It's the middle of July and I'm almost through the 15 lbs. in July challenge. :carrot: Now I'm setting my sites on a longer larger goal...

To lose 50 lbs. by January 1, 2012

It's a lot, I know, but if we give it our very best the worst that could happen is we fall a few pounds short. In that case it's still a win win.

So, who's with me?

Post start weight, goal weight or just add a new ticker. Post how you intend to get to the magic 50 and a little about what keeps you motivated.

I'm starting at 199, today, and my goal is 149. I intend on reaching this lofty goal by continueing my IF lifstyle and burning as many calories per week as possible (with a goal of 500 calories per day).

I am motivated by boxes and boxes of "skinny" clothes that have been packed up for far too long and by my son who will turn 1 in December. I want to be in the pictures at his first birthday and not hiding behind other people.

I'm in! I was 223 this morning, so my January 1, 2012 goal is 173. This is actually in my margin of 'final goal' weight, or at least within 13 pounds of it (we'll see when I'm there!

I really need this extra motivation, so I'm very excited for this long-term challenge.

Welcome Chelsea!

50 pounds is within 10-15 lbs. to my goal as well. Like you said, we'll se when I get there. Who knows with this new mommy body. ;) Hopefully after we get to 50 we can cheer eachother on for the last 10ish :cheer:

What are your plans on getting there? I'm always interested in what causes success for others.

I want in ladies!! I always like the long-term challenges! I was down to 214lb two weeks ago, but seriously fell off the wagon! My weight this morn is 220lb. I'm in desperate need of some new motivation. Yesterday was better, today has been good so far.

Fifty pounds down will put me at my goal weight, 170-175. So far, I've lost about 70lb by eating sensible portions of healthy foods. Lots of veggies and proteins, light on the carbs, but not nearly low-carb. I've been calorie counting and logging the whole time too. Until a week ago, I was jogging/weights 3 times a week, so I need to get back on that too!

This is perfect timing to get me back into my good habits! Thanks!

Start Weight (7/13/11) = 220lb
Goal Weight (1/1/12) = 175lb (or 170!)

This would be great for me! I'd love to be able to take family photos without feeling embarrassed at holiday time!
My other motivation is being able to find clothes I really love and feel good in them.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!

Jen, I agree, I need long term challenges in addition to the small challenges. This should help us stay focused. Congratulations on your already great loss!:bravo:

Cinlo, I'm totally there on the photos! Last Christmas I was 3 days post partum and had suffered severe swelling at the end of my pregnancy...I was NOT a pretty thing to have in thos holiday shots. I hope to look drastically better this Christmas...maybe even want to JUMP into a few shots. :yay:

Michelle, I'm all about the weight loss math, that's what get's me motivated. It doesn't always pan out the way I figure it will but it keeps me pumped to keep going. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate 3days of 1,000 calorie burn into my week. It's a lot but if I do it it will be almost 1 pound of loss not including my other 500 calorie days and the dieting. Whatever it takes to stay motivated :D

Welcome, Alsten! I see you already made a new ticker...Awesome! Just seeing the number 50 lbs. less makes me smile. I went through my old "skinny" pictures yesterday for some inspiration and got out a pair of jeans that fit me at my 50 pound goal... It's not going to be easy, but it doesn't have to me super hard either. At least if we are here to support eachother we can weather the storms of cupcakes and lazy days together. :)

Although my goal is 41 pounds - to do it by new year would be amazing!

I have never dieted before so this is my first proper diet. I have been on it for 3 weeks and lost four pounds already. I am following my own meal plan which includes 5 portions of fruit/veg per day and four pints of water, low carb and as much excercise as I can manage working full time and having two young children.

I have to fess up that I weigh myself everyday which I know alot of people dissagree with but it works for me and keeps me motivated.

Good luck to everyone.

Alsten, Way to Go!:cheer2: That's a great loss so far. What is your eating plan? A few years ago my doc thought I may have PCOS and I did a ton of research online and found that losing weight can help decrease the symptoms. Also, there is a diet specifically designed for women with PCOS... I just tossed all my printouts (I don't have PCOS) but I bet if you googled "PCOC diet" you might be able to find some more helpful tips to aide you in your weight loss and recovering your health.

Welcome Shera! 30 is a grat motivator;) My hubs wants to lose his tummy by his 30th in September.I'm sure like most men, he'll just skip a snack a day and lose 20 pounds in a month :p. I too am striving to be fit by 30, but my timeline is more like fit by 28...then have another baby and hopefully not let myself go so that recovery is easier the next time.

Michelle That sounds like a great plan. Take it easy on your joints, you'll need them to get to our goal. :)

Also, I think we definately need to be acountable for our weigh in days. Whatever day that is needs to be posted. I think Mondays or Tuesdays would be a great time to do a structured check in since the weekends can be rough and get rougher the closer we get to the holidays. I think I'll leave this thread open to newcomers until this weekend (even then, it shouldn't be too hard to catch up) and then I'll post a structured layout that can easily be copy/pasted with stats.

Welcome dcapulet! What is your strategy. I see you've already lost 34 lbs. That is a huge accomplishment and a wonderful motivator to keep going. Great job!:carrot:

Welcome to the challenge Theresa! Congratulations on your loss already. It sounds like your paln is working for you. I also weigh myself every day so don't worry about that. I do it because of salt. I am highly sensative to salt and food additives and I like to know what foods cause me to gait inflamation and water weight so that I can avoid them in the future.

I don't have any specific plan :P Just keeping lower on the carb side, more protein etc .. love eating eggs morning, it ties me over easily til lunch. I do find adding more protein works best for myself .. lots of water.. I can't plan out my meals though, I HAVE to eat what I'm craving at that moment etc just healthier choices of course .. the hardest thing for me is the exercise lol only starting with around 20 min for now, as time goes on ill try to add more of course. I've only lost 5 lbs so far, even though ticker says 20 :P there was a bit of break where I stopped, but didn't end up gaining it back so I just left it, makes me feel a lil better anyways when I see a 20 there heh

Sounds like a good plan AmberJae... Mondays or Tuesday would be great. Keep me accountable through the WHOLE weekend! :D I like that everyone already seems so positive!

After a week off track, I was back on yesterday. Feels soooo good not to wake up all bloated and full from late night eating. What was I thinking?? :dizzy:
I'm a bridesmaid for a wedding in a week. I'd like to get rid of this extra water weight by then! Three full meals and 2 snacks a day -- NO grazing!! Lots and lots and lots of water. And back to the gym tonight -- no excuses! :o

eh was up 1.2 this morning :?: I didn't do anything different at all and even exercised yesterday, but I know I'm bloated... I can't figure out why though.. watching my salt in take, I cut back a lot on my diet sodas/processed food etc .. its not that time of month lol I rarely have to deal with that .. just wish I knew, so I could change something.. my eating has been really good though, little discouraging lol

I think Monday would be a great weigh in day too...I know I was slacking this whole week. Then tomorrow I have a wedding to go to... There is always Sun :)

AmberJae: I think we should put together some sort of "about me" up once we get the whole group finalized...I can always throw one together. I might even have one saved from way back when. We might as well get to know each other well since we have 6 months of this.

TConns: You need to be registered on this site for 30 days and have the min of 25 posts in a month to get a signature and ticker.

alsten: my weight jumps a lot too, it can depend if I had too much sodium or even drank water too late at night. Don't stress it.

I would love to join! I have a large amount to loose and would love a longer goal to keep me moving forward! I also like hearing how other people are making it work for them and ideas. I run into the NO TIME problem, so that even when I am motivated I just physically run out of time YIKES So this would be a great way to be accountable!! WOO HOO

Alsten: I weigh every day too, but I only track it once a week. I like to see the daily variances though. It took awhile for me to get to the point where the daily changes didn't screw with my head! I think of it as a rolling average now. I've also heard that exercise can give you an immediate slight increase because your muscles hang on to extra water as they repair themselves.

Weighed in this morning 3lb down this week -- yay! And I did hit the gym last night... way brutal after taking 2 weeks off. :( I did my four strength exercises (hammer curls, tricep extension, push ups and sit ups) and I managed 15 minutes on elliptical and 25 on the treadmill for a total of 3.2 miles. Way shorter, slower and harder than when I last went! Why do I always have to learn things the hard way!? :dizzy:

I guess we're weighing in tomorrow...aurgh! I went to a wedding last night and since I NEVER get to drink and the kids were at my mom's over night...me and Captain Morgan got friendly. I can safely say I already blew my weigh in without getting on the scale.

Ok ladies, I apologiize for my tardiness. I have no idea where the weekend went. I meant to post this form earlier so we could all use it for our weight in's. Anywho, it's up now. Also, I like the idea of positing a brief bio, so we can all get to know a little about one another and understand eachothers struggles a bit better. I haven't done one yet but hopefully we can post them with our first check in.

Also, I'd like to welcome the new, newbies to the challenge. I have yet to go back through what I missed this weekend but WELCOME!

Hello to all!! Let's get started!
Quick Bio: I'm a high school teacher, in my early 30s. Not married, no kids. I've been overweight my entire life, particularly post high-school, it's a family trait. I hit a high weight of 288lb last August (2010) and decided to do something about it. Prior to that I had managed to lose like 20lb a few times, but no serious weight loss. I knew I needed a complete overhaul of my habits. I wanted to be healthy, not just lose weight. I had frozen food delivered for 8months through BistroMD -- that reprogramed my ideas about food, types of food, portion size, etc. Now I make and freeze my own food. I log calories for everything I eat on my blog, along with recipes and random paragraphs of my observations. :) I lost about 70lb in the last year. I started walking in February and now, just 6 months later, I jog the majority of my miles. I was amazed at how quickly my ability to jog increased, both muscle-wise and cardio-wise. I've plateaued the last 2-3 months around 220 and I'm ready to get serious again and finish this thing! Looking forward to getting to know you all...

And AmberJae, you left yourself out! That gives us a potential loss of 600lb!

50 lb. Challenge Check in
~Last week's NSV: My dad happened to be at the gym at the same time I was and he (who is rarely complementary) says "Wow, you even look like a runner now." :D
~This week's struggles: My brother is getting married on Friday... that means tons of family. Many who haven't seen me since I lost weight. Tons of food and alcohol at rehearsal/ceremony dinners. AND I have to wear a bridesmaid dress.
~This week's fitness goals: 3 trips to gym, 10 - 12miles.
~Last week's fitness achievements: Back at the gym after a lapse, 2 workouts, 8miles.
~This week's diet goals: On track each day, don't go overboard at brother's wedding on friday. Think about what I'm eating.
~Last week's diet achievements: Started logging food/calories again after a 2 week lapse.

I'm up for a 50# loss by the New Year! A little late joining, hope it's not too late ;)

I've been away for awhile and while I did put on weight, I did stop before I gained it all back. Tracker has been reset. I'm ready to go.

My plan: Eat low carb, eat only foods I enjoy, and exercise 30 minutes 5 days a week. I like to swim so I think I can commit to doing that 3xweek. Hubby and I usually go for a long walk (at least an hour) on the weekends and the Y I go to just announced a belly dancing class on Thursdays. If all else fails, I have a treadmill I can walk on.

I realize I got off plan because I starting eating foods I wasn't necessarily enjoying, I was eating too many artificial 'diet foods', I had switched to calorie counting when eating low carb works better for me. Anyway...

Today starts a new day! Hears to success for all of us :carrot:

It's not too late ANewCreation, Welcome! Just go ahead and post your stats with the challenge form and lett us a little about yourself. :) So glad you could join us!

You're right Jen I did forget myself. Plus ANewCreation and we're up to 650 pounds. How exciting. That's over 3 of me :) I also realized that I forgot to add my own bio...

About Me:

I bounced between 145-125 and back to 145 from age 19 to about 23. On and off diets. I would get thin and then go hog wild and gain most of my loss back. When I left my job, in 2007, as a CMA (standing and moving all day) and became my husbands office assistant I gained all the way up to the 160's. Going from standing to sitting made a huge difference. Since most of my diets had just been diets, I had no real lifstyle to fall back on. My weight went up to the 170's and stayed there for about 3 years.

Last year I topped the scale at 185 on my 26th birthday (February). My sister bought me the cutest red dress as a gift but she bought it 2 sizes too small. When I asked her why, she said because she just didn't see me as a size 10/12. I was humiliated but then saw that she was offering me a gift, a gift of motivation.

The next day I embarked on a fitness and eating plan that I could be proud of. I started training with a bootcamp style trainer 5 days a week and started a walk to run program. By April I was down to a very respectable 174. I could see my muscles popping out, I could run for longer than 15 minutes and I felt amazing. One day at the trainers, he made me traine harder than I ever had and didn't allow me to stop and catch my breath. Now, there was a 300 pound woman in our group that had lost 100lbs and I didn't want to let her down by being a weenie. I pushed myself to the brink. When I was done, I felt sick, I sat in my car and felt my HR. I counted...212 bpm... I couldn't get it down. I tried vegal exercises (holding breath, bearing down) I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I visited a cardioligist that week and found out I have supraventricular tachycardia. It means my HR can jump at any minute from normal to abnormally fast. The day after my cardiologist visit I found out I was PG. My OB told me NO ACTIVITY and to keep my HR lower than 130 for the rest of my pregnancy. I was elated and crushed all at once. I went from 180 to 195 in 26 weeks of pregnancy. I was proud of this. I was gaining slowly and healthily.

On my 27th week I was hospitalized due to pre-term labor. I was only supposed to stay one night but I ended up staying 21 days. I was then released to spend the rest of my pregnancy at home on SUPER STRICT bed rest. When I had my son at 37 weeks I tipped the scale at 230 lbs. I was mortified. I BF him until he rejected me (I only made about 1 TBS of milk per feeding:() at around 3 months and at that time I was 218 lbs. I loosely started dieting but because of the weather and my dog getting injured I didn't get outside for excercise until June. In June I started IFing and lost from 205 down to where I am now.198. I've been stuck between 197-197 for two weekd but I am motivated. I am excited.

My son loves to go for walks in the stroller and where I live it is practically hiking when we go for walks. We live on a summer road that is nothing but hills, dirt, and ruts. I am huffing and puffing by the end of our 45min 3.5 miles. I am hoping to start another walk to run program and be able to run in Bloomsday (I have completed 2 Bloomsdays walking so far) and do Warrior Dash and Dirty Dash next year. I have previously wanted to just get skinny but my goals are different now. I want to get fit for myself and for my son. I want to be thin in the photos of his first birthday (december) and to be thin and healthy before we try to have another baby. I also have a closet (well boxes in my closet) FULL of skinny clothes ranging from size 2 to size 10 and I have promised my skinnier sisters that if I don't at least start getting back into them by my next birthday, they can have them ALL. (those two girls have been asking for my skinny clothes since 2007)

Phew, there it is. The recent "about me"

~Last week's NSV: My brother told me my head looked smaller. I gave him a look and he was like, "No, your face got thinner." Lol. He isn't one to compliment so it was nice.
~Last week's struggles: A wedding I went to. I didn't eat too horribly, but I drank. Oh did I drink. I NEVER get to anymore. And the kids weren't coming home until the next day. This all resulted in a 1lb gain. AURGH.
~This week's fitness goals: 5 day cardio/stregnth for 40 min
~Last week's fitness achievements: :( I only exercised for 4 days.
~This week's diet goals: Keep on points and low carb no junk.
~Last week's diet achievements: I did not eat dessert at the wedding :) Or cheese.

Bio: I'm a 29 year old with 2 kids (daughter 7, son 4) and forever engaged. (As in, I have been with my guy since I was 17). When we met, I was 140lbs. You do the math.

My weight always jumped around. I always had issues with food. I went from binging to near-anorexia to using diet pills and other not so legal suppliments in my teens to curb eating and to get high. I exercised like crazy just to get rid of the excess energy.

I gained a lot of weight after having each child, over 25lbs a shot due to some hormone issues that were never taken care of. Then I got depressed from the sudden gains and gave up.

I want to be healthy. I want to be hot again. I miss all the attention I used to get. It was good for my ego, I suppose. I turn around and wonder where my 20's went. I don't want to be spend my 30's fat. I want to be a positive role model for my kids :)

NEW YEARS DAY:

Last week's NSV: After being off the wagon for the last 6 months, I recommitted to getting back on track.

Last week's struggle: Did not go to the Y to swim but once, but I did take an hour long walk with the hubby over the weekend.

This week's fitness goals: 5-30 minute exercise periods. Swimming 3x week. Walking for at least 30 minutes this week. Try the belly dancing class on Thursday :o

Last week's fitness goals: swam once, walked for one hour over the weekend.

This week's diet goals: Decrease the amount of desserts I eat (even though they are low in calories, sugar free, etc). Increase the 'whole' foods while eliminating more processed foods.

Last week's diet achievements: I threw out all of my 'diet' junk food. I was overeating, thus defeating the purpose!

Bio: I am 50 years old, happily married, mother of three grown sons, and a SAHW. My husband and I enjoy traveling whether it's a 'stay-cation' or out of state.

I started losing weight about two years ago after my doctor diagnosed me as pre-diabetic. Did well (lost 60+ #'s), then last Christmas derailed  Gained back 22 #'s.

I took swimming lessons last year and this has been the one physical activity that I actually enjoy. I tend to lead a sedentary life (even as a kid, I preferred reading to playing outside). My goal is to try to move more and just try different classes at the YMCA, to see what else I might like. If nothing else, the variety will keep me from getting bored :carrot:

I look forward to getting to know all of you. Best wishes  to all of you. Thanks for including me!

50 lb. Challenge Check in
~Last week's NSV: Sort of a SV... I FIT into my bridesmaid dress. And I got tons of compliments. :D
~Last week's struggles: Getting to the gym. :( SO busy with wedding/family.
~This week's fitness goals: 3 trips to gym, 10 - 12miles.
~Last week's fitness achievements: Only one trip to the gym, but I did rock it! 2.3mi on the elliptical was easier than normal and I jogged 2.5miles without walking in about 27minutes. Walked the cooldown.
~This week's diet goals: Eat full meals on schedule, no grazing. Be conscious of hunger levels.
~Last week's diet achievements: REALLY stayed away from snacks. Tried to be super conscious of whether I was eating for hungry or social activity. Did pretty well even on days with Mexican feasts (rehearsal dinner) and BBQ (wedding dinner). Had a few drinks, but not excessive. Never went over 1900cal or below 1400. Really pleased with eating this week!

~Weigh ins
Week 1: 217.5 (Down 4lb, but mostly water weight as I burned off the pounds I'd gained back the previous 2 weeks. It won't be that high every week! )
Week 2: 212 (Down 5.5lb, which is too much for one week. But it was a busy week and the end of TOM. Some was water weight. ?? I haven't lost that much in one week since the very beginning of my loss. :o)

50 lb. Challenge Check in

On the whole, I'm pleased with how last week went. I am trying to get away from calorie counting, diet type foods, and too many desserts. I'm trying to focus on whole foods, only eating what I truly love in appropriate portions. My goal is to get in 2 1/2 hours of exercise each week, whether that's 30 minutes a day or the week's total.

This is going to be a busy week for me and I'll probably weigh in on Saturday and post results for the following week that day because I'm going to be out of town celebrating my 25th Anniversary :carrot:, Sunday through Tuesday. We're going to Disneyland, where I'm pretty sure I'll be able to not only stay on plan but get in more than enough exercise with all the walking around we'll be doing.

Congrats to everyone on their losses!!!

~Last week's NSV: After slipping on Saturday, I got right back on track on Sunday.
~Last week's struggles: Major binge on Saturday evening.
~This week's fitness goals: Basically, 30 minutes of exercise 5x a week.
~Last week's fitness achievements: While I didn't workout 30 minutes 5x a week, I still managed to hit my target goal of 2 1/2 hours of exercise for the week by getting in a one hour walk on Saturday.
~This week's diet goals: Eat whole foods, manage portions, drink 64 oz of water every day.
~Last week's diet achievements: Except for my Saturday binge, I was on target.

So, we have som new "faces" joining us on the challenge. A great big WELCOME to Mommy1028, sarahxsimon and HeyHeyGabby. We are now up to 16 challenger. That's a total of 800 pounds we will lose. Hmmm, 800 lbs... Pretty incredible.

Congratulations on your losses so far. We're off to a great start. Great job, Jen, weddings can be such derailers.

50 lb. Challenge Check in
~Last week's NSV: Last week's NSV is R Rated... I was able to do a certain difficult and very aerobic...Ahem...sex possition and not huff and puff like I would have a month ago. Afterwards, my husband said, "Holy cow, working out is seriously making you strong, I can't believe your legs aren't mush right now." Hey, it's a bit TMI but it's exciting to be able to me getting stronger even if the scale isn't moving as fast as I'd like it to.
~Last week's struggles:My joggin stroller got a flat tire on Monday. I walked with it flat on Tuesday but for fear of ruining it, didn't use it for the rest of the week. My husband took the DVD player somewhere and I couldn't do my DVD's so I kind of gave up on fitness from Wednesday on. I did take my son to town to "shop/walk" twice, so I got in some movement but no real cardio.
~This week's fitness goals: My husband and I are preparing to start the GSP Rushfit program. We spent all weekend watching before and after videos. His 30th birthday is at the end of September and he wants to get fit (for the first time in his life) before the big party. I just want to get fit, but it would be awesome to get in shape for the pictures that will surely be happening at the weekend long party we are hosting. So, in preparation, I will be doing losts of burpees, squats, crunches and push-ups this week.
~Last week's fitness achievements: I burning 1,300 calories on Monday
~This week's diet goals: I need to drink more water. I noticed it this weekend when my BM's were harder. I plan on drinking at least 64 oz. of water before I break fast every day.
~Last week's diet achievements: I ate at a brunch buffet on Sunday and managed to maintain my planned fast the rest of the day and hope to finish that fast today at lunch time.

ANewCreation: Happy Anniversary!! :congrat: That's fantastic! Have a good time in DLand... Don't miss the skewered meats at the stand by Indiana Jones -- that's always my goto, reasonably healthy meal there!

AmberJae: haha! Loved your NSV! Those thigh muscles sure can come in handy, huh!? :D

Chelsea: Good luck with the move! That's always stressful, but CO is sooo beautiful!

Sheramama: Congrats on the jeans! Too bad it's been so hot for you... :( A quick comment on the calorie-counting... I wish that I had done a better job setting a starting point. I dropped straight to 1500cal, but that gave me very little room to drop down as my body got adjusted to the new calorie count. I wish I had tried 2000 first and then adjusted down as necessary. Just my two cents!

And a big :welcome: to Mommy1028, sarahxsimon and HeyHeyGabby!!!

Jen516: Whoo hoo on the bride's maid's dress and the big weight loss. I bet it made you feel like a million bucks. Also, thanks for cal counting tip. It seems like a lot of work to figure this all out, but it might be better for me then WW.

AmberJae: Should I congratulate you or your hubby? Lol. Now, you know you're gonna have to get something sexy to up the ante.

ANewCreation: great job on the weight loss!

It is finally cooler here. My daughter however has had the worst of it and came down with strep :( TG for antbiotics and pain relievers. As soon as the kids are in bed, it is time for me to work out again. Whew.

Jen516
07-26-2011, 02:33 AM
Sheramama: It IS a lot of work to figure it all out!! :D But if you're like me, you tend to eat a lot of the same foods over. Once you figure out the basics, it'll be second nature to cal count. Also, I'd highly reccomend getting a digital food scale. So much more accurate, and I think easier, than using measuring cups or spoons. I'm always looking stuff up online or on packaging. However I also have TONS of things memorized now or written down on a little cheat sheet in my phone. Makes it much quicker!! Calorie counting worked better for me than WW... but I'm also in a better place mentally to lose now than when I did WW, so... ? It's definitely cheaper though!!

Oh, and thanks!! It DID make me feel like a million $ and it was a good week for an ego boost! ;)

Hi everyone, just a quicky to say that i'm doing alright, little blip over the weekend when I made cheesecake with my daughter (say no more) but managed to loose 1.6lb over the week so ok really.

Jen516: Thanks to you, I just ordered a digital scale from amazon. I was just wondering, do you keep track of fat and protein too? Fitday is def helping to keep my list of food. I just have to add so many to custom though.

TConns: Cheesecake is my absolute fav. Good thing I only eat it about 1x a year. (Great job still losing though). I promised the kids we were going to make brownies tomorrow...I have to remember NOT to lick the batter. Or have a taste :( Bad things happen with chocolate.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Jen516
07-28-2011, 02:07 AM
TConns: Glad you're having a good week! Cheesecake IS good, isn't it! I think having a little treat now and then is healthy. As long as it doesn't set me off all crzy!!

Sheramama: You're gonna love the scale... To answer your question: I started by just tracking calories. Then, for a few months, I was tracking calories, fat, protein, carbs, AND sodium! Those months helped me see what my typical meals look like. I try to eat pretty unprocessed, whole foods. Now, As long as I stick with that, the fat, protein and sodium seem to fall into place on their own. I do still watch the carbs, but I don't really track them. Both my parents have developed diabetes, so I try to follow guidelines: 45-60g carb for a meal and like 15g for a snack or 2. Just for comparison, I'm typically at about 160g carbs (though I do occasionally go over), around 50g of fat (mostly good fats, almonds and avocado), and close to 90g of protein. I eat a lot of protein because it sticks with me longer! That's what seem to work for me. However, if this forum has taught my anything, it's that everybody reacts differently!

sheramama
07-29-2011, 07:19 PM
Jen516: Thanks for the info. I figure once I track on fitday for a week, I can really see more of a trend of where my calories are coming from. I want to cut down my carbs more and increase my protein already. My weight is on standstill AGAIN so that might help. I hope.

AmberJae- That's a very sweet NSV :). This is a brand new week, and your goals are just waiting to be met :D. You can do it!

I made it through my first week without any major slips, I'm pretty happy with how much I worked out, and I'm very happy with my weight loss (though it's sorta expected this early in).

I went from 308 to 299.5! So happy to say goodbye to the 300's :D.

And congrats HeyHeyGabby on getting out of the threes!

~Last week's NSV: Forgot my ID when I went out... borrowed one from an acquaintance already inside the bar... Haven't seen her for a year... When I handed her back her ID, she said "wow, you look fantastic. It's a total compliment to me that they let you in on my ID!" ALSO, went on float trip and felt reasonably comfortable in swimsuit AND I was easily able to pull myself back into the boat. That's always kept me from jumping in the river before! :D
~Last week's struggles: Getting to the gym...
~This week's fitness goals: 3 trips to gym, 10 - 12miles.
~Last week's fitness achievements: One real workout: Jogged/Walked 4 miles outdoors & Casual Movement: rode bike to store and back 3 times (9miles total), walked to store to return movie.
~This week's diet goals: Eat full meals on schedule, no grazing. Be conscious of hunger levels.
~Last week's diet achievements: Tough weekend -- out of town friend vistis once a year. Dinner/bar Friday night, river rafting and BBQ saturday, Brunch on Sunday. I'm pretty sure I'm back up to 212 this morn, but refusing to scale! Did okay with food, but drank waaaay to much alcohol. :(

I'm sorry, but I can't wait for the weekend to tell you this week's NSV... I know nothing better is gonna happen! I typically jog on a treadmill and I typically warmup on the elliptical, then jog 2 to 2.5 miles at 5.5mph. That's about an 11-minute mile. Tonight, I went out and ran the streets around my house... I timed the run, but didn't track the distance until I got home. I walked .6mi to warmup, then jogged straight (no walking breaks - that's a big deal for me), jogged straight for 2.3mi in 22 minutes. That's a 9:34min mile!!! :carrot:
I've only been sub-10 minutes once before, for just a mile on the treadmill and it was hard! Tonight, I felt like I still had a bit in me. In fact, I sorta sprinted the last 100 yards to my door! I always assumed the treadmill was easier, but perhaps relying on the set speed is slowing my down! I'm absolutely stunned!!!:dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:

Jen516 That is great! and I understand you totally I try to get my mile under 10 mins every time I train, but rarely achieve it (unless i'm watching Kylie Minogue in concert, then I slash it) :D

I have been really bad training wise lately as my daughter has taken up karate in addition to her swimming so thats four evenings per week that im out with her. I must try and get some hours in the gym this week.

Where's everybody...?

50 lb. Challenge Check in

~Last week's NSV: For being on vacation I thought I did really well, especially in terms of eating. I think I only had one dessert the entire time I was gone. Hubby and I shared some meals, sometimes I ordered a kids meal and sometimes I just ate really healthy meals (I had a wonderful sea bass for our anniversary meal).

~Last week's struggles: Should have worn better shoes, my entire body hurt at the end of each day. But, I got in a miles of walking!!

~This week's fitness goals: I bought some wrist and ankle weights and want to start using them while I'm watching tv in the evenings. I think I should google how effective they can be and the best way to use them....

~Last week's fitness achievements: Should have worn a pedometer, I walked A LOT while we were at Disneyland.

~This week's diet goals: Continue current plan.

~Last week's diet achievements: Passed up dessert while on vacation. IF I'm especially active while on vacation, I use that to justify having dessert.

~Weigh ins
Week 1: 209
Week 2: 206
Week 3: 206

I have to be honest, all the above check in refers to my vacation time. When I got home, I weighed myself, just knowing after being so good and walking so much that my weight would be down. Imagine my shock when the scale registered 212#'s!!!! I am ashamed to admit that I was so mad that I walked away from the scale and downed 3, yes, 3, donuts (my son, who was watching the house for us while we were gone, had left them). I was just livid and for the entire weekend binged like a maniac, thinking what's the point? I was terrified to get on the scale yesterday, thinking I'd probably hit 220 by then but the scale shows that I'm still at 206. What is up with that???? Ack! Well, needless to say I've stopped having my tantrum and I'm back on track. That really isn't like me to do that, maybe I was just too tired from the trip and not able to mentally handle the scale that day, I don't know...

Anyway, how's everyone else doing?

I know this challenge has been running a month already but can I join too? I've got 2 short term goals but it would be nice to have a long term goal too. If I've counted correctly there are 21 weeks left this year and I started my weight loss journey last week so I've already clocked up 3.5lbs. If I can lose an average of 2lbs per week then I'll only be 4.5lbs off 50lbs b January 1st.

Sorry for all the waffle and I hope it's OK to jump onto this challenge late. :D

Ugh... I had a terrible week food-wise and an amazing week exercise-wise, so they almost cancel eacho ther out... except for the fact that I gained like 4lb. :(
It's the week before TOM and I always feel like a ravenous beast that week, PLUS it's the week I start back to work (school teacher), so I'm stressed and eating over that too. :O Didn't eat really bad stuff, just ate a LOT of the decent stuff I'm been eating normally. Feeling really full and bloated the whole week... eeww.
On the plus side, exercise-wise I had multiple NSV. As described earlier, I rocked a 2.3 mi run at a 9:35 pace on Monday. Then, on Wednesday, I jogged with a perfectly svelte friend who goes to the gym and I ROCKED her. Like really kicked her butt! She said "thanks for making me run today." It blew my mind that ANYBODY would ever say that to me! On Friday, I jogged a FULL 5k with no walking at a 10:30pace. I've never gone more than about 2.5mi before, so I was super excited. That had been my goal for an official October 5k race, so now I need a new goal! And THEN, today my brother's friend (who's a 25 year old male and not overweight) was bragging about how he ran 3 miles in 33 minutes... What?! Fool, I could beat that (almost! at least tie!)! I didn't say that outloud of course, but I was sooo amazed that was his time and ppl were complimenting him!
SO, gained weight, but know that it'll drop off soon and rocked the jogging, so not to broken down about it. I DO need to figure out how to handle the whole week before TOM issue. I can't do this every month!!!

My food goals this week are to get back on track with eating to satisfy, not gorge. My fitness goals are to jog three times, total 10miles.

I've been over my head with getting my photography business off the ground and dealing with a teething little one...

~Last week's NSV: I ran. Not just ran like I usually do with run/walk intervals... I ran for 10 minutes straight. It was amazing! I think I had been wraming up too long and too hard.Oh, and I bought a pair of size 12 jeans off the shelf without trying them on...They fit like a glove! They're not the cutesy low-rise I used to wear...they have a "slimming tummy panel" but hey... you win some you lose some.
~Last week's struggles: Getting out to train. It's over 90 degrees and so dang hot.
~This week's fitness goals: To Run twice this week for 10 minutes each.
~Last week's fitness achievements: The running. I'm so impressed. Someone recently told me I wouldn't and shouldn't run until I was under 170... Well, suck it! I am running!
~This week's diet goals: Stay on plan 5 out of 7 days... SBD
~Last week's diet achievements: I stayed OP while TOM was here :)
