I'm in again! This particular thread seems to offer a lot of support that kept me motivated so I look forward to another fantastic week!

I had been craving ice cream and I just needed to get it over with...I NEVER crave ice cream At any rate, instead of going to BR as I did about a month ago I went to a yogurt shop and found a non-fat, no sugar added praline ice cream & topped it with non-fat granola -- OK -- and a tsp of heath bar crunch (didn't even make a difference). I only had about a cup...it only cost $2.18 and they weigh it and charge by the oz with the toppings...just to show how little I had.

Just wanted to share because I was able to make somewhat of a healthy decision where I could have been completely irresponsible and I did not feel bad about having ice cream last night :-)

Ended last week at 222.4...let's see what the new week brings :-)

checking in at the end of the day...came in at 1763 calories and 114 carbs...(omg!) but it was entirely from lots of cherries and a big serving of fresh salmon caught yesterday...mmm...i dont feel like i normally would feel after this many carbs (ie. headachy, irritable)...i feel just fine...but i had my once a year cherries and will be back on track better tomorrow

cut up a bunch of rhubarb tonight and had to stop because it was hurting my hands...will do the rest tomorrow...went to the store late tonight and ran into the teenager who calls me "mommy"..he was off work early at the store and killing time...i gave him a ride to our house and he ate dinner and visited for awhile and then went to hang out with his other friends...his own mom is just all messed up, dramatic, upset at his dad constantly, fighting with his dad, (granted dad's not much better, cheating on her etc)...so it's a big mess and they dont pay much attention to the kids so i kind of fill in for a nice, stable "mommy" for him...can't believe he'll be 18 tomorrow...ive been his "second mommy" since he was probably 11 or 12 *sigh* i'm getting OLD!

Quick ck-in before I tackle my day of more canning and freezing!! (When will the madness cease??)

I'll bbl for personals, but real fast:: Stacey--I am not a CVICU RN. I have several friends in that department and my manager is from there, and they try to get me to go practice there, but as of yet, I have declined the generous offer. I love to go there and do ResQ nursing. Actually, that's my fave job of all is ResQ in CVICU. I work Heart Failure, but our unit used to be combined with the Acute MI/Arrythmia floor. So, yea--I LOVE hearts!!

How about this for GREAT NEWS!! I eat lousy for 2 days, found some :dust: under the couch and took my K9s for an hour walk last nite (or did River walk me?) and got up this morning to a NEW LOW.
ok, for all the ones who know I only report on Friday's, I'm making an exception--uhm, again--

IDK how this happened, but today, I will :balloons: CELEBRATE :balloons:

alaskan do you ever sit still? My goodness you are a busy mom/wife/woman :) You have so many "adopted" children I love seeing that. I had a "mom" Jean that my own mother hated because Mom Jean took me to the store, bought food and fed me. My own mom didn't have the time (she liked bars and men too much). I love mom Jean so much and we still keep in touch even after years of separation. All your "children" will remember you and appreciate you and love you forever for your kindness. And as one of those children I thank you for your caring heart. :)

Krystal congrats on pounds down. You're another one that hardly ever sits still. Maybe you're working out more than you think you are because it seems so routine for you...IDK. It seems like everyone's calories are so much lower than mine (granted a lot of you are way smaller than me) and I'm practically stuck in sit position (unless working out or hiking) and I'm still losing so it doesn't strike me odd that you guys are too with your busy lives. Gee anyway, what I guess I'm trying to say it, great job on pounds down !

Diana isn't it weird, I don't feel 40 either. I remember my mom being 40 and thought she must feel old. Yesterday I was doing something (can't remember-yep I'm 40) and all of a sudden I felt this wave of "I'm a mom of a 15 year old. Is that possible? I don't feel that old? I still feel young (in my mind)." It's like my body is getting old but my brain remains in childlike mode. Even my family says that. LOL it's my free spirit and not letting THE MAN cage me.

LGW: Did that yogurt satisfy the craving? Sometimes the no sugar, no fat stuff just leaves me wanting more.

Alaskanlaughter: I read somewhere that cherries are a really good choice. Fresh of course. I think on the glycemic index chart it was one of the best fruit choices. What do you do with rhubarb? Good for you for helping a teen! What a compliment for another kid to call you mommy.

Diana: That cake is leaving you little by little!

K9: Congrats on the new low. Such a nice treat! What are you canning? Thanks for clarifying you aren't in ICU! I was worried!

Mamakat: I love your picture. You look so pretty, fresh and friendly. But personally with my weightloss I feel as though my body is getting younger but I still have an old feeble brain that really doesn't want to work much any longer.

I was up on the scale this morning to 172.6. But, I am okay with it. I really didn't eat poorly or too much so I am not going to belly ache about the gain. It is still a loss from 5 days ago. I made taco meat for dinner and I am thinking the Ortega Taco Seasoning might have had a lot of salt. My husband even said that he likes tacos better when I season the meat myself so I think I'll cut out the unknown by doing it myself again. I just like that robust taco seasoning flavor every now and then. OH Well.

Going to the gym this afternoon for a bit of cardio and 30 minute training session with my trainer and then will return to the gym this PM for spin class.

Morning, all. I tried to undo some of Saturday's damage yesterday and I finished the day at 1100 cal. A usual day for me is 1600. I got some cleaning done in my kitchen yesterday . I really need to clean the upstairs but I can't seem to find the time. The upstairs isn't babyproofed and DD screams when I put her in the crib or playpen. :( ugh I feel like I'm always cleaning but I never get anywhere. Everyone likes to leave their clothes in the living room and dishes in the sink.
.
Today is a gym day for me and I'm going to try and get groceries. I don't think I'll be able to fit that in. My DF works 1st shift today and he has the car. Down a tiny bit to 265.4. Well, have a good day, everyone :)

Just joining this thread today. Yesterday got off to a good start, I did my exercise, and had a salad for lunch. The afternoon was a little iffy - we went to a friend's house, and I ended up drinking one beer, and having some cheese (don't think I had too much, but it left me feeling too full and bloated), and watermelon. I did skip the bread/crackers. We had home made pizza at night, and I had 3-1/2 pieces. I was worried about the amount of cheese I had eaten - but I weighed myself and hadn't gained any weight. I only joined 3FC on Friday.

Hi everyone! :coffee:

I've been gone for a long time, and I've learned the hard way that I have to work on maintenance. I've gained nearly 10 pounds in the last three months...I feel horrible. So I'm going back to what works, and I'm checking in here. I'm sooo discouraged now, but I'm determined, too. I'm going to make this work.

C U all later! ;)

Good morning, all!

LGW: Good to see you again - isn't this thread awesome? I was very impressed with your frozen yogurt choice, I think that's an awesome way to crush the craving while reducing the damage. They don't have many frozen yogurt places where I live now, but I'm moving to Davis in September and I saw a whole bunch of places when I visited. Can't wait to try some!

alaskan: THANK YOU for being such a good person and helping a teenager find a good role model in his life. My parents and I have always had a bad relationship, but whenever I found myself really in a pinch my best friends mother was always there for me. Mama C (C was for Curcio). She died of breast cancer last year (the same as my mom has now), and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss her. I can only hope to do the same for some other child one day!

Diana: Congrats on the .2!

K9: That's great to hear about your new low Krystal! And I had to laugh about you making an exception to your weigh-in day. I do the same thing! My weigh in day is Tuesdays, but I find myself doing it.... every day. Yeah. Scale addict.

Stacygee: Any kind of pre-packaged taco seasoning tends to have a lot of salt in it. I used to use Old El Paso seasoning a lot, but I'm trying to cut down on the salt so I switched to regular scratch seasoning. I'll indulge every once in a while, though, because like you said it does give a very full flavor...

shish: Sounds like you had a much better day yesterday! :cp: I must say that I do empathize with that feeling you get when cleaning... I find myself doing some of the same things every day and it drives me NUTS! Strangely enough, though, it only bothers me when I have to clean my own house. I work as a housekeeper for about 7 clients in my area, and it never bothers me when I'm cleaning for them! (Maybe it has something to do with that whole 'getting paid' thing ;))

JuhiR: :wel3fc: and to this thread! It sounds like you've made a good start for yourself - I think having pizza is always better to do when you've made it yourself, versus going to Pizza Hut or some other chain. At leas you know EXACTLY what's in it, no surprises!

roadbikerchick: :welcome2: to the thread! Sorry to hear that you've been discouraged lately, but if you're looking for encouragement you've definitely come to the right place! Just shake it all off, and start today as a new day.

Weighed in at 230.6 today, a loss of .8 from yesterday. I've been so frustrated lately - I had that one two weeks ago where I hit 228, but after that it rocked back up and I've been stuck in the low 230s ever since. I REALLY WANT TO GET OUT OF THE 230s!!! :tantrum: I think the new calorie plan I'm on is good for now, hopefully it will jump start me OUT of this rut and and back on the downward slope. My goal had been to get to 219 by the end of July but at this rate I think that's unlikely. :( I think as long as I can get off this plateau I will be happy no matter how much I lose.

I'm forgoing the morning walk today in favor of saving my energy for housecleaning. Some friends of mine had to go out of town unexpectedly for a funeral, and they had to take their 4-month-old with them. I'm watching their cat (Willow) until they get back tomorrow, but I think it would be nice if I dusted and vacuumed while they were gone. It's so crazy having a newborn, and I always hated coming home to a messy house.

So, off to clean today, and then I start WEEK 2 of ripped in 30. I'm excited and terrified at the same time, which I think sums up my feelings about this weight-loss journey in general

shish great job on getting back into it. :)

Well it is Monday which means it's ticker time. Last Monday I weighed 253.2 and today I am at 246.6 which is up one pound from yesterday, but I'm ok with that because I'm still down 6lbs...is that right? I stink at math. Anyway I'm doing good.

DH is off to AZ for the week leaving me to the kids all alone. I'm ok with that. I may have jury duty (we'll see when I call Thursday night) I hope not, but am prepared at least hair-wise (back to boring brown :p) I'll have to figure out how to take lunch any suggestions just in case?

I hope you all have a wonderful day and a great and healthy week.

Hi Everyone!!!!!!! :grouphug:

I feel like I have been gone forever! I am still in my battle with 188 - 189. :sumo: My challenges have been sleep and getting enough calories. I have had several lower than usual calorie days and my body DOES NOT LIKE IT!

Had a night of drinking on Friday and got rid of the water weight for a night. LOL This week my self-challenge is to get enough calories every single day and getting a minimum of 7 hours sleep every night.

I'm coming back to basics and making time to do my check ins for more than just a second. I miss you guys and I feel stronger in my weight loss when I am more present here.

With all of my plateau battles, I am very proud to say that I have been on plan as far as my eating. I am not over-doing it with any junk. That makes me very proud!! I am confident that when I get the proper number of calories and sleep, this plateau will be history.

Here's the breakdown for the weekend:

15 188.2 -.2
16 185.6 -2.6
17 186.6 +1.0
18 188.0 +1.4

I have also rethought about my goal weight. 164 means that I have reached the healthy range so my goal is to see that number and then switch my focus from "weight loss" to "toning". I feel that my weight will naturally drop after I reach 164, but I want to change my focus from loss to toning.

The plan for tonight is kielbasa and mac n cheese with carrot circles for my boy for supper. I will be experimenting with some Panko bread crumbs and making some baked tilapia. I think I'm going to stir fry up some sugar snap peas to go with too. I have my gym clothes here at work and I am going to change before I leave and go home and hop right on my treadmill. I need to run to help remember WHY I am here!!!!

Let's rock the end of July!!! ( I can't believe it's almost the end of July! Maxwell starts school next month! Speaking of....SO DO I!!!!!!!)

BBL!!!

good morning! :) the whoosh seems to have stuck around a little bit today, weighed in at 208.6 which is up a little but still broke through that 209 that i sat at FOR.EVER....hope it sticks...little son is still asleep this morning but two of the kids are already here for childcare today...raining hard outside today, with fog down to the bottoms of the mountains...

i make rhubarb pies and rhubarb upside down cake from the rhubarb and am making a big cake today...i'm sharing half of the cake with my SIL who gave me the rhubarb, which leaves enough pieces of cake for us and for the teenager to come have a piece...i told him i would save him a piece for his 18th birthday today...he tries to come across as "gangster" but he's really not that tough...he talks tough and has been in some fights but he's really not that bad...he just adores my younger son and is always on good behavior when he's around...he has ADHD like my older son, which contributed to his dropping out of high school...his parents didnt care and didnt let him have his meds and werent involved in his education so he just kept failing classes, getting into fights and eventually dropped out...i was able to get him set up to get his GED though and he's almost done with that...he got his learner's permit now too and i told him he can use my car to take his license driving test in

Happy Monday everyone!

Weighed in at 195.8 this morning. Not as low as my low, but close enough to make me happy. TOM is rapidly approaching, which doesn't mean as much for me weight wise as it does for other people, but sure does make me emotional and grouchy.

I slept terribly last night and was fortunate that my husband called me at 7:00 am after dropping my son and parents off at the airport. I'd hit snooze so many times that the alarm clock had given up on me! :D But I got to work on time just the same. I felt fine most of the morning, but it's hitting me now, despite all the coffee I consumed this morning.

I need to get to the store. All those veggies I have are great, but I need something to go with them to turn them into meals. Any suggestions for parsley? I have a lot of it. I occasionaly use it in soups, but it's not soup weather. How about beets? I like them OK, but my husband doesn't. Maybe they can be part of my lunches. Suggestions are eagerly welcomed!

Zoodoo, fresh parsley makes me think of chimichurri sauce. I fell in love with it in Costa Rica. Most recipes call for lots of parsley, some cilantro, olive oil, garlic and onions. It is made into a paste/sauce and you use it on top of meats. Yum.
Beets, I don't like them, so I have no idea.
I am a cilantro lover, so when I get extra or it is on sale, I wash and dry it, take it off the stems and then flash freeze it on cookie sheets, then put it into freezer bags to use for later. Maybe you could put up some of your parsley that way too?

So this was a difficult weekend for me. First DH and the kids want pizza for dinner on Sat, which I agreed to and that started it all. I was good and had a platefull of salad first to help fill me up and then had 2 normal sized pc. pizza. Not too bad, but I know I was over on my calories, it was a mental struggle for me to stop at 2 pc, but I did. Then yesterday, made great choices for breakfast and through the party, was ham sandwiches and salads and such. I had 1/2 ham sandwich and about 1/4 cup tuna salad and fresh veggies. Not too bad. Even dinner was okay, 1 pc. bbq chicken, green bean almondine and a smidge of mac-n- cheese. BUT, then DH decides we need to make some drinks and it all went downhill from there. Fresh raspberries, fresh strawberries, smirnoff, barcardi, need I say more? Oh, and lets not forget the bottle of wine we opened too. And of course that led to the muchies and we snacked through a bag of micro popcorn and some pringles. Ugh. I had to text my friend at 7 this morning to tell her I couldn't make it. So not only did I make some awful choices last night, but I didn't even get out to walk this morning. Had some appointments at 11 and 12, so here I am, just eating my breakfast and no exercise in. I feel terrible. It is so hard because DH is in vacation mode, wants to eat and drink and be merry. I know I have made better decisions than I would have in the past, but why do I feel so guilty when I indulge even a little bit? Didn't weigh early this morning, but got on a little while ago and am up 2 pounds. Hoping most of it is water weight, but know I will probably have to work to lose at least 1 pound of what I have already lost about 3 times. Grrr.
Off to work on the garage sale prep in the 90 degree heat, double ugh.

And I'll look into the chimichurri sauce. With those ingredients how could I go wrong?

Absolutely! I'm a baking addict, and now that I don't eat any of the things I typically bake I've been giving them away like crazy. I get so much happiness out of watching other people enjoy the food I make. It's almost as good as eating it myself! ;)

Hello all,

Today I had the following;
breakfast: weetabix, skim milk, 1/2 tsp sugar
lunch: salad including 50gms smoked salmon, lettuce, red peppers, 75gms new potatoes in extra light mayonnaise with onion and chives
dinner: lean steak sandwiches in wholemeal toasted bread, with sweet corn, red peppers and lettuce, 50gms oven chips
dessert: low fat ice-cream, strawberries and raspberries and a sprinkling of cooking chocolate
cup of hot chocolate as a snack made with skim milk.

Calories come to about 1300. Great!

Didn't make it to the gym though - tough old day. Getting exercise right is my next big challenge, but today I'm impressed with myself for doing 4 days straight on track with food.

Oh - I've also started reading a book called
"The Compassionate-Mind Guide to Ending Overeating". I'll let you know how it goes.

As it so happens, I work as a Clinical Psychologist, and compassionate mind approaches are really developing well in the treatment of emotional disorders. It makes a lot of sense to me to apply compassionate approaches to overeating, given the role of shame in maintainence of overeating (certainly for me).

Anyway, I'll update again tomorrow. Cheerio all!

I realized why when we went out of town at the 4th of July. I get the munchies like it's no ones business. DH and I shared a fruity mixed drink at the restaurant. I started eating at dinner and it was crazy! When I tell you I can put away some food, I mean, I can put away some food! I ate everything they brought to me. So it's best for me to avoid alcohol unless I am taking a day off or vacation, etc.

Syzygy Hi and Welcome!

Still Hi! It's good to see you. Great job on getting back to the gym!

Hey ladies & Larry! :D

Quick check in...haven't weighed myself but I've been doing a lot better. Today I'm coming in at 1400 calories, planning on a walk tonight with DH and the pups. I'm going to even attempt a run tomorrow morning before work @ 4am! Wish me luck! ;)

We got all moved in this weekend - everything went smoothly! We are about 95% unpacked. We need to unpack/put together our guest bedroom and that's about it. Not too bad! This weekend we'll be painting...

Anyways, hope you all are doing well! :D

Was able to get in that run after work!!! :yay: :yay: Did a solid 20 min run and some incline walking. I stepped up the incline while I was running today too. I run slow, so I think the new way for me to challenge myself will be to add a bit of an incline to my run/jog. It felt GREAT!!!!

Made the kielbasa/mac n cheese combo for the boy and he  it!! :) I stir-fried some tilapia with garlic, onion, and some Bragg's. I put it on a bed of cold broccoli slaw with a serving of blush wine vinagrette dressing. O........M........G!!!  LOL

Today gets filed in the WIN category!!! :)

It’s been an eventful day!! I dislike eventful days and nites!

I got to the field to pick peas around 0815 and remembered at approx. 0830 that my dad had placed antifreeze baited traps in the same field for raccoons. He has watermelons there too and the coons were pulling the melons, taking a bite, then moving to the next melon. I took River and she was running around—being herself—and she was in that field when I remembered the traps. I immediately rushed her to the vet, b/c I didn’t know if she had ingested any or not—unbeknownst to me that the test took 48 hours to return and initial treatment of ethylene glycol consisted of ETOH intoxication flushed with iv fluids for 3 days. So, basically I had to get her drunk and flush her kidneys for 3 days for the sale price of $2000 USD—UHM NOT!!! She weighs 55 lbs and the vet said since I wasn’t for sure if she had ingested any and she was showing no signs of poisoning, a few licks would probably not be enough to cause Renal Failure, but perhaps some renal impairment! I decided to get a Chem 6 just to check her Renal function and then I’ll follow up on Friday with another to see if in fact she had any damage!\

I was also stopped on my way to the vet b/c I had my emergency flashers on and ran a red light right in front of a cop! When he pulled me over, I immediately rolled my window down and yelled out of my Jeep, “Please hurry up!” He yelled, “What’s the emergency?” I replied, “my dog ingested antifreeze and I’m trying to get her to the vet!” His exact words were, “OH MY GOSH, hurry up, that’s terrible.” Then, proceeded to escort me to the vet!!!

DH said if that had been him, the cop would have pinned him to the ground, slapped cuffs on him, called 3 squadcars for backup, been on the news, and he would have heard:
“Bad Boys Bad Boys whatcha gonna do, watcha gonna do when they come for you!!”

He’s so dramatic!!!

Oh my goodness K9, that is horrible, but seems all is OK? I have been tempted with the antifreeze baited traps myself as I can't catch this darn groundhog who does the same darn thing, but I worry about a dog or cat wandering by, though none do, but dude, yes!!! One bite out of a tomato and then onto the next!

And you know... your husband is probably right. I've never gotten a ticket and neither has my mother in law even though there have been times we should. My husband has gotten them and he's a much more cautious driver than me and I think it's because guy cops give women drivers more slack, especially in things like you are describing.

:bravo: on the woosh! :high: here’s hoping it sticks!!

MamaKat: Ok, since you seem to think I am sooooo busy, how is it that you lose 6 and I lose 0.4???? Are you stealing my lbs lost?? Hmmm now where do I know this from? Oh yes, I remember!! My trainer friend does me the same way. I do all the work and he loses all the weight!!

Jo: So glad you came to my “Invitation Only” party!! Hope you had a swell time! Sorry I couldn’t come to the “real” party you had, but I’m sure I would have really enjoyed myself a little too much. Get up, dust yourself off, and get back OP. You can do it! One choice, one meal at a time!!

SMess: If we lived close by, we could be real friends!! I love your kindred spirit! Excited and terrified! Yep, I can so relate. Excited about being smaller and healthier and being able to wear my clothes again. Terrified of re-injuring my back and failing miserably!

JuhiR & Syzygy: :welcome3: to the Daily Thread!!

Nikki: So glad to see your smiling face!!

Roadbiker: I’m seriously doing a happi dance in my great room just to see your smiling face! So sorry about the 10 lbs and I really hate you feel disgusted by it, but hey, if that’s what it takes for you to check in—well……..

K9 I am told that calorie cycling provides same amount of calories per week, in my case 1500 per day average for the week but 'tricks' your body by constantly changing daily calories. This is supposed to help prevent or break plateaus. I plan on trying it for a month to see if I like it or not.

This site has more information:

k9 - i facebooked you about the rhubarb

darius - JUST found your facebook message...dont know how in the world that got by me :dizzy:

welcome to the new ones and returning ones to the group!!!!

so i had to make a SECOND rhubarb upside down cake today LOL the first one was gone so fast it made my head spin! the kids loved it, i ate some, i packaged some up for SIL and i set aside a piece for the teenager...then DH came home and ate some, the kids had some more, and i saved the last piece for DH after work...and THEN DH pouted because there was only one piece left LOL! so i made another cake...

ended by day so far at 1253 calories, almost all of which was either cherries or cake *sigh* and 148 carbs, way more than i need....but thankfully my once a year cherry treat is almost eaten up and i will NOT eat any more cake...i found myself this afternoon having a VERY hard time putting down the fork and once i realized i was starting to feel out of control, i got kind of mad at myself and just STOPPED and i dont dare go back again for more

DH and son went for a walk...i have the entire house all to myself...i dont even know what to do LOL!

Got my first insult in years. Got to love group/mob mentality. I took my kids to the new Popeye's chicken (no I did not have any). Although I didn't participate in eating I did go up and get the food and serve it to them at their table. It was on the trip back that a group of 4 young men (17-22 I'm guessing) snickered then one said "look at that big fat a**." It's not the comment that bugs me, because I know it's big and fat (anyone who can see me knows) it's the smugness that they only feel when in a group. If they were alone they'd never have the gall to say something. I just kept walking shrugging it off so as not to embarrass my children.
I stopped at the store and bought me dinner (rotisserie chicken and some yummy cheeses) and now I'm settling down for bed.
I hope you all have a good night. :)

I was out taking a walk a couple months ago and heard "You're fat!" My kid wasn't with me, and I went back to say something. I couldn't find them though. I thought they were sitting in a car I passed but it must have been out a window. I knew they were just stupid kids, but it was still upsetting.

Mornin'!

Weigh-in 195.4, back to the low. :)

After all my talk about veggies yesterday, my husband ended up bringing home leftover pizza. :D Oh well. Actually, as pizza goes, it's pretty healthy. Extremely thin crust. They're small. One was a white pizza with tons of spinach and goat cheese (it was actually a little disappointing). The other is the primavera with no cheese had piled about 2" tall with tomato, mushroom, eggplant, broccoli, garlic, grated carrot. Ooh, that one is good. :D

And speaking of healthy pizza, I found out from my neighbor that our grocery store carries a ww pizza dough and a multigrain pizza dough. I'll have to try it! She prefers the multigrain, and my son has had it at her house and liked it. Score!

I once again flopped on riding my bike in to work. I thought I might pull it off this morning, but it just didn't happen. I'll have to get out and do something after work. Yesterday I started scrubbing down the porch in preparation for painting it. Better than sitting on the couch, but I can do better.

Ooh, I'm intrigued by this cilantro technique! Is it still as good as fresh? I'm a cilantro lover as well.

And I'll look into the chimichurri sauce. With those ingredients how could I go wrong?

I would say the frozen cilantro is not quite as good as fresh, but waaaaay better than dried. I am always needing it in or on something and don't always have it in the house fresh, so this works well for me to get my fix. I seem to be the only one in my family that likes it that well. They tolerate it when I cook with it, but I could bathe in the stuff
Yes, chimichurri is a must try. Good this time of year on some grilled meats! Just watch the calories in the oil.

Well, here comes the gain for ovulation. Up 1.8 pounds today. I ate 1500 calories yesterday so I KNOW it's not from me overeating. I didn't get to workout yesterday because my older son is sick and my mother in law was expecting her guest to arrive about the time I would have a class and we had pizza for supper. I had two pieces (thin crust) and ate salad otherwise. It's totally water weight for ovulation. Now I REALY hope I ovulate today so that so that I don't go over 200 pounds tomorrow! That would make me laugh, but also make me cry!

So, my water gain for this month was 1-1.5 pounds until today. Today (like I knew would happen), I gained about 2 lbs, so when the whoosh starts 3.5 pounds of it is the 'known' water weight I'm carrying around. We'll see how much more I lose than that of the accumulating water weight that is unknown - replacing fat.

Taking the bodypump class at 10:45 am and I switched the gym to go the one my son likes best for KidSpace. My older son seems to be feeling better today, so that's good. We leave for vacation in Friday!

ETA: Finally went to the bathroom after 4 days (very typical for me) and it's now better by one pounds giving me a bit more buffer if tomorrow I go higher! LOL

I'm thinking I don't have a "nut" allergy. I started having a reaction on Sunday afternoon. I don't recall having anything with nuts in it. It seems to be clearing up now. Here is a TMI alert  When I have a reaction, I don't use the bathroom. :o I didn't go yesterday or this morning. This is very unusual for me. I tend to be a very "regular" person. Anyways, I am going to try to set aside some time today to have the lab work done that the allergist wanted me to have. Since I can't figure it out, maybe the Dr can.

Shishkeberry: If you don’t go upstairs then pretend it isn’t there!

LGW: I’ve always heard that weird cravings mean that your body needs something in that food. Maybe you didn’t dairy or something and that is why the ice cream?

JuhR: welcome! The pizza gets me every time!

Roadbikerchick: glad you are back. You can lose the 10lbs. The summer seems so busy it is very hard to stick to all the well laid plans!

Smess: Is ripped in 30 a video exercise? Sorry about your plateau I know they are frustrating. You can get past it. Just be consistent.

Mamakat: I get called standoffish too. It is a funny word. The truth for me is that I am rather shy and at times feel awkward at getting to know people. When I really feel comfortable with someone I am very outgoing with them. But in groups or with new people I clam up and don’t know what to say. 6 POUNDS in a WEEK! WOWWZER GIRL. I need you as my muse! Does your husband travel a lot. Mine is gone most weeks. I’m used to it.

Vixsin: Don’t know how long you have been gone- but your pic looks great!

Alaskanlaughter: YAH for whooshes that stick!

ZooDoo: TOM makes me HUNGRY! Grouchy would be welcome if you would take away the hunger! I would dice parsely into a salad… never done a thing with a beet.

Jo: MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Costa Rica! We ALL seem to have trouble with PIZZA. We need an anti-pizza campaign.

Berry: Holding Steady id a good thing!!

stacey DH travels a lot but not all the time. He is one of 3 partners and the only one licensed as an engineer so most of his clients want him "on site" a lot. Funny thing is we moved from AZ for a job here then DH and pals started their own company and now he has tons of work in AZ (that's where he is now). His dad's place is an unofficial/official hub. It's just a house but he gets a tax break because DH and partners stay there a lot and plans and things get sent there. Now DH wants to move back and open an official hub.

I wanted to let you guys know the insult wasn't what bothered me, I've heard all that before. What bothers me is that they are only brave when they are with friends. If they were alone they would never have the guts to say it. Had my children not been there those boys would have been covered with food or drink so that they would learn their lesson as far as manners. Also I believe every woman in that restaurant had big butts. It was Popeye's afterall, so no one was caring about what they ate...but me! As I said I did not eat the food! I do my best not to embarrass my kids in public or put them in danger otherwise I might have been more aggressive. :D

Diana I have Celiac's and let me just say when go out or eat something I have to look it up on my phone to make sure it's safe and even then if it's prepared for us it's hard to say. I've asked at several restaurants and the waitresses will look at me as though they've never heard the word gluten in their lives. Allergies can kill a person and I think people in food industries should take it more serious, but until they do we have to ask A LOT of questions. I tried looking stuff up for Popeye's, they have a "naked" chicken, but their website doesn't say whats in it. I found a forum written in 2005 talking about that very thing and one person said don't call the information because they're no help. That's 2005, by now that info should be made public. Lots and lots of hidden stuff. And manufacturers have lots of cross contamination. I hope you find out soon. :)

mamakat Thank you for the support. I hope I can figure it out or at least the Dr. can. I was secretly thinking, if it's peanut butter, it will make it easier for me to try to avoid it. I know if I find out that I am allergic to something I will try to avoid it. I will make a mental note that it's toxic to my health. Hopefully that will take care of those cravings. ;) Unless, it ends up making me want it even more. :lol3:

Down a pound to 187.0. I'll take it. I feel sore from yesterday's exercise. Healthy Pizza Night with my friends tonight! I am bringing the pizza this time!!!! :yay: Yummy!

Going to try for 30 minutes of Yoga with Bob tonight. I could really use the stretching.

I've got a lot to do here at work. I'll be back at lunch time for personals!! :grouphug:

have a great morning!!!!!

I looked at the Red Lobster website about allergy info. It lists "tree nuts" for the coconut shrimp. I take it "tree nut" is coconut. Here's something funny, I had the bakery add some toasted coconut to my cake on Saturday. My reactions don't take place immediately. It will take place later in the day or the next. I think that's why it's been so difficult to figure this thing out. Also, I used to drink that pina colada "juice" that I linked about the mixed drink the other day. Also, sometimes I will have those "naked juices" that contain coconut water. Also, when I go to Jason's on Sundays, I eat some of their nut mix, which contains walnuts and almonds. I didn't eat it the last time, and I don't think I had a reaction. The mixed nuts from the other week contained almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. Interesting stuff!

ETA: ACK! I just realized that I use a little coconut oil in the pan when I cook my omelet. ACK! ACK! ACK!

Hello everyone!

I just typed up a post, but it disappeared, so I'm doing it again.

It's hot a blazes here, but I finished an early morning exercise thing before I sat down to work, so I'm feeling good! It's not as much as some of you on this forum are doing, but I'm trying to get a little in each day, so that I can build a habit.

Yesterday was a day of discipline after the pizza indulgence of the day before:
egg white omlete breakfast
salad for lunch with a side of tofu in tomato sauce
1 part skim cheese stick for snack
Grilled veggies & tofu, with a serving of polenta for dinner.

My sweet husband grilled all evening, and now I have some good veggies for the rest of the week. I'm a vegetarian, so I threw some tofu onto the grill as well.

No change on the scales, but I've gotta believe that exercising every day, and eating a controlled diet are gonna make a difference soon. And I also know that if I'm discouraged, all the courageous people on this forum are going to give me a boost.

mamakat, I'm so impressed by how you've managed to move past the thoughtless words of those people.

Have a wonderful day eveyone!

Hello, I'm new to the boards too! I'd have posted yesterday, but I'm still finding my way around, and I just found this thread today. *waves at everyone*

Monday is my rest day in my training program, and I might have overdone it on the calories. I had to be out of the house most of the day getting some cavities filled, so instead of my "small meals every two hours" thing I had a block of 6 hours where I couldn't eat a thing due to rubbermouth. Once I got the food out--yikes! I probably ate six to eight ham and cheese roll ups for dinner, along with an apple and a glass of V8. Felt sick about a half our after. Luckily, scale seems to have forgiven me--I'm about the same today as yesterday, heh!

Monday was the third week of my exercise regimen, which is one of those "learn to run two miles" deals. I don't think it's tuned for obese people, but I'm trying. Says I'm supposed to keep the running on an effort scale of 3-4 (out of 10) but by the end of my jog (it's more like a stagger at this point, haha) I'm definitely working at a 9-10 level.

Today I weighed in at 285. I am not keeping track of my decimal points, yet. Once I get into Onderland, as I have heard it called here, I'll start worrying about tenths of pounds. At any rate, that's one pound down from starting weight--but I don't trust gains or losses under 10lbs since I'm one of those chicas that fluctuates 5 lbs a day in water weight.

When I started my workouts two weeks ago, I spiked up to 195 for a couple days, even! Yikes! Just building those calf muscles, I guess!

So far today I've had a yogurt with a scoop of protein powder--about 200cal
A bowl of Kashi with milk--about 200cal
and turkey-tomato-cheese rollups--about 260 cal

I really don't know what number of calories I should be aiming for--at 6'1", I am always hunger-crazed if I try and go below 1900 a day. Anyone know of a good calculator for such things?

Anyhow, I perhaps rambled too much, thanks for reading. : ) Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Mojojuju :welcome: I like MyFitnessPal. It says I'm supposed to eat 1740 calories in order to lose a pound a week. I'm a shorty, but I pack a punch  I have been doing low carbs for one week now and I've lost 6lbs since starting. I always come under calories. As I've said in the past I struggle with feeding myself (mental issues :D) so I tend not to make myself a lot of food. The low carb dieting is preparing a lot of food so I'm learning as I go :)

Last week I went shopping for the first time in 3 years (again anxiety/bipolar) and I really need to go today because we are out of food. I plan to make a list soon...no, I really do I promise!

I started out at 283 and am so close to the 40lbs mark, so excited! And JuhiR I started with no exercise and built up. I can do 12 miles on recumbant bike now. that's a walk in the park for some, but I have limitations and I'm proud of myself with what I can do.

Oh before I go I was down some more but forgot the numbers. It's 245.8 so whatever it was I was before I'm down now. I better go before I forget I was supposed to GO hahahaha

Grrrrr!!!! I needed to be to class 10 minutes early for bodypump and everything was working against me this morning. I was ONE MINUTE late (meaning 9 minutes early for class instead of 10 minutes) and my spot was given away. Try explaining why we can't go to the gym to an excited 6 year old? Fortunately, I was able to tell him I would take a class this evening at the same gym to make up for it. I HATE that gym's setup for Zumba (too small and a long, narrow room so it's hard to see the instructor), but I feel bad letting the little guy down this morning. So, tonight I'll bounce around instead. Which totally messes with what I was going to make for dinner. Hmmm... what will plan B be?

Thanks, Mamakat! <3 I'm going to check that out now!

Berryblondeboys: Some ideas for fast dinins--Fish tacos (or salads if you don't eat carbs!) just grab some pre-seasoned fish from the grocery store, fry it up with a little chopped Napa cabbage , scallions and avacados...presto!

Or chicken spinach soup--12c broth, 1 chopped onion, 3 chicken breasts (I bake mine in the toaster oven with a little garlic salt and then just fork-shred the meat), 1T of thyme, terragon, and onion powder, and a box of frozen spinach. Add 1/4c of barley or rice if you choose. Nummy, and ready in about 30-40 mins!

we seemed to have fixed our furnace with a good old thump to the side of it :D the blower wasnt turning off this weekend...so DH got in there, banged on the side of it, and now it is working again...he said it knocked the dust off the sensors or something...but hey, up in alaska we can fix practically anything with duct tape and a good whack! :D:D

Hey all, today I was at 1300 calories. This now makes 5 days of sensible eating. Haven't felt hungry at all, eat when I want to, but focus on making positive healthy choices. The odd treat of low fat ice-cream with berries and a sprinkling of drinking chocolate.

I am very lucky in having a husband who likes to cook. Tonight he made chicken breasts in cacciatore-type sauce. I had a salad with it. All great.

The scales aren't particularly moving the last few days but I'm not too worried. I know that if I keep eating like this, I will lose weight. It's just a matter of time and keeping on with what I'm doing. Wish me luck.

Good Evening All,
Well the manic episode has officially ended, I'm zonked. I don't want to wake up, I don't want to move/exercise and I don't want to eat. That being said my son needed a ride to a friend's and we needed some food. I slowly got dressed all the while poor kid apologized and said he could walk (well over a mile). I went shopping for only tonight and tomorrow (just in case this does not pass) and everything went wrong in checking out. I gotta say though, being this drained and in total depressed icky mood, I did not turn to bad food. I stopped in the Atkin's section and got some shakes. I came home did the dishes, had a shake and bar and am now going back to bed.
I didn't exercise but as of this moment I'm missing close to 1000 calories so exercise probably isn't a good idea anyway. I just can't do anymore.

alaskan I wish I lived near you so bad right now. I want some of that cake and I would have loved that fish too.

syzygy keep doing the right thing and the weight will start showing for sure :) Don't forget about inches, I got a shock when I did mine yesterday. 3 1/2 inches lost in a month...I don't see it :D

Diana glad the testing is over that's half the battle right? What happens if they do find something, will you be able to take something for it or avoid like the rest of us :p Cake....someone give me cake :(

Mojojuju did you look into it? I love it. There are others too, I just don't know their names. I found that one on my phone first then computer. So cool how technology has come so far. I like that I can go out and not have to remember everything, I can just type it in. If I'd have to remember then I...what was I saying :p

berry I love how you're making a sacrifice for your son and yet getting a benefit out it even if it's not exactly what you wanted. What a good mommy :)

shish you are doing wonderfully, great job!

Alrighty everyone, I'm going night night now, at 7 o' clock how weird. I hope you all have a wonderful night. I hope to see you tomorrow with good news of exercising. The good thing is I'm too tired to go get cake so this too shall pass.
Have a happy and healthy night :)

Mamakat, I did find it, and used it! Turns out, I can eat WAY WAY WAY more calories than I thought. I was trying to do about 1800, and it put me at 2280 per day for rapid weight loss. Oh my!

I tried their exercise calorie burn calculator, and it seems to think I'm burning between 800-1000 calories with my workouts, so I guess that explains the high numbers! That, and my massive frame. I really AM big boned, lol!

I have much more of a plan today than I had yesterday, thanks to you!

Today I had Senior fit fare egg white omelet at Denny's with coffee and I had a 6 inch turkey sub with tuna mac salad tonight for dinner with coffee.

I will need to be especially careful tomorrow because my family is getting together for my birthday and they taking me out and into enemy territory for a dieter. We will be going to a nice Italian restaurant. Keep me in your prayers!! :D

Quick post, since I am hoping to get into bed early tonight.

Mamakat I hope you feel better tomorrow. If the tests show I am allergic to something, I will have to avoid that food. I took allergy shots (respiratory) when I was younger. That took care of those allergies, so far. This food allergy showed up last Summer.

Hi all,

I've never posted in this thread before but would like to start checking in here (if you'll have me!) :)

I'm a few days into buckling back down into weight loss... Nose to the grindstone. I've been wishy-washy about it all year and am ready to end the year on a high note!

The first few days are always the hardest with regards to cravings. My fiance has to stand duty tonight (he's in the Navy) so he's not back until tomorrow evening... I am totally a lonely/bored eater so tonight was a big struggle without him here. However I'm happy to say I made it through! It took about 4 hours of constant self-talk - nearly making really awful decisions (like, whole pizza decisions) - but I feel completely over it now. Woot! :)

Gotta take it one day at a time...

Hey all,

It was a H:cool:T day today, nearly 100 degrees with humidity (and 91 without)! I went to do my walk this morning but I could only get in 20 minutes instead of 30. I was starting to get a headache from the heat and figured I should quit while I was ahead. That was good planning, on my part - I still felt a little crummy for the rest of the day. I ended up with 1376 in calories for the day, and 400 calories burned in exercise (I just finished day 2 week 2 of ripped in 30). Tomorrow is my day off exercise-wise, I have no idea how it ended up being Wednesday but it works for me. ;)

abluvion: :welcome3: to the thread! We'd love to have you join us. It sounds like you're off to a great start - I sympathize with your struggle of breaking bad habits. Over the years I've become accustomed to buying something to eat/drink whenever I'm in the car. Lately I've been talking to myself the entire time I drive somewhere, going over the reasons why I can't stop somewhere. It's tough, but it does get easier! Just keep up the good work :D

berry: Oy vey! I'm glad you were at least able to get SOME exercise in - I hope your step class tomorrow is awesome enough to make up for it!

Diana: I hope your allergy tests come back with some answers. It's definitely a bummer having a food allergy, but knowing is so much better than not knowing!

Larry: In case I can't make it to the boards tomorrow, :balloons::bday2you::balloons:

Mojojuju: I had the same reaction when I did my calorie count - I didn't realize how much I burned while exercising, so seeing my daily calorie needs was like, WHOA! Glad to hear you're getting your game plan together.

mamakat: Sorry to hear that you're feeling low today. I really admire you for getting out and taking care of errands despite how crummy you were feeling. I hope you have a great night and feel better in the morning!

shish: :bravo: on the drop back down!

K9: How's the puppy?? I've had way too many scares with things like that, mostly with chocolate. I remember once when I was little, one of our yellow lab-mixes got into my halloween candy and ate roughly two POUNDS of chocolate. We were all SO stressed out and worried. It ended up that he was completely unaffected by it, which I still don't understand. But I'm hoping it turns out well for you, too...

JuhiR: mmmmmmmmmm grilled veggies! I love grilled red peppers, onion, green squash, and mushroom - you can't beat it.

vixsin: :cp: Congrats on the pound!

stacygee: Ripped in 30 is a Jillian Michaels dvd. It's royally whooping my behind, but it's just the kind of no-nonsense motivation that works best for me. :drill: 3 circuits consist of 3 minutes of strength, 2 of cardio, and one of abs. It's rough, but after finishing one of those workouts without dying, I really do feel like I've accomplished something big. I highly recommend it!

zoodoo: My mouth was watering reading about that spinach and goats cheese pizza - I make a homemade version of that, with garlic butter and caramelized red onion. I haven't made it in a while (soooo fatty), but reading your post makes me want to whip out the frying pan.... :frypan: .....but then again maybe not! :D

mlgibson: Glad to hear you had a good day!

Hugs to anyone I missed, and keep up the good work! We're doing great!

Oh, and my older son is still sick. My MIL checked his throat tonight and tonight there is puss, so she is putting him on an antibiotic. Now that is when it's nice to have a doctor in the family. She has some on hand (always) for adults, so need to make another doctor appointment or a trip to the pharmacy. Hope he's feeling better before we leave for our trip this Friday!

so some good and some bad today....was a nice quiet day at home with the 5 kids, not too much bickering and no one got injured LOL except for my son who crashed off his bike and bonked his leg

still came in too high on calories and carbs so tomorrow please send me lots of :dust: i did not eat cherries, i did not pig out on anything else but i DID have more cake than i should have...luckily it will be gone by tonight and it wont be me eating any more of it...this is exactly WHY i dont bring these things into the house very often...i used to bake constantly and gained weight from it...ugh

we went out for dinner tonight and i had an awesome salad so i was proud of that choice...ended the day at 1706 calories and 125 carbs, almost entirely from extra cake *sigh* i'm going out for a couple-mile bike ride in a bit before it gets too dark and the bears start wandering

gotta get back to the grind tomorrow in terms of calories and carbs...been a little lax and i KNOW i sabotage myself so i cant let the number on the scale set me off

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to the site and am coming to the end of my very first day on my new weight loss plan. I just wanted to introduce myself and see if I can start building a support network. This seems to be a good place to start! I'm 28 and currently weigh 230 lbs. My goal is to lose 80 lbs or 5 pant sizes, but I haven't set a specific deadline or anything. I'm trying a low-fat eating plan with the help of Alli supplements and regular exercise. Does anyone have any wisdom to share about Alli? I'm excited to get to know you all and looking forward to finally making a weight loss plan work for me!

Hmm, Good Morning? :dunno: Guess who woke up at 3 AM?

TTOM still hasn't started, but I will get insomnia around TTOM time. The last time TTOM was early, so I guess this time it will be late.

I knew last weekend when I had that gain that there had to be something else going on beside me eating a few hundred extra calories for my Birthday. Crazy food allergies! I will blow up 2-3 pounds every time I have a significant reaction. I never know if I am having a reaction until I am well into it. Initially I will be suspicious of a sodium gain. Oh well.

Here's an equation for you:

allergic reaction + no bathroom time since Sunday + insomnia (waking up 3 hours early) + pending TTOM = a bad weigh in :lol3:

Weigh In: 146.6
Up: .6

Larry Another :bday2you: Enjoy your day!

Berry Great job on getting that weight workout in? I hope you can make your gym class this morning. Sorry to hear that your DS is still sick. I hope everything improves soon.

Now, what was really going on with me yest?? I started the day off fine (eating-wise). Went to my parent’s farm. We picked five 5 gallon buckets of peas, shelled eleven 5 gallon buckets (they have a pea sheller). Ate lunch there, came home—exhausted, and had the most severe cravings! I took a nap, woke up, the cravings were gone. I took a friend some peas and avoided wine with her, but stopped for my own on the way home, then made the MOST UNWISE choice since the pizza binge about a month ago!

Tuesday’s Menu
Cottage Cheese, pineapple 107
Beef Pot Roast (ewwe), Peas, Greek Yogurt 600ish
Tortilla Chips w/Cheese Dip :nono: (if DH brings this back in our house, I may get arrested!), So Delicious Fudge Mini 440
3 Tacos, 8 oz White Zin 789 :nono:
Total: 1936 :yikes:

Water: 72oz
No formal exercise ( I was too tired from lack of sleep and picking peas)
OK, that is sounding so “excusey” right now!
I suppose the real reason is I chose to drop off peas to my friend, Ashli and catch up with her instead of going to run after I woke up from my nap.

I despise fast food! I sure regret having made the poor decision to eat it!
Push On Some More!!

She has been out at my parents farm running around in tall grass and such and now has this green goo (discharge) coming from her right eye.
OK, I realize I’m the nurse here, but anyone know if I can buy anything OTC for this?? I suspect an allergy.
Thank you all for being concerned about her

K9 I'm glad to hear that all is well with River. I wonder if she has an eye infection or if it's plain environmental allergies. I know if it's an eye infection they have RX drops for that. If it's plain allergies, they can take OTC or RX antihistamines for that. If you do OTC, you will want to confirm everything with the Vet and verify dosage. Magnum has had a lot of food/environmental allergies since we got him. The best thing that we ever gave him is Zyrtec. He takes 1/2 tablet AM, 1/2 table PM. One tablet once a day didn't work for him, for some reason.

This is a new thing for her and it's just been since we started going to the field, so I am thinking environmental. I gave her 1/2 Benadryl last night before bed, but that didn't seem to help. I think I'll go to Petco and see if they have a K9 eye drop--gracious! I am leaving for holiday :beach: Friday and she is staying with my MIL, I do not want to be worried about her the whole time I'm gone. She was a perfect pet before Monday and BOOM--all of a sudden it's one thing after another!! :tantrum:

Thanks everyone for the welcome :) The scale rewarded me this morning for my strength yesterday - down another lb. Woo! A couple more til I get to my "danger weight" - the weight at which I mentally freak out and eat myself back to safety. :/

Larry Happy birthday!

SMess This heat is incredible isn't it? Ugh. I don't have a/c in my car and it is certainly discouraging me from making the trip out to the gym...

Shishkeberry Oof, two weeks! You poor thing. Hopefully this one won't be nearly so bad!

Alaskan Heh, it made me laugh that you have to worry about the stray bears... Living in the middle of concrete that is such a foreign concern :p How was your bike ride?

K9 That usually happens to me if I don't eat enough early in the day but it doesn't look like you had that problem! Hmm. These old habits sure are hard to kick eh? I hope you find a solution for your pup... Maybe he's having an allergy bad enough that one benadryl isn't enough?

Mornin'!

Happy Birthday Larry!!!

New low this morning! 195.0! If only these lows came a little more frequently!

I took a 40 minute walk last night, 2.34 miles. Along the way I heard what I think must have been a peacock. Whatever it was was LOUD. That was a bit of a surprise.

Neighbor brought more produce yesterday, mostly lettuce and a couple zucchini. Nice to be so well taken care of. I guess salads are the menu for a while longer.

Every year I grow a little garden, and it seems like every year some calamity befalls it. True to form, a groundhog found my cauliflower and it's totalled. I was hoping it had left the neighborhood since I hadn't seen it in a while. Everything else is doing OK, but you never know what will hit. I think I'm just not a very good gardener.

Good Morning, all! :D

Zoo--I love fresh produce. You're so lucky!

abluvion--Congrats on being another pound down. Woohoo! :carrot:

Diana--That must be so frustrating to have the allergy AND sodium issues affect your weight. You're such a trooper! How's Magnum today?

K9Owner--Aww, poor pup! I hope she finds some relief soon.

Stardust--Welcome! :)

shishkeberry--Oh, that's just not fair! I'm  for you!

Berry--I hope your ds feels better soon. And how wonderful to have a doctor in the family!

alaskan--Sending you will power dust!! :dust:

Down another pound and so close to my goal! I'm not sure where I'm going to go after that. I know that I do want to lose more weight...I just feel that 175 sounds a bit heavy. I took a picture last night while trying on a dress and I'm finally getting to where I'm ok with how I look. Though, without clothing...there are more than a few trouble areas. I don't know. Diana? Any advice on finding that perfect number?

Wow, Shells- you look SO slender to me! You look GREAT! I struggle with finding the perfect number, too. Some trouble spots just aren't going anywhere no matter what (without surgical intervention). Try to feel around. Is the trouble spot just skin or do you feel fat on them?

Welcome to the thread abluvion and stardust! And happy birthday Larry!
.
And TTOM can kiss my butt because I'm down to 262 this morning! I'm always afraid that it's going to make me gain since it does for so many of you. But with my limited experience of losing weight and TTOM I seem to stall a bit in between. But I can't really be sure. This is only my second one since 2009 and the last one was crazy.

Good morning everyone! :coffee:

Didn’t check in yesterday or Monday evening – it’s amazing how busy holidays can be!!

MamaKat: Down 6 pounds!! You rock, girl!!! :woohoo: Glad to hear you were able to get out last night. It takes a lot of effort, but it’s worth it. Baby steps, girl. ;)

Vixsin: Since I last checked in a couple of months ago, you’ve posted your picture. You look so slim!! Keep it up!! :carrot: :carrot:

Alaskanlaughter: Hi! That teenager is lucky to have you in his life. Congrats on getting through 209. And keep in mind that 1700 calories is still less than your body requires…you’re still in the range for losing weight. Think of it as a smaller success rather than a failure.

Zoodoo: About using beets – I like cooking them in water with ½ cup red wine vinegar. Once they’re tender, I let them cool in the water. They get lightly pickled that way. Then I slice them up and use them in salads. Enjoy! You’re looking fantastic, by the way. Congratulations on getting back to your low. :carrot: :carrot:

Berry: hope your boy gets better really soon! Good for you on the workout – those rubber arms are getting themselves ready to display some bee-yoo-ti-full biceps! Looking forward to your whoosh with you. I’ve been menopausal for almost 2 years, and it’s pretty nice not having the ups and downs weight-wise. ;)

JuHir: Just keep it up. We’re under the same heat wave here, and the heat can make you retain water. Oh, and about the posts…I type them up in a word doc, then copy and paste…saves the aggravation of losing it all.

Diana3271: I’m with you about the drinking. After one drink, it’s sooo easy for me to justify more eating, and then I’m off. For me it’s best to stay away from it. So those allergies are still catching you, huh? Hope you get it worked out soon.

LindseyLou: Glad to hear that your move went so well. It sounds like you got a lot accomplished. :cb::cb:

Larry: I hardly recognized you after a few weeks. You’re the still the weight loss powerhouse I remember. :carrot: :carrot: :happybirthday: And here’s some :willpowerdust: for you.

K9: Glad to hear that River is okay. And don’t beat yourself up about yesterday. Shake yourself off and get back on track. Just think…the amount you ate yesterday probably won’t even result in a true gain for you…it’s probably within your maintenance range of calories. :cheer:

Mojojuju and Stardust620: :welcome: and keep up the good work.

Shishkeberry: Congratulations on the low :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: It can take a while for the hormones to get back up to speed. Hang in there!

Abluvion: :welcome: Glad you’re here. This thread is fantastic for motivation…and I guess you’ve learned that with the pound loss now!! ;)

Shell: you’re looking fantastic! :woohoo: Based on the picture I’d say you’re fine where you are. How do you feel? The “right” weight is such an individual thing, and it depends so much on what your goals are.

Well, I’m back on track. Ate properly yesterday, and did a 50 minute, extremely hard bike ride. Scale is down 2.6 pounds since Monday. :woohoo: These early big losses are sooo encouraging ;)
My plan today is to eat about 2000 calories (yes, I know that’s a lot, but I lose weight on that amount) and do about one hour gentle cycling as I run my errands today.
Have a great, OP day, everyone! BBL

Shellsbrood I don't know what to tell you. You look fine, but if it doesn't feel right, that's what might be lacking. Are you exercising regularly? Maybe toning is what you really need to help with trouble areas? And of course, after babies and life, we all have trouble areas, so don't shoot for perfection as that aint happenin' for most all of us!

Zoodoo Yay on the new low!:carrot: You are doing it! And I'm with Diana3271, if the critters want to eat your garden, it must be worth eating! But I feel your pain. I've been battling a resident groundhog too. He's winning despite my many efforts to thwart him/her.

AbluvianHi and welcome! And congrats on losing that pound!

k9owner Poor doggie! :( But better eye trouble than antifreeze trouble I suppose. Hopefully you can figure out how to make him feel more comfortable. And I feel your pain on the food last night. I have pretty good control on most things, but I know there are some trigger foods I just can't have near me. Good thing my husband doesn't ever cook or shop for food and even if he did, he's a health nut.

Diana3271 Hope you were able to get back to sleep! 3 am is way too early! I also hope you get answers with the labs. What do they look for in the labs that they don't see/find in the scratch tests? I sure hope they find something because you know there is something! SO frustrating!

stardust620 Welcome  and good luck! I don't know anything about that plan, sorry!

shishkeberry Sorry about the surprise TTOM. Your body is still figuring itself all out hormone-wise. I hope they straighten out soon for you!

Alaskanlaughter (I just love tying that out - such a great user name) With the cake gone, I'm hoping the temptation is gone for you too. Rhubarb is one of my all time favorites. I just planted some in my garden and 1 of the 3 took (so far at least). I have had very few sweets since starting, but a slice of rhubarb pie with homemade ice cream was one of them!

SMess It's really hard to exercise when it's hot outside - plain and simple. Our bodies just don't like it and we should listen to them! Indoors and in AC - OK. And I don't remember if I have had a chance to post to you yet about your mom. I'm really sorry. That has to be incredibly difficult to have to stand by and watch. You're a really good daughter to be there for her like you are.

MLgibson Good just on sticking to a plan, but don't beat yourself up if you don't get to 10 pounds lost. The less you have to lose, the harder it is to lose it fast.

LarryH :bday2you: And good luck with the Italian restaurant (and remember, one meal of celebration is not the end of the world either)

JuhiR Yes it is darn hot in the midwest right now - so take it easy and be smart about it. And how sweet of your husband to grill up all those veggies for you! LOVE grilled veggies!

Mojojuju Welcome and hi! You have to do what works for you, but please use caution with trying to run at your weight. If it says to do it at a level of 3-4, then you should do something at a level of 3-4. An injury at this point could lay you up for months and months. of course, if running is all you love or want to do, fine, great... but there are so many other things that work. I started this journey at 255 and I started with doing a Wii game (Walk it Out). I started with walking in place on the board, then walking in place on the floor, then walking using an aerobic step. I then moved on to aerobic and strength videos and now I'm at a gym doing classes with the much fitter people, just keeping it low impact still to protect my knees. As long as my heart rate is going to where it should be, I keep the effort as low impact as possible so that I can keep my knees healthy.

mamakat I'm sorry you were feeling low yesterday. I feel that way oftentimes after a trip or after a big project or after guests visit. But you should be proud of yourself for not eating and for going shopping!

syzygy Hi and welcome! Your husband cooks for you? And will make it healthy for you too? He's a keeper! I can hardly imagine my husband cooking. He 'can' cook for sustenance, but I don't enjoy that food. So he enjoys my food!

Lindseylou Hope you are loving your new house! I can hardly imagine being mostly unpacked in a couple days - means we have too much stuff!

Sum38 You must be loving that midwest heat!!!

Still So how is being a full time mom treating you?

Diana in LA Thinking about you and hoping all is OK.

____________

Well, I am supposed to be going to a step class in 40 minutes. Takes 20 minutes to get there. My sons are still sleeping. Our guest and my MIL is still sleeping. Man, I don't think I can make the class then! What is this conspiracy??? I just had to cancel it. There is a zumba class tonight (not likely to make it as I have a roast to cook) and so, I guess I'll be working out down in the basement. Funny how that was my preferred workout until a month ago and now I hate it! LOL Well, I don't hate it, but it goes so much faster in the gym than at home for some reason.

My son started on an antibiotic last night. Yes, it is good to have a doctor in the family. My mother in law is a psychiatrist and neurologist (double specialty), but in Europe, you have to work as a general practioner before and while you specialize. Plus, she always worked in an emergency ward at a psychiatric hospital and she would have to deal with emergency situations and sick psychiatric patients all the time.

Getting ready for vacation. bought all the stuff we need for it yesterday. And tomorrow I'll bake for it all (on a super hot day -great timing). I'm half tempted to bring the scale with me. After chastising others for thinking of doing that! If it were any other time of my cycle, I would not be tempted to do that, but this is JUST when I expect my whoosh and seeing that and FEELING the weight come off is a big mental uplifter after seeing the scale stay steady or go up for over two weeks during my stall out. But, my husband would not let me hear the end of it if I do, so I think I won't, but I want to!

People snuck in here and posted while I was posting:

Stacygee How about some photos to share with us? With all the hard work you put in at that gym, you probably look far better than you give yourself credit for! Pictures really, really help put things in perspective and others can view them with different perspectives. We cannot see ourselves with unbiased eyes (and most of us see ourselves worse than others do).

Roadbikerchick So glad to have you back. I bought a bike recently and I can't make it up measly small hills! I hope to keep getting stronger and stronger because my true hope is to ride to work, the grocery store, etc. But then, there's weather like this - who wants to be on the hot pavement when it's near 100 degrees? Stacy--Ugh, it's my legs!! I have HUGE thighs and calves. Part of it is muscle, but there's definitely a nice big layer of fat over them. Dimply and horrible. :o I also have a bit of a belly from being pregnant five times. That one is stretched out skin and I'm not sure it'll ever be flat (without surgery). But, thanks for the kind words.

Roadbikerchick--Aw, thanks! I feel self conscious, but I've always felt that way. My doctor was the one that recommended 175, but I admit to being totally envious of those that can wear size 6/8. I'm a 12 now. Awesome job on being 2.6 down since Monday! And I think 2000 calories is great!!

shishkeberry--Congrats on being down! I don't seem to gain during TTOM either. I do gain about midcycle during ovulation like Berry has mentioned. I definitely see the water weight then. :p

Berry--Yep, I'm exercising. I have considered just concentrating on toning and stuff once I reach my goal. I'm a wimp and could work on some endurance training. ;) Enjoy your vacation! My hubby wouldn't even let me look at a scale or count calories while I was on mine.

Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone is staying cool today.
Yesterday was a great day for me after the scale gave me a kick in the pants and I got a little pissy about it. Walked an hour with my friend and then came home and ran 3 miles on the TM. The rest of the day was garage sale stuff, climbing ladders, hauling and cleaning and sweating buckets throughout. Had to keep jumping in the pool to stay sane. Eating was perfect and I came in just under 1200 calories, which is low for that active of a day, but after the weekend, I needed a low day. So you are all probably wondering how much of a kick in the pants I got from my scale right? Not even sure I want to write it, but I was up 5 pounds :yikes:. How many calories does wine have anyways? I tried to reason with myself that it was partially water weight, but I was still mad at myself.
Today has started out the same with the same workout (a walk and a run) and I have dropped 2+ pounds of that 5. I think I will eat around 1200 again today, just to even out those few days of mishaps.
Larry, :bday2you: Hope you have a great day! Enjoy.

Shells, first of all, you look beautiful! I can tell you feel good about where you are at, but maybe there is no harm in sticking with what you are doing to see where you settle. If you don't lose anymore, great, you feel good, but if you do, then see how you feel there. What does your DH think?
I find this interesting because I am close to where you are at, I feel good in clothing and in general feel good about my body, but I have areas that could be improved (and I always will). I picked my goal weight based on the middle of a normal BMI for me. I find myself wondering if I have another 35-40 pounds to lose. So the other day, I was in my bathing suit outside and DH and I were in conversation about something along those lines and I asked him if he honestly thought I had another 40 pounds to lose. Without hesitation, in a very nice way he said yes  I stopped him before he could point out where the 40 pounds were

Good monring all

Just a quick post because I'm already a little late for work

Not too bad a day yesterday, although I was so hungry. I stuck to healthy eaiting
- breakfast: eggwhite omlete + blueberries
- lunch: salad with grilled tofu
- snack: peach
- dinner: (went to a friends, and tried to be very self controlled) edamame salad, steamed veggies, and quinoa. I resisted the ice cream and the lemonade, and stuck to 3 cans of La Croix!

Well, it paid off, because today finally the scale showed one pound loss (and hopefully now I'm losing real weight instead of water weight)

I also did my morning C25K run, so hope that today goes well.

I would love to respond to all of you - so many great posts! But will have to wait until later!

Cheers to all of you

My doctor said that I was big boned and shouldn't go below 175, but I don't see what they see? I see many places I could stand to lose some weight. I'm not even in the healthy BMI for my height yet. Hence, the confusion on where I should be... :?: But, I do like your idea about just continuing and seeing where my weight naturally settles. Thanks! :)

Hence, the confusion on where I should be... :?: But, I do like your idea about just continuing and seeing where my weight naturally settles. Thanks! :)

Couple things. One, have you taken the body size calculations? Now, they are estimates, but they give you a good idea. I found one for wrist size and elbow size. Basically, for your height if your wrists are 6.5" circumference and over, you are large boned.

Second, my guess is that a lot of the areas you still are concerned about are issues with loose skin. You lost fairly quickly and it takes time for the skin to shrink up. You may find that with time those trouble areas get better as the skin shrinks up. Cellulite, or dimply legs can happen at any weight and you'll probably never get rid of that without surgery.

And about BMI. Individuals should not look at those for themselves. There will be outlyers on both ends. It's a number to capture populations, not individuals. MOST people will fit within that, some will not. My son does not fit within the norms for height or weight, but that doesn't mean it's wrong/bad. He just doesn't fit on some nice, neat curve doctors and scientists made up.

Lastly, my plan is what Jomatho mentioned. I'm going to continuing eating at a sustainable level (between 1300-1500 calories) and exercise an hour 5-6 times a week and where that takes me is what that takes me. There is no set goal for weight really. I have 175 as my end goal, but I know I'll still be overweight then. But I also know it's a realistic, attainable weight. What I get beyond that will be the icing on the cake. Basically, I just want to be healthy and fit. The number on the scale will just be a reflection of my fitness and that's it.

shellsbrood
07-20-2011, 12:03 PM
Thanks for your reply, Melissa. I did measure my wrists and it was just over 6.5. So, do you think you'll be eating between 1300-1500 forever? Or do you think that once you reach 175 you'll eat at a maintenance range?

Good morning everyone! I weighed in at 285 again this morning, but I'm happy to report that the scale numbers flashed down to 284 a couple times before settling to round themselves up, so maybe I'm decreasing a few tenths. : )

I ate calories to my goal yesterday, and was really contented and had no hunger pangs at all--of course, so far, my goal is 2280 per day! In ten pounds I'm going to bring that down about 80-100 cals a day. My first Ten pounds...Oh, that will be a good day! I'ma get me one of those neat little tickers some of you have!

I'm two and a half weeks into my weight loss journey, and have only lost one pound. But one pound--hey! I'll take it. I've done the Atkins thing before--lost 30 lbs in like two months--and gained 20 of it back the instant I had a stomach flu and had to eat dry toast for a week. So if this one pound stays off...I'll take it. I'll take it.

Larry: Happy Birthday! I told my Boyfriend about your weight loss stats this morning and he got really inspired. Maybe he'll join us on here soon!
Berryblondeboys: I hear you. I used to be a ballet dancer when I was, well, like age 2 through college. I definitely have my knee issues. Surprisingly, I have been lucky so far. I do jog pretty slowly, and have had none of those twinges I so came to dread doing dance (or even yoga). I will remain mindful and listen to my body! : ) I'm going to check out that video you mentioned, too. Anything that makes your arms feel rubbery sounds worth it! (don't you just love that feeling?)

Stay strong and healthy, ladies and gents. <3

Good Morning Everyone,
I woke up in better mood, not sure how much better we'll have to see. I did start dinner in crock pot and made myself breakfast so it's a start. I'll even be trying to workout after posting.

Larry :bday2you: I hope you have a wonderful time with your family. Italian is too yummy for words so enjoy, you deserve it!

abluvion :welcome: how did the night alone go for you? My DH is out of town all week so I get the boredome/loneliness thing. Hope you made it through :)

mlgibson how did weigh in go. I hope it went your way, but if not don't fret you're doing wonderfully. :)

alaskan is all that cake gone? Man, I'm glad I don't love baking, I'd never ever make it. Did you get your ride in?

shish so glad you drop another pound and put TOM into his place. Oh man, I had the worst TOM's ever. I had a bad uterus and got rid of it. So so glad that's over! Keep going you're doing great! :)

Stardust :welcome: I tried Alli a few years ago. I can't say I ever lost weight (not because of the pill-I just wasn't ready yet). Be careful though with the fat because it doesn't not go well with Alli. I researched the heck out of that pill and was still unprepared when I ate too much fat...ugh. Good Luck..keep us posted :)

Krystal my dog once had allergy eye and I had to put in ointment (prescription). I thought that looked worse than the actual allergy. I hope puppy gets better. Just a thought (as I watch my dog wipe her face after eating) if it's itchy for River, she/he might cause more damage scratching with her claws. IDK if that's even an issue, but like I said I'm watching Goof over here wiping her muzzle on my bed after she eats. Dingy dog. :D

vixsin yay doing good.

zoodoo keep it up, you are doing wonderfully. You said you wished it came faster (the new lows) it seems like every time I read a post you mention a new low. You're dong so good! :)

abigail :welcome:

JuhiR great job on pound down, keep going.

Jomotho how brave of you to ask if you could lose more. I don't know if I could hear the answer from my husband. Although at this stage in the game if he said no, I would know he's lying

Mojojuju one pound down is great. Some of the friends have whooshes, those are cool. Slow and steady does work best. I lost a good deal of this almost 40 pounds last year slowly and then got sick. I only gained 10 back and that's because I turned to cake :P Eating habits are really key to weight loss. If we could learn to eat properly we will lose weight.

Well as I've said I made it through without cheating. I did struggle with getting enough calories yesterday, but I think I did ok. I dropped another .8 so that brings me to one pound away from lowest weight in a 100 years. I'm so excited about it I want to buy a cake! HAAAA, kidding :D:D:D:D:D Thanks for all your well wishes. I think today is a good day.

I hope you all have a wonderful and healthy day!

Shells Congrats on that pound! I love the picture. I think you look beautiful and perfect as you are. In fact I would describe you as being slim. Magnum doesn't seem to be feeling well today. I am wondering if he woke me up this morning or if it was insomnia. :dunno: The weight gain from the allergic reactions is a total PITA! Sodium is bad, but not as bad as the allergy. My Dr and I discussed my goal weight. I think she said 145-150, maybe it was 150-155. Anyways, I have always been very bottom heavy. I carry my weight below my waist and above my knees. That trouble area really slimmed down when I lost the last 10 pounds or so. I have a lot of loose skin that I am not happy about, but I am not willing to go through surgery to get rid of it. Now, I can honesly say that I don't walk around feeling self conscious about my body, as long as it is fully clothed. ;) I don't feel like I have to suck in my stomach and I don't have bumps and bulges, etc. I would still only rate my body a 2 on a scale of 1-10 and 10 being the best. I have done the best I could with my body without going through major training or surgery. I would advise you to see how you feel when you get to goal, and then make a decision. I really think the trouble areas are the last to budge.

Shiskkeberry Congrats on your weigh in!

Roadbikerchick Congrats on the 2.6 pounds.

Berry Nope, I didn't get back to sleep. Normally once I am awake, I can't go back to sleep until that night. I did get some laundry and stuff done. You have to make to most out of the situation. ;) I think they look for antibodies (I forgot what they called them ) It's signs of an allergic reaction to make sure it is an allergy and not something else. Also, I think they have a set panel of the most common allergens. They were also testing to see if I am still allergic to penicillin. I guess they do everything at one time. :dunno: I had an anaphylactic reaction to penicillin as a child. I don't really care what they say about the penicillin. I will continue to say I am allergic to it. I don't want to risk it. I think I missed something. I know you are going on vacation, but I don't know where.

Vixsin Congrats on the .6.

Jomatho Great job on the workout and the 2 pounds!

Abigail Hi and Welcome! You are off to a great start.

JuhiR Great job on that pound!

I'm working tonight.
I ate Chinese for lunch today and had a 1800 cal day.
I'll check in tomorrow.

I did get River drops for her eyes. It seems to be somewhat helpful. The discharge is not as productive. We'll see how she is in the morning.

Have a great OP evening ;)

Ok bought 30 day shred and the other similar one out, forgot the name. I figure I can do that while staying with family and at the hotel if nothing else. We're bringing a portable DVD player for the kids in the car. How funny will I look doing that? But I've worked so hard for 7 months, I don't want to go - week without doing anything but light, slow walking with kids.

I k ow they need weights. I guess I should do it tomorrow before going to see what I need to bring to do the workout.

Thank You ALL for all of your kind birthday wishes!!

No scale movement today, I am still at 222 pounds.

I have had a great birthday. I am a little over my calories today due to the Italian Pasta, but my sodium is sky high and off the scale. I will probably have a gain tomorrow as a result.

My calorie cycling so far is:

7/18/11 - Mon -goal 1651 calories - actual was 1864 (213 over)
7/19/11 - Tue -goal 1201 calories - actual was 904 (297 under)
7/20/11 - Wed -goal 1501 calories - actual was 1636 (135 over)
7/21/11 - Thu -goal 1351 calories - actual was
7/15/11 - Fri - goal 1801 calories - actual was 1829 (29 over)
7/16/11 - Sat -goal 1501 calories - actual was 1468 (33 under)
7/17/11 - Sun -goal 1501 calories - actual was 1404 (97 under)

Total for the week 50 calories under. :D I will take that!!:carrot:

I got in a one mile walk tonight with my Son, Daughter in Law and Grandson.

My DW and I are returning to the same Italian Restaurant tomorrow to see friends we have not seen in a year. I will eat lightly either by choosing a different meal or by cutting my portion size. Where there is a will there is a way!!:D

Thanks for your reply, Melissa. I did measure my wrists and it was just over 6.5. So, do you think you'll be eating between 1300-1500 forever? Or do you think that once you reach 175 you'll eat at a maintenance range?

I think I'll be eating 1300-1500 forever. I'm not hungry eating at that level. I figure I'll just keep dropping weight until it doesn't drop any more at that weight and fitness level. Now, of course, that's what I 'think'. What will probably really happen is that I will eat around 1400 most days, but will have once a week or so of a higher calorie day with dessert of something and then I'll need the rest of the days to be a bit lower to compensate for the higher days. But, I'm not stopping at 175. That's just where I'll be happy enough. Anything beyond that is icing.

Good Evening All,
Well I cracked. I needed sweets and I needed them bad. SO I packed up the kids and went for ice cream (at store). We looked and looked, nothing low carb at all. I felt the need, the want to cheat, but also I'm one pound away from 40#'s I just didn't want to BLOW it. So I let the kids get their ice cream and I moved on. Ha, I got ready to eat cheese cake filling, atkin's oatmeal day break bars and heavy whipped cream. I made a small cheese cake. Yes, I'm sure it's over calories and carbs that I should be eating but I still came under! Maybe it'll take another day to lose that pound but I don't feel guilty. And it satisfied me.
I hope you all have a great night. :)

just checking in...watched the kids today and then ran a bunch of errands right after they left...its sunny today and, while the temp in the sun reads 82, it doesnt feel like that...i dont dare get sunburned again anyhow, so ive been in the shade with long sleeves on LOL

ive been hungry ALL DAY LONG! ive made sure to eat very healthy and eat frequently but even so, omg hungry!...i attribute that to the lower carbs in my body today, in fact nearly all of my carbs have come from two portioned servings of cherries today....

been working to get my vitamins taken each day and getting some weights lifted each day ...will probably go for a bike ride later

Alaskan, I think you took my appetite! Lol! I'm only at 800 cal for the day and I'm not feeling hungry one bit. It's midnight here now and I'll probably go to bed by one thirty. I don't know if I'll want to eat anything by then. I had one meal today (ww spaghetti with my homemade meatballs and half a cup of sauce) which came to about 450 cals. Other than a yogurt for lunch, I just kind of picked at things today. A baby carrot or two here, some strawberries and blueberries there. Just not hungry at all *shrug*

Wow, you know I'm up early when I am the first morning poster, that doesn't happen very often. Woke up at 6 and felt wide awake. Waiting to see if my walking partner will walk today, she wasn't sure if she would make it today. I hope so because my plan is an hour walk with her and then come home to run (hopefully) at least 3 miles. I need to workout today because the next two days are the garage sale, starting at 8 each day, so I am not sure what I will get in those days. And then, my friend is out of town until next Wednesday, so I am on my own after today for a little while. I predict some running miles to be racked up in the next several days here. I need it!

Down another 1.2 of my weekend gain, another 1.8 to go to get back to my low. I feel like I say that every week lately. This weekend will be on plan!

Today is going to be hot, hot, hot, as I know it is for most of us. Have loads to do still to get ready for the sale, so I will be very active all day.

Fajitas for dinner, haven't made those in forever and they sound so yummy. Had DH grill up the marinated beef last night when he was grilling dinner and I snitched a piece when I was slicing it mmmmm, so I don't need to worry about dinner with the exception of sauteeing the peppers and onions. Gosh I hope I make it to dinner, those sound good enough to eat right now!

Hope everyone has a great day, make some good decisions!!!

Some time for personals (sounds better than unloading the dishwasher or starting laundry for the day )
Shiskeberry, Hope TTOM regulates for you real soon, those hormones do get out of whack after babies and nursing. I too lose easier right around TOM and the week after, it is mid cycle that I have more trouble and may even see a gain.
Alaskanlaughter, holy cow, that is a big crab! I wouldn't survive there as I don't like most seafood. I do like cooked shrimp and very mild fish like tilapia, but that is about it. I kept reading your posts about too much salmon and cherries. Since when are salmon and cherries bad for you? Cake, yes, avoid that a little more, but I say eat those cherries and ,really, how much salmon can one eat? I know it has more calories because it is oily, but all super good for you!
Mlgibson, sorry about your tummy troubles, but way to go getting that jog in!
Mamakat, good for you for not splurging on the ice cream. You kept your carbs lower by doing what you did and that was probably a better decision than too much ice cream. I hope it satisfied that sweet tooth for a while. When I get one, it is usually for chocolate!
Berry, have fun on vacation! I admire your tenacity with bringing your workouts with you! How long will you be gone? Eeek, thats a lot of calories in that wine, but you are right, if I were to go back and add it all up, I know I didn't gain 5 pounds, I just hold water easily when I splurge. I estimate maybe 1/2 -1 pound is true weight that I have to re-lose.
Larry, wow, Italian two nights in a row, lucky you! Hope you had a great birthday!
K9, wish I lived closer to you so you could come bring me fresh peas and have some wine. No, I think you and I would find trouble together
Mojojuju, :yay: for the first pound. It is good to look at weight loss in smaller chunks, like you said, 10 pounds. And yes, slower is better as is finding something that is sustainable for you in the long run, with both diet and exercise. Oh, and I started running when I was 230 on a 5'7" frame and I made it through, just be careful and keep listening to your body. I find running is my favorite because I can burn calories quicker than other exercises, I don't have to think about it too much (I'm a little uncoordinated) and it seems to keep me from bouncing around too much on the scale when I do it often enough, must be the sweat factor. Good luck!
JuhiR, Hmmm, I hope I am not getting you and Mojo mixed up, but congrats to you on that pound and way to go with your running! You both have now lost one pound and both are starting running right? Good job, keep the momentum!
Zoodoo, :woohoo: on the new low!
Roadbiker, that weight is melting right back off you! When I read of your rides, makes me want to hit the road too! If only there were more time in the day. . .
Vixsin, you are on fire girl! Keep the momentum going, love it!
Abby, :welcome:

Not sure what's going on with me. I ate pretty badly yesterday. I won't go into details, but there wasn't a lot of fruits or vegetables. It started with an unexpected lunch meeting that, literally, left a bad taste in my mouth. Calories were about 2000, which is high but not crazy high, but it was a lot of food that are just not part of my normal routines.

So today: weigh-in 195.8. No surprise there. Days like yesterday are why I don't get two lows in a row. I feel pretty bad. Spacey and dizzy. Not majorly so, but enough to feel off. I don't know if it's the crappy food yesterday, impending TOM, or crushing stress levels, but something's gotten to me. I was tempted to stay home today, but I just can't do that without being flat on my back sick.

I hope everyone has a better day than mine's started out.

Good Morning everyone,

Jomatho you must have the "christmas day jitters" only not for christmas, but for your yard sale. :) You were up, posting, planned out into the night and the next two days! I woke up this morning and said to myself I have to pee, then I closed my eyes again. I hope you get everything done that you have to (which sounds like a lot) if your friend can't walk somehow I see you "working out" anyway :)

Diana good morning :)

Yes, it's true I made a good decision last night, that's a first (well ok not a first). I'm proud of myself. I did two things that were super important last night, although I'm sure I didn't realize it then. 1) I made and alternative with lower carb ingredients for myself which is a healthier choice instead of going all out bad on myself. Yay me. (mini cheer). and 2) I showed my kids that when something is important and roadblocks get in the way (cravings) if we "drive" slower we have a chance to see detours. I want them to learn by my example (and I'm not always the best role model). I want them to one day see that mom was fat and ate a lot of cake, but when she really put her mind to it, she lost weight and now has control (which I have to say is a lot considering I'm out of control a lot and not just with food).

So all is good! I'm up .2, not bad ey? Maybe tomorrow I'll hit the big 40#, maybe not :p I am supposed to have jury duty so I have no idea what I should do. I think I'm just going to have a shake on my way out, a bar for lunch and another for a snack if I get super hungry. I'll take my packets of sf hawaiin punches and hopefully they'll have water fountain or bottles somewhere. My plan is to do a drive by today so I know where I have to be tomorrow at 8.30. Ugh I hate new places. And now wish I would have gotten a doctor's note. I'm hoping they don't pick me because I'm not mentally reliable to pay attention or to do the right thing. Let's just hope when I call tonight they don't need me.

I hope you all have a wonderful and healthy day!

Weight: 288.8 :( Up almost four pounds from yesterday, and three pounds from my "starting" weight two and a half weeks ago. Oy. Maybe I should go back to weighing myself just once a week. I know that I'm one of those people whose water weight fluctuates madly. Hoping it is just that. :( Building muscle, or something.

Did my run today, and it's actually getting to the point where I almost don't feel guilty calling it a "run!" I walked 5 ran 4 pretty much the whole way. It was hard, whew! Tomorrow is a cross training day, though, so I get to take it pretty easy and swim instead. Woohoo!

Calorie counted to the last calorie yesterday, but I had a realization. :gasp: I had been forgetting to calculate the calories in my cereal milk, so I was about 110 calories high every day. I doubt that counted towards the weight gain, honestly. But at least now I know!

How is everyone else doing? Anyone else have any good stories about how their weight didn't drop after two and a half weeks of exercise? I better woosh soon, or I'm gonna get cranky. >.<

Mamakat: Sounds like you have a plan for jury duty day. Those things can be dangerous, cause you're just sitting there doing nothing for hours! When I had to do it I was sure I brought tons of healthy snacks so I wasn't tempted by the courthouse vending machines, and a magazine with lots of rather in-shape people to keep me motivated. And a book, cause man, sometimes those lawyers take FOREVER.

Jomatho: Thanks! I like your avatar! I was thinking I'd change to something "runny" (that sounds somehow wrong, eh?) when I really felt I deserved it.

Hi all

So wonderful to see everyone's progress. I had a tiny personal victory today and thought I'd share. I had a meeting at 8:00 and had to leave home at 7:30 (btw, we don't have AC at home, so I wake up every morning bathed in sweat and feeling not very rested). So, I ended up with no time for breakfast at home, and had a minor panic - what was I going to eat, and I'm so hungry all the time. Quelching the crankiness at my meeting, I decided I would work at the public library and not at my hot home..... ok, I'll get to the point already.... so I stopped at Dunkin Donuts since I was starving, and got the $1.29 Eggwhite veggie wrap, it totally satisfied me, and I felt so relieved that I could make this choice and not succumb to my donut craving. Along with a skim milk iced coffee, I felt it was the best breakfast ever! Funny how being really hungry will do that.

I know I won't have time to exercise today, but I have kept my committment the last 5 days, so taking today off will be ok. I walked 8 blocks this morning, and will do another 8 blocks this afternoon, so will just count that towards my activity level. Yes, I have started running recently - and am on week one of the C25K program, so today is a scheduled day off from that as well.

Anyways, yesterday was fine - I just ate veggies and tofu in many different combinations all day, and had a low fat cheese snack at night to help with my cravings.

mojoju - stick with the running, its brutal in this hot weather, but it will get cooler in a few months, and you'll be able to do so much more by then (at least that's what I'm telling myself)

vixsin - thanks for the link, very useful, and congrats on pushing forward

jomatho - thanks for the note, yes I just started running this week!

mamakat - great to see that your week is improving, you're such a strong person, I'm amazed by you

and Diana - thanks for kicking each day off

Have a great day everyone!

That is water weight. It takes about 3500 calories above your requirements to gain a pound. So unless you consumed 14,000 calories above your maintenance level it is not fat. Sodium can wreck havoc with us, about a month ago my sodium was very high one day and the scale showed that I gained 12 pounds over night!! Even at my worst I could not eat enough food in one day to gain that much. It was all gone in a couple of days and I was back to normal. Not that I ever claim to be normal.

Oh Man, my older son is still sick. We're beginning to worry it's mono. He's had a high fever for 5 days now (after it hits 102 we give him tylenol) - every day for 4 full days, working on day five now. Super sore throat. He's been on antibiotics for two days, it's touching nothing.

So, day one of vacation is already cancelled (tomorrow). We might see if we can flip the vacation around - first Boston and then CT. We'll see... It's not looking good.

But, trying to stay positive. If it is mono. It's best for my high schooler to get it NOW in summer and not in HS or worse, college. Actually, any virus this long/intense is best to get now.

None of the adults are getting it around us (MIL, myself or DH). We'll have them test for it at 4 pm today at his appt. We're running out of things it could possibly be after so long of sickness.

If you have the money, you could make a routine of going to DnD for those items, it will become something you look forward to, and before you know it a healthy habit is formed! I absolutely love their low fat sugar free coffee. It's def a cut above the rest of the fast food coffees, I don't care that McDonalds puts a "Cafe" after their trademark, lol. Their coffee is still terribad.

VixSin: Wow, that's awesome! Thanks for that neat link!

Is it hot enough for everyone? Ugh, I hate the heat...I hate the cold too. I do NOT have jury duty tomorrow...yay. I was riding away today and thought "oh no, when will I get exercise in" now I don't have to worry. I bought a new wig just in case and now I don't have that excuse...oh well, not returning it.

Mojojuju Larry is correct, I remember when he gained that 12lbs, we were very worried. But he lost it. Water weight is terrible and it sure hits all differently, some more than others. I weigh every day, but I don't freak out when I gain because I know that in the past if I weigh once a week, I see a difference. We normally don't see the up and downs when we weigh once a week. You're doing great, your weight loss will soon follow.

JuhiR I didn't even know DnD served stuff like that  I thought it was only donuts and coffee. Oh, I don't think I could ever go to a DnD and not get a donut...good for you. :)

berry what did the doctor say? I got tested for mono years ago in the E/R and they never got back with the results, they just medicated me as though it was a done deal. Ugh, I hope he gets better soon.

alaskan how you doing up there? I hope you are doing ok.

Well now I have to figure out what to feed the kids and I. DH's flight got postponed in Midway (Chicago) for 4 hours! He says he can't get Wifi and there's no shops to kill time in. No shops! what kind of airport is that? I feel bad for him. He will land in Providence around 11-11.30 and have a 2-3 hour drive home...that blows. Today has been a bad day for a lot of people. It can only get better, right?
OH and tell me this...I made 13 miles (one mile more than usual) and still came out the same calories. I don't get it. That doesn't seem right or fair :p

I hope you all have a wonderful and healthy evening. Keep going :)

we're doing fine here...our concern is that, because the land is flat, if the river does flood higher it will just seep across everything...however there's an awful lot of homes and roads between us and the river...reports say the river is receding now so we'll see....

ive never been to a dunkin donuts before...they dont have those where i live and probably not even in the big city up north either...

been eating good today, took my vitamins and did some hand weights...would like to go for a bike ride tonight and go down to see the flooding

Quick question while I'm thinking about it, do any of you take iron supplements? I'm worried about my iron intake (and also I have extremely heavy flow TTOMs - I mean like changing a super plus tampon every two hours heavy) but I don't want to be constipated. Any suggestions? I guess a multi would be ok, too, if it had enough iron.

mamakat
07-21-2011, 06:48 PM
I used to have heavy flow, maybe a vitamin with iron would be ok. I have to get iron treatments because I don't make enough, but even so my hematologist never suggests for me to take a supplement. It might be that it wouldn't help in my case as it never did in the past. Have you ever had it checked? Something to think about. Call your Gyno and see what he/she says. One pill a day shouldn't hurt and you can also have a glass of (ugh thinking of name...) it's fiber and comes in orange flavor...geeze, you mix it up. I'm sorry some days my memory is for nada and right now i....Metamucil. Thank you :p That's good for a lot of things according to my Gastroenterologist (however you spell it).

I'm sure that wasn't helpful at all....sorry. Call you Gyno and a vitamin with iron. There. LOL I need sleep or something.
good luck :)

Hey all, don't think I posted for the last couple of days. On 20/7 I had around 1100 calories - a little low perhaps but I did feel that I'd eaten a lot so maybe I undercounted on some things. I did get up a tad late so didn't eat breakfast, but through the day had a wholemeal sandwich with salmon and cucumber, with a clementine as a snack. Weds night had a non-fat roast - lean beef, and veg roasted with just an oil spray.

Yesterday I'm estimating around 1400 cals I had cereal for breakfast, then smoked salmon and some home made low fat potato salad and salad for lunch. For dinner we went out. I had two courses but didn't eat them all, and didn't eat the high-fat parts. My cal counting could be wildly out given that I don't know exactly how they were prepared.

I'm now 215 lbs - total of 6 down in my first week of a healthier approach to eating. I'm at that stage where it's not feeling difficult, so that's great. But at the same time, I'm not feeling maniacal or obsessed by it, which I have in the past when I'm trying to lose weight. I'm kind of calm about it. It feels like a healthier head space, and one I can probably keep going with.

Anyway - thanks all for the support through the week - as I get to know you all better I hope I can be of more support in return!

hi all....the river has started to recede, it crested at nearly 12 feet but didnt substantially flood any homes...it was caused by a lake within the glacier that burst its dam and emptied into the lake at the bottom of the glacier and down the river....there was talk of evacuations today if it got higher but it didnt

some campgrounds are flooded and the trails are closed...advised for people not to even linger on the trail bridges, as erosion might take out the bridges...i will post a pic or two here later...krystal, i have lots of photos for u to see on facebook!

ended the day at 1580 calories and 111 carbs....higher carbs because i've continued to add fruit to my food...i dont know if i should or not, because i dont know what it will do to my blood sugar levels and i havent tested that in awhile...but i just cant resist having fruit...i really hope it's okay to have....i had some baked ham for dinner but it was just WAY too salty for me so i didnt eat as much as i could have...ive heard so much on here about sodium and stalls/gains that i just didnt want to eat more of it

here are some pics....the water is WAY higher in the lake than normal and, yes, those are icebergs

here is my son standing on an iceberg that washed ashore...the glacier is behind him and so is the lake

here is another picture of the iceberg that washed ashore, with the glacier behind it...this is all within 2 miles of our house

and this is of my son, in the green shirt, sliding down a giant smooth glacial rock left behind as the glacier receded

No scale movement today, I am still at 222 pounds The sodium water gain that I has expected never happened.

I have had a great birthday. I am a little over my calories today due to the Italian Pasta, but my sodium is sky high and off the scale. I will probably have a gain tomorrow as a result.

THe first full week of calorie cycling is complete. I have to agree with what Melissa posted when I started. This is a much more normal way of eating varying my daily intake instead of trying to rigidly eat the same amount every day. I have also found out that I really like the inherent flexibility:

7/18/11 - Mon -goal 1651 calories - actual was 1864 (213 over)
7/19/11 - Tue -goal 1201 calories - actual was 904 (297 under)
7/20/11 - Wed -goal 1501 calories - actual was 1636 (135 over)
7/21/11 - Thu -goal 1351 calories - actual was 1148 (203 under)
7/15/11 - Fri - goal 1801 calories - actual was 1829 (29 over)
7/16/11 - Sat -goal 1501 calories - actual was 1468 (33 under)
7/17/11 - Sun -goal 1501 calories - actual was 1404 (97 under)

Total for the 7 day week is 253 calories under. I will take that!!

No walk today due to the heat. I felt OK but my family was very concerned. So in he interest of calm I relented to their wishes.

My DW and I returned to the same Italian Restaurant. I changed my order eliminating Italian sausage. This resolved my high sodium and lowered my calories. The food was delish.

Good morning all. I will catch up on posts later today.
I am down 6.5lbs for the week, weighing in at 251. 14lbs for the month so far and 15.5 lbs since rejoining 3fc. More than 5% of my starting weight.

I am enjoying the feeling of hunger.
I wore my favorite pair of jeans last night and they were literally falling off me. Time to donate them and find a new favorite pair.
My belly stretch marks are turning silvery and not so noticeable.
I am becoming interested in sex again.
I am more satisfied with less food.
I have discovered the joy of iced coffee with cream, no sweetener. Sometimes caffeine makes the world go round.
DS has lost 2 lbs and is making healthier choices.
DH has lost at least 3 lbs and is also making healthier choices.
Both of them are doing it for them and not just to help me but at the same time it does help me :)
It's Friday so 2 days off after today and fun stuff planned for tomorrow.
The video I made came out awesome, the widow I made it for loved it, it will be a special part of the celebration of her husband's life next week.

:happy sigh: Right at this moment I am content.

Happy, healthy day to all.

Good Morning and TGIF! I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

The forum was down last night so I couldn't post my foods. I had a high sodium meal last nigh. I think I need to avoid eating soup out. We also went to a place that we don't normally go to. DH wanted something "different".

Remember I thought I had insomnia the other day? It wasn't insomnia. It was Magnum. The last 3 nights he has woke us up between 3 and 3:30. I figured out what the problem is. We have been keeping him at home during the day because it has been too hot to take him to the shop. We also felt he would be more comfortable at home. Anyways, we have been feeding him later at night than we normally do. This means he has to go out at different times than normal. That first night, I didn't realize that he had barked. I just thought I woke up. Whenever I get up, I let him out. We need to come up with another plan for his feedings. This 3 am crap (literally ;)) is for the birds!

Still no TTOM for me.

Weigh In: 146.8
Up: .6
Thank goodness for a maintenance range. ;)

You would think, if I was going to have craziness with the scale, that I would have had some serious fun. Meaning, eating a lot, alcohol, or crazy food that I normally don't eat. Not me.

Diana, my sleeplessness the other night was my dog, too. Woke me up and then I couldn't get back to sleep.

My sleeplessness last night was TOM, like you suggested.

I had cramps last night in the middle of the night. I haven't had cramps that bad in years. I'm blaming it on the heat. And speaking of things to blame on the heat, I'm up to 196.4 this morning. I'm surprised it's not worse. It's hot and I'm just incredibly swollen. We only get heat like this a few days a year, but when they hit, I almost regret my decision to get rid of the big ugly air conditioner.

Off to freeze at work. If I could just average the temperatures between work and home, I'd be happy.

Well, my whoosh is starting right on cue. Down 1.4 this morning meaning I'm 1 lbs over my all time low. The damage for water weight this cycle was minimal. Ironically, I was worrying about exercising on vacation, but I've only exercised once this week!!! Sick kids, messed up sleep and whacky scheduling is not helping me. Eating has been fine or even a bit lower, but i'm too tired to even really think about exercise. We had sick kid for a week, a few days reprieve and now sick kid for 6 days.

Vacation is postponed.... we'll see what the mono test has to say and decide if any of this vacation is salvageable or if no vacation (again) this year.

I love looking at your pics!! Absolutely stunning! We were flooded this past spring, but instead of icebergs, we had tornadoes and severe flooding. The park where I run--where the sunset pics are taken-- was completely under water! The MS River was at a record high and many people lost their homes due to the floodwater!

Good Morning Everyone,

berry sorry about your vacation being postponed. How is your son feeling today?

alaskan I'm glad everything turned out ok. Your son is cute, he looks like he's king of the world on that iceburg!

Krystal I hope you a wonderfully sunny holiday. I know how you love your sun. :)

zoodoo I feel like I'm in early menopause with this weather. A/c (freezing) outside (hot). Ugh I can't wait til normal temps come back. I heard it was supposed to be in the 100s tomorrow. I surely hope not as the company party will be happening (I'm not going, but still it's hot). Stay cool.

He gets up and grumbles the entire time, but when he's not here...I tell her she had her chance. she is trained! She knows go before bedtime or wait till morning. :) Good luck with your training. :)

I've been having sleepless nights, too. It's so got here that my daughter isn't sleeping well. Usually she sleeps from 8:30 until 7:30 or so, but it's been 11 when she finally goes to bed and she wakes up about six times through the night. It's awful. So we gave her the small ac that my son was using and gave him her fan. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow night. I'm down to 261.2. Only 1.1 lbs to go to my next mini goal. 10% lost!

But a regular flu is usually accompanied by stuffy head and cough. He doesn't have that. A bit of a cough, but more to clear his throat here and then, but not a flu/cold type cough.

DH is going crabbing with the guy who had the giant crab in the photo earlier...they're considered "brothers" because they grew up together and our kids are considered cousins and even look like each other....hope we'll have some crab this weekend

one time another one of the brothers brought home a real octopus! small though...and said to just boil it up like the crab...so we put it in a pot and boiled it up and they ate it....i tried it but it just tasted like rubbery saltwater...DH tried it and his lips got a little tingly so there might have still been toxins on it

No, because he's already on an antibiotic which would have taken care of it by now. But my younger son who was similarly sick before tested negative for strep, but had developed an ear infection (which could have been a secondary infection and not what was making him sick the previous 5 days).

Hi all

Wow, is the end of the week already here? More significantly, my first week at 3FC - how is it that I feel like I've known y'all for a long time? (xoxox). I did lose weight this week, but actually feel the best about the fact that I exercised regularly, that's typically my most difficult challenge.

Well, another busy morning for me..... started with an early morning meeting, but also with a little worry bc my daughter's crown from her tooth shattered last night, and I was very concerned about root damage (she broke her tooth slipping on the ice last winter). So - Berry, I empathize with you, and hope your son is on the way to recovery. Dentist has given her a temp cap, and we have to go back again on Monday for more work.

Anyway, here's my daily check in:

Yesterday was a day of challenges - not just the breakfast at DD, but my morning client is a restaurant owner, and she insists on my eating every time I have a meeting at her restaurant (lovely, but oh so challenging). In the afternoon - my husband wanted to get som'n cold - so my choice was between a lite beer, and sugared ice tea. Since I'd had a good week, I decided to go with the "In Moderation" approach, and nibbled and sipped small quantities of everything. Not a diet day, but not a terrible guilty one either.

Today, back on track. Did a lunchtime run, and had a healthy salad.

Not a bad first week, eh?

Diana: thanks for the details, I'm going to mimic your diet one day next week, it's so balanced!
Berry: so sorry you had to miss your vacation, and hope that you get some news soon about the tests
Alaskan: thanks for the beautiful pics (my husband spent many years in Alaska, and I showed them to him)
Vixsin & Jomatho: congrats on the loss
Mojojuju: The heat is probably messing up your water gain, I would just write it off as a bad week. The "whoosh" willl come soon
Mamakat: Yes, there are stores at Midway..... but it's a small airport, and if your DH is not into books or tourist items, perhaps there wasn't much to interest him. We love that airport (instead of the other Chicago airport O'Hare) because it IS small, and one can clear security and get around much quicker. SouthWest is the big carrier at that airport, and so the quick-in quick-out approach works well.
Krystal: Can't think of anything to say to you - just saying hi.

Have a great weekend everyone!

We had a very challenging but successful day at the office today and the doctors bought us all ice cream shakes. Guess who passed it up? Go on, guess :)

I am not talking about weight loss at all at work, so when pressed as to why I didn't want one I said it was b/c of my blood sugar. I did have an iced coffee at lunch and played that up as my "treat" for the day.

The heat has made me have no appetite but I've been making myself eat b/c I don't want to stall out on my weight loss. I do actually feel kind of hungry tonight and DH bought fish for the grill and we have zucchini from the garden to grill as well.

Hoping to catch up on posts later this evening.
Hope everyone is having a great day :)

They are in the legume family, which is the same as peanuts. I didn't think about this at the time. I wonder if this is the culprit. :dunno: Here's a list of foods in the legume family.

Legume:Acacia; Acacia Gum; Alfalfa; Arabic; Black-eyed pea; Carob; Carob (St. John's Bread); Cassia; Chick Pea; Field Pea; Green Bean; Green Pea; Guar gum; Jack bean; Karaya Gum; Kidney bean; Lentil; Licorice; Lima bean; Locust Bean Gum; Mungo Bean; Navy Bean; Peanut; Peanut oil; Pinto Bean; Soybean; Soybean oil/flour/lecithin; Split Pea; String Bean; Talca Gum; Tamarind; Tonka bean; Tragancanth Gum; Urd Flour.

I have always eaten a lot of green beans. I think soy is in everything, too. I do try to avoid soy as much as possible. A lot of restaurants use peanut oil, too. Craziness!

Hey everyone!

I have not fallen off the wagon but my stinking laptop has!!!It will only work when connected directly to my DH computer. Not sure why, don't know much about any of this computer business. I have still been reading everynight when we come upstairs but I am usually nursing Landon then and am not good at the one handed typing. This week has been really good as far as food is concerned and I have been reading a ton of the books I have had forever on weight loss, diet, and overeaters anonymous materials too. I guess its been a bit of a blessing I can only get on the computer at night. Between 3fc and facebook a girl can get seriously distracted! My house is also been cleaner this week, go figure.
I haven't exersiced this week. It was just too much when I was doing the 5 mile dvd and watching what I was eating and still exclusively breastfeeding. My milk started to dwindle so I had to rethink some things. All the websites say that for my weight and breastfeeding I should be at 2000 calories to lose and most days imm in between 13 and 1500. I am going to start slow this next week and just do a mile 3x a week with some light arm weights and see how I can handle that as far as my supply is concerned and not feeling like im starving.
Haven't had time to do any personals and am about to go to sleep. I am hoping to be on tomorrow to do personals since its the weekend and DH is home he can help with Landon.
Landon is eating rice cereal now and starting to crawl. It goes by so amazingly fast and I just wish I could slow down the clock!!!
Hope everyone has an AMAZING on plan weekend!!!

hi everyone! checking in for the night...got all my vitamins in today and the short hand weights that i do, got a nice 3-mile bike ride in tonight....had planned to bike all the way to the glacier and then have DH and son drive down, walk around the glacier for awhile and drive us all home but son fell asleep before that could happen...so i just rode down for awhile and came back...calories are at 1155 so far today and 101 carbs but i do plan on eating one more thing tonight

have to book airline tickets tomorrow for my older son come home!!! yay!! he's been up north with his dad all summer...he will have to fly from the town to the big city, switch flights in the big airport, and fly down here from there...i think he can do it, he's 13 and has his phone with him but still....my dad said that he would love to fly to the big city with my son and help him get on the next flight...so he's going to do that...three more weeks and my son will be home!!

it's easier having him gone now that he's older though...it used to be sooo hard to have him away...but he's older and more independent now, plus i have other kids around the house to keep me busy and distracted so it's easier on me...i like to keep busy so i dont worry etc...

time to paint my nails and toenails purple and hop in the shower...

oh dear.....we are going to the new pool in town tomorrow...most likely with several children, only one of which is ours...and i will be wearing my swimsuit...i can fit it, i know, and i'll feel decent doing so but still....

EDIT: wowww the swimsuit doesnt fit...it's TOO BIG!!...i mean wayyyy too big LOL! the last time i wore it, i dunno a few years ago or more, it was so tight that the chest part was like a sports bra and it was hard to get on...just now i took it off because i thought i had it on wrong because it was so loose! the butt is so loose that it doesnt conceal anything...the chest is so big that my boobs just flop around in there and you can see all the way down when i bend over...i told my sister "maybe it just stretched out after all these years" and she said "it doesnt stretch out by sitting in your drawer for years" lol! there is no WAY i can decently wear that thing out in public and i wont pay $20+ for a new one to wear one time to the pool...looks like it's shorts and tee shirt tomorrow for me

Alaskan those are scary flooding pics on your FB page! My favorite pic however was the deviled eggs. I haven't had DE in years; it's not a dish here in this country. Please post your recipe someday; I want to try yours because they look more visually interesting than the regular yellow mustard kind we used to have in North Carolina...

Good Morning, Everyone! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I got more sleep last night than I did the previous 3 days. :woohoo: I got 7 hours sleep. Of course I would have rather it been more, but I will take it. ;)

I don't know if my current lip situation is a new reaction or just a continuation of the reaction from last weekend. At this point, for my sanity, I am going to avoid all tree nuts, legumes, coconut, peanuts, beans, etc. I lost a lot of water weight over night. That is a sign that my body was definitely reacting to something since last weekend.

When I was in weight loss mode, these reactions would be so upsetting for me. I would think that my body was turning against me and gaining weight for no reason. I would also think that I was doing something wrong, although I was doing the same thing I had been doing all along.

Weigh In: 144.4
Down: 2.4 pounds of water weight, crazy stuff!

Eeeep I never got around to my check in yesterday. I weighed in at 286.6 yesterday, this morning I'm 287.6

I think I'm gonna change my signature to reflect my gain. That one pound must have been a fluke. : (

I'm still sticking to my calories and I'm off to run this morning--yesterday was my rest day, so I swam instead--but boy, in three weeks of extremely hard work I really would like to see a positive shift. Maybe I should be measuring myself instead.

It's not even close to my TOM or anything!
:( :( :(

Hope everyone else is having more success than I am. I'm about to go to my doctor, grab him by the lapels, and give him a good shake while hollering, "WHAT..*sob*...IS....WRONG....WITH...MEEEEEEE!?"

Just, you know. So he can take out a restraining order. ;)

Be good, hope you're all having more success than I am recently!

Mojojuju Good Morning. I am sorry that you are having a rough time of it. I have been very busy and dealing with a lot of stuff so I haven't been able to keep up with everyone. What is your daily calorie range? What is your carb/protein intake?

berryblondeboys

Alaskan It's getting a little looser from you getting smaller, but mostly it's the elastic in the swimsuit is deteroriating - even with just sitting in a drawer. Unless you've lost like 150 pounds a swimsuit won't go from too tight to hanging like that. I've lost about 80 from my highest weight and my swimsuit STILL didn't hang like that. It was too loose to wear, but not saggy. Saggy means the rubber has dried up (like a rubber band that sits in a drawer will snap and be brittle).

Diana3271 I'm not an expert on nut allergies, but I know a lot of people allergic to peanuts and they are similar enough to tree nuts that there is often a crossover allergy, but I have never heard of someone being allergic to legumes as well as peanuts. And I just looked it up and that tends to be true for most people. http://foodallergies.about.com/od/nutallergies/f/peanutsandsoy.htm. I know you are trying to find an answer and it must be very frustrating, but giving up all those foods for naught seems a bit too much because how will you then pinpoint - is it peanuts, or is it tree nuts, or is it legumes?

But nice whoosh!

K9owner Have a nice trip despite your hitchhiking friend, TTOM.

Mojojuju I'm sorry the scale is fickle. As you weight more frequently, you may notice you have a pattern of holding water and releasing water. I'm the queen of this and now that I understand it, I don't get as frustrated, but it can be hard when you are working hard and not seeing the expected results. Just rest assured, it WILL happen though. If you find it doesn't, go get a physical. It could be your thyroid (numbers should be under 3.0 unlike the old 5.0 and specialists like it closer to 1.0).

____________________

And speaking of holding water weight, my body is in day two of my monthly water shedding. Down 1.2 today to bring me to my all time low! Woohoo!!! Now the remainder of this watershed is all new territory and I'm now less than a pound from losing 60 pounds! Woohoo! Can't wait!

Berry Congrats on the 1.2 pounds! How is your DS doing this morning? Actually peanuts are in the legume family. So if you have an allergy to peanuts you could react to other legumes, too. I am just going to avoid it until I get the results from the allergist. I don't consume much in those food families anyways. Heck, if I can avoid everything in the mustard family the other should be pretty easy. ;) :D

Update: weighed myself after my run, and apparently I sweated off 3 lbs. Woah! 284.5?!

That's it, I'm deciding to only weigh myself once a week, or maybe two weeks. I have never weighed myself with such frequency before, the water roller coaster is gonna drive me mad! :dizzy:

So Diana, Thanks for the hugs!! I am really tall, so I take in about 2280 calories each day, cycling up to about 2700 to 2500 on my two high days per week. According to my little online calculator, that's about right for weight loss at my weight and activity level (45-60 mins cardio 6 days a week). It seems high, but a friend who is a personal trainer said I could go as high as 3000 per day and still lose weight. Believe me, I'm huge. My title is not really a joke, lol! When I was 12, I was the same height, a ballet dancer and a swimmer. I weighed 165, solid muscle.
I don't measure grams of protein, I try to just have some protein and some healthy carbs with every small meal (once every two hours or so). Stuff like Kashi, grapefruits, yogurt with a scoop of protein powder, eggs, yadda yadda. No breads or white flours whatsoever--that stuff might as well just be candy bars for me the way it goes straight to my butt! Do you measure your protein/carb ratio?

alaskanlaughter: WOW ON THE BATHING SUIT! DOESN'T THAT FEEL GREAT?! I wish I knew how to make one of those little cheerleader emoticons for you, haha!

Btw, I can't tell you how much I enjoy your Alaskan tidbits! It really sounds like you love where you live, and reading your posts is sometimes like reading a travel journal. :) You and your family seem really fortunate in your choice of locale!

BerryBlondeBoys: I hope your poor kid finally starts feeling better! And thank you for the kind words. I've decided that I'm going to weigh once a week. I also think I'm going to start measuring. I can FEEL how much better my body is with this regimen--I have more energy, I feel more positive, and my calves are like ROCKS at the moment, heh! I really could be building just enough muscle week to week (My program keeps increasing in difficulty) to keep my body retaining water to heal the torn muscles. How long would you say I should wait till I go see a doc? Five weeks? Six? Maybe things will even out and start slowly moving down by then and I can stop worrying, lol!

Diana3271

Mojojuju I don't track carbs/protein, but I try to avoid a lot of the starchy carbs high sugar foods. When I eat those foods, I start having cravings and have a harder time losing weight. I try to eat a good amount of protein. It seems to keep me satisfied and helped with weight loss. Depending on the weekly calorie deficit it may take some time. I would think you could easily lose in the 2200-2500 calorie range. I would say keep with your program for a month an analyze from there. I put your info in a calorie calculator (although I don't know your age) and it gave an estimate of 2350 to lose. I put your activity level in the mid-range because you are looking for a deficit. It seems like you are pretty close on target. I would just give it some time.

Hey everyone! Popping in again on my DH's computer- mine is still not working. :-( I hope to get it fixed soon. Despite not being able to check in with all you wonderful people every day, I've continued to stay on plan and am back down to 166. That's one pound higher than my lowest weight, so I'm getting pretty excited. My main problem (which I'm sure you guys share) is getting enough water in this heat to keep me from retaining.

I'm loving staying home with my son. It feels so good to spend my days with him, playing and resting and just... being together. He's growing so fast and I'm really treasuring this time. I'm also cooking from scratch more, more fresh and simple, less boxed and processed. DH is getting really spoiled with me being home as well. :-) He's not used to this kind of cooking. Only made it to the gym once this week but I'm okay with that- so much of our time is very active, so I'm exercising, just not formally. It hasn't seemed to affect my weight loss at this point, though I'm going to try to do better next week regardless.

we had a blast at the new water park/pool today....DH and i took our son and his cousin, which is his best friend...none of us had been there before and his cousin normally cant go in water because of tubes in his ears...but the tubes are out until next month so he could go!...we spent 3 hours there...i wore a itty bitty pair of shorts and a very tight long tee-shirt and, once in the water, it all clung to my body anyhow...i'm sure just as tight and revealing as a swimsuit would be...but i didnt really care...however i'm glad i lost those 20 something pounds over the last months because i WOULD have cared if i was that much heavier, strange as that is

it was a strange day for eating...i alternated between not being hungry at all this morning and being starvinggggg after the pool, then not hungry for a long time, and then starvinggg tonight...calories ended at 1745 plus a small piece of cake and carbs at 220 plus that piece of cake...WAY high on carbs but it was entirely due to cherries and an apple...i'm starting to let myself eat more fruit...i reallyyyy like it....so somehow i got a little off track today with the eating....forgot to take any vitamins, didnt do my hand weights and didnt ride my bike but i DID do alot of walking in the water, as well as arm resistance moves that i remember from water aerobics...maybe that counts for something

and i also got hit with a BAD stomach bug tonight too, like instantly out of the blue...omg!....dont know what's up with that...so im off to bed...

Melissa Comgrats on your new low yesterday, you have been on a roll!! So glad that your son's fever broke!!

Diana3271 I hope they get to the bottom of your allergies soon. Being allergic to all the food you can eat is a heck of a way to lose weight!!

shishkeberry Congrats on the NSV

MzJuicyD - Wow 4 pounds that is great! Congrats.

still - Yes getting enough water in the heat can be a problem. I also struggle with it because my cardiologist instructs me to only drink when I am thirsty/

LGW - Hi

Mojojuju - You are doing great!! Keep it up. I am intrigued by yout location. I moved to Brooksvill, FL two yeas ago but I have not heard of a [lace called H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks, FL

alaskanlaughter I am glad you had a great time at the waterpark with your family!! No fair trying to lose weight by getting a stomach bug!! In all seriousness I hope you are better today. My DW spent all day yesterday with a stomach bug and she wore a pathe in the carpet to the bathroom. She was better last night so hopefully ir is over.

Hi Everyone!

alaskanlaughter I'm glad you still had fun at the water park although you don't swim. We have several water parks here and I haven't been to any of them. :o I hope you are feeling better this morning.

Larry Ha Ha! I just eat more of what I *think* are safe foods. ;)

Weigh In: 144.4
No Change
TTOM started yesterday, so I was glad not to have a gain this morning. Hopefully things will calm down some. ;)

Diana3276 You're so good at keeping it consistent.

Hi, I'm back again from my week in Spain.
I had some NSV. I managed to fit myself into a UK size 10. Great, because I started out wearing 14 when I moved to England.
I noticed that being in better physical shape made the heat more mangeable. The thermometer displayed 47 degree celsius in the sun. HOT
I noticed that I can no longer eat the same amounts of food. I can't take eating only unhealthy food longer, I need healthy food or I feel sick.
I bathed in my bikini and I felt okay about walking around in a bikini. There is something liberating about walking around less clothed around people. No one looked, no one stared, no one cared. I think my binikni angst was in my head. Before my travel, I was determined not to wear a bikini because I felt I should be perfect to wear one. Crazy.

IsabellaOlivia Hi and Welcome back. We went out of town for the 4th of July to a beach. No one seemed to pay attention to the other people (very large or small) or even me for that matter. I think a lot of those negative voices are just in our head and not what is reality or really even going on around us. I am glad that you enjoyed yourself and felt comfortable in your bikini.

Hi everyone! I have had a busy weekend, did great and stayed on track. I just got my Sonoma diet book in the mail and started reading it last night. Today is my 6th day and I feel good and even feel lighter :) I weigh in tomorrow :)

Hi Kids!!!

I feel the need to run in here and get a group hug! Bring it in, people!!! :grouphug:

So I am UP some random water. 185.6 Can you believe that??

I was down a bit yesterday to a fabulous new low of 183.2. Went to my friend Brenda's house so the kids could play and had 3 homemade choc and PB brownies , 3 homemade choc chip cookies. They were SOO...GOOOOOD! I didn't take my medication yesterday because it keys me up for a good 12 hours and I could definitely feel a difference from not taking it. I had a horrible supper of a pb&j which of course wasn't nearly enough to fulfill me. Later on, I ended up having a stuff chicken breast and then went to bed. No wonder I gained. LOL Truth be told, I expected it. After all of those losses this week and TOM is right around the corner. I feel that he may have sent his monthly bag of water in early.

No worries. I am on plan and getting lots to drink. We have a great day ahead of us of doing chores and errands. Maxwell has decided to start our day off with attitude so that will mean that the house if going to get nice and clean today. :)

Melissa: :cp: what an achievement! Bravo!
60 pounds lost!!!!! Woohoo!!!!

and..glad your son if feeling better! It's almost as hard on us as it is on them when they are sick.

alaskan: sounds like a great family fun day! Good for you all...sorry about the tummy bug :( I hope it's gone and you are feeling way better today!
I totally get what you are saying about buying a bathing suit. I have an old one that I hate...the way it goes around my neck hurts, and it's too big in the butt. But I get in the water 2-3 times per year so I am having a hard time justifying spending the money on new one until this one is unusable.

still: thanks the encouragement :) My workplace is aweful when it comes to food. I say we are like a swarm of locusts when something sweet is brought in. Christmas time is the worst. Patients bring us so much food. And even when I was shoveling it in I was picky about what I'd eat. I'd take a bite of something and if it didn't taste great I wouldn't eat the reset. Problem was there was so much that tasted great! But I just have to stick to my guns. This is about my health not about conformity.

And congrats on being a SAHM. I'm glad you are enjoying it so much! I stayed home with my boy for 4 years and I am so grateful to have been able to do it.

LGW: great job!

The scale was kind to me yesterday and granted me a 2 pound loss to a new low of 220!!:carrot: Almost into the two teens!! :D
Larry,

YAY Larry :) And a belated Happy Birthday :) Glad you had a great one!

MzJuicyD: you are doing fabulous!!

shishke: awesome NSV :high five:

Diana: hope you are able to get to the bottom of your food allergies soon :( Also glad to hear Magnum has been having good days recently. I wondered how he was doing with all of this heat.

Mojojuju: Looks like you are already getting great advice on here from people with long term success, so I'm just gonna say, hang in there!

K9 hope you're having a great time despite TOM

When I was in weight loss mode, these reactions would be so upsetting for me. I would think that my body was turning against me and gaining weight for no reason. I would also think that I was doing something wrong, although I was doing the same thing I had been doing all along.

Even without allergic reactions it can be so hard not to feel this way seeing the fluctuations on the scale. This is why I try very hard to only stick to 1 official weigh in for the week. I do weigh every day, sometimes twice a day, but I tell myself those "don't count". So far it's worked, but we'll see the first time my "official" weigh in is a gain when the others have shown a loss. So much psychological stuff tied in with all the physical stuff. My favorite part of 3FC..knowing I'm not the only one with these "crazy/weird/insert adjective of your choice that makes one feel alone" thoughts and feelings.

abbysue: I missed you :) Glad it's just computer problems. Sounds like you have a solid plan that will allow you to keep making positive changes for you and to still take care of your little man :) They do grow up so fast...my boy is 13 now and my "baby niece" just turned 4.

JuhIR: congrats on a successful first week :) 3FC rocks, glad you found it!

Vixsin: yay on breaking the plateau!!

vixsin
I did it! I made it to 243.8. I need to lose .8, but I'm counting it! 40#s down! And going. :)

YAY Mamakat!! :woohoo:
And I know what you mean about wanting to be a good example. I am very open and honest with my son about my childhood and how it has effected the person I am today. So in some ways I am a great example of how someone can overcome obstacles, but also, I want to be a "normal" good example and I am working my way there :)

Congrats on the 6lb loss! And I like your headspace. I feel like I am there this time around too. It's a good feeling for sure :)

Ibell69 and SarRawrNaomi and Abigail: Welcome!

zoodoo  sorry about your stress! I hope the weekend has seen you feeling better all around.

Isabella: good for you on the bikini :) I hope someday to feel less self-conscious about clothing/bathing suits..I do it (tank tops, 1 pieces, NOT bikinis :) ), but I feel self-conscious about it.

Time for brunch. My tummy is growling loudly. I have to say I really like that..not that I want to starve myself or anything, but it feels good to feel actual hunger and it's not as bad as the "hunger" from cravings.

Something funny . . . I eat very different from my family. As all of you know by now, I am a big eater. I love breakfast. I love veggies. I had leftover stewed zucchini and tomatoes from dinner last night. I put grilled zucchini in my omelets on a regular basis. I drained the stewed zucchini/tomatoes really well. DH came into the kitchen and was squawking and going on about how awful my breakfast is. :D He eats pretty badly for being a diabetic. He took out his "breakfast of champions" as he calls it, Krispy Kreme Junior Crullers. Then he tested his sugar, it was 135. He was still yacking about my breakfast and getting on my nerves. I had already had my 2 big mugs of coffee w/cream + sugar. I decided to test my sugar. I had not eaten yet but did have the cream/sugar. My sugar was 65. DH about freaked. I told him to eat his "breakfast of champions" and I will eat mine. I have to tell you, my omelet with zucchini, tomatoes, and feta was delicious. The high fiber English muffin with cinnamon and blueberry preserves were damn good, too. ;) Oh well. We are all different.

GRRRR I made an entire post and have no time to redo it

In a nutshell, I am having a BLAST in :sunny: Florida, and I am going to try to be good this week with eating.

I started my morning with a run on the outside strip for 450 cals :carrot:
And I’m about to go hang out on the beach soaking up some :sunny:

When time permits, I will do personals. But as you can imagine—I am on the go go go!

Hope everyone has a FABULOUS OP day!

Weight is holding at 150, despite TOM pestering me! Hope he's gone by Monday!!

For what it's worth, your breakfast of champions is what I would eat and my husband would eat and skip the zucchini and my older son would choose it too. (Though the 6 year old would not). But way to go on the 65 for blood sugar!!! That's less than HALF of what your husband's is!

Well, my son felt well all day yesterday - saying his throat was feeling better and better too and same with this morning. yay!!! So, we are readying ourselves for vacation tomorrow! We've switched around the order a bit - we'll do Boston first as my husband has a conference, and then we'll go to our family's place in CT.

I'm glad we switched it around as this way we missed traveling and vacationing when it was blistering hot AND I got to see part of my monthly whoosh at least to know that yes, indeed I am losing this cycle.

DId Zumba this morning and either this instructor chooses easier stuff or I'm getting more fit and feel I work less hard in zumba than I did in the beginning. I think this was the instructor who chose easier songs (she's a bit chubby too, so maybe it's at the level she can teach?) I've had her once before and the last I felt 'eh' about the workout too.. if I'm remembering her correctly - and I think I am.
