I hate to be the one to bring this up, but  we all know a little bit of exercise helps the weight loss and will leave us all toned up for the beach this summer.:flow2:
:drill: Anybody got any great plans ??:drill:
I'm going to get my walking going again. I went for a walk tonight to the roundabout - very exicting ??? Took 15 minutes in the :rain: rain and sleet, was soaked and freezing when I got back.
Have also done 5 minutes work with the :barbell: weights today. A slow start, but I need to tone some of these muscles. :strong:
:drill: Would love to get back to the swimming on a Friday night, not always easy with Rays shifts. May try tomorrow night, if he is home at a reasonable time.

Swimming has just become so easy.
Sean and Steven used to have their swimming lessons one after the other, they are at different stages as Steven had to be 5 before he could start, something to do with insurance. But Steven is going up a class and now takes his lessons on a Thursday, while Sean has his on a Wednesday. It was either that or spend nearly 2 hours hanging around at the pool on a Wednesday, not a lot of fun.
But it does mean I can go for a swim with Sean one day and with Steven the next. 2 x 30 minutes swimming sessions a week, for the next 8 weeks anyway - I can't wait I want to go right now not in 2 days !!!!
Am going to keep the lunch time walking going too, I am going to build it up to a mile. One day when the weather is really bad, I'll drive around and measure some of the routes I walk.
I do want to start my exercise tapes again, need to find the motivation to get out of bed early though.
This weeks plan
Tues - 30 min walk
Wed - 30 min walk & 30 min swim
Thur - 30 min walk & 30 min swim
Fri - 30 min walk & 10 mins of stretches
Sat - walk
Sun - rest
Mon - 30 min walk & 10 mins of stretches
Seems a lot when I write it down.
Will build myself up this week to dust of an exercise video.

My Plan is to use the gym upstairs and get my money's worth outta that darned expensive treadmill that i begged for last year  it's not like i don't like it..i  it..but..for some reason i just won't get my lazy arse up there to do it. I took the VCR out of the bedroom today and rigged it up in the gym so i have no excuse not to use an exercise tape..even if it is'nt the "FIRM"

Well reading all your replies - I really must start getting some exercise. I'm the world's worst, hate exercise, but know I should do some.
i walk my daughter to school, its only about 7 mins each way, but I do that twice a day - so it's a start.
We bought an all singing, all dancing exercise machine last year off one of the shopping channels, and the idea is you get a full body workout in 4, yes 4, minutes a day (I'm starting to sound like the advert!). We had to move it into the garage to make some space for lots of Christmas visitors, but I'll get my hubby to drag it back out again - as it wasn't too bad to use, hard work, but only 4 minutes, it's not too much to commit to - I'm absolutely exhausted afterwards though!!:dizzy:
Smiling Sal
01-09-2003, 07:51 AM
7 minutes each way is a good start. I am a firm believe of anything other that sitting vegging out on the couch is good for us.
Having said that I haven't been for my walk today. I just back in from one of the other offices, did give me a chance to measure my usual walk in the car. If I walk down to the town, turn round and coem straight back, I walk a mile a day. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
I will still be going swimming tonight, no excuses.

Don't think that is anything to do with the ear problem, more likely due to the wine. I've read stories about women sitting at home all day.

I've just rejoined this site after a 3 month absence and am seriously thinking about exercise.
I currently walk my daughter to and from school and swimming (and to the nursery at work) for
1 hour 20 mins on a monday
1 hour on a Tuesday, wed, thurs, fri
This is all the exercise I currently get. I would like to start using an exercise video and wonder which ones you would all recommend as being very good for someone very unfit who needs to lose upwards of 100lb.
I do have Mr Motivators BLT2 from several years ago but was wondering about something new that would feel a bit special because it was new.
BTW, has anyone tried these exercise balls? And if so what is your opinion?
I was also wondering about re-bounders but not sure if I want to keep hitting myself in the face with my stomach. How fit do you need to be to use one effectively and do you just jump up and down or is it a bit more technical than that?
Any input would be appreciated!:)
Smiling Sal
01-13-2003, 04:41 PM
I like the lorraine kelly videos.
What about borrowing some from the library until you find one that suits you.
I think the exercise balls look like fun, but I wonder how long I would use it before it ended up in the garage with everything else gathering dust.
I haven't tried rebounding either, like my boobs where they are, not on the ceiling. :) :) :)
No exercise today, although I was very active at work. Didn't walk because of the rain, will go out tomorrow, what ever the weather. No excuses
tupperware queen
01-13-2003, 06:06 PM
Rebounders are great but like all equipment are only any use if used to exercise on and not store your clothes/odds and ends etc on. Mine is still in the garage but will be back in the house and in use before the end of the week.
You can get videos to do specific exercises on or you can just stick on a favourite cd and dance around.
BritinNJ
01-13-2003, 10:00 PM
I jog and jump on my rebounder while watching telly, makes me keep my mind busy and then I don't realise I'm working out. I like the rebounder cos it's soft on the joints and since starting on my weight loss journey, I've not had much luck with my joints at all. I did look at some video's that went with them, BPB sent me a link, somewhere on this thread to veiw, but they really looked like too hard work for my liking...
Hi
I have not been here for a while but I can tell you that I am still struggling as much as ever... in fact more. I am currently 1/2 stone heavier than I was last time I visited. I just cannot lose this weight and I am sure that the main reason is due to lack of exercise.
I work in a school office and although I don't sit for long periods I don't move around too much. This means that when I diet, the loss is slow, so slow that I lose patience before I lose the weight.
I have tried all kinds of diets BUT they all allow me to eat too much in comparison to my calorie output but if I eat much less I am really starving, it is a "chicken and egg" situation.
I am like most of you, I really don't like exercise. When I was slim, it was so easy. I played sqush, badminton and did 3 classes of aerobics per week but it gets hard as you get older. You drop the classes one at a time until you are doing none, which does your weigh a power of good!!!.
Anyway, my main reason for posting here is to tell you about a new exercise tape I got just before Xmas. Its a walking tape and is therfore a little more gentle BUT very effective. I use that and my rebounder and that does keep my interest a litle longer. I still need no excuse at all not to do it but it may do some of you some good knowing about it. It is the Leslie Sansone 2 mile walk but you can stop at one mile. Basically its very low impact and does not require too much space. 2 miles takes about 20 minutes, I keep telling myself that 20 minutes out of a day is nothing if I am to achieve weight loss, but I don't always convince myself.
I hope you find this of some interest.

Does anyone know the guidelines on wearing trainers when exercising? I dusted of my old BLT2 exercise tape by Mr Motivator today - watched some of it but didn't participate - and he said it was important to wear the correct trainers. However the only bit that seems to involve jumping up and down is the warm up where he does running on the spot.
My floor is concrete under a very thin carpet and although I don't want to spend money on trainers if I don't need to, I would rather do that than end up damaging joints as 16 stone something hits concrete at a rate of knots! Good job its not a wood floor or I would end up damaging joists!!!!!!!!!:)
Made up for not joining in with Mr M by swimming 20 lengths. I only learnt to swim in march last year and had got up to 32 lengths by june (which was the last time i was able to go due to childcare and husband working strange hours) so this is the first time I've been in 7 months and I was thrilled to manage even 1 length, let alone 20.
One happy bunny tonight!

Well done on all the exercise this week everyone. I have been walking to and from work and between the two jobs this week. Too be honest Cathy I looked like I had been through the hedge backwards too, but I was trying to be romantic and poetic - Ray just laughed at the state of my hair when I got back.
Am taking the boys swimming later with some friends, will be 6 kids in the group - must be mad. But although us adults won't get any real swimming done, it will be better exercise than sitting on the couch doing nothing.
Have a pile of ironing to do as well and will be tidying Seans room for a couple of hours, all that banding and lifting will help. But no 'real' exercise today for me.
Am considering getting up early tomorrow and doing an aerobics tape - used to do it all the time before ........

Bought trainers and an exercise mat on friday - thought skipping, using my old ab-cruncher and the Mr Motivator video would be enough to start me off for a couple of weeks especially if I could go swimming now and again.
But got exercise just laughing today:
Chris got my weights out of the loft using with my old video and I bought the ab cruncher downstairs. I lay on the floor and tried to isolate my stomach muscles. No success, no movement. Chris told me to move away from the machine and try again. same reaction. he then showed me how to do sit ups properly and pulled a muscle in his shoulder. In the meantime my daughter had asked if she could use the ab-cruncher, had got a blanket and had lain down on the mat bit with the pillow, had tucked herself up and was using the weights as candles next to the bed she told me. Best use for it as far as I can see!

Well the early morning didn't happen, I sat watching Taggart until nearly one this morning, so there was no chance of me getting up at 6 to work out - tomorrow morning will be a different matter and I am aiming for a workout at 6:20 for 30 mins workout, a long shower and then the rest of the morning routine as usual.
need to get back to this.
No walk today either as the weather was pitiful, I could have walked to the town in record time, but would have had to have battled against the wind to get back up the hill to the office. And then the rain .................

Well done Carol, I think you need a lot of motivation to get out of bed before the last possible moment, especially to exercise!
I had a very unusual day for me. Someone told me yesterday about a fitness and health morning at the community centre next to my daughters school so I went this morning. It was totally free with a creche if anyone needed it. We did aerobics, pilates and relaxation then we could be weighed if we wanted or had our blood pressure taken. Mine was fine which surprised me no end! And we came down from the exercise to a table full of mango, pinapple, kiwi, and other fruit, dips, veg for dipping, fruit juice etc. Wow. Still all free!
Then after taking my daughter back to the school in the afternoon I went swimming. Not sure how many lengths I managed as I was quite tired from the morning and kept losing count but I think I probably managed around 20 again.
Got caught in driving hail on the way home and then just collapsed! I'm off for a bath and very early night in a minute. I am very pleased with myself. As my husband pointed out it was probably the most exercise I've done since I was about 14 (when I started skiving off PE) and I'm now 38. I was amazed I kept up as I was definately the most overweight person there.:smug:

I wish they'd do something like that round here, Helen. I'd definitely be up for it. I actually miss aerobics, but the class i was going to shuts down for the winter because she says not enough people bother to turn out if they have to go in the cold! We think it reopens in March; so not that long before i can go back, I suppose!
It sounds like you've done really well today anyway- think of all the points you must have burned! Keeping up is brilliant too when you're not used to that kind of exercise.

Cathy, you are amazing. Keep this up and you'll be walking marathons come the summer.
I am hoping for a walk or a bike ride later on, depends on the boys. I know I could take them swimming, but am saving that for tomorrow. The pair of them missed football training this morning, as we slept in. So need to get them moving today, for a short while anyway.
If I'm home alone tonight, I am planning on doing my lorraine kelly video again. I missed it yesterday morning as things didn't go according to plan.

Carol..i've been thinking about that :D i only walk fast at the moment with an occasional spurt of jogging and i feel so energised while i'm doing it :) i would love to be able to eventually jog if not run for some considerable distance :D to take part in a small marathon would be great :cp:

I can't run or jog the length of myself, would like to be able to run further, maybe it'll come as the weight goes down.
I could walk forever though, so maybe I'll just enter and walk an entire marathon ?

Went for a walk in a downpour at lunchtime today.

OK so two weeks ago I couldn't do an ab-crunch come love or money but since than have been doing some pilates exercises to build up stomach muscles, not much though. On thursday I was walking past the ab-cruncher and thought I'd give it another go and did 50, could feel the burn as I did them and nothing else hurt so thought I must be doing them correctly. I thought I wouldn't be able to move the next morning but I was in no pain at all so did 50 on Friday, 75 saturday and sunday and 100 just. Still no pain. So what is happening? Surely something should hurt? My husband says I must be doing them wrong but he watched me and said I seemed to be doing them OK and as I pointed out, surely if I was doing them wrong something else would hurt? When I've done them before its always been my neck muscles that have taken the brunt but they are OK too. I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks this is normal or could it mean I'm doing them wrong?
I would be grateful for any advice. I'm more than happy to keep doing them but would like to feel a bit more confident that I'm doing them correctly!
Thanks

Helen..the pilates must have strengthened your muscles enough so that you are past the pain..if you know what i mean :spin: when you first did the pilates did it hurt a little? if it did then you probably worked all the muscles in your midsection..the same muscles you would use to do a sit-up..if you had'nt been doing the pilates first and just done the sit-ups you would have probably been sore like you are expecting to be now...hope this makes sense :)
TQ..we'll have to re-name you ZORRO

TQ, you should go swimming with me - everyone will be giving me and my stomach strange looks and won't even notice your ear-bandit:)
Went to Aerobics this morning and we have all requested they keep this course going after half-term. It was initially only for 6 weeks. Its sounding hopeful. I suggested we had 1 hour on a mon, tue and wed morning but maybe I'm just being obsessive!
Swimming this afternoon was a real pain. My friend and I were aiming for 32 lengths but it was really busy. I ended up doing 1/2 lengths so I wasn't encroaching on the busy end of the pool but had already been slowed down enough that I only managed 25 lengths. I'm a really slow swimmer anyway so couldn't get out of everyones way or swim round them quickly enough and I'm not confident enough to swim away from the side. I do a special stroke I invented myself called "underwater crawl". My husband says its doggy paddle!
Cathy, yes the Pilates killed when I first started doing them, I can't believe such a little exercise could make such a big difference in such a short time. Did mention this "problem" to the aerobics teacher and she said it sounded fine to her and that I should stop crunching when I feel the burn. I'm sure I can feel and see a difference already between my bust and waist and have lost 1 1/2 inches of my waist though I've only lost 11lb and only been exercising a bit for 3 weeks now.

And to TQ for the swimming, I'm off to do a few lengths shortly whilst Sean is in his swimming lesson.

Also got up early adn did some callanetics. For somethign that doesn't involve a lot of movement it is a killer. I only did the warm up, the first stomach exercise and the cool down, that took 25 minutes and I ache - must be doing me good ???

i tried my Callanetics tape ONCE  i think some of the "poses" are hard to get into..do you find that Carol? but it does work the 72yr old on my tape has a better body than me :yikes:  and it shows before and after pic's..after 19 hours the pic's were incredible..maybe i should give it another whirl :chin:

I haven't tried callenetics. I bought the new Yogalates video two weeks ago but can't do it. I tried it but my stomach keeps getting in the way when I'm trying to get into certain positions, especially ones where you are supposed to hold your knees into your chest. I think I shall have to put it away for now and try again when I'm about another 3 or 4 stone lighter.
Would I have the same problem with callenetics?
cat90
02-14-2003, 02:59 PM
Not neccessarily..if you can't do them she shows you another option that is'nt as hard for you to do until you get more flexible :D
Smiling Sal
02-15-2003, 04:34 AM
Yes the poses in calanetics are impossible, am working my way through the tape slowly. Only managed one stomach exercise last time, couldn't face the second where you have one leg up in the air, not straight, your buttock still on the floor, chin on chest and roll up your shoulders, and then move forward half an inch - didn't even manage to get in to postion before they had done all 100 moves - maybe next time.
It is a big scunner when the 72 year old has a better body, but I'm working on it !!
Have a yoga tape too, but can't even attempt that one yet, as you say Helen maybe when we are a bit lighter, my tummy keeps getting in the way at the moment.

BritinNJ
03-04-2003, 03:39 PM
Hellooooooo, ok this is what I thought about the vid. It's great if you can do pelvic floor exercises, hold your tummy in so you can make a curve (think about keeping a marble in place above your belly button), lift your bum up all nice and tight and make your ribs feel like knitting needles by poking them out, all at the same time while lifting your legs, head and arms in different motions. What was this pilates? A contortionist? I must say, I found it all very interesting, but unless I lose all the fat to be able to make these curves and such, I can't see me doing it very well. Kathy Smith also keeps telling you to breath, and quite fast which I found quite difficult and was always on an in breath when she was on an out.....I think I'll stick to Tae-bo for a bit longer :)
Smiling Sal
03-04-2003, 05:27 PM
Am definately going to avoid pilates, sounds painful.
Got up this morning and did 30 minutes of calanetics, am beginning to get there with the stomach exercises, managed to do 50 roll ups of the first one, she says to do 100 and I managed 30 of the next 2 and 15 of the last one. Am getting better at it but it is hard.
Walked at lunch time with a colleague from another office who is working with me for a few days. But I walked slower than usual although with all the chatting my tongue got a good workout - not sure if that counts
Went for a walk tonight, reckon I must have gone about 2.5 miles and carried a load of shopping back for the last one of them.
All this is supposed to be good for you, but all it is doing is making me sleep.

Smiling Sal
03-05-2003, 05:26 PM
Crying must use some cals cause the body needs to do some work to produce them, think you may have to cry an awful lot for it too make any difference.
Got up at 6:30 this morning again and did the back to front work out on my Lorraine Kelly tape - will no doubt ache tomorrow night
Went for a stroll again at lunchtime and a real walk tonight when I got in from work.
Am hoping to go swimming tomorrow night, but the local pool has a ladies only night and you can guarnatee it will be mobbed, not my idea of fun, am going to go surfing in a wee while and see if I can find any details on the pool in the next town.

This is a pilates exercise that I was shown and found very helpful but its not at all like the video Chris tried (which I won't be buying just yet!). This exercise is really effective:
Lie on your stomach on the floor and grip your forearms then rest your head, face down, on them. Try to lift your tummy button off the floor (imagine you are holding your tummy button away from a spike that is sticking up through the floor) and hold those muscles tight for a count of twenty. Relax then try again. Remember to breathe! I couldn't do ab-crunches until I tried this exercise and it made a difference in a couple of days.:)
Managed 32 lengths swimming on Tuesday and also tried "combat aerobics". Ahem. This was great, it consisted of someone standing behind me holding the middle of a giant elastic band taut. The band had a handle at each end and I held one in each hand and had to punch the air, in different directions. It was great fun with our trainer telling us to imagine it was our husbands! Backs of my arms ached yesterday.
Smiling Sal
03-06-2003, 04:39 PM
The combat aerobics sounds fun, could get into that me thinks.
Have been a busy bee again today, up early and did Tae Bo, just put the tape on to see how much of it I could do, did the whole thing, am so impressed with myself :)
Went for a stroll at lunchtime and then a serious walk tonight - the 2.8 mile route, took about 40 minutes.
My muscles are starting to protest about all the hard work of this week, it will be worth it though.
Smiling Sal

Didn't manage to go for a walk at lunchtime as it was raining and the guy I am working with would have dissolved. Just kidding he's very nice really.

03-08-2003, 03:21 PM
Cathy, its just a tightening of the stomach muscles so shouldn't really hurt whilst you are doing it though you will feel "the burn" after a bit. Also anyone watching won't really see you moving as you won't be lifting your back up at all. I found it really helpful. Enjoy:)
BritinNJ
03-08-2003, 05:48 PM
Carol you are exercising fabously luv, well done to you. Cathy, I'm going to join you in Helens pilates exercise lifting the belly button off the floor, it sounds a whole lot easier than what I tried to do earlier this week. I had agonising lower back pain the day after, although I don't know whether to blame Pilates or my kids at work for that, cos work has been a very hectic physical one.
Arwen
03-08-2003, 06:32 PM
Did anyone watch the programme earlier tonight about Kylie? John-Claude van Dam (sp?) took credit for her bum by saying he told her about an exercise he was taught as a ballet dancer where you lie on the floor on your back with your feet on the floor and your knees raised and you had to lift your buttocks and squeeze them for a count of three then lower for 1 and repeat. I think I've seen this one before but thought I'd give it a go later, though I think it will take a lot more than that before I end up with a bum like hers!:) Liposuction would be more in order in my case:D
Smiling Sal
03-09-2003, 05:30 AM
I would do that exercise everyday for the rest of my life if I thought I could get a bum like Kylies. Don't even think liposuction would work for me - a magic wand might be more the order of the day.
Yes Cathy I have worked this body this week, I have been really focused and pushed myself, I am determined to build some muscles to help burn this fat off - just hope it works. Was chatting to a couple of friends yesterday and said I will probably gain this week with all the muscle I have built, would be just my luck. We are going on holiday in a few weeks and I need some muscles to burn off all the booze I'll be consuming then.
I can see a difference in my shape so it is worth it, I just need to stay focused and keep at it.
I have been doing extra walking this week as I haven't really been doing as much during the day with having Brian working with me. He is too much of a gent to let me do all the lifting and carrying in my job and I haven't been running up all those stairs, cause I've been chatting to him on the way up. Is embrassing to be caught running up the stairs, only do it when there is no one else on them - most of the time. Don't have stairs at home so it is a bit of a novelty.
Went for a lovely walk yesterday afternoon, did a 3 mile circuit, had to measure it in the car, roll on mothers day and my pedometer.
Am hoping to escape for a walk later and will be taking the kids swimming, more of a splash around than a serious swim, but it will get my butt of the couch.
Did lots of housework yesterday, so that would have burnt of a few cals, got the livingroom and the iroining to tackle today. Don't iron much just my work stuff and a few of the boys things, so shouldn't moan.
Come on Cathy I saw you challenge on the other thread that I was out doing you exercise wise, can't have that.

No offical exercise for me over the weekend, just gardening and a 4.25 mile walk yesterday afternoon, as if that wasn't enough. Am going to step my exercise up a small bit this week, I really want to get swimming, but it doesn't fit in with Raymonds shifts, so I'll just need to contain myself to walking and aerobics.
The walk was a killer by the way, a long time since I walked that far.
As my SIL said yesterday, if there is no pain there will be no gain, if it works for her, all good and well. Me I perfer the no pain and lots of gain method, but preferably not on the scales.
Went for a mile walk at lunchtime, no aerobics today am saving that for tomorrow.

But having said that I enjoyed the walk so much this morning when everyone else was in bed that I am going to go again tomorrow. Have the alarm set for 5:55. Was nice and peaceful and foggy and slient.
Means though that I still have my calanetics to do tonight. Will put the tape on once teh boys are in bed - suppose that is the down side of enjoying an early morning walk.

On Tuesday I did a new circuit and walked just over 3 miles.
Then today I went round my longest route, 3.5 miles, I thought it was nearer 4 but who am I to argue with my pedometer. Then I did a short detor as I had to buy some food for lunch taking it up to 4 miles all in.
Am at 11 miles in my week challenge, only 9 miles to go by Sunday evening to meet it.
No aerobics so far, gotta get back to that tomorrow.
Went swimming with the boys, I did swim a couple of widths but was more of splash around.

Well I didn't manage the exercise tape, to busy making cakes. Walked 1.6 miles yesterday lunchtime and 1.5 miles today, am at a grand total of 4.5 miles for the week so far - not like me. Will need to go for a long walk at the weekend to try and catch up a little bit.
Need to get the tapes going again, can feel a difference in my skin tone on my tummy already, the stretch marks are much more visible again.
have no kids from Tuesday night until Friday night next week, so I have no excuse not to get the exercise back upto standard.
After that I am away for a few days with friends and then when I come back I will be in a new exercise regime. I will walk, swim at least once a week for me and aerobic tapes at least twice a week. Still need to work all the details out in my head, but I am going to be so fit come the summer it will be unbeliveable.

Walked 1.2 miles at lunchtime and then 2.4 this evening getting better, week total standing at over 10 miles now, still leaves 4 and a big bit to do before Monday morning, don't see it happenning but I am getting closer.
Still no aerobics
Mmmmmmn! I am not sure at all if this counts as excercise... but this morning I went along to our nearest leisure centre to have a jacuzzi.. ..there was no-one else in there at the time for the whole 20minutes so I did a few leg excercises and general movements, in the hopes that the muscles would feel more toned without straining them in the water..:smug: ..I guess you'd have to do the tiny bit I did several hundred times over to call it an aerobic work-out, but I did enjoy myself, which is what counts as important as far as I am concerned!!!
Have a good weekend, everyone, keep safe!

HI girls, let me just say I LOVE CURVES!!! I have been twice now, my first try was Friday night when the girls showed us how to use all the machines, I enjoyed it so much, I actually felt wonderful and fit, cos I wasn't puffed out. I went again this morning and was amazed how quickly the thirty minutes goes by. All the women there today, (it was busy) were so friendly and happy, made me feel right at home standing or working a machine next to them. You do some stretching exercises after the circuit to keep you muscles from cramping, you just do them in the middle of the floor and I felt a bit self concious at first thinking all the women were staring at me, but they weren't so I just got on with them. My friend and I have plans to go Mon, Weds, Fri and Saturdays as that'll fit in with our lives. You can only go the max of five times a week cos you need rest days, so I think this should work out good. Went for a BBQ down the roads with this same friend and her family tonight, she said she feels thinner already, and I had to agree, I do too. I FEEL GOOD :)
Smiling Sal
04-06-2003, 01:51 PM

Keep it up Cathy, you always walk a million miles when you get on the treadmill.
I am still loving Curves. Am managing four times a week so far, which works in with my life.
I get weighed and measured there once a month so will report anything on that note, next month (after my holiday which I hope I don't do too much damage on).

BritinNJ
04-16-2003, 05:36 PM
Oh yes Cathy, everyone there usually has some definite curves on them. Makes you not feel so alone if you're jogging on the spot or doing the machines and something wobbles. I have a seen a few young girls come in there and they are obviously very fit already and want to stay that way which is admirable. I love the fact that it women only, some of them have a chat now when we go in but some keep to themselves, but on the whole it's been a very friendly experience. I am off for another session there in a few. felt very tired earlier after work, but am raring to go now, and I do find it really is giving me the extra energy I need to get through the days.

On Thursday I walked 1.1 miles
On Friday I walked 1.9 miles
On Saturday I did 25 minutes of Lorraine Kelly aerobics vid
Today I have taken the boys swimming, was more of a splash around than a proper swim, but was better than sitting on the couch doing nothing.
I've also done a pile of ironing, must have burnt some cals with that - please tell me I have.
Am going to do the warm up / cool down to the salsa video is good fun.
Am thinking about doing the swim for life, you have to commit to swimming a multiple of 22 miles between now and the end of December. 50 lengths of the local pool would give me 1 mile, could I do that 22 times between now and the new year. Am thinking long and hard about it at the moment. best not leave it too long though. Time is the problem as opposed to the swimming.

Your talk for Scotland on the other page was brill, you are an ispiration with your ways of thinking :)
I have been avidly going to Curves still anad am still loving it. I got weighed and measured yesterday (they do this once a month). ANd I am VERY proud to say that I have lost five and a half pounds in weight (although I follow my own weekly weigh in so there's doesn't really count for me) and I have lost a total of ten and a ahlf inches altogtehr adding up the losses from the boobies, tum, hips thighs and arms. I am really chuffed...even got a sticker that said great job! LOL! I can feel the difference in my clothes, and in my energy level, so I reckon Curves and following points is the way for me to be a slim jim in the near future.
Have a great week everyone.

I keep forgetting about this thread. Six weeks ago I started setting myself weekly exercise challenges involving my strider. I am working my way up to using it for 150mins per week. I started off at 50mins per week and I add 10mins each week. My current week sees me on 100mins. I start the challenge the day after I am weighed and ensure all my minutes are done before I go for the next weigh-in. And it seems to be working, I just need a bit of structure. This week I have also started jogging on the spot. It isn't much, I started with 2 mins and each time I do it I am aiming to do an extra minute. My last attempt was 4 mins and I managed it. I feel to conscious of my size to go and jog round the block at the moment. But I am definitely getting fitter as after 10mins on the strider I would be out of breath, but most of the time now I do 15min straight stints on it. And I am not particularly out of puff when I do my few minutes jogging on the spot. Also I try to walk the dog when the weather is nice, but the poor old dog is knackered after 15mins and pulling me back to the car!! But never mind every little helps and I wouldn't want to walk without the dog for protection (not a very nice area where I live).

Today i did 3.15mls on my treadmill..15 mins of weights and 10 mins of trying to do myself an injury.

LOL Cathy, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a bit of trouble with it luv. I have to laugh cos the people on the video don't even break into a sweat and I am puffing and panting whilst trying to contort my body and like you say, by the time they've finished a set, I'm not even in the first position and that's the end of me. And all the time they do it, they keep saying to breathe evenly, it's definitely a multi task programme to follow....

I'm glad you two have sunshine. I haven't seen it in days. Actually I lie, it's just popped out now through the horendous thick clouds that have become a part of the NJ sky line for over a week now. I am feeling rather run down today, been busy at work and due to high winds recently am having allergy problems, due to all the blossoms and bits and bobs flying off the trees. Yes you can vote for Dave again Carol...I reckon he'll have to be the one who goes, like they say over here, three strikes and you're out.....hehehe...I'll tell him later though, he had the afternoon off from work and has spent the lat three hours not very paitently trying to install a cd player into my car for me. I had to hitch a ride on the school bus to get home...needless to say the aair is a bit blue outside so I'll stay away from him for a bit. Oh yes...another thing...the sun is finally shining again, it's absoultely gorgeous out....maybe he'll have my car back together for me to get to curves later......hope so, I need to go, those size 16's are calling my name :)
Aha!!!!Now I understand!
:( I really do not know how to exercise at the moment...at the end of last year I was meeting my challenge of walking 3x20minute a week. Now though, this year seems to have really gone to pot. I have too much pain to walk very far at all and some days I can barely get round the bungalow.I think this is why I have not lost any weight recently, or rather over the past six weeks or so!!HEEEEEELP!!!!!
I am musing about trying the on-line weightwatchers plan as everyone speaks very highly about weight watchers and their points idea.If I have not lost weight on my next weigh-in day in 2 days time, I may try that plan to see if I can give my metabolism a kick start again.....:cb: :drill: :drill:

Teel..i know this may sound stupid but have you thought of exercising while sitting down? using light weights? doing leg raises? i am kind of interested in the bodyflex system at the moment and it is'nt that expensive so if it does'nt work its no great loss  apparently you do it whilst sitting and you have a bar with bands attached to it and exercise while concentrating on your breathing..maybe its something for you to consider but i'd check with your patience of a saint doctor first :D
Ooh thank you for that bit of inspiration cat90, it sounds just right and would hopefully tone up the stubborn bits at the same time, hee hee!! :strong: :jig:

Rode my bike for over 11 miles over rough terrain yesterday. Was exhausted at the end of it and my butt was so sore. 11 miles is the conversative estimate of how far we went. We need to buy a map measuring thingy or a speedo for one of the bikes.
Apparently we are going out on the bikes again this weekend, was fun really, but I might not be so keen in the rain !!!!

Went to Curves this evening. They have just moved into a new facility which is a bit bigger as their clientele has grown since they first opened. Was a bit shocked cos it's not as big as I expected, the room for the workout is long and narrow so felt a bit like you were going to step on someone, still never mind. They added a new machine too. It works your upper body, it's like a bar that you lift up to your boobs and push down again, I could really feel my muscles screaming by the third round!
Walked Pen and Lew tonight, have had to hold off the past two days as Pen hurt her leg on Saturday so has had to rest up. She was pretty nippy on her feet tonight though :)

Have walked 4.5 miles since Tuesday morning, has taken me about 3 shots to get that far. Have also swam for 30 minutes and ran up and down stairs so many times it is unbeliveable.
Surely this is doing me some good :)

Walked another 3 miles last night - just wandered about as planned and got lost in a maze of a housing estate, not far from where I live, all the paths look the same. If I hadn't got lost would probably have only walked a couple of miles.
Am going to go out again today, also want to get some aerobics done, just half an hour will have me feeling much better.
I need to get my exercise plan on schecdule again. I have been trying to walk 10 miles over a week and managed it last week and am nearly there this week. But I need to get in a bit of stretching and toning too.
Am planning on get up early 2 mornings next week, monday and thursday I thought and so some areobices. Possibly Lorraine Kelly tape on Monday and my salsa one on Friday. If I do that for a couple of weeks and see how I feel I can then maybe add an additional morning.
Have been swimming the last couple of weeks, but that has been a fluke as Sean has been grounded and stayed with Ray, while Steven has his swimming lesson. Would like to 'escape' to the pool for me and do a few lengths - always makes me feel better.
As for my bike, well if it's dry I love to get out on that.
Am trying to be more active - can you tell ?????? Will I ever see a difference in me ????? Will I ever make it down to a size 16 ??????
Am off to jog to the kitchen :)

All this talk of bike rides is making me want to go out on mine Carol  keep it up..i might be telling you where i've been one of these days :) its a bit of a hassle for me to go on a ride because we have a really long steep gravel driveway so i have to pack the bike up in the boot of the car and drive down to a biking trail before i can set off  wish i could just set off from the house :( but i just would'nt feel safe riding down our driveway..and there is no way that i would make it up!

Still doing curves, still enjoying it, especially love the Saturday morning session, it just seems to start the weekend off right for me.
Had a few nibbly days this week, but am faithfully back on track again now so hope it shows on the scales next weigh in. Was so good to walk again tonight too. don't know about riding a bike, would probably fall off if I tried now as it's been years since I owned a bike. I have looked at some to buy but don't really have the storage place for it here, also, the sadles always look so thin and uncomfortable although on mens bikes, they seem to get the nice big fat bottoms comfy looking seat....why is that? Womens bums are always bigger than mens.
Right, bath time it is.......

Hmmm, its probably because men always think that their "assets" are bigger than they really are  i know what you mean about the seats tho' its kinda like sitting on a razor blade until you get used to it  i bought myself a gel seat cover a couple of months ago..just remembered that..so my first ride might not be as bad as i think :D anyway Chris..you know what they say "its like riding a bike..you never forget" and its true! I had'nt rode one for years when i bought mine and i have'nt used it for about 3 years so i need a bit of practice too.
oops...almost forgot to post that i treadmilled 1.5mls yesterday..first for a week!
