We had a similar thread in June to lose 10pounds by July 1st, some of us lost all the 10pounds, some lost a few while some gained, in it all we were focused and determined!

To continually get support from one another, we've decided to start a similar thread for August.

If you're interested, come and join in, we need your support! All you need do is post your starting weight as at July 1st and your goal weight and weigh in weekly (choose the day most convenient for you). You can share tips on how you're shedding off the weights and even ask for support when it looks like the scales are not moving.

We are counting on everyone's support and hoping that we will faithfully kick off more of the weights in August.

Hey all! You're all welcome, together we can shed the pounds in the next one month. We will all be giving and getting all the encouragement and support that we need, please feel free to share what you're going through, you never can tell, someone else might just be going through the same situation!

One VERY IMPORTANT advice: DO NOT GIVE UP IF IT LOOKS LIKE YOU WON'T ACHIEVE THE 10POUNDS TARGET OR YOU'RE NOT LOSING WEIGHT OR EVEN GAINING WEIGHT, just imagine what would have happened if you were not eating healthy or exercising!

All said, i hope to see you all in the course of this challenge. Like i said in the previous challenge, it's not my thread, it's our thread and we're here for one another.

I would love to join! Today I weighed in at 197.2 but I will do my official weigh in tomorrow, July 1st.

Ok the official weigh-in is 196.4 lbs so 10 pounds would be 186.4...that will be awesome!

I would like to join. I am currently 226 and expect it to to be the same tommorrow 7/1/11 because I just finished a whoosh yesterday.

216 is a great mini goal for 8/1/11

Count me in. I have been maintaining a 112-120 lb weight loss for almost 10 years but I really need to drop 8 lbs in order to fit back into my school clothes(I'm a teacher). In service starts August 1st so this is perfect. I'm currently at 145.8 and want to get back to 138lbs.

I eat extremely healthy already so my goal is to up my exercise intensity.

I really want to join in. I need to (re)lose about 20lbs and want to lose quite a lot of it before September when I am planning a holiday. BUT - I have a problem - I cannot make myself get on the scales in case it sets me off on a compensatory "self-pity binge"!:nono:

Can I be a part of this without knowing what I weigh? I just can't do it. The very thought has me craving chocolate.

Anyhoo I will lurk and see how everyone is getting on.

I'd love to join too! I will be on vacation mid-end July, so I won't be able to weigh for a couple of weeks but I will be back in time to weigh on Aug 1. We will be camping/hiking for some of the vacation, so I hope to get some good exercise in then!

Gooshy, you're welcome, i'm just wondering how you will know if the weights are coming off if you don't weigh yourself, maybe you can try measuring your stats or something.

This will be harder than last month with 4th of July weekend, birthdays (3 of them - not all mine - lol), and parting ways with a health advisor that I don't see eye to eye with. I'm up for a challenge, so let's go! :boxing:

I'm in! Today's weight was 278... five pounds gained in four days. I'm sure it's mostly water weight from high sodium foods, but it's also some junk I've been eating the last three days. I will weigh again tomorrow for my official start weight.

Sounds great!

I thought I had lost 10 pounds in June, because I started at 216.8, then weighed in Monday at 205.4. Well it must have been a fluke because although the last 3 days have been totally OP, my scale now prefers to be right around 208. I'll know for sure tomorrow.

My goal is to be at 197 on August 1. That's my pre-pregnancy weight for my first son! I plan to rev up my exercise this month too. Last month was focused more on easing back into exercise, which I feel like I successfully did. This month I want to start building up to running again, and will follow a modified C25K plan (3 days/week is not enough for me!) Hopefully kicking up exercise will give me the boost I need to get to 197!!

I'm in too. Not sure I'll get to 10 pounds lost this month or any month from now on now that I've been at this awhile and my body seems to be getting more efficient and not dropping as fast, but I'll try to do my best for the month. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning and wrap up last month's weigh-in and start this month's.

Editing to add: I'm going to weigh-in daily. Why? I lose extremely cyclically and it really frustrates me to see it a week at a time because one week it will be up two pounds and the next down four. Plus, if others see how weight can fluctuate so much, it might make them less frustrated. Not saying I'll post every day, but when I post for the week, I'll plug in all numbers.

i think i'll join this. i've been losing only 3 lbs per month the past two months (obviously not plateauing, just not exercising!), so maybe the additional pressure will help me stay focused on exercise.

It's good to see everyone! (I guess this is my 100th time of saying this!). We kick off officially today, July 1st.

Let's have rules to make it more fun or what do you think?

Rule no 1: Don't back out cos the scales aren't moving, just hang in there.
Rule no 2: Share whatever you're going through, someone might have a suggestion or need that encouragement you're keeping to yourself
Rule no 3: Stay on plan, don't eat that junk, walk that extra mile, drag yourself to that gym, it all adds up at the end
Rule no 4: Have fun while losing the weight, it's supposed to be a way of life.

If anyone has anything to add or subtract, please feel free to ( i wish someone can put together a list with our start weight and at the end of the month include our final weight so we can track how we fared, any volunteers?)

Starting the month at 197.4. That would mean 187.4 by August 1st. Now, I will not lie, that number scares me. I haven't seen that number for SOOOOOO long and it seems impossible that I'm that close to it that in some lucky universe, I could actually reach that weight in a month's time. If I do, I will be ecstatic, but with being at this for nearly 6 months, honestly, I'll be happy/THRILLED if I lose 8 this month.

I've stepped up my working out recently, so that should help, but I also know at this point in my weight loss journey, expecting 10 pound losses in a month isn't very likely to happen, unlike in the beginning. But I'll try!!! (in a healthy way!)

I'm in! I've been floating around off plan for the last month or two and I need to get back on it!

Starting July 1st- 177 lbs
here's to 167 by August 1st! My 30 birthday is August 5ths so that would be a really nice birthday present! It would also be nice to lose a few more pounds before my family's vacation in 3 weeks! My weigh in will be on Wednesday's.

I did the challenge last month and would love to do this one as well! :)

I need this in order to stay on track with all the temptations around...especially for this long 4th of July weekend! :)

Current weight 7/1: 162.3
I will be thrilled to get to 155 by August 1 so that's a bit less than 10 lbs., but if 10 happen to come off, I sure won't complain! ;) I'm bloated right now so I think that will be to my advantage! ;)

7/10: 160.3 yay! it took me 9 days to drop 2 lbs. but I'm so happy I am almost in the 150's!!! :)

7/16: 158.6! I'm so thrilled and so close to my goal!!! Woohooo!!! 1.7 lbs. in 6 days ain't too shabby!

I hope to get to 155 by the end of this month. That means I have 15 days to lose 3.6 lbs.

7/26 I am 156.5 lbs. this morning.....I have 1.5 lbs. to reach my goal...it won't be a 10 lb. loss for the month, but I'll be thrilled with it nonetheless. I only have 5 days to do it. If I don't make it, I think I'll be ok even if I can just lose another .5 lb. this month. I'm working hard and doing my best.

7/29: 154.6!!!! Woohooo!!! Almost 8 lbs. so far this month!!!

7/30: 153.1!!! That means I've lost 9 lbs. this month! This has actually exceeded my expectations and I'm SO proud of myself! I even did all this while my son and I both got the chicken pox! WOW!!!

8/1: 152.5! I can't believe it! The weight seems to be melting off my body! I'm working out a lot and keeping very active, but this means that I've lost 10 lbs. this month! Wooohooooo!!!!

Alright here we go ... from 6/1 to 7/1 I lost (-5.6) pounds I like those numbers better than what I got for 6/1 to 6/30 (-2.8)

I have hit a plateau for a week- I am doing 1200 calories a day, 30 minutes exercise a day. Any advice to get off the plateau and back to losing would help a lot! I am doing a pretty good guestimate and using a calorie counter. Exercise is mainly walking/jogging/some incline...

Something cool to think about...we have 53 people so far doing this challenge. If we collectively meet our goal we will be over 500lbs lighter by this time next month!

goingfor120, maybe you are getting smaller even if the scale is not moving. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Maybe your workouts are making the inches disappear instead of the pounds.

Something cool to think about...we have 53 people so far doing this challenge. If we collectively meet our goal we will be over 500lbs lighter by this time next month!

I'm so excited! Having 53 team mates in this challenge kind of keeps me focused, i don't want to be the weak link! Exercise, healthy eating, here i come!

I'm in. Late but I need to join. I am doing great with the exercise. Not so great at handling my new and increased appetite because of it.
I'm thinking of upping my calories to something more in line with the amount of activity I do in a day. Maybe 1300-1400.

I would love to be 172.6 by Aug 1st. I will try to achieve this by fully counting everything, planning for when I know I will be hungriest (Late afternoon) and training hard.

I'm super-late joining as I've been really down lately, following a 4lb gain since 1st July. I'm going to use that weight as my start weight, so really going to have to pick it up to lose a massive number in July. Off 2 another festival tomorrow so will weigh in a day early and expecting a huuuge gain, but I have another 3 weeks after and hoping to get back on track.

Down 2 pounds for the week! I'm feeling pretty good about this b/c TTOM is near at hand and the dietary changes I have been making have been making my body hold on to stuff for the last 3 days IYKWIM.

DH will weigh later when he gets up and tell me if he is up, down or the same and by how much. I am hoping for good things for him too, bc we have been eating healthier suppers. Not sure what he has been eating out of the house but I at least know here he has been eating better.

As I said, I would write down all my weights for this week (and month). I'm at my monthly stall out. TTOM just finished and now I'll start my stall out or gain for ovulation. My goal for this month is to keep the gain for ovulation as little as possible. I don't expect ANY loss (has never happened in all my 6 months of doing this). I am eating on plan every day and exercising on plan every day. It's just my body's pattern.

I really need to do this again for motivation this month. I know I'm late coming but I weighed-in this morning at 188.4 (but have been weigh-in at 187 most days but TOM just showed up). I'd love to at least get to the bottom half of the 180's by the end of this month. Not sure how doable it is, though...

I'm also taking a short break from weight lifting because my knees/back haven't been feeling the best lately so I'll be doing just cardio and weights in the pool for a bit. We'll see how that goes. ;)

This is going to be a LONG stall out for me (I stall for 2.5 -3 weeks every month). I still have AT LEAST 5 more days until ovulation and then I don't lose that ovulation weight for 3-4 days. So, I still have over a week to go and I've already been stalled out for for about 2 weeks. It's frustrating watching most everyone's weight go down and my stays the same or goes up. I'm eating right and exercising daily. It's just the way my body works. I should be used to it by now, but there's always that nagging little thought in the back of my head, "what if this month I don't have that 7-10 days of whoosh???"

I forgot to weigh last week as I was off on holiday, so I'm pretty much out. I'm up 4lb from my starting weight, so not sure I'll manage to lose 14lb in 17 days. I've just lost my motivation, and can't seem to get it back. Well done to all of those sticking with it, I admire your strength.

Hang in there, the purpose of the thread is not only to shed weight but to stay on plan as well and who says you have to lose 14pounds! If the only weight you are able to shed this month is the 4pounds you gained, then you're a winner cos you're less 4pounds. And if you sign out, that means we're short of one person to motivate us and you're short of 60-something people to motivate you!

Official weigh-in: 194 which is a 1 pound loss. A little disappointing because I and working my rearend off but not even getting 2lbs/week. I really hope it speeds up. But I have to celebrate in that I broke 195, which I was at or around for 2 weeks.

As I said, I would write down all my weights for this week (and month). I'm at my monthly stall out. TTOM just finished and now I'll start my stall out or gain for ovulation. My goal for this month is to keep the gain for ovulation as little as possible. I don't expect ANY loss (has never happened in all my 6 months of doing this). I am eating on plan every day and exercising on plan every day. It's just my body's pattern.

So:

7/1: 197.4
7/2: 196.4
7/3: 196.6
7/4: 196.8 (TTOM starts)
7/5: 197.8
7/6: 198.2
7/7: 198.2 (TTOM ends)
7/8: 198.2

OK, still in my stall-out, but it has gotten a bit better which means my trying to keep water weight to a minimum is working so far with basically this week holding steady which is a victory for me during the stall-out!

That happened to me last week. I started mine on Thursday and when I weighed Friday I had only lost 1 lb. The nice thing was that a day after TOM ended I showed a 2 lb loss.

Ok, so I was a little disappointed because I have been losing weight so slow and putting a lot of time into my weight-loss but today when I weighed in I went from 194 to 191.2!!!!! I am so excited! My official weigh in is not until next Friday so hopefully I can lose another pound. This deserves dancing carrots. :carrot::carrot:

juhir - Happy to share - part of why I'm losing quickly is that this has been a re-start for me. I had regained 15 or so pounds last winter and at the end of June decided to get rid of them again and I think there's always some water weight loss when you start (or restart after a break). I'm sticking to 1200-1400 cals/day with very few carbs from grains and am running intervals for a half-hour (which is supposed to rev your metabolism all day) 5-6x/week and walking for an hour as well on a few days. Isopure zero carb protein drinks (60 cals, 15g of protein) are really helping me with my nighttime snacking problem - I drink one when I'm going to bed and it kills the munchies. That's pretty much it - hope it's helpful. I'm sure I'll stall soon ;)

I won't make goal of 10lbs this month. A lot of that has to do with issues and new scales. I plan on working hard and I'll catch everyone next month!

kuri - just noticed you're another Denverite - how fun! New scales can be tough - I went through that last year and it took me a while to come to terms with the new number. Hang in there with the issues and stuff!

Hi all,

I've only just joined and started the whole weight loss thing in earnest last Friday (15 July). I weighed 221 lbs. Now I'm 216 so 5 lbs in the first few days (you know how it is with the big losses early).

Now to keep my head down and see how close I can get to the 10 lbs in the remaining 13 days of July.

Hey MaryOjo, I only just saw this! Thanks so much for your support, your motivation and positive attitude is so inspiring.

I've actually put on another pound so am currently at 145, so I'm aiming to lose those 5lb in the next 12 days, to at least have maintained over this month rather than gaining. I'm slowly getting back in the weight-loss frame of mind and feeling better about the whole thing so once I've kicked this cold into touch I'm ready for a 1st September challenge! 14lb loss between now and September 1st is my new goal, and I'm determined to succeed this time!

My deadline is over. It was a huge success. I am going to celebrate by sleeping in tomorrow. (Which DH says "ya right" to b/c I'm not good at sleeping in, but just the knowledge that I COULD sleep in is a big psychological boost for me)

I'll work on updating the spreadsheet at lunch today.

I had conflicting weights as my scale is wonky...lol! So I jumped onto the Wii fit board and weighed myself...it said 260.5. I'll take it since my regular scale would vary 5 lbs everytime I got on it...ugh.

So I am at 260.5! 1.5 lbs away from the 10lbs for the month! I haven't seen the 250's in along time:):carrot:

Two pounds down, which is pretty fabulous considering I was off plan for FOUR days this week. It's so strange that I lost 2 pounds after that, but last week I only went off plan for one meal and lost 1/2 a pound?

I'm probably not going to meet the 10 pound goal, but to get out of the 160's by August 1st would be amazing.

Congrats to everyone, can't believe how quickly some of you lose weight! :)

I love it too. My weight crept up over 70 POUNDS in about 3 years, so I know all about what happens when you don't put in effort! Very important point to remember, and very motivating.
