Here I go braggin girls, but mostly I can't believe I did it. I have slowly been building up my weights for my legs and thinkning by the end of next month I could leg press 300 lbs, well, I was feeling strong yesterday and I did it. 300lbs!!!!! Can you believe that! It felt great! I can feel my body getting stronger everyday. Body for life and body building in general is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I also have upped my cardio, I now do 35 to 40 minutes of cardio as well. I love working out. It is my high. A year ago, I would think I was crazy, now I know I am, but also much healthier too. Thanks to all you guys and your support.
Love and hugs to all

My dear chickies... I haven't exercises in months. :( Please, someone motivate me to start moving again! It is just so difficult when the weather is cold and its dark outside and I can't afford a gym membership. I suppose I could pull out my videos but I need some encouragement...

You ladies intrigue me. I am too cold here to move! I can not wait for Spring! Then I can walk! I am ok at the Y inside, but not outside! It is amazing we get no snow, and yet I get chilled to the bone when it is 35 degrees. My mother says I just need a swift kick in the tail. (she just told me that a few minutes ago...) I freeze in the bath tub! I did do 25 minutes of stomach crunches and situps- this is good for me today.. I hate exercizing-love aerobics, but hate to move with no music. I would love to take up bellydancing. Our town is renovating an old hotel with a huge ballroom and I thought I might force the hubby to take ballroom dancing. Imagine that two old red-kneck's learning to dance. My children start tennis lessons in March, so then I can walk around the football stadium track. I wish I had half the energy you ladies seem to have. I am too young to feel this old.

Till tomorrow....................

Well I bundled up and headed out for a nice walk in our Wisconsin winter wonderland. You chicks are very motivating! It was a balmy 30 degrees and thankfully the sun was actually shining! Its amazing how my mind forgets how great it feels to get a little exercise. Its just one half hour walk... but its a start! :)

Gee, I had to hunt for THIS baby!

Finally, after three weeks of illness, I went to the Y today with DH. I'm still pretty sick. And weak. I walked a whole half hour on the treadmill  and did some weights. Just about had a heart attack. But I'm very glad to be getting back into it.

The usual walks to and from school, plus a walk to the post office and library (probably about 3 miles all together)

Plus crunches, situps, and a little running in place (I prefer this to the treadmill somehow), and some bridges (for the rear end, sort of like a crunch but backwards)

I did a couple of trips between the restaurants on property. It has been awful rainy here but I tried to catch the breaks . Still running up and down stairs.
Lots of pain in the legs from an accident last summer - but I can not let that stop me.( I know have honeydews for knees!) They hurt much worse with the rainy weather.

I did lose 3.8 lbs!!! (guarenteed not by exercize)

Have a great night!

I love my treadmill, so gratifying to see those calories burning. Not quite sure about the accuracy...as we all burn calories differently depending on how much we weigh? right? Anyone know about this? I don't really care, but it would be cool if I was actually burning more than say a 112 pd. woman using the same treadmill yet getting the same reading.
I just realized that this probably didn't make much sense!
blessings,
blackbird

ellis
02-28-2003, 08:19 AM
I think you're right, blackbird. The exercise bikes at the Y (and some of the treadmills and other equipment) get you to enter your age before you start. And the treadmills ask for your weight as well. There must be reasoning behind it...

Sarajane, congratulations on the weight loss!! :cb:

RavenToy
02-28-2003, 08:52 AM
From what I've read, generally speaking, the more you weigh, the more calories you need to expend keeping that weight in motion. Also something else I've read - (I'm not sure whether all treadmills are designed this way or what) - they measure the gross calories expended, not the net calories. If you want to get your true caloric burn from the walking alone, you need to subtract 30%. I'll see if I can find the link to that article. Again, this all subjective, YMMV.

Griffin woke up this morning and said he wanted to go for a walk. So after my bath, I put him in the stroller and we walked 10 minutes to the park. We played on the play ground for about 15 minutes. The swings still make me dizzy! And the slides are slipper than I remember, maybe I am just heavier!!! We walked around the park chasing sea gulls. We took a long route home. Grif walked for about 10 minutes and rode in the stroller for about 15. I need to do this everyday. Today is apsolutely gorgous, I even have my windows opened!!!!

You're not going to believe this, but I'm counting grocery shopping and going to the library as major exercise for today. Since I've been sick, that's the most activity I've done in WEEKS, and I'm exhausted! Woof!

Ellis - seems you are feeling a bit better. I am glad.

My knees are still very bad during this rain, so I have not done much today. I try to park in the fartherest parking spot from where ever I am going but I am not sure if it will do much good....

I am tired of the flip flopping weather - rainy and cold one day, sunny and warm the next and now it is raining again!!!!! Happy for your pretty weather Flower. Enjoy it for me as well.

But seriously, I'll take rain over this snow ANYDAY!!

Not arthritis yet, got hit head on in July by a 16 yr old with no liscence, insurance, or brakes. My knees hit the dashboard. The surgeon says I should have arthritis with in 5 yrs. Now my insurance company is trying to decide exactly what my knees are worth. Thanks to this kid I had to have my first mamogram at 29!!! and one every 6 months until the knots are gone. (what is that worth???)

My husband says I my knees sound like cracking crab legs...

Gotta take a break Bush is speaking. I know you guys have opinions on this war thing, but we ARE with in the destruction range if someone bombs Atlanta...... It terrifies my children. They want to move somewhere far away.

Check back in soon....

ellis
03-06-2003, 08:29 PM
Oh, I'm so sorry about your knees, Sarajane! :(
Yes, we all have an opinion about this war thing. WE DON'T WANT IT!!!
If you think it's any safer, you may all come up to Ottawa. I'm fairly close the Parliament buildings, though. :D Haven't built my fall-out shelter yet...

sarajane
03-06-2003, 08:51 PM
Thanks - WE DO NOT WANT IT EITHER, but my son likes to listen to the President and I make sure I am there to explain the Presidental legal talk. I sometimes do not understand it either and we have to consult the hubby.

We are planning a trip to Greece in the fall, but if we are at war- we will not go. We are supposed to stay in Turkey overnight at some Bizaar to shop, but are they going to be American friendly?????? They make movies about this stuff. We will go to Disney World instead. (much safer?!?!?!?) My children want to move to Iowa. (my son says no one lives in Iowa)

We all have a place and time for life to begin and end and we can not totally control the outcome. There are certain destinies that fall in our lives. And I for one believe that there is a greater being than Goerge W. Bush that watches over our destiny.

We donot have the plastic to cover the windows, or the bateries in the radios, or for that matter the 3 day supply of bottles water....I do have several cans of tuna.....

Why can't we all just be happy????

War or not I am going, but very oddly I keep thinking if there is war will the 'EU ALLOW me into their borders? Isn't that odd.

Well on to exercise. I go daily. Today I did interval work with quick walking and sprinting. I ended up with 3.9 miles in 41 minutes. At one point I was running at 8.5 MPH. I had no idea I could; it was cool!

I took the dogs for a walk for about 30 minutes today. Not the most strenuous activity, but we all really enjoyed it. :) I think I might actually try to do a mild interval training session today. Just so way do NOT want to reinjure that back.

Update:

I did 50 minutes of walking, with intervals of 1 minute runs every 6 minutes. I had to experiment with the running speed to find out what was too much for that minute, and right now, 6 mph is too fast. Right around 5.2 or so seems comfortable for a minute at a time.
