Alright! That's it! I can't stand by anymore! I've always loved the Alternachicks area on 3FC, and I'd like to see it a tiny bit more active. After all, we have a lot more to discuss than just what we look like (though that can certainly be fun, too) =)

I know you're out there lurking, and hoping, too. *peers into the darkness...listens for an echo* So how about we just start talking?

Let's cease the silence and get to know each other by posting =)

Remember there are a broad range of definitions for "alternative" so if you think you might be an Alternachick or Alternadude then you are, and get to typing!

---

Oh...uh... now I actually have to start talking. Hmm. Well.

In general, I use WW to keep track of my food intake and follow their good health guildelines to make sure I'm eating much healthier in general and not just less. I'm incredibly level-headed and scientifically minded when it comes to eating better so I love to look around and note what others are doing and have discovered a variety of different foods that I probably never would've sought out on my own.

My struggle at the moment would likely be movement. (As always) Though I'm up to 15 minutes of "extra" movement a day which includes treadmill walking and yoga. Slowly, but surely I'm building up to more.

I'm making tacos tonight for dinner =D In fact, just thinking about it I'm getting hungry. I just have to make sure I've made them before my raid starts (I play WoW) or I have to eat while raiding and I can't stand doing that as the food is gone and I've wondered where it went... Kinda like eating while watching TV.

Also I'm trying to decide if I should hold off on buying a new book for my first 5% goal or if I should get it sooner and use something else as a reward.

See, the dilemma is....There's a series called Game of Thrones on HBO, and I told myself I'd read the books before starting watching the show, but I never got around to it and now the show is out... so I want to read the books asap.

I just don't want to have to wait another month if that's how long the scale decides to make me wait until I reach 5%. What to do?

Hope every Alternachick is having a great OP day!

Hello, I'd be glad to join in. :) I've always wanted to jump into one of the "chatter" threads around here on 3fc, but it always seems that most areas already have an established group of chatters and I'd be intruding on their conversation. :b Either way, I've always liked this section of the forum but alas, it does seem woefully inactive.

A little about me: several years ago I lost 65 lbs and this year, I'm trying to get the last 15-20 or so. I'm an ex calorie counter- lost those 65 lbs by counting however this time around, for some reason, counting seems to trigger binging for me. :( So I'm eating intuitively instead and on a completely vegan diet and hey- it's working.

My reward for finally reaching my goal will be my first tattoo!! I'm getting a happy running wolf on my forearm in about a years time.

Anyway, I like the idea of using books as a mini-goal reward. :) Maybe you can reward yourself with the book for a smaller goal that will come sooner(staying completely on plan for 1 week? Adding in some more activity? etc...) and reward yourself with something else for the 5% achievement.

Hello! I'm new and would feel more at home in this section, but it seems to be quite inactive, so I'm in! :)

I've put on loads of weight since not working, and after a craptastic year and a half, have finally decided to do something about it. I'm really determined this time, but struggling with the exercise at the moment. I'm not following a diet, just eating healthily and sometimes having a slim fast shake instead of a meal, as I find it easier than having to dealing with food.

My half-way reward will be a tattoo. I've had a few planned for years but am having to wait! And my reward for reaching my goal will be another tattoo! :p

I've been trying to think of rewards for mini-goals too. I thought of putting some money away for every mini-goal reached, to spend on clothes when reaching the bigger goals. It might make me stop buying clothes that are way too small and just sit in my wardrobe - does anyone else do this? :p

Hey there Horo =) Good to meet you. Congrats on maintaining that 65lb loss :D And happy to hear that you've found what's going to work for you for the last few pounds and hopefully it's something you can stick with!

I do like the idea of a tattoo as a final reward, and have dabbled with the idea of getting a small one somewhere to commemorate my 1 year maintaining anniversary when I do get down to goal. I think it's definitely something to look into.

And, yeah, I was leaning towards making the book a goal for exercising for a solid week. And then finding a song or something to download for the 5% goal. I think I might do it that way.

Heya Miss  - Exercise was almost always the thing that put me off about losing weight. I had to stop thinking about it as "exercise" and just use the "moving more" phrase. Like I could park furthest from the store, and that was more movement. Or I could take the stairs and that was more movement, etc.

I really like the idea of putting away money for smaller goals and or per pound (I've seen some people put away a couple dollars per pound lost) and then using the money for milestone goals.

I ONCE bought a jacket that was too small when I went to a cirque du soleil performance. I really loved the jacket, it was incredibly whimsical, but they only had a Lg left and I was an XL at that point. It is still sitting in my closet as a reward/comparison type piece.

I also buy one pair of jeans that's the next size lower. So what I do is every month or so I try them on to see how they fit. Eventually I finally get them zipped up. And down the road they start fitting perfectly. That's when I know it's time to get rid of the old "too big clothes" and get a few new pairs of the new best fitting size. Plus that one new pair of jeans that's a size to small for the continued comparison.

---

Another great May day here. Keeping the windows open and the air flowing. I was able to get dinner fixed and finished before raid time last night, so I didn't have to worry about stuffing my face while gaming.

I'm having a huge dilemma with my sleep schedule as of late. I'm trying VERY hard to set myself a bedtime and waking time. I'm so prone to love the late night that it's difficult. Such a night owl, but then again I really enjoy the early morning, too. The peaceful stillness and all that junk ;)

Hope you guys have great OP days! And, anyone thinking about joining in on the chatter definitely should! *pokes* That means you, lurker person!

Hello!! I think I'd fit here best as well. And I agree, it has been rather quiet on this end *hears pin drop*...

I have trouble with keeping on track. ESPECIALLY since I moved in with my boyfriend and his mom. They eat much fattier meats and foods in general than I am used to(a LOT more eating out and less fresh veggies) and therefore... I managed to gain 30lbs in the last 4 or so months 0.0 yepp. WAY too much for my liking as a year before I gained 20lbs in less than three weeks due to an antidepressant I was on. Still haven't managed to get those pounds off. SOOOO over all I have gained 50lbs in about a year an a half's time... Yikes.

In high school I had lost 30 or so lbs when I was at 180 and looked fabulous(or so I was told) but even at 152 lbs I wanted to lose more but alas I got sick with a REALLY bad case of mono that still gives me symptoms 4 years later o.o

But ANYWAYS, I know sickness and whatever is no excuse so that is why I am here! I want to get on track and stay on track.
I was thinking about trying the 17 day diet and actually using my gym membership that I got last october(hey, I was REALLY good for about a month... and then I fell off the wagon). And now that I have 3 months before I start school I would like to lose at least 25lbs before then. And with some support from you lovelies I think I can do it :D

I just got a fantastic new job as a home health aid which is a LOT less stressful than my past job as a cna/tma in a nursing home. And another plus is that there is no vending machines to tempt me :D

BUT other than talking about my weight I do have other hobbies lol
I LOVE to fish. I learned to fly fish last year and ABSOLUTELY loooooove it. If you all ever get a chance to learn, take it!! Fishing is just so calming and it's sucha treat to guess what kind of fish you have on the line by the way it fights!! So far I caught one walleye spinner fishing. Pretty sweet since it was off the dock and in the rain.

I also am a country girl transplanted to the metro. And let me tell you... I MISS THE COUNTRYSIDE. Grew up on a farm and am now living in a townhome in the middle of a city only knowing my boyfriend and his mom(I need friends...). Crazy. But hopefully it's only while I am going to school(which I am REALLY excited for). I will be starting the occupational therapy assistant program this august and can NOT wait.

But ANYWAYS, it is a lovely day out so I best be getting out there while it still is sunny in this crazy minnesota weather.

Toodles!!!

Hey Lovely, I'll try the 'moving more', thanks! There's always a reason (read 'excuse') to put off the exercise, but parking further away etc is definitely more do-able!
Jeans the next size down is a great idea, gonna do that when I get half way, or I'll be getting through about 8 pairs LOL.
I used to be terrible buying clothes ridiculously too small for me just because I liked them, and tell myself I'll fit in them one day!
I'm having the same trouble with my sleep, seem to be going to bed later and later. and then missing half the morning.

Hi Rockbanjo! I've gained the same amount in that time too - scary isn't it?! We can all support each other to stay on track :)
Congratulations on the new job! And I also used to work in a very stressful nursing home.

Aaah sunshine...its been pouring here all day!

Heeeey everybody, I would totally like to join in this chatter. :D
I have decided that I need to lose weight if not just because I dont feel comfortable in my own skin, but also because I am really unhealthy, whenever I kneel down it hurts my knees and I am 25.... thats not good. Needless to say, I am ready to finally rid myself of this weight and feel healthy and want to walk around stores or parks without feeling like everyone is judging and staring at me.
So as my reward for when I lose all the weight and feel comfortable I am going to get boudoir photos done... I have always wanted to but never felt comfortable enough with my body so I am looking forward to it.

It is so good to meet all of you and I look forward to our future chatters.

Hi!

Lovely--thanks for starting up this thread. It has been really quiet around here ever since Mauvaisroux stepped down as our administrator/supporter/thread starter.

I've done rewards in the past, but I actually haven't thought much about them this time around. I've done books and clothing. But this time, I might work toward a night out--just time for me away from the responsibilities of home. Maybe a movie or something (haven't been out to see a movie since my son was born a year ago).

I so want to read Game of Thrones. Let us know if you enjoy it!

Esofia

I'm reading the Game of Thrones books, which I started a few episodes into the series, and they're good. I found the series rather confusing before that, there's a huge amount to put in and while they're doing an incredibly faithful adaptation, it's easier to understand if you already know what's going on. Of course, now I'm several books ahead and when I watch the episodes, I have to pause and work out what was happening back in book 1. It's probably easier not to read the books concurrently with watching the series!

Hi everyone! :welcome:

Hey Rockbanjo ^^ It is so difficult to watch what you eat when there are people around who don't subscribe to the same food methods. For example, my husband is mostly good about what I buy, but he loves tortilla chips and I'm not very big on using my daily points for them so I have to hide them behind things on top of my fridge so I'm not tempted

I went fishing a grand total of ... ONCE. We caught them and then tossed them back. I love the outdoors, but I'm such a wuss. The second there are bugs or animals or "icky" things I get as squeamish as a child.

Yo Miss - The weather improved there, yet?

Hi SugarComa :) I 100% know what you mean about knees. When I climb stairs I feel like I'm 95 years old with how my knees ache. The boudoir photos sound so neat, and I think that's a hot idea as a goal! :D

Heya Riverite - I remember when Mauvaisroux was the mod here and there was a nice little chat going. I looked back over and realized it quieted down, so hopefully we all can liven it up a bit more. :) If we can keep the chatter going and maybe add in a few challenges down the road or something it'd be nice! I have a few things down on my rewards lists, a night out at a movie is actually one of them! I know the seats aren't usually small or anything, but I want to go to one and feel comfortable sitting in them without feeling squished.

Esofia :) Yeah, I have the series saved to my cable box. I believe I've been faithful enough to my plan that I'll pick up the first book and read through it and then watch the few episodes that are out now. I'm nerdily (totally not a real word lol) looking forward to it! :book2:

---

Yet another gorgeous day out here. I was on the treadmill this morning and right about 8 minutes in... there was this surge of...how to put it... perfection? I felt like I could've flown off my balcony. Not that I was about to try >_> just that I'm glad to be returning to those positive workout vibes. I realize it's a natural thing...endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. Thank the world for brains releasing chemicals, they do such good things.

I remember having those surges when I was working out before. I'd get to a point in the walk/run where I just felt great. Everything in the world was wonderful. :goodvibes: Yay for exercising truly improving mood! :D

Hope everyone has a solid & on plan day!

Lovely, I love those moments!

I'm so jealous of all of you with HBO...I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD. But--more time to read the books! Which will be good for me because I mostly read YA--I need to read some stuff closer to my age sometimes.

Riverite -

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

I've been doing pretty nicely with my exercise, and I went food shopping yesterday which is always a workout. Especially lugging heavy bags of things up 3 flights of stairs. But, I always feel better for it. And I've got a ton of fruits and veggies on hand for all sorts of healthy eating.

:carrot: :broc: :cb:

I go to about four different stores to get all my food.

A regular grocery store, a produce/specialty store, a giant Sam's Club, and Trader Joe's. I feel a little silly sometimes, but none of them have everything I like in my diet, and all of them have something I like.

Tomorrow's my weigh-in day, and I'm feeling pretty positive about this week =)

:)Hi everyone,

Just found this threat, and I also would love to join in. I have been fighting the same 10lbs up and down for nearly twenty years now...sigh....I know that might sound silly for some, but they are all concentrated in my thights and butt, and...they just makes me look funny...:?:

I am just tired of passing on going to the pool every summer, or wearing shorts..., and yes, I also have that pair of jeans, that I bought back in the day but still can't wear, cause they just won't zip! ... and I refuse to buy a bigger size...

Two days ago, I am back at counting calories. After three weeks of intuitive eating, which got me to gain a few pounds and in a state of out of control "oh my God, I can't stop eating chocolate cake" ...and I just couldn't make myself to see it thru...so back at calorie counting.

The thing is that my schedule is very scattered, I am a flight attendant, so I spend most of the time eating at airports and hotels (and lots of vending machines) Not a good thing, because I can only cook about one week out of the month.. which is when I am home; and then, I don't really even feel like cooking.

So, I am hoping to find some buddies here and some support, and to learn from what others are doing to lose weight, or to maintain it, and/or to keep sane in the process ;)

Lovely
05-29-2011, 08:55 PM
Hi Bluenach and welcome =)

How neat being a flight attendant! I can only imagine the hectic schedule and trying to figure out meals :dizzy:

I know there are still healthy choices that can be made, it just takes an extra dedication when you aren't the one making the meals. You have to trust others to prepare food the way you need it.

Hi everyone! It's nice to find a chatter thread that isn't so established. I agree with everyone where it feels intrusive to just join in. I moved to New Mexico last year for school and just keep gaining. I really lack a schedule and I feel that it is the major cause of my downfall. I've always been hovering at 160 but now I'm at 193. I figured that some support would help me lose the excess weight I gained and then some. My little sister is one of those freaks that never has to work at being a healthy weight. I just want to be able to shop for clothes freely and not worry about it being unflattering like I do now.

Hello everyone! I am new to this group. I am looking forward to all of us making some noise :)

I am a correctional officer and realized I need to be in better shape for the times $h*T hits the fan.... I was up to 194 at one point! That was one pound lighter that I was when I was full term, on delievery table with my now 4.5 year old. I did HCG, hated it. Will preach about how horrible it is. I did get down to 175ish, but sooner or later was back up to 180s!!

As of now, I do myfitnesspal to chart calories, because I tend to not eat enough... I get in the mindset less= more weight loss, and I KNOW that is not the case. I work out about 6 times a week :)

I am down 15lbs since Dec, however, I am down A LOT of inches. I feel much better and it is nice that I look forward to my time in the gym now. I LOVE it!

Does anyone play Fable 2?

3trip - The only member of my family who never had weight issues was my eldest brother. And he had to join the army in order to keep it completely off. Buying clothes in a normal store is one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to.

& berries in the freezer is a good thing. I dunno that grapes taste like ice cream when frozen to me, but they're great because it takes me a while to eat them, so a cup of them keeps me busy for a whole movie on tv or the like

Ryeb - Grats on your work so far! Love your avatar ;) I've never played Fable 2. Or Fable 1 for that matter. But, they both looked cool.

I'm a WoW player, and I've played a bit on the PS & Wii, but I don't own an xbox so no games for me there.

I actually got Portal 2 the other day... I really have to play that, as I love puzzle games.

The Sims! Oh man, I remember playing that when it first came out way back when and waiting for the call to adopt a baby and all that stuff. I still play the older Sims occasionally. Up through... I think it was SuperStar was the last expansion for the oldest one.

I tried Sims 2 a bit, but never got quite as into it. Not sure why!

LOVELY, Thank you :) ...yes, the schedule is pretty hectic, and to add to it, that also affects my sleep, hence affects my hunger levels :)

Yesterday, for instance, I figurered, if I order a crispy chicken sandwich from Wendys and I dont eat the bun nor the mayo, I am good at 200 something calories for part of my lunch. But, then, I was in the internet, and found the nutritional info for the sandwich. It was perverse! Nearly 1000 mg of sodium only on the patty, plus msg, and a bunch of other things I wont even dare to pronounce...no wonder why I was soooo thirsty the rest of the day.

...When I am in my home base, I spend lots of time running from concourse to concurse, trying to gather a few "healthy" choices. Ex.: concourse A for steam rice from the chinese place, concourse C for a concession that, amazinly enough, have Faye greek yogurt (not the organic kind thou), somewhere in B there is a stand with fruits (bananas and apples...)...finding good protein is alway a challenge.

I guess that is why I count calories, because I cant rely on just "eating organic, non processed foods" three weeks out of four, let alone at regular meal times, and getting enough sleep.

Now, I do get plenny or running around and coffee thou :) ...and some amazing gyms at the layover hotels...that helps.

Triptriptrip Welcome! Love New Mexico! Amazing hiking and gorgeous hotsprings in Jemez...and Santa Fe!! (my all time favorite place) :) --

As you can read in my post, I completely relate to the lack of consistent schedule and good food availability. Is there a health club at your school? Or do they offer physical ed or dance classes that you can take as electives? I remember registering for aerobics and salsa when I was in college, as a way to force myself to keep in motion at least three times a week. It was a nice break between lectures---

Ryeb Welcome! Great job on your weight loss! wow...six times a weeks gym sessions...that is fantastic! --- I also use myfitness pal to chart calories...I am still trying to figure out my way around the app, thou it seems pretty simple.

I have a friend that is now doing the HGC. I havent check with her in a while, but I was wondering what were some of the side effects you suffered from it.

Bluenach - Just the running around alone to find healthier foods must be enough exercise  I totally agree with the calorie counting for that. Not many airports likely have "Whole Foods" restaurants!

HCG is, in fact, so not healthy that 3FC doesn't support the plan. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/general-diet-plans-questions/148397-we-do-not-support-hcg-injections-plans.html

Long story short: The injections do nothing. It's a 500 calorie a day plan (ultra unsafe) and that's the only thing that makes you lose.
It's not a permanent, healthy plan.

I'm beginning a whole summer challenge. Just staying on plan for 98 days. Hmm. Maybe I'll make it a personal 99 and include Labor Day in that count. I might just.

Anyway, hope you're all having a good day!

ryeb

Exactly Lovely. Yes, people lose numbers on the scale while on that diet, that doesn't mean they are healthy, or it is good weight lost. I have learned if I don't eat, my body burns my newly developed lean muscle, not fat.

I started in gym in Dec, had an official weigh in at 177, this was after about a month of going to the gym off and on. It wasn't until the beginning of April I got up to 6 days a week. I have never felt better. My weight is around 162 right now, and I can tell how much better my cardiovascular health is, even though the weight is coming off VERY SLOWLY. I would never recommend that HCG diet to anyone. Like I said, I saw the pounds come off (about 20), but I did not maintain it, nor did I feel awesome.

I like to not feel trapped. That diet didn't allow for anything. The "doctor" was so about my health that he got upset at me when I told him I chose to wear sunscreen while water rafting, than not. WTF? I mean really, I am prone to skin cancer, I am a red head, and you are going to tell me I am doing the diet wrong because I was worried about my skin? No thank you. Most people that have done the diet, fail, because you are literally starving yourself.

I am not sure if I am going against HCG is against the forum rules, because I am discussing it, but I apologize if I did.

ryeb
05-30-2011, 04:14 PM
Lovely, what does your challenge consist of?

Lovely
05-30-2011, 11:28 PM
Ryeb - I don't think it's wrong to explain your journey and why you're not on the plan anymore, I just think it's not supposed to mentioned a TON (you don't see it mentioned much at all around here) in order to avoid people Googling it and the results being shown from 3FC's forums and then people thinking it's safe or something.

The 99 Day Challenge... one rule. Stay on plan for 99 days. No excuses.

My plan happens to be: WW Points/Plan, 10 min of exercise a day at the very least.

So as long as I stick to my points, and if I choose to have cake or something I keep it tracked and to ONE slice, then I'm following plan.

I do have to accept that I'm human and may not be totally perfect, but I figure even if slipped one or two days that's still a HUGE amount of OP days by the time I'm done with the count down.

And heck, if I can actually make it 99 days totally on plan I'll be super extra proud and definitely looking forward to more OP days. :)

That's it! That's the whole of it. Just a personal challenge that anyone can do!

Oh, and I have a question, since this is a chat....

I have lost a couple pant sizes around 35 pounds and TONS of inches, however for some reason I feel even heavier and "fatter" now than I did before. I don't know if I am finally realzing what it is to be in better shape or what. I have not been this low in weight since before I was pregnant with my now 4.5 year old. I was always around 175ish, you would think now that my stomach is flatter, my legs are firmer and my weight is down I would feel thinner, I dont. What is wrong with me?

Does anyone else experience this?

Lovely

Ugh. Beer. You can have it! In all seriousness, though, is it something you can either use a "light" of or keep on drinking, but in moderation? (Like one beer a day or only 2 beers on weekends?)

And I actually do know what you're talking about "feeling heavier". It's not quite that I feel heavier, it's that I'm much more aware of it now. Heath, food, exercise, how my clothes fit. I'm just very conscious of it on a daily basis. The little things stick out more now than they did before.

I just wanted to jump into the chatter before it got too established! I'm glad that this part of the forum is becoming more active. I guess I should say a little about myself, so here goes. I'm twenty-four and graduated from college last year with a B.A. in Classics. I've spent the last academic year teaching English at a primary school in Finland, and I like it so much that I've extended my contract for another year. I was occasionally a bit pudgy as a child, but my real struggles with weight didn't begin until I graduated from high school and subsequently moved back to the States. I'm pretty much at the end of the loss part of this process, but I am completely and utterly terrified by the thought of maintenance, especially since I'm basically travelling all summer and won't even be able to weigh in on my own scale. yikes.

So, I know that there have been other threads that broach this subject, but why do you all consider yourselves alternative? The word just covers such a lot territory, and it's always interesting to see how others interpret it. Music choices? Clothing choices? Quirky hobbies? Taste in books and movies? Just the way you generally see the world? I look forward to getting to know you ladies!

Goooood afternoon & happy June everyone! =)

Glad to have you join in the chatter Nienna!

Hmm... why am I alternative... Maybe all of the above? I suppose it boils down to thinking differently and seeing the world differently. But that manifests itself through hobbies and interests. I pride myself on truly looking for all sides of a story. It's kind of why I like 3FC in general. People are doing so many things, none of them are right. So while I have my own "right" that I follow, I can nod along to what I read and find interesting facts about the way other people handle things.

All knowledge is worth having.

While I couldn't get myself to do my yoga routine today, I did push myself for 20 minutes on the treadmill. Best investment I ever made, that treadmill. It's right there in the living room. No excuses. Just pop on my shoes and take a walk. Can't say "it's raining or it's too hot", because the treadmill is right there.

Hope everyone else is doing well, and again if people are considering jumping in on the chatter, please do! :D The more the merrier!

Bluenach - I took pilates last semester and that was great, but there isn't a gym offered at the community college that I'd use. I finally qualify for in-state tuition in the fall and the university has a pretty sweet gym. There is a gym near my apartment that I want to join, but I have to buy a couch first. Haha.

Lovely - My mom used her treadmill after having a child at 40. She had gotten so big compared to what she used to be and just got fed up with it. 30 minutes a day for a few months, and she lost about 75 pounds. I wish I had one, there would be no excuse to not just hop on when you wake up in the morning. A quick burst on the treadmill really gets your day going!

Hey folks! Having a "meh" day here.

One of those days where I really have to FORCE every step and give myself a stern talking to. Some days it's easy... other days... well... other days you just gotta buck up buckaroo.

3Trip - Awesome for your mom! It's wonderful what a little exercise can do :)

Sugar - It's a difficult time for you right now. Remember to keep doing good for yourself. Eating on plan or moving more might not always help immediately with the stress, but I'll tell you what... they keep you from having more stress and added frustration later. I'm really sorry you're having a tough time right now. This too will pass.

I hope everyone is keeping well =)

I normally do step class on Thursdays, but instead I decided to clean my stye of a home because I am bringing my boyfriend over for the first time tomorrow lol WOrking evenings, cleaning after work seems to be too much. I've got banana bread cooking. I had some bananas that were getting kinda old, so I mushed them up and mixed up a recipe I found on WW.

5 pt Banana Oatmeal Muffins. Not bad for a muffin. They still need like 30 minutes to bake so we'll see how they turn out.

I LOVE banana bread!!! I haven't had it in so long! Especially homemade kind! Oh, how I wish I had some now lol

I know, I am so excited to show him my home. We live an hour apart, and I have a child, so I always went up or met him in the middle. This will be the first weekend he gets to spend with my child. I am nervous! We all had breakfast last week, but to actually come down and he is spending the night, I am nervous. I think he will sleep on the couch though... I am excited :) I am just protective of my son and I don't bring men into his life.

Someone asks what makes us "alternative" I would say I am just pretty average to be honest. I have tattoos, I play online gaming, like all the time, I was in speech and debate growing up, I am just the "diverse" out cast maybe? LOL I don't dress goth or anything, but my personality falls into alternative I guess.

Hi ladies! Thank you for your replies :) ... Omg... I had two days at home, after three very hectic days... And i spent the whole day yesterday at the vet, with my poor cat (Nacho) feeling awfully constipated--- the doctor gave him some enemas, but still nothing this morning.... ---so there was another day of scatered eating ( basically from the dunkin donuts by the animal clinic) ... Bluenach - Poor kitty (Cute name!) Hope he/she is okay! Sorry you aren't feeling grand, either :(

I'm doing fantastic for a Friday. It's good weather. I got in 30 minutes of movement today. Made good food choices so far. Just overall in the mood of weightloss. Doing good things and making me feel good. Yeaah.... :D

Going to be spending a lot of my day painting bookcases. It really makes arms lacking muscles ache. Then I really need to scrub the carpets to get it nice and clean again. The scrubbing is a serious workout. I'm working against my own body weight and it uses some ab stuff too. Kind of killing two birds with one stone. Hoping to hit the bike in the gym at some point, but at least I'll have a few hours' worth of movement if I can't. Wish me luck :)

Lovely: I am glad to hear all is going well :) .. "in the mood for weight loss" ...I like that ;)

3trip: Good luck!!!!! -- keep the focus :) --- it seems all that household work will keep you moving today -- dont forget to crank up some good music when you are at it :)

..Today is turning up to be a bit more relaxing than yesterday. I went to Houlihans and ordered a 1/2 lb burger with no salt ( sodium poors out of my ears the way i eat fast food - so I am making a serious effort to cut it out) --- 650 cal! Only the meat! --- How can that be possible? That is half of my caloric allowance for the day....
Oh..how I wish I had a kitchen.... See? ...the things we take for granted ;)

Due to being on plan for so long (Gonna be 2 months at the end of next week) I decided to go ahead and reward myself by buying a couple books. *nod* Husband says it's a good idea, too.

Got in 10 minutes of yoga and 20 minutes of walking on my treadmill. Very happy with my movement today. I slept too late... but *shrug* Just gotta make sure food's in control and try to get to sleep earlier.

Ooooooboy. I need to get my sleeping times back in control. Buh. I've been doing more movement over the past few days which is rockin', though.

Ryeb - I'm getting the whole set (to date) for Song of Ice and Fire. I'm rewarding myself with the first book so that I can start watching the HBO series. The other books I'm setting aside and will allow myself to read as I meet other mini-goals. I'm so happy to hear the date with your guy went well!

Sugar - Cleaning can actually be a solid workout, not to mention getting some stuffed cleaned for me is a catharsis. Hmm. My bathroom is calling for a scrubbing. Glad you were able to get all that stuff done in a day! :D

I used to do that Sugar, stay up late, get up early.... I don't do that now, but only because I am on evenings so I get home, go to bed, get up in the morning. I have my own little routine now. My 4 year old should be starting school this fall, so I am sure my schedule will need to change by then. (Or I can only hope, I don't have 15 years here, so it is hard to days)

Ryeb - The series already started. I just didn't want to watch it before reading the book. I'm that way... I like reading the book before watching the show/movie. (Maybe because I get to be all nitpicky that way ) I'm trying to remember about True Blood... I think that one usually starts in the summer, but I don't ever watch it until the very end so I can marathon it. Gosh I love that show, it allows me to indulge in that trampy vampire love. D'awww.... sent you a song <3 What a sweetie! ^^

It was thundering here a little bit... looks like it might be a darker/rainy day.

Ugh...you guys... just yesterday my phone was acting up like a toddler and it reset itself....and...ALL MY CONTACTS WERE GONE! I lost all my phone numbers, addresses, texts, calendar appointments... everything. *sobs and hangs head*

Actually... part of me is glad, because I had a few contacts in there I should've cleared out a long time ago... but still! So I started the long process of trying to contact people through other means to get their numbers back.

SugarComa, I'm not wiccan, actually an atheist. I just really enjoy the religion itself and the art that comes with it. It's not done yet, but it will be in September.

Hi everyone :) new to the Alternachicks area of the site, but I've been lurking for a bit.

@Lovely - Ah! Game of Thrones!! I've been watching along with my boyfriend and I'm gonna start reading the series once the season finale airs next Sunday. True Blood is back the week after too, which is great :) I lost a little bit of interest in the last season of TB but I'm interested enough still to give this season a try.

@Ryeb - I'm coming off of a few days of vacation with plenty of booze and fatty foods, so I'll probably try to do a bit of exercise catch up myself this week. Funny you mention hot dogs - if you have a Trader Joe's in your area, I suggest trying their chicken hot dogs. I just discovered them a few days ago. They are a bit on the salty side, but they're one of the better alternatives and only 60 calories per dog :D I call that winning!

Goooood and Happy Wednesday everyone!

Got in some nice movement this morning. I'm eating properly. Drinking water. Feeling lovely!

This weekend... I'll need to go grocery shopping and pick up more fruits and veggies. Today's my FIL's birthday... and Friday... is MY birthday! Wheee!

Planning on getting a cannoli as my one birthday treat. A big, delicious cannoli. No cake or anything. (Cause who wants cake when you can have cannoli?)

We might go out to dinner to celebrate the birthdays + father's day this weekend. Possibly sushi. If it's sushi, I already know what I'm getting and I'll stick to it. Miso Soup, Alaska Roll, Rainbow Roll. And call it a day. :)

Okay it's nice out. I should do some planning and some work around the house. See you all!

@Lovely - I got some water and a nice walk this morning too, but I realized I have like no work out clothes... time to go shopping! And I have to disagree on the cannoli - I'm more of a Red Velvet cake gal ;) gotta love cream cheese frostng

Today I have to do some cleaning with the boyfriend, mostly because me moving into his place has caused us to have to re-arrange everything and half of our stuff is still floating around the place >_< I also want to get some fresh fruits and citrus because I'm getting tired of plain water and I read an article about putting fresh berries and citrus in a water pitcher to give it some flavor.

Happy Monday to everyone, well Thursday, but it is my Monday. How I dread Mondays.... :(

I got to see the man yesterday, and drove home this morning. He will be coming down tomorrow evening to see me, and I can't wait. I am pretty excited, we have been kicking around moving in with eachother, and it might come sooner than expected since my lease is up August 1, and him just moving out here from out of state, he has been sleeping at a friend's place.

I lived with my ex husband, I was 19 and was out by 20. Then one guy for a short duration, but that was more of a roommate thing. So this is my first time in years to even think about it. My son hasn't ever lived with any man but my brother when he stayed with me, so this is definitely different.

I will have cable when he moves with me, so I will get all caught up with True Blood!

Michi702
06-16-2011, 11:00 PM
@ryeb - Yay for True Blood :) 'tis the season for big changes, I know a lot of friends moving in with their significant others but that could be more due to graduating college than anything.

@Ellie - I know, there's never a dull topic here!!

We had some friends over tonight and I made myself steamed rice and spicy beef and broccoli which ended up being too spicy, so I resorted to having a bunless hot dog and half a burger >_< luckily I had extra calories left for dinner, but that was a bummer. It was nice to have people over though, and we got to talking about geek stuff like playing Magic the Gathering and other CCGs. My boyfriend and I are looking to get back into card games after a 2 year or so hiatus, which could be very refreshing.

I went out to dinner with my FIL today to celebrate his birthday, my birthday and Father's Day. We went for sushi, and I am so proud of myself! This is the first time I've gone to a restaurant since April, and I did well. I planned ahead of time what I would order. I ordered exactly that. I tracked my food exactly. ... I made a plan, and I stuck with it. And the sushi was soooo good. I was satisfied, and I'm satisfied just thinking back on it!

Tomorrow is weigh-in day for the week. Oh! Also I'm 20 days into my On Plan Challenge! I feel great!

 all around!

Hey guys =) Happy midweek!

Did everyone have a good Solstice/Midsummer/First Day of the New Season? =)

I've been feeling a little frumpy the past couple of days. Not sure why. Hopefully I'll slap out of it soon. Pretty proud that I've been exercising each day, still.

Just last night I saw that Weird Al released a new video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss_BmTGv43M

Hurray for amusing parodies ^^

See you all later! Hope things are going well!

Aww... Ryeb  I was having kind of a rough week. I'm not really sure I was able to pinpoint -exactly- why, but I just had to keep going along. At the moment I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel....but for a couple days I was just kinda "blah" and... worse than "blah".

Guard - Sometimes sleep is the best option, though! (At least for me!) You can grab yourself a ticker when you've been at 3FC for 20 days and had 20 posts (Oh hey look you already have 20 posts ^^) So, yep. At exactly 20 days you'll get your ticker to show off!

I'm going out shopping tomorrow. I need new sneakers like crazy!

Hi all. It's been a blah week for me as well. Sunday afternoon I started feeling a tickle in the back of my throat and figured it was allergies, but by night fall I knew it was a full blown cold. I'm cranky, full of mucus, and most of all craving some REAL FOOD after days of soup, pastas, and bread. Though I haven't been counting strictly the last few days, my mental math assures me that I've been sticking on plan calorie wise.

Here's to hoping we all have a good weekend!

Keep your chin up guarddog. I am sorry you are having bad days :( Do you think you are sleeping so much because you are feeling depressed? I noticed I sleep a whole lot more when I feel depressed :(

How are the sneakers Lovely? What did you end up getting?

Michi, do you have a smart phone? There is an app that is called myfitnesspal that thing has every type of food and it really helps you keep chart of your calories with minimal, I mean minimal effort. I hope you get better soon! I hate sinus colds :( My ex used to smoke around me all the time, and I always had sinus issues :(

Michi - Guh! So sorry you're under the weather :(

Ryeb - I ended up sleeping! Derp. I REALLY have to get out tomorrow, though. I need to go food shopping, too. So Sunday I'll find out what shoes I get. They aren't my treadmill shoes, mind you. Just some general sneakers for walking around and such.

Spangle - Hi there Spangle! =) I guess our "meh" weeks aligned! I'm doing quite a bit better now. Back to my normal self.

I just have to be on target tomorrow, and I'll have another successful day/week!

I can't get Katy Perry's "ET" out of my head tonight... it was on the radio or some such and never left my mind! Bah!

Yes, ladies, I think that the summer time blahs have set in for me as well. It's just too dang hot to be outside - makes me want ice cream, slushies, diet cokes, and frappuchinos!

I've turned into a lazy bum, y'all. Sad really! I can't wait for Fall when I can go outside without feeling like I'm melting, melting, melting! Mwahahahahaha! (my best evil witch immitation!) :spin:

Ugh, I know that too-hot-to-function feeling. It's so humid here as well, we're going to get a storm tonight which should break it a bit, but it's horrible D: I was watching The Lord of The Rings with my friends today and it was like a sauna in his living room.

I'm keeping my freezer stocked up with ice pops and frozen juice to have in glasses of water. *thumbs up*

Tomorrow, I will start my strict eating habits and working out again. I have not been to they gym since Tuesday!! I feel like such a bum!!

I know everyone says "tomorrow" but really, tomorrow I have to, I meet with the trainer lol :) I am going to go shopping and stock my fridge with appropriate foods. This past two weeks have been so tight for money ( I wrecked my car and that deductible and some of the car rental fees :( ) I have been eating the "emergency" canned foods. Worst thing to EVER do when you are dieting.

I hope you all have a great day. Today, I am looking up info for the Vegas vacation I am planning to take in September! YAY

Heya all! :D

I know what you guys mean about the lazy blah days of summer when it comes to weather. Thank goodness for my treadmill. I can hole myself up, turn on the AC and at the very least get a walk in. Gosh I love that treadmill  I still get to watch Charmed reruns and act like a hamster.

Ryeb - Tomorrow! You wrote it! I'm holding you to it, lady! ;) You best tell us how tomorrow goes! *poke poke* Gah! Sorry about the accident. Being without your usual car can get so hectic!

I went and bought some new trail shoes/sneakers today for general walking around. These ones if you're curious. (http://www.keenfootwear.com/us/en/product/fw11/shoes/women/trailhead/voyageur/charcoal%20!%20sterling%20blue)

I had some McD's on my way home, but no fries! I got a salad, and one regular hamburger while my husband drove. Now, while it added up to like 18 points (think 600-ish calories), it was my entire lunch, so I'm just going to have a very light dinner to make up for it. And I'm already drinking water to keep my body from retaining too much sodium from the fast food.

Score me! It's hard to choose healthy from fast food, but I did decently well. :)

See you guys later!

Today I have my Graduation Ball. I'm kind of not looking forward to it, and looking forward to it at the same time... I've not lost the weight I wanted to lose by this time so I fully expect to be dodging cameras. Gaaargh :(

At least from September, I can use the gym at my residence for free.

Dropping into this thread. :)

I'm still recovering from my strep throat infection -- stayed in this weekend, didn't do much. It killed me to miss zumba this morning but I just couldn't do it. I did make my 10% at WW this weekend and that is exciting. Looking forward to my reward to myself (a giant, grown up hula hoop).

Working tomorrow, off Tuesday, then working until my long weekend for the holiday.

And hi, everyone, I'm Reb. Or Spooky. Either will do. Looking forward to getting to know you all! I hope we all have great weeks.

I'll try to make myself get a couple of photos; I know I'll regret it if I don't! Just not looking forward to the cupcake stall D:

Today I've been thinking about Halloween. I'm a little early but I can't help but wonder what size costume I will need and trying to think of a fun couples costume for the wife and I. I'm a dork.

Woot! Some of y'all have a busy week ahead! Mine will be on the slow side this time 'round. Hope to take a few days off soon, and get the heck outta town. I love to travel, but gas is so expensive it's getting harder to do. But maybe Gatlinburg for a few days - dip my toes in a cold mountain stream and see a bear and some deer. That sounds really nice. For some reason I always see wildlife no matter where I go. Just this week we took a short drive in the Nth Georgia area and I saw 5 deer in 2 different locations! You wanna see the wildlife stick by me.

@Spooky: I love Halloween! It's a fabulous holiday for young and old!

@Spangle: I hope that you have a blast at your ball, today!

@Lovely: Yeah, gotta get some new tennies soon, before school begins. I like New Balance too, for they're good if you have bone spurs or arthritis. :)

I just worked all night :( I started my first shift at 2 yesterday, got off at 10pm, then worked from midnight until 8 (obviously that means I am still at work lol)

I have today off. I refuse to binge eat, however I am not sure how "great" I will eat due to the fact I am going to be sleeping off and on. I am going to start the "diet" tomorrow, but watch what I eat today. I know, I know how horrible I sound, but I do not want to eat 1500 calories and just be sleeping all day, if that makes sense?

My goal is still to make it to the gym tonight. :) I hope you all have a nice Monday, it is now my Saturday, and I am outties for the next couple of days :)

Woo! Just a few days have passed since I posted and geez you chicks are chatty :)

Ryeb - I actually have a dumb phone, but I'm looking around at smart phone options for later in the year when I switch my plan so thanks for the suggestion :D I tried using Web MD's fitness tracker, and I really liked it but I found myself always having to add my own foods which was time consuming. I think for now the old pen and paper route is fastest! Also, I'm going to Vegas for the first time in December with my boyfriend and some of his buddies. I just bought a nice guidebook last week and am skimming through it ^^

I've been searching for jobs up and down for the past month or so, and I honestly thought it would be much easier than this to find something. People really want you to jump through hoops for employment and I can see how people can get so discouraged after getting so close! Today I've been on and off cleaning with my boyfriend. I'm almost 100% better after my cold last week, but I still have a bit of a cough going :(

I hope Monday has been (or is being) kind to everyone else!

RYEB! Omgoodness! I know you'd been posting a little bit about pregnancy and thinking you might be pregnant earlier! I'm not sure by your post if this is good news, but  I wish you all the best with it! And you better keep posting with us throughout!

Spooky - Heya ^^ Glad to have you jump in with us! Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays. I love the whole season, and actually wish I could be going to a costume party or something this year ^^

Spangle - Glad you had fun at the ball! Almost every party is more about WHO is there than anything else.

Ellie - A wildlife vacation sounds awesome! (As long as I can sleep indoors >.>) My running/treadmill shoes are New Balance, and yeah, I love 'em!

Michi - Glad you're feeling a little better from the cold. I've just been watching Hoarders... and that show always makes me want to clean. I always think "Gee. I could probably get rid of a few things, and dust..."

Well, gang, I had my weigh in this morning and was down a chunk. I'm now about four pounds away from my next weight loss mini-goal, so I'm pretty excited for the next couple weeks.

I kind of randomly decided I wanted a few new options for working out and bought a Belly Dancing dvd and a Zumba dvd... do you guys do either of those? What do you think? They should be shipped by next week.

Off I go to do stuff around the home. See ya'll!

Well congratulations! :bb:

Spangle - I've been considering trying belly dancing for years, so it should be informative if nothing else! :)

It's kinda muggy here. Ugh. Feeling blah, but I need to do some movement. If I don't do any activity I'm going to be so angry with myself for being lazy.

That's it. Soon as I post this, I'm going to get some water and take my walk.

Ryeb - Congrats! And I will look into my fitness pal online instead of web md :)

Spangle - I went to my Commencement/Graduation Ball too... it totally sucked! The food was terrible, drinks were over priced, and everyone go there late or left early to get boozed up at the hotel parties. LAME!

Lovely - One of my best friends from college started belly dancing during out final semester at school this spring. She had lost a few sizes our sophomore year but then ended up putting them back on junior year due to lots of stressful life issues but is now happily working them off again :) She always came back with lots of bruises as apparently you crawl around on the ground for a lot of belly dancing but she absolutely loved it!

Today was nice and I stayed on plan until my boyfriend's mom came home with 'punishment gifts' as he and his friends like to call them. It was a choco-peanut butter shake x_x. I did drink it because I've been craving chocolate all day but I'm sure it blew the calories I was saving for after dinner roasted marshmallows and then some :/ She's one of those people that refuses to accept the bit of pudge she has as she gets older (50+) and then goes on crazy eating plans involving protein shakes and such. She's always interested in how much my boyfriend and I weigh and what we're eating but she always supplies plenty of candy and junk food. I should have stopped half way through the shake but darn it was good. The rest of the day, I was really unsatisfied with the dinner and lunch I made so I guess I kind of used the shake to drown my sorrows... FML!

Anyways, I've been researching exercising options as I HATE HATE HATE to exercise. I'm not at a plateau with weight or anything, but I feel that if I could lose 1.5 - 2 lbs a week with exercise instead of 1 lb with no exercise then I would feel more accomplished and a sense of fulfillment. I'm also bummed lately that I let the pounds I lost earlier this year come almost all the way back but I try not to dwell on it and instead focus on the almost 4 pounds I've lost by recommitting. Sorry about the long post, but I needed a bit of a rant >_<

Hey guys!

Michi - Ugh. Sorry about your bf's mom! Everyone has their own path, but it's hard watching someone try to lose weight in weird and unhealthy ways when you just wanna shake the sense into them! :x At least we can talk about it here so it doesn't bottle up. I used to HATE exercise. That is until I just focused on doing more movement stuff. Heck, it still takes a little oomph to get my bum up on the treadmill, but it's the AFTER for me that is worth it.

Spangle - Heya ;)

It's an awesome looking day out. I'm planning on keeping the windows open. Still need to work out, but after I'm going to set down some organizing plans.

Michi702
06-30-2011, 06:43 PM
Spangle - moving sucks :( However, carrying boxes back and forth can be quite good exercise. What did you study while at university, out of curiosity? For me, it was Accounting (I know, I know, not terribly interesting, but lots of jobs in the field at least). I actually have a friend moving to England soon for grad school, I think she's going to the University of London.

Trip - My boyfriend just got a few new games and he's been playing non-stop! I managed to drag him out to the movies today at least.

Overall, today I'm feeling kind of sad. My birthday is Saturday and I realize that I really want nothing and though I'll get presents (or money, or some combination) it's just not as fun and exciting as when I was a kid and got cool surprise gifts.

My boyfriend was kind of pressing me to have a party, which would be kind of nice, but because it's 4th of July weekend that means everyone's already got plans and in any case, my friends are geographically diverse. I have a few good friends back home, some friends around here, and then some friends who live out towards Boston or down in Connecticut.

I guess I'm also bummed because I have some scheduling conflicts this weekend. My boyfriend's group of friends have a big party every year at one of their houses. This year, it will be on Sunday but in addition to that my boyfriend's parents want to have a clamboil here on Saturday (my real birthday) and his friends are going to the gun range before that. My parents are also coming down for the weekend, but to go to WaterFire in Providence. I'm torn because I do want to see my parents but we had already planned the weekend before they decided to come down. I know my boyfriend will really wanna do the guy stuff and clam boil Saturday and it's not that I'm exactly opposed to the idea, but I guess I just feel kind of left out of the whole picture, you know? Last year, my 21st birthday, sucked because a lot of things just went wrong and created stress and yadda yadda.

I know that I'm not the center of everyone's universe and all, but it really sucks because I feel like no matter what I choose to do this weekend it's going to be a compromise. To be completely honest, as much as I've been looking forward to the party on Sunday I just kind of wanna get away, you know? Blah :(

Very helpful for my future life, I'm sure! :p I hate that part of growing up, when birthdays lose that butterfly making excitement :( I was totally bummed out about my birthday this year- I'm just glad that for once, I had a group of friends who came out and tried to numb the pain with copious amounts of liquor :p
