New thread.............Happy week everyone

12-12-2011, 10:25 AM
Good Morning Chicks! It's Monday again already?

My weekend was very busy and flew by. We have to get all our running done as I'm not wild about leaving the guys here alone with the dog while we go out. Had a birthday party and a ton of laundry to do. I can't believe my Great Niece turned 19!

Today is more PT for me and Christmas shopping that I must get done. Still no tree here and I'm starting to wonder if we should bother. I'll see how I feel by the end of the week. We hope the cabinet correction will work and we will be happy with the solution. My eating at the party was not good and must stop.

What did you all do this weekend?

Hi Ladies:)

Was too busy to get on the board yesterday. I when to Church and to brunch and the movies[New Years Eve]and than to dinner.

This morning I found out that I'm a diabetic. The A1C was 6.5.along with my cholesterol is off the walls. The doctor told me I don't need insulin shots now but I should work hard on the diet first. I have been doing that for over 21 years, and my sister who eats junk food all the time is a pre diabetic, and much heavier than me Can't understand, why me!!!

:thanks:PAM for starting the new pages.

VICKIE-Not going to do my Christmas :tree: shopping up here if i go to my DD in NY,but if I do I will going shopping down there as I don't want to lug along extra bundles if I don't have to.

Dinner is ready, have a great day

12-12-2011, 05:16 PM
Hi everyone:

Thanks for the new pages, Pam.

I was so tired that I slept for 11 hours last night! So, I haven't had much time to get into trouble today

I'm making a beef stew, and it's beginning to smell good. No potatoes in it, but will add mushrooms and serve it over wild rice tonight.

I have a party to go to this evening. I'm not much on going to the party, but I've just got to go see the house. It's a dome, built in the 60's!

12-12-2011, 11:02 PM
Maryann, I'm glad you don't need insulin. Be sure to take care of yourself.

Rhonda, a dome? I've been in one before. The upper story looked down all around at the rooms below. Interesting place.

Pam, thank you for the new pages.

Vickie, I hope your new cabinets work out for you. I wouldn't leave the guys alone with Brodie either. You never know when they could leave a door open or something.

Tomorrow I'm going to lunch with my dear friend. We're going to have a good visit then go to the movies.

My eating is horrendous right now. Life goes on.

12-13-2011, 07:29 AM
Sandra, "horrendous"? That's strong.

The dome was great. The top floor was just barely above ground level and looked down on the other floor. I liked it and appreciate the design although some areas felt cramped to me. That could have been nothing other than the size of it.

My dog has me up too early and I can't get back to sleep.

Rush, rush is what I have been doing the last few day..
A well guy is coming in a few minutes to see why I don't have water..It has been out a few days but comes on for about 5 minutes a few times a day..
I have been showering at the gym and last night I washed as many dishes as I could in the middle of the night when I heard it come on ( I can hear it in the pipes..) Its done this before for a day only so I kept hoping it would get back to normal..
This week is dedicated to loose ends, shopping, cleaning and decorating..

Maryanne...You have had a hard month with medical..Robin was diabetic and took a pill everyday for it..Will you be doing that..I think it was Metformin Plus ??
I will check. His was very well controlled so I hope yours will be also..

Bath looks great..I need to paint, seal the tiles, get a tub drain that fits, and get the baseboards put on.. In January I am goingt to get granite remnant vanity tops for my 2 baths..Now I am considering the same guy for my 1/2 bath..He drove me crazy but he was cheap and it came out great.. The 1/2 bath should be quick with just a tile floor, pedestal sink & new toilet..

I ordered 2 SouthBeach books (new heart one & a easy/quick recipe book) I realized South Beach is very close to the clinic's diet that I went to. I wonder what the different is between the phase 2 & 3 of south beach & core.. anyway its simple to follow so I am going to give it a shot..

Good Afternoon Ladies:)

Went to Walmart to pick up some Atkins shakes, meals replacement bars and snacks. I found some yogurts for diabetics from Dannon's lite & fit with 3 carbs. So I'm all set for the week until I go down to NY next Wednesday. Hopefully my doctor will give me the cortisone shot this Thursday so the pain will stop.

Talked to my sister about diabetes and she is going to help me with the low carbing and how to follow to get my #'s down.

SANDRA-Thanks,My sister suggest that I have the two hr test ,but I will if I can't get my weight down for the next 3 month blood test. I wish I could walk along the beach I miss that and biking but I can't with my bad hip.If I didn't have the latter I would be exercising like I used to.

NANCY-Thanks for the information about the pills,it would be better than pricking yourself everyday. So far it just my diet, so I will keep low carbing it see if it makes a difference. I have the SB Easy & Quick cookbook I like 30 min cooking, I have several recipes that I use all the time.

Have a great day

12-13-2011, 09:07 PM
Hey chickies! I sure am glad to be catching up with y'all! Besides eating like a maniac, I have been having problems with my hip again. I've been going to PT 3 times a week for the last month. My therapist is starting to think I have something going on inside the joint. I was hoping it was only a muscle issue. If it doesn't get better soon, she wants me to go to a hip doc. Meanwhile I'm not able to exercise. In fact, this flare up started when my friend and I started a walking program. I knew exercise was bad for you ;)

Hope you all are having a wonderful evening.

12-13-2011, 09:30 PM
Sloan, have you tried a good massage therapist? They can sometimes work wonders...especially if they do deep tissue massage. Ask the PT about that....of course, if she (?) doesn't think it's muscle??

Maryann, I suggest that you look at the American Diabetics Association website. There is a great deal of information about diet, exercise, etc.

I got back to sleep and slept until 10AM. That was great.

12-14-2011, 09:59 AM
Good Morning Chicks!

More drama wit the bathroom. Don't feel like talking. I'll be back when I can.

Mary Ann, I'm sorry about your diagnosis. Jim has diabetes and is on a pill. He still has to check his blood sugar every morning to determine whether or not he needs to take the pill. Hope all goes easy for you.

Gotta run. The workers are here and it's time for a tough conversation.

12-14-2011, 03:31 PM

For a few months my hands have been hurting, especially the middle finger on each hand. Today I had xrays and the doc took enough blood to feed an entire village of vampires. He says it is arthritis and he'll know more after the blood results come back. There may be gout also.

He gave me a prescription for Meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. I'll take it and we'll see. There goes my career as a concert pianist. Oh well. Just as long as I can hold a barbell I'll be OK

Good luck Vickie!

12-14-2011, 06:15 PM
you are so funny Rhonda. Hope the meds do the trick.

oh, oh, Vickie, that does not sound good.

sloanie and Maryann, sorry about your hips.

We have been walking everyday. It really brings down my husband glucose level. Of course we haven't lost a single pound.

I LOVED South Beach Diet. I keep telling my husband we need to do it. He has found all these diabetic snacks from Gloserna (sp) and thinks he can have those and no problem. Well, I hate to bust his bubble, but they contain a lot of calories. No sugar, but lots of calories. He still has his addiction to all the sugars and carbs, and has done pretty good, but now his new addiction is those stupid bars, drinks, etc for diabetics. I think I'm going to have to get stern with him soon. He is on 3 metformin pills a day.

Sandra, what did you think of Biggest Loser? I thought Antonne had it. He looked the best of the 3 finalists.

12-14-2011, 08:07 PM
Rhonda, I take Meloxicam daily for arthritis. I can definitely tell it helps because when I have to go without it for 3 or more days (back when I was going to have spinal injections), I am in severe pains in both hands. I hope M helps you as much as it does me.

Vickie, I hope all is going better by now.

Sloan, I hope you get relief from your hip pain. The spinal injection took care of mine.

Nancy, I hope you get your well problem solved soon. I didn't realize you'd been without water.

We've had a good day today. My eating's been better but not perfect. Have a good evening, everyone.

12-14-2011, 09:32 PM
Lots done today..
I treated myself to having my house cleaned so I could get more other stuff done..She does an awesome job and cleaned today with no running water, what a good sport..I gave her a heads up but she said "no problem" We had buckets of water from the pool for rinsing things.

Got my 2 South Beach books today & can't wait to read them.

Well guy came today..He thinks pump & tank are working as they should and that our 400 ft well is running dry. We are repairing the electric to our backup well Friday and if that works we can wait and see if the other improves :crossed:

My brother is coming up for the weekend which is a nice surprise ..

Now that I have cut out a lot of corn, rice, wheat I think I can tell that they affected my stiffness & joints..I have felt so much better but when i eat that stuff I can tell in my joints.. I ate corn tortilla chips last night and my knees hurt right afterwards. My Dr tested for allergies (none) but he said even so people can have wheat/corn sensitivities..
This week I am trying to do South Beach Phase One . Mainly eggs, meat, poultry, seafood, almond milk protein shakes, nuts, low fat cheese, celery with peanut butter or hummus.. I don't know if that is exactly Phase One but its close..

12-14-2011, 11:41 PM
Nancy, hope you get the water situation solved soon. I know it must be a pain. We were without water for a week, and it was not fun!

12-15-2011, 11:26 AM
Good Morning Chicks! The saga continues.

Lordy, NO water! That is absolutely worse than what I'm dealing with here. At least I can flush......:D

Hi Ladies:)

Went to the othropetic doctor this morning and I don't know what my reg doctor is talking about I don't have a cracked hip,but I have a bad case of bursitis. He gave me a cortisone shot and told me it will help me with no pain over the Christmas Holiday. and if it get bad in 3 months they will find another treatment for me,and if that doesn't work he can take the bursitis out by doing microscopic surgery on the area where the bursitis is located.

Went on line and got my tickets for the trip to NY. My DD called last night and asked when I was coming down and how long I was staying as my SIL wanted to know. ??????????Why??????????is it so important that he know how long I want to stay. I also found out that my DD is not going to take me out shopping as she finished with hers and doesn't want to go,out in the crowds. So I will have to buy my gifts up here and hope that I will be able to carry the extra baggage on the bus & trains. She suggested gift cards for everyone.

SLOAN-I had the same thing with my hip at first they thought it was a hair line fracture and of course I had a MRI the results according to my reg doctor told me that I had a cracked hip well this morning my orthro doctor told me like I posed above that I have bursitis ,gave me a cortisone shot for the pain and if all goes well I won't have to see him but if the pain comes back he told me he would give me a microscopic surgery to remove the bursitis.

RHONDA- Thanks, but I looked up the Amer Diabetes Assoc. web site, but I liked Dr Memdosa 's site better. A Woman on anther message board told me to by the book from Gretchen Becker's First Year With Diabetes and I getting lots of information from there.

VICKIE- Thanks, I'm not so sure I have diabetes now, going to go on a low carb diet now and than in another 3 months I will have my A1C checked again .I hope that they give me the pill if I have this disease as I don't like needles even if it me doing the sticking.

PAM-Don't think it my hip as my doctor told me it was bursitis this morning.

NANCY-I;m using my SB Quick and easy cookbook right now I making BBQ chicken with GG microwave veggies.

Have a great day

12-15-2011, 04:34 PM
hey ladies how you all doing? im feeling abit better and my coldsores are slowly going i had 4 in total in the end. :(

Maryann does your hip feel better after the shots? xxxx

12-15-2011, 07:01 PM
That's good news about your hip Maryann. Pain relief should be easier to get.

My physician's office called saying that the blood work was "abnormal" and they are referring me to a rheumatologist. Oh well....:(

12-15-2011, 08:15 PM
Ems and Maryann, I'm glad you're both better.

Rhonda, I am so sorry to hear this. I was referred to a rheumatologist, too. Mine turned out to be osteoarthritis. I hope you get good results. Be sure to let me know what you find out. When is your appointment?

I got my new bridge today. I'm calling it, "The Golden Bridge." I'm still a little sore but am all right. We had potato soup for lunch and mac/n/cheese for dinner.

12-15-2011, 10:36 PM
hi chicks,

ems, glad your cold sores are going away. I've never had 4 at one time. One is plenty.

Sandra, soft food is good after dental work. The Golden Bridge, that is a good one.

Rhonda, good luck. My dr sent me to a rheumotogist back in the mid 90's. She said I had arthritis in my ankles, back, knee....the list goes on. Hope you can get some relief.

Maryann, glad you didn't have a fractured hip. How long before the shot kicks in? I sent the grandkids money this year. I would have had to mail everything and money is easier.

Hope Vickie got her dilemma straightened out.

Nancy, hope you got your water situation fixed.

We walked 45 min. this morning and another 20 min. before dinner. We started the South Beach Diet today. He said...fix it, I'll eat it. I know he would prefer something with a lot of fat, but if he starts to see the pounds drop, he will be okay. We both need to lose around 20 lbs. The kicker, on our last walk, his hip started hurting. What is with all these pained hips???? Hope he is able to walk tomorrow. I'm loving that he finally is walking with me.

12-15-2011, 11:24 PM
Pam, that's great that dh is doing SB with you. And you're inspiring me to walk more. Thank you.

12-15-2011, 11:44 PM
"Golden Bridge"..that's good.

I was being tested for rheumatoid, but we'll keep hoping it's not  I don't have the appointment yet. I'll call tomorrow.

Glad I don't have any plumbing problems!! It's hard to have your house in disarray.

Good luck on the SB Pam. I just can't not eat fruit so I never make it past indcution.

We're getting lots of good, slow rain which we really need.

12-15-2011, 11:53 PM
Rhonda,

12-16-2011, 10:23 AM
morning chicks.

Rhonda, sending positive thoughts your way. I don't do phase 1, we are eating fruits.

Drinking my coffee, need to wake up.

12-16-2011, 11:42 AM
Rhonda, I'm saying prayers and thinking good thoughts for you. You are living a really healthy clean life and I think that's all good.

I'm still having drama but it is calming down a bit. I'm off to PT.

12-16-2011, 03:17 PM
Vickie, glad your drama is less intense. Hang in there.

We just got home from lunch out with friends at a wonderful Mexican restaurant. Chicken enchiladas. nuff said.

12-17-2011, 09:48 AM
Good Morning Chicks! I can't believe it's only one week until Christmas Eve Day.

I've decided not to put up the tree. It makes me sad. In 55 years I've never gone without a tree. But, I decided the stress of putting it up at the last moment with my house in disarray was going to cause more stress which I don't need. and tomorrow I wrap. Monday is busy for me but on Tuesday I need to make some Chocolate Chip cookies for my husband and nephew and my famous cream cheese snowcaps that everyone loves.

We are really worn out. The project is proceeding, although WAY more slowly than we wanted with WAY too many issues. I won't bore you with them but we will be lucky to be done by Wednesday of next week. Considering they started on November 29th, I think it is taking too long. We have some painting scheduled to start right after the new year to get rid of the blizzard damage from last winter. Lordy.

My eating is ok....not great. Most days I'm on program and then there are splurges so it ends up being maintenance which I should NOT be doing at this weight.

I hope you are all well and have a wonderful weekend planned!

12-17-2011, 12:00 PM
If you look under "announcements..." you'll see that I posted something about the ads (which were all over my computer and hard to close). Someone else has posted about how to use Firefox and get rid of them.

Good luck, Vickie....maybe a baby, pre-lit artificial tree? I remember the year my mother decided a tree was too much trouble. One of my nieces and I went to see her, and when we heard her say "no tree" we went out and bought a foot high pre-decorated fake tree and put it on top of the stack of presents. I have a picture of it, and it brings me great joy!

We turned a disappointment into a reason to laugh

12-17-2011, 01:14 PM
Good morning, but wait, it's after noon, so good afternoon.

Rhonda, I don't see your announcement, only Suzanne's about your signature size. I use google chrome. Like it much better than firefox. I don't get all those popups and it's much quicker than firefox. At least for me it is. My grandkids recommended it a couple years ago. All I use now. I NEVER use IE.

Off to do some shopping. I haven't put up a tree. Come to my house Rhonda. We found a small one in the attic, the previous owners left behind. I think I will wait and get one after Christmas when they go on clearance for next year. Just the 2 of us here anyway.

Have a nice Saturday

Hi Ladies:)

Got up early and went to the PO to stop my mail for the week, boy was it crowded the line almost went out of the door. Than I went to the bank to put some important papers into the safe deposit box just in case of an emergency happens. Going out with Rita this afternoon, after that I will go to the small stores to set some small gifts.

EMS-The cortisone shot worked by night fall and now this morning no pain.

RHONDA-Thanks now that the pain is gone I feel safer to travel by bus,to train to train. I'm going to take it easy and ask for porters help. When i on the SB I can only stay on Phase 1 also,The breads get men into trouble.

SANDRA-Thanks,Sorry about the pain of your new bridge. My sister is suffering from a crack in her tooth that the hygienist did when cleaning her teeth. She had to have the tooth pulled with the dentist pushing her sinuses out of the way to get a post put in her mouth and than next week the new tooth. GEE!!! I wonder what that's going to cost her. Scary thing I have to have my teeth cleaned in January, not looking forward to that, after what happened to my sister.

PAM- Thanks I'm glad to hear that over with also.It took the shot a while to kick in ,but in the evening the pain was gone. Doctor told me I can start exercising again,so I'm now going on my stationary bike and than pull out my walking tape with Leslie Sasame. DD bought the gifts for DGC so I just have to give her money for that. Than the rest are going to get gift cards for the [Outback Steak House] plus small gifts of my sister & family that I can tuck into my suitcase.

have to go,and meet my friend at Friendly's,have a great day

Hi Ladies:)

Got my hair styled this morning and got the car gassed, and had last minute gift shopping since my DD is not driving me to buy them..Now this afternoon I'm doing the laundry and packing for this Tuesday's get away.

Tomorrow I'm going with my movie buddy to see the Chipmunks Chipwreck movie. We both like the chipmunks and saw all there movies I guess we're both young at heart.

RHONDA-I hope that your don't have rheumatoid, thin possible thoughts for you. I have Firefox and it as wonderful browser, when you do something it ask you if your really want to do that. and if stops all those ads you mentioned.

VICKIE-Sending some:hug::hug: HUGS:hug::hug: Sorry that you're sad, wish I could:cheer2::cheer2: cheer you up:cheer3::cheer3: at this time of the year. I'm a little lonely miss my Leo,but I thinking about the family that waiting for me to celebrate with them Christmas In NY.==,even though now dessert for me this year until I know for sure that i don't have diabetes 2.

PAM-Good Luck in shopping hope you went early today as the store & streets are packed with people and traffic all over.At least in my town.

Have a great evening and I see you guys sometime tomorrow afternoon.

12-17-2011, 05:03 PM
Vickie, I understand your wanting to lessen the stress as much as possible. You're doing great maintaining right now. Rhonda has a good idea about the small, prelit tree. Think about it.

I have been thinking quite a bit and have decided to go back on old Core Jan. 1. I know. I know. Another New Year's Resolution. Oh, well, some things never change.

12-17-2011, 05:04 PM
Maybe this means I don't need to weigh Christmas Day?

12-18-2011, 04:41 AM
Too much "busy-ness" for me, too, Vickie. With my hip giving me fits and a bad cold, a tree is the last thing I want to work on. DS put the top of our artificial tree on a table in our family room, and we decorated that. It is around two feet tall and is perfect. The whole process took less than ten minutes. I highly recommend a small tree :)

Sandra, I will be joining you on core in January. I was more successful with core than any other eating plan. Let's do it together!

Hope you all are having a great weekend.

12-18-2011, 08:37 AM
Good Morning Chicks! You are all awesome. I feel closer to you guys than to some of the people in my life. Thanks for the suggestions and hugs. They do help.

Jim had purchased two new ornaments for me this year. I hung them on the curly light bar in my kitchen on my ceiling fan light over the table. They are very sparkly and make me happy. I told Jim that the light is our Christmas tree this year.

Got all the presents boxed and tissued yesterday and got my applesauce made. Today is the wrapping! Maybe that will perk me up some.

I am definitely going back on Core after the holidays and now too as much as possible. If I combine what I learned on JC......the tiny portions...and the good Core food...maybe even lose that 100 remaining pounds. I'd even be thrilled with the second 50 for now!

Be back later on my break!

12-18-2011, 11:15 AM
Sloan and Vickie, I am very excited to being back on CORE with you.

Maryann, I hope your sister gets relief soon from that aching tooth. I'm back to normal now. Curtis is still aching from the cost, though.

Today we're going to church, lunch, then to fling some arrows. Tomorrow I'm going Christmas shopping with the grands.:hohoho:

Life is good!

12-18-2011, 08:37 PM
Certainly is quiet here today. I hope you're all out having a great Sunday. I'm sitting here waiting on Survivor Finale. Do I need a life?

12-18-2011, 11:28 PM
Busy day with gkids over for tree decorating...great time was had by all. And, I ate only one piece of the fabulous chocolate cake I make.
