Default Anyone know why the water weight gain when you first start dieting?

I started on WW and with exercise this week, which also means that I went from drinking too little water to drinking a more healthy 8 - 12 glasses a day. The last two mornings, the scale has shown a ballooning in weight, which can only be water. I'm not upset about this at all, because I know I have stuck exactly to plan, it's not fat, and it will all even itself out soon, but I do have a couple of questions....

What causes that to happen/why does it happen? How long does it usually take the body to regulate itself so that the scale will reflect the fat you're actually losing?

Morning. I was kind of surprised by the water gain as well but I read that your muscles retain water for the micro-repairs from the increased working out.

Also, there is a chance you still aren't actually drinking enough for the sweating. Depends on you though.

Well, I did read that at my weight, you should be drinking even more than the 8-12 glasses, so I'll try to step it up today. Maybe that will help.
