Well our old thread got closed for being too big, guess we are just an active group.
So good morning everyone. Had a wonderful visit with my father last night who was in town for just one evening.
He got to meet his grandson for the first time and it was a great visit.
Found out some things about my mother that weren't so good.. apparently he doesn't have high hopes that she will get over her current illness etc. so that was kind of eye-opening.
But it was a good night.
Have a great day everyone!!!

Have to bump it to the top since no one from my thread can post anymore.
Would be nice if the moderators close our thread for to many posts they at least post a link to a new post rather than just close it on us.

Wayward - Good job! Also - so sorry to hear about your mother.

So, I'm addicted to asian food - so one thing that is keeping me going is tamari. But, obviously even though allowed - it still has sodium. My question is - how much tamari is too much tamari?

has anyone here ever had or even heard of 100% fat free cooked ham? We can have that...but I have only seen ever 98% fat free...Trader Joe's may have it maybe?
Wayward, thx for starting a new one! I was going to do a new one in July if they didn't close the last one on us!

Yay...I was a little panicked this morning that the other thread was closed. Not sure what to do without my other newbies supporting and inspiring. Sorry to hear about your mom, Wayward. That's always a tough thing on the heart.

I'm happy to say that I've been OP since my Saturday night slip up (cold beers at a BBQ) and I'm finally starting to get my energy back.

I have a question to other newbies...do you allow yourself to have restricteds and higher carb packets or do you stick to the lower ones? I know the protocol allows a certain amount of restricteds per week but I haven't had any of them yet because I'm worried about slowing my weight loss.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows why we can't have avocado...I miss them. I know they are high fat but it's good fat. I ate them my first week because I didn't know they weren't allowed and they curbed my craving for something creamy.

Wayward, thx for starting a new one! I was going to do a new one in July if they didn't close the last one on us!

We actually picked one up at our local supermarket last week.
Got a 3.5 lb ham, and it was 100% fat free, it had pretty high sodium, but my coach said just do it like once or twice a week, has like 1500grams per portion that we are allowed.
But when you figure you don't have to add salt to it obviously and you can just not add salt to your veggies that night it is kind of a wash.
I sliced it up into 1/4 inch slices and grilled it.
It was pretty dang good.

And no problem on the thread, now that I know they get slammed closed at 500 posts, I will just start a new one each time and post the new link in the future.
I tried to send a message to the moderator that closed it to have her add a link but she was offline.
Oh well we know for next time.

Oh yeah weigh-in number 3 tonight :D

I have a restricted every day, that is my one thing different. My coach said it was no worry and it was allowed one per day for a reason.
I mix it up, one day BBQ crisps...good btw, then Southwest Puffs...still my favorite. Sometimes I have a bar, but I don't have much desire for sweet stuff anymore, once in awhile.

I will let you know how it affected my body tomorrow after my weigh-in tonight.
My coach made it sound like it was no big deal to have 1 a day, but not to have more than 1 ever..

The avocado... no clue for me, too picky to like guacamole lol.
If I remember tonight I will ask for you.

Remember it has to come out of your daily protein count though, sure it's nice to make things taste better, but we are only allowed so much extra protein per day, so if you use 2 oz of turkey in your soup you have to drop your dinner by 2oz. And some coaches are only allowing 6oz for dinner so that would make it 4oz.

Just remember

Thanks for opening a new thread to keep us going. I was panicked this morning as well when I went on and it was closed.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my dad just over two years ago and it's not easy. He'd been sick for many years and nobody ever gave it thought that one day he may not come home since he was in and out of hospitals regularly, but that's what happened and it took everybody for a shock. I still miss him lots.
I love looking thru this thread. The encouragement is awesome and it's great getting ideas of what to do with some of the IP foods that aren't that great by them self.

I finished day 3 yesterday. I was later getting in from work since I stopped to stock up on veggies. When I walked in my son had baked a frozen pizza and the smell was so good. It was so hard not to cheat, but hooray I didn't. My supper was awsome which made feel so much better that I had resisted even having a nibble of pizza.

My supper was so good I felt like I was cheating and it was really filling. I'll tell you what I had and if I had something I shouldn't have please bring it to my attention. I used the allowed amount of olive oil, sauted garlic, shrimp, asparagus, green pepper, green onion, bok choy, and mushrooms. I added the sea salt, some Mrs Dash, cider vinegar, soy sauce, and hot sauce. There was lots so I have supper for tonight as well. It was yummy. I need to buy a food scale because I'm not sure if I might have more shrimp than 7oz.

Sorry for being so long winded.

Hope everybody has another successful cheat free day:).

Btw for sea salt I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/Coarse-Sea-Salt-Gu%C3%A9rande-Stand/dp/B000X5YM7O/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1311791069&sr=8-7

It's on sale right now too, dangit lol but I have had it since November. It's a lb of salt in a resealable bag, it will last a long time but it's only $4.15 right now.
It's dark grey sea salt and has a really good flavor, you may need a grinder which I have but it's pretty small overall compared to some salt you see.

Good luck on the weigh in Wayward!

I was told the avocado is not allowed because of the oils in it. I cought that right away since they are a fav. The day before I started I had tacos with avocado knowing it would be a while till i could have either again.

As for the restricted IP foods. I was also told I could have one a day which for me has been the peanut bar for snack. I hope I'll see positive result when I first weigh after one week.

I picked up Kolorabi. Does anybody have suggestions in what to do with that. I thought I had read once about cutting them into FF strips and baking in the oven?????

O.k. lunch is over, of course I forgot this was my late day and only took 30 minutes instead of my hour I get... 2 weeks in a row dangit.

Breakfast - big shock, cappuccino drink
Lunch - bigger shock, chocolate drink, cucumbers and radishes

Now just need to get my water intake down for the day, you almost want to wait until after weigh-in I swear lol.

Hope everyone is doing well.

30to lose, is that Grande Prairie, Alberta?

I'm on my second day, it is going very well. My coach suggested a huge salad and said don't worry if it takes an hour to eat. Good thing I have the summer off, I wouldn't be able to get it all in on my lunch break.

Yesterday evening I make a chicken stir fry with all the veggies 30 to lose mentioned.
I used the WF ginger dressing on it. I thought I'd have enough for two meals but hubby came home and couldn't get enough of it. He kept saying, "You've never made a stir fry this good before!" I didn't tell him it was "diet". He has no weight issues, I hope he doesn't end up slipping through a grill if he likes all my OP meals that much.

I eat Kohlrabi raw or baked in the oven sprinkled with salt (and parm but not allowed here).

Speaking of not allowed, I was great yesterday and graet . . . until a few minutes ago. I caved and allowed myself a bowl of homemade blueberry gelato for my son's first birthday. I guess I am thinking this diet isn't for me, sad to say. I seem to give in to something every couple of days even if my resolve is otherwise good. I had a whole bowl (probably 2 servings, or 1 cup)? I made it slightly different than called for so the sugar was lower but milk carbs higher (because I didn't use heavy cream or half and half). Anyway, again I think it puts me around 100 carbs. don't think I was even back in ketosis again after my downfall the other day so at least i don't think I am hurting myself that way. Anyway, will talk to my coach tomorrow and see what thye suggest. I think I will start Phase 3 and wean myself off of IP over the next few weeks given that I cannot stick to it very well.

Going to try for some exercise tonight to get rid of the carbs but I know that doesn't solve the problem.

Anyway, I am really surprised at how much I am failing here =(

coliep, thank you for the welcome. My baby is almost 2 and half. My problem is that I now weight about 10 pounds more than when I got home after my youngest was born!

useruser, me too, day 1 and I felt so hungry mid morning that I had my lunch just before 11, lol! I am going to have my snack in mid morning tomorrow and push my lunch to about 1 pm. I usually have breakfast around 7 am. How was your day 2?

Wayward, thank you for starting the new thread. I bet your dad was so exciting meeting your son. Sorry that you heard your mom is not doing as well as you thought.

JoseyM, last time that I lost weight, every 11 pounds that I lost I went down a size. I bet you are going to fit into most of your pieces in no time.

Coliep - don't be so hard on yourself - you're in good shape - you exercise regularly - you give in, typically, to reasonable things. You are not far from your goal weight - and that weight loss can be a different kind of beast. You naturally, it seems, tend to be a clean eater - just stick to less processed foods, good portions, and eat clean. That kind of diet should work well for someone that exercises and needs energy (if you're really getting off).

How did just going off of it work for you? Did you gain back

I don't want to go eat and eat and eat, but I do want to be able to enjoy a special treat (i.e. on my son's first birthday) or a tablespoon of peanut butter if I am feeling it... So I feel like I can sustain this eating OP 90% of the time . . . but on IP, 90% just isn't good enough....

I get discouraged too - I'm not seeing great numbers, since Monday I've dropped at most .6 pounds - so at this pace, I could be doing any number of things and it working. But I have the food until August 5th so I'll see what the final tally is there. I know I look better. And, because I have a wedding looming, I've been able to stay OP.

Is it possible that too much tamari would slow me down? How much is too much?

Also, when are we permitted to start exercising? Has anyone found that they lose weight slower when the exercise?

coliep, you are not failing. You have the right attitude, talk to your coach.

But yes it is very important to mentally be ready to lose weight. Somehow in my head I was ready to lose weight back in 2004 and within 9 months I had lost 40 pounds. Since then I have not been able to set myself straight. Today was tough for me, and so I had an old thread here open and every time I wanted to eat something I went to that, read a few posts, saw that many had struggled, saw that they hanged in there, and at the end they were successful. That helped me a lot today. I am planning to read old threads for couple of weeks and hopefully that would put me on the right track mentally.

Good luck.

Tamari has a lot of salt. You are not having your sea salt and the tamari are you? I would probably just have the Tamari once or twice a week. You could be retaining water.

I have been using Tamari, also. I had it yesterday (wasabi with tamari as a dip for ahi). I have also used it in a stir fry. I had it tonight as well with some fish (though it kinda sucked!). Anyway, I have felt swollen some mornings after and not others. I am not using large portions of it, so I am not sure if it is necessarily the culprit. I say up your water a lot, decrease the tamari and limit the tamari. Also, I buy the reduced sodium tamari . . . perhaps use that one instead?

When cooking with it, I usually have a little olive oil and/or pam in the pan that I am adding it to. You can also add a bit of water, then let it all cook down so you get the dispersing action with less actual tamari. Does that make sense?

cherbee82
07-27-2011, 09:10 PM
Yes - I use ... maybe a tablespoon at each setting. Have the reduced sodium. And have had slightly less water intake and upped tamari as of more recently. Obviously at the end of the day - I lose the weight and the tamari just masks it - so I know if there is additional bonus pounds - I've already won them. If there aren't - then I'm glad I've had my asian flavor. :)

coliep

Ha, I like the way you think! I say enjoyment is 1/2 the battle so if it causes a little water retenion and you are ok with that, enjoy your tamari -)

Pat, yes that is Grande Prairie, AB.
I didn't get the WF ginger dressing because he was out of that one at the time. I'm going to pick it up the next time I go in.

Today was day 4, and it was really tuff. I had no energy and about half an hour ago I slipped and had two choc covered almonds. I was so proud I didn't cheat the first three days but today was too much. I started to question if it's really worth it, but I can't give up. I still weigh the same as I did shortly after my youngest was born last summer, and wasn't good at getting myself excercising much this past year.

30tolose - give yourself the week, just tell yourself 1 day at a time. 2 little nuts won't kill you . . . a few more might take effect though so NO MORE -) By tomorrow or the next day, your cravings and fatigue should fade. AND (druuuuuuummmmrooolllll) you should also see a nice big loss. My first week I lost 6 pounds. I have obviously had my slips since then and my weight loss has definitely slowed. Just think, had it not slowed and had I stuck with it 100%, I would probably only be about 7 pounds from goal! instead I am 10. Just think of the short term, a few days to feeling better, a few more til a big drop. You CAN do it!

I am in Edmonton. I was sort of chuckling about some of the veggies we were both using. I was thinking it likely hasn't been too long we can be this far north and go out and pick up some of those things whenever we like.

No kidding about the veggies. I was so surprised when I stopped at superstore the other day and the selection was awesome. They had baby bok choy!

Um.. i went off plan for a bout 2 weeks.. i lived off of real ceasar salads and i ate cheescake and carrot cake(lots of it) and a bunch of other sweets and junk food treats..i of course i ate real meals..but had sweet and junky things too.. In the end i gained about 4 pounds back and then i lost those 4 pounds in about 2 days.. (most of it was probably extra water weight)..Think of it this way..: It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound..if you exercise and you stay under that number most days..your not going to gain weight..you might gain some water weight from the carbs..but not actual fat".

As far as the 90% goes.. i dont agree with people saying "100% only" .. I just read an article in the news today that said if you stick to a diet and you follow it 90% succesfully..then you are going to be succesfull..So if the 10% your not being good is because of one spoon of peanut butter a day..then your still going to be succesful..plus: the carb count is low..

Im not trying to justify you cheating..but what i am doing is showing you that perfection is impossible for everyone to attain all the time..and i could care less if someone said "im 100%" for life..they are lying..because eventually 1 time in i dont know how many years they live to be..they are going to go and eat something that wasnt allowed..we are human..

Its also like this analogy: A trainer teaches a kickboxing class every day..there are thin people and then there are fat people. The trainer of course is fit ..and does the high kicks..the thin and fit people do the high kicks as well..but what do the fat people do? They do a modified version of the high kick..so in other words..its a kick thats not as high..but they do it to the best of there ability.. Sometimes in life..we need to modify ways of doing things until we are ready for the expert moves and ways in life.. So..my point is: Do what you can do to the best of your ability..and this is the important part... You have to give it your best..your absoloute best.. so if you said to me " Jases girl.. i worked out, i ate healthy all day but i caved right before bed with a spoon of peanut butter but i gave it my absoloute best today".. then i would say "hey coliep..okay..as long as you gave it your absoloute best today..its okay" "try again tommorow"

So im going to hold you to something.. if you want to eat your peanut butter..your one spoon of it..then go ahead..BUT you need to give it your best and you need to tell someone you did..AND! you cant lie..

So give it your best today! and dont quit!

Thanks Jases! I have been honest about my cheats so far and will try to be back on the again today. I love the analagies and that viewpoint does make me feel more hopeful that I can succeed. I am not 100% perfect all the time and knowing that I can be on this diet and still succuumb to my very human weaknesses is comforting. But, yes, I agree . . . I don't view this as a license to cheat. Still not gonna bring PB back in the house lol! And, the birthday is over and we ate enough of the gelato where the kids will take that down soon as well. I am sure there will be more bumps in the road, but I will give it my best!

I have also been doing some reading because, in all honesty, many of the advice/responses I have read on this site just regurgitate the protocol but they aren't otherwise very informative. I am slightly skeptical of the absolutely no sugar rule when IP products have sugar etc. Anyway, just my own doubts even though I know it works. I have been reading about cyclical ketogenic diet, which I think maybe be a good option for me as a modified IP if I continue to struggle this way...but I get that it doesn't retrain the pancrease so I will continue to do some research and in the meantime stay on IP, shifting to Phase 3 if they let me!

The scale is, not surprisingly, not down much today. Overall for the week I think I was around 1.5 lost. That is still better than nothing!

I have my 3rd WI this morning, we will see what they say. I just remembered that my coach is on vaca so we shall see what kind of info I am able to get . . .

Coliep, I think researching ANY diet program is key, and truthfully, we all should do it. You know I have followed your posts, and we are all friends here to support each other (disclaimer), so I hope you know I say this not meanly, I have not commented on your responses to not thinking the diet is for you up to now, so after reading this posts, I think you may be right, IP may not be for you, you are so close to your goal and not staring down the barrel at a 15-50 lbs to lose, it must be frustrating especially since you feel so restricted. I also think that for a program to work, we have to believe in it and I think you have too many doubts right now, there are studies that show what we think psychologically (sp!) can affect our weight loss. Again, NOT being mean and saying, you complain too much, this isn't for you....just sharing my thoughts after seeing your posts over the last week. There are other programs that may fit your needs a little more and you will be happier, and probably lose more on them.....sounds like you are on the right track researching AND you have not just gone off and been binging in light of your disappointments.......your supporter....joseym :)

Day 8 for me OP and as many of you have mentioned this is a real emotional and mental commitment. I didnt realize this when I started last week.
Keep up the good work every one, be gentle and patient with yourself

Day 11 OP for me. Besides my aforementioned perhaps overuse of tamari - I've been 100% OP. And even the Tamari is allowed. I've only lost .4 this week so far, but who knows, maybe Thursday - Sunday will be the real dropping days and Mon - Wed was invisible weight drop. :)

Good luck everyone today! Set small goals, keep those goals, be good to yourself, and have fun. Even though I'm not seeing the amount I want coming off of me - I'm proud of my self discipline - it's something that (in regards to food) I typically lack.

PLEASE LET THIS GOOD ATTITUDE BRING ABOUT MORE WEIGHT LOSS. :)

I'm starting Day 4 today. My energy fizzled yesterday while out walking. Hoping for more energy today. After 3 days I'm down 1.8 pounds which I know is probably water, but since the scale is going down, I'm very happy!

Have a fun OP day everyone!

Wow, I LOVE this analogy. You are so right.

Good morning everyone, I hope everyone is doing better this morning.
Well third weigh-in down and 5 pounds lost for both myself and my wife last night.
Lost another inch of my waist, down 4 on my waist now and 3 on my hips.
My leg finally lost a little, about 1/2 inch as well as my arm down a 1/2, chest is down something like 2.
So slowly but surely the weight is melting off.

20 days in now and still strictly OP with no plans to waiver.
I cannot wait to shock my bosses of my second job at our annual banquet in Boise this December. I shouldn't see any of them until then, they have already done most of their northern visits, so I hope to be down about 80 pounds by the time I see them.

I hope ALL of us can stay positive today......Port, give me an update, where are you at now?
I hope you are doing well.

It varies what you may here, the general opinion seems to be after 2 weeks.
I started riding my trainer a little bit during the first week, but stepped it up a little the second week.
I was too busy to get on it this week, so hopefully my upcoming week I will be more committed to it.
Of course I have new parts, including cycling shoes and new pedals on the way so that should give me more motivation to ride more when they arrive.
Just don't over due it the first week or 2 of working out.

Oh yeah my coach bumped me up to 10oz of protein last night... yay

That analogy also makes me thing of - when can we (or should we) start exercising?

In 2004 I was following Atkins diet. The first two week I lost 4 and 3 pounds respectively. Then on the third week I didn’t lose any weight. At that point people on the forum I visited advised me to start exercising, so I started walking 1-2 hours a day, basically my commute to work and back. I am planning to start walking the beginning of my third week. Nothing extraneous just half an hour to 40 minutes slow walk (3 miles per hour speed).

Thanks Josey, I do appreciate the support and don't worry, I try not to take comments suggesting I reconsider harshly. I DO get that I am venting on this site a lot these last 2 weeks as to my personal struggles, mentally and with the food. That is exactly why I am on this site and even though I am sure all the 100% OPers (and maybe everyone else) are like "here she goes again", I need to vent to those going through something similar and I like the ability to read different responses/viewpoints! Thanks for offering yours! I do read everything and, despite what it may seem in light of my continued transgressions, I start each day positive, I try to be 100%, I feel good.

Anyway, I am going to continue in Phase I for 1 more week. I am approaching this 1 week at a time. My coach gave me the Phase 3 sheet in case I wanted to, but it will actually require more planning and so I figure I might as well just try for 100% OP week like my week 1 and see how I feel.

As for WI #3, I dropped a little over a pound, lost a little in inches (I think, hard to tell bcz it was a different girl again), and my body fat% and BMI dropped again. I was encouraged by this and am hoping to continue Phase 1 until I am in 21% body fat. But, like I said, 1 day / 1 week at a time!

I found my "coach" today to be interesting. She was not harsh or reproachful when I told her about my cheats, she was more like "yeah the PB is protein and won't kick you out of ketosis in moderation". No lecture (and no advice or suggestions either). I was a bit surprised to get that response. When I told her my dilemma, stay on IP but risk cheating again (obviously not my intention, but reality is that I nevertheless let it recur) and my concerns about what I might be doing to my body or move to Phase 3, she was just like "yeah, the only way you can know if you will have better results is to stay OP 100% for a week or here's the sheet you can go to Phase 3 if you want. Really, you're thin already." While I would love to take that compliment and run, I am not actually thin. I am not overweight, but I am not thin. I have these lovely fatty areas (hips, thighs, waist/love handles) that I am aiming to get rid of. And, I think that is what IP is going to help me do. I just found it interesting that that was her response . . . at least I didn't feel like she was pushing product or the program I guess!!

Well, all that said, I am 100% OP today. Feeling good although hungry. Energy is ok despite less than 5 hours sleep. I get a baysitter and a workout tonight, so I am looking forward to that. The heat/humidity is so horrible that I think I will just take a class at the gym!

Oh, and I bought ketostix . . . just to see. Sometimes more physical reminders of what I am doing can be great motivators =)

cherbee82
07-28-2011, 01:20 PM
Just don't use the ketostix as an experiment of "how much pb can I eat before I'm out of ketosis." :) The thing about your last problem areas is that they are the most resistant to change. You won't know if they'll go away faster on IP unless you do IP. I do think the faster you lose something the faster it CAN come back - not that it will, but it could. Keep taking your time and exercising, and if you do cheat - cheat with clean foods. You'll get to where you're going - the best part of this is whether IP or not, you're not ever saying I'm going to quit trying - and the ability to continue to try is what will make you successful at the end. GOOD LUCK COLIEP - looking forward to hearing how your week goes. :)

Way to stick with it Coliep... I will be honest and say I was one of those people who would sort of think, here she goes again, I think part of it for me is while there are things you want to change you are not like some of us others here who have so much more to attain.
There are women on this thread who weigh twice as much as you, so for them it's probably strange to see you struggle when your goal is so close.
I am similar, I have a lot left to lose, and I have lost more than you need to achieve your goal in 3 weeks.

I just have to remember this is a lifestyle change for myself and that I NEED to lose this weight, you are looking to tone and sculpt your body and get thinner so I don't think you have the motivation as much as some of us bigger people.

But I applaud you for trying it for another week, remember if you workout too much they suggest taking a 4th packet, see the difference between you and I is I cannot see eating a 4th packet, I am just not that hungry, even after biking.

I think that is why they moved me up to 10oz of protein since I told them I just can't see eating a 4th packet. I know I am in the minority here and I don't mean to come across pompous or anything like that.
I don't have mid-morning snacks, I don't have afternoon snacks.
I eat breakfast at 9 after I get to work, I eat lunch at noon, and I don't eat dinner until about 8-8:30, I will admit I am usually hungry by dinner time.
And then I have to choke down a snack at around 10:30, but overall I am not hungry at all during the day.

Having a spouse who is doing the same thing I am sure makes it much easier then trying to do it solo, but my wife has lost 13 pounds in 3 weeks as well, and I already see the difference in her face and other parts of her body.
She says she can see it in me already, I do think my face looks thinner, but I think it's still pretty minor at this point.

Sorry I don't mean to preach or ramble on, I just want you to know why I don't always comment on your posts as much as others.. it's not because I don't care, it's because I don't really no what to say to drive you to do better.
Maybe I need to go back and read more about you, maybe knowing you better will help me to better understand.

Sorry I think I lost my point....
Stay positive, and we are here.

Hey Wayward..im down to 282.8 from my starting weight of 298.8..so im 14 pounds down...darn ! I wanted to hit the 15 pound mark today!.. This is my second try being 100% OP cause i had to restart this past week..so im going on...day 4??? of being back on plan..and ive lost 7 pounds in 4 days...so weight loss is good!!

Glad to hear you are doing so well! Im not quite where your at ..but hey..we are still pretty close in weight...hopefully in a few more days..but of course..your into week 3.. i would only technically be on week 2 ish..and your a guy..so you will lose it faster than i will..but hey.. i feel good about my losses!!

I think im finally starting to see a little loss here in there in my body! yay!
We are doing good!

Im on alternatives Wayward..but im doing what you are doing..i decided to add in a 5th protein packet..except instead of it being a packet..i just decided to add in 2 eggs..and it seems to have helped my losses a lot more..Im seeing bigger losses now...maybe at our size we just need more protein?

GOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!

RISE AND SHINE CAMPERS !!! ITS ANOTHER SUNNY BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE LAND OF WEIGHT LOSS!! (okay raining here)

But still!! What a good day..lost some poundage! yay!! and a few inches here and there...booyah!

I tried the Kholrabi fries last night! mmmmmmm..soooo goood! They look like fries, taste close to fries..as close as ive come yet..and totally curbs my desire for salty greasy french fries. Eating those and then enjoying chocolate covered soy puffs later..mmm ..feels like im cheating..but im not..

Glad you like the analogy Coliep...
To be honest though: I would rather you cheat on a spoon or two of peanut butter than you crave and give into something that is worse for you ..like something with sugar or carbs..

Its like me..the first time around i tried this diet..i craved ceasar salad..so i did lettuce with a tbsp of full fat ceasar dressing in place of my oil for the day and then added in some bacon crumbles.. i did this..cause if i was going to cheat.. i rather make it as close to low carb as possible! So just a thought..

Of course now..there is no cheating..im cool! I can do this without cheating this time..and i have lots to lose..

Hey Wayward! Good job! on the weigh in! Thats the way to do it!

For me personally.. i do like..3 packets and then i add in 4 eggs and 2 slices of veggie cheese at the end of the night just before bed..and i find it works..amazing...it keeps me feeling good and i thin its helping me lose..just like if you were to add another packet!! Mmm veggie cheese..the only permissible cheese on this diet!

Heather.... glad to hear you are doing so well.
Keep it up, we don't have to be at the exact same :)
It's not about the numbers but the journey and the path you take.
Keep my informed of how your next week goes with the extra bit of protein and I will do the same with my increased volume.
Then we will compare notes and then we can see who has the better option.
I might just have to pound a couple of hard boiled eggs before bed if it will make that big of a difference.

Coliep, having re-read my last post, I hope it didn't come off like I was a dick, that wasn't my intent at all.
Keep up the good work, don't beat yourself up on your slips, I don't think they will effect you as much as someone of my size, so just stay positive and you will see the changes happen.
How many times did you slip up this week and you still lost some weight? You can't complain about that, keep your head up, and always feel free to "vent" here.

Ok, so I have to admit I'm horrible at remembering to eat. I know that sounds funny as I clearly used to eat enough to end up here but I get busy at work during the day and forget to stop for food. For this week I made a commitment to myself to be OP 100% and follow the suggested times...and remember to drink a protein packet after dinner.

What a huge difference it's made. A shake first think in the morning with instant coffee gives me that little boost of energy I need to make it through to lunch and the evening snack definitely keeps me satisfied through the night until breakfast.

Nothing really exciting but I just thought I'd share that it feels so much better when I follow the plan...not just the food but the times as well.

Lol, thanks Wayward. I know that weight loss is relative and we cannot always understand where everyone else comes from, I totally get that. I also did figure I was annoying everyone with my posts, I just didn't really know what else to do. Sorry to have been that irritating voice via the computer!

I realize that my struggle to lose 20 pounds may seem trivial to others, but weight and weight loss is such a relative thing that it is still a big deal to, and a big struggle for, me. I don't mean any of that to come off defensive, because I am not trying to be, more just trying to explain a bit of where I come from and why my seemingly stupid 10lb struggle, which I know is causing people to yell through the computer "C'MON IT'S ONLY 10 FREAKIN' POUNDS, JUST DO IT" is still such a struggle!

So, Here's a glimpse into my 'troubled mind' ;-) . . .

...Imagine being a stay at home dad with your son (x3 . . . I have a 3, 2, and 1 year old), all day making him fruit salad, peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches, stir fries with a sweet soy sauce, barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, (or insert some of your favorite foods), yogurt, waffles, etc. Don't lick your fingers, don't taste anything, try not to smell anything. Keep strong the 3-7x that you prepare these meals for them day after day and then help them eat the forbidden fruit! Oh, you're hungry you say because they are eating for the 4th time and all you've had is 150 calories but you cannot stomach another lettuce stir fry or green salad? Well, just be strong and stay 100% because you will lose 1 whole pound more per week if you are perfect so, in the end, you will be able to finish this program maybe 2 whole weeks sooner...". So, you have to unlearn your daily behaviors that are well ingrained - don't eat the scraps, it's ok to waste their uneaten food, don't taste it while cooking, don't let yourself get so hungry that you are munching on it while you prepare it, etc. It's not like you can just detour the break room or skip going out to eat with people who eat things you cannot, you must have your hands in these foods all day long...

That is just sort of a glimpse into what I am doing in a day and So, my struggle comes down to a few things: (1) If I am 100% OP I will finish the diet maybe 2 weeks sooner, which I guess doesn't seem such a horrible consequence to me (2) My "transgresions" are not bad-for-me foods and I am struggling to come to terms with the fact that just because the food itself isn't bad for me generally, doesn't make it good for me on this diet (this is a hard switch for me)!, (3) I am bored and sit around thinking too much about food because its too hot to distract myself outside and I cannot get a bunch of exercise (which is what I would normally do with down time), (4) For years I have been a calorie counter / exerciser . . . This diet turns that approach 100% on its head. Instead of maintaining the min. 1200 cals I was always told I should have, this is less. Instead of daily exercise, this is none. Instead of fruit / whole grains, this is none. Those were, in my opinion, good habits that I had embraced for years [minus the wine and snacks . . .which largely contributed to my starting IP!], so it is an inner struggle to let go of good habits for other good habits. It's not like i am struggling with giving up my daily french fries, but I am trying to trade healthy for healthy, so there is a constant battle with my inner voice.

*You might be thinking, if your habits were so good, why are you here at all? I thought I was invincible with my first pregnancy and gained 75 lbs. Took off 55 then became pregnant #2, gained 26, lost all that and then some but was pregnant with #3 before getting the rest of the original 75 off. I am now working on the last 5 from that 75 and another 5 (or more if I can) to get me to my pre-desk-job weight!

So, anyway, I am working, 1 day at a time (as I know we ALL are) at shifting my mindset so that I am not letting this inner battle derail me. That inner battle (that I have admittedly lost) is what I have vented about on here.

That's a bit about me!

Opens a big window into your life actually.
It would be a much harder chore staying at home with 3 little ones.
If they didn't require so much attention etc. you could do what I do and ride a trainer, but heck right about the time you would get into it one of them would need something.
That's why my training time is so limited, I only do it when my wife goes on walks with our little one :)
Makes a lot more sense, I have to say though, without seeing pictures of you, you must be in pretty good shape at 5' 7", 145 having 3 kids right in a row.
Not to sound internet pervy, but for a mother of 3 right in a row to weigh 145 good job!!!

Make sure you aren't trying to look like one of those ridiculously skinny mom's.

I commend you for your struggles, it must be much harder than us who get to be busy at work all day and don't have to work with food as much as you do.
I know it might seem like I mention it a lot, but riding a bike trainer is pretty simple to squeeze in, even if you can only get it 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there.
It's not real loud, of course I have a little bit more expensive trainer, but when my wife and son were taking a nap the one time I rode while they were home I asked them if it was loud since I use headphones when I do it.
She said nope I didn't even hear it since the AC was on, I think what she heard was actually my trainer but she thought it was the AC lol.
I have mine on a treadmill mat to help with vibration and noise, so it takes up a little more room, about 3 feet by 6 feet, but you don't have to take up that much.

Don't do it the way I did, but for less than $200 you can go buy a new bike mountain or road it doesn't matter, and buy a trainer, you can get cheap ones for about $80 and you are good to go.
Or look on Craigslist, that is where I got my fluid trainer really cheap, saved about $250 on it.
Plus they come out of the trainers really quickly and now you have something you can go do with your kids, your husband, your friends.
This goes for ALL of us, it was suggested by my doctor I not run or walk for exercise.
While I don't have bad knees now, with my weight he said to start with either biking or swimming until I lose some weight so I don't get bad knees.

Ok bicycling rant off... but just trying to help people who think they can't do it, or exercise equipment is too expensive. You don't need a fancy exercise bike use a regular one.

Coliep have you tried any of the restricted peanut or peanut butter bars yet? I really think they will give you that fix you need.

Ha, and I kinda meant the bikini thing. It's hard to eat something that's not good for you if its resting on your belly, ya know! I have also been known to wear pants that are a bit tight in hopes that it would remind me of my goal and keep me on track!

You have motivated me about the biking. I want to train for a sprint triathlon (though I really am not a strong lap swimmer), so I am going to take my bike (which is gathering dust in the basement for like 5 years now) for a tune up =)

Good, I am glad all the hint dropping got through to someone at least :)
It's a good way to get cardio up and low impact, and pretty easy to get going.

For those that have no idea what the **** I am talking about, you hook a regular bike up to something that looks like this:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41ZHA12QJ9L._SS500_.jpg

That is actually an $80 one.

Coliep, ok I will let the bikini comment slide this time :D I just want to make sure you stay positive and don't give yourself excuses to get down on yourself.

Always with kindness intended,
Wayward

Coliep - have you ever looked at the eat clean diet? From some of your posts - it seems like you generally eat well, are you serving your kids clean eats? Greek 0% yogurt instead of the more sugary kind? Wheat products? Maybe if you're preparing clean eats any of your slip ups might not be "toooo bad" and it would be good because when you transition of IP you'll be eating clean and able to keep it off?

Just a thought - and I get the fact that regardless of how much you have to lose, constantly feeling like you want to lose and just aren't, or you're promising yourself you will and not ... it's just quite a toll. I have more weight to lose than you, but I'm also fortunate in the fact that I still have less than others. We're all at different journey points, but we all understand the mental struggle too.

You're getting there!

What is a trainer? Like I can put my mountain bike in it and it makes it a stationary bike?

I do have an elliptical in the basement but right now that time for myself during naptime (when I used to squeeze it in) isn't coming togehter - oldest stopped napping, middle is potty training w/o a diaper so I need to be here for "the call". That said, I have a sitter who comes and another mom who I swap kids for exercise time when weather permits. I have decided that I miss it too much to continue on the no exercise thing, so I will start again my old routines and just taper as I fade due to the low carbs (I do fizzle faster). I am SO excited that I get today and tomorrow to workout I cannot stand it! And, next week I have some time lined up too. It is my kid-break as well. MUCH needed especially wtih DH traveling the majority of these 3 weeks! When DH returns home, I am start doing P90X with him in the morning then going for a run while he showers . . . this is all so early the kids are usually still asleep. If I can do that, I think I will see the results I am hoping for in terms of physical changes!

Great Pic, love the 3 generations together!!

Oh, and thanks for the compliment. I have worked pretty hard to get the weight off and try to be healthy. I have a little ways to go but feel proud that I am fighting heredity and a teeny bit of gravity with my efforts =)

thanks for the comment on the picture, it's kind of scary how much I am starting to look and act like my father as I get older.
And my oldest son looks just like my little brother now.

Oh, how I miss miss miss my greek plain 0!! My breakfast of choice? 1 cup fage 0 + 1 cup frozen berries + coffee. Its like 23 grams protein, 0 fat, 8 grams of fiber. We do whole grain and I try to limit sugars but am not the best. Because of the cost of the greek yogurt, I have lately done the the Organic Yogurt Tubes - they still have higher sugar than I would like. I was making my own fat free crock pot yogurt then adding blended fruit and sweetening with agave for them, but since I cannot taste the batches and tweak I found it too hard on this diet right now.

While I do give my kids some of the less clean foods also, I am not tempted enough to cheat with them. It is the dang peanut butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, the homemade blueberry gelato I made from scratch for my baby's first birthday, that I had to of course see was palatable. I love blueberries, I love ice cream. That was a deadly, deadly combo! I won't make another batch until I am done with IP. Any special treats like that will be given my our babysitter or DH, at least now that the birthday is over. I am learning little things, like always use silverware instead of my hands when I can so I don't get sucked in. But I will give some thought to other triggers though that may be setting me up . . . that is a great thought! Yes, I picked up another box of the peanut butter bars. My WF PB is also here and I will play with making that edible!

I can barely stand the A/C in the car even when it's above 20C...or the office (I'm wearing a sweater at the end of July)...and I froze last night in the theatre. Is this normal?

No problem coliep....I use this and the daily thread to vent too, and it really stinks when no one replys or offers advice...... It sounds like talking to your coach settled you down a bit and made you more confident, you will figure it out, you will get there :)

Also, got home, had to cook dinner and THEN my new concoction of "Fiesta Meat" and sat down to eat at 7:30. Watkat - then I will try that syrup bcz the WF stuff is really like salty brown ick! Glad you enjoyed yours!

Yay Josey - great job! I made Kale chips the other day and loved them (so much that i am pretty sure I had more than my 2 cups of veggies!). I have been taking my lunch everywhere too -- usually a salad with dressing and a shake that I've frozen bcz it defrosts in time. Let 'em look =)

I had a good workout. Not a lot of oomph, but I feel very happy! I did 15 light minutes on the elliptical, then a 55 minute body sculpt class. I have been 100% OP and still have my 4th packet coming to me (I had dinner right after the workout - 8 ounces tuna + romaine/zucchini/broccoli saute).

I instructed the sitter to give the kids (and herself) the rest of the gelato =)

Coliep, the kale chips REALLY shrink and I can't resist, so since it is PRE cooking, I am sure I am over eating 2 cups of veggies. My husband and kids won't stay out of mine. Want to try some flavors. Also, does your oven smoke when you cook them????? Mine smokes up the house, I put on wax paper, could that be what is smoking? I had salad from Subway with my added raddishes (lettuce/spinach/pickles/red onion/) no dressing, because none were 0/0/0. I am waiting for WF individual packs of thousand island to arrive....

Josey, I was thinking with you going back to school you could get you a water bottle and make MIO ice cube, put them in the water bottle and let them melt. By the time you could drink it or take a break you would have ice cold MIO to drink. I froze one of my puddings the other night, took it out around lunch time for about 30 minutes and it was like an ice cold pudding it was yummy!

I made the kale chips in the toaster oven. The edges of some burned a little faster than I'd like until I turned the heat down. No smoking yet! I just did the sea salt and pam on mine. It was SO nice to have a little salty crunchy goodness!

In re going back to school, if you opt not to freeze maybe just buying the ready to drink version I have read so much about. do whatever makes it easiest on you. The flip side is that you could swap your dinner & lunch so you can just eat your protein at lunch but have your IP at dinner -- whichever makes it easier!

I tried my WF PB in a shake tonight. Still. Totally. Nasty. Biggest waste of $9 ever! It really us just not even peanut buttery at all! I tried the torani on amazon but the shipping is way too high =( Will check out my local store next shopping trip.

As for kale chips, I am not sure what you are "supposed" to do since I didn't look up a recipe, i just cut all the green leafy parts off into chunks, sprayed lightly with pam and sprinkled with sea salt then put in the toaster over til they crisped but didn't burn.

I like the Sweet Tea and the Peach Tea Mio flavors. I got a free sample of the Watermelon and hated it. Maybe I put too much in. I should try it again.

I went to Pilates after work and it felt great to stretch and not get as exhausted as I did yesterday walking 3.5 miles. I'm going to try the walk again tomorrow and see if it's getting better. When did you all feel your energy come back?

Btw, good morning everyone.
You women were busy last night.
I hope everyone is doing well, I ate way to much last night, screwed up and didn't have my veggies for my lunch yesterday so my wife made me pay last night and gave me 4 cups for dinner.
Plus a 4oz steak, plus a 4oz chicken breast, plus 2 oz of shrimp cooked on the bbq.
Man I was full, but that's what I get for not eating what I am supposed to.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.
I get to get up at 5:30 in the morning tomorrow to teach a motorcycle class, so it's still kind of my Thursday but at least this job only has one more day left in it this week.

Time to get ready for the morning meeting.

Stay positive.

Hey wayward, I ride too! I have a sport bike, love it!

Good morning every one, its Day 9 for me OP and my first weigh in is in about an hour, I'm pretty excited!!
I'm gonna also look for this teas and water flavors because the last week of drinking nothing but water has been sad, I dont drink coffee or hot tea, so I definitely need something different to get me through the next few weeks

Hope every one has a god day, I'll post my weigh in info when I get back :D

Good luck ex-piglet, let us know how it goes.

Always nice to run into a fellow rider.. Yamaha FJR1300 Sport Tourer here.
I only have 2 women in the class this weekend, but I have taught I think 70% women over the past season and a half, women are starting to ride again a lot more.

YAY Josey!!! Even though you're first week was smaller than some your second week was bigger than most!! WAY TO GO!!!

I had my first movement on my own personal scale this morining - nothing for days ... and then 1.4 drop overnight - weight is random - but it WILL eventually come off.

Keep working everyone! :broc:

Yay Josey! That is fantastic news - congrats on that loss!

I'm having the opposite problem - gained a pound this week. So, I have questions and wondering if my fellow newbies can help?

I was traveling this week, so was out of my own time zone (and schedule)... brought packets and bars with me, and probably had an extra bar on 2 of the 3 days I was gone. I also did work out (figuring the extra bar, since my timing was a mess). I ate probably more Phase 2-like, having two "meals" during the day - lunches and dinners with customers, but stayed on plan according to the protein/veggie combos. (Note here that I am truly appreciative of restaurants that will modify their plates for you!)

So, any ideas here? Is my body (in week 3) just fighting back? Did I throw myself out of ketosis with a bar? Should I actually be eating more with my workouts?

Any insights or experiences are welcome, thanks!

I am sure travelling did not help, plus the time zones, and when I live abroad and flew alot, it always made my wieght fluctuate, NO idea why..... Weight is random, I would give it a couple days and stay OP and see what happens. Do you travel like that all the time or was this a rarity??? CONGRATS for staying on while travelling!! I would call that a NSV!! just sayin'....

Josey - 9 pounds in 2 weeks is fabulous!! I just hit that in 3. VERY impressed and inspired!!

MrsD - traveling does takes its toll, especially if you were flying (water retention). They do suggest only 1 restricted per day, so 2 bars may be inhibiting weight loss but there is no way to know for sure. As for working out, they suggest an extra 1-2 packets (probably 1 unless you are highly athletic) but not an extra bar. Maybe next time just bring more packets or RTD drinks if its the convenience you need? That said, I applaud your efforts while traveling and think that while an extra bar might have slowed you (and might not have) that is WAYYYYY better than eating out or going off protocol. Great job!

I would suggest 1 day or 2 days of Phase 1 boot camp (i.e. no restricteds), up your water, and see if it doesn't balance out for you after a day or so.

Good idea on the "back to basics" approach - I'll do that through the weekend and see if it levels. And yes, I travel like this often... so I am trying to just figure out how to stay OP while I do it. I've read the "traveling on IP" thread so many times I've lost track! Appreciate your input!

Gooood morning! And another beautiful sunny day it is outside in the land of Port Hardy..

Well..i jumped on my scale this morning and it inched down another .8 of a pound..which just ticked me off!! I was like "cmon, lucky number 15..15th pound...be the right number today!" But nope...i needed to lose .2 or "200grams" for me to have officially lost my 15th pound.. Alas..i will try for tommorow..at least its still going down..thats good..

In other news today: I wear flip flops through snow rain and heat..im chronically warm all the time..but man..the past few nights..i have been freezing at work! Just cold..and cranking the heat in the office..cause man..its almost un-bearable..and usually i dont wear much to bed ..but ive been having to put my sweats on and a long shirt..Geeeeeze!!!!!

Kale chips....oh man.. i go over this every single time i go to the grocery store..every time i think "hmmm..salt and vinegar...kale chips...mm could be good..sounds good"... and then every time i look at them in the grocery store and decide not to buy them because my reaction is " oh my gosh! how can this taste good? seriously? a leafy looking thing turn into a "chip" and so once again i go by another day without trying them...

Well..im happy..its day 5 of my re-start! boo yah! and noooooo cravings at all! but im still finding myself hungry..Yesterday i downed almost 5 litres of water ..maybe thats why my face and body looks so puffy today?

Well.. i hope everyone has a great day on plan..

Oh and WAYWARD... why not spread the protein out? That sounds like a lot to consume in a sitting.. Our bodies can only actually effectivly digest about 20 grams of protein in a sitting...

Just remember every time you go to the "fish bowl" you are losing fat! then it won't be so bad to go every 30 minutes.....haha...that is how I think of it, the more water I drink the more time I go to the bathroom and more fat comes out! so I don't mind at all :)

At the end of March I could barely walk. I went to the Dr and found out that I have severe arthritis in my right hip and lower back. I will eventually have to have a hip replacement. I am only 45 and a new hip only last about 10 years the dr said. I also have no more cartlidge in my lower back or my right hip. I called my mom to tell her what I found out because I was freaking out. She worked with someone who was on this program and told me to look into it so I did and here I am. My mom pays for my food because I can't afford it. She is doing the alternative way and my brother is on IP. They decided about 3-4 weeks after I started and saw how well I was doing and got on the wagon also. My mom has loss around 25lbs and at her goal, my brother has loss 37 lbs he has 20 left to go to get to his goal. I on the other hand have 89lbs or so to go, I put my goal at 250 (135lbs to loss) because that is what I weighed 24 years ago but I know once I get to 250 I will want to go to 200 (which would be right at 200lbs). Hopefully losing this much weight I will be able to cope with the pain in my back and hip and prolong the replacement as long as possible. So to date I have loss 56lbs in 12 weeks, nothing but positive thoughts and to stay OP 100% until the very end!

Wow WUV that is quite a story! That is great that you have family support in several ways to make this journey possible. I fully believe that such a significant weight loss will help with the arthritis and your comfort level. Good for you for taking control of it and going down this path. The extra weight on top of a condition must take its toll. At almost 60 pounds gone I bet you already feel amazing! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to follow your story!

Can glucosamine or something else also help with your joint function? I am almost 38 and notice a lot of clicks and aching so I have started to take this supplement. I know there's aren't a ton of studies but some swear by it so I figured I would give it a try. Also consider accupuncture or accupressure or other wester physical therapy during your process . . . you might be surprised!

I, for one, am disappointed (but not discouraged) that the scale is up almost a pound this morning . . . just goes to show I shouldn't expect a weight loss on my time frame. It will come . . .

Wooooooooooot!!!!!!!!!!!! Everybody say Booyah!!!!!

So happy today! Jumped on mah scale and it said 281.4 which meant!!!! I have officially lost 15 pounds! I made the 15 pound mark! i was happy to add 1 dancing dude to my group and change my avatar to 15 pound chick!!! Yesssssss!!

Oh and 2 nsvs... My co-worker last night said "wow..your stomach totally doesnt hang over and stick out as much as it used to ? i can totally see a difference"

And

Another co-worker offered me a piece of chocolate and i said "nooooooo" and they said "oh sorry, thats right your on a diet" and i said "yess and im not even tempted"... :) So i think its easy to say i finally hit back into ketosis!!

The only thing that is bothering me..is my lack of sleep..like going to bed at 2am and then waking up at 7 am un-able to sleep...its like..ive got insomnia now..

When i used to eat carbs i used to have an easy time going to sleep..i would conk right out...and now..i cant get to sleep..and then when i do..im just so full of energy my body mentally is like "wooohoooo..go go go" and my body physically is "you need a nap" I cant believe how alert i feel most days now.

I have a very happy go lucky kinda person. There isn't too many days you won't see me smiling or saying something positive to someone. If I come across a stranger and make eye contact, I always say HI. You never know who you will meet or by you just saying HI might make a person's day. People get vibes when you pass them so that is why I always speak, some speak back and then again some don't, it doesn't matter to me because I felt good by saying HI!

My mom is awesome, she has always worried about me and the weight but I would just say yea mom i know. I never worried about me I worried about everyone else they always came first. The kids, the hubby (now ex) I was always on the back burner. I have been divorced almost 6 years now, my boys are in college and its time for me. When mom offered to help me I couldn't pass it up. I am doing this for me but most of all I am doing it for her as well. My mom has always been proud of me but to hear the excitement in her voice when I call her on my weigh in days is priceless. Sometimes I call her 5-10 times a day just to talk to her. She lives in Louisiana. We have been close but this journey has brought us closer. SO with that being said Thank you mom...I love you!

She reads the posts here daily but never writes anything but we always talk about everyone's posts when we are on the phone. I plan on losing all of my weight and NEVER getting off by cheating. There has been nothing tempting to me at all that I can not pass up.

Wuv2, I so get it about being close with your mom. My 37 year old son lives in NY and we're incredibly close. He's been my best cheerleader on this weight loss journey. We vacation together someone fabulous every year. We're lucky when we have close relationships with our family!

I am very close with my 2 boys 19 and 23 some people just don't get the closeness and think its weird. That is great that y'all go on vacation together, Mom and I have had some days together just her and I shopping but never really a vacation. Maybe one year we can do that, we always say we will but the funds are never there. Going to start saving my pennies!

WUV - love the updated pic - you look amazing!

Josey - I had a handful of nuts too. =(

Jases - that IS a huge victory. I didn't come out usncathed from the birthday cake that DH brought home for our son. I wasn't expecting it and I lick my fingers and the knife (which had a little hunk of cake on it). I am sorry I did it but grateful I didn't have more. Even more grateful I am showing sitll in ketosis (if the ketostix are accurate). For the rest of the night, I resisted alcohol (DH had a few drinks) and junk food. Just sipped my tea. No 4th packet. Nada. Feeling good about that because I was SOOOOOOOOOO tempted!

Weight is STILL up today. Definitely makes it hard when you are foregoing a little butter on your lobster tail, skipping dessert, not enjoying wine, not eating that corn on the cob, not having your all-time-favorite nonfat latte for breakfast all on the SAME day only to see no loss for several days (well, actually an increase and then no loss). I hope its just some weekend retention and that tomorrow or Tuesday is a big drop. If I don't see a decent drop soon, you guys are going to have a lot of pep talks to give!!

Good Morning,

Starting Day 7 today. I think that I'm getting more calories than IP with the alternative products and how I'm eating. I'm going to try to tighten it down a little more today and see if I can get down more before my first WI tomorrow morning. I'm going to really try to drink more as well.

Chocolate raspberry strawberry muffins? I must be on the wrong thread. :)

I'm off to make breakfast.

Congrats on that!! I had to do the same thing with the boys asked me to make Beignets(powered doughnuts southern style). When I would make them before I would automatically take a few taste of the batter but this time I rolled them out and my hands went straight under the water not even thinking about eating some!

Calee, My mom does the alternative way this is her menu

Breakfast -shake EAS but she puts it in the blender with a handful of ice and eats it.
Lunch she has a protein bar and 2 cups of veggies and her salad
Dinner she has 6-8 oz of protein, 2 cups of veggies and her salad
Snack another shake in the blender.

She has lost 29lbs in 8 weeks.

AWESOME on surviving the first week AND down 5 lbs that is great. Surviving the first week wasn't so bad now was it? That is the hardest week, the rest will be easy. Just stay focused and put your mind to it...anything is possible! :)

Just ate the oatmeal pancake...YUMMY...2 oz of water with one packet of IP oatmeal. Mix, spray a pan with Olive oil spray and cook!

Wuv2, thanks for posting what your mom does.

I just put in an order to Diet Direct of more IP friendly foods.

I've been having a shake or protein pudding for breakfast.
Lunch - 3-4 oz of protein and a salad
Dinner - 3-4 oz of protein and cooked veggies.
Snack is a protein bar and more lettuce if I'm hungry.

Do you think that splitting the protein 3-4 oz at lunch and dinner both would be keeping my losses down?

I'm hungrier today than I have been the other days. I don't know why. I'm still in ketosis but feel like an empty pit. This morning I had a packet of bacon omelet that I got as a sample. I'm so hungry right now that I had a bowl of lettuce!

Carlee, are you getting 4 cups of veggies a day? from the looks of it from what you listed you are only having veggies at dinner time. I do not know if the splitting of the protein would be keeping your losses down. Maybe someone else can respond to that.

Hi everyone, I am have survived one week and I'm down 5lb:carrot:. Seeing the result is going to help me as I continue to work off the other 25lbs.

Hi, we are at similiar weights or were at the beginning. I am only 5'1" though. I have a large frame though and as I am getting older (64) I don't want to weigh what I would want to in my younger days. As you get older it really goes off the face, so I would be very pleased to get 30 pounds off. Your first weigh in was fantastic. What a great jump start to getting the 30 pounds off!

My first weigh in is tomorrow. It has been a good week one I think. I don't seem to mind many of the IP foods, of course I like some better than others. I am a bit worried about picking up some more WF products tomorrow. I only got the ginger type salad dressing which is very good and great for stir frys. I'll venture in to more salad dressing tomorrow.
On day 3 I actually couldn't eat anything as I was out with a migraine. I expected that because I am really cutting back on caffine and also with the sugars living my body.Usually one pill cures it but this time didn't so it was all day with 2nd dose of meds. After I have a migraine my weight really yoyos as my body readjusts to a day of no food and the vomiting. So Im am staying away from the scale till the weigh in, I hope it is a nice start to the week.

Keep on trucking everyone!

Yay!! Totally had a good NSV today..

I was at church and this guy came up to me and was like "hey..you lost weight!" and im like "oh yes i did!" and also when i jumped on the scale..i dropped 2 pounds! yay!!!!...

How much water are your drinking Coliep? Maybe you need to up your water and bootcamp it a bit..or maybe..opposite? try playing around with your protein intake..i know that helps!

Im definitly into ketosis..im wired with energy all day..and on top of it..i dont crave and im barely ever hungry! i love it! of course i eat..but its so much easier not having that feeling of ravenous starvation! cause i really would prefer to not feel hungry and have a growling stomach...

Anywho! drink up that water peeps! its a success maker!

Oh, good luck, I won't have to do that until the end of the month as our school year runs different. I'll be interested to see how you American teachers do for the this month. I know the biggest challenge for me is to get the time to eat that huge salad at lunch so it is nice to get used to the program over the sunner break.

Pat, I will keep you posted and let you know how it goes...Our county in Florida goes back the earliest of most (if not all), most the rest of Florida will not go back for another 2-3 weeks. Teachers go this week and our students start the 8th, that gives one week of pre planning/moving. It will be an adjustment as I will have breakfast at 6 am, don't know if I will have 1st (11:10), 2nd (11:46) or 3rd (12:08) lunch yet and I won't have dinner until 6 or 7 the earliest...YIKES....plus I am used to cooking fresh veggies for lunch. oh, yeah, forgot to mention, we get a whopping 22 minutes to eat lunch!!!! :)

I was in Florida for the IRA conference in May, really enjoyed getting south, it was still cold and rainy here.
We finish school on the last day of June and I will be back third week in August.
We have 45 minutes for lunch but there is always something comes up to interupt the time.

I saw someone mentioned on one post that some US states have cut out recess and just add some extra minutes at lunch. What a shame for the kids they don't get much free playtime anymore and sure come back in better ready to work after playtime outside.

Thinking of you all tomorrow!

Sundays are really hard for me to stay OP. I think because my schedule is different. I stopped fo gas on the wy to church this evening and bought some Fritos. Ate part of the bag-got home-poured water in the rest. So still a big cheat but could have been worse. Had been doing great all week. Now it will take several days to get back in line. Need to come upwith a different plan now that I realize Sundays are weak diet-wise. Called a friend and asked her to bean accountability partner for me. She agreed and I think that will help.

Ok, so clearly this isn't working for me. I cannot seem to go more than 3-4 days OP before I have some sort of downfall. Obviously all my own doing, but since I have struggled for 3 of my 4 weeks to get on track, I think I am not doing myself any favors. So, I think I am going to go strict Phase 1 to get back into Ketosis for the rest of this week, then move into Phase 3 and on to Phase 4 at the pace my coach allows. I don't like spending 1/2 of my week feeling like a diet failure, yet obviously I don't dislike it enough to stop giving in. Anyway, perhaps seeing an end in sight might also keep me on the straight and narrow.

Coliep, at your height, it looks like you're at a great BMI. I wonder if your body is just plain hungry and when you feel those signs, you give into something that's not on plan? Do you use the bars? You might have one of those instead of whatever you generally give in to. At least you'd be getting a good protein hit with lower carbs. I'd plan in something that works for you and helps you to not feel like a failure. It's tough to not throw in the towel when you feel like a failure. Phase 1 is a great idea. I bet you'll get back into ketosis quickly. Get those ketostix so that you can reward yourself each day by seeing that you're in ketosis. It really helps me stay on track. I read Dr. Tran's online book last night and it really helped me to understand things better. Good luck. I know you can do this!!

Today was first WI at home. I'm using alternative products and was so pleasantly surprised. I've weighed myself during the week, but honestly was still shocked this morning at my success. I'm visualizing my first goal of anything under 150 to happen early this week.

Last Monday - 155, this morning WI #1 -4.6

I'm so ecstatic!!

WI # 2 this morning - down 3.8lbs! YAY! I was nervous because I only lost (I know only sounds funny here - but people typically lose more the first week) 4.8lbs ... but now 8.6 down - I'm feeling great.

I sadly think my love of tamari was definitely temporarily hiding my weight loss. :)

5 more days until a forced vacation. But ordered three more weeks of IP and I'll get back to it as soon as I get home. Also taking Whey Protien Isolate on my trip and will try to have that for breakfast and lunch with my veggies as much as possible, drink sparingly, and have very small portions of dinner.

Thanks Calee, I appreciate the kind words and thoughts. Yes, I definitely do get hungry. My first week, I did really well eating lettuce and hot salt/pepper "soup" (water) to get me through. I also slept a lot to get by. The second week I was doing really well also except that I would get kind of a hungry, weakish feeling and I craved a TBSP or 2 of natural peanut butter, especially if I let myself get too hungry. I would let myself have that, and feel satisfied but felt terribly guilty bcz it wasn't OP. So the third week I asked for those Vanilla Peanut bars, despite my desire to not get restricted foods. I feared eating those kind of bars would just wet my appetite for something sweet and also inhiit rapid weight loss. Nevertheless, I wanted to try and stay OP 100% so I got them. They don't seem to satisfy me . . . I like them but always want more :/

While I am hungry and need more food at times, especially post workout (day after usually), other times it is just me wanting the taste of something . . . a craving. I am trying to learn what it is my body needs vs. what my mind/taste buds want, how I feel after eating certain foods etc.

So yesterday's trail mix fest (a food I don't normally eat at all!) left me feeling funky. But this morning, I feel great. I feel ready for my workout, not hungry, not craving etc. nlike being really hunrgy like I normally am on IP, I forced myself to have a shake (I usually have the omelet and an entire head of romaine stir fried). I feel good and renewed in my commitment. I just wish I didn't have to cheat before I felt that commitment again.

I do hope to get back into ketosis quickly. I bought the ketostix a few days ago (and that's how I know I wasn't in ketosis this morning). I think working towards that color change will be helpful. I just wish I could stick to this diet. My BMI is ok, about 22.9 as of last week but I keep striving on this diet (vs another) because I want to burn the fat deposits on my thighs and hips and belly. I just wish I could find a way to make it work for me where I wasn't falling off the wagon each week. Even though I am losing and benefiting in certain ways from the diet, I am clearly not doing it as it is supposed to be done.

Uh oh, just noticed the time. Off to body sculpt!

To be continued . . .

Wow busy weekend... for everyone it looks like.
Congrats to everyone that had great weigh-in's and to everyone who achieved minor goals!!!
I was busy this weekend too, I had to teach bright and early Saturday morning and it was hot out on the asphalt, I have to say riding home from class was the first time I really wanted food.
I was just plain hungry that day, I don't know if it was because it was so hot, or if it was a combination of things.
I had my camelback on during class and stayed hydrated as good as I could but it was hot!

Stayed OP though, but just felt wiped afterwards.
Didn't get back in time for my reunion, even though I was so wiped I doubt I would have went anyways.
But it would have been nice to see a couple of people.

Coliep, you were doing so good, I wish you better luck at staying in phase 1 this week, I know you can do it, you almost made it last week.
Heather great job this weekend!!! You rock, keep it up and before you know it we will both be below 250.

I have been dealing with back pain all weekend ever since my class, I don't know what it was, I must have done something, picked up a motorcycle wrong, just twisted my back weird, something.
Hopefully my PT will take care of it tonight.

Everyone do their best today, stay positive and have a wonderful Monday.

Hey Wayward...Stay positive! I know we can do this.. Im thinking we should try and make a goal of like..getting into the 250s by the end of september! Cause i was thinking that it gives us about 8 weeks..and even if we only ever lost 2 pounds per week that would get us pretty darn close..but i know we will lose more then that..

Did i mention that your lucky that your a guy and you dont have to put up with TOM? Cause you can still weigh yourself and not see it go up..I on the other hand should throw my scale out for a week cause it wont do me any good to bother looking at it for a week until my body decides not to retain water.. Tut tut...

Go Coliep!-We are all rootin for you for a 100% OP bootcamp! You can do it!

Awesome news Calee! Keep it up!

Cherbee-Yah it definitly helps to reduce the salt in your diet on here from normal intake..i find i retain water lots if i overdo it on the salt..and then it makes my water drinking efforts a complete whaste of time.

Port.... yes I am a guy, but that doesn't mean I never go up on the scale lol.
I did this weekend and I sweated my butt off out in the sun on Saturday and I still went up lol.
So I am not weighing myself again until my WI on Wednesday, tired of beating myself up over it.

As for the challenge for September, let's do it, 250 or less by the end of September. Anyone else want to shoot for 50 pounds in 3 months, which is basically we what are both shooting for.
Anyone else feel free.

Had my wonderful chocolate shake for breakfast, and what am I having for lunch... the same damn thing lol.
My clinic ran out of Cappuccino? WTH, my wife and I both ordered a box and they were out, that is like my favorite thing to drink.
Oh well, what can you do, now just lots of chocolate which means at the end of 2 weeks I will hate it too lol.
Keep smiling everyone.

Wayward - maybe add some instant (or reg) coffee to your chocolate shake? Makes it more like a cappucino. I like to add a little cinnamon, and think it's really good warmed or frozen (maybe will feel like variety even though it's not lol).

Today is an evil day. My children are behaving horribly. They were whiny and misbehaving this morning, then when I dropped them off for a 1 hour dance camp and took my body sculpt class apparently they were disruptive and didn't participate and didn't earn stickers (embarrassing and a tremendous waste of $$). Then, I get home and the middle one found it funny that she peed all over a bunch of toys - that is the second "not-so-accident" in the last 2 days . . . after 5 perfect weeks. I wouldn't be angry if it wasn't purposeful. So, my blood is boiling and its giving me even worse tremors than I had all morning. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Great job to everyone else on your victories, big and small and here's to a strong week ahead!

Just got back from my first weigh in. I am beyond pleased that I was down 4.8 pounds. At 5'1" and at age 64 it is more difficult than ever to lose weight and it has always been a tremendous struggle for me.
I made the pancake from the crunchy cereal for lunch and am still thinking how good it was. This board and all your ideas is making this much more doable than doing it on my own.

I had lost 2 pounds from Monday to Friday. I was worried because I had to eat out twice over the weekend. Saturday was picking someone up at the airport and thought Harvey's was the best option available. I had the garden salad and grilled chicken which was surprisingly good. But I used their light dressing and when I came home I looked it up and was shocked to see it was 66 calories but 0 carbs. The calories must have come from the oil.
Then last evening went out for evening meal with my son at The Keg. I felt all evening like I had really cheated, I had the 8 oz sirloin and great grilled veggies, mostly peppers. But I was worried because the steak was so good that it must have been coated in nasty stuff.
But this morning I saw The Keg steak spice at the grocery store and it is 0/0/0. So with my two meals eaten out over the weekend I dropped 3 pounds. I think I need to make sure I am getting in th olive oil when I make my own stuff, there was olive oil on the salads at both places.

Hope everyone on this thread is seeing early results to motivate us to go on. I keep thinking by Christmas I should be in a lot better shape than last Christmas.

Grats on your loss, that is great!!

As for the Christmas thing, I am right there with you.
My instructor job has it's annual banquet the 5th of December each year, well that weekend anyways.
I have always been one of the biggest instructors in the entire state, and I plan on being at my goal by then if I have anything to say about it.

I plan on shocking the **** out of all of the office staff that have to order my uniforms etc... and getting to place a complete new order for new uniforms for the 2012 teaching season.

Great job on all of the weight losses to everyone!

Hi every one, today was a tough day!!!! I am attending a 2 day conference and they are serving breakfast and lunch both days.
So I stayed away from all the pastries, danish, and bread this morning. Then for lunch I tried not to stare as every one ate their dessert (fruit tarts of course, one of my favorites) the in the afternoon they had mrs fields cookies, milk and white chocolate.
I didnt have any of it but came home seriously depressed and craving sweets.
decided to get on here and read some inspiration, its only day 12 for me!
And I have to go back tomorrow :(

You did SO GOOD!! You need to take a bar with you for those sweet cravings. Just as long as you don't eat them every day you will be okay.
It is hard I know. I just keep looking at the results I will have in another 7 months (I have a LOT to lose). Food is only fuel for our bodies. That's it.

It does get easier with time. I was faced with the same dilemma when I started the program and we were having all sorts of sweets and food brought into our school for teacher appreciation week. It helped for me to walk around the school instead of being in the room where everyone was eating. Maybe try and take a walk at that time. Good luck if you have to go through all of this again tomorrow.

Patns - 4.8 is what I lost my first week too. :)

ExPiglet - Way to go - your depression today on "missing out" will turn into success on the scale either tomorrow (OORRR the next day). Unfortunately we don't always get it the day we want it.

Today is one of those days where I'm lucky that everything is clicking. Consistent losses on scale, clothes fitting better, getting easier to say no, and made faux fried "rice" for dinner. Cauliflower grated to rice size and stir fried with pork tenderloin and ginger/curry/garlic/onion powder/vinegar and tiny tamari.

Piglet & Louisianna; any kind of conference and/or also working in a school are never ending carb fests. Good job on side stepping the traps.

I wonder if other professions involve meeting after meeting with high carb treats offered non stop? Good job both of you in overcoming the temptations.

Cheerbee how long have you been on the plan? You are not very tall either, 4.8 is fantastic the first week I think. What happened at your next weigh in?
Looks like you are right on track.

My goal was to be to my goal (135ish) in 10 days. I am still 144, so obviously not going to reach that one (yes, my fault). My revised goal is to lose the last 9 pounds in the next 3 weeks while phasing out and increasing exercise so that I have been in maintenance for over a month in time for my birthday and attending a wedding and our vacation (October 1 and forward). I want to be fit and solid by the time I turn 38 and have to wear a swimsuit =) I need to keep my eye on the prize!!!!!!!!!!

When I dieted before I would make a collage of women with bodies I aspired to. I would wake up in the morning and when I wanted to snooze the alarm instead of run, I would see those and it motivated me. Perhaps I should do that again!!

I am SO sore after yesterday's workout. I fizzled A LOT during it, and it was embarassing as I was the only student so I couldn't hide. In essence it was like a personal training session for an hour. My arms look extra defined today for me and have the ache to go with it. Kinda love it though!!!!

Yes they do, but I haven't decided if we will all go or not yet this year.
My little one will be right around 9 months, and the banquet is 300 miles away.
They will pay for my travel if I fly, and we are thinking about flying down to surprise my parents for Christmas since my mother can't travel.
I would hate to wait a good trip with the little one on a banquet instead of the trip to AZ.
But we will see.

Nothing like having all 3 IP products in a 5 hour span. I will have to be very careful the rest of the day. It was hunger mixed with a definite emotional eat. My kids (and I) caused a HUGE scene when I had to remove them from a summer camp class I signed them up for. They were misbehaving and embarrassing and I came home hungry and irate. I ate a bar, because I was trying to feed the screaming baby at the same time and it's the easiest thing to grab. I then had a chocolate drink combined with my coffee because I felt myself wanting to eat the almond butter or something else sweet like the bar. So, I guess I didn't totally lose the battle? Not sure. Obviously picking the two highest carb items and having them TOGETHER is not 100% OP but at least I didn't break it (I don't think, anyway). Now, I still need to have my 2 cups of veggies but I am full, so I will try a mid-afternoon lunch snack with those and perhaps an egg, then go for a regular dinner. Fingers crossed that my choices help me make it through today ok and don't put me further from ketosis. I am still testing negative . . .

Coliep, keep fighting the fight.

I haven't had them that close together, but I have had a late breakfast before because I got busy and then I have to take my lunch at a specific time some days so I have been pretty close.

We need some kind of crappy snack food that we are allowed to eat during those stress times etc.

Could have used something last night, they put me in traction at PT last night, and it did not sit well with me. I think they had my head mounted wrong because the whole top of my head was numb when they pulled me out of it and then I was nauseous for like the next 2 hours.
Nothing like trying to ride your motorcycle home with a helmet on when you are light headed and don't feel good.
I really like my therapist, but I am going to have to complain to her the next visit.
The wife is home sick today so I am driving my little buddy around, and I am also going to be cooking tonight too as a result. It's going to be a long day here lol.
I hope everyone stays in good spirits, I am doing my best.

Ugh...so it's week 4 and I finally hit the no loss week...so soon? I think it might have been because I just couldn't feel full yesterday so I ended up having like 3 plates of salad through the afternoon and evening and tons of water. I knew I should've been careful because I was weighing in this morning but I just couldn't get past the craving for flavour. I also had a minor cheat with a piece of cheese :(

Other than that I was pretty much OP all last week. It was tricky on the weekend because I was at a team roping event which meant avoiding all of the ordered in pizzas and burgers and buckets of fried chicken but I stuck to plan. The only place I might have slipped up was the salad from McDonald's I chose to have...but I think it was a good alternative to everyone else's orders of burgers and fries. I'm just not sure the counts on it...but it could've been worse.

I have a question...in two weeks I am participating in the Weekend to End Women's Cancer (a 60 km walk over two days and a fundraiser). I am only on my 5th week of IP but I know I will need more calories and probably carbs over this weekend. Does anyone have suggestions? I know I can add extra packets and veggies and such but I'm a little worried about burning out or causing major stress to my body. I'm not using a coach for IP but I've made an appointment with my family doctor to see what she says.

I am not sure, but I would think doing the athletic protocol over that weekend would help you. Don't quote me, but I believe it entails 2 packets for breakfast, Phase 1 lunch with a hardboiled egg, 2 packets for snack, and a regular dinner. Worst case, have another packet. I haven't tried that long of a walk, but have struggled with oomph in my workouts. I can do slower paced things but I can only do 1/2 my runs and I fizzle out in classes. I finish, but I don't do so with speed or finesse, but I have not actually tried the athletic protocol either. Maybe an extra potassium and some propel zero packets for your water as well could help...

Feel sick, had the big mac bowl for dinner and wanted to throw up, it was just too much food and I still have to get the veggies in...... I just boiled two turnip bottoms and mashed them like potatos w/spray butter, pretty good, but don't think it was close to 2 cups.....don't know what else I can choke down....ughhhhhhh... this is sitting in my throat....no..more...room......:dizzy:

My problem is that I fell off the wagon earlier this week and then I keep forgetting I need to do boot camp vs allowing restricteds and so, yes, to some extent I am trying to watch my carbs . . . to get me back into ketosis easier, to see my body's reaction (my weight loss has slowed a lot - none this week), etc. I had about 150 carbs one day and about 85 another. My choices today were all the higher carb / sugar IP products, so I think my combination of bad choices is preventing me from moving into ketosis and reaping the benefits of the diet . . . at least I think!

Hi, y'all - I'm late to the chat, traveling again... but wanted to chime in on the athletic training, etc. I am training for a half marathon in November, and asked my coach how to handle it. Here's his response, with my comments in [brackets]:

In August you will only need an additional packet on the days you do the full body [strength training] workout and long runs (Mon & Wed & Sat). On the light running days [2-3 miles] as well as the long runs, make sure you have a 1/2 tsp of sea salt in water prior to and after runs with an extra potassium calcium in the evenings.

In September same guidelines apply. [same schedule for training]

In October you need an IP food 30-45min prior to workout AND runs (something solid... ie. Omelet, pancake, oatmeal, or bar. NO chips or nuts) as well as the sea salt & water, then a IP drink following all workouts in October. The peach-mango or chocolate drink mix are great choices. [short runs here are 4-5 miles, long ones up to 11, still strength train 2x/week]

Make sure you do not change anything the week prior to your 1/2 marathon with your diet. The morning of I would again go with a solid choice (like the eggs) for breakfast at least 45 min prior and hydrate with the sea salt 10-15 min before race. During the race, you should have Powerade Ion 4 drink along with water. Afterwards you will have a IP drink as usual. You should do great! I get excited just talking about this! LOL, I'll see you soon!

Maybe this will help with the long walk training as well??

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well staying OP, awesome! Wayward, hope your head feels better? You all inspired me - just want you to know that. I feel like if I screw up traveling I will have to come in here and confess and I really don't want to do that! Ha!

MrsD - I cannot imagine training for a 1/2 on this diet. I did a 1/2 mid May and since starting this cannot even run a full 3 miles. Now, it is hotter and more humid but man, I get fatigued and my heart starts racing at about 1 1/2 miles or so and then I have to do interval runs home. Similarly, my weight training (I am just doing classes like body sculpt etc) is clearly affected. I am dizzy, breathless, weaker, achy. I used to feel great and now I get super tired. You are my hero(ine)!

Ugh..what a terrible day i had a work this evening..oh wait..its not even this evening..its a NEW DAY!! PRAISE GOD!!... i just wanted the evening to be over.. I ended up missing my dinner break at work and watching my boss get mad at me for asking to go home at 11 instead of 11:30 to make up for my missed break and i ended up watching him throw cups and books and kicking garbage cans...yeah he's english and has a temper problem..

What a friggen day.. So after only eating two packets and my last packet being at 3pm and then working all the way through my dinner break..meant i didnt actually eat my dinner and other packet till 1:15 AM.. i mean normall i have an egg or two for extra protein before bed cause my body seems to need the extra protein..but not tonite..no siree bob.. I had to eat dinner and a packet just to keep caught up for the day...So i did...and it was good..but man oh man..did my blood sugar ever dive.. I came home and was very thankful that 1)my assistant boss walked me home because that meant i couldnt hit the local gas station to get junk cause i was starving and 2) im thankful that all the conveinence and grocery stores down the road from me were all closed up by the time i got out of work tonite..

I swear..if there was a grocery store open, i would have b-lined for the donuts..i was so upset and shaken by my bosses explosive rage tonite plus i have pms so im emotional plus i had low blood sugar.. Luckily.. i drank down 3 litres of water at work and it kept me going and i dont seem to get the hungry feeling now that im in ketosis..But it was even a struggle when i got home.. I was standing at the stove making my eggs and i looked into the cupboard and saw my daughters little mini ritz penut butter sandwiches and i really really just wanted to have a taste..but instead i closed the cupboard and kept cooking my eggs...cause i remembered that the last time i cheated..i didnt recover from it and i was out of ketosis and off my diet for a week or two..and i was thinking "man oh man im so close to a 20 pound loss".."dont blow it now!"...

It was hard everybody..it was hard..but you know what.. i didnt give in..I said no again...even when there was no one to hold me accountable to it..Even though i had a crappy crappy day and i could have eaten a million donuts to make me feel better.. i didnt eat a single bad thing today..i stayed 100%OP and while i dont feel 100% great at this moment and cant see or feel the happiness of my decision right now.. i have to believe that when i go to bed and wake up in the morning that i wil see the results of my commitment on the scale.. and i will see it in the mirror..

So anywho..just wanted to share my struggle and my successes of the day..this just proves to me..that i could be like the others who didnt given in..and it should prove to you..that if i can say no..so can you..no matter what life throws our way!

Wow Port - I am SO very proud of you. There are so many challenges in that story that you powered through. When you have food settled in your tummy, a good night's sleep, and you let that a$$'s bad managerial skills wash past you, you will definitely feel happy about your choices and even more elated by the results. I read somebody's signature on there a few days ago that said "If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the answer." I love that. While you were hungry, hunger is not an emergency and you recognized all of that, held strong, and fed your body what it needs. In this sense, you are paying yourself the greatest reward. Thanks for sharing with us and great job staying strong. Just think . . .if you can do that you can do anything!!

I think I must've had 5 liters of water yesterday. I wanted a good night's sleep but was up a ton of times - weather radio alarm x2, scared kid crawled in my bed x1 (thunderstorm), another scared kid crying in her bed from a nightmare, the up for good at 6. Sleeeepy. The pot o'coffee is a brewing.

Port - like you mention above, my screw up on this diet has taken me out of ketosis and I am not able to get back in so I am hunnnngry. Especially this morning. On the bright side, I did get down to 143.2, so I am down a pound finally. If the Whoosh Fairy would come and take another pound by tomorrow's weigh in, I would be ecstatic . . . but I will not hold my breath. I am happy to see 143. I needed movement on that scale. Now if I could only see a color change on the ketostix!!

I have a Body Barre class this morning. I have a new attack plan for my misbehaving children, so hopefully today goes better w/o a scene, no yelling, no spanking, no embarrassing moments in the fitness studio. And let's hope I can do whatever Body Barre is . . .

Port - What a bad day, but it sounds like you did things in your control to make your tomorrow better. Great job sticking OP even though everything inside you wanted those donuts. It's those days where we would have veered but didn't that will make the difference this time. We don't have to be perfect all the time - but more no thank you then yessssss give me those donuts and we'll get to the finish line.

GOOD JOB!!! :broc:

Coliep, I'm so happy to see you down a pound!

I woke up this morning afraid that I'd be back in the 150's, just cause why should this work for *me*? Happy to say that I'm still in the 140's and so happy since it's been since around 1975 since I saw this number!

Good morning everyone.. i dont know if its just me or what..but i feel like im in the land of bad weeks...Today my morning has gotten no better..My fiancee is pissed up the wazoo because i agreed to work for said bad a$$ manager for a few hours..aka..im pulling a 12 hour shift and i dont even work at a hospital! lol...He is mad because im not getting paid for my extra hours..but im doing it because they dont have anyone else and im hoping that showing them that im working hard and going the extra mile, that they will give me a raise....so my fiancee pretty much wants to beat the tar out of my manager for not paying me for my hours and he wants to give him heck for throwing a huge rage fit last night and throwing coffee cups and kicking garbage cans last night...i told my fiancee if he did anything to make me lose my job, that i would leave him because im working this freaking job right now to make enough money to be able to put myself through university so that i can get a better job doing what i want..the moment i have enough money i will quit, but this is the only option for a job right now that i have..there are no others that are as flexible as this one..so i have to keep trucking through it...

Meanwhile, i have to go to the store and im not looking fowrard to it because im emotional and all i want to do is go and find donuts again..it appears that donuts are my run to food in the case of emotional eating...but i dont want to..ever have that thing where you do cause you would love to have a taste of somthing yummy that you have missed but you dont because you really dont want to kick yourself out of ketosis after trying so hard to stay in it!! ..oh....i tell you...if it werent for being in ketosis..i would have gone straight for the donuts today...

My plan of attack is to run along the outside isles..get my veggie cheese and my nestea iced tea stix that are sweetend with splenda and run out as fast as i can...

ColieP- awesome on the water and the pound loss!

To everyone else who is escaping my memory at the moment..good luck! stay op!

Port, what an awful job situation, I can't imagine a boss getting away with such abuse. Missing your supper break put you in a very long stretch of time without food which would not be aceptable if you weren't following an eating program.

Good for you! I would have lost it long before I was facing the little treats in the fridge. Great decision to turn back to the unexciting eggs.

Port - you just keep your chin up, girlie! Hang in there. Not all bosses are like that and I hope - soon - your jacka$$ boss goes the way of some others. My fingers are crossed. I am super-proud of you handling it all and not caving, though - I hope you gave yourself a big ol' pat on the back for that!

Coliep - I'm definitely struggling more with this training than I have in the past, but I am also WAY out of shape after having two kiddos, too. So for now, I'm blaming it on that... keep you posted on how it actually goes. I am, though, struggling with not really seeing any numbers changing on the scale. I have WI on Friday (of course the day after another plane ride, go figure) and am really hoping to see a drop.

Cute - good luck with the training! It's for a great cause, though, so you at least have that fabulous motivation! You can do this!

Cherbee - TOTALLY agree on zucchini in olive oil feeling like a massive cheat! For dinner a couple weeks ago, I julienned my zucchini the long way, sauteed in olive oil & garlic, and threw in some shrimp... and then doused the whole thing in lemon juice. Absolutely IP Phase I friendly and a great sub for shrimp scampi - that felt downright wrong but I enjoyed every bite!

First weigh in today, fingers crossed.

I didn't find the food too bad for the first week but am really looking forward to being able to pick more what I want. I found I was given a LOT of puddings and a lot of chocolate items and I'm not a chocolate person. (I know, unbelievable)

Yah i hear ya Patns...as i said..its the only job that is flexible enough for me to take care of my daughter and go to work..cause we cant afford daycare and we make to much money as a household to be able to get the daycare subsidy from the government..so its this job or nothing..and really..im doing this for my family..if i have to put up with it i will.. its going to be done soonish..im getting closer to my goal..so ive just got to hang in there..

On the other hand...man..what a bad day for eating..Ever since i got into ketosis..i cant seem to remember to eat..im never hungry anymore! which is nice! except that i cant rememebr to eat...i ate a packet at 12:30pm lunch and then didnt eat again..until now..and now its 1:30 am..and i still wasnt hungry even when i got home...sadly in the house..no more eggs :( So.. i turned to a high fat alternative..bacon...i was thinking " its going to keep me in ketosis but its going to add the calories and the protein fast without having to consume a lot of it"...Odds are i wont go down on the scale by the time i get up..cause of water retention due to the massive salt in the bacon...but oh well..It was the best thought i could come up with that would mean eating little to boost the calorie count from 140 up to around 1000... I was so afraid i was starving my body..

Plus: on top of not eating all afternoon and evening.. i also felt emotional..and i really wanted to binge on donuts and coffee...so instead i chose the fatty calories over the carby calories..

These arent very good excuses are they? Well.. i deserve it..i should have eaten instead of working through my break...and i should have set my alarm or something to remind me to eat..cause i planned.. i had my packets...but i forgot to eat..cause my body never kicked in to say i was hungry..On top of it... i drank about 4 and a bit litres of water..so maybe that contributed to the no hunger signal?? Am i sound crazy now?? like have i lost it?? or does someone understand what i mean..by not hungry??

Port - I have heard that people are not hungry once in ketosis and that you do have to remember to eat sometimes, or force it down. It is good practice for post-IP when you need to eat every 3-4 hours so it may just take some time. Don't worry too much if it happens one day, you will get into a rhythm soon enough! Great job on resisting the donuts etc. I, too, have had a few moments of eating more than I should or things not on my Phase I sheet and I am just trying to do my best not to ruin the whole diet (i.e. choosing protein cals or fatty cals over carby cals). We do our best. it is still working, you are not harming yourself if that happens here or there, rather you are proving you have control even under harsh circumstances.

Today will be WI4. I am going to go by my scale (since it is always lower - first thing in the morning, no clothes on etc.). So, 142.6. That's down about 2.25 since last WI. Not bad.

O.k. weird, I got no email about updates to the thread at all, I thought it was just a dead day yesterday.
I was out sick yesterday so I am sorry I missed everything.
My head is still bugging me since the traction on Monday, I am still light-headed and dizzy, but not as bad I think... guess I will find out today after a long day of staring at screens.
Heather, I am sorry you have had such a rough couple of days. I won't get on you for the bacon for that :)
I know what you mean about the not being hungry, I go a lot of days without eating for quite awhile.
I eat lunch right at noon, but there have been days we haven't eaten dinner until 9:30 just because of stuff going on.
Then I have to force down my snack.

I had my 4th weigh-in yesterday, I got yelled at for not eating my veggies all the time, I need to work on it, but I am not hungry for them.

Looking forward to a lazy weekend, too bad I have two late work days before that happens, but then it should be a smooth weekend.

Still going strong on OP I think I actually convinced another woman to try IP yesterday while waiting for my appointment. She was waiting for a massage appointment, and I started telling her about the program when she asked me if I liked it. She really seemed excited after talking to me about my wife's results and mine.
So yay, I may have helped another person, with just a quick 5 minute conversation.

I will be around most of today, so feel free to sound off on me today.
Take care everyone, and congrats to people with weight losses and for everyone else who is staying strong.

You are all in my thoughts.

Hello my favorite forum IP'ers!

Port - I can't imagine all the stress you are handling right now. And to be handling it while taking care of yourself. It sounds like the job situation is a bit out of you control - and not something that you can easily shed - but the thing that is in your control, your health, you're doing beautifully at. Remember to keep taking care of yourself and hopefully it'll help make those bad work days seem more manageable.

I leave for vacation tomorrow - so I basically have two more days on full IP. I'm going to attempt to do an alternative version of IP - but it definitely wont' be strict Phase 1 - and I'm so fearful to give it up. I know that I can come back and get back in ketosis and at worst I gain some weight and just take more time. It's just been so nice to not be starving all the time. I'm going to count Friday morning as a very short WI # 3 (or maybe WI #2.5) since it'll only reflect 4 days of the week.

What I'm not looking forward to is weighing myself when I get back. Maybe I'll go straight into phase 1 and weigh myself that following Monday. :)

I had my 4th weigh-in yesterday, I got yelled at for not eating my veggies all the time, I need to work on it, but I am not hungry for them.=.

So I make my kids kale berry smoothies (frozen berries, kale, ice, plain yogurt). You can get a ton of kale in there w/o really tasting it. Perhaps if you blend the Wildberry Yogurt drink with 2 cups of kale and ice you can get the veggies down w/o having to really eat them? That could help for a meal . . .

My official weigh in was ok - down 2 pounds (shows 144 on their scale). They seem ok with my approach (and my failures), probably because I still spend a lot of money with them. My body fat decreased again so I am happy about that (assuming the little machine is accurate) even though there isn't much change in my measurements. She said I should go to Phase 3 in about 3-4 pounds, which is possible to achieve with one 100% week she thinks. That feels unrealistic but I'd love to believe it! Imagine, next week hitting the 130s and then changing phases. SHe did say some people see an initial weight increase when they shift to Phase 3 so that is something to bear in mind. In the end, I am down 11.2 lbs in 4 weeks =)

Today I had a vanilla shake @ breakfast, bar for AM snack, grilled chicken salad @ lunch, chocolate shake for PM snack. I will likely need another snack before my workout and then i will come home for a late dinner. My muscles, particularly my right bicep, are pretty tight even though yesterday's workout was very light. Hoping not to be humiliated tonight!

Grats on the 2lbs Coliep... any loss is good, especially considering the percentage you have to work with.
You should be happy with that, you have had a weird couple of weeks, so to still be down even a little is good.
I only lost 4 this week, and I am 100% OP and twice as big as you, so that's good in my opinion.

Keep it up!

Port Hardy, sorry you have to deal with a jerk. Are you in a unionized environment? Because that is not acceptable treatment. Saying no is one thing but throwing things is harrassment and bullying.

But I have to admit the main thing that cross my mind was SHE WALKS HOME - IN PORT HARDY - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT???? You could be eaten by a cougar. Cougars are absolutely my biggest fear in the world.

I went on a kayaking trips from Telegraph Cove and every night I could hardly even get out of the tent to pee because I was so afraid of being eaten by a cougar.

LOL is there any I hate, yeah pretty much all I have to have, I only like the ones we cannot have.
And I hate cooked veggies, that's what makes it really hard.
I am limited to RAW - cabbage, cucumbers, radishes, celery, turnips.
But I appreciate the thought :)

Raw turnips, eh? Never tried that before! So no cooked veggies, huh? I guess when you are done with IP you will have a lot of V8!

So I am assuming you've made cole slaw with your cabbage? Kohlrabi is pretty good raw, too, and is cabbage-esque in flavor.

Have you considered the cauliflower rice or mash (i.e. similar to mashed potatoes?). Personally it doesn't appeal to me, but perhaps you could squeeze them in?

That must be a big challenge, I don't envy you bcz I would certainly get sick of the handful of raw ones too. What about in a soup and chopped pretty small? broccoli or asparagus chopped relaly small or only al dente in the broth?

Well fellow weight loss buddies..my idiocy got the better of me tonite...I got home from work last night, ate my bacon and went to bed.. My hunny woke me up at 5pm!!.. I slept for 15 hours!!!!! i slept the entire day away..and not once did i wake up out of hunger.. So then i rushed off to work at 5 and didnt have a chance to eat..finished work at 9pm and then was ready to race home.. i had already drank my 4 litres of water..managed to have a fight over the stress in our lives over both of us working..(my hunny thinks im a biatch and that im horribly too tired since ive started this job) and so..on top of feeling emotional and plain lazy and frustrated about not "seeing" my weight loss..i went to the conveinence store (which is not usually open when i finish my shift) and gave into PEANUT BUTTER CUPS! ICE CREAM! AND CHIPS!

Part of me was thinking: Okay..need to get myself out of ketosis so that i get my hunger back so that my body reminds me to eat..cause im forgetting way too often these days..its too easy to go without eating for along time..i want my routine of eating 6 times a day back!!! I feel lost without it! And it makes me stop and take my break because i have no choice but not to ignore the growling tummy and feed it! If we never got hungry.. i could go days without eating! Plus..the emotional crap that got in the way..BAH!!! I was so close to being 2 official weeks OP! and for FRIG SAKES!!! Whats with peanut butter people!!!

Im beginning to think that maybe just maybe..when we crave peanut butter(cause i dont even like it)..we might be craving salt?? or protein???? Cause i dont like peanut butter and chocolate..and i certainly dont like eating chocolate and it was stupid cause man it was sweet and tasted grose! and i still didnt have an appetite to eat the bag of chips..I used to polish off a whole bag of chips and now i cant even get through 1/4 of a bag to myself..its like...i just dont crave it or want it anymore!

Im not real concerned with the scale going up..because i know that i havent consumed enough calories to make me stay the same weight..on the other hand..the carbs and sugar..will kick me out of ketosis...and perhaps i will gain due to salt intake causing bloating..

Im just so frustrated at not seeing my weight loss in my own body!! i was so discouraged..it feels like hard work for nothing..the only difference i see is on the scale..and really.. i want to see it in my clothes!!

I feel like im never going to get to my goal weight so i can walk down the isle in a beautiful dress..

Im sorry for the big rant tonite..im under lots of stress and im rather emotional and just getting off of TOM(praise god) and im exhausted from the end of the work week..

I think i need sleep now..its not doing my body good to stay up..

Im hoping and praying for a better day tommorow..and there will be no cheats tommorow.its back on the band wagon! i cant wait for my order to come in soon.. i need some variety..im runnin out!

Aw Port, I am sorry you had such a rough night (and a rough couple of days). I know it is hard not to look to food for comfort and at some point, we all give in. I am glad you didn't finish off the chips, IMO those are the worst (as they really lack nutritional value and are deep fried). You can wake up, dust yourself off, start anew. Day 1, Phase 1. You have done it before, you can do it again.

Ok, those are my nice words. Now come my tough love words . . .

Your reasoning above are excuses. I know, I make them. If you want a routine of eating 6x a day, eat 6x a day. Don't use that or your failure to remember to eat as an excuse to eat crap. Personally, I have had to tweak IP to eat more frequently bcz otherwise I get the trembles, I get grumpy etc., and I reach for off protocol foods. You can make this diet work for you. Plus, what you were doing before clearly didn't work for you (hence being on IP). So, let's work on changing your mindset. Chant to yourself:
1) Thank God I am not starving while being on such a low calorie diet. What a treat not to be so hungry that I give in to temptation by eating junk food. I have the time and stamina to plan my meals or find an appropriate option!!
2) Thank God I am fortunate enough to afford this program which also enables me to just carry bars or shakes around so that eating frequently is a breeze!!
3) Thank God I have already lost 20 pounds so quickly! What motivation! In just a few more pounds I will be down another size and people I barely know will start to notice! 20 pounds is more than some people have to lose (and, for me, what my goal is yet is taking me 6-8 weeks to lose and you have already lost it)
4) Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels
5) I hate donuts

Do me a personal favor, make a lifetime rule. Right here. Right now. "I will not eat anything deep fried." Thank includes chips, donuts, etc. There is just no benefit and even if something started out as good for you, it has lost everything. When you hit Phase 4, find a "junk food" that is a healthier option. For me, these things include light ice cream (calcium, protein) and extra dark chocolate (antioxidants). We learn to limit portions on this diet and to reframe things. Let's get your "go to" food, something healthy so that WHEN you reach your IDEAL WEIGHT you don't blow it even on a bad day. Right?!

Now, depending on how much ice cream and what kind, you could have actually gained weight given your food choices BUT it will be minimal.

Welcome to my world of getting back into ketosis. I have been trying for days now and my carb intake wasn't very high. It can be challenging, but we CAN do it. New Day. New (smaller) You!

Well the saga has been continuing in my absence.
Had to leave early yesterday because daycare called me and said my son had a fever of 102. Off to the doctor to wait for 57minutes to see someone, WTH?
Anyways, he just has a cold, no ear infections, no rash, but man he was burning up, and he took it like a champ.

HEATHER!!!!!!!!! Don't give up on yourself, I am down the same as you, ok a little more, but the same milestone basically, and no one other than my wife has said anything to me, or noticed.
There are even people who know I am on a diet and they haven't said they have noticed anything.
The important thing is have you noticed? I have, there are aspects of my body that I am monitoring, and I can slowly see changes happening, common things you used to see every time you were in the mirror, or getting dressed etc.
Look for things that define your size, and monitor them and watch them get smaller.
Some of my clothes look better on me, that I know. Of course it's easier when you wear 3XL to notice when it's wearing "bigger" on you.
But I have put on a few of my 2XL shirts and noticed they are getting closer to fitting on me more like I would like them to.
I know I am only down 22 pounds, but I have seen the measurements drop, of course my belly went up 1/2 this week...wtf? I must have measured in a different spot, but my waist still went down, I think I have dropped like 6 inches now on my waist, not bad for 28 days today, I cannot complain.

It sounds like you need to sit down and have a serious talk with your man, maybe he needs to understand how hard this diet is for you, how much you are struggling to stay OP. Let him know you need encouragement and support, especially with everything else going on at work etc.
If he can't be there for you and support you, and want you to be there longer for him by being healthy, than maybe he isn't what you thought he was.

We all need support, I think if Coliep had her "dicky half" lol home more often it would make it easier on her, she knows the tools and what to say, she just doesn't always stick to them, and so do you.

We are way to big Heather, you called me out, you said you wanted to do this diet with me because it would be easier because we have similar numbers, will in the spirit of Jases "you called down the thunder, well now you've got it!"

So let's do this!!!!!
Remember we have a goal by the end of September :)

Coliep the 2 pound thing is nothing, depending on when you weigh, when you drank water, when you went to the restroom, all these things can effect your weight day to day.
I have made a conscious decision not to weigh myself anymore except at the weigh-in, I ended up getting discouraged or false hope day to day and I would prefer to just stay on plan and let it be a surprise.
I know easier said then done, but it's the small steps that can make this easier for all of us.

O.k. I will get down off my podium now, hope it didn't come across too much like that. I don't have all the answers, but I will be here to help support anyone that needs it.

Everyone!!! have a great and positive day.
And remember we are all here to help each other, otherwise what are we even bothering to post here for.

Come on people don't be afraid to post, if you are monitoring this thread, feel free to post on it, no matter what it is.
I monitor it all day, I enjoy keeping up on what everyone is doing, I know some of you are becoming more busy, as will I in a few weeks when school starts back up and I get busy but I will still be here.

Never be afraid to post, comment or ask.

And Coliep thanks for the reminder, Ex-Piglet, how did it go today? I am sure it went well.

Wayward - 6 inches in your waist is amazing, esp in a month! I'd love that =) I have the same issue with measurements. They do mine @ the clinic but I have had 3 different people and bounce around on the measurements, so I feel I cannot even look at that as evidence of losses. I am just basing it on my clothes or, like you mention, certain features becoming more apparent.

I have sick kiddos too. Was up a lot last night, just trying to manage them today. I need to be patient with them but am pretty worn out after having been up so much. I think I will nap with them =)

As for my dick half being home, I think it is easier when he is not actually - he eats more tempting foods! I have no excuses for the error of my ways. Working on my no excuse week, though! Trying to see if there can be bigger losses (after week 1) at this stage in the game!
