Morning everyone,
Aleka, shovel a path to that computer. Your well will be full all year from the sounds of it. We still have had no recordable moisture here. It is all around us, but we are like a doughnut hole. We've missed it all. I may have to go out and water the flower beds just to keep things from dying from lack of water. Now that would be a first, watering plants in January in Iowa. The cats are actually losing their winter fur, just like it's spring. I'm afraid they will be in for a bad surprise when winter finally hits here. They go in and out of the garage through a cat door DH installed for them last fall and it's heated, so they are ok.

Anne, back to work today? Poor Anne. I hope they do something about that  and you guys have a:angel: next time. Another thing my old job would do with people like that is to reassign them to better jobs. That's the government for you, if someone screws up, give them a better job with more money. It happens all the time down here.

I feel better today, so I won't go to the Dr. I still have a runny nose and feel crappy, but my sore throat is better. My eye lids are starting to heal up too. I tried a different kind of cream on them yesterday as the antibacterial ointment was doing nothing but make my vision blur. I will be able to exercise today, just have to get in there and do it. Get up from the pc and move to another room, come on Nik, you can do it. I have had too much coffee. Just bought a new coffee maker and I'm discovering lots of different kinds of flavors. And a new joy of caffiene, obviously. Take care, and step careful today ladies!

ANNE, are you feeling any better? Hopefully it will be a good day at work for you.

nikki, you must be having really nice weather to be able to water your plants in Jan. I know what you are going through with lack of water. We had an awfully dry summer, but we seem to be making up for it this winter. We haven't had this bad of a winter in a long time. There was another storm yesterday, but stayed well south of us, and I believe there is another southern storm hitting someplace today...thankfully not here. Glad your sore throat is better, colds are very nasty.

Jennifer, how is the SB coming along? The reason I find it confusing, is that there are no guidelines to follow. I am hoping the new book will explain things a little better for me.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Hi Everyone!

I'm feeling better everyday now. I am however, very
nervous walking along on ice or slush or wet subway floors.
I guess it will take me a while to get over the experience
of falling:yikes:

I really hope something happens to improve our work
enviroment. I find it incredible that in 2003 that such a
dreadful person would be put in charge. Maybe when the
survey results come out the top brass will get a wake-up call.
When  passed me today she just put a pained expression
on her face and mumbled Happy New Year.

Nikkic, I am glad you feeling better. Its nasty business to be
sick!!

Aleka, we are getting more snow almost everyday this week!
My one son is happy because he shovels snow for the
neighbours and makes abit of money.

Are you folks going to watch Dr. Atkins tonight on Larry King?
I am going to tape it for sure.

Anne.

Just a quick note-
Aleka, tomorrow, it is suppose to be 59 degrees and the next day 66 degrees. I can't believe it's Iowa. I am afraid the plants will begin to think it's spring and start to bud.

Anne, I was afraid of stairs for over a year. I could not walk down them, I had to scoot on my butt down them. I can walk down them now, but for some reason my leg will not work right going down stairs so I have to kind of slide along the wall to get down them. If there is a rail, I can hold on to that, but I still have to take them one at a time. It takes awhile to get over fear. Give yourself time and don't feel bad or like you should try not to be. You will feel more confident as time passes. Our one shopping channels down here has these rubber shoe covers with cleat like things on the bottoms of them, you pull them on over your shoes and you can safely walk on ice. Have you seen them on your shopping channel? They look dorky, but so what. I bought a pair for me and my daughter. She use to have to walk to work in the winter and it saved her a few times.

Oh, I gave a testimonial on HSN (shopping channel) today. It was for the Smart Technique tapes, I was on at 1235pm. I got so nervous, I lost all the thoughts in my head and couldn't remember anything I wanted to say. They quit talking to me, so I thought I was done and hung up. Then they started to talk to me again and Mindy said, I think she hung up. It was the first time I've done that. What fun!

We are having a nice sunny day for a change, and I believe it's going to be a bit warmer.

Went to WW this morning, and it didn't do all that bad. I gained 1 1/2 lb over the holiday. Most everybody else was in the same boat, so I didn't feel all that bad.

nikki, Wow!!! You gave a testimonial on HSN!! :cb: I'm so sorry I missed it. What did you tell them about the tapes? Do they ask you certain questions to make sure you have positive things to say before putting you through to the host? One time Suzanne & Colleen were on I ordered something, and at the end they told me to hold on to talk to the show host. I was a :chicken: and hung up. With all that great weather you're having....don't be surprised if you find me on your doorstep with bags in hand.

ANNE, glad that you're feeling better. I've got my fingers crossed that something will be done about your boss.:crossed: :crossed:
We seem to be getting a lot of snow showers which makes for messy driving.

Have a good day everybody.

Evening everyone,
One of my new years resolutions is to be a bit more brave. I am naturally, a coward. I have also, begun to reclaim my house in the last couple of days. A few weeks before I broke my ankle, the main water line into the house burst. It was a long time before the water company came out here to turn off our water. DH tried, but couldn't, it had to be out in the street. Anyway, the basement and tons of things were soaked. I spent the next few weeks sorting and trying to salvage things. Then, after I fell down the stairs, that stopped. DH had no idea what I wanted to save and get rid of. He has no idea what's even down there, except for the washer and dryer. Now, 2 years later, I've begun to finally get back to it. I can not believe the mold, the dirt, the cobwebs and size of some of those spiders. I could have done this a few months ago, but it seemed like such a big, hard job, I just ignored it. The same garbage bags were sitting down there from 2 years ago. There is a bottle of muradic acid from when we had an above ground pool, 7 years ago. The thing has practically decomposed and is ready to burst. I have not even got to some parts of the basement. There is a closet under the stairs that I am afraid to go into. But, with the vacuum, rubber gloves and a brave heart, I will be going in. But, not tomorrow. The weather will be in the 60's and that will be a good day to wash a few windows and stay above ground.

Aleka, HSN's person asked me how long I'd had it and what kind of results I'd had. They were very nice. You can come over anytime. But if you do, be prepared to clean.

Hi Everyone!
Suzanne was on several of our news channels here in Toronto
today and on talk radio promoting her new book. I can't
beleive she is 56!!! Man, does she look great!

Something interesting about the Dr. Atkins interview on Larry
King the other night. He was mentioning low body temperature
as an indicator that your thyroid might not functioning as well
as it should.

Guess what, my temperature is alway between 97-97.5
degrees. It may be in the genes though, my dad has
the same temperature as me and he is quite trim.

Hope everyone is well.
Anne.

We got 4 more inches of snow overnight. They say that this will be the last in the series of little storms that have come through. I hope they're right.

ANNE, that's funny because my temp usually runs below 98.6 too. I had my thyroid checked a few yrs. ago, and it's normal. Suzanne has been on a few channels here too. On Mon. she was on the Today show. Katie Couric interviewed her, and it wasn't a very positive interview. At one point, Suzanne showed Katie the cream cheese pancakes, and Katie crossed herself, and when Suzanne showed her something else, Katie literally turned her nose up to it. Another time Katie said that Suzanne's WOE went against her beliefs. Needless to say, there were quite a few negative comments on SS's website re: the interview. The next day Suzanne was on The View, and that was a much better interview. As a matter of fact, at the end of the show, they gave everyone in the audience a copy of Suzanne's new book. She will be on HSN this weekend.

nikki, have you gotten to the basement yet? I really do have some cleaning out to do. I just have to make up my mind and throw things away. Even my closet has to be cleaned out. I keep finding other things better to do!;) Sure, I'll clean, but I don't do windows.

Where is everybody?

Have a great day everyone :balloons:

Hi,
Aleka, I think I've seen some of the people that were posting here on other threads. Also, probably the holidays have claimed a few back to no diet land.

I didn't see the interviews with SS, but I've been on the HSN boards, ever since you told me about them, and they were pretty p.o.'d about Katie C.'s attitude with SS too. Nobody had anything good to say about KC. I quit watching the news and news programs years ago. It just makes me anxious and upset. DH tells me if there is something I just need to know.

I recently read something about the thyroid. I just can't remember where right now. Anyway, it said that if you don't eat enough carbs, your thyroid hormone production will be reduced and send you into an artificial state of hypothyroidism. If you go to the Dr. and have it checked, they may start you on thyroid medication when you really don't need it, you just need more carbs. Seems like I remember something like that in Schwarzbeins books too. I'll have to go check it out. It's amazing what diet can do, either a poor or unbalanced diet. I'm not saying carbs or excessive carbs are good, just going too low for too long probably is.

DH and I went down and threw out 2 pick up truck loads of old clothes and crap from the basement yesterday. I also washed a few windows and the door windows, it was almost impossible to see out.

I've been reading a book called Sink Reflections by Marla Cilley. It is about getting your home and life in order. I started it because I needed some motivation to get stuff done, but it is also helping me internally. She says when you've got to clean something-closet, basement, whatever, don't think about what your going to do with something too long. Decide if it has any value for you-does it bring you joy, is it useful. If not or if it makes you unhappy-get rid of it. I've put off doing the basement because I was unable to make decisions about stuff down there. Like my mom and dads coats. I've had them for years and I didn't want to part with them. But they were practically desintegrated and were really in bad shape. I finally just tossed them, and it felt good. I also went through years of clothes that were hanging up. I always thought I'd have a big rummage sale and make money on them. When I got done, there was only one bag that was really worth messing with, there were over 15 bags of things that were too damaged or too old to even try to sell. So, I'm giving the good ones to Helping Hands and the rest went to the landfill.

Today, I'm doing very little. I will have to get back at it tomorrow.
Hey, I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 5 lbs. since the 1st. Anne, your going to weigh in a few days, right? I bet you'll be surprised too.

Take care, Nikki

Did you check out the SS boards after her interview with Katie Couric? If not, check it out, hopefully the thread will still be there. I'm wondering if KC got a ton of hateful e mails? It really was unprofessional what KC did. After I read your post I checked the HSN website to look at their posts. They weren't very happy with it either.

Hi Everyone:

Nikkic! Wow, 5 pounds:cp: :cb: That is so great. I will check
my weight on Saturday, while I have been good since the
first of January I really lived it up during the holidays:lol:

We are getting more snow here today and I am disgusted.
Naturally I am still creeping around because I am scared to
walk fast after my fall last Friday.

Dad went back to the doctor on Wednesday and he is
being referred to an Oncologist. His tumour is the size of a
quarter so its still quite small thank God. His cancer is called
squamous cell carcicoma. I hope it does not take too long for
the new doctor to book him in.

We will be so happy in the summer that we have done so great
on our diets ladies. YESSSSSSS!

Hello everyone:wave:

Nikki-congratulations on the 5lbs :hat: That book you are reading "sink reflections" have you visited Martha Cilley's website yet? I am currently implementing the Flylady program into my home and am participating in the website's current declutter challenge.

So far I have tossed/recycled/given away 53 magazines, 10 cookbooks I've never used, and 35lbs of junk and old clothes-it's been very liberating :D

Anne-that's great that the tumour is so small- I hope your dad's doctor can take care of him asap :crossed:

Aleka- I did not see the Today show but Katie Couric's behavior seems very unprofessional. I will check out the SS boards later tonight to see what is going on . BTW I love the new cookbook!:chef:

Hi to Jennifer, Ginamarie, SuGeorgia, Mandapanda and Tazcat!

Oh boy!

I just popped over to the SS site and I didn't see anything about the Today show. Maybe be am I not looking in the right place :?:

I did however find a fight between one person and several others, full of drama and nasty comments :yikes: This isn't the first time I've seen that over there and that is what makes me hesitant about posting on that site. I do however enjoy the other information and recipes.

I am so glad that the 3fc site is not like that :) I find the majority of people here very nice, friendly and supportive no matter what plan we follow. Glad to have all you on this little freestyle thread of ours :grouphug:

Morning everyone,
Mauvaisroux, I'm so happy to hear from you. Yes, I've gone to the website- www.flylady.net if anyone wants to look it up. It is helpful, but I find the book more organized or easier for me to get into. I get her emails all the time and her daily essays are great and very thoughtful and thought provoking. I've got my journal, haven't really started to do it right yet though. I do the 27 boogie fling every morning and it is very helpful. My sink is shiny all the time now, my home is no longer in chaos as I "bless" my home evey day now:lol: . I've still got a ways to go on the basement. But things are getting better everywhere. I have never even considered getting rid of any cookbooks. I did reorganize them. And tossed a few old cooking magazines. I will have to think about that later, when I have the basement done. There are books that no longer give me any joy and are not useful.
I haven't been over to the SS website for a long time. I found the arguing to be tedious and on going. I posted for awhile, but I finally just left. It is not a supportive environment like it is here. I feel freer to speak here, without fear of being scolded for making a bad decision with my diet, my life or whatever. Besides, there is you say anything against SS or the SS products, your going to be deleted.

Anne, I hope your dad's new Dr is able to give your dad more help and that he can get in soon. I've been reading a lot about diet, nutrition and cancer lately.

Aleka, has it quit snowing? We have had no moisture yet. But the weather is now cold and bitter outside and the sky is gray, so possibly we will.

I figured out yesterday that I passed the 50 lbs lost mark now. I am down 52 lbs. since starting. We had to go out to eat to celebrate that one. I'm a pound heavier this morning from that.:s:
I really think this summer, I will be so much more comfortable.

Later, Nikki

aleka
01-10-2003, 01:20 PM
nikki, congratulations on losing 5 more lb.!:cp: :hat: WA-HOO 52 lb. altogether. That's is so fantastic!!! :bravo: :cb: :high: You should feel soooo proud of yourself :smug: We got another inch of snow overnight. I had a dentist appt. this morning to get a tooth prepped for a crown, and it was a little hairy driving there.
I usually don't post on SS site, but I do read the posts to see who is arguing with who. You're right, it's not like this site at all where you can talk about other things that are going on in your life besides dieting. I heard this morning on one of the morning shows when they do the weather, that it's supposed to get colder in your area.

ANNE, are you feeling a lot better since your fall? That's good news that your Dad's tumor is small, they caught it in time. Hope the Dr. can see him soon. Has it been snowing there every day like it has been here?

mauvaisroux, glad to hear from you. The thread with the comments about the Today Show, was posted Jan. 7th and you'd probably have to go back a few days to view it. It's called, Suzanne on Today Show. I think I know the fight you're talking about on SS site. I couldn't get over some of the things that were said.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone!

It's been snowing here a bit too and the temperature has been in the -15c to -20c with the wind chill, BRRRRR!

I started back to my dance class yesterday -what a blast! We are preparing a routine for a performance in April.

Aleka-I didn't see a thread with that title on the SS site. That thread I was talking about was someone asking about portable lunches-I don't know how it turned so ugly :?: One poor person posted there for the first time and was so upset she left- I felt really bad for her and wished I could have told her about 3fc. It is too bad because I like SS and have all her books now and love the Woe.

DH and I joined a gym on Friday. We start after work on Monday evening:cb: I can't wait to get started.

Well, gotta run and make dinner now!

Hope you all have a great week :)

aleka
01-13-2003, 08:00 AM
I hope you all had a good weekend. It finally stopped snowing, but it's getting colder.

mauvaisroux, I didn't see the tread about portable lunches. The one I saw was this newbie who was asking a lot of questions, and with each new question, there was a new thread. One of the more experienced SSzers started a new thread especially for that newbie, with some snooty remarks:snooty: about all her questions. Well, that created a regular hullaballoo! I believe that thread has been deleted. I really felt sorry for the poor girl.
Good luck at the gym tonight. That's great you started back to your dance class. What is the routine you are preparing for? Have fun!

nikki, I hate winter too:( Last year though, we had a pretty decent winter. Hardly any snow and we didn't get the frigid temps that we're getting now, not to mention the snow we've gotten. We are leaving for FL towards the end of Feb. for 2-3 weeks and I'm looking forward to going. My IL's are down there for the winter, and DH & I are going down to visit.

Have a great day everyone.

HI everyone,
We are in a drought. We are 25" below normal and have had less rain every year for the last 3 years. We have had no rain or snow for over 60 days now. But it is sure cold.

My weight loss has kind of teeter toddered this week. First a drop and now a gain. I'm thinking it's water and tom thing happening. I just love being a girl.

I don't know why, but all the boards, except for thankfully this one, are having some kind of war going on. Or at least a big fight. There is one that started on the QVC beauty board and went over to the HSN beauty board and some people got so mad, they just quit. Then today, I said something and got into some trouble too. It's funny how some people read things differently. I've also noticed that some people don't read things well and then misinterpret what what said in the first place or think that someone else said something. I do not mean here of course, I'm talking about other places I've been. Gosh, I'm getting pretty paranoid about saying anything at all now. Maybe I better just post here and forget about those other boards.:)

Aleka, we've always wanted to take a winter vacation to somewhere warm. I will be so green with envy when you go. And 2-3 weeks too. Man, how sweet.

Anne, how are you doing?

Mauvaisroux, still going to the gym tonight? I haven't done something like that in years.

I'm still cleaning the basement. I think it will be another week before it's completely done. So much stuff, it's amazing what a person accumulates over a lifetime. I was thinking about my parents house when I had to clean it out. They had 50 years of egg cartons saved in the basement. Why do people save that stuff for so long? They didn't even have chickens. And they kept every washer they ever had, even when it quit working. Mom still had her old scrub board from when she washed the clothes by hand and her first wringer washer too. They lived through the depression though, so that was the reason for keeping everything.

Well, got to go do something productive. Later, Nikki

Hey Nikkic, way to go, over that 50 pound mark!!!!:cp: :cb:
I got weighted on Saturday and I have gained a couple of
pounds. I am sure by the end of this week that should be
gone. It used to be nothing for me to gain 10-15 pounds
during the holidays :o .
Have you guys heard all this awful stuff about Pete Townsend?
I don't know what the heck to think. I hope its not true but I
would be suprised if they would take him away in cuffs if it was
only for questioning.

I have been so busy these last days at work. I have been working in the cash office and you might guess in a hospital
setting its nuts.

I am the only one there this week so the volume is huge.

Hi everyone!

Aleka- my belly dance class is giving a performance sometime this spring. We are doing a really fun routine with veils at the beginning and then we toss the veils aside and start the dance toa really lively song- it is so much fun. I am hoping to find some material to make a skirt and a matching veil in time for the show.

Nikki- I actually made it to the gym tonight and really enjoyed it. I went for a 40 minute swim and it was great. I am planning on going 3 nights per week and once on the weekend plus my dance class on Saturday mornings - I should see some body shrinkage in no time  I actually walked to the gym from work tonight (almost a 25 minute walk) despite the lovely temperature of -20c with the wind chill-:yikes: if it is that cold on Wednesday I will be taking the bus:)

Anne- what happened to Pete Townsend? Have things gotten any better at your work? That is great that you didn't gain that much over the holidays :) It may not seem like much but if you were gaining 10 to 15 before at the holidays then you did really well :cp: good on you! And what a good start for the New Year!

nikkic
01-13-2003, 11:46 PM
Evening Chicklets,
Anne, I think that is wonderful that you have only gained a couple of pounds. I think the average for most people is around 10 lbs. during the holiday, it was for me too. But I won't bother to lose it and you know where that leads. I just don't really know what's going on in the world. What was PT suppose to have done?

Mauvaisroux, oh that sounds so cold. I have been so frozen all day. I was even cold under the covers. Now I have a small heater on next to me and several layers of clothes and I'm finally warm, but I don't want to move from this little space.

Someday, DH and I have always dreamed of becoming gypsies and camping across the US. We have a really old camper, a 1973, it's a lovely avocado green. At least we won't be making big payments all of our lives.;) I know we will never be able to, but we always talk about it. Our family obligations just won't let us go very far away. Man, I sure wish we could be snowbirds and go south for the winter though.

BIG NEWS!
Just found out my breast reduction has been approved. I am so happy and excited. It is scheduled for Feb. 19th. I'll stay over night and then be laid up for a week after. DH already knows what this means. He will have to do everything around here. He is kind of spoiled and doesn't usually do anything in the house, now that I don't work. Well, got to go back to the basement and clean some more. Just wanted to let you guys know. I'm not telling anyone but you all(and everyone else that reads this thread:) ), a few other chicks and the immediate family. Don't want to spread it all over town.
I'll be dancing all over that basement this afternoon, I'm so happy!

aleka

nikki, I can't get over some of the fights on other boards. I don't know why people can't be civil to one another. That's terriffic news about your breast reduction being covered. Will you have to spend more than that one night in the hosp? Ya, I'm like that too re: surgical procedures. When I had a hysterectomy 9 yrs. ago I only told the people who were closest to me. My MIL sort of has a big mouth, and I didn't want it spread, so I asked her not to mention it to anybody until it was over, then I didn't care who knew it.

ANNE, putting on 2 lb. over the holiday is very good. I heard the news about Pete Townsend. I was shocked. I too hope it isn't true. I was also saddened to hear that Maurice Gibb passed away.

mauvaisroux, your dance routine sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm sure you will have a great time performing. What color are you thinking of making your skirt & veil?

nikki & mauvaisroux, I didn't hear the whole story re: Pete Townsend, just the headline, and it had something to do with child pornography (sp?)

Take care and have a great day.

Hi Everyone!
We are still in the deep freeze here in Toronto last winter was
so mild its hard to get use to this stuff again!

Nikkic, so glad to hear your surgery has been approved. I
had a friend I used to work with a few years ago who really
had a major improvement with her B>R>surgery. Her back
used to bring her to tears with the pain.:(

Aleka I was sorry to hear about Maurice Gibb too. I used to
like the Brothers Gib especially some of their older tunes before
they went disco. He was so young......

I don't know about Pete, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
At the moment I want to give him the benefit of the doubt.
The truth will come out though. I find it awfully hard to beleive
myself.

Hello everyone!

Brrrrrrrr! It was -32c with the wind chill this morning. I have felt cold all day.

Nikki-that is great news that your reduction will be covered! I'm sure it will help you a lot once everything is done and over with.

Aleka- I have a purple bellydance hip scarf that has silver beads and coins on it as well as sparkly dark purple beads. I know that I will never match up the purple fabric so I thought of using a shiny silver fabric for the underskirt and a sheer silver fabric overlay and using the same sheer fabric to make a matching veil.
I have some extra silver coins and silver sequins that I can use to trim the veil and the bottom of the skirt.

Anne-I can scarcely believe that about Pete Townsend! What a shock! I really hope that it is not true.

Thank you all for understanding. DH does, but my DD don't or at least they didn't. DH says it must be like walking around with 2 ten pound bags of wet concrete hanging from your neck all the time. I thought this was a pretty good discription of what it is like. The DD's I think didn't understand cause they are so young. I explained to them that this has caused a lot of shoulder pain, my vertebraes in my upper back and neck are wrecked and I have a lot of skin problems in the summer. They finally got it, but still asked me if I was going to go braless in the summer. I promised, I would not do that.

Mauvaisroux, your outfit your making sounds so beautiful. It's like fairytail kind of dressing. When I was a kid I always wanted to wear something like that. Sounds so beautiful and exotic. You are so adventerous and fun.

Anne, your work sounds very hard and tense. Try to make time to take a bubble bath tonight. Light a candle and put on some soothing music to block out the rest of the world for 10 min. Like a little mini vacation, just for you.

Aleka, I am almost afraid to respond to anyone on the other boards now. Some of those people are not just mean, they're a bubble off center. I don't know why I'm surprised, but it still makes me wonder what kind of kick some people get out of being so distruptive on the boards.

Well, back to the basement for me. I have finally sorted out all the stuff. I have a massive pile of stuff for the kids to look through and see what they want, then I'm taking the remainders of that to Goodwill and the dump. I'm cleaning down spiderwebs and dust from the ceiling, walls and shelves in the back room today. It's amazingly dirty. It will be so nice to have this all done and the basement looking and (smelling) better.

Hi Everyone::wave:

Did anyone watch Connie Chung last night on CNN? She had
Carnie Wilson on. She has lost over 150 pounds after having
her stomach stapled. She looks great, I must say.

My dad goes for his first visit to his oncologist Thursday. I hope
they can give him treatment of some kind to keep his spirits up
there.

It is freezing here in Toronto. I can't believe how yucky this
weather has been:p

Hope everyone is keeping well, I have a cold myself so I'm
abit down. Its one of those colds that you keep waking up
in the night with a choking cough.

Talk to you later,
Anne.

Evening ladies,
Anne, I didn't see the interview with Carnie, but I almost got a resection because of her. Right before I started to Somersize, I was looking into it. There is a website, if you want the address I could look it up, that I was looking around on. It's for support and help if you want to get one or have had one. I learned a lot there. The most important thing was that the food you can eat afterward is really full of chemicals and not natural. The second thing was that they had a special area for all of the people that have died. Either from the surgery or from complications following the surgery. I wanted to lose weight really badly then and almost went for it. I'm so glad I didn't. It really screws up your digestive tract and your never the same again. There is a new proceedure with the band. It can be removed later.

I'll be thinking of you and your dad tomorrow. Hope things go well and they can start treatment or at least give him some idea when they can start it.

It's cold here too and we have snow coming. That's what they say anyway. Tomorrow night the windchill is suppose to be -10.

I read a joke tonight that is kind of cute.
At a stop light, this blonde gets out of her car and runs over to the truck in the next lane. She beats on the window and says, "Hi, my name is Heather and your losing some of your load."
The guy just looks at her, and drives on. At the next light, she gets out, runs over to the truck, beats on the window and says, "Hi, my name is Heather and your losing some of your load." This happens again at the next light too. At the 4th light, the guy speeds up, gets out of his truck first, and knocks on her window. When she puts it down, he says, "Hi, my name is Kevin. This is Iowa and I'm driving a salt truck."

Maybe I liked it cause I'm blonde.

Yesterday I met my GF for an early lunch and we saw the movie, Maid in Manhattan. It was really a good movie. While at the movie theater we saw some previews of other movies we both wanted to see. So, that should keep us busy this winter.

ANNE, how did you Dad make out at the oncologist today? Hope things went well. It's freezing here too and it doesn't seem like it's going to end anytime soon. I hate winter. No, I didn't see Connie Chung on CNN. I have seen Carnie Wilson on other programs and she looks fabulous.

tazcat, it's nice seeing your post again. I was wondering where you were.

nikki, that was a cute joke. Did you get any snow? Thankfully this storm is staying well to the south of us. Well, when my hair is highlighted I'm blonde! Otherwise, it's brown. When I was small I was very blonde, but as I got older it got darker. When it's highlighted it's almost the same color I had as a kid.

mauvaisroux, your outfit sounds beautiful. Purple is a great color.
Have fun at rehearsals.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hi Everyone!

Nikkic, loved the blond joke, it gave me a much needed
laugh:lol: .

Aleka, movies are great. I love watching old videos on a
Saturday night (especially when its freezing outside like
now!!)

Dad went to his visit and the oncologist is sending him
for pulmonary functions testing and for an assessment at
Princess Margaret (Toronto's biggest cancer centre) They
will try to see if they can proceed with radiation therapy
without destroying too many good cells. I know they will do
the best for him. We are all trying hard to keep our spirits up.
I know a friend I worked with who had catagory four breast cancer that is still alive years after her treatment.

I know realistically, lung cancer is very very deadly. Sadly I
don't know any long term survivors except my dad who until
know was able to be treated with all those surgeries. I will always try to count my blessings. He could have been gone
at age 56 when this beast first arrived on the scene.

What makes me really sad, is my second son who is 18
smokes!! We all gave up smoking 12 years ago when my dad
was stricken for the second time with lung cancer. Try and
tell a teenager with an attitude anything.......You might as
well say "Hello Wall"

Anne.

Hi everybody,
Tazcat, glad to see you again. Hope your well.

Aleka, we got snow! Normally, I won't like it, but I love it today. We only got a couple of inches, maybe more to come. But it doesn't look too promising out there, the skies are clear again. I've bleached my hair since I was 16. Sometimes it is lighter than others. The last year, I've found the perfect color, it is kind of a butter with shades of light brown.

Anne, I understand. I went through the same feelings with my dad. About your son, I still smoked for years after my dad passed and then my DD's both started to smoke too. We all quit last year, at different times and pretty much because of different reasons. Your son may quit too, soon. He still lives at home, right? I've found the attitude changes a lot when they have to move out and support themselves. Also, he may not be able to afford to smoke anymore. With my oldest daughter, after she graduated, I charged her rent. I told her if she moved out, she would have to pay much more than I was charging her. I figured up all the bills, the food expense and divided it by the # of people in the house. It came to $300 a month. She sure was PO'd about it, but after she moved out, she found out that life in the real world is a lot more expensive. Plus, it helped her to learn how to budget her money better and not waste it on crap. I saved all the money and when she found an apartment to move to, I gave it back to her, to help her with the deposit and hooking up all the utilities, plus she was able to buy some furniture. But, I didn't tell her I was saving it til she was planning on moving. I don't know why I went on and on about that. Kids. You love them with all your heart and they make you want to pull all your hair out at times.

Evening everyone:wave:

It is freezing here again  and it is suppose to be -30c with the windchill tomorrow :yikes: I was so bundled up this morning I felt like I did when I was a kid and you were so bundled up you got outside and could barely move under all the layers

Cute joke! I accidentally dyed my hair pineapple yellow in high school - I used to much sun in spray and boy did my hair go blonde
I got a spiky hair cut and told everyone I was a punk

Nikki- Thanks! That was really nice of you to say re: the belly dancing :) I guess you never think of yourself as adventurous until someone else points it out  That was a great story about your daughter, it probably taught her a few life lessons and responsibility.

Anne- keeping your dad in my prayers! I hope they can do something for him.

Aleka- what previews did you see? I really want to see the new Edward Norton movie, I think it is called the 25th hour. I also want to see Darkness Falls.

Hi Tazcat-glad to see you are still around :D

Someone Please start a new Theread??
Morning Chicks, Early and cold here, 5:22am and -12. Don't know what the wind chill is? I just know it is COOOOLD.
I love to read about all the movies you chicks are going to .. If I wanted to see a movie I would have to drive into Halifax, that is about 2+ hours away, I don't like driving that much.
Chicks I know what you are talking about when it comes to Kids. Thank you God, mine are married for now and out of my house.
Aleka- for some reason I lost the weekly posts and would be on the daily ones, as a matter of fact, I would usually start them. I am going to go back in this thread and try to catch up a bit.:^:
Nikkic, I had a bad go with the flu, but I am better now.
Ann- Our oldest son still smokes and I don't know what it will take for him to stop. I will start praying on that as well. They have the cutest little girl and she dosn't need to be in that second hand smoke!

All the chicks old and new , keeping you in my prayers today.
Love,Tazcat

At least the cold temps here are keeping that snow storm away from us. Our heat has been running like crazy.

tazcat, sorry you were sick with the flu. Glad you are better now. I'm happy that you found us again! How have things been with you?

mauvaisroux, we saw previews of How to Lose a Man in 10 days, (or something like that), and a new Adam Sandler & Jack Nicholson movie, which the title escapes me (brain freeze from being out in the cold too much) There is also a movie out called The Hours I would like to see.

nikki, that's a great story about your D. It's good she learned responsibility at a young age. When I was in my teens/early 20's I used Summer Blonde, but the upkeep was a real pain. I never colored my hair again until I started highlighting it about 12 yrs. ago. When it grows out it's not that noticeable, so I can have it done every 5 months instead of every month.

ANNE, I will be praying for your Dad. Both my parents smoked. My Dad was able to quit, but my Mother was so addicted she couldn't stop and she died of lung cancer. She didn't know she had it until it was too far advanced. I tried smoking once, but hated it so I never really started. DH smoked at one time, but had stopped a long time before we met.

Have a great day everyone :balloons:

Hi everyone,
Tazcat, we usually start a new thread at the beginning of the week, but last week, we forgot. It happens sometimes. How about if whoever posts first on Sunday starts it? Sometimes we don't post everyday or sometimes it's several times a day. I'm so glad to have support and encouragement from you all.

Akeka, DD didn't graduate from high school til she was in her 20's due to her illness. But that is still young. She is going to be 25 on the 27th of this month. I can't believe it. I feel old. She says her coworkers thought I was her older sister. :)
Our heat has been running a lot too. We have propane and I'm looking at that gauge all the time. It isn't real accurate, so I will have to order some gas soon. It costs so much to get it filled. We burn wood in the garage and I've had a fire going for weeks now all the time. I try to keep it at least 40 in there for the cats. I'm a pushover when it comes to them. The are so useful too, they catch a lot of rodents. I am worried about next summer and the West Nile virus in the birds. When they see a bird flopping all over, they will attack it for sure. They will not stay inside all the time. The male just goes nuts at night if I don't let him out and starts to tear the wallpaper off the walls to get my attention. I've replaced the same area 5 times now. He was neutered several years ago, but he still likes to go out and claim his territory every night. I hear him out there every now and then, fighting with another tom. So far, he's the champ.

Mauvaisroux, I used that Sun In when I was a kid, cause mom wouldn't let me use bleach. It made my hair orange. It was not a popular look in the early 70's.

Stay warm everyone.

Hi,
I'm fairly new to this thread, i've been lurking and was looking for other SSzers to get ideas from and ask questions.

Aleka told me about this thread and said some of you are SSzers. I've been reading Fast and Easy and the recipes from two of her other books. I think this is the key for me. I've been low-carbing for about a year. When I watch it, i lose, but i've had relapses. Since after the holidays i've been low-carbing and then incorporating SSzing. And I feel great!!!!

I have a guy i'm dating coming over Sat for dinner so i'm going to do fine with the eats, i'm making filet mignon with a redwine shallot sauce (on program) and i'm making grilled vegetables and then for him i'm making gorgonzola mashed potatoes and cheese biscuits. I can say no to those although I am going to enjoy a glass (or two) of wine! :)

Have a great day!

Welcome :balloons: I'm glad you came over to our thread. You will get a lot of support and encouragement from everyone here. They are a great friends. Your dinner on Sat. night sounds delicious. Have you tried celery root or cauliflower for mock mashed potatoes? Both of them are very good, but personally, I prefer the celery root. SSzing is a great way to eat, you feel so much better when you get the sugar and chemicals out of your system. Looking forward to your posts.

Aleka,
Thanks for the welcome! No I have never tried the celery root recipe although i did read it yesterday and it looked good. But i'm probably better off to make him regular potatoes. He is health conscious and probably would try them, but i don't want to make something i'm not familiar with.

Made some cucumber today with mayo and dill and a little salt! Yum. Just peel the cucumber, cut kind of thin, add a dollop of mayo, about 1 tsp. dill and about 1/2 tsp. salt. They get crunchy after sitting for awhile and the sauce gets a little watery. My niece loves them! :)

I am doing SS too. I really enjoy this WOE as I don't really feel like am dieting and I enjoy eating real food :D I have all of the books and I am slowly incorporating the changes into my lifestyle (not always easy :P).

That cucumber dish sounds yummy~ :T

It is frigid out. Earlier this morning it was -12 deg., and now the temp is +1 deg.

If you like bread & butter pickles, I have found Mt. Olive brand made with Splenda. They are fantastic!! Mt. Olive is made in NC and I found these pickles at Super Walmart.

Have a great weekend everyone. :balloons:

Hi everybody,
Nice to meet you Michele. I use to Somersize, so I understand the basics. I think it is a great woe and very healthy. I can't do it right now, as I can't control my desserts very well. Your suppose to eat them in moderation and I thought they were a new food group. I would like to return to it someday when I'm more in control of myself. I think I submitted a recipe like that here on the recipe forum. It had onions in it. You would think the onions would be over powering, but after they set in the sour cream a day, they get very mild. Dill is great with cucumbers. Your dinner tonight sounds great.

Aleka, I will have to look for those pickles. I wish they would make everything with splenda. It is pretty close to sugar in the taste.

It is cold here now too. I don't know how cold, but I can not get warm. I hold the little space heater in my lap when I'm on the computer, it is encased in plastic and can't burn you. In fact, it just feels like a blow dryer. We did get a little more snow last night. Not enough to count, just enough to make the streets messy.

Hi everybody! Just popping in to say hello, and that I miss ya!
My computer has had one problem after another for the last two weeks, so time online has been scarce. I have been using the extra time to try and get my life more organized. I have been so busy for the last couple of years and it is time to make some changes!

Nikki, congrats on getting the surgery approved! I hope you will be very happy! Do you have the address you were talking about for the gastric bypass support? I have a friend that would benefit from that greatly!

Anne, I wish your dad the best of luck with his treatments.

Mauv and Aleka and Taz, good to 'read' you! I hope I can write again more really soon. Rob is going to work on my pc more tomorrow, hopefully my problems will be gone.

Well, it is 1:30 in the morning and we have a great snowfall going on, so I am going to watch it in the window. I love to see it fall!

Happy Sunday Everyone:
Thank you all so much for your prayers and good wishes for my
dad. I was shocked to here Sen. Kennedy's 42 year old
daughter had part of her lung removed the victims are getting younger and younger. I think enviromental polution must be factoring into this as well.

It is so cold here you wouldn't believe it!! We have been spoiled
here in Toronto for the last few years with our weather and now
that a real north american winter is upon us brrrrrrrrr.

Nikkic, I tried this new lipstick called "OutLast" by covergirl, do
you know it stays on for over 24 hours !! I get up in the morning
and it looks freshly applied!! I have tried several products that
promised long lasting results but did not work. This one stays
put. I love it.

I was reading WEB MD today and "the doctors rating" of all the
current diets.

Boy, did our WOE ever get slammed. The ratings were one to
five stars. PP and Atkins got zero stars because it was felt
they were such unhealthy eating plans. I don't care, I feel so
good myself no indigestion, no bloating, the doctors can say what
they like, my body tells me something else!!!

Anne.

aleka

It's 14 deg. below zero this morning, and they are saying that Tues. it should be even worse. We haven't had this cold of a winter in a very long time. We've been sort of spoiled I guess.

ANNE, I don't know why Dr.'s can't see the light with high protein/low carb diets. A lot of people are having fantastic results. My bloodwork proved that to me. ;) I do have a GF though, who was on Atkins and her cholesterol skyrocketed. She didn't have it tested before she began Atkins, so it could've been a lot higher before she started it.

Jennifer, glad to hear from you. How is Sugar Buster's going? I joined a Low Glycemic WOE, SB on Yahoo. As a newbie you got a newsletter on SB WOE in a nutshell. The newsletter was clearer to understand than the book was, and it clicked. To me, it's sort of like SSizing except for the food combining and you're able to have a little more variety.

nikki, I'm with you about not being able to keep warm. Yesterday I was watching TV with a blanket wrapped around me. I also had on jeans, a long sleeved T/neck, and a sweatshirt!:yikes: I am forever running my hands under warm water...I know you're not supposed to do that, but it feels soooo good:goodvibes

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi, I thought I'd start a new thread, this one is kind of long. This is for you Tazcat too! See you on the new thread, Nikki
