Wow, Heather, I hope things quiet down for you.
I'm with you, ladies, let's make June a great month. For me, my June/July should be excellent times to work on establishing or solidifying habits. I have a week and a half left of my summer course, and then the rest ofthe summer is all mine.
Must get back to grading now, though... have a great Thursday, all.

I knew subway was loaded with sodium but 900mg for a sandwich without any dressings..WOW. No wonder i slept through the night without getting up to use the bathroom. I will increase water today to flush it out. I really enjoyed my sandwich to be honest. It was a nice change of pace.
Going out for a walk before it gets to hot.

Good morning! It must be that time of year again, as soon as one set of company leaves another is coming in the door. :dizzy: Makes it hard on my eating plan. So far so good though. The scale is up a bit but it could be worse! I think maybe the visits are over for a few days anyway. LOL!
I hope you are all having a great weekend. Ruth
PS: I forgot...today is our 60th wedding anniverssary, how about that? Never thought I would live this long must less be married most of my life. LOL!

Ruth - it's not all the company for me - it's all the extra social stuff that challenges me. Last night the choices could have been better at a graduation party. Tonight is DH's high school reunion - I have a plan now I just need to execute it. Tomorrow is a big family event here - one day at a time.
Exercise is great but doesn't keep the scale going in the right direction when I make poor food choices - need to remind myself it's the total wellness package! Wellness is what I'm after.

I should be yelling help right now. My thirteen year old Granddaughter wants to come and spend a week with me......HELP....a teenager! I haven't had one of those around for years. LOL! I am sure I will enjoy every moment of her visit.:crossed:
Well, I do hope today will be an OP day for all of you. (Me too) Ruth

Happy Anniversary ruth and hubby. 60yrs is a long time. We will celebrate 30 this year. I hope he takes you out someplace special.
I did a bad job yesterday where food was concerned. I skipped breakfast to go to yardsales with a friend. I knew better than to do that. It set me up for being hungry all afternoon and nothing seemed to hit the spot. OH well today is a new day and back OP.
It so hot and dry here also. It would be nice to have a slow steady rain for a few hours. Guess we are going from one extreme to another.
Hope everyone has a great day and stays cool.

Ruth - congrats to you both on the milestone! That is a wonderful accomplishment and something to be proud of. Don't hear of that much anymore. My parents have been married 64 and I often wonder how they did it but sure glad they did. Enjoy the day!
I thought I had a pretty good day yesterday but the scale says something different. Today will be quite the food challenge - hope to spend less time eating and more time working with the 18 month old great nephew in the water. He is now calling people by their names (or trying to) - my name is dogs - actually it's great by me - he loves my dogs and I'm glad he thinks of them when he sees me.

Good morning ladies, How are all of you today?
Yesterday was fine....my DH grilled us a steak. Yummy! I keep wanting to give up meat, but darn it, I like the stuff! LOL! I will say that it is not a good thing now. Too many additives, not like when I was growing up. Of course our other meat is full of who knows what too. then there is the veggies....pesticides, GMOS, Oh my, what do we eat that is safe? Off soap box now!:p
Oh yes, being married 60 years, no secret to that. We fight, we make up, or we ignore each other...just kidding! for a lot of those years we were in service (he) and he was not at home for a year or so at the time. Korea, Viet Nam etc. I was always happy to have him back safe and sound. The years have passed so fast!
I am hoping to have another good week food wise. I hope all of you do too.

Happy anniversary, Ruth! My aunt and uncle celebrated 50 two years ago and I made them a mix CD of #1 songs from the year they were married--what a trip down memory lane that was. Your list for 1951 would be "The Tennessee Waltz" (Patti Page), "If" (Perry Como), "How High the Moon" (Les Paul and Mary Ford), "Too Young" (Nat King Cole), "Come On-a My House" (Rosemary Clooney), "Because of You" (Tony Bennett), "Cold, Cold Heart" (Tony Bennett) and "It's No Sin" (Eddy Howard). What a bunch of classics!
Good luck with no white carbs, Debbie.
I'm one pound closer to saying goodbye to the 300s. My goals for this week are to keep stringing together days of reasonable eating, to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day, and to try to spend 10-15 minutes outside each day to work on acclimating to the heat. Oh, one more: I want to get back to the easy yoga. Let's say at least twice this week, in addition to the cardio.
Hope everyone's having a great Monday.

I will be so happy when the dog's radiation treatments are done. I have to get up far too early... and today he was especially unhappy (and vocal) in the car both ways, 50 min each way. It's not soothing for me, but I really feel for him.
Then I got home and watered the garden as it's supposed to be hot today... then off to the office...
Food and exercise both bad. Right now can't think about it, sadly...

msratliff- welcome to our thread. I hope you stay with us and join right in. Im 47 and premenopausal and I think its getting harder to lose than it was a few years back. I have also noticed that when I gain now its more around my waist as where it use to be in my rear.
angela- way to go on the great day. I made it with no white carbs yesterday.I am fixing mashed potatoes for dinner tonight so that will be a challenge.I will fix me a serving of squash and green beans and thats what I will eat. I can do this...( if i keep telling myself it will work right?)
My sister pointed out last night that its not about the day but about each meal at a time.I will make a healthy breakfast and eat it and then do the same at lunch. She said for her there is no bites of anything off her diet or else she will lose control and eat to much of it. So for me its no bites of anything I cant have.
Exercise is so hard for me. I cant take the kids out in the heat right now during the day so today I will do a dvd in the house. I would love to walk in the evenings but they are taken up by gardening right now.
Ruth- hi and hugs..company coming this week?

Good morning everyone, Hot, hot day! We haven't had rain in weeks now, our grass is brown and crunchy. The only up side to that is no mowing. No mowing, no gas to buy for the lawnmower.
Deb, no company this week as far as I know. LOL! They do have a way of suddenly deciding to come for a visit though.
I am trying to plan for a family get together and have all of the kids, grandkids and great grands that want to come. I thought perhaps a cookout would be the best idea, but I haven't come up with a day or time. It has to be on a weekend and on Sat. as some have to travel a good way. Most won't stay over. I keep asking myself if I really want to do this! I enjoy the time, but oh the cleanup! Everyone leaves and Mama is stuck with the aftermath. :faint:

Hello Again Ladies.
I've been having huge habit issues. My first habit I have promised myself to do is to read and post here every day.
I surrendered to weekly goals and decided to work on the daily and one moment at a time goals.
Today I'm home from work with a lot of cleaning to do to keep me busy. It's super hot (like everyone else in the country is feeling) so I put the A/C up and going to keep focused.

I am soooooooo sick of cicada.
Well, I see the light at the end of this course: I finished writing their final exam and had it photocopied this afternoon. Tomorrow they'll come in to talk about their essays, then Friday they'll turn in essays and take the exams, and I'll have a ton of grading to do--but then I'll be free for 8 weeks.

cheermom- I had a horrible time giving up diet drinks. I lived on them. I would drink one the second my feet hit the floor and pretty much kept a glass close at hand the rest of the day. I didnt eat anything until dinnertime as long as I had my soft drink handy. For me it was cutting down to one a day and then none. I gave mine up because I figured they were adding to my weight as well as kidney issues. Good luck..you can do this and welcome by the way!!

Hi all:
I'm in a bad place today. I was losing weight pretty steadily, although not rapidly, until a family crisis in September '09, which knocked me completely off track. The good news is, I didn't really gain any weight while I was overeating. The bad news is, now that I'm back on track -- and then some! -- I'm not losing any weight and am getting tired and frustrated and depressed. I almost cried during my training session today!
My trainer is totally awesome -- the best trainer or coach I've ever had -- but although he's very savvy and thoughtful and kind, he's also very young and has never been overweight or unfit, so I think that he doesn't totally get how it feels to be STUCK. So he's trying to give me advice that doesn't seem like it's totally coming from the right direction, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I'm going to just keep on keeping on. It's better than the alternative, I guess :) I just wish I didn't have a stupid deadline in 7 (!!!) weeks.
Good luck to you all in this heat!

I had a POP day on the road yesterday! That is one huge accomplishment for me - too much sodium but water will take care of that!
A week from today we leave - I've continued to kick myself in the backside (sorry about that visual) about not being where I want to be weight wise. DH reminded me my brother hasn't seen me since I was 348 lbs. He also gave me a little "lecture" about how different I am and that will be the biggest thing for them to notice - I'm no longer somebody that just watches everyone else participate - I'm right there in the middle of it. He believes my stamina level and fitness ability will shock them. I need to remember all the good things - why is that so hard.
Why I'm up at 4 am on my day off I have no idea but the kitchen is clean and laundry started. I'll head to the pool later for water class and take it from there.
Stay Strong!

Hi ladies. My eating is better today than it has been, but I still have this urge to binge. I wish TOM would come; right now I'm blaming him.
Spent most of the day at the office trying to excavate it. Worked all day, filled a recycling bin, and at the end it looked as bad as when I started... but there is more space in filing cabinets to put things where they belong. Didn't do most of the things I really needed to do, and didn't exercise either... :( I'll try to do something about that before bedtime.
Deb, sorry about that knee! Hope it's better quickly.

I am glad to report my knee is a bit better than yesterday. If it just continues to improve a bit each day I will be happy. I have to stay off of it for the most part and continue to ice it a few times a day.
Food was a bit heavier than it should have been yesterday. I will be more careful today about what I eat. Yesterday I just sat all day long and hubby ran out and brought back food and it wasnt what I should have been eating.

I AM finally done with school. In fact, I'm on vacation this week!! Not going anywhere, though.
The past 2 days my project has been getting the paths in the garden mulched. Pleased to say it looks great now!!
Today am headed into the city to see a friend. A nice break.
Exercise has been better with all the mulching, at least.

Hi all. Better today, though not perfect. But better. TOM is still hiding, but I managed to be in control of what I ate, and exercised. I realized I have 68 days (counting today) until school starts again, so I'm shooting for 68 days of OP eating and consistent minimum 30 minutes per day of exercise.
Day 1: Got 'er done.
Ruth, I've been trying to clean my office at school for 2 days now. Yeesh! Did you get those veggies in?
Deb, I'm glad to hear the knee is somewhat better. Hope tomorrow sees some more improvement!
Heather, I hope you're enjoying your week off. Pretty nice weather for it, eh?
Sleep tight, ladies. Let's make tomorrow one more step towards our goals!

good morning ladies...
My knee is a bit better maybe. The back of my calv is now killing me. It feels like I pulled a muscle in it. I guess the knee hurt so much I didnt notice the other pain. I think a few more days of rest will help it. I know I over did it yesterday.
Eating was not good yesterday. We were out of food and you know what that means. We ended up going to the store after I got finished babysitting for the day. I cut up alot of fruit for a fruit salad and also got the stuff for a 7 layered salad. Food today will be POP. Exercise will have to wait a few more days.

Well I have a half day of work today then it's official vacay mode. I'm very excited to see my brother - hope he sees a difference in me - perhaps it will be the motivation I need - he hasn't see me since I was 348 lbs. I just answered my own question - he will see 85 lb difference. Once we are past our little mini reunion with cousins it will be nice to relax on the Alaska cruise. I plan to come home much more relaxed as our excursions are more laid back due to DH's friends health limitations.
Food is a little sloppy right now. Lots of exercise and good choices planned.

Hi all:
I've been doing the couch-to-5K program this week, and one week in, I have shin splints and a shredded pinkie toe. I keep trying to forget that I injure easily (for no particular reason that I can find), but I just keep wanting to do more. My lungs and heart were fine with the running, but the rest of me, I guess not so much.
I've purchased some (expensive!!!) running shoes that were recommended for me, so we'll see what that does. I may have to take the rest of the week off, or at least tonight, and keep icing my legs. Frustrating.
It's good to read about everybody staying on plan -- gives me even more motivation to do so myself!
Happy weekend (almost) everybody!

Hello!
Nope, Angela didn't get the veggies in again today, but I plan to have some broccoli soup for dinner tonight. :)
I went in for to get my blood tested again...had it done a couple of months ago and my vit.D was low, so they had me take two 1000mg. a day and come back and have it tested. It was a late b'fast after the test. I mainly wanted my coffee! Maybe two meals today is a good thing.
Hi walrus! Ouchie on the hurts. I have a lot of problems with feet and legs., so I feel for you. I know I need to get some weight off, now if only my mind could follow the script!:p Hope you get better soon.
You too Deb. Having something hurt is no fun.
Carol, I envy you! I wanna hide in your luggage. ;)
Heather, ENJOY!

Hi ladies, pretty good day so far. Started the day with a half hour of yoga. I do see why people like to exercise in the morning, but I can only manage it when I don't have anywhere I have to be and can take as long as I want to get out of the house. Eating is OP so far and I still plan to do a half hour of cardio after dinner. Can't do cardio salsa, though; knees are complaining about it.
Debbie, I hope that pain works its way on out! At least it's good to hear the knee seems some better...
Carol, have a great trip!
Walrus, I have skinny friends who are runners (half-marathoners, most of them)... and they all end up injuring themselves. Maybe you do injure easily, or maybe running is just awfully hard on the body?
Ruth, hope the bloodwork shows the appropriate bump up.
Have a great evening and a great OP Friday.

Good morning ladies, and where are all of our ladies?
Deb, be careful with that knee until it is healed. I have to ask you this. LOL! How do you ever keep your place clean keeping little ones! My Granddaughter came with her Dad to see his Dad yesterday and brought 5 little ones with her. 4 of her own and a niece. They had happy meals with them to eat for lunch......Oyi! my kitchen floor will never be clean again. I have scrubbed it about three times and I am still finding spots of who knows what? Whatever it is is stuck on there like glue. I even used the steamer on it. LOL! Cute kids, but way to many at once for this old gal. I thought my husband was going to leave home. I could see him wanting to escape. LOL!
Heather, how did that BBQ turn out?
My son brought his Dad and I some ribs from Longhorns, they were pretty good. I don't think they were the best choice for me, but I ate just the meat.
Today is OP all the way. I wish you all the same. :) Ruth

Ruth- first off let me say our state rule is only 3 kids in a home daycare. I only keep 3. I did keep my grandchildren but they dont count in the numbers. I just get the basic stuff done when they are little. My kids are all going to kindergarden and IM starting over with a toddler and a newborn. Still waiting for God to send me another child to fill the final spot. I love the kids I keep and will miss the ones IM sending off to school. I pretty much get them as newborns and keep them till they go off to school. :(
Heather- I let my knee being messed up as an excuse to eat whatever hubby put in front of me. I knew better but I guess it was a comfort thing.
I hope your meeting give you some healthy choices to chose between. I am back on track now...

I'm here, pretty much. Still recovering from the shin splints and shredded toe. I'm supposed to be starting C25K again tonight, and I'm coming up with a million reasons why I shouldn't -- my shin still hurts, I've had a headache for 2 days, it's hot and muggy out, and it's supposed to thunderstorm. I'm tired. Did I mention the headache? I'm stressed out, and my lower back is super tight and tense.
On the other hand, it will probably make me feel better, and I get antsy when I'm not exercising. And I only have 5 weeks until departure, and still too many pounds to go. And if I don't do it tonight, I'll have to find another night to do it -- no escape, just a temporary reprieve.
Plus, I ate more than I intended to last night and Saturday night, which irritates me. I'm not guilty or depressed or self-loathing, but I am irritated because I was willing to eat more than I wanted to, which is just silly. It's one thing to eat more than you planned but be happy with it because it was awesome and you enjoyed every bite, but when I overeat for other reasons (eg, we had dinner at a friend's house and I felt obligated to eat a little of everything, and there were a lot of everythings), it makes me cranky.
Which is a long way of saying that I'm working hard to not persuade myself to skip out on the C25K, but I'm probably going to be pissy about it for a few hours yet!
ADDED: Ok, the reasons for not running beat out the reasons for running, but I'll get some time on the bike tonight.
dgramie
06-22-2011, 07:10 AM
Walrus- way to go on getting on the bike. Are you doing c25k on a treadmill or outside? I tried to do it outside and didnt succeed.
Heather- glad to hear your going to the gym today. Its so hard to make yourself exercise. I wish we had a gym nearby. We live in a very rural area and no gym for miles.
Ruth- how are you this morning?? My knee is a bit better again today. I should be able to walk normal in another week.
Ever wonder why we do so good with weight loss and are so happy with the progress we made and then gain it back or part of it back. Im really trying to get to the bottom of this question for myself. I think part of it is we get to a comfortable spot. I know I allowed myself to eat more because I love food and I was pretty happy with the way i looked, even though I was still a ways from goal. Now I have gained back 30lbs and not so happy with the way I look and my selfesteem is not what it was a couple of years ago. I want that energy back. I want that fire back. I want to look good in my clothing. I want it..... now I have to make it happen.

I had a great day of eating yesterday. Im still not getting any exercise. I am getting my housework done and by that time my knee is done for the day. I have been doing some stretches and stuff with it daily. Guess it will just take time to heal.
Yes Ruth we have been hot but this week things have cooled down alot and we got some needed rain the past few days. I think from friday to tuesday we got about 6inches.

well time for us to get serious. Hubby went to the dr yesterday and his levels were not good at all. His glucose is higher. His cholesteral is way up. He has 6 months to get it under control or go on insulin shots. He would also have to add another med for his cholesteral. He asked the dr to give him time to try and lose weight and get healthier. I'm here, mostly. I haven't been getting any running in -- it was too easy to stop after injuring myself. I have been training and walking, but not doing what I need to do to lose the weight I want/need to lose before we leave in 1 month from today. I'm trying on all the new clothes we bought for the trip -- some of which is the largest size they make -- and it doesn't all look so good.
Last night was a steak dinner, celebrating my cousin's birthday, and it was SO HARD to not eat more steak than I did. As it was, I planned on eating 6 ounces of steak and ended up with 8, with 8 left on the plate, but I ate more mashed potatoes than planned. I did resist bread, wine, and dessert.
I guess I shouldn't be feeling so down, but my loss has stalled (again), and I really had high hopes for getting down farther sooner, so I'm tired and frustrated.
Anyway, sorry to be a bummer! I'm just having a rough day today...

Hi ladies, I'm back--should have told you I'd be AWOL for a week or so. I had this trip coming up and was very busy getting ready for it, then the first couple days of the trip I was with family and had no internet access. That was a wedding, and now I'm in Boston, doing some research at the Mass. Historical Society. So far today I've had two meals, both at Starbucks. :( But, I'm under 1200 calories, so I guess Starbucks isn't the worst place to eat, if you're going with convenience. I didn't eat lunch, because I arrived at the Historical Society later in the morning than I had hoped, and they close at 4:30, and I have to maximize my time here, since the trip is costing a lot.
Anyway. Deb, how's the knee now?
Walrus, I'm with you, feeling like my loss should be faster...I know in my head that the last time I lost I was, sigh, 11 years younger than I am now, so I know it can't be as easy, but still, it feels like I'm doing enough right and should be seeing more results than I am. But you're going to have a great trip no matter how much weight you've lost, and the important thing is that you're keeping at it.
Ruth, are the kids relaxing? Maybe you'll be glad they were shy later.... :)
Heather, don't you get any summer at all?
Okay, ladies, I've been putting my feet up because they swelled from all the sitting in the reading room today, but I'm going to go out and walk around a bit, see some of the Back Bay and get some exercise at the same time.
More soon~~

Whoa! I walked too much. I hope I can still walk tomorrow, since I have to at least walk to and from the Historical Socy.
Here's a weird/possibly dumb question for those of you who do a lot of walking. Do you think your glutes do a lot of the work of propelling you?
I ask because recently I've realized that mine, covered in flab as they are, don't really; my thigh muscles are doing most of the work, and I'm wondering whether my poor walking form has anything to do with my low back and hip pain (surely it does). Any thoughts about butts and walking, other than that I should make the former do more of the latter?
Everyone having a good day? June is almost over--do you have special plans for your weight loss in July?

Back from Alaska with a few extra pounds, swollen ankles like I've never had and wonderful memories and best of all a POP day today!
I think July 5 will be the day I start my 100 day POP challenge - I need to detox and get rid of this water - full speed ahead.
We have a trip coming up over Christmas - I want to be at least 20 lbs lighter as does DH. Great benefits on this trip - DH and I are both so much more physically able than our friends that are all our age - we could do circles around them - we walked to town every day - they all took a shuttle. One day my pedometer showed over 17,000 steps. I think that is a record for me.
Happy to be home!

Hi all... gee my time here has flown--tomorrow I head back home. I should go out and find some souvenirs to take back to folks, but it's so danged hot out there... well, I'll give it a little time and then give it a shot. There was a crazy place that said "Chocolate by the Bald Guy" and I know my aunt Jan (skinny little thing who loves chocolate) would get a kick out of that... but what to get anyone else I have no idea. And I'd have to get the chocolate back to the hotel quickly or I'd end up with a bag of chocolate syrup.
Deb, hope that knee brace speeds recovery for you.
Carol, so glad you had a good trip, and thanks for the thoughts about inclines. I've never really been able to walk on a treadmill, but I know my hip pain goes away when I'm walking uphill. Sound like I need to build some strength in my backside :) I'm psyched for a 100 day challenge.. starting on the 5th sounds great.

The extra lbs I found on vacation are gone! I still haven't found my ankles so maybe another few days of whooshes are in store. Feels so good to be POP. I'm ready to be back to normal around the house - still working on laundry and getting things put away. I was able to get some great exercise in last night. I went to mow my folks yard - mom came out and told me dad said it was too hot for me to mow. I start mowing and notice one of their windows isn't closed all the way. Dad came out to tell me not to worry about the back yard (I mowed it anyway) and I wanted to let him know the window was open - come to find out they didn't have the air conditioning on. I think the whole neighborhood heard me tell him to turn the *&@* a/c on. 100 degree heat - windows closed - no a/c. Fortunately my sister showed up about the same time and could witness this. We will check in on them often (as always).
Stay strong!

Good morning, Nice to see all of you doing so well with the program. (doesn't matter what program!)
Carol, I just had to respond to your post after reading about your folks and the air conditioning. I know why I hate to run the darn thing so much in this hot weather........the bill! :fr: It is not a matter of affording it or not, we can, but I hate to give all of that money to the power Co. LOL! I think as we age, a lot of us get more frugal. I know my Mom was always frugal, but then she lived through a depression. It changes your way of living and thinking. More people need to think green for sure. You were right to have them turn on the air though, it is way to hot to not have it on.

I am excited to start the 100 day challenge!! I need it so bad!
Hubby was mad at me yesterday for monitoring his food. I think this is where it gets so hard. He will not stay eating healthy if I dont make him. GRRr
We are just staying home for the weekend. NO plans except to do some decluttering and sewing. I need a calm weekend.

OMG, how is it the end of June?????
Angela -- I think we go back a lot later than you (but start summer a lot later too!) Summer time is so precious!
Carol -- Glad to hear you're back OP!!
Ruth -- I keep raising the temp in the house to cut expenses... hubby likes it cool, but understands the need. Still, it's tough.
Debbie -- I have similar issues with my husband. We both do well when we work together on plan, but it's really hard to get him to really get on board!
In positive news, my dog with cancer has finished his radiation treatments, and had a quick followup with the vet. The radiation area is looking good. For now, I'm assuming he's cancer free... we'll have a followup in a few months. I'm thrilled that he did so well and that I no longer have to make the 50 min drive at 6am three days a week!!!!
I need to get my exercise in gear. What I'm doing won't cut it long term.
