there were enough of us from the Sept challenge who wanted to continue so I figured I'd kick things off.

Everyone is welcome to join and it's fine if your personal goal is not 10 lbs, it's just a nice round number to try for!

Count me in! I've been at a stand stil at 224-225 for about 2-3 weeks. Very frustrating. Trying to change that. I would love to be 215 by october 1st but I will be happy at 219 for the month; just want to be out of the 220s. I have a tentative mini goal of 199 by New Years but idk. I can do this. Ok. So I am realizing my weight loss stand still may qualify as a plateau. So if I am going to lose at least 6lb in one month, I need some advice. anyone have any ideas/tips?

My current diet/routine:
1400-1500 caps
Gym or swim 1 hour 5 days a week
plus 30-60 min bike ride 5 days a week
plus strength training 3-4 days a week

I know with plateaus I have to change it up. But how?

Official official weight will be posted when I wake up. Will still technically be on sept 2nd but even though its 1 am here, it is the end of the day for me.

I will be getting a puppy this coming weekend, so it is cutting down my workout time a little at first (so realistically I know I might not make my goal), but then I am switching from a yoga only gym to a regular gym with more class options... hopefully spinning is as awesome as everyones been saying! :D

I think that a lot of people didn't make 10, me included, but I definitely pushed myself a little harder than I would have otherwise and I made 9. So I'm going to keep pushing and see what happens this month!

I should add that I was THRILLED to have a 9 lb loss for the month!

The one thing that I will say about this challenge or any challenge where you try to lose a certain amount of weight by a specific date is that it's important to remember that progress is what matters, no perfection.

So, people that have done this challenge before: how do you do it? Any tips? 10lb in one month is a lot. Or it seems like it.

I set my goal last month for only 7 lb. I didn't want to set it so high and not be able to reach it. Ten lb is a lot to lose in a month. That would mean that one would have to lose a little more than 2 lb/week. It's do-able for most bUt not for me.

I'd like to try to go with a 10 lbs for September. Since August I somehow lost 9, I'm thinking 10 is a bit ambitious, but why try for less?

SW: 166
GW: 156

The bad new is, I started the month at 166, and this morning it is 167. I know I was 'bad'.... I baked brownies for the family, and I licked the darn bowl........ than my son brought me some Chinese from the Mall... and I LOVE Chinese food! I ate some :( I confess. But I only ate some of the chicken with mushroom, and didn't touch the rice. But all that is enough to show a gain.

Now, the good news? My wonderful 'conscious' made me go Zumba this morning. So, I feel that I'm good for a fresh start! Yes. I'm sticking for my wish list of 10 lbs for the month of September!!

I'm totally in! I am back to this board after a long, unhealthy hiatus and all day I've been thinking I WANT TO LOSE 10 LBS BY OCTOBER!!

What do you all do to reach this goal other than really watch what you eat and work out?? I suppose thats it! Just be accountable and come here for support! This is the first time I've been in one of these challenges so I'm just not sure.

Goal: go to gym AT LEAST 3 times a week (which may not be enough, but is the minimum I must do).
9/3/11 - current weight 180 lbs.
10/1/11 - goal weight 170 lbs.

I really hope by coming here and with lots of discipline I can do this!!!

that's pretty much it! I like doing challenges because they help me keep accountable to myself - I know that other people see what my weight is doing and it makes me want to keep the commitment I made to myself. I can't guarantee to myself that I can lose 10 lbs in a month, but I can guarantee that I am going to stick with my program and stay on plan with my food and activity. And having other people trying to do the same thing can be a great form of support.

Okay, I admit - I have adjusted my ticker and original post in this thread to reflect what is now the truth, having gained 3lbs since Thursday by eating as if the world is running out of food. (No, really, I EASILY ate more than 11000 calories over... sadly. :nono:)

Here we go! ;)

Edited to add: Okay, not 'easily' - Let's be honest, I worked hard to eat so much I felt sick. Ugh.

It's Okay Heather Angel! The month is young!!! Just really crack down on your calories and work out extra hard at gym or take an extra long power walk with a good friend! Just envision your ticker on October 1st and imagine yourself changing the number to 218 and getting to say bye bye to the 220s! I see from your signature you have made some incredible progress, this month will be another milestone for you and the rest of us taking this challenge!!

Welcome fightingsiouxforever! I've got the same goal! That scale better read 170 by October 1st and I just joined in yesterday!!

What are your plans to reach your goal? I plan to go to the gym EVERY possible day that I can (which is hard after work when I'm tired but I have a challenge to meet!!) or do a really good power walk if the gym is just not in the cards.

I also plan to count my WW points religiously and write everything down, that way there is NO over eating and NO going over points!

I hope we can both say bye bye to the 180s coming October 1st!!

Hi HeatherAngel. Sorry you had a rough time. Have you been able to get back on track? Try not to be too hard on yourself.

As well as following the food plan, I'm working at identifying the difficult times....those times when nothing occurs to me except chocolate. I'm finding that boredom is a common trigger so I'm hoping to plan ahead for those inevitable times.

How often does everyone here weigh in? I cant help but check every morning but I know not to get upset if it doesn't go down since it hasn't been a weeks worth of hardwork or something showing a loss .....

All the same I'm down 2 lbs from yesterday. I don't know if thats because yesterday was one of my first days of really counting my points plus a pretty intense workout??

Does anyone think it's a bad idea to check the scale daily?

I'm toying with the idea of not weighing in until October 1. I'm not sure if that would be hurtful or helpful. I weigh almost daily right now. I also bought the September issue of Prevention. It includes a yoga based workout regimen. I think I might do that this month. It's yoga with and without weights and a walking schedule. It says you can lose "up to" 12 lbs in a month. I've never actually tried one of their workout plans, but I need to learn to destress, so I thought yoga might be a good way to do that.

Opinions?

steinanwine
09-05-2011, 01:52 PM
I say go for it sumnerfan! What have you got to lose (But weight!!) doing that yoga workout! I like yoga, it does help focus and de-stress and stretch the body. If you feel motivated you should definitely try it!

I personally wouldn't wait until Oct 1st to weight in, I don't know why, sounds scary to me! As I said in the post above yours I weigh in almost every day, so I would be okay with changing to once a week, but not waiting at all until October? I couldn't do that! By weighing in you might see you aren't quite at your goal and it might give you the extra push that you need to lose those last few lbs!?

Consumed 5 WW points so far today ... feeling peckish, might have to have a banana or a granola bar soon but that will only be about 2 to 3 points!

Can't wait to keep that scale moving DOWN!

Way to go everyone on your successes today!! We can do this!!

Today only down 0.2 lbs but I am THRILLED that the scale was DOWN not up, especially since I just started regularly exercising and counting my WW points on Friday!!

I hope its down a little more (OR A LOT MORE!) tomorrow too!
Got in a solid 30 minute elliptical workout today plus cooldown. I know I need to step up my workout to longer than 30 minutes but I'm really just trying to do what I can do since I'm such a newbie to exercising daily. I'm just glad I'm actually doing it!!

But as it turns out I was the biggest loser and my mom came in second place with 3 lbs lost!! Now I've got to keep this momentum rolling and hopefully lose another 4-5 lbs this next week as well!! And Congrats to everyone else thats lost weight. And If you didn't lose any keep on fighting and don't give up...it'll pay off in the end!

Fightingsiouxforever - I did calorie counting for a while but it really made me prone to really under eating, like way too few calories like in your case today. I would get so emotional and cranky, I started driving like a crazy person (almost hit like 3 pedestrians 1 night!) and just had no energy so be careful!!! I understand not wanting to eat anymore tonight and if you have energy for your shed workout - go for it! Just be careful! It wasn't a lasting plan for me, WW works better for me, I still eat a lot less and I don't feel like a totally crazed zombie at the end of the day!

(Not trying to be preachy and telling you should do WW instead by the way, I just remember those days when I only ate like 800 calories and I just felt SO horrible!)

Got in a killer elliptical workout at the gym tonight - I was DRENCHED - I was really able to push it for whatever reason. Ive been doing my points all week religiously and going to the gym every night after work. Im really proud that I seem to have gotten over some mental hurtle where I dreaded going to the gym, Now I'm totally loving it and my points are keeping me satisfied.

What is the best way to fix this?

We all make mistakes along the way, but dwelling on a binge, even a major one, isn't going to get you anywhere. Prepare to add a little extra movement into your routine tomorrow--a couple hundred more steps, a few more minutes on your usual workout, a little higher intensity in the activities where you can manage it--and don't let a mistake turn into a snowball of many binges.

You've got this and we're here for you.

Well, I am really not loosing weight. And I know it's because I need to kick it up somewhat. Spent some extra energy on it. But it's been so busy. However - it's gonna stay busy for ages, and I wanna loose some more weight. So - today I am going on a 6 day-perfection-stretch and see what happens. 6 days isn't too long. And I don't eat my weight back after loosing it, I am already good at maintaning. So it's really just about moving the scale some more.

DO NOT GIVE UP! Today is a new day! Like Kahokuri said, add some extra steps to your day, push a little harder - this does not mean another binge is in your future, it means hard work and more hard work is in your future and in a few days time you'll be back down and that little bump in the road will be a minor obstacle you have overcome!! Definitely do not give up today! I hope its a beautiful day by you, go out side and walk around, enjoy the fresh air, fall is coming, just move and be happy!

Checking in .... I really thought the scale might not go down for me today for a few reasons but I'm down another 1lbs from 177 to 176! I hit the gym every day this week and counted my points like crazy, I guess it really really pays off!

I do have to say my TOM started WAY too early .... not sure it's the real deal but ... I should have 2 weeks until it starts so I was worried yesterday that that would cause me to go up on the scale. I don't know why it started early, that usually doesnt happen to me, but I did forget to take my BC for the last 3 days (which Ive done before, bad habit) but it usually doesnt trigger an early TOM. I was hoping it would go away by this morning but its still here ... we'll see what happens, just hope it doesnt make the scale go up. I haven't done successful weight lose during my period so I don't know when I gain and I just DONT want to see that .....

Also last night we went out for dinner so I was worried that would add to my weight but I really did good not eating like crap. We had Thai so I had a cabbage salad with chicken instead of some greasy curry with noodles. The cabbage salad was delicious, all veggies, light dressing (probably fish oil, chili, maybe vinegar and a little sugar? Not sure what else) and I added chicken to fill me up. I was very proud of myself for making a consciously healthy choice and not just saying SCREW IT it's Friday night. I drank water all evening. I did have a sort of unhealthy appetizer that I split with my boyfriend. It was a chive dumpling - so the filling wasn't unhealthy, just chives, but it was a pan fried sort of thick dumpling - who knows what was in that dough, but I only had 1 and apparently it didn't ruin my weigh in!

So happy with my results so far! I hope they keep up and this early TOM doesn't ruin everything. Hope everyone else is doing awesome - have an amazing weekend and keep kicking butt!!!!

My whoosh is over and I'm still at 155. probably won't see 154 for a week or so :) It seems my body likes losing five pounds SUPER FAST and then taking a break for a while, haha.

Oh well, still three pounds down so far this month!

I wanna play. Joining kinda late. But I've got a pretty good start on this. I've lost seven pounds this month. Just three more to go. That would put me at 187. Pretty sure I can do this and hopefully more.

Welcome Napia! 7 lbs already! Thats great! What are you doing exercise & eating-wise to lose weight?

Hi and thanks!

I just posted this in another thread, but it answers your question so I'll post it here too. I'll just add that I exercise fairly consistently either at the gym or right not just walking through the neighborhood. Today I did a 5.5 mile walk. I'll do the same walk tomorrow.

As far as food goes, here are the changes I made to get off my 9 month plateau and jump start my weight loss again. It took a lot of trial and error and the help of a nutritionist but for the moment it's working and I'm simply ecstatic.

Being diabetic means I'm constantly at odds with carbs. This summer I've concentrated on eating constant smaller meals with more veggies and fruits as my staples. More raw food too. Baby carrots, celery, tomatoes, radishes, okra. Dip any of these in ranch dressing and it's all so yummy I never feel deprived.

Since I really dont' like to cook, I stick with stuff I can make quickly and without a lot of effort. Prepackaged, prewashed veggies like carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. I can eat that raw with some dip or steam them.

For fruit, I eat apples, all kinds of melons, nectarines, cherries, peaches. Still working on the fruit thing, I actually find most fruit to be too sweet.

For protein, I eat eggs (usually hard boiled, baked chicken, various kinds of fish (e.g., talapia, salmon, catfish, tuna salad, sardines). Nuts of all kinds. They're very high in calories though so if you have no portion control when it comes to stuff like this, purchase single serving size packages. Or only eat a handful or two at a time just as a snack.

Love me some seafood. Red Lobster is an occasional treat. Shrimp is my favorite.

I eat CONSTANTLY, but I do lose weight. It's not how often you eat, it's what you eat and your portion sizes. Oh and don't forget to exercise.

Get a handle on this, and you'll eventually start losing weight.

Good luck!

I am doing well so far!!! Its been 4 weeks since I started my journey... I am really starting to notice that I have very little food cravings for bad stuff, I hardly ever think about pop now (I was addicted) and I get full on way less food (waiting 20 minutes is the key for me). I have learned a lot of am excited to see what the next 4 weeks will brings

I am such a screw up. I feel so guilty.

What is the best way to fix this?

dont feel horrible, you just have to get back on that horse and keep riding!! dont be hard on yourself, but try get back on track asap. the longer you hold it off the harder it becomes to find the track again. ive found i usually like to binge eat when im by myself at home, and yesterday came very close to gettign in my car and going to buy the first block of chcolate i could find, but i put my runners on and went for a walk instead, played my music and cleared my head. :carrot: so dont worry :D and look at what you have already accomplished, youve done so well!!

Don't feel too badly. Shoot earlier this summer I binged on ice cream for about a month. I simply could not get enough. Fortunately I did not gain much weight cause I was exercising regularly. My mom even wondered how I could eat like that and not gain. Had to be the work outs. I finally stopped that madness, got scheduled with a nutritionist and got back on track.

That's all ya gotta do is get back on track. What's done is done.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me through this weekend you all are the only support I have, and fantastic ones at that.

I worked very very hard yesterday...
and...
I really really need to get to they gym this morning. I weighed myself on my scale just now and I was 220.6! I did it 5 more times, standing in different positions on the scale and it said the same! I don't understand. Maybe my body just let go of a bunch of water or something? I am not complaining by any means and even if it isn't "real," it still gives me a lot of motivation. That would mean I am 4lb down since September 1st, (actually, because of my plateau, since August 15th) but I am almost in the 2teens! It has been years since I've been that weight. :-) so yeah, even if this isn't real, it still makes me want to push even harder. Funny how that works: even with doubt and skepticism, a silly number can improve a person's outlook and mood.

Well since i started weighing last Sunday I am up for the FIRST time. A little dissapointed but I know its not the end of the world. 176 yesterday ... 176.4 today.

I have 2 possible reasons why
1. My TOM started 2 weeks early - no idea why, pretty pissed about it. Since Ive never seriously exercised and dieted during my TOM I dont know know when I bloat or whatever - so possibly this is the cause?
2. While I did work out yesterday I didn't go to the gym - I did a 2.8 mile walk outside - it was no where near as strenuous as my workouts at the gym, so I dont know if that contributed too.

But I have NOT gone off my points. I guess all I can do is hit the gym today and hope it goes back down tomorrow?

Yesterday and last night was rough for me! It was my cousins wedding and Well lets just say that had a lot of enticing foods! However I did settle for a small salad, steamed asparagus, 1/4 of a Yukon gold potato, and a small piece of chicken that I took the skin off of. I also had a 8 oz cup of light beer and 1 Morgan/diet coke. I stepped on the scale this morning and im up .6 to 175 not surprising lol my official WI is on Tuesday night so im fairly confident I can get that down again. I just need to work my butt off..literally! :)

Well today started out AWFUL! After seeing my first increase on the scale + an early TOM causing INSANE emotions I cried for most of the morning and then took an "im-feeling-sorry-for-myself-nap" ..... but after I got up I felt a lot better.

I didn't initially plan on going to the gym today but I DID! And I'm so happy for it. I have to keep reminding myself that on the days I feel the worst it's more important than EVER to keep going and get my butt in the gym.

I did treadmill for the first time in a long time, hoping that in time I can build up some endurance for running for longer than a few minutes. I did 35 minutes in total, most of it was an intense power walk but I did manage to get in 9 minutes of running in that 35 minutes. I'll push for more next time. I dont want to hide behind the comfort of the elliptical for ever!

Then I did some weight training which I'm usually really self concious about but I did it anyway! 2 sets of bicep curls, 2 sets of incline chest press, 3 sets of lateral pulldowns. Working on my arms. I'll introduce some leg work outs too, just after killing my legs on the treadmill or ellip it seems impossible to do weights on my weak legs!

I'm just glad today didn't end up being a waste & I did many things at the gym I'm normally not comfortable doing! Dinner is going to be super healthy, cauliflower mash, broccoli and a small piece of white fish. Heres to the scale being down tomorrow! (I HOPE!).

Hope everyone elses' Sunday were nice relaxing and healthy successes!

It has to be my TOM. I have not gone off points for a second and have worked out every single day. I know its not a true reflection of my weight but its so disappointing to see since every day last week I just kept going down and down!

Just going to keep doing my points and keep working out and hopefully in a few days time it'll be back where I want it to be ..... Maybe this is reason not to weigh in daily? I don't know if I can wait for once a week.

I mean it has to go down right?? I work out every day and do my points rigorously to the point that I usually am 10 points under the amount I'm allowed to eat! The weight HAS to come off .....

Went into the gym again today, 35 minutes on elliptical and some arm work outs. This will pay off!!

I'm usually the last person to jump on the "eat more to lose more" bandwagon, but with your weight and height, you probably get around 35 points a day? Eating 25 points is not enough.

You may be underfeeding yourself. When I was doing WW in America I had a 32 point allotment each day. If I had gone 10 points under, I would've been depriving myself of a third of my daily intake! Reducing calories and bad fat is obviously a necessary part of the process, but if you take it too far you'll body will think it's starving and will hold onto every calorie you consume.

Best of luck!

Oh honey I am sorry. I have had a couple of experiences like this. A month ago, my friend and I were walking and some guys drove by and screamed something sarcastic about how walking was such great exercise for us fatties
And a couple months ago I was running to class because I was late and some guy yelled run harder fatty!

April Snow & Kahokkuri ... crap! I'm only allowed about 27 points on WW with regular exercise (this is not points plus). I used to only get about 24 so I figured I DID not want to eat more than what I use to get.

I didn't think about starving myself. This sucks. I'm not trying to, I dont feel hungry, I'm getting used to smaller portion sizes. Now I can't eat too much and I can't eat too little??? It shouldn't be this difficult! Ugh, I'm frustrated now. I guess I need to get over this and just try to eat more of my points. Maybe I need to pack larger lunches because right now they are super small. and probably only about 3 or 4 points. I think I've been only eating about 18- 20 points. I guess I'll try for closer to 25.

Today weighed in lower but still more than what I weighed on Saturday.

I'm feeling kind of discouraged about this points thing. I'm not going to stop but now I feel like I have to over think everything so I don't eat too little or too much. Oh well, glad for your advice though because I probably wouldn't have realized I was starving myself. Will definitely try to eat all of my points now and see how that goes.

Thanks guys .... heres to another healthy day!

These comments are very painful but you need to ignore those jerks and concentate on your successes and progress.
we can do this together.

thank you for helping yesterday... its terrible how these idiots think they're funny with their lack of intelligent remarks... have a fabulous day :carrot:

I guess I need to get over this and just try to eat more of my points.

Absolutely do it! My Points allotment changed a few times over the course of the three months that I was able to do WW. The change is based on your weight and progress, so you can trust that when it says you're allowed 27 Points that you can eat all 27 Points worth of healthy foods and still lose weight. Don't get discouraged! It's really difficult to get out of the "fewer calories is better" mindset, but if you can focus on eating your Points in healthful foods, I think you'll find success!

So... this is totally not related. But I needed to rant.
so I was walking home from class today and this cute guy asks me for directions. Well we start walking because I was having trouble explaining it (my brain probably just wanted to flirt lol), and we were talking and having a good time. And he casually asks me my age. And when I told him he laughed, called me old, and walked away.

I am 21 years old!

Thank you!! I am definitely taking your advice to heart. I calculated my points again to make sure it was right and with the exercise I do I am allowed 27 points. So if I am left with points at the end of the day I was thinking I could eat fruit to fill them up, do you think thats a bad idea? Rather than a serving of chips! But I'll aim for bigger lunches too so this isn't as much of an issue! Thanks again!

I'm finally to 176.2 ... STILL .2 lbs heavier than I weighed on Saturday, my lowest so far. I guess it's been a combination of TOM and possibly underfeeding myself thats kept the weight up by a lbs or two. Hoping that tomorrow I will hit or surpass 176 and be back on my way. Sucks feeling like I lost a whole week but still exercising every day so I didn't mess that up!!

NSV - my pants are DEFINITELY lose. Falling down my hips a little. I can always tell because my pants get longer and I start walking on them more since they aren't being held up so high by fat! :D I definitely have to keep hiking up my pants a bit at work, going to need a belt soon! :carrot:

Another NSV - totally avoided bagel and muffin day at work yesterday. Not worth it and it wasn't even hard to ignore! Now I just hope I can make healthy choices at the Pig Roast I've been invited to by a client on Saturday!

Keep going ladies & gents! Half way into September, we are doing great, lets finish this month strong and SLIM! :carrot:

Maybe he was flirting with you, thought you looked younger, and was surprised when you said 21...

I'm 36 and not old...if you're "old" at 21 what does that make me? :dizzy:

Well I went off the deep end and binged for the past 2 days. I didn't really eat a lot but I drank. I didn't drink any beer so I guess helps a little but not really. Now I just feel miserable that I did that and Im disappointed in myself. Im gonna go for a walk maybe that will kick start me again.

I'm feeling your frustration this morning twinieten!!

Yesterday I was at 176.2 and I thought surely I would reach or surpass 176 (my lowest weight yet that I weighed last Saturday). TOM of is over. But this morning .... UP .2 so not its 176.4. I know it's not a huge jump but what the HECK!! I did a killer workout last night!

I NEED that scale to be past 176 by Monday!!

Hope everyone is else is having a better Friday. Never give up, no matter what the scale says!!!
