Does anyone bake their own bread? I usually use 1 - 3 T of honey or molasses in my breads. How far can I cut this and still get the yeast to activate?

RPP, first of, I have to say YEAH!!!! ANOTHER MIAMI PERSON!!!!! Geez, I thought I was the only person in Miami doing SB!

Okay, now, I'm not a baker, heck I don't even like to cook, BUT, I have lots and lots and lots of books and as I understand it, you actually don't need honey in many bread recipes, I think, without pulling out my info at this time, it helps the yeast activate better. BUT, I think, once again, depending on the bread, you can cut back, or if you can get some agave nectar, you can use this measure-for-measure in place of honey (WHOLE FOODS & WILD OATS now carry this).

Please join us on the SB WEEKLY SUPPORT BOARD, we have a slew of Floridians on the board and we'd love to have another one:D Just find the most recent board (all are dated) and make sure you use the QUICK REPLY BOX at the bottom of the page, or his POST REPLY, just don't hit new thread.

Whereabouts in Miami are you? I'm in W. Kendall:D

Hi Debbie,

I'm in Pinecrest. I was just in Wild Oats today, I wish I had asked this question yesterday! LOL

I just started SB, I'll probably have lots of questions. It's nice to have this board as a resource!

If you proof the yeast with just a teaspoon of honey, it should work. I use agave for my bread, and it works great. I just sub agave for the honey...which is about 3 T per recipe.

I'm out near Tamiami Airport area, near Crossings, out near the Hammocks, that general area. Def. not far!

My e-mail is Debelli@AOL.com, just put SB in the subject matter if you do e-mail, otherwise I tend not to open it. Would love to help in any way!!!:D
