Not "new" to 3fc, but yo-yoed a bit since 2008. When I first joined I was at 220. Came back in 2009 at 230. Eventually got up to 250. Finally had my light bulb moment in late May of this year and buckled down. Viewing it as a lifestyle change and not a diet (uk, I hate that word) has helped tremendously.
By counting calories and a bit of exercising, I have lost 38 pounds with 40+ more to go.
These last few weeks have been hard mentally and I'm looking to rededicate myself this month.
Thought I'd introduce myself to this part of the forum and join the Thanksgiving challenge!
Congrats on your weight loss success! I can totally relate to having hard mental weeks when it comes to eating healthier. I have those just about every week, lol.
Congratulations Kat. I know how you feel on needed to get back into it...not that we've stopped.... This week I'm buckling down. I know I don't have to be strict forever...that is getting me through the week thus far. Continued good luck to you.
Welcome, and congrats on your weight loss! I've had many "ah-ha" moments where I've decided to buckle down, and I'm committed that Sept 2011 was my final one. Go us!
Congrats, Kat!! That's fantastic!! Keep up the great work! Are you mostly just focusing on calorie counting right now? I see that you said you do a little bit of exercising. Just curious what you feel has helped you most. I like to hear everyone's methods. Congratulations again!
Noelle- for the first 2 months it was strictly calorie counting and eating as clean as possible. I had fractured elbows so I couldn't exercise. I have been steadily increasing the exercise (walking, jogging, Pilates, hand weights) since mid-August. October wasn't a good exercise month, but I need to increase exercise to help my body become healthier. I defintely notice a difference in my weight loss when I exercise.
Way to go, Kat! This is what I'm trying to do now to lose the 60 pounds that I gained in the last few years - view this as a lifestyle and not a diet. It's especially true for me because I'm a vegetarian and have wanted to be a vegan for a while now. I made the mistake of going vegan with some extremely rigid plans (like McDougall and Eat To Live, which restrict fat intake to 5-10% of calories and advocate no added fats of any kind) because in my mind, losing weight means rigid eating.
But I've just grown tired of dieting and binging and now I'm trying a new approach (for me) - putting "vegan" first and "diet" last. I'm focusing on eating vegan foods and I'm keeping an eye on my calorie count but not restricting fats or other foods. And I'm allowing myself some mild "junk food", like whole wheat pretzels and dark chocolate, in small amounts, but daily, and keeping it within my calorie range. So far I'm feeling much more energetic, satisfied, not deprived, and I have motivation to exercise every day and also get to the things that I love and have been putting off lately (like creative writing).
