View Full Version : 200 pounds gone

Started April 2010 and have lost 175 pounds. Did it by calorie counting and staying away from processed foods. And moderate exercise. I've posted pics in the 100 lb club, so hope I'm not posting too many places...should have put my goal reached photos here in the first place. :-)

Edited...lost 200 pounds now!

Thanks y'all! I just went shopping at Dillards and that's one of the outfits I got. Gosh, I could never shop somewhere like that before. Felt awesome to get stuff because I liked it instead of just because I could squeeze into it.

How I did it? Plain ol' calorie counting. Everything I ate was wrote down and I weighed and measured everything. No junk food whatsoever...I tried it a couple times and it just brought back all the cravings, made me want to keep eating it and I just couldn't do it. Lean proteins, veggies, fruits, beans, and a little bit of whole grains. Moderate exercise but nothing over the top. Basically I worked my way up to jogging 2 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill. And I use some little weights while jogging to help tone my arms. I can do and stick with the 30 minutes, 6 times a week. I don't miss any of the junk I used to eat anymore. I really love the taste of fresh, healthy food! Wouldn't have believed it last year. This site was also a big help to stay on plan and motivated. I'm very happy I can inspire people! So many have been an inspiration to me at 3FC. I'll be sticking around...maintenance is going to take work and I'll need some more support I'm sure.

Your post and pictures seriously brought tears to my eyes. It has seriously inspired me. I started trying to change my eating habits over a year ago and things were going really well. I'd lost down to 314lbs. I was so proud of myself. Then some things happened and I'm an emotional eater so of course I fell off the wagon. I've been so depressed with myself lately especially today. I came here hoping to get some sort of uplifting and your post is the first one I saw and it done the job. I look at myself and think wow it'd take years for me to get this weight off. Look at you though you've lost 175lbs in under 2 years. Not only that you look super fantastic. Thank you so much for having the courage to come on here and post. You've blessed my day!!

I use an iPhone app called MyNetDiary. You put in your info and it tells you how many calories to eat to lose 1 or 2 pounds a week. And it keeps track of calories eaten, water, exercise, place for notes...neat little app. I started at 1800 calories I think and right now I'm eating 1200. My new goal is 140 pounds, otherwise I'd be eating more calories to maintain.
I make sure to weigh and measure food when calorie counting...otherwise you can be way off on the actual calories.

It's funny how you can see yourself in others, i feel almost a kinship to those that have overcome the same trials i have, you look wonderful, BTW, brings back such emotion just to here others recall the same journey, i too calorie counted with moderation and reduced processed foods, i also undersatnd the need to stay on plan regardless of a bad day here or there.

Congrats, i know how difficult it is to accomplish, how deep inside oneself one has to look for strength at times, well done. :)

So, since I'm down 140 myself - can you tell me how you deal with the nasayers? I try to ignore them as really it's their world not mine if they can't mesh my before to my after. But do you have any good words of wisdom you'd like to share??

What kind of naysayers? People who think I'll gain the weight back? People who don't want to be friends now that I've lost weight? People who say I'm too skinny now? People who say I lost the weight too fast and I'll gain it back and more? Jealous people? I ignore them just like you do. I'm comfortable and happy with myself for once and don't have time for those kind of people or negativity in my life.
Yes, I still use MyNetDiary. I track all my calories. It's making maintenance much easier. it keeps me accountable.
And congratulations on the 140 pounds lost!! You are awesome!

Maintaining between 120-124. I am having some joint problems and seeing a rheumatologist/sports med doc at end of month. Years of being over 300 pounds has done some damage to my poor joints. Can only imagine how much worse they'd be if I were still heavy.

You probably aren't going to have as much extra skin as me seeing as I was quite a bit heavier than you. I'm not gonna lie, I have a flap of skin on my lower belly. I do sit ups and abdomen strengthening exercises which has helped. Build some muscle. Weight lifting has made my upper arms look much, much better! Still, I have extra skin...can't be avoided. With clothes on, nobody can tell I have that extra skin. Will I ever be able to wear a bathing suit? No. But I was extremely heavy for many, many years and I'm 42 years old. I feel awesome though!!

No I'm not losing anymore...maintaining. I feel real good at this weight. I haven't had anyone tell me I look too thin. But I've heard the "don't lose anymore", so I think it's a good weight for me. I know my joints feel better the lighter I am. And, I can eat around 1800-2000 calories to maintain, so it's not that hard to stay this weight. Thanks for the concern...don't worry, I don't feel like you're judging me. :-)

That is a amazing accomplishment. You should be flaunting that hot new bod in a sexy dress.

I'd love to be able to wear a sexy dress! However, after being close to 350 pounds, I have the skin issue going on. It's not near as bad as it could be...you can't tell under clothes I have excess skin, but with short sleeves or a short dress, it would show. And it's not pretty. I'm kind of a tomboy anyway, so I'm not too sad over having to cover up a little.

Hi Kat Marie: I need your help, I have a nephew who is about to turn 26 years old on Thanksgiving day and his current weight is almost 400lbs and he just cannot seem to do anything about his weight and I am 206 with extremely high blood pressure I would like to know what you did to lose your weight I was thinking that maybe me and him can help each other lose weight together because doing it by yourself can be terrible, any advice would be much appreciated.

My calories started around 1500 and eventually got down to 1200. I didn't have cheat days or cheat meals and did my best to stay on plan all the time. Not to say I didn't mess up sometimes, but I didn't let one wrong bite turn into a whole meal or day or week of bad eating.
Degamom...I didn't do anything special. Truly. I just ate healthy food and calorie counted. Added in exercise later. Light to moderate exercise. Healthy food, which for me means fresh vegetables, lean meats, fruits, some dairy and low carb. I stay away from things like pasta and breads. I didn't treat it like a diet at all. I treated it like the way I was going to eat for the rest of my life...and it worked. I still eat clean, and I love it. Every once in awhile I'll have a bakery item, or a not so healthy meal choice, if we go out to eat, but it's the rarity. Junk food is not allowed in my kitchen, even after the weight loss. It doesn't feel like a sacrifice anymore. It truly does become a lifestyle...as corny as that always sounded to me, lol.

lol! So I was looking at some of your previous posts and one really jumped out at me, the skipping breakfast one. I have found that i am starving throughout the day after i have had breakfast. I have thought about skipping breakfast and delaying starting eating for the day, but you always hear that it leads to over eating later on. It is good to know that it can work to help reduce the desire and overall hunger levels. Do you drink coffee or anything in the mornings/during the day before you start eating?

I drink decaf coffee in the morning. Usually just black. Every once in awhile I might add tablespoon of that coffeemate fat free 15 calorie creamer or a packet of Splenda.
Your body does get used to waiting to eat. I never get hungry till around 3 or so...if I'm busy, sometimes not till 5, but I don't like waiting that long because I start feeling tired. Then if you try to eat whole foods and stay away from the processed stuff, you can eat larger amounts of food and get plenty full. Basically, I eat between 3-8, sometimes I start a little earlier or end a little later. Some people can't sleep after eating...I'm just the opposite, I can't sleep if I feel empty or hungry.
You just have to do what works for you. It takes some time.

I'm just eating the way that feels good to me. At first, I was eating several small meals a day. It never felt right to me. It was like all I was doing was small snacks and never got a real meal in. Since I'm calorie counting and wasn't getting hungry till later in the day, I saved my calories and ate a real meal...a big meal. I'd still have calories left for two good sized snacks later in the evening. I like feeling full in the evening. For some reason I don't like to feel full during the day while I'm busy. I still eat like this to maintain and have had no problems for over two years with keeping the weight off.

This is great, proof positive that you can lose large amounts of weight and keep it off. I don't need to lose as much as you did, "only" 90 lbs or so, but it is still daunting. Also good to see that you don't need to kill yourself in the gym, either.

Calories in, calories out, it is the only way...

Thankyou for sharing your story!

Wow!!! I am starting at her starting weight. It's SO great to see someone accomplish such a dramatic weight loss without surgery. Not that there is anything wrong with the surgical option. I just am too afraid to do surgery, so I like to see people who have done or are doing it the way I will be doing it. :)

Awww, thanks y'all. It's feels awesome to inspire people with my weight loss.

It took me around a year and a half to get to a normal weight, I think. Losing the last vanity pounds took around 6 months. Those last few pounds are hard! I've actually lost around 220 pounds. I had lost a little weight before I joined 3FC and was probably close to 350 pounds. It was either 338 or 348...I can't even remember anymore! That seems like a lifetime ago!

WOW! CONGRATS!!! You look fabulous! You're a true inspiration, thank you very much for sharing your success pictures with us! :carrot:

Hope I am not butting in here. But I just wanted to say that the most important thing is to lose it healthfully. From my own expereince. Slow steady and healthfully is what works the best. Hope i was not giving unsolicited advice. But I did it the fast way for many years when I was younger. And I am still paying the price physically. So I hope you will continue on the great path you are on. you look beautiful, by the way
