Unhappy Bicycling Advice

I'm trying to start riding my bike to and from work as an alternative to walking it all the time. This will give my shins some rest. However, after completing the round trip yesterday (with 9 hours between the legs of it) my rump is in "sore" shape. the points of my pelvis which contact the seat are almost bruised. Anyone have any suggestions?????? PLEASE!!!!

ooooh! a gel seat....

I haven't seen any lately, but I'm gonna check it out. Money doesn't seem to keep stretching as far as it used too (kinda like me I guess).

I believe they also make comfort seats for women. Similar to the split seats you see for guys. It takes the pressure off the pubic bone (I think thats what that thingy is)

Oh also, are you wearing padded bike shorts? They help a bunch too.

I had the same problem a few years ago when I started riding my bike.

What I did was I put some of my own foam padding on my seat, I think at first for a while you require lots of padding until you get used to riding and your butt gets tougher.

After a few weeks of riding I was able to get a gel seat, which are very good, I think they even have mega gel seats, also like Monique said it makes a big difference which way the seat is tilted, I think the more you ride the more you will adjust and will find that you feel comfortable with the gel seat. I can hardly wait till winter is over so I can get back on my bike for the season.

Happy riding.

Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. I'm starting to get used to the work on those muscles. Not completely better, but definitely better.
