Mini-Goals - It's so embarrassing

View Full Version : It's so embarrassing

I hit the Big 50 last week I'm so excited but it's kind of embarrassing to say I've lost 50 pounds and need to lose another 50...? then people look at you and say... HOW MUCH DID YOU WEIGH? all astonished... But I thought it would be safe to share here.;)

That's awesome!!! Very excited for you! I totally get your excitement!

Congrats! That is a good problem to have, right? ;) I don't tell people numbers for that reason....unless I feel comfortable with it. If someone asks you how many lbs., just tell them that you're just going based on how you feel or that you lost a good amount. Usually they'll stop asking at that point. If they're so bold as to insist that you tell them, then you can always insist that you don't. ;)

hahah First of all congrats on the weightloss!! 50 is awesome!!! But I have to agree with you...when i tell people I have lost 40 but have lots more to go, I can just see the wheels burning in their head trying to figure out how much I must so now i just say lots gone and more to go! :) But hey, we should be proud of thatweightloss number!!

Congrats again!

Yep yep! I've had the same experience... Being tall, people often have NO idea how many pounds we're carrying! In the end I just decided to own it! I've been fairly open with most people about losing 78pounds and currently weighing 210 and letting them do the math! ;) Though in certain situations, I do just say I've lost "a lot" and only admit to my current weight.

Congrats! I don't tell people how much I weigh anymore, I can't stand the shocked look on their face. Even the nurse in my clinic (before I gave birth to my 4th) asked me "Where do you put it?" :)
So now, I just smile and say "lost some, need to loose some more"
Good luck on your journey!

Congratulations on 50 lbs. gone!! That is a great achievement. I was interested to read your question and the responses, as it is something I have wondered about myself..... I have lost 30 and, so far, nobody has commented except for a couple of close friends who know I am working on it.... I am still waiting for someone who doesn't already know I am losing weight to notice or comment! I am hesitant to go into the numbers even with friends, however. I think I will follow the advise of the others who responded here and just say lots gone, more to go :)

I feel exactly the same! You know what? We should be so proud but I hate it to tell people the digits.

I agree with RRB2 "lost some, need to loose some more". I'm stealing that line from now on ;)

I hear ya, sister! I am extremely proud of my 50 pounds gone, but only a few people know how many more pounds I want to lose. I tell most people only that I want to lose a lot more, or that my goal is a normal healthy weight. I haven't had anyone push me for details yet.

Congratulations to all of us on our hard work!

Good job! I can relate, though. It's hard knowing that there's still a long way to go BUT the best part is that you've already lost 50lbs so you know you can do it again! :carrot:

I've thought about this too - I do tell people I've lost over 40 lbs, but I don't say how much more I want to lose. that's partly because I am not sure myself!! I think it could realistically end up being anything between 40 and 85 more lbs! (not that I think I will try to get as low as the 130s but it would still be a healthy weight, not underweight if I did)

But I am thinking that I may not care once I get to goal and that I may be so proud to have lost ~100 lbs that I won't care about people doing the math to figure out how much I used to weigh.

Yes to this. I'm pretty vague right now when it comes to how much I want to lose. I do know I want to get to a healthy BMI so I will say something like "I want to lose at least another 25lbs or so" but nothing beyond that. However, if I do get to 140lbs I'll probably be shouting it from the roofs. At that point I doubt I'll care if someone knows what I used to be.

Congrats on hitting 50 pounds gone! That is awesome.

The only people who know how much I've lost are my hubby and my trainer. I dont like giving a specific number either.

Great job on losing 50 pounds! That's half the weight you want to lose. I would never have told anyone what I weighed prior to the day I decided to lose weight. On that day, I joined a gym and the owner asked, "What brings you here today?" I replied, without giving it too much thought, "Look at me - I need to lose 100 pounds." We laughed and then I realized I had said it out loud. Everyone at the gym knows my goal and I don't care anymore who knows what I used to weigh or what I weigh now. I realized when I saw a male acquaintance a couple weeks ago (hadn't seen him in a year) that most people have no clue what you weigh. We talked a bit about losing weight and I said I wanted to lose about 18 more pounds. He questioned whether going below 110 was a good weight for me. He was absolutely stunned when I told him I weighed 170. He thought I was 125. (Men!) Bottom line is this - own the whole experience. The more you admit to it, the more real it becomes. The more real it is, the more likely you are to react to it and do something positive. Just my opinion.

Great job!!! You're doing a wonderful job!!! I just lost my first fifty too, and I have had people ask me that too-I always just answer, "I weighed fifty pounds more than I do now." ;) way to go!
