Good Morning Ladies:)
I had a surprising phone call yesterday afternoon I thought it was my DD as she sometimes comes in private caller, but it was my doctor with my bone density test results. While I had him on the phone I told him about my shortness of breath while walking and he told me to hold on and the next thing I heard was the receptionist making an appointment for me today at 3 :15 this afternoon. I was so happy to hear his voice,he was a God sent.I now know I can go into this colonoscopy without any worry.
RHONDA-Thanks for the new pages.

That is great news Maryann. I hope he can put your mind at ease, or at least treat whatever is wrong.
I have had a long day already, having had tap practice, followed by a tap lesson to learn some new dances. We're having trouble with the starter on the car so I've had to cancel my gym appointment this afternoon, and I think that's probably OK. I welcome some rest.
10-17-2011, 08:16 PM
Hi there. I'm leaving for OA in a few minutes. We've been gone most of the day visiting folks. I'll be subbing the rest of the week, so I prob won't get here much.
Maryann, I'm glad your doctor called. I like that personal touch, too.
Nancy, I hope you find the right church for you. That's sad that your former church wasn't there for you and Robin.
Rhonda, I think it's wonderful you are enjoying tap dancing. Makes me smile.
Got to run. I'll catch ya'll later.
10-17-2011, 08:37 PM
Sandra's note reminds me...Nancy, do you know the pastor at the church well enough to tell him/her about your disappointments? I know it's difficult to do, but sometimes people don't "get it" until educated. After my husband died, I talked to his doctor and told him some of the frustrations we had felt. It was hard to do, but he thanked me for it and said he had learned.
10-17-2011, 11:18 PM
Hey chicks. Been shopping all day. It's a long trip into TN and we got home at 9 pm. I wish we had more shopping closer. Had a good day with my daughter.
Maryann, glad you were able to get in to see the dr. so quickly. Hope it's nothing too serious. How was your bone density? I'm due again next spring for mine.
Rhonda, thanks for starting the weekly thread. A day of rest is good.
Sandra, hope your OA meeting was good.
Nancy, I haven't been taking my heart meds daily, like I should. I have CAD and the angina is expected. I don't have it very often and when I do, it takes me a while to remember to take the nitro. I know the drill, and if you remember, the last trip I made to ER with angina, my BP spiked to 226/103 and they sent me home, instead of keeping me overnight for observation. My head felt like it was going to explode and they just ignored me when I told them. I appreciate your concern.
10-18-2011, 12:17 AM
226/103 and they sent you home! Wow. DH's went up like that once in the MDs office and she gave him some pills and wouldn't let him leave until it came down.
10-18-2011, 09:58 AM
Good Morning Chicks! I'm plugging along; still trying to get back on program.
Anyone have a great recipe....healthy...for chicken tortilla soup? We had a great one that was a little thick and creamy. Maybe I could use nonfat condensed milk?
Hope you all have a great day. I'm off to errands.
10-18-2011, 10:43 AM
Good Morning Ladies:)
I woke up early to a nice breakfast of PLAIN TEA and than at 11AM 2 tablets of bisacodyl with a full glass of water.UGH I wish this day was over. Oh well!!! I the only good thing I might lose some weight. My nurse called while I was posting and I now can have jell-o & Popsicles all day long until midnight and instead of having 6 glasses of preparation I can double it up to having is 3 x's today.
I went to the doctor yesterday he took my blood pressure 138/78 and my pulse and he use the stethoscope to listen to my heart. Have to go for a stress test at the hospital on Friday at 8 AM. After he reads the results we go from there. My sister told me that there will perform some other tests on me.
RHONDA-Thanks,When I able to talk to him on phone and I need an appointment I have one right away but if I go though the receptionist I have to wait for a while even if its serious she'll tell you to call 911.Now going to the doctors yesterday I see she's gone,I guess some one turned her in.
SANDRA-I'm very lucky to have an understanding caring doctor. My friends want to find a good doctor like him,but they are hard to find. He doesn't take new patients as he's now the labor arbitrator to the hospital.
PAM-My bone density test told me that my hip & back are fine the only thing I have osteoporosis is in my forearm. So I guess the doctor will keep me on the generic of Fosamax [Alendronate ] for a little while longer,he didn't mention that he was taking me off.
VICKIE-Sorry I don;t have a recipe for chicken tortilla soup as I don't like tortillas.
Have to go I getting hungry and have to have my jello.
Have a great day

Chicken Tortilla Soup
1 tsp. olive oil
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 medium green pepper, chopped
1 small can green chilies (not too spicy with this amount but you could go with 1/2 can)
1 cup cooked chicken pieces
1 cup frozen corn
1/4 cup dry white wine or water
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
3 cups chicken broth
1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1/2 cup low fat Tortilla Chips (optional)
1. Sauté the onion, garlic, and green pepper with olive oil in a large heavy-duty pot.
2. Add all the remaining ingredients to the pot and bring to a boil.
3. Reduce heat to a simmer and continue to cook for another 30-40 minutes.
4. Top soup with 1/2 cup crushed tortilla chips, if so desired
*Don’t have any leftover cooked chicken? This recipe can be prepared with uncooked chicken cut into small pieces or a couple of boneless skinless chicken breasts. Add the uncooked chicken in step 2 along with the other ingredients. After about 15-20 minutes or so of cooking remove the chicken breasts when cooked through and shred into small pieces. Then return the chicken to the pot to continue cooking.
Found this at Best Easy Healthy Recipes.
Stopping in real quick to say Good Morning. Off to shower and get my hair trimmed.

Chicken Tortilla Soup is my favorite..
Pioneer Woman has one I haven't tried yet. It looks long but 1/2 of it is preparing the chicken , so if you have leftover or a rotisserie chicken it would be easier. I plan to try it soon. I am not sure how core it is..I don't folllow core very close..
10-18-2011, 12:02 PM
We had cheesy tortilla soup at the Collin Street Bakery Saturday.
I have a fantastic group of seniors right now who are working on computer projects. I've known these kids since they were sophomores. Great group!
My eating's been "off" the last few days. I need to get back on track. The OA meeting was good last night. That's helping.
 at all of you. Have a great day.
10-18-2011, 10:30 PM
quiet day here today.
I had a tap performance, and it went rather well. The big test is Thursday.
I also had a nap and dinner out, paying NO attention to calories, just enjoying every morsel. Except the pie. It wasn't that good, and we told the owner and manager. My niece was with us, and she teaches food science, and I KNOW pie. They were very interested in what we had to say. I don't think they will be using that pie supplier anymore.
10-19-2011, 04:08 AM
Thank you for your messages everyone. They mean a lot. Mum, who will be 92 in January, has been moved to another hospital. There is a slight improvement in her general health, but not in the brain. She thinks I am either her sister or her mother and my husband is a policeman. She speaks in half Welsh and half English. I've warned then that she also speaks French and Latin. She rambles on about people she knew in her past and told me yesterday that the Queen had been to visit her. They got her out of bed yesterday but she couldn't stand. The physios are working on her. It looks like she will survive this setback, but won't be able to go back to the home because her needs are so much greater. She has gone from being a resident to being a patient. She is examined and reviewed every day and they estimate it will take at least 2 weeks to see where we go from here. The hospital is beautiful, very modern and 14 miles from where we live, and the emotional support I have had is really wonderful.
10-19-2011, 11:32 AM
JoJo, I'm glad your mom is getting help and am also glad you're getting support.
Rhonda, we've found that some places' pies have almost no taste. I'm glad you and your niece talked to them.
10-19-2011, 11:51 AM
JoJo...thanks for letting us know about your mom..
I am helping my cousin with my Aunt that has advanced dementia..she fell a few weeks ago and broke some facial bones. She is in a nursing home now and my cousin and I are scouting out care home options. The doctors think she should not go home alone which is what she wants to do. Here for Medicaid to pay her home will have to be sold or have a lien against it. At least that is what
we are being told. My cousin has cared for her quite a bit and feels guilty that her care seems too much for her now. My Aunt has spells of extreme screaming agitation and other calm times. She rambles with nonsense most of the time but remembered a few names from generations ago for my cousin & I when we asked...Maybe it helps her to remember some of the long term memory things that she can even though totally confused with today stuff.
10-19-2011, 12:02 PM
Isn't the brain fascinating. It's all difficult, but really intriguing. My former MIL thinks her husband is at times her sister. How on earth does the brain hold on to these old memories? Scarey!! Thanks for letting us know about your mother, Jojo. And, good luck about your aunt, Nancy.
Sandra, this pie had taste all right....after taste! It was supposed to be coconut cream. The meringue was great but the filling had almond extract in it, and it felt oily, not creamy. This new restaurant is on the square, replacing a popular cafe that had been there for decades. We all want it to succeed. It will. I took them a buttermilk pie, with the recipe, encouraging them to put that on their menu. I think the owner has a bias toward meringues!
10-19-2011, 10:37 PM
Rhonda, I hope the new restaurants makes it.
I am dusting off and am ready to get back on program. Why am I such a yo-yo'er?
10-20-2011, 12:04 AM
Sandra, having my own issues with this at the moment. I was doing very well on lower carbs, but now not so well. Back to it...
10-20-2011, 01:54 AM
Queen of procrastination here.
10-20-2011, 09:01 AM
good morning chicks. Don't know why, but I've been getting up early lately. Most mornings it's still dark. When is the time change? It's starting to get cold here, and I hope we get to Florida soon.
My diet is not too good lately either. I need to wake up, be back later.
10-20-2011, 11:25 AM
I'm still procrastinating, too. Can we blame this on the weather? (I doubt it.) Times like this I think of what my doctor said about some folks meant to be larger.
10-20-2011, 12:12 PM
Well we all sure stick together...I slipped up last night with tortilla chips. I got a bag to use with my chicken tortilla soup i am going to make and over did the chips. I wish you could buy tiny amounts of things.
Mt eating had been really good and my joints & knee were feeling good, now I am limping along again & stiff..Could I be allergic to the corn ?? Shrimp Fried Rice the other night seemed to bother me too. Now that I have been eating more pure I can really tell which foods are doing this. It could be another ingredient but the Shrimp Rice only had rice, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, egg, pork, shrimp and a small amount of bacon.
Working on tile selection for bathroom.
10-20-2011, 12:35 PM
My feet are bothering me, too, Nancy. I've been having way too many carbs. I wonder if that could cause it, or maybe it's just the changing weather. It's fairly cool here now.
10-20-2011, 12:42 PM
Nancy, yes, we all stick together, to become frumpy, lumpy, bumpy and we get grumpy.
My daughters BIL developed an allergy to corn and you would not believe all the foods with corn in them. He cut those foods and lost a lot of weight, but eventually put it back on. I think he lost around 100 lbs. But I've only known him to be on the heavy side and he's really short, so he slowly put it all back on. My son in law (his brother) is the complete opposite. He is super tall and thin and my twin grandsons take after him.
10-20-2011, 12:57 PM
Pam..what symptoms did your daughters BIL have. I am curious if its always
hives ect or if it can be joint & inflammation.
Allergies may not be the cause , maybe it is just foods that cause more inflammation and make things worse for me ..I guess that would be called sensitivities
10-20-2011, 01:13 PM
Good Morning Ladies:)
I'm feeling fine but a little wobbly as they gave me a Valium type drug other than the anesthesia. Not going out today, not even to my choir practice, as they told me not to drive for at least 24 hours. My procedure was done at 1 PM. Didn't lose the weight like I thought I would, with all that fasting, but than again I read on some of the labels of the meds they gave me to drink there was lost of sodium in them so maybe I bloated and will lose the rest in another day.
SANDRA-Glad that OA is helping you get back on track.
RHONDA-Once in a while you have to celebrate with a fine restaurant dinner. You don't go over board all the time so I don't believe that you did damage with all the exercising your doing.
JOJO-Your mom is 92???? God bless her, sorry that she not responding to you. Sending prayers got you and your mom.
PAM-WoW being allergic can really up your weight. I didn't know that. I have never been to allergist ,so I don't know what I'm allergic to, in the food category to cause my very slow weight loss as I'm eating small portion sides.
Have a great day as I getting tired and will rest on the sofa for a while. Still feel wobbly from the Valium in yesterday colonoscopy procedure .
10-20-2011, 07:06 PM
Our tap performances went very well at the state fair today. What a relief.
I had a foot long corn dog (a Fair fave) and fried cheesecake! Can't get much worse than that
Tomorrow, back on the low carb, I promise!
10-21-2011, 11:02 AM
Good Morning Chicks! Sounds like we are all busy and hanging on for dear life. I was good yesterday in between running around but I got NO water in. NOT good!
Today more errands with no hope of rest until Sunday.
Hugs, light and love to you all!
10-21-2011, 11:32 AM
Rhonda, did they still have the infamous fried frito pie?
Vickie, I need to chug the water, too. And I need to get back op.
Can we blame our eating on the weather?
10-21-2011, 01:10 PM
Sandra, yes, they have the Frito pie this year too. I passed, allowing myself only 2 of the junk food offerings. My goodness but things were expensive! Turkey legs were $10!
OK, so far so good today on the lower carb, and I'm almost 1/2 way through the day.
10-21-2011, 01:49 PM
I had my stress test at 8AM and was only on the treadmill for 5 mins when I started to huff and puff. My breathing was so bad they had to stop the test. The doctor that did the test told me it not my heart but my breathing .He's calling my doctor of some more test the first to be a ECHO. Now I worried that its my lungs.
Bought a new garage can for my recycling so I have to put the recycling sticker on it and than reinforce it it packing tape so it does get loose and blow a way. Can't carry those blue plastic bins anymore so I got a garage bin with wheels.
Have a great day
10-21-2011, 02:54 PM
Maryann..Did they say when the ECHO will be ?? I know you are worried.
Try to take it easy til they figure this thing out. good idea about the rolling garbage bin for recycle. I may copy your idea. Much better than the bins.
I woke with a cold & sore throat.. I always try to think back to were I picked it up at since I am not around that many kids. Oldest son is home just briefly but is off today doing a school tour of our state prison. I have his dog ,Riley, today and we are sitting together out on the deck & it makes me want a dog.. I found this dog as a puppy for him 3 years ago (some of you may remember) and my son & Riley are inseparable.
Handyman canceled Wed & Thur again this week. But next week is the promised week he gave me to finish the bathroom. We shall see. I found tile I really like in stock so thats good.
10-22-2011, 09:56 AM
Nancy, dogs are such good companions aren't they. I think though that we won't get another one after this one goes to the big dog park in the sky. Of course, that is exactly what I said after my last two died.
I'm doing OK with the food part of life, but have a challenge this afternoon at a birthday party for DH's 98 year old uncle. I have to simply remember I've had my junk food for the year!
I hope you all have a good day. Take care, Maryann.
10-22-2011, 12:47 PM
Had a bad night as I could breath again and woke up in a panic. I was things of calling an ambulance but after walking to the living room I decided to take some Zicam Congestion Relief nasal spray and in a while my breathing came back to normal.I slept until 9AM,but this is nothing to what Karen is going though. The one thing that cam out good from my colonoscopy I lost .5 and I'm now this morning 160.5 only 10 more pound to my goal.
NANCY-No he didn't say I guess its my doctor that has to schedule it. Its hard not to worry as I'm alone up here, and I don't dare call friends in the middle of the night. Going to put tape over the recycling sign so it doesn't pull off my new garage can.
Have a great day going out with my friend Mary for a late brunch.
10-22-2011, 03:03 PM
Good Morning Chicks! I promise to be around more soon. I'm worried about Mary Ann, Pam, and JoJo. You are all in my thoughts.
10-22-2011, 03:45 PM
Enjoyed my son being home , took him & a friend of his to breakfast & then went to watch Grandson play soccer. I am going to take some cold medicine & rest til I have to take my car in at 5:30 for an oil change & tire rotation. Its always been hard for me to keep the tire schedule straight but I found out our tire place does both oil change & tire rotations so I can do both every 3K miles.
Or some people say every 5K is enough (I need to check on that)
Tomorrow my daughter in law and I are taking a ladies beginner shooting clinic.
We don't do a lot together so this will be good for us.
Maryann..does your dr know you had the middle of the night problem. I wonder if an inhaler would help you in that situation. Prayers & Hugs !!
10-23-2011, 12:44 AM
Good luck Maryann; I know that must be scarey.
Today as we were driving to the birthday party, the car died....on a major interstate. That Premium AAA is worth every single penny. We are OK, the car is in the shop, but it took hours of course. The party started at 5; we got there at 7. Believe me, I had TWO margaritas!!! After that we got a rental car, and DH drove us home. We arrived at 10PM. So, 6 hours for what should have been a few hours out. Whew.
10-23-2011, 12:07 PM
Hello chickies. Letting you all know we are finally in Florida. Arrived late last night. We will be here until April.
Maryann, I hope everything is okay for you. I love Florida, but if my husband were to die first, and my sis was gone, I would have to move back to KY permanently. I would not want to be here alone, if something were to happen to me.
Vickie, why are you worried about me? I started taking my meds again, and the angina has stopped. All is good.
Rhonda, are you due a new car? You deserved the margaritas after all that stress.
jojo, you are in my thoughts. Hope mum is doing better.
Nancy, the new cars need an oil change every 7500 miles. My car lets me know when it's due.
10-23-2011, 04:27 PM
Maryann, when is your echo? I am worried about you.
JoJo, just a note to let you know I'm thinking of you.
Pam, seems like just the other day you left Florida. Curtis and I used to winter in Texas when we lived in Montana. Curtis moved me to Texas so I would be close to family and friends.
Vickie, I'm getting back op Monday morning. I'm still of the mind set that I can't start on a weekend. (another old habit)
Rhonda, we have AAA, too. It's a lifesaver for sure.
We heard and voted our new minister today. Now things should be getting back to normal at church. He begins Nov. 1.
10-23-2011, 05:47 PM
Sandra, the only family I have in Florida is my sis. She is one mile away. Love it.
Monday sounds like a good day to start. I'll join you.
10-23-2011, 06:36 PM
Had a good night sleep and than went to church and Sunday brunch. In the afternoon I watch to Halloween type of movies.
Tomorrow I will call my doctor and Hope he has an appointment set up for my ECHO and than I want a carotid artery checked also. Than he should set up a appointment with either a pulmonary or ear nose throat doctor, to check my lungs or sinuses for my breathing problems.
NANCY-Don't know that why I going to call my reg doctor and find out when he set it up. A woman in my choir told me I should have one of those emergency call buttons that go around the neck, but I have my land and cell phone by my bed at night,so I all set for a EM. Got the black garage bin and I put a recycle sticker on it,so I all set for next week recycling pick up. No he doesn't know about my breathing problems going to tell him tomorrow morning.
VICKIE-Thanks,but be worried about me,I find the answers some time this week
RHONDA-Thanks, I wouldn't know what to do if my car broke down,so TG I have my AAA card and membership it is worth the cost.
PAM-I made the decision to stay up here no matter what. As long as I have my phones by my bedside I can always call. Just have to be able to reach the front door or better still tell them that I will unlock the sliding door[side of house] closer to the bed room. If I went back to NY I would be still to far away from my DD or DS to take care of me.
SANDRA-Thanks,I don't know I will find out from my reg doctor. I more worried about my not breathing as the cardo doctor told me my heart was OK it was the breathing he was worried about, and he will call my reg doctor to set up a ECHO appointment.
Going to have my supper, haven't had anything to eat since 10 AM this morning. Its now 5:30PM.
Have a great evening
10-23-2011, 07:09 PM
I told the tow truck driver that I wanted a AAA membership that included a massage and a trip to the spa! He laughed and said he did too.
No, Pam, we won't get a new car...DH has a 1990 Cadillac. We'll likely get a new engine, if needed.
10-23-2011, 10:35 PM
Had a fun day with daughter attending a ladies shooting clinic. We got to shoot shotguns, semiautomatic pistols, & high powered rifles.
This eveing i have just rested trying to get past this head cold.
Usually I make a list on Sunday night of things to get done for the week but I think that will wait tl morning.
I have this MediWeightloss coupon and I am considering starting it in January instead of now. I have so much food on hand and with the holidays coming up , I may eat comfort foods this holiday.
