I often have my meal in the evening and then want something sweet. I generally stay away from sugar so I try and resist the urge by chewing gum or going for a walk. Most of the time I'm able to distract myself and forget about it. I know fruit is sweet but sometimes like today I really don't want fruit. What is your go to sweet, without going over in calories or fat?
I go for ice cream...no sugar added or sugar free are both lower calorie, and so is Dreyer's slow churned. Good stuff. Love me some ice cream...
There are fudgesicle bars that are 50 or so calories each, and Skinny Cow products are in the 150 range for a good-sized ice cream sandwich or cup of good ice cream. Weight Watchers has some good flavors, too. I just had the Dreyer's this past week, and it was 110 calories for 1/2 cup of caramel swirl or something like that. Good stuff.
I go for tiny chocolate bars. My go to is a mini Mo's Bacon Bar (its a chocolate bacon bar about the size of two squares of Hershey's chocolate) from whole foods for 85 calories. I must admit I don't know what the fat is.
I've been eating Jello pudding cups. I like fat free but there's also sugar free. Far free has 100 calories and I think sugar free has 60. Really good when chilled I freeze them in the summer with a popsicle stick through the lid and eat them like an ice cream bar.
I am a chocoholic but I only like dark chocolate. If I couldn't have chocolate I think I would just give up on this now. So my compromise is to buy the very fancy organic 70% cocoa dark chocolate bars (like Lindt) and then only eat two squares. The chocolate is so rich that two squares are usually enough for me. I am on WWPP and depending on the brand of bar 2 squares are only 1 or 2 points.
Dark chocolate- it's not really something you feel like eating a ton of, or eating quickly.
For most of my life I have that craving- sweets after dinner- but I've found that on days when I totally eliminate sugar (except a moderate amount of fruit- but I'm more of a veggie girl), I have no desire for it. Then again, sugar is my crack, so it may just be me.
Count me in on the after dinner "dessert" - I tend to crave sweets in late afternoon and after dinner (mostly due to cutting out caffeine after 3 p.m. and the resulting energy drain) .
I find if I have something with a more natural form of sugar (fruit, a small plain yogurt with a teaspoon of jam or honey mixed in, a bit of cottage cheese with a handful of berries, etc.) I am satisfied. If I eat artificially sweetened things then I usually can't stop eating.
If you go the icecream route, I suggest investing in an icecream maker. I love to just turn my favorite flavored yogurt into frozen yogurt. Oh so good, and it's just yogurt and milk. You can add some protein powder to make it extra healthy for you
I'm more of a carb craver, not sweets. So if you're like me at all, I'm craving a bagel or some wheat thins in the evenings. Lately I've made my own bagels, just a small slab of pb, and a drizzle of honey. Probably more calories than I should have, bagels are pretty big, but oh well, I could snack on a lot more if I ate something else. At least a bagel fills me up
a nice slice of PUMPKIN PIE...kill 2 birds with 1 stone (it's a veggie)! Oh..and only 240 cals 1/8th slice! I make the Libby's Pumpkin Pie Mix (just add 2 eggs and 2/3 cup carnation milk). Enjoy! Nomnomnomnomnom!
I'm also a chocoholic (though I prefer milk chocolate) and I just have some of it Something like 3 squares (120 calories) every evening. Incorporating chocolate into my everyday diet was the only thing that made me stop binging on it.
Anything skinny cow for me. I also like dark chocolate because I can easily do only 2 squares for about 100 cals of the finest dark and be completely satisfied.
Like Sophie, the Mia Farrow lookalike, I've been into freezing sugarfree Jell-O pudding cups and eating one after dinner. The mousse ones in particular have an interesting texture. Also the dulce de leche is much, much better frozen than straight up for some reason. I buy them on sale & put them right in the freezer. (And I'm watching for another sale because I just ran out of them late last week.)
Again a Jello pudding cup fan - I like them with a dollop of cool whip type material (hard to call it food) - either sugar free or fat free just to keep the calories down and on indulgent days a hint of good cocoa powder sprinkled on top. Usually comes in between 100 and 120 cals depending on the final mix. It seems much more satisfying with a cup of hot tea or decaf coffee and eaten as slowly as a speed eater can
