A bright and shiny new year means new opportunities to make the most of our lives - let's make 2012 a year of health by shedding some of those unwanted pounds!
The rules of our challenge are simple. We are here to provide each other some accountability along the path to weight loss, so just set a weight loss related goal(s) and I'll add it to our goal list for the month of January. When you reach your goal for the month it will be turned RED in our goal list!
We have a sister thread for exercise goals, http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chicks-up-challenge/249393-january-exercise-challenge.html, and all your exercise-related goals can be posted there; this thread is for weight loss goals specifically.
We love to hear about your success as well as your challenges throughout the month, so please share them with us. We're here to support and encourage each other to be our best.
I look forward to seeing all of you reach your January goals!

I'm aiming for 8lbs. this month. I think I can do more, but it's been a while, so I'm going to start with roughly 2lbs./week. So 8lbs. it is! I'm at 282.0 this morning, so 274.0 is what I'm looking for!

I'd like to share a little about my weight loss here for any new people who may be reading this forum as we begin the new year.
On January 18 of last year I began my weight loss journey. It wasn't a New Year's resolution, but in response to my doctor telling me that my weight was the reason I wasn't getting pregnant. I was 280 lbs at the time, I had no idea how to lose weight, and I was sure I would fail - but I had to try. Now, nearly a year later, I have lost more than 120 lbs and am less than 10 lbs from my original goal of being a healthy/normal weight! Despite some traumatic events this year I feel stronger physically, mentally and emotionally than I did a year ago, and I credit all of that to the changes I've made in my life that have enabled me to lose the weight. I feel more in control of my life, and losing the weight is far and away the best and most empowering thing I have ever done for myself.
If you are thinking that you'd like to lose weight but are unsure where or how to start, or even whether you'll be able to do it at all - join 3FC, join us here, speak up in a thread anywhere on this forum, or just get to reading. You will find tons of support and advice, and, perhaps most inspirational, stories from so many people who have lost weight and changed their lives. You CAN do it, and this forum is a great place to help you get started and support you along the way.
As for my goal this month - I'd like to get into the 140s. :D That seems like an unbelievably low number to me (I know I say that every month - but it's true every month!), and it may not be obtainable as I'll be on hormones again this month, but I am going to try for it regardless!
Good luck to everyone who joins the challenge this month! :)

I'd like to lose 8.6 lbs. this month. I was doing pretty well about a year and a half ago, then I switched jobs. I went from the physically demanding job of a zookeeper, to a teacher. I ended up gaining about 30 lbs in the past 1.5 years. This has led to me having more back problems than before, so I need to lose this weight to help my joints.

Hi...my January goal is to get to & Maintain 148# for @ least the last 2 weeks of January. In December I was a yo-yo between 148# - 152# depending on the salty & rich foods I ate :( I am 150# today. Beginning tomorrow "2012" I'm removing salty foods from my meals & using only 'Kosher salt'-which is healthier, in my salt shaker when salt is needed in recipes (the grains are larger which means we use Less & get the same flavor, I learned from a registered dietician)
Good Luck everyone :cheer3:

Yay for the New Year!
I am going to lose at least 12 lbs in January!
So looking forward to a great OP month!!
Chickadee-Hope the hormone treatments go well :) I am actually trying to lose 120 lbs myself so that my hubby and I can conceive and safely have a home delivery as the risk of an obese homebirth is too much. I'm so inspired by your story and can't WAIT to see the 140s myself. You've come this far, you can do it!!

Hi everyone! I host the monthly Exercise Challenge, but have never been on this half of the challenge. I've been bouncing into maintenance for several months and could use some support to turn that into more of an easy glide in 2012. My goal is to weigh 168 or lower at the end of January. (I weighed 169.2 this morning)

Whelp, as of this a.m. I'm still up one lb. from Christmas nomming so I want that off plus another 5 for a total of 6, which will put me at an even 160. Mr. Monk would approve of that number.

Hi chickadee32 and everybody. I'm back in for January. My goal is to be 154.9 pounds or less. Starting out at 162.9. While minimal, I did have a weight loss in December, so that has to be a good thing. I will escape the 160's this month!

RoadtoFifty: Thank you, and nice job avoiding a big gain over the holidays! I hope this is the year when you're able to break the loss/re-gain cycle and get where you really want to be. Taking control can be such a relief.
miniDoodles: I have switched to using kosher or sea salt exclusively as well! I LOVE salt and so probably still add way too much to my food, but hopefully the switch has mitigated a bit of the damage!
tavvy: Thank you, and I think that's an awesome and very motivating goal to shoot for! 2012 is going to be YOUR YEAR - I hope that by the end of it we'll be hearing about your pregnancy!! :D
gardenerjoy: Nice to see you here! It seems like you're doing really well at maintenance so far... you've been there for several months now, correct? Are you finding it tougher than losing, in general? I still have a ways to go, but am starting to think a bit about how to handle it... it seems like a buffer zone could be a good thing.
KimL: Yay for the New Year's whoosh! Of course, no problem at all changing your goal. :)
loose seal, Goldfrost, Live Laugh Love and LeslieB, welcome back! And ClaireBear and LIL'JJ, welcome to the group! I'm looking forward to seeing all of you reach your goals this month!!

chickadee32: maintenance is really no different than losing as far as what I need to do. The difference is finding new things to motivate myself besides the number on the scale. That's where I'm hoping this thread will help! I want to see if I can nudge the weight down a bit -- creating a buffer zone like you said.
It looks like everyone is off to a great start to the year!

I'm a believer in realistic goals, so my January goal will be to lose at least 6 lbs by 1/31.
I'd join an exercise challenge, but I'm officially a Zumba Instructor now, so I exercise at least 6 hours a week ;) I'm proof that you can't out-exercise poor nutrition. I'm definitely cutting down on the chocolate & fast food this month.

mystical: Congratulations on winning the contest at your gym! And way to go taking the steps to halt the gains before they take over - that's the way to do it. :) I hear you on being sick - I swear I spent most of the month of December either fighting bad colds or recovering from the side effects of some treatments. I hope January is a much healthier month for both of us!
gardenerjoy: That's what I'm worried about with maintenance - finding things to keep me going other than seeing the number go down on the scale! That's what gets me out of bed most days, lol. Congrats on doing so well so far!
brunette: Welcome to 3FC!! I hope you'll stick it out with us here! You can post your weight and updates as often as you like - totally up to you. I tend to do a lot of talking to myself on threads around this forum... posting frequently helps me to stay on track. :)
Koshinogi: Congrats to you for getting back here to get the job done! :D
ferretgirl: A great reminder for all of us re exercise and nutrition. :) I have kept losing through the holidays but have been eating much more poorly than usual on some days out of convenience (higher on fat and lower on nutrients), and I've got to knock it off! I don't just want to lose weight, I want to feel good as well.
bliss3244: Ooooo, I so want to see you win that contest!!! I am going to be paying close attention this month! :D

ItsMyTurn: Yay, so good to see you again!! You're going to do great this month. :D (And I wouldn't change my ticker either - you're going to blow right past it in the next few weeks anyway ;) )
tavvy: Woohoo, way to go! That's a pretty awesome start to the month!
RoadtoFifty: I'm just the furthest thing from a morning person that you can imagine, so getting on the scale to see a lower number gets me to stop hitting the snooze button! But you're right; I definitely need to learn to focus on more than just the number on the scale, as there is SO much more that is awesome about the weight loss than just the number. And  ok, I'll be there to tell you the same, but I kinda think that menopause is a legitimate reason to b*tch, regardless!

Susie - glad to hear the headache is getting better :)
RoadtoFifty - Body shock is not necessarily a bad thing, it means it still works :P
Chickadee - I am with you on the menapause complaints. Mine isn't full blown menapause, almost wish it were to get it out of the way, but peri-menapause is my curse. This year isn't as bad as last year though - at least this year the hot flashes are brought on by triggers, whereas last year they just spuratically happened because they wanted to. Monthly has lighter, but WAY unpredictable! I say.... complain away, but wait til you wake up a bit, :D
We are so going to nail our goals this month!!!! I have come <> this close too many times... not this month, not for the start of my new year... this month, we surpass those goals! :)

Hello again!
I wanted to update everybody on what I'm doing. Maybe it will help somebody else as well. So 2 things:
1) I'm Putting down my fork in between bites and counting 15 seconds between bites. I was skeptical when I first read this tip, but it really does make you leave some food on your plate.
2) I am eating vegetables with each meal. For example, with my breakfast I cut up some tomatoes and cucumbers and eat that before my meal. Then with my lunch I had a salad first, so I had only 1 piece of pizza afterward (I never stop at one, or 2 or even 3 lol). And I roasted some veggies in the oven to have before my dinner.
I'm not letting myself weigh in before Friday which is hard for me because I'm used to weighing in everyday :( But 2 more days and then we'll see. I am definitely eating healthier, and even if I don't lose weight, I know that at least I'm doing my body and my health good.
Good luck to all!!

KMme, welcome! I've added you below. :)
susie and gardenerjoy, awesome on the weight dropping so quickly this week! It's SUCH a nice feeling when that happens and you know it's because you're doing all the right things. :D
ItsMyTurn - I really feel for you! My poor mom started peri-menopause at 38, and she has suffered through hot flashes for 25 years now. I hope I take after my grandmother and never have them, but I have a feeling my mom's fate will be mine in a few short years - yikes! Kind of funny though - I was on some hormones recently for the fertility stuff, and they told me that the meds might make me have hot flashes... but I've been so freaking cold all the time lately (I think from the many months of calorie restriction) that the meds mostly just made me feel more comfortable, lol. I loved not having goosebumps at all for a few weeks! The night sweats were rather unpleasant though.
brunette and CANi, it sounds like you're both doing great! Keep it up!

Bones1928: My food plan, at this point, pulls everything together I've learned while losing into an exchange plan of my own invention. While I was losing, I switched things up every few months. I started with the government's food pyramid tools (taking into account that the meat and dairy lobby have too much power there) -- that's now been replaced by ChooseMyPlate.gov, and has the same caveat. Then, I did the DASH diet for awhile. Then the plan in the back of the book The Complete Beck Diet for Life by Judith Beck. And, finally, Richard Simmons' Food Mover. I guess I'm still using the last as a plan, but I don't need the tool anymore.
Day to day, following my food plan means that I eat what I planned last night. That's a big part of what Judith Beck advocates. Plan ahead. And, it's really made a difference for me. Especially with another piece of her program which is don't expect perfection!

Chickadee - My doctor said we usually follow our mother's pattern. I was astounded I was going through this so young, but he asked when mom did and I told him she started at 34... he said "yea, not that unusual for you to be within range"... ummm.. recount please?
I was feeling much better from the pain I have been experiencing last night, so decided I was going to go walk. My 2 oldest decided they wanted to go with me - my daughter on her bike, and my son on foot. Keep in mind, she is 15, and he is 18... motivation, craziness, and soreness are what they added to my adventure, My daughter says "look at Kevin go!"... so he was trying to show up the "old lady", so I picked up the pace... we ended up jogging most of it (real good with my RA, lol, not!) but I didn't let him show me up, LOL! Matter of fact when we got back he complained to my DH, LOL!!!! THAT is the way it should be ;) Hope everyone is having an awesome day!!!

Long time, no post! I'm hoping to be able to get back on here on a more regualr basis.
My goal this month is to lose 8 lbs. Hubby is doing it too with the same goal. I jsut went grocery shopping today (payday) and restocked all the good stuff...fruits, veggies, and lean meats.
I've gained 20+ lbs in the past year since I've gone back to work from being a stay at home mom. It's a huge challenge for me to balance everything, but I'm certainly gonna try and keep trying until I get back to my goal weight!

Sorry about the headache-aggravating post, RoadtoFifty. You aren't the first person to have that problem with my writing. I would put parentheses inside of parentheses if I could get away with it!
I may be ahead of you on that road to fifty -- I'll be there in five months and a few days. So, being young hasn't helped my quick start in January. Overeating in December contributed, though. :o I'm working on how to make that not happen next year. It helped me realize that it's easier to stay on plan than it is to get back on plan.

RoadtoFifty - comma deficiency... epic! Love it!!! As for the quirky weight, I have nothing to offer other than, the scale has been known to give us all a head-trip at one time or another...looks like this was your time.
I am proud that I have fought the cravings, I am staying on plan with nutrition, and since my pain level has been so much better, I am also totally on plan with my fitness! Yay! It's been awhile of fighting this to return to normal routine and loving it! :)

Roadtofifty- I am so glad I'm not the only one who has experienced the ghost fat. I've had that happen to me a couple of times. The first time resulted in a one sided argument with the scale. (Me: No scale you're wrong. That's not possible *points to physics text book* Scale: *sticks tongue out and adds a pound for spite*)
Loose seal- Hang in there. It'll come off eventually if you keep doing what needs to be done. In the meantime it sucks so feel free to vent.
I'm starting a bit late. My last weigh in was 207.2 lbs. So my goal for January is to lose 4 pounds. My next weigh in is this Sunday and considering that yesterday the scale said 208 and today it said 202 I have no idea what it will say Sunday.

But I'm hoping that track stays the same! :) I'm so glad to see everyone who's doing good, it's so motivating! Hey, Matilda and Delphi! I completely agree it's nice to see some familiar names on here. It makes me feel like I can get right back into things.
Quick version of where I've gone wrong...I started to regain weight after a cruise in 2010. I was able to hold fairly steady about 10 lbs or so above my goal until I started working. That's when it all went out the window...no time to plan, no time to exercise, etc. Now that I'm more used to working (huge change from 7 yrs as a SAHM), I'm making time to correct my behavior and get back to goal and maintain a more sustainable plan.
I started the month at 171.6 (EMBARASSING to admit after having been at goal). Today I weighed in at 169.2. I know it's nothing dramatic, but I didn't get back OP until basically 2 1/2 days ago, so I'm thrilled to be down about 2 1/2 lbs so far. I sat down yesterday and made a food plan for the next 2 weeks and that is KEY for me. So far so good!

MsP ~Those life changing events always seem to put a notch in our weight loss/maintenance plans. For me, it was when I lost Canaan. I guess, I just not so much stopped caring, just my focus was gone. Plus I went back to school and like you started working again after staying at home for so long. But sounds like we are both ready to get where we were and find the balance we both need. At least the guess work is gone this time though. We know exactly what to do, what to eat and how to enjoy the ride. All and all I gained back 40 pounds but when I saw myself hit the 200s again I finally said enough is enough and got back on the wagon. I never hit goal like you but dang near close and this time I'm gonna do it, distractions and all.

As far as I know, it's just the signatures. It looks like you found the bold button! You might also get a kick out of the Go Advanced button below the text box (next to Post Quick Reply). That's where all the fancy smilies are hiding.

Thanks, GardnerJoy! I'll have to look into these.

Well the scale is stubbornly not moving, despite being OP, despite exercising. Still up a lb. from my Christmas Eve weight.
There is no way I'm going to hit 160 by the end of January . . . 6 lbs. in 3 1/2 weeks ... I just don't see that happening. So I'm adjusting my January goal to 162. Four solid lbs. in 3 1/2 weeks.

Hello all..I've been perusing the site for quite some time, and today I finally registered. I've gained 80+lbs in a span of a couple of years, to begin with I was still at unhealthy weight of 200lb, but now I'm at 268, but what I would do to weigh 200lbs again! But in any case, for this month I'd like to aim for a loss of 10-15lbs.

269.4 this AM!!! only 1.4 away from monthly goal... At least I'll have a better idea of what I can do in future months, although I suspect that since this is my first week being really serious... that may be why I'm seeing such a big loss... I'll take it though!
Well I maintained this week (I weighed in yesterday morning). I decided to try just eating less and not counting calories, but that didn't work so well. So I'm going to start counting calories again, as that is what worked for me a few years ago. Will hopefully have time to clean off my treadmill today so that I can begin using it again. I want to get in the habit of walking at least 2 miles before work in the mornings (at least 3 days a week). Yesterday was my 25th birthday, so I kind of indulged a bit yesterday. My boyfriend and I went out to eat and then had cake that night with some finger foods (which were high calorie). My parents are taking me to Outback tonight, but I have a lower calorie meal that I love their and have already counted all my calories for the day. It's a good start to the new week!

OMG, I missed a boatload these past few days! I'm really excited to see everyone really participating this month though!
Ms P - It is SO GREAT to see you back!!! :) I wish the past year had been easier for you, but seeing your posts again is great. You have a lot of wisdom to offer to all of us here, and I'm so glad seeing the progress on the scale is getting you excited!! I added your goal for the month below. :)
Thinsole - I've got you on the list below too, and way to go on the 1.2! :)
RoadtoFifty - Weight values on the scale can be VERY weird and wacky sometimes, and I think especially so when it comes to water weight. I could be completely wrong (I often am!) but my guess would be that your body is trying to shed that extra water but is having a tough time just letting it all go. You see it briefly depart, and then *poof* the evidence is gone again. The lower number you saw on the scale this week, I would guess, is actually the more accurate reflection of the fat you've lost - and I'm confident you WILL see that lower number again once your body finally, finally decides to let go of the water for good. It can sometimes take a while to truly see your efforts reflected in the number, but when you are creating a calorie deficit through food intake and exercise you ARE earning that fat loss, no matter what the scale says.
brunette - Nice progress!!
tyedyegoddess - Glad it's coming off!! It's astounding sometimes how big the weight shifts can be when hormones are out of whack, isn't it??
this is for me - I've added you to the goal list below!
KimL - Fantastic job so far this month!
loose seal - I agree with tavvy, try not to get discouraged! I know how hard it is when you're doing everything right and the scale isn't moving (especially given the emphasis we place on the number here; i.e. "losing X pounds"), but as I said to RoadtoFifty above, you ARE earning fat loss even if you don't see if on the scale. I made the change to your goal below, but don't count yourself out on those 6 lbs yet. Every time I've stalled on the scale for a bit, I have seen it come off in a whoosh or a few whooshes later on. Sometimes it has taken weeks, but it has ALWAYS happened. You'll see things move at some point, I am certain, but I know the waiting can be really tough.
tavvy: NICE JOB!! :carrot:
Leslie: Great that you're finally seeing the movement! Have fun on vacation, and just keep active if you're eating a little more than usual!
ClaireBear: You seem right on target to hit your goal for the month!
ItsMyTurn - Woohoo, nice weigh in!! Almost back to that ticker!! My workout was good - I was totally beat by the time I was done.
stronger4me, Melokoton and 2012slimdown: Welcome, and I've added you to the goal list below!
Live Laugh Love: I know different things work best for different people, but I heart calorie counting! I am a numbers person, and being able to see exactly what I ate and KNOW I'm creating a sizeable deficit really helps to keep me energized. Glad you're getting back to it. :) And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :celebrate:
CANi - Holy cow, down 8 lbs in 8 days, and first of the group to hit your goal this month!!! Way to go!!! :cheer3: :cheer2: I made you RED below!! :D
As for me, the scale has been going in the wrong direction. I'm at 156.7 today, which is up from my low of 155.0 last Sunday, but at least down from my high of 158.5 this week. It's all water as I always, always have a calorie deficit, and there's nothing I can do except to continue to keep at it. I will go off the BCP for about 4 days at the end of this week before I start the hormone injections, and I'm hoping for a nice drop on the scale during that little window. We'll see, but either way I plan to fight through the end of the month with everything I've got. :)

I aimed for 8lb in December and ended up at 8.4, woohoo. This month I'm hating the trend-weight, though. I've gone down 5.5lb from January 3, but I only get to log 1.5 of them. I'm still aiming for a total January trend loss of 7lb, though.
I think I'm slipping into a little seasonal depression, because I haven't been getting out in the sunshine as much as I need to. I think my priority this week is to get my house in order on that front, and my life sort of "caught up" after the holiday rush. The weight will take care of itself, as it seems to do lately.

I'm planning to see a nice loss tomorrow after a good OP day and a nice exercise time this morning before work. I weighed in at 168.0 this morning after a little blip up from my weird food day yesterday.
So, I did okay at the church potluck. I had a small bowl of my venison chili, a few samplings of other dishes and then a couple samplings of desserts. I kept it to 1 plate (including the chili bowl on my plate) and didn't feel overfull so we'll call it a success.
As far as supper which my son thoughtfully prepared was scrambled eggs and a slice of low cal toast. (He asked what we wanted and I told him to make it something that wasn't unhealthy. He's such a sweet boy!) He did also attempt a dessert which was a chocolate rice cake with some homemade "frosting" and blueberries on top. It would rank among the strangest desserts I've eaten in recent memory, but it was a nice try.
The cool part of the day was that my whole family went to the school gym and played basketball together for an hour in the afternoon. It felt great to work off the potluck food and get some fun family time!

Hi all! I was really happy that I lost 4 lbs last week. I fell off the wagon a little so I was scared of what I'd find this morning! It's not what I hoped for, but I didn't do what I should have to get what I hoped for. Either way, 4 lbs is a lot to someone who's never lost that much in a week!

CANi - I am sure the working out will help out a bunch with the water... not to mention just make you feel better being able to do it :) I know when my medical prevents me from my workouts for more than a couple days - I start to get a bit "grouchy" and have withdrawals
dandk - Can't believe how much you have lost girl! That's awesome! You are 2/3 of the way to your goal already! Fabulous! Keep the momentum going!
flourless - Is a tanning session an option for you? I have a friend here, that when monsoon hits and we don't have our normal sun, she has to do that and it seems to pick her mood right up :) You are doing great on your loss too, another something to feel good about :D
ClaireBear - You are totally kicking your weight loss!!! Great job!
loose seal - Did someone say cake? Excellent job staying on your plan in both aspects. That truly is our key to success right there... staying on what we plan and insuring we "feel" good. The pants fitting good is always a great sign too!
CaliforniaDreamer - Wow! Holy pounds shed! I have no doubt you can reach your goal!
Ms Perception - It sounds like you did super at the pot luck! Keeping everything to one plate at the potlucks my church has is near impossible... we all have such different cooking styles that I like to try it all, Big pat on the back for you from me!!!! How fun to play basketball with the familY!!!!
tyedye - 4 lbs is a lot no matter how you slice it or reason it! That's great. Keep moving forward! We all fall off the wagon - it happens... the difference to success comes in how you pick yourself up and hop back on though ;)
I have been able to keep going forward with my fitness along with my nutrition... SOOOOO glad the medical crap has taken a break and allowed me to just be active again for a while!!!! Oh how I missed it! It truly does make a world of difference with how I feel overall: body, emotions, etc. Oh, and a total NSV I would like to share if you all don't mind: the other day I went to put on a pair of work pants and had to roll waist to make them stay up... figured maybe they just got stretched... then yesterday, another pair... same thing. So I figured, well, the teens have been doing the laundry, so maybe they aren't drying well? But it clicked... today... pair #3, and I had to roll 4 TIMES! My elastic belt is not against me and is just decoration at this point too!!! This means, even though this plateau of 188 and higher has been holding for so long, I AM losing inches! Totally happy jigged all the way to the car this morning

While seeing the numbers on the scale go down is always a guaranteed boost I get even more excited when I put on an article of clothing that was uncomfortably tight only to find it to be loosey-goosy on me. It's so . . . tangible. Even if the scale isn't budging (like it wasn't with me), something is going right if the clothes are fitting better. Keep up the good work!

Or this is the first look you wanted? I just bought my house a year ago yesterday, and have yet to get paint on all the walls yet. In my defense though, it's a huge house and that's a TON of work. We have over 3400 sq ft and cathedral ceilings... our half bath took all day to do! I tried to find painting on MFP - nothing, My MFP name is StarIsMoving if you would like to add me :)
Gold - I think we all have that struggle when we break from it... how's the saying go??? A body in motion tends to stay in motion..whereas a body at rest tends to stay at rest. What you have to do is get the start up of inertia going and then you will be *brace yourself for a play on words* "Gold"en

Loose Seal,
That is a great idea! I am glad that my words gave you motivation. I am so honored. :o
Also keep in mind how close you are to where you want to me. I don't know how many times that I have been that close and started getting the big head. And you know what happens then? You gain it back. It is so frustrating! So, just hang in there and remember that you could be like me with over 100 pounds to lose again and turning 50 next year. *sigh* I checked the other day and at least I am out of the "morbidly obese" range to just the "obese" range. Little victories. LOL

BTDT with the losing/gaining/losing/gaining back to losing again. <sigh> Yeah the big head thing . . . that's exactly it. I get so far then think 'oh hey, I can deviate, I can slack off, it's ok.' And a for a bit I can get away with it. But then . . . . up, up, up the weight goes each and every time. You'd think we'd learn, huh? lol
We have to hang in there and when we get to a certain comfort level keep looking at that pretty little ring that says 'faith' and know that we can't get lax because we're not quite done yet.
Oh and that turning 50 thing? Piece of cake. It's just a number . . . don't let it have any more power than that.

Had another good OP day with several temptations avoided...amazing! Last night at the school we ate at a fundraiser "tailgate party" with all the typical summer picnic-type foods. I did eat a brat, beans, cold salad and dessert. Again I kept the portions small, well except the brat, I just ate the whole thing. Anyway, after the bball game we came home, I got the kids in bed and I stuck in a workout dvd and did an hour of exercise. This morning I was up .2, but I was okay with that. It means I did a decent job of balancing food and activity. It helps that I kept my calories at lunch and breakfast on the low side to accomodate what I knew would be a higher cal meal at supper.
I know I've only shared victories on here so far, but they've been few and far between lately, so I'm excited to get back to a healthier mindset.
I'm so on board with you ladies who've mentioned getting close to goal or whatever then getting cocky about it and gaining weight back. I hadn't thought about it quite like that but that's absolutely what I've done. Another reson why this site helps me so much. You ladies understand what I'm doing/have done and can often relate so well. Thanks to you all!!

dandk, ClairBear, CaliforniaDreaming, tyedye, ferretgirl: GREAT losses last week!! Keep it up!
flourless: The short days really get to me this time of year too. I think I need to make an effort to get out more during the day to absorb some of the sunshine.
MsP: It's so nice that your son prepared a good, healthy meal for you. I need to teach my husband how to cook something other than spaghetti, lol. Glad you had such an enjoyable Sunday with your family. :) And I think it sounds like you did great yesterday in a situation that could have involved a lot of overeating... I'm glad you're sharing your victories here, because they are definitely worth celebrating! Every good decision helps, you know?
ItsMyTurn: Awesome NSV!! Time to go shopping! :D
RoadToFifty: This is absolutely the place to come when you need to vent and get it out - it's what we're here for, to listen and encourage and cheer each other on! And thank you for the good thoughts on the treatments; I really appreciate it. I will definitely be feeling the stress in another week or so, and you all are sure to hear about it here.
loose seal: I love the idea of the ring. My boss, who is a good friend and one of the few people IRL with whom I discuss my fertility issues, gave me a little silver box at the holidays that I love. On the front it says "wishes", and on the inside it says "do come true". I keep it next to my desk at work and get teary-eyed every time I look at it. It keeps me hopeful that things will eventually work out.
Goldfrost: I struggle sometimes with wanting to exercise too, and what seems to help me at times is setting a very specific goal on a short time frame. Mine right now is targeting an average daily calorie deficit of AT LEAST 889 calories (not as random of a number as it seems, lol, it came from a bunch of calculations :dizzy:) - and to hit that calorie deficit I either have to exercise or eat below my 1200 minimum calories. Having that to focus on every day has been helping me to get out there and do it. Can you set a short-term goal something like that to help with the motivation?
I'm heading out of town for the weekend tomorrow (we're doing a late Christmas with my family since we couldn't travel over the holidays), and it's going to be a challenge to eat well all weekend since most meals will be out! I've got my Fiber One bars though and know where the nearest Subway is, so I plan to stay on track with my calories as much as possible. Will be checking in here when I'm able, but have a great weekend, all!

RoadtoFifty - You did great adding me, it went through no problem :) Holy painting through it all again? That's a ton of painting to do! I am into earth tones and "reminiscent" tones of the old times. So we have everything from a deep tannish color in the halls to a bold classic burgundy in our bedroom... all over the spectrum, Great job sliding out of one category!!!! A loss is a loss, is a loss!!!! Love progress!!!
Ms Perception - I love hearing about your victories! If everything is a victory right now, then it will help lend you the confidence to get through your next trial.... that is not a bad thing :) You totally OWN those victories ;)
Chickadee - I can't "shop" much as of yet... Christmas for 3 teens and I am the only source of income, so have to make when I have work for now and add one thing at a time. When my parents come in May, my father is giving me and my mom some money to go get clothing though as a reward for all our hard work reshaping :) I sure hope you have fun on your weekend!!!! I am sure you will do wonderfully, sounds like you are already planning ahead and that's half the battle!

Hit 165.8 today, so that's more progress toward my goal. I had to adjust my food plan to accomodate my parents coming over for lunch. I made a new recipe and I'm about to go on Sparkrecipes to see what the cals/serving are for sure. I was guesstimating based on the recipe and the changes I made to it. Still I think I'm pretty good for calories today.
I will be doing one of my walking dvds once I let supper settle in my stomach and get my calories all added up for the day. If I'm a little on the high side, I'll throw in a little weights or something extra too!

Welcome, GetSkinnyWithMe! I did exercise videos filmed in Hawaii today while watching it snow outside of my window.
I had a couple of bad days and haven't weighed myself for a few days -- that's always a bad sign. I usually do best when I'm weighing every day. Things got better today when I did those exercise videos. I want to remember that for next time -- hula and yoga make me feel better!

Well the week has been a slow one for me but completely on plan! Just higher calorie days. Every few weeks I up my daily calories just to shake things up a bit..but I feel so guilty during these periods as I know I am not getting the daily deficits I need when calories are lower. In any case, it works and keeps my body on its toes.

roadtofitty ~ You know, I do the gum thing. Gum and ice chips really, all night while I'm working. It helps sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I try not to deprive myself of some of my guilty pleasures. Usually on a Friday or Saturday I will work the calories for something completely unhealthy for me and guilt free. Cravings tend to hit us hard sometimes and the times when i do give in, I make sure my butt is making up those calories on the elliptical that same day..
Well as for me, it was a maintenance week for me last week. I do that from time to time just to not feel so deprived and it is really good for the metabolism as well. But this week will be about scoring those big deficits so I can get moving on this weight loss thing. Gotta get HOT before my vacation the first week of July. Can't hit the beach in a moomoo now can I?

I lost 2 lbs last week, In total I've lost 6 lbs. So I have 7 lbs to lose until I reach my goal of 13 lbs.
I still ate poorly last week (fast food/rich foods/too much snacking), so a gain is not unexpected. Need to double my efforts and eat right to support the exercise. Three more "official" weekly weigh-ins for this month, so there's still time to straighten out.
Good job to everyone!! I see lots of ladies hitting their goals and mini-goals.. that's awesome :)

Hi all, hope you don't mind me jumping in this late in the month....I was pretty active on here a few years ago, and this thread was totally my motivation to keep on track! I lost over a hundred pounds and have eventually gained about 1/2 of it back. Started today getting back on the wagon and am turning back to 3FC, as I know it was such a huge part of my loss before!
1. Since it is already the 17th, I am not planning on any big numbers this month. Instead of weight, I have a pair of snow pants I want to fit into by the end of the month when we go snowshoeing. So that is my goal!
My OP this month includes staying with my diet (lots of veggies, fruit, nf yogurt, beans, etc), no eating after 8, lots of water, remembering to take my vitamins, and working out 6 days a week.
At least 3 days of the week I plan on doing 2 1/2 miles on the treadmill. 1/2 running and 1/2 walking. The other 3 days will be a mix of WII, work out videos, etc. At least an hour on those days. Between my treadmill and my pedometer, I want to reach at least 50 miles this month.
I plan to check in every day! I need the accountability right now, as I have been planning to "start dieting" again for about 1 1/2 years now. Hasn't worked so well for me so far! I last a day or a week, and then relapse, but I am really serious this time. Which is why I am back on 3FC!!!!
Today went good. 1275 calories, and according to Fitday, my 40 minutes on the treadmill equals about 325 calories used. I didn't drink enough water today, so need to focus on that tomorrow. Also need to watch my carb/fat vs protein. Didn't really get very much protein today (I'm a vegetarian who is avoiding soy, so kinda hard). So fixing that is my goal tomorrow!

Jessica - :welcome: It sounds like you have a full plan straight out of the gate, good for you! When I started, I had to make small changes at a time... so to see someone so put together in plan is awesome. The best part, is that it's totally sustainable and a sure plan for success :) I love this site for staying accountable, and the support in the 3FC forum is spectacular - I have met some awesome people here... with that being said, I also log and keep accountable with fitness and nutrition logs through MyFitnessPal and a lot of folks from here use that site too (which is how I discovered it). If you decide to do so, you can friend me there, screen name StarIsMoving. I like it cause I can watch things like carb intake (wow, never knew I was a carb-lover til that, lol) and such :) Good luck to you on your mission... what a great goal to have for the first one!!!! :cheer: I think you will do it no problem!

ItsMyTurn -- thanks! Is Myfitnessplace better than fitday? I started an account there and have been entering all my info, which is when I realized how high my carbs are, even when I thought I was eating pretty healthy. But I don't know how to link to other people at fitday, so if I can do it at your site and link to friends that would be great!
RoadtoFifty--thanks! I've been beating myself over gaining weight back, but I guess I should think of it your way! Much more positive outlook, lol.
NightAngel26--welcome! 5 pounds sounds totally doable! Especially after the TOM woosh:)
Chickadee32 -- thanks! I'm usually shy around the camera, but if we do get some pics I'll post. Besides I need to get unshy again so I can have some photos for my future onederland photo journey!
Thanks Delphi -- and congrats!
Did okay today -- 1200 calories and 1/2 hour exercise (1 mile running, 1 mile walking). But I forgot my vitamins and also pretty high on carbs/fat vs protein. Wondering if perhaps I need to start protein shakes, or maybe give up vegetarianism and try some fish/chicken. Plan on figuring that all in the next couple of days...
TOM has arrived, so feeling pretty proud of all the temptations I avoided today! Almost pulled into driveby coffee places twice for a blended chai, but resisted. If I can adjust my carb/fat intake tomorrow, I'll be set!

Hey all! I've been keepin' busy this week, so wasn't on here to keep up on everything. A huge CONGRATS to those who've made their goal already and to all those who've mde such excellent progress. I hit my goal [163.6] on the nose today, but I'm calling it a "soft" victory since I know we're having pizza tonight (It is National Pizza Week, after all ;) ) which is likely to result in a little gain tomorrow. We'll call it a win if I call still be at my goal weight Sunday.
I have been a little less OP this week. Monday my girls asked me to make choc chip cookie bars for an evening function they were going to. We all baked them together which was a lot of fun and I didn't eat any dough or even lick a beater. I did however indulge in several cookie bars when they were done....you know, quality control and all. Anyway, I then baked banana bread later that same night to use some very ripe bananas. I sent one loaf in with my youngest for her class' snack time, but the other loaf was enjoyed by the whole family including me. There's no harm in these treats in general, but they were not in my food plan. I did do some extra workout time to counteract my indulgances, but the early part of the week was pretty uneventful on the scale.
My weight stayed the same all week (within a few tenths) until this morning. I was so OP yesterday partly out of frustration with the scale and partly because there's nothing really tempting in the house right now. It'll be grocery day Saturday, so I'm already ready to restock my good healthy stuff and keep moving in the right direction so I can finish the month strong!

Jessica - I found fitday harder to navigate - then again, it may have been just my ADHD brain, lol - I also tried another site Sparkspeople, and same thing... love MyFitnessPal though. Great job on the exercise and resisting temptations!!!!

As for me - Worked out on the elliptical last night. I did the 25 min workout on the preset program: lower body, Cardio Blast... then after, did another 10 mins going in reverse.. work a different set of muscles and kept my sweat on longer :) Hoping to get in something tonight too!

Chickadee- Thanks for adding me in! I'm waiting a bit to go back to the gym but def envy those of you exercising regularly! Also, good to see you again, you've definitely done an amazing job!
Delphi- I want to get some taxes too! I know how you feel....only I've had 4 jobs this year so I'll be waiting a while I bet!
brunette- hey don't feel bad for one day, at least you're willing to work it off! :carrot: Do you find it hard to weigh in or do you get the urge to step on the scale? I used to do it every day so I get impulsive but am trying to do once a week...
Jessicado-hey thanks for the support...I think I might be able to meet goal....even this late. I know what you mean about drive by drinks...totally wanted a coolatta today  keep up the good work!
Jester- I'm going to check out that site....myfitnesspal...I might have checked it out before...I used to use fitday....but have fallen off of tracking for a long time now....do you use for tracking more or for interacting w people?
Ms Perception- long time no chat...I remember you....the choc chip bars were calling huh? yeah we gotta make something for a bake sale at the school too....might have to pray for me! :dizzy: Do you have more or less trouble on grocery day? I find it's harder not to buy the interesting things....
ItsMyTurn- wow special mention for going backward on the elliptical...I've seen people do it and I think I'd fall off! :carrot: :cb:

Hiya ladies!
Again today my carbs were really high and although I did better with my fat and protein ratio...my protein was still much lower than I want...so gonna have to check out protein shakes or start eating meat. The funny thing is even though I don't mind eating free range meat, I've been a vegetarian for so long (17+ yrs) that when I tried eating meat a few months ago, the texture grossed me out. Weird I know....
I did sorta bad today diet wise, so that is part of the issue. Went out to eat and I had a portabella sandwich (which was the healthiest thing I could find on the menu). Got home and realized it was around 700 calories after I tried figuring out all the specifics. Also had a glass of lemonade...wasn't until after I ordered it I realized the error of my ways. Guess I could have chosen not to drink it at that point...but I didn't! Still overall about 1600 calories today, which could have been much worse...
Spent 40 minutes on my treadmill (1 1/2 miles ran, 1 1/4 miles walked). So not horrible in the long run today. All I can do is learn and plan to do better tomorrow!
Jester--thanks! If both you and ItsMyTurn like MyFitnessPlan, I guess I'll have to go check it out then! Too tired tonight (just finished my workout, lol) but hopefully tomorrow. :)
NightAngel26 -- Ha, I totally hear you about obsessively weighing. I have to resist too...although it helps that it is TOM right now, so I don't even want to look at the scale ;)

jessicado22: do you want some book recommendations for diet plans that are friendly to vegetarians? I'm sure I could come up with some but I'd have to look through some notes. I hate to see someone forcing themselves to eat meat even though I'm an omnivore!
Yay for the loss RoadtoFifty! Are you keeping a log of your perimenopause symptoms? My ob/gyn suggested that and for some reason it makes me feel better about things. Just noticing what changes over time and that some times are better than others. Plus, when I finally do go a year without a period, I'll know that I did because I will have logged the last one.
I had a very good day yesterday even though it defied my best attempts at planning. And had a nice drop on the scale this morning to reflect my effort!
Almost there :) Hope everybody else is on track with their goals!!

So I got on the scale yesterday morning and this morning and both days read that I've lost 2 lbs. this week. Really? It's also TOM and I'm nothing short of shocked that the scale even moved. This morning I literally moved the scale all around the bathroom and kept getting on and off of it because I thought it was broken or something. :dizzy:
Here's something I've noticed . . . eating well and not eating junk? I don't feel nearly as bloated as I normally do during TOM. Even my rings feel 'normal'. That just never happens. And I've been off plan as far as water intake goes . . . just being dopey or something but I know I'm not drinking as much as I probably should be.
I'm not changing my ticker or anything until tomorrow . . . because I still think it's a fluke or something . . . but if the number sticks? I'mma going for my original goal of 160 by the end of the month!
Congrats on all the losses . . . RtF whoo hoo!, brunette and ms. p -- you're there I swear! -- and everyone else who's met, or are close to, goal! Let's just keep OP and know that sooner or later it will move that scale down, down, down.

Quick drive by again, only .5 from goal!! I'm really gonna push to try to be out 250s by the first but don't want to change my goal and get discouraged of it doesn't happen! Haven't measured but have to go get some smaller shirts tomorrow! Half of mine are so big they advertise my bra far too much!

NightAngel - I like to work the glutes going backwards on elliptical :) I can't put the RPMs up as high as the footing seems more awkward, but do need a balanced work through :)
Jessicado - Sorry to hear of the struggle to get the macros balanced out... I know that without the help of my nutritionist I don't think I would have been able to with mine as quickly - dang things, Way to go on the workout though!!! And yes, love MyFitnessPal (MFP).. for logging and for interaction :)
RoadToFifty - Way to go on your loss!!!! You are totally owning this!!! As for the elliptical, I am always trying to find a way to work as many muscles into my cardio as I can... it just seemed the right next move :) I use all the muscles on strength training... but honestly in cardio is where they can get some heat working through them to "lean" them a bit and stretch the tendons and such... so I need to have that portion to feel "right" :) I know... a bit OCD, but... so far it's all working
gardener - Great job on the loss!!! It's always nice when you can see a reward for the work you do!!!
Brunette - You are SO CLOSE to your month goal! Way to go!!!
Loose seal - Congrats on the loss! I am betting it won't show and you can change ticker! Great job!!!
tavvy - you are so close!!!! You got this!
As for me - talked to my mom last night and she is at a stand still too. We have both decided to "up" our cadio this week... either intensity or amount - either would work. As for me - I also have to up my water intake. I was being very deliberate before, but the last couple weeks have only been drinking when thirsty - not working for me. Pedal to the medal! :)

Hey ladies,
quick post as today has been nonstop go. Will check in with everyone tomorrow! No exercise today and even though I felt like I ate enough today, when I sat down and figured out my calories -- it was only a little over 900. So now I don't feel bad about not exercising, and will have to eat a little more tomorrow to average things out! Did get more protein today too, so feel a little better about that. Anyways, will check in better tomorrow -- hope everyone else is doing good!

I've been MIA because I've been binging again
Woke up this morning and decided to face the music...I weighed myself....
and nearly fell of the scale - 271.4 lbs :o That's my highest weight in over 15 years. I'm actually shocked - and that saying something because it takes a lot to shock me.
I'm struggling to get back on my program today. I need to change my monthly goal to 265.0 lbs. - instead of "loose 10 lbs."
Hope everyone has a terrific day! I sure am going to try to make the most of mine :)

Susie -- oh how I've been there before! It's sooo freakin' hard to just get back into it, isn't it? For me I've found that just literally taking it one day at a time . . . just telling myself that just for today I'll stick to xxx and just do it ... helps a lot. Also when I've been binging and the weight is up it takes me at least 2 weeks before I even see any type of payoff and longer to 'feel' it. Even though I know that sticking to it does owrk, does pay off . . . it's that mental thing that gets me. If I can get my mind in the game that's more than half the battle.
You can do this . . . just for today make a plan and stick to it. Come back and post, even the bad stuff, and talk to others . . . I find that it helps me to keep on track.

Hey ladies,
well -- you've convinced me to join myfitnesspal, and you are so right -- it is WAY better than fitday! I transferred over my info from fitday, and so much of the food items that I had to enter nutrition info manually for on fitday were already available on myfitnesspal...will make things so much easier! I added you ItsMyTurn :)
ItsMyTurn--hope the extra workouts help! And water....I am in the same boat. It really does make such a difference in weight loss!
RoadtoFifity: Congrats on your loss! And thanks for the advice about my calories. I think I must have the most horrible metabolism ever or something...when I first started trying to lose weight, I dropped to 1500 and over the course of a few months, only saw about a 1/2 lb a week. When I started really working out, I still only saw about 1 pound a week. I know that a pound is better than nothing, but when I was working out for a few hours a day...it was just so hard to stay motivated. It wasn't until I dropped to 1200 that I really started to see results. So now I try to keep it around 1200 - 1500. And then every few weeks I try to throw in a 2000 cal day just to spice things up. And reward myself, lol. SO I really appreciate the concern and totally understand what you are trying to say! I am actually taking it easy right (by my old standards) now by only working out for 30-40 minutes. Figured although I want to lose weight, I don't need to lose it all overnight, so I sat down and figured out my goals, weight to lose, etc and figured if I can lose about 12 pounds a month I will be ecstatic. I know 12 pounds a month is high to some people, but I figure at my weight it is doable. Plus I have a freaking wedding dress I need to wear this summer! I bought it two years ago and now I can't fit into it. Even closely. We're finally setting a day... (been engaged for about 5 years now), and I really, really, really want to fit into it.
Gardenerjoy--thanks for the offer. I actually debated it out, and then decided to order some protein shake powder. Protein didn't used to be an issue even though I'm vegetarian, because I used to eat so many soy products. But since I cut out soy, it is a lot harder to do. I don't mind a little soy, but I need to avoid large quantities of it. So anyways, the protein powder got really good reviews, is mostly soy free and is sweetened with stevia, so I'll give it a go! Also went to the store today and forced myself to buy a bunch of premade food (Lean Cuisine, Amy's, etc) that was in my calorie range. I never buy premade food, and then when I get hungry and don't feel like cooking or am in a hurry -- so easy to turn to pizza or whatnot. I also found some really neat protein bars today so I can bring them with me when I am on the go too. So hopefully that will all help!
Anyways, congrats on your loss (got kinda sidetracked on the protein, lol).
Loose Seal -- congrats on your loss too! I completely agree about sticking to it and one day at a time. I have the tendency to binge, and then figure well -- I already cheated. One more time won't hurt before I go back on plan...and then that continues until I have gained 50 pounds. So realizing that and sticking to it one day at a time really works.
Tavvy -- congrats!! Being under 250 is such a milestone and you're so close! You can totally do it:)
SusieMartin -- Binging happens to everyone, but you've made the first step of getting back on here! I've been MIA for two years, lol - so I know what I'm talking about sad to say! So much easier to stay motivated with support:)
As for me...not much new. I can fit into the snow pants (yay) and I dropped a few pounds since last weigh in....however I am incredibly bummed after today. Realized that the snow pants weren't insulated and I would need to be able to fit a few layers underneath. That isn't going to happen by next week, so went out shopping today looking for snow pants. Went to about 5 stores who didn't carry 2X pants (one store didn't even carry anything above a large....how snobby!!!!!), and then the pair I found at Cabella's that were a 2X didn't fit. Found a pair at REI that did fit (yay), but are $110 (boo). I just had gallbladder surgery last month, without insurance, and am now about $80 grand in debt...so hard to justify spending that much on a pair of pants I'll wear once when I have so many doctors I owe money too. But out of options otherwise...we already have our reservations and I can't really go pantsless! It was just so depressing to go to all of those stores and not find anything in my size, and then have the few things I did try be too small. my fiance even brought me a man's 3X and I felt so embarrassed telling him the butt was still too small. I have a really big butt, and men's pants never fit, unless the waist is completely huge. So I have to stick to women's clothing that is actually made for someone with a rear. Anyways, I'm rambling! I guess overall, I should be happy I at least found a pair that did fit finally, and I am a few pounds lighter and back on track:)

Jester: Recording my food intake religiously has helped me enormously - it forces me to be completely honest with myself. I think it's awesome that you joined myfitnesspal, and you're doing a fantastic job this month! I can't wait to see you reach your monthly goal this week!! :D
MsP: CONGRATULATIONS on hitting your January goal!!!! :carrot: I made you RED below!! Post-pizza party, I know you can keep it off through the end of the month. :)
NightAngel: Thank you! It's good to see you again too. :) It can be tough to get into a regular exercise routine, but in the meantime maybe just try adding in little bits of additional activity where you can. I love seeing the additional calorie burn I get just from making an extra stop at the grocery store, or spending all evening catching up on the laundry, etc. Every little bit helps!
jessica: You met your goal this month!!! :carrot: Be super proud of that! You are RED below! You're doing a great job, and I'm so impressed by your commitment to making changes to lose the weight. On the snowpants issue - I know exactly what you mean about the frustration of not being able to find ones the fit, and how much it sucks to spend a boatload of money on something you're only going to wear once! But I might have a solution. :D When do you have the event you'll be wearing them to? I still have a pair that I bought to wear skiing before I began losing weight, and I'd be more than happy to mail them to you. They are black, Columbia brand size 2X and are insulated - I just wore a pair of long underwear beneath them. If they fit, you could take back the pair that you bought and save yourself the $$! I only wore them a few times in a single week, and the same with the long underwear if you're interested in those as well (black, Duofold size XL, and they were tight but they're meant to be and they stretch a lot). If you're interested, just send me a message with your address and I'll put them in the mail to you. If they don't fit, you can just donate them (that's what I was going to do with them, I just hadn't gotten around to it yet). Let me know!
brunette: SO CLOSE!! I can't wait to see your next weigh-in! :D
loose seal: WAY TO GO!!!!!! I am THRILLED for you, and turned you RED below!!! :carrot: And I love reading that you're feeling so much better this cycle because of the better eating - these are the benefits to what we're doing to achieve the weight loss that can't be tracked on a scale, and they contribute to the motivation to continue these healthy changes. I LOVE feeling better when I'm eating better - I swear it makes such a difference in my quality of life.
RoadtoFifty: NICE loss this week, on top of already hitting your goal! And thank you very much for the support. The stall was definitely due to the BCP I had started as part of the current IVF cycle - I've had to go on and off BCP several times over the past six months, and each time I've started it I have seen a multi-week stall. Pretty predictable though - I took the last BCP on Saturday night, and on Thursday my weight began dropping, and I've shed more than 5 lbs now since the beginning of the week. I'm still holding on to about 2.5 lbs of water I think (by my tracking numbers), but it's nice to finally see my efforts showing up! Even though I know the reason I stall, it still frustrates me sometimes.
tavvy: YAY!!!!!! Congratulations on hitting your goal!! :carrot: Holy cow, everyone is doing an amazing job this month - I am so proud of you and everyone else who is really fighting to realize their goals! I have turned you RED below. :D We'll be rooting for the 240s for you!!
ItsMyTurn: I am with you and loose seal on needing to up my water intake again. Some days I've been good, but other days I've really slacked on that front. I'm going to pledge to really focus on it this week.
susie: It can be such a struggle to change our behaviors and treat ourselves the way we know we should. I know you can do this, and we are here to listen and do what we can to help. Good for you for getting on the scale and getting back here to keep fighting.

Man am I behind. Well TOM hit today so I'm up a few pounds and seeing as I do not level off until nearly a week afterwards, I do not know if I will hit my goal for the month. Really, I'm good though. I have had a steady loss and regardless what Darth Scale says, I'm proud of the progress. I will try to keep up better with this thread so i do not get so far behind. Hiya ladies, another quick checkin since I've been on the road since yesterday. Did really good until today when I ordered some eggplant at a restaurant I hadn't been too in a few years, thinking from memory it was just plain eggplant in sauce, and got back into the car to realize it was deep fried eggplant in sauce. So crap. Ate it anyways (but skipped the white rice it came with) and am skipping dinner (it was a really late lunch to begin with) and hoping I didn't go too much over calorie wise. Back on track tomorrow! So much easier at home....
Hope everyone else is doing great :)

RoadtoFifty - I really like daily weighing, even when I don't like the number I see on the scale. I think watching and tracking daily weights can be really useful in helping to understand your own personal weight loss patterns. It helps to keep me from getting too frustrated when the scale is up - if I can understand why, then I can look forward to getting past it. I hope it's helpful for you this cycle!
ItsMyTurn - I am really rooting for you this month!!! I know you're working for it day in and day out, it's just so hard to get our bodies to cooperate sometimes!
Matilda - Great job!!
Delphi - Your attitude is a great one. :) You know that weight will come off when it normally does, and so it's very worth it to keep at it in the meantime. I am like ItsMyTurn - there have been a LOT of months when I haven't met my goal, despite setting a reasonable one and working my tail off to get there. It's continuing to fight that counts the most! :)
Well, I think I spoke too soon on the water finally dropping off. The scale went down and hit a low on Sunday, but I've been giving myself estrogen injections and now it seems to be going back up! :dizzy: It's frustrating as I should have hit my goal already this month (according to my food log and bodybugg numbers), and yet the scale this morning showed a net loss of 0.9 lbs so far this month. Awesome. Oh well, it is what it is and I can't control it, all I can do is keep going!

Hiya ladies! Finally some time for a real check in. Spent two days at my parents, and then yesterday trying to play catchup.
Yesterday was SO HARD diet wise. I think it is because I had that fried eggplant the day before, it must have set off my cravings. I felt myself starting to quit....I'd go to the kitchen with intentions of leaving with something not good...but then I compromised and had airpopped popcorn instead. Sure, a little carb heavy -- but not the same as pizza or ice cream! Then when it got really bad, I went to myfitnessplan and entered all my info. At the end of the day it was 1650 calories (which works just fine for me with how I was feeling!), and then I went for a run on the treadmill. Felt so much better afterwards and back on track. Being gone for those two days I didn't get a chance to go do my normal exercise routine, and it is so easy for me to lose routine and motivation! So feeling MUCH better today, and I can already tell the cravings aren't as bad today. Amazing how that works -- avoid crappy food and you don't want it as much!
chickadee32 -- thanks so much for the motivation (is nice to see my name in red after so long!), and for the snow pants! I am so excited! I am going on a snowshoeing trip to Crater Lake for a few days with the Wounded Warrior Project (my fiance is an OIF vet). A little nervous I won't be able to keep up on the treck...but figure I'll fake it till I make it:) As long as we don't go up hills, I should be fine, lol. But having nice pants to wear is already making me feel way less stressed!!! I was actually considering not going at one point, so thanks again
Congrats to everyone else who made their goals too! Woohoo!
Matilda08 and susiemartin -- WTG on the loss!
Itsmyturn -- I'm in the upping water boat too. In fact seeing your post reminded me to go fill up my water bottle! Support is awesome and the more the better!

chickadee - I sure appreciate having you in my cheering corner :) The sad part is I am not far away from the goal, but for me it seems to always leave me short, I think your scale going back up is simply a companion of the estrogen?
susie - Great job!
Jessica - I too could use all the support I can get :) Which is why I offer it up so freely - if I get even a percentage of it back, I will be in good shape :P How is your water going today? My stalled out a bit around noon, so trying to shove it to me now. My DD is in surgery right now and my DH emailed me that were a couple complications.... the worry made it so I totally forgot about water, protocol at work, etc. All I want to hear is she is out, through recovery, and all is well... but... in the meantime...the complications were cleared, so I am drinking my water :)

One pound away from my goal--very excited! Drinking water definitely helps. I try to get in half my weight in ounces each day, but it's tough. I'm always running to the bathroom. Hola, ladies. :)
susie - Super glad the scale is turning around for you! Great job on all those OP days. :)
jessica - My fingers are crossed that they fit well!!!! I'm so anxious to know, lol. If we don't see you here before you leave on your trip, have a great time!!
ItsMyTurn - I know, you are always *right* there, and not getting over the line is never for your lack of effort! Stupid hormones; seriously, they can really mess things up for us and really contribute to the frustration some weeks. How are you doing the past few days? And yeah, I think so on the estrogen. Grrrr. So tired of it!
stronger4me - Way to go! Can't wait to see it happen for you! :D
Jester - SO close! It's going to happen, I can feel it! Whenever I hold on to weight like that over a normal week, I usually see a nice whoosh. I'll be hoping for one for you before Wednesday!
loose seal - Indeed! Whether we hit our monthly goal or not, what we lose now is less we have to lose later!
I love it that so many of us have stuck it out all the way through this month - EVERYONE who is still fighting is doing an awesome job. I wish we could have a (skim) latte party at the end of the month or something to celebrate how well everyone has done!

Will not reach my weight loss goal this month. I managed to find 5 lbs. on vacation which is a victory considering how I ate. Am back in weight loss mode now so should see a loss in February.

Ahhhhhhhh!!
This past week the proverbial wagon left me in the dust after falling off on Sunday...I ate carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner...maybe 5 times my usual amount...now I am retaining water but expect it to be gone by Monday and realistically am hoping for 253 by the first but would still be insanely psyched for 249.9! Keeping the faith and keeping my butt in workout mode for the weekend!!

RoadtoFifty - Great job on the losses!!! Amazing numbers! Take it and run! LOL!
Chickadee - Every month I have tried challenges I seem to be JUST shy of the goals... crazy! I have been totally within calorie range these last days and doing well despite all the extra crap going on... so I think there HAS to be change however... read farther to find out the rest,
So, went to get my weekly weigh in this morning to discover I won't KNOW if I hit it this month (of course!)... my scale is broke or something. It read 124lbs, LOL! Ummmm... not! Sooooo.... I will be assuming I made progress until proven otherwise, !!!!! I will be doing measurements on Feb 1st, so guess that will be my telltale sign. We are going to have to wait for paycheck to get batteries and try that - if it doesn't work, a new scale is in my future cause this is going to drive me nuts! I vote for putting me in red anyway, just cause I have never had my dang name in red, As for me - even though it's breezy, going to play some tennis today :) It's sunny and beautiful and I want to be out in it!!!!
Have an awesome day all!!!!

I lost 2 lbs So I have about 5 lbs to reach my goal. I probably won't get there but hopefully I'll get close.

IMT - I second that vote for putting you in red!! How frustreating for that to happen, but hopefully when you get the scales sorted you'll see a nice loss.
Well I weighed in this morning and finally some movement - I've lost a pound and have reached my January goal of losing 8lbs!! :)
Glad to see a small drop this week. So far I've only lost 2.5 of the 6 lbs I intended to lose, but I'm not so discouraged. My issue is probably still diet-related. Great job to everyone staying on track and holding themselves accountable and best wishes for final weigh-ins this month and next month :)

Jester - the funniest part is I have participated in now 5 of Chickadee's monthly challenges... each time I set different goals, yet each time, I fall short by .2-.4!!! Not even full pounds! So if I was put in red out of pity... it would be my first time in red,
With that being said... here is my new theory - I think I should set a high goal, Here's my logic: I have set goals for these challenges as high as 8lbs, as low as 5... each time within a pound of the goal and never reach it... I would rather be .2 away from 8lbs loss, then .2 away from 5lb loss, See? Makes total sense! LOL! I won't have the money for a scale until sometime mid-month Chickadee, but would still like to participate in next month's challenge... I just won't have a reliable start number. However, here is why I want to... the group we usually get never fail to inspire me. There is always a few, you included, who when they write, always get me wanting to move more :) So.. even with a rough start guesstimate, hoping you will let me participate? Off for checking DD's homework, then to play some tennis :) Have a great day all!

Well, I feel like this month has been an incredible success for me. I've turned down SO many temptations and even the "planned" temptations were handled much better than in the past year. I was at a wedding with DH yesterday and today I weighed below my goal weight still.
I have not been perfect, but have turned down ice cream several times and kept my portions more reasonable. I have been able to handle some difficult situations with thinking ahead. There was 1 night I caved and had some candy after we ate a fundraiser dinner where the food was gross. Even then, I shared with my kids which is NOT normal for me. I DO NOT like to share those rare sweet treats! I was actually happy to share a little since it started to taste almost too sweet. Again NOT normal for me, so yay!

I had a busy, busy weekend! I went for a run at the gym and then ran around shopping and running errands yesterday, and then had a Dr. appointment at 8am this morning, followed by the baby shower brunch I was putting on an hour away from home, and then got in more than an hour and half at the gym this afternoon. The good news from this weekend is that my bloodwork and ultrasound results from the appointment this morning show that I am responding very well to the meds, and we are good to go with the embryo transfer this Friday! :D The bad news is that the scale hates what the meds are doing to my body, and my weight is back up again. I start some additional injections tonight and will continue doing both at least until we find out whether or not things worked, which won't be for ~3 weeks, so I think I can expect continued issues on the scale. Oh well, if I'm able to get pregnant as a result of all of this, I will GLADLY take whatever nuttiness comes my way due to the hormones.
LeslieB: I hope you enjoyed your vacation! Those are always VERY tough from a food perspective. I look forward to seeing you in the February thread!
tavvy: Oh, water weight - I am intimately familiar with it lately!! The good news is that it always comes off eventually. :) Hope this weekend was good for making some progress on that front!
RoadtoFifty: AWESOME job! Those are some seriously impressive numbers! I'm so glad you've had such a great month on the weight loss front (you deserve it) - it really helps to inspire for continued commitment and progress! February is going to be great as well for you! Definitely keep us updated on how the tracking works for you - I really feel like it's been such a useful tool for me.
ItsMyTurn: Maybe it should be considered a good thing that your scale died on it's own - because I might have had to murder it for you if it didn't!! Seriously, that thing just would not let you catch a break! Your name IS going in RED because there's no way that you didn't actually lose that last partial pound of fat over these last few days of the month, and the evil scale isn't around to say otherwise. :p And OF COURSE you can participate in February, scale or no scale - it matters not. Heck, I'm going to set up the thread and not even set a goal for myself! (I would be delusional to believe I'm going to see any movement in the right direction I think ) You're one of the people I always look forward to seeing around here, especially because you're so consistent and committed in your effort, and we would all be losing a lot if you weren't participating. :) And, not to seem like I'm a crazy person for still having all this stuff around that I'm not using... but I have a second scale I bought but never use (it's been collecting dust for months)... do you want for me to mail it to you? It's an Omiron and is supposed to track muscle mass and body fat and things like that (which is why I bought it, but then I didn't like what it was telling me ), but it functions perfectly well as just a plain old scale, too. If you're interested let me know and I could put it in the mail to you this week, I just need to find the instruction manual for it!
Jester: WOOHOO!!! Congrautulations on meeting your January goal!! I made you RED below! Great job!!! :carrot:
ferretgirl: You're so teeny-tiny already, that 2.5 lbs seems like a really great loss! I'm glad you're feeling good about it, because you should be! Way to go!
loose seal: I love the continued encouragement you keep giving. :) There is no way I'm making my goal this month, but I'm continuing to fight no matter what!
MsP: You've done a fantastic job this month, and I bet that the feeling of making good choices and being in control this month is even better than reaching your target number on the scale. Serious kudos to you. :)

Hiya ladies...again a quick checkin. Just got back from the snowshoeing trip and trying to get back into the hang of things. The whole trip was so much fun. Especially having snow pants that fit!!!! THANKS again so much chickadee! I changed my avatar to me in them at the rim of Crater Lake :) Didn't have time to read the whole list of happenings since I left last Thursday...but hope everyone is doing awesome and I'll do a longer checkin tomorrow.

loose seal: You did a fantastic job. :D
AZJade: Yay, congratulations on meeting your January goal!! :carrot: I made you RED in our final goal list below! :)
My final weight this morning was 152.6 lbs, only 2.4 lbs down from where I started, and so I didn't make my goal this month. I fought for it EVERY DAY though and had a deficit of nearly 30,000 cals for the month, and so I'm proud of putting in consistent effort and not giving up even though the scale isn't reflecting all my hard work. One day all this water will drop and then I'll be really glad I've continued to fight. :)
Congratulations to all the challengers who met their goals this month, and all those who lost a lot and are still fighting! So many people did such a great job this month, and I hope your successes are getting you revved for another awesome month of losses. :) See you in the February thread!
