Hello all!!

I just joined Slimming World this week and was wondering if there was anyone else doing it...I did a search on the forum and found some old threads about SW, but thought I would start a new one...This is my third day, so far so good...It seems really do-able...Anyone else a current member, who would like to chat about it? I have spoken with a few people who have had good results...I am very commited to finally losing weight!!! I had a very rude awakening in an Evans dressing room a few weeks ago...I have lots to lose, but hope I can stick with it...I have been fat my whole life and am realizing that its now or never...I want it now!!!

Anyway, thats what I am doing...Any thoughts? ;)

thanks guys, I am seriously determinded this time...I like the program so far, but a big reason I went with a club is because I am from the states and now living in Kent and thought it would be a good way to meet people...I was pleased to see a UK section in this forum for the same reason...Its so hard to do it, when no one around you understands what its like to be heavy...

Thanks again for your kind words and welcome!!

Hello Melissa :)

You're not alone on this board, I go to Slimming World too.

Before Christmas I'd lost 26lbs with them, but taking a 3 week holiday from the diet has changed that. I'm going to weigh for the first time after christmas on Tuesday after three weeks off the diet (and skipping class) and one week back on.

How's your first week been? I don't find the diet too hard most days when I put my mind to it. And there's always something free I can eat. The real problems start when I run out of mullerlights. :D

Welcome Melissa!

I am doing green days at Slimming World. Not doing too bad although for a while I have been putting on 2lb one week and losing it the next. I get weighed today so I will post my weight loss/gain in the weigh in section tomorrow.

I must say I am enjoying it (YES) as I can eat stuff that actually fills me up. I did go twice to another slimming club but was often headachey and bloody hugry all the time!

I love that I can eat pasta and rice and lots of it. I used to weigh out the pasta before and was shocked how little I was supposed to eat with the other diet.

Do you go to a class each week to be weighed in. If so try to stay afterwards as (well in our class anyway) we discuss what we had been up to, what worked for us (or didn't as the case may be ).
One bit of advice if you like a drink is to save up your "sins" until the weekend so you can have your vodka or glass of wine (or more!) with a clear (well.. hazy) conscience!

Keep posting!

Hi Melissa

I did Slimming World last year & did ok on it, but I personally found it a bit limiting in that I couldn't mix carbs and protein, so now I'm counting cals, although I do miss the free food, it was great to be able to fill up. A friend of mine does SW though and loves it, and is doing very well on it too.

I have also done Atkins in the past but only had limited success with that too, I guess its finding what suits us and, hopefully, I think I have.

All the best anyway, I'm fairly new to this board too, and everyone is so nice and helpful - its a great place for support and advice.:)

My first week has been going really well!!! I have been doing mostly green days...I am not a huge meat eater so its easier for me on the green days with all the pasta and rice...I stocked up on the Mueller Lights, they were on sale luckily...LOL
I have only been to one class so far (just joined) everyone was really nice and very supportive...I plan to stay for the meetings because one of the things I really need is that support from others with my same weight issues...

I actually weighed myself this morning and have had a five pound loss...probably alot of water, but exiting anyway!!! I had done a boots detox before joining just to get a head start which was about three weeks ago, in those three weeks I lost 7 pounds in addition to the 5 this week...Nearly a stone!!! SO, I am feeling really good about the diet, so far I have not felt deprived...The free foods are great.

Thanks everyone!!

Well done Melissa, that's a great first week loss! :)

I didn't think to say but I'm vegetarian so I do all green days. I suppose if you enjoy eating meat with things like pasta and potatoes then slimming world might seem a bit restrictive, but since most of my sources of protein are free on green days too (tofu, eggs, beans, brown rice plus brown bread and milk/cheese healthy extras) I never feel like I'm missing out. And I really feel like I'm eating better on this diet, rather than just filling up on (white) bread like I used to.

Don't forget to join us in posting your losses (and gains) on our weigh in thread after each class, it's nice seeing the group's losses all add up there.

Hi Melissa!

Good to hear you are a "greenie" too. I cannot believe my luck that I eat as much pasta and rice as I can. With me I have to feel full.

Do stay after the weigh in. It helps a lot. At first there were few that stayed at my class but now it is great! There is no shame in gaining one week say, as everyone does! The lady that lost 6 1/2lbs over Christmas is now putting a few pounds back on but she has already had a great loss. Don't worry if it is very slow and steady, it is better than losing a huge amount quickly that you will just put back on and tell yourself that if you "sin" one week you know how easy it is to rectify it in the next week.

By the way the lady I mentioned just now with the huge loss has invited me to a club at the weekend so who kows maybe you will make some new friends at your Slimming World club.

Can I ask where in Kent you are? I was born in Wellng, Kent which is near Bexleyheath.

Hey Gem!!! I am in Sidcup, I actually do alot of shopping in Bexleyheath!!!

I am feeling really positive about it...I love the fact that everyone is so friendly and supportive...I think it is a great way for me to meet people...I am starting a computer course in London next week so that will be great for keeping me out of the fridge during the day...LOL

Thanks for the advice on being slow and steady!! I have a tendency to get discouraged when the weight is not coming off as fast as I would like...I am trying not to let that happen this time because I want the weight to come off permanently...I am soooo done with the yo-yo syndrome!!!

Thanks again Peacock!!

My Mum was raised in Sidcup, I used to love visiting my Nan there as a kid, she lived in Orchard Rise West, anyone know it?

I didn't know idcup very well. We had to rely on buses when I was young and I remember that the bus drivers only allowed one pushchair (closed up) on the bus. Can you imagine that now with the "young mums with attitude" who don't even have to close their pushchairs up or take the child out! Many is the time we had waited ages for a bus without a pushchair already in it!

I can barely remember where we lived and when we passed through once I thought how small it was!

I do remember the Rochester way because my Dad would take us for a walk along it and cross the bridge (I hate heights!) My brother and Dad would stand in the middle of the bridge looking down at all the traffic "Cor look at that huge lorry!" I would be shuffling on with my eyes and teeth clenched going "yes very nice, can we go now?!"

It is an extremely busy road that my younger brother ran into when he escaped from the health centre. My poor Mum! Luckily a guy painting a house saw him and ran into the road to grab him. He had run quite a way before he was stopped!

whats up with me..i've eaten an apple and a banana on the same day  now if i can keep away from biscuits..chocolate.. sweets and beer i'll have cracked it  i'm trying to decide whether to have another Green Day tomorrow or try an Original one..if i have an original one i can have more of the roast beef that i had for dinner...it is soooo gooood and i could have eaten more than 3ozs..i know..i'm a :ink:  but if i have more then i can't have all those lovely spuds :?: back to my books to plan tomorrow's meals

Hi Melissa

I've been on SW plan for a while now. Only lost 7.5 lbs so far as I'm still trying to "undo" Christmas ;) Although I'm not vegetarian I do green days nearly all the time as I don't eat a lot of meat anyway and the amounts you can have a B option are enough, but in practice I eat even less meat now than I did before. Some of my favourite microwave meals have had to go by the wayside as they aren't totally red or green and are too many sins to fit in otherwise, but other than that I find it really easy to follow.

It took me a couple of weeks to really get the hang of what to buy when I went shopping, but I now have the SW booklet of Free Branded Foods, which is an absolute life saver.

Well done on your first weeks loss.............that's fantastic!!!

MelissaA
02-03-2003, 12:15 PM
Thanks Sandi, I was disappointed this week because I didn't lose anything...I had hardly any sins at all so I was pretty horrified...My meeting leader went thru my food journal and it seems that I was not eating enough, so the optimizing was not working...Hopefully this week will be better...As recommended I am using all my allowed sins so we shall see...:)

cat90
02-03-2003, 10:18 PM
Oooh..Melissa are you sin free ;) i'm not..in fact i have way to many :o but i'm tracking the cals so hopefully it will all work out, this Friday's weigh in will tell the truth..i must confess i'm a sinful :ink:

MelissaA
02-04-2003, 07:33 AM
Being sinfree was the problem...I was not eating enough for the optimizing to work...I am sure you did great and this week I have been a brazen sinner and utilizing the food I can have...Hopefully I will have lost this week...

One of the things our group leader always says is to eat a wide variety of foods, not the same thing day after day, she says that eating a variety of foods helps your body to metablise more efficienly!:)

A woman in my class went a bit crazy the other week and ate nothing but fruit and yogurt (perhaps she should have asked to go on fast forward instead!) and lost 1lb. Of course she was disapointed, but it was clear she hadn't been eating enough to lose weight properly.

Our consultant got her to go back on the regular SW plan, and she lost 4lbs the next week!

I'll second the advice to eat a wide range of foods. Your body doesn't get used to what you're eating, and of course it means that your less likely to order in takeaway or go out for a rich meal one night because you got so bored with what you were eating you just couldn't bear it any longer.

MelissaA
02-04-2003, 10:27 AM
A variety is pretty much what I am trying to do this week...I think my mistake was thinking that since I lost six pound having my sins, I would lose tons having no sins...Totally misguided in retrospect, but this is where having the meetings helps...If I were on my own I probably would have given up...

02-04-2003, 09:15 PM
You're doing great Melissa ;) i can't wait to hear how much you have lost this week :D i'm sticking with my exercising faithfully and i'm enjoying this plan even tho' i can't buy any of the sinfree branded products that i read about in the mag :( i'm going to compile a list and the next time i'm in the U.K. i'll be able to eat lots and still be on plan :D instead of putting weight on like i usually do

Hi Melissa

I don't come on to this site very often. Glad to see that you are getting on so well on the SW plan. I'm stuck in a bit of a rut since Christmas, can't seem to get my hear round it, I've lost a bit of the Xmas gain but still have 1 left to get rid of.

Keep up the good work

Thanks Sandie!!!
I understand about the holidays, its very hard to get back into the swing of things after the holidays...I enjoy doing SW, because it gives me the flexability to to cheat if I need to by saving up my sins...LOL
I am sure you will get the excess off...Good Luck!!!
