This is the first time I've ever started a thread on here! I'm oddly nervous about it.

I just ordered Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred from Amazon and plan to do it June 1 - June 30. Who's with me?

So I guess... introduce yourself now if your interested and come June 1st we'll post our starting and goal weight and check in every 5 days. If I'm feeling fancy I'll make a spread sheet... when I figure out how.

I am on day 5- and today was the first day I did all of level 1. I felt I needed to start low, being at 222 pounds. I still can't do it all without a break my goodness! But, I wanted to say you will love the 30 day shred. And the first 3 days you will be in so much pain but if you push through, the pain just kinda goes away.

If I am still on level 1 on June 1st I will definitely come join in! Who knows, it may take me the next 15 days to do 1 without breaks haha!

I am in! I bought it a few years ago, did it once and never did it again. Getting started with someone else will be exactly the motivation I need! June 1 it is!

doubtingJulia
05-16-2011, 10:14 PM
Yeah! 1 (possibly two) other people! That's good enough for me.

Good thing too, because I was reading the 30 Day Shred thread on the exercise forum and now I'm kind of intimidated.

No intimidation - we've totally got this!

So we are starting on Wednesday, June 1??

doubtingJulia
05-17-2011, 12:03 PM
Yes, I plan to start on June 1st and do it every day in June (!) (Remember, you said we totally got this!)

My plan is to update my weight, waist measurement, thigh circumference and biceps every 5 days. This will be so much fun and will in no way cause me to die.

Can I join in too? I've already started the Shred, so would be starting level 2 on June 1st, but on the other hand I'll be out of town for a week, which'll mean you'll all catch up to me while I'm gone.

I'm so glad I'll have company! I was preparing to do it all alone!

DoubtingJulia ~ I see you've tried BodyPump!! It is my favorite Les Mills class...I haven't done it in forever because I quit the gym that offered it, but I truly, truly loved that class...it kicked my butt every time and I was sweating in places I didn't know I could sweat (like the insides of my elbows would drip sweat). Loved it!

I was reading through this post b/c I did the 30 day shred a year ago. It's definitely an awesome workout!

I would love to join also!!! :carrot:

I just ordered bunch of Jillian's DVDs from Amazon today, but it may take some time before I can get my hands on them. In the mean time, I have level 1 downloaded from exercise TV and I did it today. Had to take couple of longer breaks to complete the workout, but I really really wanted to finish it!

valo: You'll do it! I just did level 1, day 5 yesterday, and when I started I was always following Anita. Now I'm mostly following Natalie -- in just 5 days!! It's a great program, though now that I'm getting comfortable with the moves in level one, I'm nervous to move on to level two, lol.

June 1st I'm in! I read reviews online and EVERYONE loves this video, it must be good!

I'm Annette btw. Turning 25 on June 22 and want to be on my way to 150lbs. I'm 177 right now...

Yay us!

Ferumbras, I am convinced I'm able to do it also! Today I just had 55 min walk (including 15 min of jogging, personal record) and 20 min of exercise bike done and I was still seriously craving more burned calories after a little break. So maybe it was the reason why the aerobics and especially jumping jacks were just KILLING me. Wishing my body wasn't such a wobbly mass! :o It took my breath away. Also, I used my laptop to run the video, very bad sound quality and looking from down to screen level while doing abs... not fun! Looking forward to real DVD.

Welcome valo and kbj0123!

Just to remind everyone, we start on Wednesday! On Tuesday I'm going to post my starting weight and measurements. I'll make one big post and put everyone's up as you post them. I'll be measuring my waist, right thigh and right biceps, but you can post what ever measures you want to work on; calfs, chest, body fat whatever.

I'm really starting to get excited!

I'm in! I've been false starting it for the past week or so, having a group will help make me more accountable.

I'm just getting started in my weightloss, so I doubt it's worth taking measurements. Maybe I could just track my weight?

doubtingJulia

I'd love to join too if that's still ok! I just did Day 1 yesterday - and am so sore that I might skip today, making me ready and able to start on June 1 with you all.

How do you all take measurements? I'm guessing with a more advanced tape measurer than the one that I use around the house! If I can't use that, I'll probably just track weight - and I took a 'before' picture yesterday.

Ferumbras
05-30-2011, 01:33 PM
I use a fabric tape measure, so it bends easily around my body.

doubtingJulia
05-30-2011, 02:35 PM
I'm using an old fashioned fabric tape measurer too. I don't think be have to be precise to several decimal places. Like I said above; this is your challenge, if you just want to track your weight, that's fine. We're here to support each other! (We Rock!)

Julia - Thanks for the welcome from a fellow Canadian! Winnipeg is the place to be this morning as they announce the NHL team coming back!

I'm going to do my measurements today! I'm pretty excited to see them get smaller! I brought out my firming cream for my stomach - I lost 5 inches from my stomach last time I did 30 Day Shred!! And hopefully my size 16's will be hanging on my hips ;)

Tomorrow girls!! Can't wait to suffer through the pain with you all!!

So I might be terrible but I went ahead and started today. I figure that way, if I have to skip one day all month, I can still end on the 30th. If I don't have to use it, I'll just have an extra day under my belt. I'm calling it my "flex day" like Weight Watchers has their flex points... haha

Wst: 39.5
T:28
B: 14

mom24uk
06-01-2011, 09:50 AM
Here are my starting stats although I'm not very good at measuring as I seem unable to find the same tape position each time!

Wt: 196
L Bicep: 34 (13 1/4")
Bust: 104 (41")
Waist: 97 (possibly 99 lol) (38-39")
Hips: 119 (47")
L thigh: 68 (26 3/4")

day 1/30 completed. Again I really struggled with the first cardio set (and this is actually day 10 for me so you'd think I'd improve). My legs won't do that second set of jacks and jumps though I can do them in the last cardio set. My arms also get too tired to do the anterior raises and I'm only using 1lb weights!

How was everyone else's first day?

bama girl

Day 1 completed! :carrot: Or should I say 30DS D1? :D

This felt so much easier now than on Saturday! I didn't even have to stop, well except in the cardio sets I cheated a bit and occasionally walked just a few steps before continuing. I'm still doing the program in the beginner's level style, but noticed through out the exercise that I'm able to push lower as my body warmed up! Maybe it would be a good idea to do some extra warm-up before?

I took my stats also and I am so happy to say that there is plenty of progress since last autumn!

Wt: 111.5 kg (246)
L Bicep: 31 (12 1/4")
Bust: 129 (50 3/4")
Waist: 115 (45 1/4")
Hips: 140 (55")
L thigh: 70 (27 1/2")

I'll be doing the Shred in about an hour and a half (need to let breakfast digest).

I did, however, take my measurements this morning:
Waist at skinniest point: 32"
Waist over belly-button (what I'll put in the spreadsheet): 35"
Hips: 42.75"
Thigh: 22.75"
Calf: 15.75"
Bicep: 12"
Neck: 13"
BMI: 29.6

I'll add these numbers to the spreadsheet.

Oh, and for those of you just starting 30 Day Shred, I thought this might give you some motivation:

In the week that I've done it, I've lost .5" from my waist and 1.5" from my hips, though my calf and arms have beefed up slightly (by .25" and .5" respectively), which I'm attributing to muscle. :D

Wow I forgot exactly how tough this 20 min video is! What weights is everyone else using? I have 5 lb hand weights and I find it hard to keep up with the DVD with them I'm thinking of getting 3 lb weights and work my way up to the 5 lb.

NiteOwlMommy - I think 5 lbs weights would be way too much for me right now.

I am using 1 lbs weights. I would prefer 2 or 3 lbs but I don't want to go out and buy anything and I found the 1 lb weights under my bed

Ferumbras
06-01-2011, 03:22 PM

Day 1 kicked my butt :) Just the cardio section. I used 10 pound weights where I could. I also have weight bands so I used those as well. Still felt the burn :) I just gotta make it through the cardio part. Since I'm doing the 30 ds I'm going to change my gym cardio 5x workout to 3x a week.

Here are my stats:
SW: 180
Hips: 44
RL/LL: 25
RA/LA: 12.5
Bust: 37.5
Waist: 34
BMI: 32.9 obese Yikes

6/1: L1D9 -- I've noticed that since I started up c25k, my quads are a lot stiffer, making the static lunges and squats more difficult. That's not a complaint, just an observation about how that set of muscles is being worked. Otherwise, today felt good. I managed a total of 32 push-ups, a new record! And according to my new calorie-counter watch, I burned approx. 356 calories. :)

I just finished day 1 and it was so hard!

I actually had to start twice since I went to do the workout and realized I was getting out of breath from the warm up (I know kind of pathetic) and I only made it through 1/2 of the first circuit. I was not prepared for how difficult I was going to find it! So I took a break and came back to it now knowing what I was in for. I finished it on my second try but I had a really hard time with the cardio especially the jumping jacks! I am dreading day 2 but I know it will get better

I just finished Level 1!

It was hard, but not oh so very I'm going to die hard. I don't feel as dead as I did after the kick boxing class I took last Saturday, but it was definitely quite a workout. I think the real challenge will be to keep it up for 30 day, no matter how sore I am.

The hardest part was that I couldn't fit it in while my son was at kindergarten and the little dude would just not leave me alone. He kept grabbing my weights and running out of the room with them, trying to cuddle while I was doing crunches and asking me if I want to play crazy eights.

Can't wait to see how sore I am tomorrow!

Sounds like an excuse, but I'm still down for the count. I'm really dissapointed. Hopefully I'll be on track tomorrow. I guess i'll just be a day behind, if that's okay. :)

Another 30 day shred accomplished! :carrot::carrot: Two carrots for me for soing it :D 30DS D2

This time I did a pre-warm up by cycling for 20 min with my indoor bike (or is it exercise bike?) and my muscles were nice and warm. I have 1 kg weights which are about 2 pounds but they do feel a bit too small. I should get another pair but all in all, the workout makes me sweat enough as it is! I am nowhere perfect as I am, but I love this because you can adjust the workout level to suite your strength perfectly!

doubtingJulia: I've similar problems with my two dogs! Most of the time they are quite content to watch me from the couch but occasionally another wants kiss and hugs and another wants to play with ball. :dizzy:

Again I say "Ouch!" I have to say, i think I can handle the cardio, but the strength is firmly reminding me that I have ZERO upper body strength. Gotta work through that one...

 Bama! I just "saw" you.

Interesting - when i did it the first time, it was really me in a war against the jumping jacks - i didn't like them, and they didn't like me. I had no idea how anyone could do 25 in a row, never mind more than once. I kept thinking I was just going to collapse. So props to you if you got em right out of the gate!

I have to say I also totally need to work on my push ups I do feel my arms a bit sore not incredibly I can't move sore but enough to notice. I used 1.5lb weights and did more reps with strength than when I used the 5lb weights. Does anyone else's legs feel super strong? I feel like I can do a power jump or something LOL maybe its just an after exercise energy burst but it feels good tho.

I used to weigh in daily but its my TMO so I decided to only weigh in when it's time to update the spreadsheet. I hope everyone else kicked butt today!

I was able to do all the jumping jacks, but I cheated a bit on jumping the imaginary rope as I just had to catch my breath, I walked through it. Easier but much more effective workout than yesterday ;)

SwimGirl: I really wanted to warm up my body before doing the workout, because I can do it much better when my muscles are warm and wide awake for challenge! Today I did a 50 min walk including week one running of C25K and some cleaning before I did the 30 Day shred.

Hi all, I know it's 3 days in but I was wondering if I could start. It's so weird this is here because my fiance started the shred on the first and wants to do it for himself! We've had the DVD for several months... but I've always been too nervous to do it.

I'm going to try it, though. The thing I'm most nervous about it the jumping. My "girls" are huge and they are not battened down as well as they should be, it can get painful. I'll let you know how I feel after, lol.

Did Level 2, Day 1 this morning. Oh man.. I'm so glad I didn't do c25k before-hand; I needed all the energy I had. I had to wimp out on the last strength exercise (as happened when I first started level 1, which gives me hope that I'll improve here too). Doesn't help that yesterday at kickboxing we focused hard on ab work, making me extra sore/sensitive there today. Nevertheless, it's good to try some new moves.

Hope everyone's still enjoying the shred!

Annie- I also didn't get a chance to do the workout this morning so I am going to do it after work at 10. I wimped out of doing it this morning since my family was home so I know how you feel but I realized if I am going to use something as silly as not being home alone as an excuse not to work out I am never going to get healthier. Who cares what your roommates think with summer coming up they may even want to join you:) Just do the workout tonight because once you have done it in front of your roommates once you won't have a problem doing it again. Good job packing a healthy lunch and make sure you do the workout tonight you dont want to stop on only Day 3 right?

I know I didn't join up in time for the first of the month, but I've been wanting to ever since I started reading about it, so I've been thinking about giving it a shot.

This morning I finally tried it. I have no idea how all of you folks get through it! It looked so simple, especially doing mostly "beginner" versions of level 1. I mean, I didn't think I was so horribly out of shape - I can run at least a mile or so if necessary and I do lift weights sporadically - but by the ten-minute mark of this video I had to stop because I almost threw up!

I think I'll try again tomorrow, though, and see if I can get past ten minutes at least. And I think you're my new heros.

I started the SHRED on the 5th! A little late but still doing it! It kicked my rear! I am sore all over and I LOVE it! I would rather feel sore than lazy!

I will post in 5 days! I basically cursed her out for the whole 20 minutes, but I don't think she heard me....lol. I will love her by the end of this I am sure!:carrot:

And if anyone can message me or something and give me the rundown of this website that would be awesome....is that how this works? Oh goodness! haha

So I've owned 30DS for over 3 years at this point. So when I went to pull it out and start our June challenge and it was MIA - can you say disappointed. Apparently someone in my family decided they needed it more than me in the mean time and in between time. :?: So I had to order it brand new from Amazon because of course when I went to Walmart the next day there were none. So I'm days behind you guys because it wont get here until tomorrow. I've gotta play 7 day catchup or just lag behind 7 days. Either way I'll still be participating and feeling the burn as soon as Jillian is dropped off at my door. Good luck ladies!!!! Looke like you've all kept up so far. ;)

Still feeling a little bummed that I missed my Sunday workout and that I'll probably miss one or two workouts on next weekend as my husband had invited my mother-in-law to visit us. Oh well, will have to take longer walks to compensate on that!

Edit: dear postman brought me bunch of Jillian's DVDs today and I just had to test the Banish Fat Boost Metabolism even though I hadn't eaten etc. I did complete 3 of 7 circuits and I loved them! Another 30 min exercise for me for today and I also did ride my exercise bike before 30ds for 30 min. I'm still craving for more exercise or maybe I feel like that because I should write a few essays and I really don't feel like it ;-)

I skipped yesterday thanks to some work drama which meant I had to work OT and didn't get home until late :( But I will do it today!

I'm actually planning to move to Level 2 after 6 days, I might be crazy.. but I am going away on June 19th so I wanted to complete it before I go.

I missed Day 6 yesterday and I have a bunch of reasons why but none of them are good excuses. I am getting back on track today when I get home from work and I will make up my missed day at some point this week (do the workout twice in one day) since I want to move to level 2 on June 11.

Day 7 Lvl 1!!!! It's been awhile since I have stuck to an actual exercise program (besides walking) for a whole week!

I've been substituting the jump ropes with butt kicks for some reason my shins hurt really bad when I do the jump ropes especially in the beginning.

Level 2, Day 5 complete. I'm noticing a lot more flexibility. During the cool-down, I can not only touch my toes during that first stretch (on day 1, I could just do so on the right side, not at all on the left without bouncing); now, I can curl my fingers over my toes on either side! In addition, when I do the quad stretch, my heel easily comes up to my butt.

Level 2 is killing my knees, however. The lunges and chair-sits are hurting them really badly. I need to find a way to modify those moves for my legs -- I don't want to risk seriously injuring my knees. Anyone have any thoughts?

Just finish Day 7 level 1 and for the first time ever I didn't take a break on the pushups. I still have to do the modified ones but I managed to go the whole time without stopping which makes me really proud of myself. I can definatly tell that I am improving but I dont know if I am going to be ready for level 2 after only 10 days.

Congrats to everyone still hanging in there! I slipped up and have only done 2 days. Then I went to Vegas and then camping for my bf's bday and well, you know how that goes.

But I must say that after only 2 days of doing the workout I noticed a difference in the way my body feels (not so heavy) and I could even fit better in my clothes! My bf noticed as well :)

I don't feel discouraged by only doing 2 days in a row, I actually feel more motivated because if 2 days can already show me results, imagine what 30 days will do!!!

Lovin' this forum and all of you! Will def do it tomorrow :)

I woke up this morning and felt like sick to my stomach my back was aching so bad and it felt as if I had a really bad case of heartburn and gas :P. I drank some water, ate an apple, and rolled up a pillow to put it on my back I set my self back down on the bed belly up and before I knew it I woke up at 12pm!! I was feeling better but a bit woozy. I figured it must have been something I had eaten the night before.

SOOO.....I am only going on day 4 tonight!.....took Monday off! I did Sunday's workout like I was a pro! Soaking, sore, and feeling like I was gonna die. I went on a hike for 2hrs after and couldn't sit down Monday. haha. Tues-DONE Wed-DONE. Thurs-BRING IT ON!.........Also been walking between 2-4 miles a day/night. I walked 5.5 miles yesterday and think that was overdoing it, as I now have a pain in my bad ankle (broke it last year). Letting it rest till tonight, gonna shred after work, then walk, then climb the hill near my house! I actually feel thinner! I have more energy and am not DYING through the workout!

Things I have accomplished in the past month:
at least 5 lbs GONE (forgot my start date :l )
NO ALCOHOL OR SODA (BIG ONE!)
Sleeping better (going to bed at a decent hour)
Eating better (preparing my food for the day, in the morning)
Getting up 1.5 hrs earlier to walk (gives me more energy)

Anyone have a problem of weighing in EVERYDAY! How do you deal with it, and how do you stop doing it?

kgsmiles3 yes she does love the plank on this level! I try to practice some of the moves throughout the day because all the jumping while in the plank position? Yeah no way I can do it right now LOL

Towards the end when she says she wants us to feel like we are dying gives me the extra push to finish strong I do like how she jokes around more on this level and when she gets a bit out of breath doing her own workouts reminds me that she isn't a robot that can pump it out without breaking a sweat

Is it too late to start with you all?

How do I know what point to place the tape measure at to get my measurements? I should be doing them already for WW, so what the heck, I'll track them.

I noticed I have what says Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 (maybe it was level 1, level 2 and level 3) on Demand for 30 Day Shred and I thought I could try it before buying it. But then someone on 3FC said it could be the whole program. I don't have the weights or the mat, but I am going to start tomorrow.

My husband takes over the TV and remote from when he gets home to when we go to bed, so I can only do it during the day. BUT he often goes to the garage to work and what not, so I won't rule nights out.
