Good Morning:sunny:

Happy Saturday morning! It's the last weekend of October. We're enjoying :coffee: before we hit the road and head East over the passes. The weather is supposed to be good and I have to work at 7am. Yesterday was a whirlwind so I'm looking forward to a quiet evening at home. It will be interesting to see if the snow has melted while we've been gone. I did go out to the CSA and picked some wonderful veggies and greens so I'll have to think of an easy OP meal for tonight when I'm sure I won't feel like cooking.

What's on your agenda this weekend?? Stop by and say hi :cofdate:

Andů..have a great weekend everyone!

Good morning, Debbie aka Traveling Lady! I'm going to sit and sip my coffee and wish you safe trip vibes. Sure hope the **** is gone when you get to the "other side".

Another very cold night so today will definitely be garden tidying. We are actually going to have several days of sunshine :sunny: which will be nice. There's even a high of 55F predicted for Wednesday. There's nothing on today's schedule except self-inflicted tasks so it should be a good day.

The H. candy is still in the car trunk but I got attacked by some cookies from the freezer last night! Today has to be super-clean eating because I am heading for that slippery slope and may never get my old ticker back. Too bad it's so hard to lose and so easy to gain.

Right now though: more coffee, some dog cuddling and plan the day's menu. Come and chat a bit before you leap into the weekend. :cofdate:

I'm gonna treat myself to a lovely thick rare steak for my tea ...with loads of salad on the side ...looking forward to it already. As i'm on phase 1 no glass of wine to go with it but only 10 days till phase 2 :) I live in England and it's X Factor night over here so will be enjoying that with a few glasses of water :) Have a great day everyone!!

:coffee: Good morning Deb and Ruth, and to those to come.

The weather is miserable here, the rain is coming down steady right now, and supposed to get heavier and windier before it changes to snow, and now they're saying we can expect up to 12". I have to admit that I'm actually looking forward to it, since it's happening on a weekend. We may have jinxed it, though, since Jake has the snowthrower primed to go and the snow shovels are by the door. ;)

I gathered the last of the peppers yesterday before pulling up the plants and adding them and the eggplant bushes to the garden compost. Then I rototilled the soil and put it to bed for the winter. All that's left in there are my chard and rhubarb. I probably should have gotten to the flower beds, but all my annuals are still blooming beautifully and I just didn't have the heart to pull them up. It will be interesting to see how they fare under a blanket of snow.

I have plans to make some pumpkin granola today and a nice pot of pumpkin/black bean chili. Who wants to come for supper?

Good afternoon, kittykat!

10-29-2011, 08:05 AM
Top of the morning everyone! It is 30 degrees here and chilly. The deer have been raiding what is left our garden, I got some pics on our outdoor camera.

Enjoying my cup of coffee and thinking about getting breakfast going.

Pumpkin Granola sounds wonderful and pumpkin black bean chili, never heard of it, if I bring you a pumpkin will you give me a cooking lesson?

Today, I am heading out to a big fabric sale and some window shopping, just to get out and about. Then back home to plan my week.

Happy Saturday to everyone.

Good morning, ladies...hope you are doing well. I'm about to head off to bed...just waiting on my spaghetti squash to get done cooking. Got the Georgia/Florida game today...can't wait to see us kick some Gator tail!!! :)

So, got a question. I'm planning on making a sugar-free low-carb cheesecake today and I was wondering if anybody knows if I could make a successful pumpkin cheesecake using just pumpkin pie spice instead of canned pumpkin??? I mean, in theory it sounds like it would work...but I just don't know. Any ideas???

Good morning :coffee2: My new computer arrived yesterday afternoon and I'm spending lots of time getting it set and configured the way I like. Today we will see if we can recover much from my old computer :crossed: So far I love my new one. It's so tiny and light weight it's going to be perfect on the road. At home it's plugged into all my desk stuff so just like having a desktop. My back absolutely insists I work at a desk for long stretches so I think this is the perfect solution. This morning we will head into town to find a sleeve for it and shop ahead of the monster storm

Debbie - No more picking here though we joined a new winter CSA. What did you pick?

Ruth - I am so with you trying to get myself back in line. Something about the darker days and the cool weather just sends me over the edge. I know we can do this!

Kittykat - I love a good salad. Enjoy your evening

Cottage - I am so not looking forward to this weather and would be very happy to send mine to you, just to make sure you get enough. I like being helpful ;) I didn't get to the chili yesterday so that's going in my crockpot too. Luckily I have a gas stove so if we lose power I can finish it off on there. I've also got a giant butternut that needs to be used some I'll roast that on the side.

Speaking of weather, guess I should get moving. Lots of prep to do for a storm like this one. The trees are still leafed out so big risk of power outages, always fun in the country. Unfortunately I had shopping planned today so I need to brave the crowds. :crossed: I just hope the power stays on.

ETA: :wave; good morning Chickadee

Natasha - Maybe I need more coffee but I'm not sure what you're asking (okay, I definitely need more coffee). You could make a regular cheesecake with pumpkin pie spice but it wouldn't be pumpkin just spicy. Sounds kind of good actually. Maybe someone else will have a better answer. Enjoy your game!

10-29-2011, 08:21 AM
Chickadeee, I just use a basic chili recipe, except I use veggie crumbles in place of ground meat, black beans in place of kidney beans, and stir in a can of pumpkin puree. Easy and delicious!

Natasha, I'm not sure if just using pumpkin pie spice would do the trick or not. Sorry I'm not of much help.

Cyndi, thanks for the offer of sharing your extra snow, but I think we're going to have plenty of our own. Enjoy your shopping experience, and have fun playing with your new toy! Let's hope the power holds for both of us! :crossed:

10-29-2011, 08:35 AM
This talk of chili has me thinking about cleaning out the freezer in the top of my fridge. I have three meals of chili there that needs to be pitched. It just doesn't taste right. I need to make some GOOD chili for the stash. I hate to throw out food but ...

I sure hope the power stays on for the East Coasters.

10-29-2011, 08:43 AM
morning all,

My body just woke up. Not to say I am not tired but I am somewhat awake. I think it's hysterical that you all are awake and at 'em! How do you do it?

Not much on the docket for me this weekend aside from switching out summer for winter clothes (what little I have) and unpacking those last two pesky boxes. And hitting the gym (Which will make twice this week, YAY!)

It's snowing out and there is fog rolling off the pond!!!

Cyn - what type of computer did you wind up going with?
Natasha - no clue but it sounds doable!
Chick - sounds like a great day to me!
Cottage -I'd come for supper if your hubby clears the snow away for the entire way up :lol3:
Kitty - Hope you enjoyed the steak!
Ruth - sending you :dust: I know how you feel!
Debbie - have a good one! Thanks for starting us up!

I am off. I wish I had thought to buy half and half yesterday! Wonder what the 1st snow will bring as far as the roads and crazy drivers go? Oye!

10-29-2011, 09:00 AM
Hey all,
Wow, such activity before 8am! Hope everyone is having a great day already. Cottage, it has not started raining here yet, but it's coming I'm sure, although the snow is supposed to miss the city. Tomorrow's going to be int he 50's so even if it arrived, it would melt. This morning I'm taking my son on a trip on the Staten Island ferry just for fun, and then this afternoon my husband is going to make my son's halloween costume with him (he's going to be the Leaning Tower of Pisa). Theoretically we are going to a children's Halloween party this afternoon. It will be a chill day. I painted my kitchen cabinet doors last night, so I've got to do some touch ups there and just some 'niggles' as Ruth would say! Hope everyone has a fantabulous day.

10-29-2011, 09:35 AM

We made it-exactly 2 hours...roads dry, still a little snow left here. I've caught up with everyone, may get back later.

Cyndi, thought of you as we enjoyed our Indigo Girls cruising over the Divide.

I have 10 min to get dressed, make my smoothie and head out the door. It's doable!

10-29-2011, 09:37 AM
Cyndi, thought of you as we enjoyed our Indigo Girls cruising over the Divide.

Best concert ever - IG at a tiny outdoor theater in Northampton, perfect in so many ways. The audience got them off their playlist and down memory lane. It was so much fun!

10-29-2011, 10:01 AM
Happy Saturday! I actually slept in this morning -- 7:15! Wow!

Debbie, You have already made a road trip today? You are Super Woman!

Ruth, Hooray for the candy in the trunk! We live in the 'boondocks', so no Trick-or-Treaters here.

Kitty, A thick, rare steak sounds delightful! Yum!

Linda, 12 inches of snow... Oh my!

Natasha, Hubs is a football fan, too. We are excited about the Bama/LSU game next weekend.

Deee, The deer ruined our pumpkin patch last year. We didn't plant this year.

Cyndi, Stay warm this weekend!

Mathilda, Seeing the Macy's Parade is on my Bucket List.

It's going to be a crazy busy weekend again. Last night, Jeff and I set up friends on a blind date. We all went on a double date. It was too much fun. I think they liked each other. Yay! :)

Today, I have a baby shower at 2. Auston and I are going to a downtown Halloween festival after that. It is absolutely beautiful outside -- high around 60.

I'm thinking of making a pot of soup for tonight. It's going to be a good weekend. :)

10-29-2011, 11:10 AM
OMG worst temptation ever last night and this oldest daughter went to her Grandma's (her Dads side) and she brought home 4 frosted cookies.....those are my favorite!!!! So far so good staying strong and I said the sooner they are eaten by others the better!

10-29-2011, 11:56 AM
quick hello from LA. busy doing stuff with and for my son. today is tailgate at his frat then game. marathon runs by hotel tomorrow so we need to move car tonight or get stuck in parking lot! not easy feat in downtown LA. eating is horrible; just being honest. if we'd gone to older son's parent weekend, we'd be in snow storm now! will catch up monday. hugs.

10-29-2011, 01:06 PM
pear fairy - you can do it. Remember someday you may treat yourself with a cookie, just not yet.

I surprized myself to day, after I was done shopping, I am thinking lunch and instead of go to fast food places, I went to the grocery store and picked up fixings for a salad to eat when I get home and stuff for chili. It amazed me that I did that.

10-29-2011, 03:44 PM
Hello all,

It's been exciting around here with the St. Louis Cardinals winning the World Series last night, I think we will be going to the parade tomorrow.

Today DD2 had her last soccer game, last night I took her and her BFF to another town's Halloween party in the downtown main street area, lots of fun.

Sounds like everyone is doing well. I have to buy the H candy today, I waited so I wouldn't be tempted. I may have to keep in the trunk like Ruth lol.

Have a great weekend everyone

10-29-2011, 04:34 PM
I am thankful my little one is pretty picky with Halloween candy so what she doesn't want and what the husband doesn't want will go straight to work to give! That way I won't be tempted by it!

Heading out soon to grocery store to pick up more supplies including a rotisserie chicken for dinner tonight and then the sf fudgesicles and natural pb so I can make me a pb cup tonight!!!

10-30-2011, 07:49 AM
Brrrrrrrrrr! It's a morning for hot coffee and oatmeal to warm my innards! I just switched on the porch light and peeked outside, and it doesn't look too bad. We only got a few inches, but the roads are coated with black ice and we won't be going anywhere for a while.

I should go up and have my shower now, while the coffee is brewing. Be back in a few!

10-30-2011, 07:58 AM
Good morning. There is a huge whiteness when I get up on top of my pine tree and look South. How weird to have a dump of snow in October! I'm glad to see Cottage has checked in. Be careful out there until the snow and ice melts.

Strange day at home yesterday, puttering away at niggles, but did have a lovely afternoon nap with wee Jazz. I seldom go upstairs int he afternoon but the minute I set foot on the first step, he's up there ahead of me warming the bed. Aside from the usual accounting backlog (which is getting smaller), there's another "me" day ahead. It's been a lovely quiet week which is just as well as I'm not feeling my usual perky self. Halloween candy indulgences didn't help that, I'm sure.

Yesterday I did pulled pork in the slow cooker but just was not "up" for having it for supper. I had no idea a 3 pound roast would make so much! I am going to freeze some of it in individual servings for the quickie meal stash and perhaps have Liz and her crew down for sinner tonight. I have gorgeous cabbage from my garden that will make a super coleslaw.

I must be feeling better if I'm talking food again!

Have a great Sunday, day of rest or not!

10-30-2011, 08:00 AM
It is a beautiful, crisp morning out here too! I waddled in my PJ's and fuzzy socks (with shoes on of course) to grab the newspaper. I forgot how everything is so quiet in the snow, and how reflective it is so that everything glows. Then the neighbor's beagles started barking and broke the silence!

I should make some soups this week, and I'm just not in the mood (!). I need to dig thru the recipe section to find something new to get excited about!

Looking forward to seeing everyone check in...

Good Morning.

This morning I cheated, I got on the scale (I hate that thing - it tells me the opposite of how I feel.)

At this point I would say I am maintaining. And I am only in P2. I started SB on Oct 3rd, so tomorrow it will be 4 weeks. I have lost 9 lbs. But I know I have lost some inches.

I have given up all the bad carbs (chips, donunts, cookies, etc and sugar - the bad stuff, little candy bars, ice cream), I think maybe I am eating too much for portions on the SB.

Then I think this over, 9 pounds is alot to lose in 4 weeks, I think about how long it took me to gain it. And I know it is not water weight, not after 4 weeks. And a slow loss is a good loss, right.

Exercise is what is missing for me. And I am afraid of it, becasue I have a lower back issue, that even a walking program can tigger, then I suffer for days til it settles down. I watched one of those programs on TV last night, where someone hires a trainer and they help them for 4 months, lots of gym workouts. I cannot hire a trainer and I could not see myself jogging at 8 miles an hour. So, I need to find a medium level of exercise, just plain walking with no added Aerobics, those moves are what gets me in the back.

I am sorry that I am just rambling on and on, but you guys have more experience with SB than me, so just looking for comments. Is there a portion control with SB, like 1/2 cup salad, 1/2 green beans as an example, or are portions open as long as it is on the plan?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday, I am not giving up, I guess I need some encouragement that I am on track.

10-30-2011, 08:01 AM
for the quickie meal stash and perhaps have Liz and her crew down for sinner tonight.

THAT is an awesome typo, ms. Ruth!

10-30-2011, 08:15 AM
Wow, I've been digging out my boots and you've all been posting :) Good morning :coffee2: We got about a foot of snow here, power was out at least three times but so far all is well this morning. I'm feeling the crazy urge to go out and grab a few pics. Be back later

10-30-2011, 08:18 AM
THAT is an awesome typo, ms. Ruth!

Well, it could be fun. Her husband is a real hunk!

10-30-2011, 08:32 AM
 Ruth, we know you really meant! Naughty girl!

I'm glad everyone has survived the Octobersnow so far, but I'll be relieved once everyone checks in.

10-30-2011, 08:41 AM
Cottage, glad to hear you are ok and did not lose power. I heard some parts of PA and NJ got 16-18 inches! In the city we got about 3 but then it turned to rain. I guess alot of people lost power here too, even though we didn't get that much snow.

Today: church in the am and then we have to drive into the city to pick up a new mattress for my son's new bed. We'll probably eat lunch in the city too, and then come home and I've got to get planning my menus for the week so I can get back on track. Hope everyone's keeping warm~

10-30-2011, 09:00 AM
Good Morning:sunny:

Glad to hear everyone is faring well with all the snow so far. Definitely a good day to stay home if the roads are icy!

I did sleep a good bit and am taking a brief moment to check in before getting back to organizing and putting away so DH (and I) can clean. After we finish here we're off to mom's for a repeat.

Gotta run-just heard Kirk come in the back door...he's been in the shop.

10-30-2011, 12:25 PM
morning all,

Snuggling with the cats right now - DW is not feeling well and is back in bed. Snow has melted (I think we got 2 inches - Snowtober is a first in the DC area since like, 1917!!) and I am debating what to do - be a good wife and do the dishes and laundry for DW or not. Decisions, decisions!

I think it's back to another cup of coffee for now. Happy Sunday!

10-30-2011, 12:41 PM
Morning, ladies. :) Hope you're all doing well and surviving any snowstorms you might be dealing with. Oddly enough, still no snow in Georgia. LOL Yeah yeah, I know.

Looks like going back to Phase I was the right decision. As of yesterday I was down 3.5 pounds (and that's w/ it being TOM, too). I tell ya, though, it's a lot harder going BACK to Phase I than it is starting it, LOL

Anywho, about to head out for the day. Hope you ladies are having a great weekend!!!

10-30-2011, 01:24 PM
Good Morning,

All you Northeastern Chickies -- Stay warm and dry! I wish I could blow some beautiful sunshine your way. It was in the 30s this morning, but going to 65 today. It really is lovely.

Chickadee, 9 pounds in 4 weeks is excellent! Phase 2 always slows down the weight-loss. I do not measure or limit Ph1 foods -- other than nuts and cheese, but I have to be very careful with grains.

Twynn, The silence is my favorite part of snow, too. It happens rarely around here...

I had awful dreams last night and was up at 3:00 this morning. There will be a nap in my future. I'm taking Auston to a Trunk-or-Treat tonight. If I can resist donuts, I can certainly resist candy. ;)
