Morning Ladies!

I do hope you don't mind me starting the weekend chat thread, me being the newbie and all:) Due to the time zones, I'm probably one of the first to rise for the day, and I may not get chance to post later, so ....

Managed to sleep well last night ... finally! And had a lovely lie-in this morning, so my batteries are re-charged for the weekend ahead!

Weighed in this morning and I'm pleased to report another 2lbs loss ... that's 9lbs in total, so far:D I'm just hoping that my dinner out this evening will not result in undoing my good work:^: But I am determined to choose wisely when it comes to what goes on my plate, and if it's not particularly SB friendly then I will have very small portions.

Matilda - Just to say, sorry to hear about your hubby's grandmother, but as you said, she was 98 and had a good life, which is what we all strive for.

Shrinkmybutt - Definitely go with the advice already given to you and get the SBD book. I've only recently started the SBD plan and, like you, I've always loved my carbs ... rice, pasta, potatoes, etc., but I can honestly say that, so far, this has worked for me. I haven't really had any cravings either, so I guess I've been very lucky, some people do and obviously everyone is different and we all cope differently. The SBD book is my bible at the moment ... I'm constantly referring to it and don't think I would have been able to follow the plan properly without reading it first. Good luck!

Good morning, Nichola. Congratulations on your 9 pound loss...that's great!!! South Beach is the ONLY thing I have found that actually worked for me and it seems that it's been the same way for a lot of others here. No doubt, if you follow the plan, you'll see results. :)

Anyway, I'm stuck working all weekend, so boooooo for that. Plus I get to stay at work a whole extra hour tonight. Yuck!!! Oh well, at least I have a job, right??? ;)

I don't really have much to say right now. I hope you ladies are having a wonderful weekend so far.

Nichola I second the congrats on the weight loss, good for you.

Shrinkmybutt, yep, get the book. I keep mine on the table in the living room and am always looking in it. I am even thinking of getting the SB cook book. I am entering the 6th week of the SB Plan, and I find myself even looking at choices and knowing what to do. My DH even has taken a closer look at what he is eating, skips white bread toast now and is eating more salads. I agree SB is a good plan.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday, I am doing some sewing and maybe go look at an Xbox. But enjoying the day, no stress.

Shrinkmybutt, yep, the book is the key to understanding the plan. After 2-1/2 years I'm still amazed at my progress and especially amazed that my DH has had a 100% turnaround, too.

Natasha, I'm working today, too! It's still the weekend!

Yesterday was run around stuff and today is my sis' birthday. I have to be at work in an hour so I have the pie she requested baked already. I'll have a piece tonight. It was funny-I had to use some sugar and it was hard in the canister because I haven't dipped in it for months! I also can't remember the last time I had a piece of pie-that's definitely progress!

Have a great day everyone! I'm hosting dinner so I'm going to be quite busy after work.

It's still dark as midnight outside, but we've been promised a mild and sunny day. A good day to finally get outside and get the rest of the flower beds cleaned up while Jake deals with the mountain of leaves that are starting to fall. The leaves are at their peak right now, covering the countryside with their glorious colors. :)

Nichola, Congratulations!!! My brother just got home from Okinawa about a month ago. He was there 3 years and is glad to be back in the "Land of Walmart."

Chickadeee, It's nice to see a smiling face this early in the morning. :)

Debbie, I don't even have any sugar in the house! I used the last of it to make simple syrup for the hummingbirds.

Linda, We re peaking here, too. It's beautiful! Jeff got the leaf-blower out on Wednesday, and it rained all day Thursday. You can't even tell where the sidewalk is! He should have checked the forecast. ;)

It's going to be a fun and exciting day in Beautiful Alabama. This morning, Auston and I are going to the Veteran's Day parade. Auston is always disappointed in Alabama parades after seeing Louisiana parades. :lol: This afternoon, we are going to see Puss in Boots. I'm a huge Shrek fan, so I'm expecting great things. Tonight, we are having ribs, sweet potatoes, and 3 bean salad and watching the Bama/LSU game. Jeff and I went to Sam's Club last night to look at TVs. There is a 70 inch model. 70 inches!!! Crazy! But, that would be so much fun to watch the game! :)

Chelby - True confession: we replaced our broken big screen with a smaller 60+ one from Costco but found it too small so DH exchanged it for the 70'' when it went on sale. But, we do watch from allllll the way across the basement when we exercise.

I have dinner out tonight with friends. I've already chosen my meal off the menu. We just got invited to brunch tomorrow to celebrate my nephew's birthday and that menu was much harder to choose from between trying to stay SB friendly AND cholesterol friendly. In just a few hours I get to call Canyon Ranch to sign up for my "service" when I'm there in 4 weeks. I'm thinking lots of massages! It's a major planning job because we try to sort of coordinate schedules among the travelers so we can eat meals together when there.

Good morning :coffee2: We were awake early but are moving slowly. It's nice to have a relaxing start. I'm off to pick-up the first winter CSA order this morning. I'm so excited.

Nichola - thanks for getting us going :) Congratulations on your success so far.

Natasha - It's definitely true for me too. I dieted on and off for more than 30 years before finding SBD. It's still work but cleaning up the carbs made all the difference for me. Hope you have something fun squeezed into your work weekend.

Chickadee - that is a nice picture :) We have a Wii and I love it. Does the XBOx have fitness and sports games too? Around here that gets me through the winter. I just get so sick of the treadmill and bike every day. I love the variety of a few Wii games.

Debbie - Enjoy your family time. I have to ask, what kind of pie? Homemade pie is one thing I might go off plan for, just one piece and I'd try not to eat all the crust. I think I did have one piece of strawberry rhubarb last spring. We only have sugar in the house for the hummingbirds. That reminds me, I have to dump what's left. I'm sure it won't be good next summer. Do you have some time to relax this weekend too?

Cottage - Our leaves are long gone but I should get out there and mulch the last batch. Maybe a little yard time here too :) Enjoy the sunshine

Chel - I'll be interested to hear what you think of Puss and Boots. We loved Shrek too but this one was below our radar.
Sounds like a fun Mom day :)

It's chores and errands around here today. I think DW still wants to go to the coast tomorrow. Time to get moving so I can get to the CSA pick-up promptly at 9.

Karen, If we put a 70" in our living room, it will be like sitting in the front row of the movie theater. :yikes: What we will probably do is get the 60" to replace our 42". Merry Christmas to US! :D

Hey all,
Glad to see everyone's up and at 'em! We're fairly busy today. I think my husband is going to take our son into the city to St. Patrick's to light a candle for his grandmother, and I'm going to do errands and exercise. We have friends and their kids coming over at 4 for drinks and apps. Then we'll probably just watch a movie or something later. Hope everyone has a great day...

Good morning!
Just as I was getting back into the swing of things and posting, we lost electricity for 7 days. The house is a mess, but I have my daughter's last soccer game today to go to, so it will have to wait until tomorrow. Their team is undefeated in their conference and if they win today, will end with a perfect season. That would be a nice way to end her soccer career, as she graduates college in May.
I would like to say I've lost some weight, but after this week of canned and fast food, it's very unlikely. Time to stock the fridge with veggies and fruit.

As for me, I am packing and laundry doing for Florida tomorrow. I get in by 10a and have to wait for DW to arrive at noon (it's her work trip), then off to the hotel. It turns out to be $10/day for the fitness center but I just may pay it. Depending on the weather and the pool!

Off to pack. I hope I've got the will power as I walk through the park (Islands of Adventure). Good news is that I think I will fit in ALL the rides - I am the same weight now that I was two years ago when I went for my birthday. Harry Potter Park is new but they reused the old rides so I should be fine!

I feel like I won the lottery - we got spinach and broccoli fresh from the fall plantings, lots of garlic & onions for storage, turnips, purple and green cabbage, romaine, basil pesto and salsa (they make all their own stuff. you can also order baked goods but I resisted) oh and 2 dozen eggs from the happy chickens in the field next to the stand. I'm very picky about eggs and I've always been sad when they close for the season. I'm so excited that we can get good eggs all winter. They are putting a huge greenhouse up for the winter so greens all winter!

Chris - welcome back. Happy to hear your power is finally back. My DD was supposed to visit friends in CT but their power has been out too. That's a long stretch to work around.

Ruth - hope you're feeling better now and enjoying a sunny day

Whew! That was a bit of a ride but I'm back to alleged "normal" now. Sorry to bail out on comments.

It certainly is a gorgeous day out there but I am not going to do much physical stuff today. Tonight some friends and I are going to a concert by a local group - it's country, rock and gospel and is a fund-raiser. I'll wear my hearing aids but remove them if it's too loud.

Right now? My planned lunch and a wee nap I think.

Cyndi, when we were out shopping, we also stopped at a farmers market and they had all brocolli, radishes, all kinds of squash(spagetti too) at .39 a lb. Stocked up and will freeze some for later. Prunes are on the Phase 2 list. Looks like you can have 4.

I've got winter squash in my back hall too. It's my cold storage area. Unfortunately I waited too long for the spaghetti squash so none of those. That reminds me - a bushel of apples are waiting to be made into sauce. Better get to it!

HI all - making a make-shift dinner (basically, throw together whatchu got) and packing. Last load of laundry in. We feel bad for leaving the cats for 4 days (though we are here for a few hours of Sunday and get back Wed night). Guilt, leftover from my Catholic school days!

I hopped on the scale tonight and it says I've lost a pound! I am hoping it still reads that at 5a when I jump on before I leave.

I will bring my computer and check in daily.

Battling with cravings right now...must go cook dinner.

Good morning :coffee2: I left my clocks on the "old" time so we are up and at'em. We were very productive yesterday -lots of chores and prep for the week ahead. Today we are using our extra hour to head to PI and do some migration birding and ocean walking. Then an early dinner at the raw food restaurant that DW loves before heading back home. Hope your Sunday is as much fun as ours will be.

Thanks for the congratulations on my weight loss!:)

Well, I got through dinner at my friend's house last night ... but I can't say I did too well:( Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing that was SB friendly, seriously, nothing! I was thinking that there would at least be a salad, or some veggies to pile on my plate, but no! She cooked Thai food ... starter was deep fried Thai spring rolls ... 2 mains, Thai red curry with pork & potatoes (I picked out just a couple of pieces of the pork and ate that!), and a chicken dish with cilantro, ginger & chili, which I guessed was possibly the better option, so I had a small serving of that as it didn't seem to be in a rich coconut sauce, unlike the red curry! Dessert was individual creme brulee, so I felt bad about not having one ... thankfully they were small! Oh, and I'm afraid I couldn't say no to the wine!:o Anyway, what's done is done ... thankfully, it doesn't seem to have triggered any cravings, and I'm very much back on plan today!

I'm getting lots of support at home with staying on plan ... hubby is diabetic (type 2) and so SBD is ideal for him too, and my son is on a bit of a health kick at the moment, trying to get himself fit again after spending the last few years at university and eating crap!:p He's amazed that I've lost 9lbs "just by cutting out crap carbs" as he put it ... so he says from tomorrow he's following SBD too:D

I'm having a very lazy Sunday today as we were out late last night and I find that I can't cope with late nights anymore ... it seems to take me a while to get over them ... I guess it's something to do with getting older!:(

Nichola, it sounds like you did just great with the dinner. You made the best choices you could make..considering. Just getting right back on plan IS the key. I have found that as I've lost more weight many of my friends have actually asked "what" I eat and have been supportive in planning around that.

Cyndi, have fun today! Thx for the clock reminder. BTW-pie was 1/2 pumpkin and 1/2 pecan with a gluten free crust. I subbed agave so it was pretty user friendly. I did only have 1 piece.

chickadeee, you reminded me I have a sewing project I'd like to try. It's a cute fleece jacket made entirely with the serger.

chris, good to hear from you! 7 days w/o power must have been interesting.

Karen, Canyon Ranch and massages sound great!

It's really windy this morning and I've got indoor projects in mind. First I'll empty the dishwashers and finish tidying up from the party. Our meal was so healthy and satisfying. It was really liberating to have such a healthy meal then enjoy a dessert. It was noticably different than the old days when everything in a special meal was an indulgence THEN it got topped off with desserts which seemed to come in multiples.

Good morning girls,

Here I sit at what use to be 4:45 and it is now really 3:45. It will take a week for my body to get use to the change in time. I have always been an early riser.

Nicola, sounds like dinner went good for you. The most important thing is to enjoy time with family and friends and have a good time. It sounds like you were aware of the good and bad in the meal, and you made due.

Debbie, I have owned a serger for over 10 yrs, used it twice. I have been working on quilt blocks for a quilt top. I love to make quilts. I find it relaxing and I esp like making them using repo civil war fabrics from like the 1800's. Your jacket sounds nice, would like to see a picture of it, I just did a quilt with a fleece backing.

I am changing my weigh in day to Sundays, and I already know it won't be good, but it is what it is. Can't wait till I am allowed to get a ticker in my signature.

Was looking forward to an extra hour of sleep but the four-legged dictators had other ideas. I think it was pay-back for leaving them on their own last night while I was out enjoying the band.

My scale continues to go the wrong way and I truly don't know why. So very discouraging. I am assuming it's water weight as my feet and ankles are very swollen but ... why? Maybe I should just drink pine floats for a week or so. (That's a toothpick floating in a glass of water!)

Church this morning and then I have to wrestle my snow tires (on the rims) out of the barn and into the car for my Tuesday appointment. There will be no time for that tomorrow. After that, I have to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph for our Village Remembrance Day Service. After that it's an early "Girls" & Kids Dinner at Heather's place. I am bringing the desert which will probably be fruit salad with cookies for the kids.

I sound crabby so am gong to get another coffee and chill with the doggage for a bit until the house warms up and my attitude improves.

Yep, I'm with the other ladies, my body was not told about daylight savings. Since the kids had a very active day yesterday, it'll be good to let them sleep in.

On Friday I learned of a 5K a friend's group was running, so our whole family did it! I ran it ("run"...I'm quite slow), and everyone else ran/walked. I was really proud of DS...he did it in 44 minutes by himself! His good friend, which I would've thought would leave DS in the dust, came in nearly last. So, I'm proud of DS taking off on his own! His friend's dad, who is going thru some yucky times right now, has lost over 100 lbs this year!! WOW!

Today we join our new church, and then who-knows-what afterwards. If it's a pretty day, maybe we'll take off to play in the woods?! I can't believe the fall colors are still out!

Good morning,

Sounds like a few of us are up and add it quite early with the time change. Yesterday DH and I went to St. Louis for the Veterans Day Parade and then came home, cleaned and did laundry. Had the house to myself as DH went to a show with a buddy, DD2 and DS had to work and DD2 had a sleepover. Watched a couple of movies on Netflix, I may be weird but I just don't find a lot of good things to watch on it.

Today is Church and then :shrug: Have a great Sunday everyone

I'm back, I got my ticker, set it up so hope it shows in my signature.

I did my weekly weight and measurements. Didn't lose any weight according to the scale, but I lost 4 inches overall. Is that possible? I mean something has to be happening somewhere. I will probably remeasure, just to be sure.

I feel good that the scale didn't go up, and I feel good about my frame of mind with SB.

It's the NY Marathon today but we're not going...I committed to volunteering at church so we can't. Woke up with the sun which was 6 rather than 7! Now I just ate breakfast and I'm getting ready to go out and exercise before church. Not much else on the plate for today - a playground playdate at 2pm, then just getting ready for the week. Good Morning-

Half way through the weekend that was supposed to be productive and have yet to cross anything off the to do list. Just could not get motivated yesterday.

Going to try the Taco Bake recipe tonight. I have been living on Crack Slaw for a week and a half...it is definitely time to move on! I was hoping to get to the gym today,but it looks like raking leaves and pine straw is going to be my activity.

Off to be productive!

Happy Sunday. Bama lost -- Roll Tide anyway! :) We stayed up late last night with the game. I told hubby not to wake me up to go to the flea market. He said I was time-changing the wrong way. I did get up without a problem. :lol:

My MIL had a wound-vac for an open wound left after surgery. After two months, it finally came off Friday. She and I are going shopping this afternoon. Hopefully, she is strong enough to shop -- which is one of her favorite things.

Ruth, My doctor told me to drink water with lemon and unsweetened cranberry juice as a natural diuretic. Maybe that will help?

Afternoon, ladies. Still at work for the weekend, so no time for personals...just wanted to pop in and say hello. I signed up for my November 5K last night, so I'm officially just 1 registration away from my goal this year of doing a 5K every month...woot woot!!! :) It's funny to think about it b/c it sounds like something so little but when you add it all up, that's over 37 miles worth of walking. I had hoped to be in good enough shape to try a half-marathon in December, but that's definitely not in the cards right now. Just gives me something to shoot for next year, right??? ;)

I am SO ready for Thanksgiving, ladies...how about you??? It's not even all the yummy food (okay, my mom's dressing and gravy may be SOME of it...ummm, a lot of it) but I just love being w/ family and enjoying that time together. Unfortunately I'm scheduled to work that night so I don't get the lazy time on the couch afterwards, but it'll be okay.

Anyway, hope everybody is doing well.
