Default So much to loose! Size 24 but want to be a 12!

I'm about to turn 30 and ready to get real about weight loss! I have been bouncing out of the same two sizes (24/26) for over 8 years and am sick of it! I have over 150 pounds to loose, ( a whole person!), and am so overwhelmed by that number. Anybody out there in the same/ similar boat? My plan of attack for now is eating low carb whole foods off of a salad plate, and walking at least a mile every day! (Baby steps!) Long term I would love to join my brother at the gym (where he is a Cross Fit/extreme fitness trainer! How different can two family members be!), but for now just walking.

Hi there, welcome to 3FC!
I just commented on a similar thread yesterday. Don't think about the whole amount you want to lose. Baby steps is the way to go!
Look at my post here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/4013449-post5.html
Oh and have a peek at the Goal! section of this forum. I find it very inspiring to read post of people who have done it!
Good luck!

Hey, welcome!

I'm in much the same situation as you, though if you look at my stats, you can see I started off worse. My ultimate weight loss will be--assuming everything goes according to plan--over 200 pounds. I totally get the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Walking is a great start; during the first four months of my weight loss, that's absolutely all I did. I was too out of shape for anything else. It'll come with time, and, by gum, it actually gets easier. You're also very fortunate in that you have a brother who seems to be mega into fitness--use him if you can, when you get to that point. It's a great resource to have available, and he'd probably be glad to help you get healthier.

I'm with you in this as well, only a little younger!! Still, trying to lose weight can be done, and I hope we can both achieve.

Welcome to 3FC =)

You aren't alone. Not in the least.

You might actually want to stop by both the 300+ Club and the 100lb Club. There are many lads and ladies in those areas who are looking to lose well over 100 pounds.

How do we do it? One day at a time. One pound at a time. Mini-goals. Goals that have nothing to do with the scale.

We'd love to help encourage you and support you on your journey.

You can do this!

Welcome! You've come to a great place for encouragement, support, and friendship on your weight loss journey (and beyond).

Don't focus on the large number right now; focus on each pound lost, each healthy meal you eat, each time you chose to exercise- and then keep on going. You'll get there!

Good luck, and hope to see you around the board.

Looking at the big picture can be so overwhelming. Baby steps, one day at time like the other ladies have said and you'll get there. Hey we had a journey of putting this weight on right? We trained ourselves to live the lifestyle we did now we are unlearning and relearning a healthy life, it will take time, be good to yourself, your awesome for taking that first step which will lead you on the path to a healthier you! Welcome!

Welcome! Many of the wonderful ladies here have already given you fantastic advice. All I have to add is that as of Feb 2011, I was in a similar situation except 12 years older and the 24/26's were getting too tight With no specific goal in mind other then to stop the perpetual upward trend on the scale and to hopefully improve my quality of life by improving the quality/quantity of the food I was putting in my body, I started to make some changes. Now, 6 mos later, I'm down 47 lbs and feel 10 years younger. There is so much more joy in my life now and an abundance of energy I would have never believed possible.

I spent more then 10 years paralyzed by the number on the scale, overwhelmed by how long it would take, clinging to all my bad habits because they were soooo comforting. These 6 mos have flown by, and while it hasn't been a perfectly smooth road by any means, I have enjoyed every minute and can't wait for what the next 6 mos, 1 year, or 10 years bring. As the Nike says: "Just do it!"

Smile :)

Baby steps and my advise find a walking buddy I started this week and find it so much beter to be on my walks with my housemate than by myself, we chat and encourage each other and by the time we know it we've done more than 5kms. I hv 33 kgs that I'd like to loose and think that's about 72pounds? And having my housemate on my side with daily walks and beter eating has made the first week so much easier than when I've tried on my own in past. Good luck Hun!!
