Is peanut butter healthy or does it depend on the brand?

What about Nutella? is nutella alright, or should I just avoid things that I can put on wheat toast all together?

I guess the main point is what are the healthy spreads for bread if any? I'm looking for something to add to my breakfast menu.:carrot::D

I think a little bit of peanutbutter is OK. If you don't put alot on it has alot of protein and fills you up! Nutella I'd stay away from. It tastes amazing but I don't think it has enough nutrients in it to be worth the calories. Maybe it could be a treat once in a while? Oh and i have a suggestion! Put a thin spread of pb on your toast and then add fresh bananas or strawberries on top! Sweet yet good for you! <3

Most commercial peanut butters add sugar. There are natural peanut butters that are better, without sugar. Also, Nutella has a lot of added sugar, no?

A better option might be Jason's Chocolate Hazelnut butter if you want a treat. It still has added sugar but I think it'd be a better choice than Nutella.

If you directly compare Nutella to peanut butter, there is WAY more sugar in Nutella. So if you have to choose between the two, go with peanut butter - natural if you can get it.

I use the Naturally More brand of peanut butter. It took a while for me to get used to, but it doesn't have the processed stuff in it that other brands have. Sugar is the first ingredient listed in Nutella, so I'd probably steer clear of it.

I used to eat Naturally More too. I love the taste! But I wanted something lower calorie. I started buying PB2 only 45 calories vs. like 140-160 for other peanut butters. It is actually a peanut powder that you mix with water. They have a chocolate pb2 as well. I've never tried it, I like peanuts way more than chocolate.

Here are some of the nutritional facts for regular commercial brands for your consideration:

Skippy Peanut Butter (Creamy/Regular)

Serving Size: 2 Tbsp (32g)

Calories: 190
Total Fat: 16
Sat Fat: 3
Total Carbs: 7
Fiber: 2
Sugars: 3
Protein: 7

Nutella

Serving Size: 2 tbsp (37g)

Calories: 200
Total Fat: 11
Sat Fat: 3.5
Total Carbs: 22
Fiber: 1
Sugars: 21
Protein: 3

So. Calorie-wise they are about the same. That being said the Peanut Butter has more protein per serving... and a HECKUVA lot less sugar!

Peanut Butter does have more fat, but it has less saturated fat.

For me, after seeing that, I'd definitely consider Nutella to be a "treat" food, and PB to be a little more manageable for every day. And, that's just comparing a common brand of PB, depending on the Natural PB's the difference could be even greater!

I always laugh when I see the Nutella commercial of the mom serving a healthy breakfast of Nutella on toast to her kids. I wish Nutella was healthy b/c it taste amazing. I can eat it out of the jar. If you toast the bread you'll need less pb b/c it melts on it than if you eat on non toasted bread.

i bought Nutella once in my life and i will NOT buy it again....it's just TOO good! lol...the carbs are sky-high for me and i could simply eat the whole jar in one sitting...it's just not worth it to my tiny pea-sized willpower to have such a thing around here LOL

I've never had Nutella but someone did tell me the Justin's hazelnut chocolate tastes like it. It is very good stuff.

I like both PB2 and Chocolate PB2 and it is great for smoothies, lots of protein for way less calories

pb is excellent for you because of the proteins/types of fat it contains. On a diet, however, you have to limit it a bit because it's about 100cal/tbsp. If you get the ones without all the added sugar, then they're much better for you.

I could never buy a jar of nutella and stay OP, it's toooo good. I think it may have a lot more sugar than pb as well, but don't quote me on that.

When there is nutella in the house for my daughter, I end up having to put it in the freezer so it won't tempt me. Hubby is in charge of doling it out when I am not around. I wish it were healthy!!!

It's so addicting. :mad: because of it, I'll probably only lose like .5 this week. haha. well that and TOM. Stupid nutella and your deliciousness!

I second the comments on Justin's Hazelnut Butter. It is natural and doesn't have all the added crap that Nutella has. It is kind of expensive IMO. As far as PB goes, I use The Bees Knees brand. It is all natural and to me, tastes way better than the loaded up stuff.

Natural Peanut Butter is healthy. Others have more sugar added to them. It should only have peanuts and salt on the label.

Nutella is another name for candy.

I like natural PB and also Sunbutter (made from sunflower seeds instead of peanuts).
I also like low-fat cream cheese on bread, which has less fat and calories than a nut butter.

LMAO, this is me to a T. I am 30 years old, and tried it for the first time a couple months back... Never again. I may as well had a bag of M&Ms on hand. Nutella is dangerous stuff in this house, and I'll never buy it again.

I had Nutella everyday in Europe for 6wks when I went 10 yrs ago. I never bought it once here in the States since then. I was hooked and realized I could never keep a jar around. I don't think it has much nutritional value whatsoever. And if it does, it's probably masked by all the sugar. It's too delicious to be in my house.

I'm the minority here, but I don't like Nutella---and I have a major sweet tooth. A couple of years ago I bought some because I had read so many rave reviews of it. I was really disappointed.

I like natural p.b. I get mind the organic kind from Trader Joe's. It's delicious.

Peanut butter is definitely better nutritionally. One thing to watch out for aside from the added sugar is partially hydrogenated oils that can be found in peanut butter. They are very bad for you. I'd stick with a natural if not organic peanut butter.

I LOVE almond butter, you don't save any thing in calories, but the ingredient list is way more natural than pb: almonds, unrefined cane sugar palm oil and sea salt it's delicious and more heart healthy and you can buy it at WM. I love it in protein shakes
