far I haven't been. I am sure I am feeling better just because of eating better as well, so I'm not giving the supplements all the credit. I can't wait until I can say that I have reached a plateau or that I'm stalling because that means that I HAVE been losing. Thanks again.

Leo, thanks for telling me that I'm not terrible. I don't resent my children, but it's not easy to make something so tasty for them and know that I will have brocoli instead of potatoes. I am so impressed with your willpower. You have got to be so proud of yourself. Now are you going to talk to your daughter about bringing that type of food around or are you OK with it? I have talked to my husband and sons and explained to them that I won't be buying certain foods that I bought before and that I need them to be understanding. They were all great about it and they all want me to be healthy, but I know there will come a time when they complain and I'll have to deal with that then. Not my husband, but my boys. They are teenagers. I tell myself the same thing, that I have had years and years of eating anything and everything that I want and now to enjoy the next chapter to it's fullest, I need to make wiser choices for myself and I will be around for a lot longer. I am very eager to find out which plan you're going to be on. I go at 9 in the morning. I am not looking forward to the weigh in because I know I will have already eaten breakfast and drank a lot of water. Good luck to you.

Camaswa, thank you for these ideas. I will absolutely do as you say and keep those drinks with me at all times. I will get them tomorrow. Yes, I will have to make very wise choices while we are at the restaurants. I can do it and if I enjoy something a little extra I won't beat myself up for it. I will just make sure to stick on plan all the rest of the time. I do NOT want to get too hungry while we are out sightseeing, that could be terrible for my plan. Thanks again.

Hey gang!

First, I want to thank Jen for reaching out to me and 2nd, I want to apologize for my absence. November was a crazy month, being gone for 2 weeks for my mom's foot surgery and got back into town on Thanksgiving then spent a week trying to recoop and had to go to Orlando for a business meeting the following week. I also started a part time job at Hobby Lobby - so working 7am-4pm at my full time job and then going to work from 4:30pm-Close (which is 8pm but after cleanup, some nights I didn't get out of there until after 9pm). Needless to say, my weight loss came to a screeching halt!

I finally got the travel weight off and slowly lost a couple more pounds and then after Christmas, I lost 4.5lbs which allowed me to sign the 110lb board! I was shocked! I couldn't believe I had lost that much. But then I went for my WI that Friday and gained 1.5lbs back and this Tuesday gained 2 more pounds! UGH! But I have also been sick. Had bronchitis last week and still feel like I have a sinus infection. Hoping for a good WI tomorrow.

Oh, and another thing that has been keeping me a little busy.. I met someone! I've known him since high school, lost track of him through the years but we met back up earlier this year when we went to Joplin to help after the tornado. But we've really started to spend a lot of time together and it feels good! Haven't really had these kind of feelings in a few years.

Anyway - it's time for me to get back on track! I have set my goal to 185lbs.. which means I have a little over 30 pounds to lose!

I know I have missed a lot and I'm not even going to try to play catch up! But it feels good to be back! I've really missed all of you!

JenB- Way to go!

So excited to hear everyone's statuses... I'm doing okay and signed the 50 lb board today! I'm a little discouraged as my weight loss has slowed to 2.5 lbs a week, but I'm still going in the right direction. I'm thinking of re-signing for another 17 weeks to help reach my goal (I would like to lose another 20 or 30 lbs)... has anyone ever re-signed?

Question for all you knowledgeable people: I asked my counselor about Corti-Trim today. She said for it to be effective you need to take 6 pills a day. With my lapband, 6 pills is just not an option. Do those of you who like it take that much? Are there store brands out there that work as well? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks,

Thanks to all for the jello directions!

nwcgina - Congrats on being debt free! You go Gazelle! :woohoo: It must feel so good. I almost cried reading your post. My husband and I took the classes and are trying to work the plan too. Adding MRC to the mix was a little tricky, but something I needed to do.

nwcgina

eb-I debated waiting to start MRC until we were debt free...obviously the cost set us back slightly & I will be needing almost a whole new wardrobe by thte time I'm done, but we decided my health and self-esteem were worth it...and being intense on both was so good. Keep at it...I had to add up our total debt and it was 85K paid off in 8.5 years, 65K over the past 4. Like the weight, it would be overwhelming to see it all at once at the beginning, we took it one debt at a time. And now I'm looking back on my weight loss...I've lost 20 recently, but have lost 55+ since my high in 2008, and may be over 70 by the time I'm done.

rachels77 -Congratulations on signing the 50 pound board! That's something to be proud of. I did re-sign with MRC. I originally signed up on 02/23/11. I didn't have to re-sign until September because I always took advantage of the holiday specials (lose weight over the holidays, get extra weeks for free). I think I'm good through April now and I will hit my goal way before then. :)

Chickadee -I do take the 6 Corti-Trim a day. I don't know of an equivalent though. Hopefully someone else may know.

eb102106 & nwcgina - I applaud you both with wanting to become debt free. I love Dave Ramsey (unfortuantely he's not on the radio in our area) and Clark Howard. Clark inspired my husband & I to live debt free with the exception of our mortgage. We were debt free for about 3 years and then my hubby ran into some medical issues last year. We are in a little debt at the moment, but expect to be out of it by the end of March. :) While MRC may be an added cost, you also need to factor in the money you save on not buying junk food and medical costs for being overweight. The added cost may not be as much as you think. ;)

I'm thinking of you this a.m. as I know you'll be going to the center to get your plan. I was scheduled to go in at 5:30, but I'm going at 11:30. :carrot: Hopefully I'll "see" you around today so we can share our plans.
I NEVER thought you resented your children - just the fact that you had to prepare separate meals. I TOTALLY understand. It will get better with time & your children will become more understanding - especially if they know that what you're doing now will help ensure you'll be around for years to come for family vacations, college graduations, grandchildren, etc.

Sometime over the weekend, I'll talk to my daughter about bringing the junk food into the house. The other day she told me, "I'm going to be your biggest support 'cuz I want you to be healthier and be around for a long time." (Bought tears to my eyes.) So, I'll share my plan with her this weekend, then go through the cabinets & remove all junk food. I don't mind if it's in the house, and as a matter of fact, I have a dorm-size fridge she can put in her bedroom (if necessary). Also, I'm more than willing to purchase some type of plastic container for her and my grandson's "goodies."

I gained 2 pounds during the holiday when I weighed in on Tuesday. I had a maintenance weigh in today and took off 2 1/2 pounds putting me 5 1/2 pounds under goal..

I did the following to get the weight off.. I went back to the green menu and watched the carbs.. Did not eat any starchy carbs that put weight on me like carrots, onions, sweet potatoes, grains, while trying to lose the weight and did not have my daily afternoon baked oatmeal and a snack of oatmeal cookie .. So, all in all, it worked, so I am happy. When I ate out last night had baked haddock dry, steamed veggies no butter and salad with my own Diet Direct dressing and it did not bother the weight. Did not have my glass of wine that I do have on maintenance when eating out. Figure, in due time...

This week back to maintenance and will start experimenting again to see what I can eat without gaining weight as I was doing before..

Wishing everyone a great day and a great weigh in.

Hey Chickadee! I was taking 6 pills a day but just couldn't afford to do that anymore. So I dropped it to 1 at breakfast and 1 at lunch. Every now and then, I will up it to 2 at breakfast. I'm still losing!

My first WI after the holidays. Down 1.5! That's no record, but I'll take it. I fluxuated a lot between Christmas and now but feel really proud that I ended down. The counselor and I were talking about this being how maintenance will be: one meal or one day may be off program but then you get back on. Over and over. Life isn't a straight line, it bends and curves. It's how you choose to handle those deviations that matters. Can it be that after a lifetime of losing and regaining I am actually realizing what it takes to keep it off? Patzi, what would you say? That seems to be exactly what you do.

YAY!!! with everything going on w/ family, holidays, vacation, etc. i am down a pound!!! i felt like i had gained about 5 lbs on some days! after yrs of gaining and losing and gaining over the years w/ other plans, this MRC plan, i got it down! By George i Got it!!! if Life gets in your way and you go off Plan, then get right back on board. Some things are out of our control but i have learned that when i don't have foods on plan available, to eat smaller portions, get the protein and veggies in and always have the Water and HNSs available. i always keep a ziplock of HNS powder in my pocketbook to add to water (and carry it in my car w/ bottles of water) no excuses - be prepared. i automatically remove half of the bun or don't eat it at all when i'm out or eating somewhere else. open face sandwiches rock!
i did get up earlier and got two walks in this week so that made me feel a lot better!

Advice to the newbies... just remember MRC consultants are sales people and if you feel like they are pushing the supplements on you, they really are! alot of people including myself have lost successfully without any supplements (pills). my doctor told me if i took all the supplements, i may lose faster but would regain when i went off of them. plus be broke!! i use my own protein powder (Syntrax Choc. Truffle and Roadside Lemonade and Protidiet Pink Lemonade - large container) - from Diet Direct ... i just avoid them when they start asking if i need HNSs and say, nope i have what i need, thank you. i've never told them i order online. in the beginning i bought a couple boxes from them (soups, choc. pudding) not a bad price and for those things, same price as Diet Direct if you get 5 for $55.

This diet works!!! the best advice is on this forum...the recipes are on the forum too and very helpful so you dont get bored.

Good luck everyone and happy friday!

Woo hoo!!!! that's fantastic!!! this is so true - a few days ago, i was like OMG, i am gaining everything back that i lost and was like here we go again. immediately did Medi quick and got right back on plan. fixing meals for my MIL but i was like, she can just eat what i eat only i gave her more of everything. found out she doesn't like collard greens and was trying to feed to the dogs...they turned their noses up at her! ha
i know with other plans if i gained it is not easy to lose so quickly and w/ this plan it is. now i'm ready to lose the rest and i'm thinking i'll lose more - i kind of like the compliments :-)

Heck YEA!!!! NWCGina that is soooo fabulous!!! I can't wait to do that. :carrot:

After my rant on Tuesday and subsequent binging on pizza...I got right back on track and started exercising like crazy. 28 minutes on the elliptical at work on wednesday, 20 minutes of zumba on thursday, and tonight is another grueling heckish 28 minutes of elliptical. My councelor liked that I only did one syntrax nectar and the rest HNS, and was super proud that after such a big derailment I got right back up and started working hard again. We had a better session. Then it was time to weigh. According to the center I lost three and a half pounds, but since I knew that my weight was going to be high because I changed the time of weigh in and the clothing I didn't even take it as real. So I really lost two pounds. YAY ME! And I guess the ellipitical is a good workout...even if it's grueling.

Glad to hear of all the weight loss...and it's good to see you back BigDog...glad your MIL is starting to eat your food!!

Have a great weekend y'all!!!

Well, I went to Food Class, stepped on the scale and lost 2.5 lbs. YAY ME! :carrot:
When I went last Friday for WI & measurements, I actually was up 2 lbs., (to 260) but I attributed it to time of day and didn't stress about it. Today, I'm at 256, so I'm wondering can I REALLY count the additional 2 lbs.? Whatever the case, I am TOTALLY excited/motivated!

I'm on the "Meta-Slim Plus" plan. If this is what all meal plans say, please let me know how I can separate it out from the others. It's on a yellow sheet of paper.

The center Manager went through the class and there was NO HIGH PRESSURE SALES TACTICS. The only things she STRONGLY recommended outside the HNSs were a multi-vitamin & the Krill Oil (which I purchased both).

I'm going to stick to the "pre-condition" menu until Sunday, then I'll start fresh with the new plan.

I was REALLY PLEASED to see how they had a list of popular restaurants as well as tips for ordering when eating out. Also, if I know I'm going to eat out and can get the restaurant menu in advance, my counselor will go through the menu for me and let me know what's "safe."

This is me right now...........:carrot::jig::cb::cp::dance::dancer: :cheer2::broc:

Leo,
Your daughter sounds like a sweetheart. I'm sure she will support you. So nice.

I read your most recent post since you got back from the center. Way to go on the weight loss. You should be so proud of yourself. That is a great way to start your journey.

I went to the center today and I am also on the "meta-slim plus, level 2". The menu is just on a white piece of paper, but I wonder if they made copies. If anyone knows I would appreciate the information. She said that I would start on level 2 then move from there. Move to where I don't know yet, but this plan has me drinking 4-5 hns's a day. I am also going to start on Sunday. I need to get organized and do some more shopping. I was very unhappy at the WI because I have gained 3 lbs. It is TOM and my counselor said that was perfectly normal. I guess I should be glad it wasn't more. I am trying not to get discouraged, but it's a little hard. I just need to see a loss in that number and I think that would help so much. I haven't been perfect with the eating, but I have been close, so I'm a bit surprised. Not to mention all the supplements that I'm taking. I did expect to see a loss this week. But nature had it's own plan I guess. LOL I'm not upset or giving up by any means, just disappointed.

Leo,
Your daughter sounds like a sweetheart.

I don't know how we can determine if we are on the same plan. There was no mention of levels, but I'll ask my counselor when I see her on Tuesday. I'm required to have 3 HNs's a day, plus 3 additional to be used as mid-morning, mid-afternoon or an evening snack.

What HNS's did you buy? Did you learn about the "ketone strips?"
What days are you planning to weigh-in?

Hi! I just joined MRC last night! I am so excited!! I had been thinking about joining MRC for several months but when I'd google them I'd read some really bad reviews so I was very hesistant about joining them, but then I found these threads and I feel much better about joining them. I do have some questions if anyone can help.. I didn't have the hormone testing done, well, done yet.. Can you still use the Corti-trim, MSM or the UC-II - I am unsure what they are I had just read about them helping belly fat and tightening of baggy skin. And by the time I loose all the weight I have to lose I will probably have a lot of hanging skin.

Thanks!!

Hi Matea & Welcome!
I'm new as well and will start my plan on Sunday.
Sorry, I can't answer your questions, but I'm sure someone will.
Once you go to "Food Class" you'll learn EVERYTHING about all of the supplements. In the meantime, you could always call the center directly & ask the staff there. :smug:

Candi--
You look AMAZING! Congratulations on the 110lbs! I'm also happy that, although you are super-busy, you have been able to find some romance, too! How exciting!

You are such an inspiration! We understand if you are too busy to post or read very often, but do make sure you give us updates!

I re-enrolled a couple of times. You can re-enroll for either 10 or 17 weeks. I usually did 10 weeks at a time when I re-enrolled. Also, ask your center often about whether they're going to be running any specials anytime soon (they may even be running a new year's one now). I usually tried to re-enroll when they were running a special so I could get my additional weeks at a discount.

I hear you about feeling like your losses have slowed. Mine slowed down a lot for a while after I hit the 50lb mark (from about 2.5-3lbs a week to 1-1.5lbs a week). Stick with it, though, if you can. Eventually, my losses picked back up again.

Hey Chickadee! I was taking 6 pills a day but just couldn't afford to do that anymore. So I dropped it to 1 at breakfast and 1 at lunch. Every now and then, I will up it to 2 at breakfast. I'm still losing!

Wow, you look incredible!!! we've missed you on the boards. how's it going? love the new profile pic!!

Yes,the cort-trim helps release the fat from your body. Also,MRC 6 helps a lot. Ask the consultant any questions you have and they should help. That is what they are for is to help you though this change in your life. I have been with them since june 2010,and I still call and see them 2 times a week for help. I weigh in 2 times a week.

been reading on these posts about disappointing weigh ins and after going through that some weeks, just wanted to say...try to drink a very minimum amount of water on weigh in day and always keep the lightest shorts/tshirt or whatever in your car so you don't have to worry about a heavy clothes weigh in. i'd run into the center, change into my light clothes and then weigh. nothing is more disappointing when you are on plan, expect a good weigh in and the water you had before or heavy clothes push those numbers up on the scale! i would hate the lectures too! like what can we do to help you, blah blah blah when i knew i lost weight but becuz of water or clothes looked like i gained. alot of times i would want to tell them, don't write that down, i'll be back in a couple days to get a true reading!!! :-) and i chose my weigh in clothes carefully too! i tried on different outfits to see if they caused a gain...i was determined to get a good number :encore:

Glad to see so many other new people...I went in for my first month measurements and was down 19.5" and 13 lbs!! Best success I have had on a diet! To help out with the weight loss and to torture myself, I am training to run a stair race in Feb. 41 flights of stairs to the top, around 850 steps...I can run that many now but it takes 40 minutes :) I just got a new inhaler from the doctor for exercise which is such a help with the gasping...

So if you want to buy your own HNS it is the whey protein powder?

Thanks everyone!!

Hello all!! I've beenmissing in action for a while. I didn't fall off the wagon just been busy. So i go in for a weigh in on 12/30 and the scaled read 219.6 very heartbreaking considering I completely stayed on plan. Today I go for a weigh in and the scale read 208.8,wow what a big difference. I have been busting butt with increased water intake, daily exercise and eating OP. I also took the advice of you guys concerning weigh in clothes and water intake before weigh ins.I'm content with the loss, but do get a little discouraged when my scale at home shows something so different from the centers scale ( i always weigh first thing in the morning after my first potty break). Well with that said I am continuing on this journey with the help and support of you guys and the forum. Thanks,Michelle

My scale is always different than the center. I have two different scales and
they are both under what the center reads... Glad you lost the weight.. Make sure you keep a daily journal, and bring to center, as if you did gain weigh and stayed OP, have the center go thru journal and find out why.. They sometimes can see something that we miss. But, congrats on the weight loss and inch loss

AmyKayLene..Congrats on weight loss and on inches... .

I wear same clothes on weigh in and take a different set to change into at work.. I wear a pair of the lightest leggings I could find, and a tee on top. If cold weather, still wear the same and have a cardigan on and take it off when I weigh in,Wishing everyone a great weigh in and hang in there ladies, it is most worth it.. I feel so much pressure off of myself losing weight I gained during the holidays. The green menu has become my backup for maintenance.

Y'all have a great day.

I am new to this site. I have been going to MRC since November. This was defintely the best choice that I could have made for myself. I am down nearly 29 pounds, and 29" since starting this program. IT defintely works.

We have been on vacation and of course survived the holidays while I have been OP. I drink more water than I ever thought would have felt possible and feel great, without afternoon hunger.

I have been reading various threads here over the last few weeks and have found great encouragement in everyone's success. :) And their hints and ideas have been wonderful as well.

Survived the last Christmas today. I had brought foods that were OP, but by the time I went through the fruit was gone:( And i had to cut more cheese (luckily I was smart enough to have a cooler with extra cheese and veggies just in case that happened, the extra fruit got left on the counter at home). It was filled with drama so normally I'm tempted to dive into the cake. Luckily none of the sweets looked that great so I didn't give in. Made a yummy "pizza" once I got home with a tortilla, chicken, wing sauce (I get a kind that is like tabasco), and green peppers. I really wanted to just drive through some where, but the drive thru options that I can eat are few and just not appetizing.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Ready to get off these last 15...2 months, that's my goal.

Hi All,

I had my first appointment with MRC on Thursday. I go back on Tuesday for the Program Instruction and to get my menu.

I don't know why but I am scared...I guess because I have failed at weight loss so many times since 2007. My husband even said last night...how long is this going to last 2 or 3 weeks.

We want to have a 2nd child but I have been told by my doctors that it would be dangerous to get pregnant since I am on cholesterol medicine and with the first pregnancy, I had a lot of blood pressure problems so they told me then that I need to lose weight before considering another.

My son was born in 2009, via C-section, I could not breastfood due to some complications with his birth and I never lost any more weight after leaving the hospital and the initial baby being born weight.

I see all of these other women around me have children and look just like they did before pregnancy within 3 months of having the child....makes me really unhappy about myself and beat myself up a lot.

I am hoping that this program makes a difference.

I weighed on Friday morning at home....234.6...Saturday morning 232.2...Sunday morning 232.4. So, I am already going through the disappointment today bc I showed a gain on the scale.

Hi RN-
Welcome. First off, this has worked for me...and nothing has before. I usually can't stick to something or for some reason it just doesn't work. This has. This has clicked. And second, I was like you in that I was so frustrated that the weight didn't come off easily after having babies (gaining 50 lbs the first, working hard but only getting 25 off before #2, then gaining the 25 again). I always get pretty cynical when expecting moms say how quickly they are going to lose. I even breastfed and only lost about 10 from that in the first year.

then I tried this and it's working. I've been stalled for about a week...but that's the first time in 2 months!

And you can't see .2 lbs as a "gain". If that much sends you into a downward tail spin I'd really recommend not weighing everyday. Our weight fluctuates for 1000000 reasons, so those small fluctuations are normal. You are looking for the downward trend over the long haul. If you can grasp that, then you may be okay weighing everyday (this is where I have come to, I'm up a lb today, and I know its due to hormones from TTOM and not getting enough water yesterday...so it doesn't make me disappointed, makes me want to grab my water so when the hormones are gone, the scale will be back on track).

HI RN
I am one also who can say that this program definitely works where others haven't for me. I was very concerned about taking a vacation in early December after starting this program in the second week of November. It was one that I was able to follow and feel very confident in while traveling.

I have put systems into place that others mention here -- bagging up a day's worth of HNS and having these ready to grab and go, having a bag that stays ready at all times with all my supplements and weigh in clothes so I have no excuse for that day, and filling it with six bottles of water (so I know I get 12 servings of water each day). Having this ready when I go to bed each night, makes me feel very confident that I was be as successful the next day as I was that day.

The scales can be a dangerous yet helpful tool but like others have said -- sometimes it is nice to take a break from them for a day and be surprised on the scale rather than intimidated by it.

Take each day one at a time and you will be successful.

I travel quite often due to business and I have the essentials like HNS, water, etc with me.. I also order very simple meals when out eating. So please don't worry ..

Breakfast.. Egg white omelet or egg beater omelet , and a beverage. I am on maintenance now, so order coffee, but what ever your program allows. Some programs you may have fruit in morning and a slice of wheat toast.

Lunch.. Lean meat without bun, or I usually get a salad, ask for a piece of grilled chicken on it or grilled fish, and I have my own Wishbone Spritzer dressing on me or Diet Direct dressing in packages.. Usually water with HNS added to it.. If their is fruit, will ask for some plain fruit.

Supper.. Always order chicken or fish, as I don't eat red meat of any kind,
a veggie steamed with no salt and butter and a side salad..

Many times I call restaurant before I go there and ask to speak to manager and tell them I am on special diet regimen and they have always been helpful One time at an Italian restaurant there was nothing there on program at all, so called over the owner and asked him if he could take some shrimp from the appetizer list and saute in very little oil some zucchini that was on their menu and a side salad and it was done. Everyone thought I was crazy, but that did not matter to me.

So,please don't fear going away, as it takes the fun away from it. I stayed OP all the time I was traveling. If you have a problem, make the best choices you can make under the circumstances.

Welcome to the newbies and you have a great forum here. I would not have made it without their support.

I tried this drink the other day and I will say it was really good...

I made a cold drink of the diet cappuccino cocoa drink.. Added some nutmeg, lots of ice, some soy milk, and some Walden Farms marshmallow whip.

Consultant said they made that at one of their meetings and it was good.

eb-I debated waiting to start MRC until we were debt free...obviously the cost set us back slightly & I will be needing almost a whole new wardrobe by thte time I'm done, but we decided my health and self-esteem were worth it...and being intense on both was so good. Keep at it...I had to add up our total debt and it was 85K paid off in 8.5 years, 65K over the past 4. Like the weight, it would be overwhelming to see it all at once at the beginning, we took it one debt at a time. And now I'm looking back on my weight loss...I've lost 20 recently, but have lost 55+ since my high in 2008, and may be over 70 by the time I'm done.

nwcgina - This is so encouraging. It is hard to look at the whole amount...debt and weight...and then get discouraged and want to give up. It's great to know there is light at the end of the tunnel for both situations. We debated for several months about me rejoining MRC, but knew it was best. We decided to just figure out how to make it work and go for it.

eb102106 & nwcgina - I applaud you both with wanting to become debt free. The added cost may not be as much as you think. ;)

JenB - I completely agree. We used to eat out...a lot...and since starting MRC we have saved tons of money by just making more meals at home.

Good luck to all the newbies...you'll find lots of support around here!

I feel like I've been stuck for 2 weeks...but looking back it's only been less than a week, with lots of daily fluctuations, but overall I'm down about 2 from last week and about 5 over the past 2 weeks. Funny how we can easily get bad perceptions about how we are actually doing. I was having a replacement bar almost daily as I was hungry, so i'm sure that and my inconsistent water is the reason for the fluctuations. I had been so good for 2 months about 80-100 oz per day, and the past week I had a few days to struggle to get 60. Just strange.

But today is a new day and I'm recommitted (and have the replacement bars hiding in the basement:)) I bought a new pilates DVD yesterday...it seems I do better hunger wise if I keep the intensity of the exercise low. This week's plan is pilates Mon & Wed, light strength days Tues & Thurs, and a walk or walk/run on Saturday. Can't wait to add more back in and hit the gym hard (its my stress relief and my "me" time), but now it just seems to set me back if I do much more.

RN,
You sound so much like me, it's scary. I had my first child in 2009, severe pre-eclampsia, emergency c-section, massive amounts of blood pressure pills upon discharge so no breastfeeding for me, and I did not lose any baby weight after giving birth except for the weight of my munchkin. I've been there and I know what you are going through.

My weight the morning of her birth was 220. I've been at this since February 2011. I'm now down 75 pounds with 5 more to go. If you stick with the program, don't stress over it, and take it as a lifestyle change, things will change for you and you will feel so much happier. Hang in there and visit us often for support. I couldn't have done it without this forum. Good luck on your journey!

Go Broncos :woohoo: I watched the game with my son yesterday - he is a huge fan and was jumping around like a fool when they scored the last TD (he's 24!) Fortunately I was able to leave all the beer drinking to him yesterday......now Saturday was a different story - I had a major binge day (wine, chips, p-nut butter). I swear I think going to the grocery store sets me off on a binge!

TOM is coming up for me too! Man, I'm gonna be so bummed if the scale goes up, but I know it'll be water weight (more than likely). Also, I CRAVE EVERYTHING then. I just wanna eat & eat & eat & eat some more, so I'm hoping the HNS's will help with that.

Hi Leo.
One reason I didn't beat myself up more for the weight gain is because I know how much I can carry during TOM, so no need to be ugly to myself. You do the same and give yourself a little break if you see any rise in weight. TOM has never been good to me. LOL

I don't know either, but on my paper is actually says "META-SLIM PLUS Level 2". My plan also requires me to drink 3 HNS's a day, plus 3 additional for snacks. I bought mixed fruit (pretty tasty), grape (not too good), and kiwi-melon (I haven't tried yet). I bought 5 boxes for $55 and they didn't have a lot in stock to choose from. I didn't buy any "creamy's" yet. There is so much to learn and I am a little overwhelmed.

What about you? What flavors did you buy and which do you like best? I read the package and it says to mix with very little water, but I am mixing with quite a bit. I think they would be too sweet if I mixed like it says on the box.

My counselor didn't mention the ketone strips. Did you get some? I know from when I was pregnant they didn't like it when I had ketone's in my urine. Is this the same thing? I lost quite a bit of weight during my second pregnancy (long story, stress), and the dr would get on to me because of it. What exactly are the strips used for?

I am going to weigh in on Friday this week only. I just started to plan yesterday, so I think I'll be happier if I don't weigh in until 5 days. Hopefully I'll see a weight loss then. I'm afraid if I go in Tues or so there wouldn't have been enough time for me to lose anything. How about you....which day will you weigh in and will you go more than once?

So good to hear from you. I get sort of lost on the weekends, being so busy with my family I miss reading the posts on here.

I'm looking for the yellow, blue, and green Metaslim for women menus. I'm looking to lose about 25-30 lbs. If anyone has them, please message me and let me know (the site won't let me post my email address). Thanks and good luck with the weight loss, everyone!

Hey KG!
You are SO RIGHT about TOM! I will cut myself some slack knowing TOM will go away soon.

On my plan, it says, "Meta-Slim Plus" so I'm thinking our plans may be SLIGHTLY different. My plan also requires 3 HNSs per day, plus 3 HNSs as "optional." I did a comparison between pre-conditioning & the actual program menus and found all the foods exactly the same - the only exceptions are: 1) certain proteins I can have 2x a week only; 2) fruit at lunch only.

I bought the Wildberry Passion (haven't tried yet), Kiwi Melon (tastes like green apple); Peach Mango (haven't tried yet); Cranberry Grape (haven't tried yet); Mixed Fruit (haven't tried yet). I didn't buy any creamies, but I'm thinking I'll try the chocolate or vanilla since I do like something sweet after lunch or dinner.

I also agree with you about waiting a couple days to WI since TOM is in town. I was going to go tomorrow, but I'm thinking I may wait until Friday as well BUT my center has free samples on Tuesday so that's also a good opportunity to try an HNS before I buy! Decisions, decisions!

It was explained the ketone strips are used to determine whether or not your body is in fat-burning mode (ketosis). If you're not in ketosis, they can modify your plan and/or introduce supplements.

Yes, there is a lot of info to learn, but just take your time, work through it, keep plugging along & before you know it, WAH LAH - you'll be an organized, lean, mean, fat-burning machine! :)

Can anyone tell me about the Phentra Trim? I have the MRC6 but really need something to get me going. It is quite expensive so I don't want to buy it if it is not going to work. Thanks.

Hi molglo,
My center offers Phentratrim Trial (30 days supply) for $39 or for 90 days
($79). The info I have from the center says, "helps increase metabolism, suppress appetite, increase physical performance, frees up fat stores during exercise, builds lean muscle, decreases food cravings."

I am so glad I'm in the office alone right now because you really made me laugh out loud with the "organized, lean, mean, fat-burning machine". It's so sad that the organization part of it may be the hardest part for me. But I am determined to get it together.

I guess during pregnancy ketosis is something they don't want??? I will have to ask my consultant about it.

On my plan I am not allowed to have a creamy until day 5 or after day 5, so I don't know if that's on yours or not. I am doing OK with the HNS's. I really didn't like the grape one, but it won't be the worst thing I've ever tasted and still drank.:o I will not buy them again though if there's another choice. It sounds like your center was better stocked than mine.

I have such high expectations for myself for the next five days. You know I'm going out of town on Saturday, so I will cut myself a little slack. I am going to make good choices and take my HNS's and supplements with me to help curb any crazy cravings I get and to hopefully stall my appetite a bit. I am so looking forward to spending a fun weekend with my husband and sons. We don't get to spend many weekends together because my husband works 6 days on and 3 days off, so weekends only roll around once a month or so. I don't want to police what we do or where we go because of my eating. Does that make sense?

I would also like to say hello and welcome to the newcomers. I have only been here a short time and know that I will depend on this group of amazing people throughout my journey. I look forward to hearing your success stories too. ;)

Wow! 40 flights is awesome. :carrot: I have trouble with 1 right now.

What is the HNS? I'm a returning newbie to all this. Thanks.

Way to go Rocki for signing the #10 board and yahoo to everyone else losing weight. i'm still maintaining after the one lb. lost and hope to get in the losing game again. had a long walk on the beach yesterday but then went to our fave restaurant and sat on the deck and had two Cajun Bloody Marys! and Buffalo shrimp - will have to say w/ all the stuff going on w/ family, i could have sat there all day and drank :-) i did not have the bumps of beer i usually have w/ Bloody marys! so that's good, right?
did Mediquick today because did not feel like cooking... the Wonderslim Dark Chocolate cream shake (Diet Direct) w/ ice and water in the blender was incredible for breakfast!!!! then my chocolate truffle and lemonade Syntrax powder for the HNSs. now my DH is home and wants real food for dinner so planning on grilled mahi mahi over salad...
was cleaning out a closet today and found a pair of "hot pants" from a few years ago. good news was i can now get them on but cannot sit down. so that's my next goal - to get into them and sit down..... haha!!! could only wear at the beach though, i'm getting thinner but not younger LOL!

Hi again!
Glad I was able to make you laugh - but you know it's true!
I didn't see anywhere in my plan where I wasn't allowed any creamies until after Day 5, but I didn't purchase any, so I'm not tempted to have them right now anyway. My plan is to purchase supplements in bulk - seems to me that's the best way to go. Right now, I have enough for a little over 5 weeks so in the meantime, I'll be going to weigh-ins on Tues. (but not tomorrow) to get samples, then take notes of the ones I like for purchase later.

Just like you told me not to be so hard on myself about TOM, you should'nt be so hard on yourself about vacation. Take your supplements, drink lots of water, eat sensibly & enjoy the time with your family. Don't be afraid to ask for EXACTLY what you need at a restaurant. I had a business lunch today, but almost cancelled because I was apprehensive/afraid I would go off-plan. I went and ended up ordering grilled salmon on a bed of fresh spinach w/balsamic vinaigrette. It was pretty good, but I forgot to tell the waiter no bacon & no red onion. I ate around them pretty good (uh yeah, I crunched down on a few specs of bacon & onion!) & didn't drown my salad in dressing like I usually do. I came back to work, had my HNS & a piece of fruit for dessert and kept my day moving right along. :carrot:

Hi again!
I've just started my program today (after pre-conditioning for 6 days). I am not taking any supplements other than krill oil, a multi-vitamin & trace minerals. I want to see how my body will respond first before making the investment in supplements. I dropped 2.5 lbs. during pre-conditioning, so I'm hoping my body will continue to respond without them.

HNSs means "High Nutrient Supplements," the powders, concentrates & creamies sold at the center.

I wonder if the Atkins shakes would work that same as the whey protien? Any advice on this from anyone? Thanks.

molglo-you would have to compare the nutritional content of the two. You would have to make sure they have the same calories, fat, protein, and carb content.

The scale finally moved down, but I have been really hungry. I don't remember being so hungry before...and maybe it was just the frustration with the scale playing a big role?? I do my call in today so I was going to ask about maybe doing the metabalance.

Leo, oh my gosh girl!!!! You have got amazing willpower. You are doing so great and are really an inspiration for me. I will strive to do as well as you did while I am on vacation. You know everything you suggest is just what I plan on doing. I'm going to enjoy myself and make wise choices. I can tell you that even though I have NOT seen any weight loss, I am feeling so much better than I did before MRC. I am sure it's the combination of the vitamins and the fact I'm not putting all that junk in my body. I feel more energized and even a little clearer thinking, if that makes sense. Sometimes before I felt like I was in a fog, but not so bad now.

We do have different plans then, because mine says "Beginning day 5, you may have one daily of the creamy high nutrient supplements". So maybe there are different levels. I have heard the others talk about different color menus and then some talked about over 200 and under 200, but my consultant said she had two in mind and after the class she asked me some questions and then decided on the one I have. She asked me if I craved a lot of dairy and when I said "not really" she said she knew which plan to give me. I wonder if the other one allowed yogurt or something? Anyway, I am doing just fine, but let me tell you yesterday before supper I was starving. I mean just starving. I drank my afternoon HNS and had a protein snack with it and felt really great, but around 5:00 I couldn't hardly wait to eat. But I didn't get hungry at all between supper and bed time. Usually before bedtime the only thing I think of is sleep, I am not a night eater at all. I value my sleep much more than food. LOL

just got this info from the Hungry Girl email i subscribe to... another protein bar available w/ a decent amount of protein. 10g. good alternative and probably cheaper than Diet Direct and MRC if you need a meal replacement bar. (i do have to hide protein bars in the hutch under the China cabinet and try to limit to 1/2 a day! they are good for a meal replacement but don't abuse them! :-) we are here to lose weight but will have to say the bars have kept me from hitting the fast food places on the road! and on super busy days kept me from grabbing bad choices....
Nature Valley Protein Chewy Bars - The company best known for crunchy granola bars has added treats with a protein boost to its chewy-bar lineup. The brand-new bars come in two flavors -- Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate and Peanut, Almond & Dark Chocolate. Both are tasty and neither has the unappealing (read: chalky) texture of a conventional protein bar. Each bar has 190 calories, 12g fat, 170 - 180mg sodium, 14g carbs, 5g fiber, 6g sugars, and 10g protein

i personally found a great alternative to protein bars from Diet Direct (i'm always researching!) the Chocolite bars are sugar free and 35 cal for 1 bar (2 servings per bar) they taste like Turtles (pecan cluster) i thought they had more protein though (only 1 g!) must have read the online info wrong or it's misprint but they have worked out if i limit myself to one serving in the pm.

LOL! I don't know if it's willpower or determination or both, but I must say I'd been talking/thinking about weight loss for 6 mos. I was "getting my mind right" to start this journey (again) - it's not easy. I LOVE to cook/eat good food! I watch almost all of the Food Network shows & always looking for new recipes (I do not cook "healthy"). Speaking of which, I watched a show over the weekend, "Not My Mamas Recipes" w/Paula Deen's son. He's making over her high fat/calorie recipes so they're reduced by 1/3 or 1/2. Pretty interesting. I'm positive that once I'm in stabilization/maintenance, I'll be relying more on those type of cooking shows to teach me how to cook healthier.

When I visited my doctor, she gave me some great advice. She said, "don't be a slave to the scale." She added, "weight loss is the goal, but feeling good as a result of adopting healthier eating habits is a benefit that should not be overlooked. Keep that up, and the weight loss will follow automatically." :carrot:

Hi...
I could not go to maintenance weigh in today. So sick with vertigo and my neck, in which I have degenerated disc disease is acting up like crazy.. Will try to go Friday.. Odd, the doctor's office scale, which is the old kind, with the bar across top, weighs the same amt. my scale weighs.. One at MRC is almost 3 pounds higher, and I have the same Tanita scale they have at center. Oh,well....

Today I tried raspberry tea , decaf. with the HNS Wild tropic or whatever it is called.. Added stevia and will drink it all day long.. Very nice.. For you gals that don't like drinking plain water you can do this as long as tea is decaf.

Welcome all the newbies and congrats to all losers and Rocki, congrats on signing the board.

I love, love, love Paula Dean's recipes. I have made so many of them, the easy stuff, for holidays and parties and got so many compliments. I wish I could have taken the credit. If I watch any kind of cooking show it just makes me hungry. Especially when the weather is like it is now in TX.....cold, wet, rainy.....just the perfect weather for heating up the kitchen and staying in. Oh just thinking about it is making me hungry now. I'm so weak. LOL I really would like to have some of those lighter recipes AFTER I have lost the weight.

I love what your doctor told you and I totally agree. I just want such instant gratification with my weight loss that it's hard to see the bigger picture. I am very lucky and have a great support system in my husband and my doctor. Now to find this group and be able to talk with people that are going through the exact same thing as me, it's wonderful. You know (going to get a little personal here), as I've gotten older I have noticed the changes in the shape of my body and only until the past couple of months has it really, really bothered me. I have always been big and wanted to lose weight, but only recently have I really become so unhappy with myself. I don't like feeling this way and it makes me question what in the world my husband sees in me. I'm not having a pity party here, but it's these feelings that have really pushed me to seek out this help. I've never felt this way before and I don't suffer from depression or anything like that, it's just my time in life I guess. And my husband is wonderful and has not given me any reason to feel this way. Nothing between us has changed for the worse at all, well besides age. LOL Can you relate at all???? Sorry to be so personal.

Patzi,
so sorry you are not feeling well. Hope you're better soon. Thanks for the welcome.

My scale at home is not the same as the one at the center, but it does read the same as the one at my dr's office. They are 4 lbs less than the one at the center. I want to be 4 lbs less, but I am going to stick with the one at the center.

Oh no, not personal at all. I relate to what you're saying 100% about the body image issues. I also have become uncomfortable with myself, to the point where I'm hiding my body from my signficant other and touching "The Beast" (my stomach) is definitely off limits! He has not given me ANY reason to feel this way and as a matter of fact, told me I looked "sexy" while we were at a x-mas party and I was thinking, "who me?!" So yeah, I know EXACTLY how you feel and it's not a pity party - it's the reality of how we feel about our bodies.

My sister (who is also overweight) and I discuss the changes in our bodies since gaining weight all the time, and let me tell you, sometimes it's hilarious! For example, I asked her, "where did my butt go?" Then she said, "I think your stomach ate it!" We cracked up! Then she's like, "my thigh fat is sliding down and covering my knees" and "I've got cankles!" Cankles = no definition between calves & ankles. I mean, it's really not funny, but we were laughing so hard, tears were running down both our faces!

I have been away for a while and was trying to catch up then decided I would just start with today and go foward from there.
I did very well over the holidays. I was down 6 pounds and was proud of myself for that. I was at my parents house and was able to have enough self control to stay away from most of the holiday treats. I have stalled since I have been back though. I have had 3 WI and the first one was the down 6 pounds. I have stayed the same for the last 2 WI. I am frustrated but am hoping for a loss on Friday.
Again they asked me about the HNS's and where I was getting them. I try to take 2 of theirs and 2 other ones each day but have not been doing that this week. I don't understand why they can't foucs on the fact that I have lost 44 pounds on this plan so something must be OK with the other HNS's that I have been using. I just needed to vent about that.
I hope that I will be close enough to my goal by the time my program time is up that I won't have to purchase additional program time and can go right to stabilization. I'm going to work very hard to get to that goal. I have until the end of March to make it and have set my mind to reaching it. Then they won't be bothering me about the HNS's and where I purchase them.

[QUOTE=nwcgina;4165204]molglo-you would have to compare the nutritional content of the two. You would have to make sure they have the same calories, fat, protein, and carb content.

Would you (or anyone) happend to have the nutritional information for the shakes so that I can compare them with either the Atkins or some other shake options.

should have went to WI today but have been tired and headache... started taking MRC6 during last week after listening to the counselors go on and on about having it in my bag and not using it. Stopped taking it today and headache is gone and not tired...wondering if connected .. anyone else ever experienced this?

Gosh ynapier, I haven't seen you on here in a while! Your weight loss is awesome! You must feel and look great. I think you can get to your goal by March. Why don't you simply not tell them your are getting some of yur HNS elsewhere? Just write HNS on your journal... They will always bug you because that's how they make their money. I don't find the price to be lower than the center when I buy them in 10s, so I mostly buy 'em there. I do look for different flavors on Diet Direct and have gotten their DEADLY bars.
Maybe your center keeps closer track of what you buy ths mine seems to... Regardless, you have done so well!

The scale finally moved down, but I have been really hungry. I don't remember being so hungry before...and maybe it was just the frustration with the scale playing a big role?? I do my call in today so I was going to ask about maybe doing the metabalance.
I have considered MetaBalance too- I get SO hungry with no snacks. I got the sheet but haven't done it, don't really know why. As I recall, you exercise a lot, so MetaBalance might be effective for you, Gina.

Make sure to post about it- I am really curious what they tell you and what you ultimately decide. I feel really tired so often. I take the vitamins but I don't tell them how I feel anymore cause they just try to sell me more supplements. I don't want to spend that much money! And there is ZERO proof to back up most of their claims.

I will let you know. My consultant knows I'm a no go on any supplements besides vitamins & fish oil (I do take a b complex vitamin along with my multi). My mom is on metaslim too and she's been talking about how hungry/weak she is as well. I hate to mess up a good thing (I was down another pound again today, this is the time of the month after TOM when I rapidly lose)...but I also want to workout more. I DID do a modified metabalance yesterday just to see how it felt (I was going off what I could glean from the message boards as my consultant wasn't in and I wouldn't talk to another one) and I had more energy, wasn't so hungry (don't get me wrong, I was never "full", but just comfortable). And I did a killer Jillian workout that I can feel in my legs and back (in a good way).

Oh, and we had the discussion on another thread about muscle loss/body fat. From my calculations after doing a body comp yesterday at work I've lost 7 lbs of muscle (of my overall 23 lbs). Some muscle loss is expected and I know I can rebuild it....but I have to be able to have the energy to workout.

Well, I went last night for my first weigh in, although I am still in preconditioning. I am down 4.5 lbs since thursday. I think my counselor was more excited about it than I was. I also went to their food class, I didn't realize that cottage cheese and hidden valley ranch dip would taste so good. I have never liked cottage cheese, guess maybe for the texture but at least now I have a decent salad dressing for my salads. I go back on friday to get my food plan. I am just hopeful I can stick with this... I always lose motivation after a month or so..

I do just write HNS on the journal and about once a month they will ask me where I'm getting my stuff. I use body fortress from Walmart and do aout 2/3of a scoop. That keeps the calories and protien similiar to MRC's HNS but more cost effective. I will probably purchase soem form them on Friday when I go WI.
I feel so much better since I have lost the weight and I don't understand why they don't focus more on that instead of the bottom line. I'm off my soap box about that now though, at least until they ask me again about the HNS. :)

OK, this time I'm not alone in my office and the project manager is laughing at me laughing. I don't dare tell him what's making me laugh so hard. Thank God for our wonderful husbands. It was like reading exactly the same thing with us. He will tell me how beautiful I am and compliment me and I think he needs to get his eyes checked or wonder how much he's had to drink. As a matter of fact, a few years ago he had lasik(not sure how to spell it) and when he tells me stuff like that I will tell him that I don't think his lasik took. He tells me he has perfect vision in his eyes and heart.

Had an awesome talk with my consultant. Told her I was losing but with increasing activity was just really, really hungry. So she didn't even suggest a supplement, she said "let's try you on this other plan" and described metabalance and is sending it to me. So we are going to try it a few weeks. If I continue to lose and can be active then that's what I'll do to finish out. If it stalls me, we'll change back. I am close to my goal and making good progress...this plan sounds so much better for the activity level I want...It was good for me to have a few months where I didn't do much activity and just focused on eating. Before I would exercise and overeat either as a reward or feel it was justified...now I know nutrition is first and foremost.

Hey, guys -

Everything has been crazy over the holidays. I didn't have any major gains and went for a weigh-in last week to discover I'm down 51 pounds overall! So excited!

RN - I wouldn't sweat the .2 pound gain... there are so many ways our weight fluctuates! I've noticed over the course of the plan that my weight fluctuations vary greatly depending upon stress and sleep. If I miss a few hours of sleep (which happened alot this week with a sick kid) or if I'm stressed out, I can gain as much as two pounds at a WI... depressing, but it's just how my body reacts.

I love reading the threads on here and the amazing support on here. Best wishes for awesome weigh ins this week!

HI Everyone--I'm back after a few weeks off. My center didn't want me to, but I completely went off plan from Thanksgiving through this past weekend. I gained about 8-10 lbs, which was more than I would have liked, but I'm back at it now and am down 3 lbs in just a couple of days. I have to tell you though, it was worth it--I baked and did fun stuff with my kids and really enjoyed all the family time without worrying. I'm back at it now though, and hope to lose about 40 lbs. I'm really really going to try to be OP the whole time. I'm taking a little different approach this time, and hopefully it will go quicker than last time. :)

I don't like cottage cheese either. I've been using the Wishbone Salad Spritzers (Balsamic Breeze). Do you mix the cottage cheese & HVR in a blender to make it smooth?

As far as the powdered/concentrate supplements, I can recommend the Kiwi Melon (tastes like green apple) and the Mixed Fruit Fiber (pretty sweet - tastes like fruit punch).

know exactly what you mean! i love, love this program but would get my barbs up when they started harassing me about purchasing supplements and HNSs from them. seriously, i paid them over $300, that was enough! i actually would have bought a few HNSs from them but when i'd want something, they'd be out of it. wanted to buy the Metabol recipe book from them and they were out. wow. thank goodness for you guys on this forum!! i'd read stuff here and then go to center and ask them and they'd be like, yeah, we have recipes, tips on eating out, etc. anyway, glad i knew from these boards what to ask for :-) i leave my pocketbook in the car when i go in to weigh!

Ok, who does this? when i have a good weigh in at the center, i'll weigh myself again at home, stripping off all my clothes! i just want to see that number again...then i dance around. then usually will grab something i've havent worn in awhile to see if i can get into it! i feel like i'm still in the honeymoon stage of this diet plan and usually w/ other plans, i get bored and quit and regain.

for those of you that are hungry, are you drinking at least 4 HNSs a day? or maybe try some fiber supplements to fill you up? or maybe you are exercising more that i am (i do need to step up my activity) i walk 5 days a week for 40 minutes... i do take women's daily vitamin, (2)B-6, B-12, 2 fish oil capsules, calcium pill daily... few times a week, take fiber supplements....
don't take any supplements from MRC.. i prob should get more sleep- will stay up too late reading lots of nights, then pups wake me up around 6:30 am to walk...

bigdog-I was drinking 4 HNS's a day. It used to keep me satisfied, but when I upped my activity it wasn't enough. I had weakness that didn't allow me to do what I wanted and was hungry. I'm training for a Warrior Dash in June and maybe a 10K or half marathon in October. Oh, and since I weigh at home & call in I don't do quite the same, but if I'm .4 or something away from a really great new number, I'll go do a Jillian workout to sweat it out to get down...then dance around or grab the measuring tape.

molglo-you can ask your center for the metabalance. I'm not able to distribute it since it is copywrited. I think some people buy from diet direct, but overall their prices are very similar. I do buy some whey protein at walmart, but you have to compare the nutritional value. If you don't have the nutritional info, you can always find it on myfitnesspal.com. Most of the MRC stuff is entered in there.

Loving the metabalance plan...and still losing. Was able to go for a 2 mile run/walk last night (and mostly run...before I couldn't run b/c my legs were so weak). And I realized last night when I was stretching...I am down 24 with MRC, but I am down 60 POUNDS since my highest weight.

I told my consultant that if I stall on metabalance I'll cut back on activity and go back to metaslim...but that the activity is good for my mental health:) It's me time and it makes me feel so good. I'd be okay even staying at this weight if I lost about 2 more inches on my waist:) She said she'd rather have me going back to the activity too. I guess the manager there is a fitness instructor and agreed that it was the best plan for me. But it was good for me to cut out the activity for a while.

Hi ladies!

Well, it has been a couple of days since I have been on here...busy, like everyone :)

I am on "Stabilization" and this is my 2nd week on Menu #1...lol If you gain after the first week, you don't get the next menu...so here I am!

I had a WI with the center within 4 days of starting Stabilization, and 2 of the days was away celebrating my anniversay with the hubby...and not making great food choices. It is hard enough being away, but I get into this mode when vacationing that what I eat shouldn't matter, cause I am on vacation!! Hmmm...I may need to rethink that mentality.

Anyway, back on track now that I am home, and I am hoping to graduate to menu #2 at my next WI:)

Sounds like we are all plucking along one day at a time, and many are losing big time! Great job!!!

I will stay in touch...

Hi everyone. Leo, how are you doing today? I have been so crazy busy at work I only have a minute, but there are so many posts I want to remark on.

I am going to be selfish for a minute and whine/complain and hopefully get some wonderful advice and spirit lifting comments from all of you amazing people. I am stressing and I am soooooooo hungry sometimes. I'm drinking 4 HNS's a day and staying OP really well. The hunger is really bothering me. Anyone else struggling this much? I have also stressed with my sons.....one 15 year old and one 12 (feb 4 he'll be 12). My oldest is a typical teenager, defiant, hard-headed, just got learners permit and knows everything already, and a good, good kid, but has semester finals today and tomorrow and because he knows everything is refusing to study. Trust me, his grades reflect how little he knows. He's passing, but by the skin of his teeth. My 12 year old had a horrible toothache yesterday and I took him to the dentist this morning. He had to have a root canal that cost me $335. UGH. Yes, that was with dental insurance. Anyway, all of this stress is getting to me. I want to go buy a king-size hershey bar and a 12 pack of coors light. Not sure in which order, but I want them both. I'm sure my body is in shock too from the diet. LOL

Hi KG! I'm doing just fine today! I'm sorry your sons are stressing you out! Pre-teens & teens are just RASCALS! Just think, you'll be on VACATION very soon so hopefully, you can hang in there until then. Also, that unexpected $335 IS quite a hit to the wallet, but be thankful you have the money to pay. Your son isn't in pain anymore (which is PRICELESS). Maybe "Mr. Know It All" needs some consequences if his grades aren't where you'd like for them to be.........

I'm not a "stress eater" but I'm sure there's a thread here that addresses it and gives tips/pointers on how to handle it.

As far as the hunger goes, I've noticed that at times I'm hungrier than others - even though I'm sticking to the plan (usually between lunch & dinner). I try to combat it with chugging water (temporary fix). I'm also drinking 4 HNS's per day. I'm going to mention it when I go weigh-in tomorrow, but I have a suspicion my counselor is going to tell me to either 1) increase the HNSs; or 2) purchase one of their products to curb my appetite. We'll see, but in the meantime, I'm researching NATURAL appetite suppresants, fat burners, carb blockers and if you have time, I encourage you to do the same. As someone else posted, MRC's supplements have NO science behind them, which really turns me off plus, I'm not interested in having to depend on (or feel like I have to depend on) manufactured supplements for sustained weight loss.

Tomorrow is a new day & I hope you're feeling better!

KG-when I first got on the program I was HUNGRY until I learned some ways to combine my HNS with no calorie beverages (soda, decaf coffee, tea) to help with the hunger. That made a huge difference for about 2 months...then I lost over 20 and started getting active again and got hungry again so they switched my plan. (Stress definitely uppped my hunger).

Molglo - The protein I use is Body Fortress from Walmart. I don't like chocolate so I get the vanilla and then add crystal light for variety. I know they have chocolate and cookies and cream but am not sure what other flavors they have. The center really does NOT like me using other HNS. I usually do 2 from the center and 2 of the BF each day. Sometimes I only do 1 from the center. Good luck.

So far still losing on metabalance...so happy. I'm still never "full", just satisfied. More energy. i honestly still can't believe the number I am seeing...162?? Me?? Never, never, never...I still think of myself as 182...180's have been part of my life for a long time. i'll probably have a heart attack when I hit the 150's:)

For those of you starting out...keep with it. It does work if you follow it. My only off plan moments in 2 1/2 months were having 2 Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. I haven't had pizza, subs, fries, PB sandwich, sweets...the list is long...since Oct 31 and I'm not missing it. Oh sure, if I see/smell/think a lot about pizza I really want some, but the end result is worth the temporary restriction. And then when I hit maintenance I can figure out how to add back in some of those things in smaller, less frequent quantities to keep myself at a healthy weight.

I love the way you worded all of this, Gina :) Stabilization is still pretty strict, but again...worth it. All of this is worth it. I haven't had much of the items you mentioned since May of 2011! I MISS peanut butter/jelly sandwiches and cereal the most :) Just like you said though...soon I will be able to reintroduce in smaller quanities while still maintaining what I have worked so hard to lose.

Awesome insight...

I had maintenance weigh in this morning and lost 1 pound, putting me 6 1/2 pounds under goal.. I did try to lose another pound, as the car races are starting here end of January, and for the 24 hour race, I want to be able to indulgem plus I have parties to go to relative the Nascar races. I want to indulge in the 24 hour tail gate party at the paddock this year, as last year I was still losing weight and brought my own food.

Remember ladies, if you have a drink, omit a fruit. U was talking about that with consultant today.

I tried one new thing this week on maintenance.. I tried Fat Free Ricotta Cheese with some of the super chocolate powder( one we make brownies with) and some stevia.. Very very good.. Enjoyed it and no weight gain.
Also added couscous to my meal, usually have 1/4 cup as grain is a big one of my carb triggers and that went fine. Couscous has onions, zucchini, veggie broth with spices in it.

Wishing you all a great weigh in and remember, if you work the program it works and it is worth it.. Best investment I ever made.

I am curious if any of you experienced being very tired the week of preconditioning.. I am a night owl, but since about the third day on preconditioning I have just been so tired come 8pm, which is completely unlike me.. Does it go away or will I continue being very tired early evening?

I did. I absolutely dragged during my preconditioning. I was tired, then irritable, then emotional.

A large part of that is the withdrawal from some of the foods that your body had depended on (for me it was carbs, but I know some people were caffeine hounds before starting the plan, and that would do it, too).

The only advice I can give you is to make sure you get at least 64oz of water a day (it does help with the tiredness a little if you're well-hydrated) and to just plug along until they give you your meal plan. Once you start the actual plan with the HNS drinks, you'll feel lots better--I did, anyway. I think between the new meal plan and having been off of refined carbs and sugar for a week my body was able to get into the new food routine and my blood sugars evened out a lot so that I didn't have the dips that would make me so tired.

Good morning everyone,
This thread moves so fast. If you miss a day, you miss a lot!
I love reading about everyone's experiences on MRC. My plan is so different that I can't always relate or comment, but it still is inspiring to be among a group of people who have the same goal. Unfortunately, I seem to lose way slower than most people - always have. My plan is basically 1,200 to 1,300 calories a day in a structured way. If I lose a pound a week, I'm happy. Some day I hope to be one of the stabilizer/maintainers. You guys inspire me!
Also, there sure are a lot of us from Colorado on here. I wonder if MRC markets a lot here or if it's just a coincidence. Hmm...

Help! All the sudden I feel like throwing in the towel. I'm not far from goal and losing steam. I was so proud that I managed to lose a little over the holidays but now I just want to stop thinking about it. I want to stop putting in the effort it takes to plan. Stop working on alternative ways to decompress rather than mindless eating. As I write this, what I hear is that I'm tired. My job has been stressful, a few things have been out of the norm at home... I just want everything to stop and I want everyone to leave me alone.

I looked forward to getting back to normal after the holidays, but I haven't gotten there. I don't know why, perhaps in part because my daughter is still
here from college? Of course I love having her, but every dinner feels like it's "special" in some way, and to be honest, I try not to act like I'm dieting in front of her. Last night we went out for dinner at a very nice place - birthday dinner for husband- and today I am up 2 pounds! Yesterday up almost 1 from the day before that.

I am in dangerous territory. I don't want to drive all the way to my center to weigh in when it will be bad news and I don't need to buy any HNS.

How can I get my head back in the right place?

camaswa-A few suggestions, hope one of them helps. The first is to look back at pictures from when you started, go back and read your first posts here, or if you keep a journal, read there. Remember what it was like at the beginning, and you so don't want to go back there. If you are at a place you'd like to stay, then talk to them about stabilization rather than go backwards. The second is to take some time looking forward and asking yourself why you want to get to goal, how will it benefit you? Why do you want the last few pounds off? will it put you in a different size? Give you more confidence? Be better for your health? I was questioning wanting to go to stabilization just because I was tired and frustrated, so I committed do doing one more month (Jan) strictly on plan and see where I was and reassess if I wanted to go any lower. So glad I did...switched to the metabalance and am losing again. I am still going to reassess at the end of Jan, but will probably go through Feb as that should put me at goal or darn close.

Kuntreegirl - I hear you on stress. It is a major factor in my gaining weight, even if I am eating on plan. One thing I noticed is that I crave chocolate when I'm stressed... my mom's homemade fudge called my name like crazy. You don't want to give in (although I admit I did snag one piece during the holiday), but I find that drinking alot of water and doing the fiber drink helped me through a few times of hunger. Also, are you sleeping well? I think sometimes our mind keeps going and we really need to just shut down and sleep... you know?

Matea36- I did the same thing with preconditioning... I was tired way to early. I agree that it was my body ridding itself of the foods it was used to. For me, it was also carbs and sugar that picked me up throughout the day, ... the first few days I didn't have it, I was miserably sleepy. Just hang in there, make sure you're drinking your water (for me, 100 oz does better than the 64, for some reason) and also make sure you're resting enough (going to bed earlier, etc..).

Camawsa - you are such an inspiration on your weight loss. Don't throw in the towel! Remember that this is journey and things will get better... you'll get back into routine again and do great. I think though that, if you need to take a break, it may be worth it just to break the monotony... or try a new recipe or something that excites you again about losing weight (mine was dropping a size...). I thought back to when I was that small and the answer? Over 10 years ago...

I admit I'm not as strict or "gung-ho" now that I've been on since August, but I'm still plugging along...

Hi Everyone!
Today is a GREAT day! NOTHING can ruin my mood or bring me down! Wanna know why? (Drumroll, please). I weighed in today and lost SEVEN pounds. YAY ME! :carrot: I'm 1/2 lb. from signing the 10 lb. board. :D

My counselor was like AMAZED (and so was I). I was only expecting a 3-4 lb. loss so 7 just about floored me. To top that, they had the Double Chocolate Wafer Bars on sale - buy 1 get 1 free, so I purchased a box after tasting a sample. Then, I got to pop a balloon (that had a prize inside) and won a free sample (I wanted a creamy, they didn't have any so I settled for my fav so far - Kiwi Melon drink).

For any newbies who are doubting this program, DON'T. For me, this program has worked better than ANY of the "popular" plans out there and I've tried at least 3 of them. Is it a challenge? YES. Is it worth it? YES. This is an investment in ME, I'M WORTH IT AND SO ARE YOU!

I'm always so grateful for your replies Leo....you can put a smile on my face. Things are better today and my husband basically said the same thing that you did.....I would have paid any price to take the pain away for my son and yes, I'm very thankful that I am able to pay it. I won't say it didn't hurt though. Just so you know, I am a worrier. I would love to change that to wArrior, but for now, it's wOrrier. LOL My oldest or "Mr. Know it all" as you called him (love it) does have consequences for his grades and has suffered them a lot this year. My biggest concern with him is that it seems like he just doesn't care sometimes. Rascals is a perfect word for my boys too.

I am concerned about my hunger when I'm drinking 4 hns's and taking almost every supplement they offer. I really feel like I shouldn't be getting hungry. Believe me after taking all those pills it feels like nothing else could fit inside my stomach, but that only lasts a short time. I really don't want to keep spending my money if it's not worth it. I'm not talking about the plan....just the supplements. I am going to do some research as well, but please keep me informed as to what you find.

I am feeling better today. I am so looking forward to leaving town and just not thinking about work, school, grades, bills. Year end at work is going to turn me into an alcoholic. Month end, quarter end, and year end all at once. FUN FUN. I am not even going to make into the center today for my WI but I'm not sorry, because I'm afraid to step on the scales with all this stress. I really wish I lost weight when I stressed instead of gained. Anyway, I really feel better today no matter what I complain about. LOL:dizzy:

Hope you have a good weekend and I look forward to hearing from you.

It hasn't been that long since the holidays and it's OK to enjoy yourself. Enjoy your daughter being there. You know you CAN do this and when you're ready you'll get there. I know what you mean about going in to weigh when you know it won't be good. You are not going to throw in the towel because you've come too far. You are an inspiration for the ones of us that are just starting and we are all human and wonderfully flawed. Don't beat yourself up.

Good luck.

Thanks so much. I will look for the BF this weekend.

Way to go, LEO! That is awesome.

Just made chocolate chip cookies with the kids (first snowy day of the year, it was pretty much a must do activity). Did sneak 2 chocolate chips, but other than that not eating them. I kept my hot cocoa right by us while were making them so when I was tempted I drank that. For once it was enjoying the activity of baking with the kids and not for the pleasure of licking the bowl or eating 10 cookies. I love the new mindset where I am not controlled by food.

I love shoes, too, so I think that's a fantastic reward! FYI, though--your shoe size will change a little bit, but not until you've lost quite a bit. I went from size 9.5/10 (depending on the brand) to size 9/9.5.

I had a few shoes that I simply can't wear anymore because they're too big. It's okay, though, as I buy really good quality shoes and then wear them until they're falling apart, so I was due for a few new pairs. That, and now that I'm wearing way cuter clothes, I needed some different styles of shoes to go with them. ;)

I'm glad you like them, Patzi! I'm finding that I really enjoy the challenge of finding more and more interesting meals to make and keep in my "rotation" of things to eat so I don't get bored and end off going off track. I still eat plain chicken and veggies sometimes, but it feels good to eat something that seems so gourmet at times--but still know that it's healthy for me and not going to cause me to gain!

I've only been posting about twice a week, but I'd like to start to get to the point where I'm posting 4-5 times a week. That's more likely to happen in the summer, though, when I'm not working full-time. :)

Leo the Lioness -- great job on your week!
Casamawa --I totally understand about being in a spot where things are a little struggle. I have been there myself this week. But I am back on track, really thinking back through my menu plan and making the choices that I need to when eating out. I haven't weighed in yet this week but I know by my scale I am down a couple of pounds. Taking a short mental break definitely helped me.

I have stopped taking the MRC-6 after posting the other night aobuut how tired and having headaches after I started taking them -- headaches are gone and i don't feel as tired. so I am staying away from them for a while. I will stick with just my vitamins and B12.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Girl, you are my inspiration!! you threw away a box of chocolate over the holidays!! there is no way i would ever have the willpower to do that! i did throw away a half bag of choc. covered peanuts that i had in my car and if i hadn't read your post, i would have never done that - ever in a million years. (i was at the ATM and got out and stuffed that bag in the little tiny trashcan near the envelopes!) i felt great for doing that. i would have kept eating them and tell my self that a little each day wouldn't hurt me (that belief put those 35 lbs on me!) when i have company it's really hard - had to baby sit my MIL a few days this week again - after a day of eating off plan, i was like this is crazy, i can stay on plan and she can eat what i eat, only more. but i did find myself eating stuff off plan because my DH was bringing home "bad" food! it's in the house and i'm eating it. then i'd do Mediquick to lose it again. Plus to deal w/ my MIL, i found out that wine definitely makes the evenings a little less stressful! i do know when i exercise more, that really really helps - not just on the scale but for my well being.

i'm thinking for you, at your height, your weight now is probably where you should be at. i bet you look great!!! how about talking to your center about starting the stabilization earlier? i think you are ready and if you do lose a little more, then that's a bonus.
Also, just tell your daughter that you are eating healthier because you feel better (don't mention diet) since you have a trainer, you can say he/she recommended this food plan.
Have a good weekend and keep sharing what is going on. i'm filling up my water jug!! MIL is out of the house -for today anyway - YAY!

What is mediquick?

you can check w/ your counselor --my center emailed it to me when i asked them for it...one counselor hit the roof when i asked her about it then i emailed my center a couple weeks later and they emailed it to me! :-)
the instructions are that you can only do the meta-quick menu up to 7 days a month...consecutively or throughout the month.
i use it to lose quickly if i've had a couple off days or have reached a stall in wt. loss.

4 HNS per day - 1 at b-fast and lunch, use the other 2 as snacks between meals. 1 HNS can be creamy.
B-fast- one MRC meal replacement bar or meal replacement shake
Lunch " "
Dinner - 4 oz protein (ckn, turkey, white tuna or white fish, buffalo/bison) , 4 oz cooked veg or 8 oz raw veg., 40 cal. bread or 1 serv. melba toast (40 cal)
they recommend 1 scoop MRC super Veggii or Super Fruit and Veggi (i've never added this myself)

Thanks, all, for the great support regarding my freak-out. I am not ready to quit. I do look soooo much better and I'm not all the way there. My bodyfat is still in the high 30s. I feel I should get to 160 then switch my emphasis more to exercise and building muscle with a maintenance food plan. I do remember when Gina was struggling with something similar and maybe MetaBalance might be a good change. I have considered that before...

Today we take our daughter to the airport for her return to school. I am making a menu and shopping list now so I can stop at the store on the way back. Fresh start!

Also, I slept 11 hours last night- could not believe it. I do think I got exhausted, which makes me want to eat crap and also makes me feel depressed and negative. So today is a new day all around.

Thanks again for the replies - and yes, I DID throw away a box of chocolate not too long ago!! Haha! I can be one strong mother when I put my mind to it.

camaswa-I'm still loving metabalance. I feel so much better mentally and physically. Getting ready to go out for a run which i wasn't able to do before. I would say I am satisfied eating. Never full and still get slightly hungry, but usually by then it's time for a small snack:) And now that I'm exercising I lost an inch off my lower tummy which I haven't been losing much there in comparison to the rest of my body.

what are some good exercises for lower belly? that's the only place i seem to be holding on to weight and plz don't tell me to try cortitrim! :-) i'm sure it's because im on the computer so much for job, sitting down and then jump on FB and this website....i need an IPAD (company is supposed to be getting them for us) so figured i can jump on exercise bike and do FB, email, etc. :-)

bigdog-those turkey muffins of Jamie Eason's are awesome! Low abs...for me running, plank holds, and especially the basic pilates mat series helps the most. I don't know why running does a better job than walking for me, maybe the posture I keep or extra calories I burn, but it does help with that and my butt. Pilates are huge for helping me prevent injury. I DO NOT do cortitrim nor will I.

Tonight I made my own italian turkey meatballs...if I remember right I used 2 lbs turkey, 1 slice bread (35 cal), 1 egg, a bunch of chopped green onion, 1/2 tsp oregano, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp salt. They were super yummy. I put them on top of spagetti squash with a homemade tomato sauce (tomatoes, spices, green peppers)...it was good. Oh, and then my "garlic bread" (toast 35 calorie bread, little spray butter, little garlic powder). "dessert" was 1/2 c fage (greek yogurt) with a kiwi melon HNS mixed in (best part of metabalance is yogurt).

i've never done Pilates...i'll have to try that. the meatballs sound great, i'm saving the recipe - Yum! i'm on Metaslim but i do eat Greek yogurt for a protein (it's so high in protein - i'll have for lunch w/ blueberries or strawberries) not on plan but to me it's the same amount of protein (actually higher) and carbs compared to cottage cheese. i eat SF FF jello too (it's 10 cal.) Jello didn't put all this weight on me and great when i'm craving dessert.

I "officially" started the Beige menu on Wednesday. The counselor also advised me to use All Day Weigh Loss, MRC-6, Corislim, Fish Oil, and Multi-Vitamin.

Since I started the program, I haven't been hungry which is a great thing BUT...

I have had diarrhea bad enough that I have had to take medicine since Friday...and Friday and Saturday, I have had the worst stomach pain in the world.

It is strange because none of this starts until I take the first round of pills in the morning....

For instance...right now....I feel fine. I haven't taken any medicine and I haven't eaten.

I don't know if this is some kind of virus, something that my body is not agreeing with in the meds or just normal reaction to the different way of eating.

Have any of you had anything similar happen?

RNClose,
For what it's worth, I'm not taking any of their supplements. Even multi-vitamins tend to make me nauseous, so I'm doing chewables for now since they don't seem to make me feel bad. If I were you, I'd follow the plan perfectly and skip all the pills, but it's totally your call. Maybe at least give yourself a break from them for a couple of days?

I make my own turkey meatballs, turkey meatloaf muffins and turkey sausage and freeze them . Last week made 3 dozen turkey meatballs. I make a spaghetti sauce that I use to make on stove for hours in a crockpot and use those turkey meatballs right in the sauce. They are wonderful.. All three I use lots and they sure helped me get to maintenance. One of my breakfasts on the run is a veggie egg quiche muffin and a turkey sausage. It goes to show one, that we can make all these items with no supplents from the center. Big Dog you are correct, I posted the turkey muffins in the recipe forum.

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend.

the fish oil gives me diarrhea so I dont take as much as they say. Why dont you stop all the pills, then introduce them one at a time and see if/when the discomfort starts up again. Sometimes people react to all the artificial sweeteners too. Good luck!

go to Diet Direct and all of their products have the nutritional info listed. from what i've read on these posts, the Protidiet brand is the closest to what MRC sells. so i compare what i want to get to those products so it's similar.
Nashua Nutrition is also a good site to go to. i always shop the sales! :-)

Morning all! Was pumped by the scale this morning...I then went and did a 30 minute Jillian workout to see if I could sweat off just a bit more. I can't believe I'm only 11 pounds to my goal...but even if I stayed right here I really feel great (and like how I look). And I lost an inch off my butt and tummy (each) over the past 2 weeks now that I added more exercise back in. I HAD to let go of exercise for a while so I didn't rely on it/overeat. I had to get a better relationship with food first. Now the exercise is a freeing feeling and not a prison of "I have to"...

I just weighed in and lost 0.5 pounds. Shocked me. TTOM came this morning so I really thought I had gained. I'll take it!

Good morning, ladies :)

Having a tough time with feeling motivated this week:( I am on Stabilization, and any deviation from plan seems to affect my weight...not the items I am adding, just "life." Unexpected out to eats, etc...It is even more critical now that I do things right daily, and that is hard.

Anyone know how many menus make up "Stabilization?" Crap, I am worried I may be on menu #1 forever! LOL

My WI is tomorrow, and my fingers are just crossed that I am back to my Stabilization weight so I can move on to the next step...doesn't help that my TOM is coming in less than a week, so dealing with water retention and bloating I am sure. I know..."poor Tami" haha That is what this is for, right? I need a little extra support ladies!!

Oh, and by the way...I don't know about anyone else, but I have decided that I don't like "Metaquick Days".....hungry on those and don't like being hungry!

Keep up the great work and have a great day:flow2:

You go, Bigdog! I know exactly how you feel about seeming that 6!! You have done great to maintain 170 during the family crisis time. Really great!! I can't wait to see that 6 point whatever in you post by Monday!

I'm afraid I'm not getting my own number back down where it was. I saw 166.4 about a week ago, then I started bouncing around like crazy. Like up as high as 170! Today was 169. I havent seemed to get 100 percent back on plan for a single day lately. I'm very busy at my job with multiple projects, feeling unfocused there as well. In the course of a say I go to multiple meetings on multiple things and come away with action items from all. Hmm maybe there is a connection...
I am wearing my old size 12a today. The 14s are now officially falling off. Not just baggy but unwearable.

Here's to a good day everyone

I had maintenance weigh in this morning and gained one pound..

Reason I think this happened.. I never eat a heavy dessert at night, usually have some cocoa or a few nuts, but nothing heavy , as we eat supper late.

I had my fat free ricotta cheese with some carmel walnut farms at night, and the next morning I was up 2 pounds.. Boy is this frustrating.. I usually have my large treat earlier in afternoon, with some coffee.. Soooo, I guess the food stayed with me. So, will not do that anymore, I guess.

I am now 5 1/2 pounds under goal.

Tamikl... I am not sure I am following you about the menu. I think the menu is changed every week until you hit the 6th week, unless you are not staying OP and gaining weight.. I can pull up my information if you like.
On stabilization, if I gained weight with it, I omitted it.. There are certain trigger foods I can't eat, to this day. Hang in there, it is worth it, I promise.
If you need help, let me know.If you gain weight on stabilization, have the center figure it out and fix it for you as to what to add. That happened to me one week, and they figured it out for me.. Also, don't forget to journal while you are on stabilization as this makes one accountable.. I am so weak, I still do it on maintenance... I find if I don't journal I become sloppy with eating. But that is me, some are more disciplined ..

Congrats to all the losers, and all that maintained. Wishing you all a great weigh in.

Good Morning!

A week or so ago, I mentioned I was doing research on natural products that assist with fat-burning & I think I've found one that's worth a try - L-CARNITINE.

L-Carnitine is already produced in the body. It's function is to transport fat to the mitochondria in our cells, then the mitochondria uses the fat as energy.

Here's the source: l-carnitinebenefits dot net or you can google "L-Carnitine."

For those who are exercising, this may be beneficial in kicking up your metabolism even more! :carrot:

Hi Patzi...that is correct to my understanding. I had a gain after the first week on Stabilization, so they kept me on the same menu they started me on Stabilization with. That is my concern...if it is suppose to last 6 weeks, I guess it could go on longer if my weight fluctuates each week. I just figured that 6 weeks meant 6 different menus?? I will check tomorrow. Problem for me is that I don't think that the starches I am adding every other day caused my gain:( It was not being totally OP while away on a trip...regardless, a setback.

Try not to beat yourself up over the gain, Patzi. You are sooo disciplined and such a motivation to us all! At least you are able to pinpoint what the food item might have been that triggered the gain. I do keep my journal...and I am fairly certain that without my weekly WI with the center, I would be in trouble. I need that accountability....maybe forever~!

It's been a heck of a week and I just have to ask, how do you all handle stress? I'm almost a year into MRC and having probably one of the worst weeks ever. I'm in the middle of a two week audit. This is what my job is based around. I woke up this morning sick to my stomach after not getting to bed to 1 AM trying to get things ready for today. Last Friday I turned 40, it was awesome, but then at 9 PM my sister called to tell me my 2 year old lost one of her front teeth when she tripped and fell while playing. So, I've been a stressed mess lately and not dealing very well. I need to get back on track.

HELP!

Jen B - I have found that execrise helps me with stress. The more stress I'm feeling the faster I go on the Gazelle. I also enjoy getting lost in a good book. That takes my mind off the issues for a time. Hang in there, it will get better.

I went to WI and was a little worried about it. I had a birthday party for my son this weekend and did eat a small piece of cake with a small scoop of ice cream. I had an HNS with the cake also, which I guess helped. I was suprised when I was down 1.5 pounds at WI. I hope to keep up this progress to reach goal by the time my program time is up. I really don't want to purchase more program time. That has been a big motivator for me. The center has set a goal of 185 for me but I want to get down to 180 or maybe 175. I will see how it goes in the next couple of months. I may not tell the center that I was to lose 5 more pounds if I'm at "their" goal for me when I get close to the end of my program time.

Good luck with WI and keep losing ladies.

About stress: when I let things stress me out, i get worn out. I can't even imagine excerciing at that time. Yet it is a nervous kind of exhaustion with tension that doesn't get relieved by simply " putting my feet up a while.". That is when food is dangerous. Often I am ravenous at the same time because I have been going too fast to eat. So when I get a chance to finally eat, it's not pretty. I can satisfy the physical hunger but the tension is still there. That's one reason alcohol is somewhat of an issue for me. It works. Like now, I'm aware of my tense shoulders and back and visions of a glass of wine are floating in my mind. Even before I read Jen's post, I was aware that I needed to think of something to do differently when I got home. Right now a shower is sounding like a good idea. I'm lucky that as an empty-nester I no longer feel that pressure to get dinner on the table right away. So I am going to try to unwind with a shower and a clear HNS in sparkling water. We will see how that goes.

How do I handle the stress? I used to eat:) Now I just want to eat but try to find something else as an outlet like cleaning, journaling, exercising or blogging.

I've been an everyday weigh-er. Now I think I'm going to try doing once a week. I am getting close to my goal...actually at this weight if I lost inches I would be okay with the scale. And once I"m at goal I want enough accountability to keep me on track but not a slave to the scale everyday (I always used to get discouraged by the fluctuations...and I think I haven't been as excited about my losses as I see them almost everyday in .5 lb increments). So here's my plan...stay with my exercise/Metabalance plan until end of Feb (I do plan on going off plan for one meal on Feb 3 when we go see Dave Ramsey-I want to celebrate:). Weigh in once a week. Wherever my body is at the end of Feb is where I want to maintain (I think). If I stay the same, I stay the same and I'm fine there. If my body loses (which it should), then great. Then it's on to stabilization then maintenance...and of course getting my running back up.

I have arthritis in my knees...At 200 lbs it was debilitating. I couldn't get on and off the toilet without severe pain (at age 30!). I asked the doctor if losing weight would help. He said they were so bad it wouldn't. I could only walk like 5 minutes at 2.5 mph on the treadmill. And I told myself if that's all I could do, then I would be happy doing that. 5 minutes became 10 then 20. I got down to 185 and could walk 60 minutes and even jog some. Now at 161 I am able to run 30 mintues (my lungs are a little out of shape now). The weight made a HUGE difference! Just had to share.

nwcgina,
I'm very glad to hear that your arthritis is better with losing weight. My joints are killing me right now! I have arthritis in my knees, ankles and feet. My husband and I are doing Tae Kwon Do together three nights a week and we come home in serious pain. I try to walk on the dreadmill or do Just dance a couple of times a week too. I'm hoping with more weight loss it will get better and better. So far I'm down a total of 65 pounds and am able to do things I couldn't then, but till have a ways to go. Oh yeah, it also doesn't help being an old lady!

what really helps me with stress is focusing on this diet plan - at least i can control the food i put in my mouth! walking helps me the most and hugging the daylights out of my three furry children :-) they are my best walk partners - they are also good listeners. i am so behind in work it's crazy (helping to take care of MIL and doing paperwork for FIL) to get them in an assisted living. so today i'm tackling a to do list a mile long but i can do it! with a jug of water by my side. i have been doing meal replacements when i don't have time or feel like eating. a yummy dark chocolate shake is more appetizing to me than food. the strawberry yogurt protein shake w/ frozen strawberries for lunch. (all from Diet Direct).
Camaswa, good for you w/ getting into the 12's~! the pants i had on yesterday kept falling down and i was tripping over them - they were so long!
Congratulations to everyone that even if you are stressed and gain a little, sounds like everyone is addressing that right away and getting the weight right back off.
Gina- for your doctor to tell you that weight loss wouldnt matter (to ease pain in knees) is just crazy! glad you ignored him.
i've been at the library alot lately and really get lost in good books - that really helps get me to sleep. my DH laughs and says everytime we rent a movie, i fall asleep on the couch! then i have to watch it again - so i told him when i'm asleep on the couch- let me sleep - at least i'm catching some ZZZZZZZZs
keep focused ladies - we have all done so well, so no backsliding. let's lose some more fat and gain some muscle!! :dancer:

Good morning! Woke to MAJOR snow (very unusual here) so I'm staying home! Yay!

I have been letting the fluctuations bug me, but I do think I still need to weigh everyday for now. One suggestion I read somewhere was if you do that, add them all up at then end of the week and divide by 7. Over time you would start to see your true weekly loss.

Does anyone ever browse around on the rest of 3FC? There is a forum for long-term maintainers that is nothing short of inspiring. Everyone who is close to goal should look at some of those posts! In a nutshell: it never stops! It must become a life change. I still feel far from that. But closer than I once was when I would not check my weight for months at a time because I was afraid to find out.

Bigdog, a few years ago, I went through **** with my parents: dad was dying, mom was in a wheelchair and demented, I had to move her into assisted living, dispose of all their stuff, try to be there for him as he worsened In a Hospice center, plan his funeral, help her cope - all at the same time. It was surreal. I was dieting when it all started and I found that oddly it was comforting to me to have that control of what I ate. I stayed on my plan. It was so surprising to me. So I think I know what you mean. Hang in!

W/ my in-laws- we are the only family livng here so it's been a real challenge but know we'll get through this too. the funny thing is when i lost 2 lbs a couple weeks ago, i still did my happy dance!!
my main stress is trying to keep up at work (i'm in sales) so when i'm not my happy little self, kind of hard to sell. but i can do it!! my OB/Gyn tells me that she has seen me bounce back after bad things happen and tells me i'm amazing. it's like what the "Help" says in the movie "The Help" to the little girl- you are smart, you are strong, you are beautiful, etc. i said that to myself headed to a sales meeting last week!! haha. taking it one day at a time and i know things will get better or at least more manageable! one thing i've realized, i'm not gaining this weight back and will work on being as healthy as i can. so whoever is going to be taking care of me when i'm old, it will be easier on them!! :-)

Tamikl, camaswa, patzi, Jen - you are all such an inspiration to me. Patzi - I admire you for continuing to journal your food. It's interesting how things can affect our bodies... mine is just a smidgy-bit bite of something off plan - usually a few almonds or something. I don't know if it's the water or not but it usually causes a stall or a gain for me.

Jen - I know I'm not on maintenance or stabilization yet... but I agree about stress. It has such a huge impact on me. When I'm stressed and lose sleep (even just an hour or so) my weight usually goes up as much as 2 or 3 pounds. Granted, it comes off after a period of rest, but it sucks. The thing that works the best for me is Zumba. I love the exercise and feeling energized with the class. Also, spending time getting lost in a good "chick flick" or scheduling a dinner date with my hubster usually snaps me out of it... I know work is stressful and alot of times it's something we can't escape, but we can try to leave it at work (the best we can) and do something awesome for yourself... just a thought.

Tonight is going to be a late night...one of those nights when I just have a lot that I need to take care of in the quiet of the sleeping house (mainly getting stuff ready for class tomorrow). Ususally this would be my time to nibble while I work and I knew I would struggle, so I made a quick trip to the store to get some sugar free jello...and was tempted to buy a bottle of wine, which of course goes well with chocolate...but alas, I was a good girl and stuck to the jello. Now for the long night ahead sans the not so good for me food and beverage options.

Hi ladies!

Had a great day...had my 10 yr. old daughter with me today at my WI because she had to miss school to see the Orthodontist. I was not only down 3 lbs from last week,:carrot: but got to sign the 50 lb board finally!:dancer: The best part?? My little girl, who has been my biggest fan, signed it for me :) I will treasure this memory forever!!:val1:

Just had to share...very exciting. Hit my goal and got the next menu for Stabilization all at the same time! LOL I also apparently won a "drawing" for a free HNS box of my choice! I never win anything!! Very cool...

Keep it up ladies...it is worth it. YOU are worth it!
