We are expected to get 30-50 cm of snow this moring and I am battening down the hatches, so to speak. I got stuck in my driveway (again!) and I am looking for a snow removal guy. I'm telling you, my dh is the laziest (fill in the blank) you've ever seen. I've asked him no less than 50 times (I swear!) to call his friend to find out the name of the guy who plows out his driveway. Grrrr.....MEN!
I'm feeling right as rain again, I'm just one of a cast of thousands to get this damned virus so I feel lucky to be over it rather quickly. Right now the teachers at M's daycare are starting to come down with it (not surprising). Haven't stepped on the scale and don't intend to till Wednesday. I drank orange juice during my illness, but I also ate OP so we'll see what the scale does.
Today is about finishing the laundry and general cleaning. I have finished clearing out the bedroom but since it is going to be too cold to do much. Maybe finish carpet cleaning in there since the carpet is truly gross.
Question: What is the best method of housetraining a dog? I swear we've tried everything and she doesn't get it. I know she's not stupid, so it's the humans who aren't getting it. Help!
Have a good day everyone!

Good Monday Morning to all!
Hope the day is going well for all. Where is everybody? Just another boring Monday here, thank goodness. Volleyball tonight for me.
Ruth ~ so glad you have established the alpha order in your home. It must be so wonderful to have your Hershey home.
Pooky ~ Hope you are feeling better today. How was the Miree / Rosie reunion?
Hi Peachie ~ thanks for the good vibes, I think they helped, or maybe it was the fact that I increased my prozac dosage!
Jif ~ any additional news on the job?
Mamaj ~ Hope things are still getting better for you.
have a great day all!

A quickie as it is Gail Day! The dogs have been out in the fresh snow twice since 7 and are loaded with snow. The kitchen floor is wet so I may just wash the thing. They adore the snow and each other's company!
Because of the snow which is still coming down, I'm staying home this a.m. instead of going to town for my bloodwork. As to the PC, the salesman called Saturday to tell me the CPU was out of stock! Hmmmmm! he will call me tomorrow and if it's still out of stock, I may cancel the cheque. I don't think I'm getting the runaround but will watch out.
Yesterday's Show Handling class put me out of my element! It was full of breeders and professional handlers along with me who has only seen dog shows on TV! I am a show handling virgin! Anyhow, I discovered that I can run - well, trot - with Lucy and also that my walking shoes are too big. I also discovered that the important thing is to have your dog's full attention - Lucy is very social and pays attention to the other dogs, not her Mum. Gotta work on that.
Catch you later and will read yesterday's and today"s posts.

Good Morning!!
chuckie, you are not nuts..........I have a Yankee Candle tart burner. The other day I had Hazlenut Cream burning in it, my middle son came downstairs and told me "why are you tempting me with pancakes." No pancakes, just a candle!! And smells can put you into a crave quickly.
Pooky, potty training for a dog, I'm sure Ruth will be able to help you here. I was a wreck until we had Charley trained, I used to follow him around when he would get up and leave the room. Thank goodness that is over with.
Hi Jenny!!
Took my hubby to the airport yesterday, he is off to London again. Spoke to him this morning, he arrived 2am our time and had to go right into the office.
Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning for me today.
Pooky hope you don't get snowed in.

Morning!
Had the awful flu here yesterday, couldn't keep anything down or in at all. Ewwww. I lost 7 lbs in 12 hours, ick. Stomach is still tender today, am scared to even try coffee or food. TOM decided to show up too, how nice! Praying little guy doesn't get it. I stayed in my bed all day yesterday, dh took over the house chores and cooking. He also went to the drugstore for gravol, pepto and eno's, what a life saver!
I am stiff an sore from being in bed sooo long, dh brought the video camera into the bedroom, as I was wearing 3 layers of cloths and socks on my hands as I was shivering to beat the band, was ssooooo cold, he found this terribly funny, sick man!!
Hoping for a much better day today, my sympathy for all who gets caught by this bug!

Mis - Gail is my wonderful cleaning person who comes every second monday. She is worth twice her weight in gold! The chicks laugh at me but I do tidy up the whole house before she comes - and she appreciates it because she can clean thoroughly. Today for example she will work in a few extra tasks - like cleaning my ivory piano keys! Harry, the dogs and I adore her!
Pook - You sure got an early start today so you must be all better. What's the puppy potty training problem? Did Rosie regress after being a wild dog for a while? Have not seen "Best In Show" because I can't find it in the video places but I hear it is a riot.
Chuckie and Debkay - I get cravings from vanilla bubble baths. It just shows how important our sense of smell is to aour appetites. Maybe we should switch to something vile-smelling. Skunk candles? Chicken poop? Never mind. (Sometimes I gross myself out!) on the other hand, it would be a new craft.
Meowna - I'm so sorry you got the Black Death! Get your DH to go around wiping door knobs, sinks and counters with Javex solution because those germs hang around a while.
This afternoon I intend to tackle that darn sewingroom once again - if it warms up in there! There is no heat outlet in there and it's almost cold enough to be a cold storage if I leave the door closed. I still have odds and ends of mending to do before I start any fabulous sewing project - maybe I'll do a 27 fling in there! If I have not shortened a pair of cords for a year, do I need them? I am going to pack up lots of stuff to send to the shelter in town - it gets very cold out there if you are a street person and I have three winter coats I never wear!
Gail is ready to tackle the kitchen so I will take the doggage out to romp in the snow. The "lad" has not plowed us out yet. It's snowing so hard, there is no point!
If anybody wants snow, Pooky and I can send you some!

Chicks, I to can send some snow. I live in the woods and have a blanket that will last until May.
Remember Ruth, I live in N.S. ;) Yea, and Ruth what are you talking about, egg white noodles? I might as well go crazy looking for these as well as those pork rinds.:?: Thank you, thank you, Pooky, because of the info. I now know what I am looking for, we have Trophy products around here. I was looking for something different. They even had me looking in the meat Dept.. Now maybe I can help you with puppy pee, everytime she eats, or wakes up, take her out. When she goes, outdoors, give her a treat, lots of good girls, or a small treat to eat.
I have been having a hard time staying on program lately. Ever since I had the flu. I can't seem to say no th food!
Must get back on program. Today is my day off so I have done some house work and playing on comp.
Ruth how do you clean paino keys? I thought you just ran a rag over them.

I guess I will never have to worrie about that as I don't have a piano.
Well I am going for now as I am going to do a 27 fling boogie.
love TAzcat

Another sunny day in Buffalo....they seem to be so few and far between, Im really enjoying it.
Hubby wanted to take me to see the new Harry Potter movie this afternoon (its not showing in the evenings anywhere close by) but I think we will do something else instead. We will have to see.
Ive been having a very hard time staying op....and that candle thing gets me too. Last night we were burning tea lights and a couple candles from the store (chocolate mocha) and I was very very hungry, well, hungry in a munchie sort of way, if that makes sense. The scent went all the way up the stairs, and seemed to last a very long time. Aside from the hunger effects, Im glad we sell good candles lol
Pooky, Im glad your feeling better.....and the last thing you need after your weekend is to be out shoveling snow!! The puppy thing, we used to take him out on a schedule, very rarely had any accidents once he got used to going outside, and learned we how to read his "I need to pee" face
I hope everyone had a great day

Hey ladys!
Thought I would pop in and say hi :D
This is my 3rd day of my induction and I have a question...Did you guys get kinda tired the first few days??? I have incorperated 7 grams of carbs for fruit a day to make sure it isnt too little sugar for the bloodstream but I am just so tired today for some reason :dizzy: Just wonderered it this is normal. I have lost 3 pounds in 3 days and 1 inch so I plan to keep this up, Is that too much??? I figure it is just water so I am not too worried, hope you are all having an awsome day and I will check in a little later

Pooky - I can solve you Puppy traning problems in 1 easy step - Send her to Ruth's house. LOL
Meowna - I saw a commercial advertising a network news show on autisim this week. I'm not sure if it was Dateline or 60 Minutes, I'll see if I can find out. I remember they were talking about recent breakthroughs in that area, but I don't remember specifics.
Health Question - Hypothetically if a person gets severe headache in the back of the head/neck area every work day, but not on weekends or evenings, do you think it's caused by stress? And should said person bother their Dr. about these headaches or just kill what's causing them the stress?
RobinW
01-13-2003, 02:56 PM
Definintely stress Dyan......I used to live on Ibuprofen min of 6 a day......I quit the job, and the ibuprofen bottle lasts me months now instead of a week.
Christie....your doing great!! Yes it is normal to be tired in the beginning, your body is adjusting. It usually takes me 3-4 days at the beginning of induction to get myself sorted out...then I have an enormous amount of energy. Keep up the good work!

Afternoon Ladies!!
I was REALLY tired last week at the start of induction Christian, and actually I do have more energy now, but I haven't been putting it to good use:s: My stomach was upset alot too--now though I am on day 9 and my stomach actually feels great! :D
Well, Ruthie Doo aren't you lucky?? I think I do remember you saying you had a cleaning lady on TPAAT--I just forgot maybe??
Pooky-Glad you feel better!!
Meowna--Ditto for you!!:D
Scooby 2--sending healing thoughts your way!!
Well girls, OP so far--I don't feel as though I am losing any though--I have THAT scale, you all know the one, you stand on it and shift your weight up and back one way or the other, and the numbers change--so I have NO idea if I have lost any or not:( Maybe someday I will buy a new scale.

My sympathies go out to all you sickos but I'm going to tell you a story I just heard from my daughter's MIL in S. Africa. A friend of her daughter's who is a Mom to two wee kiddies came down with flu-like symptoms. Within one day she had to be admitted to the hospital. Instead of attacking mucous membranes, this bug attacked her bloodstream. Her blood is literally turning into PUS! Every organ in her body is being infected by her blood and her kidneys shut down. They had to slice open her body in order to drain off fluids. The last I heard (this morning) she was lying near death in the hospital. She's being pumped full of new, clean blood and antibiotics but her distraught husband has already been told that she probably won't make it. So, even though it's miserable and inconvenient to get the regular kind of flu and even the poopy kind, you can count your blessings that you're not in her situation. Oh, by the way, any prayers you can send out on behalf of Cheryl in South Africa would be most appreciated.
Pooky, when training a pup you have to be consistent, just like potty training a child. They go out first thing in the morning and after every drink or meal. When we had a pup, mistakes were punished by his having to go into his box. It got to the point that if we saw him in it in the middle of the day, we knew we had to go looking for his "accidents". He just knew without us saying a word that he was guilty. When he does do his business outside you really heap on the praise and a treat. It doesn't take them long to realize that if they want a treat, they'd better keep the messy stuff outside. We also made sure that our pup learned to do his jobs in one certain area of the yard, which made clean-up a lot easier.
Christian, may I suggest that you forget about the fruit for the time you are on Induction? Try eating extra meat and even FAT. Fat gives you the energy you are missing from sweets. Whip up some cream and sweeten it with Splenda and have it on your diet Jello. Or, take a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter and swirl it through a 1/4 cup of whipped cream. Or soften some cream cheese in the microwave and flavor it with some diet jello granules. Try mixing a teaspoon of real butter into a tablespoonful of crunchy peanut butter. Savour it slowly.
You gals with the scented candles causing food cravings need to invent a candle that smells like grilled steak or fried chicken...or how about frying bacon?
Taz, my fried pork rinds are actually called Bac n Puffs and are made by Old Dutch. I don't know if you have that brand in your area. I found them right by the novelty snack items like pretzels and cheezies. I think the noodles Ruth is talking about are just made from drizzling beaten egg into soup but I could be wrong.
Nearly time to make dinner so I'd better go. Bye for now.

Oh Linda, my thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl and her family!
And thanks for the tips on dog training everyone--basic stuff really, wants to do her messes inside and will "hold" it until she gets inside again even when we are out. I have stopped leaving food out for her at all times and take her out immediately after eating for a walk. I will try the treat/reward thing when she does go outside on our walks. One thing for sure, she's definitely going to fill the exercise quotient of my program!
Here's another question: what do you use to stop pups from messing in the same spot everytime? I am using Pet Care spot and Stain lifter from Bissel on my carpets--both the spray bottle and the shampoo you put in your carpet cleaner. I'm finding about 50/50 results with that but I wonder if there are any "tried and true" methods of deterring remessing? (or am I doomed to poopy hell until she grows out of it?)
TIA!

could i chime in with a puppy training tip? we had real good luck by hanging a bell on the door knob. along with everything that everyone else suggested, when we took the dog out, we rang the bell. eventually, they all learned to ring the bell when they needed to go out.
of course, the smarter ones learned to ring it when they wanted attention too....
and prayers for cheryl. what an awful thing to happen!!!!
