Has anyone ever read Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel? A lot of the advice she gives makes sense but I'm not sure it would work for me to lose weight.
I read it quite a while ago. From what I remember, it's good advice, but nothing life altering for me.....also, it made me feel that she eats like a small bird...not much. For me, that's tough to maintain. Of course she doesn't say to do that, but that's what I remember. I could be wrong so I hope you get some other replies.

I found it very helpful and doing her "boyfriend chicken" recipe from her cook book as we speak. That being said, I was doing Ideal Protein diet from mid January and lost 20 lbs by end of March. then I went on to phase II and III of that diet, lost another 15. Now, I am flaking out and have gained back 4 lbs. The protein oriented diets just work better for me - especially since I passed 50. I am down to a size 8 but it's a slippery slope.
I should reread the book. She has some great suggestions like:1. if in the middle of a binge just stop. Don't think, "well I've already blown it, I might as well just keep eating." 2.When you taste something evil but good (my words not hers) the first bite tastes like heaven, the second bite good but by the time you get to the third and forth bite - is it still tasting orgasmic? She's right about that. If you pay attention to every bite. Of course that's easier said than done.
Now, I am a starchy carb addict. I've never over eaten lettuce or broccoli so sometimes I can do the taste thing and sometimes I can't. I can do it if I take the tastes at someone else's house but if the rest of the evil food is in my house I will eat right through it. And last night I brought in 6 little bags of peanut MMs because I was having an emotional problem that I just had to have chocolate for - and of course I ate all 6...and 3 glasses of wine...but I loved the books. It's just like talking to a girlfriend. But I need something more structured at this stage of my life to lose more than 5 lbs.
She's basically describing "intuitive eating". I love her book, love her strategies, I'm just not in a place where I can be trusted using them. If you can, I'd highly recommend it because it will lead you to a "normal" relationship with food. But most of us got here because we don't have a "normal" relationship with food. Just my 2 cents.
I haven't read the book--but shes notorious for her unhealthy obsession with weight and body--girlfriend had an eating disorder. I'd just be wary of her advice, she may tout intuitive eating, but shes built a brand on being skinny..so I'd just be careful.
Thank you all very much for your opinions. I have thought about it and think the best way for me to lose weight and keep it off is Weight Watchers. I do think that once I'm at my goal weight some of her advice will help me maintain.
How does a woman who is at least 42% man-made materials "write" a book called "Naturally Thin"--or for that matter, "Naturally" anything? I would trust her to dispense reasonable advice about good health, proper nutrition, and body acceptance about like I'd trust a doctor who doesn't believe in hand-washing to dispense reasonable advice about preventive care.
I'm actually a little shocked that anyone would ghost-write and publish an advice book under the name of someone who so clearly battles her own demons about weight loss and self-image.
Yeah, I thought that "just stop" sounded pretty preposterous, too. Isn't "put the fork down" a cruel comment that people make, not actual dietary advice? I can hunt up the bully from my fifth grade class to give me the same advice for free.
