New Week, New Pages!

Thanks for the new pages, Vickie.

I hope everyone has a great day today. Ems and Jojo, it's Memorial Day here, in case you hadn't figured that out. It's a day to give thanks to veterans and those who died in war. It's also a big day for picnics and social gatherings.

I had a wonderful day and evening with my nieces. They came to my house and we made chicken enchiladas, beans and rice for everyone. I just savored the sounds of their laughter in my kitchen--they are so funny together. Today we will go to their mother's house about an hour from here, so I get to enjoy them even more.

I hope you all have a good day also.

Good Morning Ladies:)

Well my building is all quite and still the people in Unit B & D left early to beat the rush going home from this Memorial Day Weekend. I miss them already,as they were outdoor people never got to the meeting but I did meet the man last night and he said that either they were out or I was out when they were in. always missing each other.I saw them working in the garden or seeing the children on there bikes. The woman in C keeps to herself,TG I have made friends and I don't have to rely on the neighbors for socializing.

Not going to do much as we have a overcast, and they predicting some rain sometime in the afternoon. After I finish posting I'm going down to the beach and get some walking done.

VICKIE-Thanks for the new pages

RHONDA-Glad that your with your nieces this holiday. I'm alone today but I have lots to do, as the day will go by fast.

Have a great day

Good Morning Chicks!

We are just home bumming around today. We didn't go to our party yesterday because of the bad storms that came through Chicago. We would have been driving and hour and a half directly into the storm with a sickish dog in the car. So we decided to stay home. No BBQ in the family today as they did theirs yesterday also.

I'm holding my own on the scale but haven't weighed in anywhere in a while. Need to get back to routine, probably starting tomorrow.

Hope you all have a great day!

Happy Memorial Day! JoJo and Ems, I imagine you have a similar, if not the same, celebration. I hope you are all getting to honor veterans and current military as well as their loved ones today.

We went to the 2nd Grade Awards Celebration this morning. Our grand got several awards and was all smiles. (as were her parents and grands)

This afternoon Curtis and I walked to get in a few minutes exercise. I'm heading out to OA this evening. Life is good.

Vickie, I hear ya on storms. Hope ya'll are safe and sound.

Maryann, I love reading about your adventures with your ladyfriends.

And, Rhonda, ditto for you. Have fun with your nieces. Enjoy every minute.

Got to go. I'll catch ya'll later.

The wanderer has returned, or more appropriate… the bad penny has turned up. I seem to have been away weeks and weeks. I’ve not had time to catch up on the other weekly forums… loads of washing to do, but I just wanted to drop in.
We had a wonderful time in a cottage on the edge of the Norfolk Broads (not the same as American broads.) We walked a lot, took a boat out, walked some more, good healthy food and early nights. I managed to lose that second 10lbs… wonders never cease so I am down 25lbs in all and will start on the next 10 next Monday. It is my 61st birthday today. \msrk is taking me out for a meal this evening.
Good luck everyone

The happiest of birthdays, JoJo, and I hope you have many, MANY more! Why 61 is quite young these days. Do you have anything special planned for today? Congratulations on dropping that second 10 pounds and for being down 25!

Sandra, I hope the heat lowers so you can practice soon. It will be hot again here today.

Rhonda, did you get any good advice from the Nutritionist? Is it working?

:bday2you::hb::bday2you: jojo. Vickie said 61 is young, so i guess I'm young too. Wow, 10 lbs. Congrats and enjoy your birthday. We missed you.

Maryann, did you enjoy your walk? How far and long do you walk at the beach?

Rhonda, have fun today. Yes, I'm curious what your nutritionist had to say. Please share.

Sandra, it's too hot to walk here. Suppose to be 95 today.

Vicki, I have been holding my own, but want to lose some more.

Jojo--welcome back; happy birthday :hb: ; and congratulations on the weight loss.

I will see the nutritionist again this afternoon, so I'll let you know. The MD I saw said that my blood tests showed a slightly elevated A1C score (5.7) and slightly elevated LDL. According to the Mayo Clinic website neither of these figures is significantly elevated. I'm sure that an even better diet will take care of anything, including belly fat.

The nutritionist did not have my individual plan ready, but i did learn a few things yesterday.

1. the evidence for green tea reducing belly fat is seeming to say that 6 cups of green tea a day does help

2. take calcium citrate, not carbonate

3. don't take calcium supplement at the same time you take multivitamin. The multivitamin has iron in it and that binds the calcium. So, take the multivitamin with meals, and the calcium with snacks.

4.don't eat any trans fat (I think we all know this, but...)

5.your plate should be 50% vegetables-preferably at least 2 kinds; 25% starch--at least 3/4 of that whole grains; 25% lean protein

6. eat at least six servings of vegetables a day, and 3-4 servings of fruit

7. eat 25-38 grams of fiber, and more if you can, daily. Increase fiber by 5 grams a day, remembering to drink water/fluids

8. American Dietetics Association has an informative website for the public

I'll tell more as I learn...

I hope you all have a good day. I'm going to go to the gym. I can't remember if I told you that my right knee has been acting up again and I am NOT happy about that. It likely means that I have to really cut back on the amount of weight I lift that involves my knee. :(

Hey everyone..

I am proud of you JoJo..10 pounds is a big amount !! I have been thinking about you this week . Glad you posted..

Rhonda..That list helps..thanks for posting . I didnt know about the calcium & vitamins, or about which calcium to take. I am trying to get better habits about taking my vitamins. My cholesterol was up when I did blood work and i think it is because I have been so slack about taking my meds the last 6 months. Robin would want me taking better care of myself so I am trying.

I had a nice few days at the beach with my cousin. She isn't much of a sand & waves type so I did what she likes but I do want to go back and sit & read all day on the beach with my toes in the water !!

My goal is to get to 140 (4 pounds) and then hold steady a few months.
I am trying to do sorta South Beach with lots of lean protein & fruits & veggies. As you know I like to cook the kids favorites when they are home so maintaining at 140 will be a good goal until my son leaves for college and then I will only have the foods I need to eat in the house.

Its too hot here for outdoor projects so I am going to work on some of my indoor list today.

EEEK -- crazy weather here in MA! TORNADOs touching down. Not good -- don't know how you ladies deal with these things. I was getting freaked out with the tornado warnings and listing of towns as I was driving home. The reccomendation was to abandon your car and seek shelter in a sturdy building or deep culvert. I just drove faster to get home. Its crazy tonight. This is MA! We don't get this stuff.........I'm stressing........

Hope you are all safe.

Good Morning Chicks! We're getting ready for the weekend. Hope to have our above ground pool opened on Saturday. We also have a recital for my Great Niece Godchild and 2 graduation parties. Sheesh. How's a girl to diet?

I'm just trying to keep my portions small. Thankfully most people have veggies and fruit now.

I'm online now shopping for my ereader that I'm buying myself for my late birthday present. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Nook color.

Hey, Paula. I'm glad your ok. I've been living with tornadoes all my life and it is STILL scary.

Rhonda, that's some great information. I can't take too much calcium because of my kidneys. Dr. Oz had a real interesting program on the other day about fat and waist busting eating and supplements. I wrote them down. I'll see if I can find the link.

good morning all.

Well, our a/c quit yesterday. We had this unit put in our house when we built in 2005. We have had nothing but trouble with it and the repairman is like family, we've had him here so often. I really believe we have a lemon, but the company won't back it up. We had Jeff here when we returned from Florida in April, he replaced the motor, and now it's on the malfunctioning again. It's suppose to be 96 for the next week. We paid over $12,000 for this GREAT unit, baloney, it's a piece of junk.

I grew up in Michigan so I know all too well about tornadoes. We have them here in KY too. Had touchdowns in both states, a little too close to home. Then we have the hurricanes to deal with in Florida, lol.

Vickie, please share what Dr. Oz said. I used to tape him in Florida, but forgot to set the dvr here in KY.

Nancy, I would be happy with 150 at this point, and I'm shorter than you. I commend you for staying at 140.

Rhonda, thanks for sharing your info. I need to start taking my calcium. I keep forgetting. I'll get the one you mentioned.

Been short of breath again lately. I can hardly breath when I walk up my drive, and that concerns me. I might just be out of condition, but with my arteries, it scares me. I'm not that heavy, that it should affect my breathing.

Hope Maryann is okay. I saw where MA had tornadoes and I know it's really scary for those that never had to experience one.

Good Morning Ladies:)

Had our first Tornado since [1953] in Springfield Mass.early evening around 4:15PM. Did lots of damage. They were predicting that we {cape} was going to have bad thunderstorms with hail but it never happened. We were lucky no storms around us at all.

Other than that all is quite. The sun is shinning and I going down to beach and get some walking done. I sang at the Vigil last night so this morning I free do what I want.

NANCY- Glad that you had a nice time at the beach with your cousin. Our beach water is too cold for swimming so they predicted not to staying the water too long for fear of hypothermia.

PAULA-Was that freaky and scary They predicted that the cape was going to have wild thunderstorms also, but fortunately it didn't come our way.

PAM-I'm fine,it didn't hit the CAPE I just came home from church and when I put the TV on I saw all the devastation and damage this storm did. We never have tornadoes up here,so now we know that we can get these storms now & in the future. Sorry about your A/C,you an get ac everywhere these day I saw the Christmas Tree Shop and Odd Job selling them.

Have to go,and ready for today's chores

calcium.....buy gelcaps if you can find them. The body can absorb only 500 grams at a time so most supplements are 500-600 grams and you take them twice....and get the kind with Vit D included because it helps with metabolism.

pam920
06-02-2011, 01:17 PM
I think the Vitamin D helps you absorb the calcium. Dr. Oz also says to take magnesium with the calcium. I take so many pills now, I haven't been taking my calcium, multi vitamin or magnesium. I took my last Niaspan(script) last night and thought I had another bottle, but no, so had to order them, which will take a week to get. That is one of the pills I wanted to quit taking.

PAM...thanks for the calcium info..I really need to get my vits into a routine.
I just saw your post about being short of breath. Please go get that checked out.. It is probably just the weather but it can be a heart warning symptom.
Not to scare you, because they can take care of almost anything if they catch in time.

I am going to redo my weight tracker to just show my short term goal .

So, my right knee has been a pain, literally, again. I'm getting a MRI next week.

Maryann, it's nice that you have the singing to enjoy. I wish I could really sing. It's such a gift to be able to.

Pam, I'm with Nancy. Get that shortness of breath checked out.

Yes, Vit D helps with the absorption...that's what I meant, but didn't actually say that.

So, they're talking about ending the "war on drugs" they say. I can tell you that public health told them 3 decades ago that it wouldn't work. I guess you know that the number 1 abused drugs are prescription medications.

And, the beat goes on....

Woke up to a cool & windy morning,it might of been a cold front that came to our area.
Going to the PB Club so I will have to take a wind breaker with me.

PAM-I used to watch the Dr Oz show and got lots of information from his show.I should go back as I still get his e-mail letter. My doctor of course doesn't like him, tells me he is a surgeon and not a doctor,he get s all his information at the beginning of his shows. So I don't mention anything I want to know that I heard it on the Dr Oz show. I agree I did hear about the calcium cocktail[calcium, mag & vit D.]

Morning chicks.

Hmmmm, you have to be a dr. to be a surgeon. Maryann, I've done a lot of research when I was diagnosed with heart disease and I've brought things up to my dr. He is pretty open minded. I really like him and what I really like about him is he doesn't rush me. He will sit and talk to me as long as I want. Answers all my questions. He knows me and my history. I'm not just a number to him. Not sure if I'll ever be able to say that about the cardio dr. I found in Florida. Time will tell. I see both dr's. One in KY and one in FL. Have fun and keep warm.

Our A/C repairman has ordered a new motor and suppose to overnight it. I hope it comes today, as it's suppose to be another scorcher, 96.

Rhonda, how many visits will you have with the nutritionist? She is giving good info. I agree aboiut the drugs. Dr's hand them out too freely. 4 yrs ago, I wasn't taking a single pill and now I've lost count on how many I should take. Of course most are supplements and the rest are for my CAD. My kids used to kid me that an aspirin would put me to sleep.

Where is Sandra? did jojo leave us again?

Nancy, I see my dr. in Sept and if I'm still having problems with my breathing, I will let him know. It's not the heat, been going on for a while now. Just noticing it more. No chest pains, so that is good.

hey chicks! I've been missin' y'all, but I have been so focused on wedding planning and "end of the school year" stuff that I have not taken the time to post. I also think I have avoided posting 'cause I was getting sick of, and embarrassed, about posting about how I need to get this weight off but never doing it. As of today, I have not managed to lose even one of the hateful pounds that I let creep back over the last year. It seems like each day I say to myself "today is the day" , but by the end of the day, I am off track. You would think with a wedding in four months, I would be motivated, but I'm
not:(. I know that eating core foods was perfect for me, so I know that is the way I should go. Hopefully I will get organized, do some pre-cooking, and get on with it. I know for sure that posting here is also a must.

On a fun note, my daughter's engagement photos are on her photographer's blog. If you are interested you can go to LolaFayephotography.com to see them. The pics are in one of the first posts and are Alice inWonderland-esque. Just look for the photos with a patchwork quilt. Hope you all are well. Stay cool!

Good Morning Chicks! Now begins our graduation, confirmation, birthday party marathon. Sigh. It will be great fun but an eating challenge.

Pam....don't wait until September. Please.

Rhonda, you are so cool. I love the way you research and continue to learn. I adore being around Teachers.

Gotta run. Have to write the Brodie dog walker instruction notes and eat breakfast. Jim is at PT right now. Lordy.

nancy237
06-03-2011, 12:05 PM
Pam..here is an idea if we can't get you to go in immediately.

Call the nurse for your Dr and pose the question. "with this symptom is it okay to wait til Sept??"

I don't want to scare you but it can be the only warning sign you get of
a problem . If it were something like that they can take care of it and
prevent a serious occurance. Robin's dad ignored the shortness of breath
and wouldn't listen to us to get it checked and 2 weeks later he died.
I hate to be so blunt but I care and think you need to hear that.

I am doing pretty good during the day when I am busy but having trouble sleeping. Then I start looking at photos and that makes the nights even sadder
and makes it harder to sleep. I need to get on a better schedule. That's always been my weakness (ADD type that I am ) and its worse now.

I am considering buying a nice dsl digital camera. I have an interest in photograghy and the point & shoot is so limited . Robin had been on me for years to just go bite the bullet and get one. Does anyone have a Nikon
or Canon Rebel. I have nice 35 mm lenses for a nikon that I was told would fit a new Nikon.

we love hearing from you no matter what is going on ...
never be embarressed...

we want to know how your mom is, how you are , about your projects , how the wedding plans are and only about your diet when you want to chat about it.

You have told me before that certain times are maybe times to just maintain til the hectic dies down.

But if you want a 5 pound challenge let me know .I am ready !!

Nancy, you're a doll. You'll come through this....and we are always here. My friends have recommended a Nikon and a Canon. I'm considering two different ones until I save my pennies. Of course, by the time I save different cameras will be better. But they recommended the Nikon D3100 or the Canon EOS Rebel T2i D-SLR. Both were in the $650 to $800 range last I checked. Hope that helps.

Sloan, Sandra always tells me that when we feel off kilter and not doing what we should that is EXACTLY when we need to be here. I love living vicariously!!

I hope you are all doing well. I've been so busy with end of school stuff. Only 2 weeks left then we can get into our summer routine.

Nancy, I have a nikon P100. Love it -- its a bigger camera with a great nikon lense. I don't know if the lense comes off or not. With the one I have I can't see the need for another lense - its a great zoom lense.

Off to Japanese hibachi tonight with dd, and some friends. There will be 3 moms and 5 girls. Should be fun!

Sloan, I've been learning in the exercise world that they don't even talk about "motivation." They just do it. No excuses, no agonizing about whether they want to do something or not. Just go to the gym and do it. I'm trying to learn the same approach to food. Bad for you? Don't eat it. Good for you? Eat it. Simple.

Had a wonderful time at the PB club. We saw a video called Underwater Universe-Predators of the Deep with 5 dangerous animals that kill humans.
5)killer whales
4)huge squid[forgot the name]
3)jelly fish[man of war]
2)crocodiles
1)the great white shark
My friend Rita told me she's going to thing twice before going out in the deep water. No Alice didn't go with us as she has a bad case of shingles.Need some prayers for her to heal soon.

We have another beautiful cool day and nice for sleeps and walking along the beach. Our building looks lovely now that it s painted, and it with look nicer once our new shudders are up.

Otherwise nothings new,I lost 1lb this week but it always the same pound over & over again. I down on my calories and portions but the scale isn't budging.I think it has a lot to do with exercising, but I can't walk or do other forms of activity like I used to.I guess I'll chalk it up to old age.

PAM- I know, but my doctor some how doesn't like Dr. Oz for some reason.I love my doctor also hes so easy to talk to and since I know him for over 14 years he does give me time when I need real answers to questions. So I guess you & I are the lucky ones to have such nice doctors.

SLOANE-Happy that your back posting. Hey don't be embarrassed about weight problems we're all in the same board. Gee I can't to seems to get my weight down no matter what I try, but I'm not giving up.

NANCY-My DH was the photographer in the family my DD followed in his footsteps so I gave his Rebel camera to her. I think she has that 35 lens.About sleep maybe you can get a mild sleeping pill prescription from your doctor. My doctor gave me Lorazepam 0.5mg when my DH passed away. They worked for me,and than after a few weeks I didn't need them anymore. Just a thought.

VICKIE-Have a great time with all the activities you are engaged in. Don't worry about food just eat in portions.

Have a great day, have to start my chores.

Good Morning Chicks! Went last night to the 18th birthday/high school graduation party for the youngest daughter of my best friend who died 4 years ago. She's turned into an incredible young woman and I know Cindy would have been beaming with her heart bursting of joy. We were pleased as punch to be invited since my friend's husband is dating someone new. It was the first time we were to the house since Cindy died. It was emotional and hard and I was determined to be normal and not get her daughter all upset on such a joyous day. I succeeded and did not do too much emotional eating which is my normal pattern.

This morning was a recital for my God daughter, her last in preschool. She starts kindergarten in the Fall. Where on earth is time going?

More parties today. Confirmation and elementary school graduation.

Tomorrow is a pajama day!

It is hotter than blazes here.....well I'm exaggerating a bit. It's 89 and that is unusual for us this early in June. Our back yard pool got opened today. I've been too busy to check the temperature of the water. I'm sure it's too cold to go in yet. It's always good exercise for me though.

My heel spurs (2 in my left foot) are still keeping me from exercise. I had a cortisone shot on Tuesday but so far it's not helping much. I couldn't take all the ibuprofen he wanted me to take because of my kidneys. My Nephrologist almost fainted when I asked her if I could take 1800 mgs a day for a month. The foot doctor said anything less than that don't bother. So ice and the shot and PT is what I'm hanging my hat on. I'm not losing any weight though because I'm not exercising. With all the parties and events that I've been too since the beginning of May, I'm pretty darned proud that I'm maintaining.

So that's what's up with me. Oh yeah, Jim is still going to PT for his back and it's feeling a bit better. He fell this morning over a cord so I'm hoping he didn't set his back recovery back. Sheesh......

Light and love to all of you. What's your plan for the weekend?

Hi there, ladies. I just came in from shooting. Vickie, it's hotter than normal here, too. Seems summer just hopped right on in with not enough spring. I wore my Frogg Toggs Chilli Danna on my head. Was I cute or what! At least it kept me cool. I did some shooting yesterday without it and got red-faced and sweaty. Today--my nose ran a bit but that was all. I think that was from smoke in the air.

Maryann, don't worry about the exercise. Just do what you can. It sounds like your eating's going well. Sometimes that's as good as it gets.

Vickie, you're a strong lady. It had to be hard going to your best friend's home and seeing her husband with someone else. I know you want him to be happy, but it still had to hurt.

Paula, congrats on getting back to WW. You'll do well and will also be a help to others there.

Welcome back Sloan. I've missed you. Now tell us about the upcoming wedding. We're waiting to hear.

Well, I spent my morning as a vendor at the Denton County Community Market, flogging my jewelry. I sold 4 necklace-earring sets and took an order for one more. That's the best I've done anywhere, but I think I want to make some new, younger-looking things for this market. Only 2 customers were wearing necklaces of any type. Of course, it is a casual Saturday morning market, not fancy at all.

I was so sleepy afterwards that I took a 2 hour nap, then laid around for an hour.

Maryann, just do what you can, as you know. Vickie, good for you for not overeating in reaction to stress. I'm glad that Cindy's family keeps you in the fold. That's important for everyone.

Its almost 4 am here and I am wide awake , my oldest son just came in from Boone & we have been chatting , and my younger son just got home from a friends . We are such night owls. They are out now with a fire in the fire ring.
If I move, I am not sure we will adjust well to being in a neighborhood with neighbors we will bother with our 4 am activities.

My daughter hosted a pool party here for her homeroom class today and it was nice to have lots of people around. Robin would have had the pool area looking much better but we did a decent job.

One of the moms is a realtor and gave me lots of great tips about fixing up the house.

Tomorrow is my Birthday lunch with the family & surprise get together back at the house . I am still deciding where I want go eat.

Having family around is so helpful right now.

Nancy, I hope you have a wonderful time with your family and that they are helpful to you. Good for that woman for giving you tips about selling. I believe that people are really attracted to cleanliness! I couldn't believe the state of some of the houses I went to when I was going to open houses to get ideas about decorating when I sold my house. Creepy!

I'm off to breakfast with the family, then to church.

Maryann, I don't like swimming in the ocean--I became a very spoiled pool-side rat as a young person. I like my water to have chlorine, concrete sides and bottom. Of course, you can swim in cold lakes where nothing can live! :dunno:

Have a great day everyone.

Morning chicks.

Nancy, you are probably snug in bed right now. I'm glad you have family close by and I know they are a comfort to you. Have you decided where you want to eat? My choice would be Carrabbas. Always consistent and their food is so good. Happy Birthday to you.

Rhonda, doing the happy dance for you. You really should think about Etsy. I think the jewelry does well on there.

Sandra, it's so hot here too. What happened to Spring? It goes from cold to hot in a flash.

Maryann, congrats on the pound. I know what you mean about the same one over and over. Same here.

Vickie, I'm sure it was rough seeing your friends husband with someone new, but I'm sure Cindy would have wanted it that way. Life goes on. Hope your Scottie is drinking. Try adding a little chicken broth to his water. One time my dog had a reaction to a med and wouldn't drink and my sis suggested the chicken broth (just a tad) and it worked.

I think I told you my daughter graduated from Cosmetology school. She is going to open a shop with another classmate. They are renting a building in town. They have to go in there and fix the place and it's a mess. I'm helping them. I love to decorate, that is my passion. They aren't officially opening it until Sept, so it will give us plenty of time to make it really nice. They are both working at another shop in town in the meantime.

Hope you all have a great Sunday.

Did I tell ya'll I failed my scuba diving test a few years ago. I was a great scuba diver in the pool; but when I got in the ocean, I panicked. I was hollering, "Curtis, get me out of here!!!!!" We knew then that scuba diving wasn't for me. I do some snorkeling, though, but panic when something looks back at me.

Nancy, your evening with your boys sounds great. I love the idea of chatting around a fire ring. Where did you choose to eat?

Ladies, if you're to be out in the heat much, I highly recommend Frogg Togg Chilli Dannas. We got ours off the net.

We just got home from doing mission work in Fort Worth. We always come home feeling uplifted.

Have a great evening, everyone.

Good Morning Chicks!

Thanks for understanding how hard it was for me to see Cindy's family, especially her husband happy with a new person.

I'm off to JC this morning and WW later. I feel like I'm starting over again.

I'll be back later.
