Featherweights - How much do we need to lose lose before someone notices?

As featherweights, I know it sometimes takes longer/more weight before people see a noticeable difference in our bodies (i.e. we start getting compliments).

I was 129 a few months after my second kid was born. I started getting comments ("You're really dropping the baby weight!") after I lost about 10 of those pounds. Now, I'd like to lose another 15 or so pounds, but I'm wondering how long it will be until people notice another change in me.

How about you? How much weight do you have to lose for people to notice a difference and comment?

People noticed I'd lost some weight after I lost about 2kg. I find it near to impossible to shift weight these days, but every 2kg someone will make a comment. That is about 5lbs in American money!

15 lbs! And many people still didn't notice. I am fairly tall though.

A few people noticed after 10lbs - i have now lost 17lb which is quite a lot for my 5 2 height - a few more people have noticed - but not many!!

I can see quite a big difference - but then sometimes people don't like to comment on weight!! That's what I tell myself anyway

The first comment I got was at 12 pounds, then not another until 20+lbs.

This is interesting. I actually think that being so small (unfortunately) a little weight goes a long way. I know when I gain even 5 lbs I can tell there's quite a big difference in my body... and I think the same goes the other way around. My hubby starts the good comments when about 5 lbs are gone. Others notice that little too. I'm 5'2" and pretty small framed.

Hmm, I've lost about 15 pounds, and no one notices. My clothes are looser, but other than that even I don't notice yet. About 5 years ago, I went from 180 to 150 and a few people noticed.

Despite the fact that at 180 I'm not that thin, people still generally refer to me as "tall and thin" so apparently 180 doesn't look that different to people than 150. Oh, well.

When you are already normal/thin fewer pounds make a bigger difference. I can easily notice the difference 5 lbs makes on myself now. But I think some ppl comment on weight loss to encourage folks who are overweight. So those folks don't have the same motivation to comment when a featherweight is losing. So, you might get fewer comments in general when you don't have many pounds to lose.

I think the clothes you choose to wear are really important too. So, if you lose weight but just keep wearing the same clothes (now loose), it's hard for ppl to notice. But if you lose just a little weight and buy a more form-fitting wardrobe bc you like you new shape, folks are more likely to notice and comment.

My family seems to notice even a 2 pound difference- in either direction!

Keep in mind, too, that when you're smaller and you lose weight, people may notice, but not say anything, because they may be concerned about the reasons behind your weight loss, and/or may feel that you shouldn't lose any more, but at the same time, don't feel it's their business to say anything.

fivestone Hi! Nice to see a post from you! hope all is well with you :)

Hi Elle! Thanks! Yeah, I got stressed and sick and lost too much weight and now need to build myself back up at least 5-10 pounds. I know that's not ideal, so I felt weird about posting. :o But I'm trying to get back on track, and hopefully I'll be back to where I need to be in no time flat. :)

About 10 lbs, but I think it also depends on how often those people see you, those that see you often probably won't notice so much.

for me, most of people usually commented that "have you gained weight?"
even though I was losing weight.
NO one ever notice that i look smaller but they always think I look bigger.
WTH.
The "you're losing weight" usually come out of sheer polite from few people I don't really remember anyways.
So yeah. >"<

Well, I've lost about 13lbs by now, but people can't see it yet. Mostly because it's gone off my upperbody, which was tiny to begin with. And I managed to wear clothes that hid the extra belly fat and such. So - I think once I start losing it from my legs - people might see. Who knows?! There's a bunch of people that won't see me till I've lost about 20lbs - I am so looking forward to that. Let's hope they notice! LOL.

fivestone oH NO! Hopefully you will get better soon:hug:. I understand about not wanting to post. Its hard to comment about gaining when EVERYONE on 3fc is talking about going in the other direction! Best of luck to you

I've lost 10, and no one seems to have noticed yet, even though I've noticed a ton of changes in myself! I didn't take 'before' pics, but I took pics at 125 and compared them to 120 and was not impressed, haha. Even my fiance hasn't seemed to notice, though he does see that I've gone from not being able to run 5 minutes to running for an hour (he says 'How do you even do that?! I would die!!').

Maybe it's because I was this weight at this time last year...gained a ton of weight really fast during the winter when I wasn't showing any skin, and now I'm back down to this weight for summer...so it doesn't look like I've changed at all!

What's going on? I've lost a total of 32 lbs and no one (except Hubby) has said a word....:?:

Maybe people assume that we are super sensitive about our weight and decide it's better not to bring it up at all. It would be awkward if someone looked like they lost weight but didn't or didn't know that they did so that when you say "OMG have you lost weight?" they say "No..." and it plants that little seed in their brain saying "Do I need to lose weight?"

I dunno, I'm grasping at straws here!

From your stats, sounds like you're pretty thin -- BMI 19.5 or so, which can make some body types appear underweight. So, people could be possibly concerned about your weight and are unsure of what to say. But what they're thinking doesn't really matter, as long as you're healthy and happy with where you're at! :)

In general people rarely seem to comment on anything less than ten pounds, but I have 2 friends who seem to notice and comment on even the slightest weight changes. Also, I think that people may notice but not comment. Coworkers and casual acquaintances probably feel weird commenting on weight loss that is not really, really noticable and significant- I know I would.

I'm really looking forward to that "have you lost weight?" comment. I'm a fair bit off yet, I've only lost ~4lbs, but I think another 4 or so pounds and people might start mentioning it. I hope so, anyway. :)

My male bestfriend said to me, after like 10 lbs lost: "stop shrinking your boobs!" I was like **** you haha.
Ater 15-17 lbs he was "don't lose anymore! You are sexier at this weight than at 120, but don't go lower". :P He like some shape I think, but I don't care as he's my friend haha.

My boyfriend always give me compliments when I "look" skinnier :)
