There is 6 weeks until the year ends.
this is an inspiration thread from another forum i joined and i thought it woud be great.
Who would like to join me in a kettle bell challenge 100 swings a day until the end of the year thats 4200 kettlebell swings, you can do more each day if you choose and finish earlier.

If youíre looking to burn an enormous amount of calories, sculpt and tone lean muscle and feel incredible, KettleBell training is for you! Although Kettlebells have just become immensely popular in the fitness industry, kettlebell training is NOT new. Kettlebell training has been around since the early 1900′s.

Benefits of Kettlebell Training

This sounds awesome. I'm in! I love doing kettlebell workouts. I've been doing them for about a year.

So far I've done 60 today (with 25# kettlebell). I'll get at least another 40 in this evening with my 15# at home.

i did 135 today my kettle bell is 15lbs, hoping to work my way up to your 25lb kettlebell :-)

I am the newbie here with a 5 pound kettle ball, but I will do it. What a great work out for the arms in addition to the work out that came with my ball!

BABYPHAT, you'll be at a 25# in no time. :cool:

I did a total of 150 yesterday. 60 with the 25# and 90 with the 15#. Today is going to be a busy day so I'm hoping to get my 100 swings in this evening.

it sucks because i wont be able to do it over the weekend, i am going away until sunday.
but keep going ladies.
i sweat more doing the kettlebell for 5mins than i do walking the threadmill for 30mins

I ended up doing another 75 on Saturday so that got me to 200. I didn't do any yesterday. So far, I've done 600 swings. Only 3600 more to go!

Hoping to get in at least 100 tonight. I plan on taking my KB with me for the Thanksgiving holiday. Hopefully this time, I'll actually use it rather than just haul it around.

Another 300 swings tonight. Total of 1200 completed and 3000 swings to go.

Hoping to do 200 in the morning before I start traveling for Thanksgiving.

hmmm....I can't do 100 a day, but I think I'll join in and do as many as I can. It's been a while since I've done them routinely although I lift fairly heavy weights twice a week.

I've got the 25# KB, and will start tomorrow.

I did 300 swings total Wednesday-Sunday. 2700 more to go. I'm going to get back with the program tonight.

Great idea, BABYPHAT4ME!.. I'm joining kinda late, so I'm gonna try going for 3500 swings by the end of 2011... it's been a while since I was faithful to my KB, so this should be good incentive to get going with it again...

i just found a kettle bell app on my phone, and it was free, it has 10 diffrent ways to use the ball, so you guys can look that up as well

I looked at the 10k swing ASwell and i just mightr join it along with u but i will need gloves cause just doing 400 with a 15lb bell hurt my hand middle

I did another 200 swings last night. So 2300 to go. I think I'm going to try to see how many I can actually do by the end of the year.

Babyphat, when I do the heavier kettlebells, I wear gloves. My hands sweat terribily. I do have calluses though. And yes, my arms start burning. What was the app you downloaded? I'd be interested to add it.

Worked out with the trainer this morning, and no swings. I'm going to try to get 200 in this evening though.

Just finished 100 swings... I didn't get started 2 days ago when I first posted that I was joining the challenge, but I feel confident I can make up for lost time in the days ahead & finish at or above the 3500 goal I set for myself... since I hadn't picked up a KB in a while, I decided to start easy today with the 10-pounder... it really was too easy, so tonight I'll try another 100 with the 15#... by next week, I should be back to the 25#, where I was when I abandoned my regular KB workouts several months ago...

3500 - 100 = 3400 to go

A couple of questions... do y'all wear weight-lifting gloves with KBs, or do you swing bare-handed?.. also, what about shoes?.. I've always done my KB workouts barefooted... I feel I have a better "grip" on the floor...

Aunt Sheshie, sometimes I wear gloves & sometimes I don't. If I'm doing a full workout, I usually wear gloves--mainly because of hand sweating. If I'm doing a "light" workout or just swings, I usually don't.

Same goes for shoes. If I'm in the gym, I have to wear shoes. If I'm at home, a lot of times I'm barefooted. I like being barefoot because I can feel my heels really "digging" into the floor the way it should be. I really have to think about it when I wear shoes.

I took an RKC kettlebell class in February, and the instructor recommended being barefooted or wearing flat soled shoes when possible. He said it's possible to work out in flip flops! He also recommended not wearing gloves but using chalk/powder if your hands get sweaty.

its called kettlebell Comrade, its free, it also let u recoed your excerise, shows you how to do diffrent kettlebells via youtube its pretty cool.

and i also do kettlebell barefooted as well, i think i do need a gloves i cant stand to get calluses, i will go find one today or some chalks

i did another 400 tonight an i found a callus on my right hand, this scks, i definatly going to get a gloves or use socks lol

my body is soo sore right now i did 45mins of excerise as well as the kettlebell.

i cant wait until i can move up to 25lbs, i am sure after i finish att he end of the year i will be strong enough to do 25lbs an i will be soo darn proud

I did 250 swings tonight, so I have 2050 left. Over 1/2 way there.

My body is sore tonight--especially my abs and triceps! Hoping to get to the gym in the morning before work and get some heavier swings in.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Talking about using socks, I remember that in the RKC class the instructor mentioned that you could run a hand towel through the handle and do swings by grabbing each end of the towel close to the handle. That might help with calluses.

i wokeup this morning an i am even more sore, my calf, waiste, thigh, stomache, shoulders, arms, i can feel it, it feels good but now i can barely move lol
i cant wait to put in my 400 tomm and today because i wont be around to do them on weekends

Another 200 swings with the 15 lb. KB this morning... did 100, rested about 20 minutes, then another 100... I'm not zipping along with this like I thought I could... trouble is, most of the time, I just forget... I guess I could blame my age (62), but I don't really want to... I'm gonna set my cell phone to remind me at 5:00 p.m., if I haven't done them by then... that puts me still doing them before supper & avoiding that full-tummy problem...

Doing 100 swings non-stop sure raises my heart & breathing rates, better than any of the hour-long cardio classes I do at the gym... I like that, makes me feel like I've really done something... I'm not gonna give up the gym, but since I haven't lost any significant weight in the 9 months I've been going there, maybe adding KB is just the amping-up I need to get the scales moving downward again... of course, I have to confess, my diet has also been way off for a few months... I've just had this thought -- maybe exercising at home will make me more conscious of my diet as well, whereas exercising at the gym separates me, mentally, from my diet... I don't know :shrug:, but it's worth the experiment...

I just finished another 200 swings... at this rate, I might go well over my goal by the end of the year... I shortened my rest between 100s to 10 minutes, & it seemed to be okay... maybe tomorrow I'll try a 5-minute rest... I'm loving how it makes me feel, so exhilarated!.. I'm snowed in today, & maybe tomorrow, so I can't make it to the gym... good to have something I enjoy to do at home...

3100 - 200 = 2900 to go

i just went to spend the weekend with my boyfriend we are 4hrs apart so i had to drive there.
where are you located why your snowed in.
also your getting there girl keep up the good job.

200 more swings this morning... I started noticing last night that my abs were a little sore... YAY!!!.. I never get that from crunches & various other ab workouts at the gym...

Wow had no idea there was a KB challenge here!

I am a long term KB user (since 2007), I use them exclusively during my pregnancies (easy to maneuver around a big belly lol) and incorporate them into my regular lifting routines when not pregnant.

Today I'm doing 4 sets of 12-15 KB's with 12kg's (or 16kg, will see how it goes) as part of my dynamic lower body day (the rest being split squats, romanian deadlifts and perhaps some abdominal work).

So count me in for at least 48 today, will update with results :)

OMG I WORKED My butt off today 1hr of working out and 400 more kettlebells, but it felt sooo good

Sacha, the 10k challenge is trying to do 10,000 swings in the month of January! I think there's a link posted by Aunt Sheshie earlier in the thread. Crazy huh??? :p

Computer troubles yesterday... I struggled with the wretched thing for a few hours & finally gave up & went & bought a new one... as a result, I never got any KB swings done... I'll do them this morning, though, but I doubt I'll double up to make up for yesterday... doing 200 a day, even if I miss a few days during the month, will still get me past my original goal... I'm so glad to be doing this challenge with you gals... we don't have a large group, but we make up for it in fun!..

i was on a roill today, i worked out on the machine for 1hr an did my kettlebells
every ten mins i would stop and do 100 kettlebells, an jump right back into working out.

I have noticed some, but I also do other workouts with kettlebells and weights 2-3 times a week. I can't say that it's all from swings, but it sure doesn't hurt!

i notice defination in the back of my arms, an i have gotten quite stronger as well, i know i only have 300++ left but i willl continue doing it until the end of the year.......i am going to start a new thread soon for the 10,000k kettlebell challenge to see who else wants to hop on the bandwagon

I'm not keeping up, but have been doing about 50 a day. My joints have really been hurting and I got a diagnosis of arthritis today. That explains the pain :lol:

I'll take the prescribed meds (Meloxicam) and see what happens.

I'm sorry to say I'm out of the challenge... this turned out to be a not-so-good month for me & KB swings got put on the back burner too many days... I'm still planning to try the 10,000 challenge next month, so I'll keep checking with y'all...
